WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT. THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND HIT A MOTORCYCLE. NO INJURIES. THE DRIVER WA ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THEY DID NOT PERFORM AS DESIGNED, AS A RESULT THE BRAKES SEIZED UP AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A HALT AND THE BRAKE PISTON SHATTERED CAUSING BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK. *JB BRAKE PADS WERE THE ROOT CAUSE THE PADS FROM THE BRACKING PLATE AND THE CALIPERS RESULTING IN THE CALIPER PISTONS TO GRIND INTO THE ROTOR.*TS
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR. THE TREAD WAS SEPARATED FROM THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS NOT DETERMINED. *AK *NM
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH VEHICLE VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT FRONT TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION. *AK THE TIRE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. *NM
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH A NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE REAR. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER. CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED . VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO DEFECTIVE PARTS. *AK
WHILE BRAKING PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THIS CAUSED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. UPON IMPACT CUT A TREE IN HALF, AND BOTH AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOYED, NO WARNING LIGHT APPEARED PRIOR TO THE CRASH.
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED AND APPLYING THE BRAKES STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, AND COULD NOT TURN TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. DEALER ADMITTED THERE WAS MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. *AK STEERING LOCKED ALSO AT HIGH SPEED. *LA
TRANSMISSION FAILED. TRANSMISSION LOCKED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A NEIGHBORING REPAIR SHOP. *AK *NM
WITHIN 5 SECONDS OF PUTTING VEHICLE IN THE PARK GEAR AND EXITING VEHICLE ROLLED DOWN AN INCLINE AND COLLIDED WITH A SKIDDER. CONSUMER COULD NOT RECALL IF VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF OR IDLING WHEN THIS CRASH OCCURRED. MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THERFORE, COULD NOT PROVIDE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM OR A REMEDY.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. *AK
FAULTY EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BREAK OFF AND CAUSE EXCESSIVE NOISE, EXHAUST ENTERS THE DRIVERS CABIN, VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS EMISSIONS INSPECTION AND IS EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. I HAVE 4 FORD VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM. FIRST INCIDENT WAS AT AROUND 50,000 MILES AND 48 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. FORD REFUSED TO MAKE REPAIRS UNDER ANY PORTION OF THE FACTORY WARRANTY. THEY CLAIM LIFETIME EMISSIONS WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER IT, NOR THE 100,000 POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. I HAVE SPENT OVER $8000.00 MAKING REPAIRS TO THESE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. TRITON V-10 GAS ENGINE
MY 2001 FORD F-350 WAS DESTROYED IN A FIRE. THE UNIT SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUSTED AT 1 AM AFTER BEING PARKED FOR OVER 12 HOURS. THE UNIT WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT AN EMPLOYEES HOME, WHICH WAS ALSO DAMAGED. WHEN I ORIGINALLY COMPLAINED TO FORD ABOUT THE SPEED CONTROL RECALL, THEY CLAIMED THAT IT DID NOT INCLUDE MY VEHICLE. I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE INSURANCE SETTLEMENT WAS WOEFULLY INADEQUATE, CAUSING A 30K000 OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE TO REPLACE THE TRUCK. NO COMPENSATION WAS OFFERED FROM FORD.*AK
THE TRUCK CONTINUOUSLY PULLED TO THE RIGHT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. UPON PUTTING THE TRUCK ON A LIFT, THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE FRONT TIRE HAD SPLIT AND THE STEEL BELT WAS HANGING OUT. THE CAUSE OF THE TIRE SPLITTING HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED. *PH *SC *JB

THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WOBBLED WHILE DRIVING. DEALER STATED THE BEARINGS ON THE SPINDLE WERE DEFECTIVE. *AK
LTR FM RICHARD WALLER (LA) RE THE DEFECTIVE FIRESTONE STEEL TEX A.T. 265-75R16E TIRE ON HIS 2001 FORD F350 TRUCK, REPLY TO THE BATON ROUGE OFFICE. *LA WHILE DRIVING THE FIRESTONE TIRE LOST IT'S TREAD AND AS A RESULT THE DRIVERS SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO HIS TRUCK. THE TIRE WAS INSPECTED BY BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE BUT THEY CLAIMED THERE WAS NO DEFECT. THEY CLAIMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME WITH INSUFFICIENT AIR PRERSSURE TO CARRY THE LOAD. *NM
WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDETERMINED SPEED AND WITH NO WARNING VEHICLE STALLED, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. CONSUMER HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE SPARK PLUGS BLEW OUT. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH SPARE TIRE CABLE BROKE. THIS CAUSED THE TIRE TO ROLL INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. *AK
THE CONSUMER PARKED THE TRUCK FOR OVER 24 HOURS. THE CONSUMER WAS THEN INFORMED THE TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL WELL. THEN FROM IN FRONT OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS INSURED BY CAROLINA CASUALTY RICHARD MCDONALD CLAIM # P12058. THE VEHICLE HAD A NEW TRANSMISSION INSTALLED 30 DAYS BEFORE THE FIRE. THE POWER MIRRORS HAD ALSO HAD PROBLEMS. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ACTING UP BUT IT WAS THOUGHT TO BE RELATED TO THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *JB

CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AND WITH NO WARNING, THE FRONT LEFT TIRE BLEW OUT. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK THE STEM LEAKED AT THE RECOMMENDED PRESSURE FROM 45 TO 50 PSI WHICH CAUSED THE BLOW OUT. *PH *JB
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE THE STEERING LOCKED UP. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STEER OR MOVE. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. PH
CONSUMER STATES THAT BRAKE ROTORS ARE WEARING OUT, AND WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES , VEHICLE WILL HAVE HEAVY VIBRATION AND EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
TRANSMISSION FAILED ON OUR 2001 F-350 AT 66,463 MILES. VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $3000. TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. FORD OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE BECAUSE REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN PERFORMED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY DENIED ANY DEFECTS IN THE TRANSMISSION. THEY STATED WE SHOULD HAVE PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY.
ALL 4 TIRES FAILED ON OUR NEW 2001 F-350 AND HAD TO BE REPLACED BY 02/2003 AT 62000. COST WAS $1100.
THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT BELTS FAILED. *JB THE SEAT BELTS WERE SLIT. SCC
WHEN THE CLUTCH WAS APPLIED, THE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR. *JB
FIRESTONE STEELTEX TIRE TREAD SEPARATION. *MR WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT WARNING THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT NHTSA RE-OPEN THE INVESTIGATION OF THE BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE TIRES. *SC *JB
HI, THE PART IN THE TRANS. THAT FAILED IS CALLED THE (SWAG )GEAR. HOW I FOUND OUT. I LOST 3RD AND REVERSE COMING HOME FROM NH. I BROUGHT IT TO A DEALERSHIP TO GET IT LOOKED AT, THEY SAID IT WAS RUNNING HOT AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT, COST TO DO SO WAS 2600.00 I NEW I COULD GET IT DONE CHEAPER BY A TRANS. REBUILDER SO THE NEXT DAY I DROPPED IT OFF FOR REPAIR, THE BILL CAME TO 2250.00. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE THE OWNER AND ONE OF HIS STAFF SAID THE PART THAT FAILED WAS RECALLED BACK IN AUG. 2000 ALL VEHICLES THAT HAD THIS TRANS. NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BEFORE SELLING THE VEHICLE. TWO FIRESTONE STEELTEX TREAD SEPARATION ON THE SAME VEHICLE. *NM THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, HE HEARD A VERY SUBTLE, UNUSUAL SOUND WHAT SEEMED TO BE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, BUT BEFORE THE CONSUMER COULD CLARIFY WHAT THE SOUND WAS, IT SEEMED THAT THE LEFT FRONT TIRE HAD EXPLODED, ALL BUT A FOOT OF THE TREAD SEPARATED WHICH CAUSED THE TREAD TO LOUDLY BANG INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE WHEEL WELL. DURING THIS INCIDENT THE BRAKE LINE LIKELY BROKE AND THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. CONSEQUENTLY THE VEHICLE HIT A RAIL AND ALL THREE OCCUPANTS WERE INJURED. PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE DEVELOPED A BUBBLE. *JB
WHILE AT STAND STILL WITH FOOT ON BRAKE CAN NOT TURN WHEEL AND AT SPEED WHILE APPLYING BRAKES CAN NOT STEER. 3RD STEERING BOX TO BE REPLACED DOES WANDER WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. FORD DEALER SAYS ITS NORMAL. FORD MFG SAYS SAME. DT

THIS SUPER SWAMPER TIRE IS THE SECOND ONE THAT HAS EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, BOTH WERE FRONT MOUNTED TIRES. I AM GETTING THE TIRE REPLACED WITH ANOTHER MANUFACTURER'S TIRES, BUT I FELT THAT THESE TIRES AND THEIR MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE CHECKED FOR PROBLEMS. MY F350 IS A FAIRLY HEAVY VEHICLE AND I WAS PULLING A TRAILER WHEN THIS TIRE EXPLOSION OCCURED. AT THE VERY LEAST THESE TIRES SHOULD HAVE A WARNING THAT THEY DO NOT DISSIPATE HEAT SUFFICIENTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.*AK
THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING, AND AT ABOUT 3/4 WAY UP THE HILL GOING AT 52-56 MPH, FOR ABOUT 4-5 SECONDS, THERE WAS A WASH BOARD EFFECT, WHERE THE ROAD WAS GROOVED SIDWAYS FOR ANOTHER 4-5 SECONDS. THE VEHICLE HEADED FOR THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THEN THE VEHICLE DROPPED TO THE RIGHT REAR TO THE RIM. THE TIRE HAD COME COMPLETELY APART. CONSUMER WOULD LIKE REPLACEMENT FOR THE TIRE BOUGHT FOR THE SPARE-($123) *SCC

TWO BOLTS THAT HOLD THE MASTER CYLINDER TO TRUCK BROKE. ONE OF THE BOLTS SNAPPED IN TWO, CAUSING MASTER CYCLINER TO BE PUSHED AT AN ANGLE AWAY FROM FIREWALL OF TRUCK. THIS RESULTED IN A TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKES.*AK JLG
WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP, AND CONSUMER HAD TO CONTROL VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER REPLACED TRANSMISSION. *AK
I HAVE HAD 2 TREAD DELAMINATIONS WITHIN A 2 MONTH PERIOD. THE FIRST OCCURED 7-09-02 TO THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. THE INNER AND OUTER FENDER WERE DAMAGED BY THE FLYING OFF READ. THE SECOND DELAMINATION OCCURED ON 9-21-02 TO THE LEFT REAR TIRE. I FELT THE VIBRATION AND WAS ABLE TO CHANGE THE TIRE BEFORE ANY DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED. YOU COULD SEE THE AREA WHERE THE DELAMINATION WAS HAPPENING. THE TIRES ARE KEPT AT 80PSI AND ARE CHECKED ON A WEEKLY BASIS. I STILL HAVE POSSESION OF BOTH TIRES AT THIS TIME. THE FIRESTONE DEALER WANTS TO TAKE THEM WHEN HE REPLACES THE TIRES. NLM
WHILE IN MOTION, THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE HEARD A THUMPING NOISE. CONSUMER PULLED OVER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND FOUND A HOLE IN THE LEFT REAR TIRE WITH A BULGE IN 1/3 OF THE TIRE WHERE IT HAD SEPARATED. THERE'S A SEPARATION ON THE SIDE OF THE TIRE. GENERAL TIRE, 17235/85R16. *AK FOUR OUT OF SIX TIRES HAD SIDEWALL SEPARATIONS THAT WERE SERIOUS. FORD FINALLY DECLARED FOUR OF THE SIX AS BEING DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED THEM. COSNUMER WAS HAVING THE VEHICLE CHECKED WHEN THE CLAIMS ADJUSTER POINTED OUT THAT THE TWO FRONT TIRES HAD TREAD SEPARATION DEEP ENOUGH FOR A DIME TO FIT 1/8TH OF AN INCH. THE SEPARATIONS WERE TWO TO FOUR INCHES IN LENGTH. THE TWO OUTER BACK TIRES ALSO HAVE TREAD SEPARATION BUT NOT AS DEEP AS THE FRONT TWO. FORD TRYS TO CHARACTERIZE THE DEFECTS AS UNUSUAL TREAD WEAR. THE DEFECTS WERE ACTUALLY SIDEWALL SEPARATIONS. CONSUMER WAS ONLY PARTIALLY REIMBURSED FOR THE DEFECTS. *JG
OUR CONCERN STEMS FROM NOT ONLY THE FAILURE OF OUR TRANSMISSION, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY FROM THE NUMBER OF TIMES WE HAVE BEEN ASKED BY OTHERS, IF WE HAVE EVER HAD TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH THIS PARTICULAR MODEL. WE FREQUENTLY PULL OUR FIFTH WHEEL RV AND COME INTO CONTACT WITH NUMEROUS PEOPLE AT THE RV PARKS. IN TOO MANY CONVERSATIONS TO RECALL, THE TOPIC OF DISCUSSION HAS BEEN THE 2001 FORD F-350 TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. EVERYONE SEEMS TO HAVE EITHER ENCOUNTERED THE PROBLEM WITH THEIR OWN TRUCK OR KNOWS OF SOMEONE WHO HAS. WE BEGAN EXPERIENCING MINOR PROBLEMS AT AROUND 17,000 MILES WHICH INCREASINGLY GOT WORSE. THE PLANETARY (SP?) GEAR IS WHAT WE WERE TOLD WAS THE ACTUAL PROBLEM THAT FORD HAS PINPOINTED WITH THESE TRANSMISSIONS. THE NUMBER OF TRANSMISSION SHIPPING CASES ALONE, FOUND IN BACK OF THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE HAD OUR TRUCK REPAIRED INDICATIVE OF A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM NOT BEING ADDRESSED BY FORD. FROM WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED, THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT OCCUR UNTIL YOUR MILEAGE IS ABOVE 15,000. SINCE THE WARRANTY ON THE TRANSMISSION EXPIRES AT 36,000, I EXPECT FORD IS SIMPLY PLAYING THE ODDS ON THE REQUIRED REPLACEMENT HAPPENING AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD RATHER THAN ISSUING A RECALL ON THE PLANETARY (SP?)
