OVER THE PAST 1 1/2 MONTHS MY VEHICLE HAS STALLED ON THE FREEWAY 6 TIMES. EACH TIME THE "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON, THE DISPLAY READ "ENGINE MALFUNCTION" AND "SERVICE NOW". WHEN THIS WOULD HAPPEN, THE ENGINE TACHOMETER WOULD FIRST DROP TO 1000 RPM AND THE ACCELERATOR WOULD BECOME NON-RESPONSIVE. SOON AFTER THAT THE ENGINE WOULD JUST REV AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL; THEN "BAM" THE TRANSMISSION WOULD ENGAGE ABRUPTLY AND MAKE A LOUD BANG NOISE AND LAG WHEN SHIFTING. THIS HAS BECOME A MAJOR CONCERN AS I HAVE HAD PEOPLE ALMOST RUN INTO THE REAR OF ME BECAUSE OF MY DECLINE IN SPEED. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE VEHICLE BACK TO NORMAL OPERATION IS TO COMPLETELY PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS AND RESTART IT, UNFORTUNATELY BY DOING THIS IT RESETS THE FAULT CODES AND DOES NOT RETAIN THE INFORMATION FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE. I HAD BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND LEFT IT FOR A WEEK. THEY INSTALLED A "FLIGHT RECORDER" AND DROVE FOR OVER 114 MILES TO TRY TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM; BUT COULD NOT. I HAD PICK ED UP MY CAR DISSAPOINTED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND AS A RESULT COULD NOT FIX IT. WHEN I DROVE MY VEHICLE THAT SAME DAY TO WORK, IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT ONLY 26 MILES AFTER THEIR TESTING. I HAVE SEEN ON OTHER WEB SITES THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH OTHER 2011 FORD FIESTA'S, I ONLY HOPE FORD COMES UP WITH A FIX FOR THIS ISSUE SOON AS IT SEEMS TO ME TO BE A PROGRAM ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLES COMPUTER. *TR
FROM A STOP POSITION AT STOP SIGN, STOP LIGHT, ETC. WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE THE CAR SHUDDERS HARD AND SHAKES THEN IT CATCHES AND SPEEDS UP. I BOUGHT IT USED WITH 24000 MILES ON IT. REALLY UPSETTING WHEN TRYING TO CROSS TRAFFIC AND IT STARTS TO STALL AND SHUDDER. *TR
VEHICLE: 2011 FORD FIESTA, MANUAL TRANS., FWD. ROAD CONDITIONS: SNOW COVERED 1-2", NO ICE UNDERNEATH, NO SLUSH BUILDUP. INCIDENT: AT STOP SIGN WAITING TO TURN LEFT ONTO ROAD. ONCOMING TRAFFIC IN EITHER DIRECTION IS THRU, NO STOP. NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. ACCELERATING ACROSS TWO LANES TO TURN LEFT- DIVIDED 4 LANE MUNICIPAL ROAD 40MPH SPEED LIMIT. MIDWAY ACROSS ROAD, FRONT WHEELS BEGAN TO SLIP, TRACTION CONTROL ACTIVATED AND REMOVED POWER. CAR STOPPED IN MIDDLE OF ROAD. WAS UNABLE TO MOVE VEHICLE IN 1ST/2ND/3RD GEAR WITHOUT TRACTION CONTROL REMOVING POWER. IN FIRST INSTANCE, ONCOMING TRAFFIC HAD TO STOP WHILE I EXITED VEHICLE AND PUSHED VEHICLE INTO MEDIAN WHERE TRACTION WAS FOUND. THIS HAPPENED TWICE. AFTER SECOND OCCURRENCE, DETERMINATION WAS MADE TO ONLY TURN RIGHT TO NOT PLACE SELF AT RISK OF ACCIDENT. FOLLOW-UP RESEARCH: EARLY PRODUCTION FORD FIESTA ARE INCAPABLE OF DEACTIVATING TRACTION CONTROL. LATER MODELS DO AND IN THE 3RD PRINTING OF THE OWNERS MANUAL IT IS RECOMMENDED TO TURN OFF TRACTION CONTROL IN SNOW OR MUD. THIS ACTION WOULD ALLOW WHEELS TO SPIN TO PAVEMENT AND GENERATE SUFFICIENT TRACTION TO MAINTAIN OR BEGIN VEHICLE MOTION. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: ABOVE RESEARCH WAS OBTAINED BY DISCUSSION WITH FORD TECHNICAL SUPPORT/ENGINEERING. THEY ALSO ADVISED THAT IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO RETROFIT MY VEHICLE WITH THE CAPABILITY TO DEACTIVATE TRACTION CONTROL. I HAVE HAD VEHICLES IN THE PAST OF SIMILAR WEIGHT/POWERTRAIN/PROFILE WHICH WERE EQUIPPED WITH ONE-TOUCH BUTTONS TO DISABLE TRACTION CONTROL WHEN IN THE APPROPRIATE SITUATIONS. THESE CARS WERE VERY CAPABLE IN 1-2" OF SNOW WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL DISABLED. I HAVE ADVISED FORD THAT I INTENDED TO PROVIDE THIS REPORT TO NHTSA AND THEY LIKEWISE SAID THEY INTEND TO SELF-REPORT IT AS WELL. RECOMMENDATION: I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY WHATEVER MEANS NHTSA HAS AVAILABLE. *TR
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, TRIED SEVERAL TIMES BUT ONLY HEARD SOUND FROM STARTER BUT ENGINE DID NOT ATTEMPT TO START UNTIL A FOURTH TRY AND STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL. AFTER THIS THE VEHICLE WOULD FROM TIME TO TIME TURN OFF WHEN COMING TO A STOP. SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD AND REPLACED IT. *TR
2-3" OF SNOW, CAR WOULD NOT MOVE NO POWER TO WHEELS IN MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION, NO WAY TO DISABLE TRACTION CONTROL! COMPLAINED TO FORD AT VARIOUS LEVELS AND GOT NO SATISFACTION BASICALLY TELLING ME "TOO BAD". *TR
2011 FORD FIESTA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REQUEST TO INITIATE SAFETY RECALL FOR "BUCKING AND JERKING" PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE BUCKING AND JERKING WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND COMING TO A STOP. AT THE LAST MOMENT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD DROP INTO THE LOWEST GEAR WHILE THE ENGINE WAS STILL REDUCING ITS RPM. THE ENGINE IS THE PULLING AGAINST THE BRAKING ACTION WHEN THE RPM'S BUMP UP TO 16-18 RPM. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER, THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE SITUATION, BUT THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY ALSO STATED IT MAY REQUIRE REPROGRAMMING A CONTROL MODULE, WHICH THEY COULDN'T DO, UNLESS FORD INITIATED IT. *JB
THIS WAS THE CERTIFIED LETTER I SENT TO FORD: ON JUNE 12, 2012, I PURCHASED/FINANCED A NEW 2011 FORD FIESTA AT ANDY SHAW FORD IN SYLVA, NC. UNFORTUNATELY, THE FIESTA HAS NOT PERFORMED WITH RELIABILITY OR SAFETY DUE TO CHRONIC TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND HAS CAUSED AMPLE INCONVENIENCES AS WELL AS SAFETY CONCERNS FOR MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER WHEN I AM OPERATING THE VEHICLE. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE I HAVE HAD THE CAR SERVICED SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE SAME SYMPTOMS AND TRANSMISSION ISSUES. ENCLOSED ARE COPIES OF THE VEHICLE'S SERVICE RECORDS. EACH TIME, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS CLAIMED TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, AFTER A FEW MONTHS, I BEGIN EXPERIENCING THE SAME SYMPTOMS. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, I HAVE EXPERIENCED LIFE THREATENING SITUATIONS ON THE ROAD WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE (ALMOST BEING REAR-ENDED, GETTING STUCK AND ALMOST BEING HIT WHILE TRYING TO PULL OUT OF A PARKING LOT OR TRYING TO MAKE A TURN ACROSS AN INTERSECTION) DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONING/STALLING/LURCHING FORWARD AND END UP BACK IN THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT, YET AGAIN. I HAVE ALSO BEEN IN CONTACT WITH A CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER REGARDING THESE ISSUES, MICHELLE (AT 1-866-631-3788, EXT. 77796), WHO HAS YET TO OFFER ANY REAL, VALID ASSISTANCE. TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR REPLACING THE VEHICLE WITH ONE THAT PROVIDES SAFETY AND RELIABILITY, AT NO COST TO ME. I BELIEVE I AM ENTITLED TO THIS ACCORDING TO GEORGIA LEMON LAW. I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR REPLY AND A RESOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 21ST, 2016. WAITING ANY LONGER WILL PUT MY AND MY DAUGHTER'S SAFETY AND LIFE AT FURTHER RISK. ***FORD WROTE BACK AND DENIED MY REQUEST FOR A SAFE, RELIABLE VEHICLE REPLACEMENT. THEY ARE IGNORING THE SEVERITY OF THE SAFETY ISSUE AND SIMPLY TOLD ME TO KEEP WORKING WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FIESTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRACTION FUNCTION WAS USED WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH UPHILL HOWEVER, THE TRACTION FUNCTION COULD NOT BE DISENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.
WHILE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC, TRANSMISSION SHUDDERED AND FAILED TO OPERATE CAUSING TRAFFIC TO COME TO A HALT. THIS WAS THE FIRST INCIDENT. SEVERAL TIMES AFTERWARDS, TRANSMISSION WOULD SHUDDER AND VIBRATE WHILE SHIFTING GEARS. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP IN NOVEMBER OF 2012 WHEN THIS FIRST OCCURRED AND THEY UPDATED THE TRANSMISSION PROGRAM. THIS UPDATE DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON FEBRUARY 22, 2013 FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY'RE REPLY WAS, "THIS IS NORMAL". THIS IS NOT NORMAL, THIS CAR IS A DEATH TRAP. I ONLY DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ABOUT 9 MILES TO WORK A DAY AND I FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING IT. *TR
I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS INSTANCES OF MY CAR JUST DYING ON THE ROAD. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I WAS MAKING A TURN INTO MY SUBDIVISION IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. WHEN I HIT THE GAS MY CAR SLOWLY ROLLED INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. LUCKILY THE ONCOMING DRIVERS WERE PAYING ATTENTION AND SLOWED DOWN ENOUGH TO NOT HIT ME. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD, PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT. THIS HAPPENED ON AND OFF BUT THE DEALER COULD NEVER FIND AN ISSUE. TO START IT WAS NO MORE THAN ONCE A DAY BUT THIS WEEKEND IT HAPPENED AT ALMOST EVERY STOP. IT CONTINUES TO HAVE THIS ISSUE. WHEN I STOP AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN IT RUMBLES AND CUTS OFF. IT HAS GOTTEN SO BAD THAT I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE DOWN BUSY STREETS. I KEEP MY RADIO OFF JUST SO I CAN BE SURE TO HEAR WHEN THIS HAPPENS OTHERWISE I'LL BE CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC AGAIN. IN ADDITION TO THIS MOST RECENT ISSUE, THE CAR HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES IN THE PAST. THE FIRST MONTH THAT I PURCHASED THIS CAR IT WOULD JUST NOT TURN ON MOST MORNINGS, OR EVEN AFTER BEING OFF FOR A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. *TR
THE CAR STARTED SHAKING THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THERE HAVE BEEN COUNTLESS OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS FORD PRODUCT. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS. *TR
NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN DRIVING MY 2011 FORD FIESTA THE RPM'S SHOOT WAY UP AND THE CAR WON'T ACCELERATE WHEN I HIT THE GAS. EVEN WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 45MPH AND TRY TO GO FASTER THE CAR STALLS AND WONT ACCELERATE AT ALL AND GET QUITE SCARY WHEN THIS HAPPENS, ESPECIALLY ON A HIGHWAY WHEN YOU COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AND THIS HAPPENS AND I HAVE HAD TO PUT IT IN PARK TURN IT OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON TO GET IT TO ACCELERATE NORMALLY AGAIN. *TR
THE CAR IS AT THE DEALER FOR THE THIRD TIME SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH. WHILE DRIVING, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN "DRIVE" ANYMORE, AND I HAVE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN OFF CAR, AND RESTART. IT IS AS IF THE TRANSMISSION JUST GOES OUT. THIS CAN HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES IN ONE DRIVING SESSION AND HAS HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY, ON SIDE STREETS, BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, ETC. THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON REPEATEDLY EACH TIME. CAR ALSO LURCHES AND SOUNDS AS IF IT MIGHT STALL AT RANDOM TIMES WHEN ACCELERATING. EACH TIME, THE DEALER TEST DRIVES AFTER THE "FIX" HAVE BEEN FROM 0 MILES TO 6 MILES, IT DOES NOT SEEM LIKE THIS TEST DRIVE IS LONG ENOUGH TO SEE THE ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD TO ME AND MY FAMILY AND I HAVE LOST FAITH IN FORD IN FIXING/DEALING WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR
POWERTRAIN: HAVE HAD CHATTERING IN LOWER GEARS OF MY 2011 FORD FIESTA SE.....ACTS LIKE IS STRAINING AT TIMES TO GO INTO GEAR.....HAVE HAD IT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY TELL ME IT IS NORMAL....ALSO CONTACTED FORD VIA EMAIL AND THEY CONCUR WITH THE DEALER..THE DEALER DID SOME COMPUTER UPDATES AND WHEN I GOT IT BACK IT STILL CHATTERS...........WHAT HAPPENS IF IT FAILS AND FORD REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM....AS THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IS ONLY FOR 60,000 MILES AND I TRAVEL 60-90 MILES A DAY BACK AND FORTH TO WORK WHAT KIND OF DEPENDABLE VEHICLE DO I HAVE....... *TR
2011 FORD FIESTA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE WOULD BECOME SICK, EXPERIENCE SHORTNESS OF BREATH AND BECOME EMOTIONAL WHEN HE USED THE AIR CONDITION OR THE HEATER. ALSO, THERE WERE TIMES WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND THE BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED.
I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO SEPARATE DEALERSHIPS TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE AND IT CONTINUES. INITIALLY, THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING. AFTER THE FIRST REPAIR, THE CAR BEGAN SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY. THE SECOND REPAIR CORRECTED THE SHAKING, BUT NOW (AT 15,755 MILES) THE CAR WILL (1) MAKE GRINDING METALLIC NOISES WHEN SHIFTING, (2) FAIL TO SHIFT ON ANY INCLINE (INSTEAD IT REVS TO APPROXIMATELY 2500 RPMS AND "STICKS" THERE), (3) JOLT FORWARD WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED AS IF THE ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED DOWN, AND (4) ROLL BACKWARDS ON HILLS AS IF IT IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I UNDERSTAND THAT (4) CAN BE COMMON AMONG NEWER AUTOMATICS THAT ATTEMPT HIGHER FUEL ECONOMY. HOWEVER, NUMEROUS TIMES THE SPEED AT WHICH THE CAR ROLLS BACK HAS INCURRED A SAFETY RISK. THIS SEEMS TO BE ANOTHER INDICATION OF AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FIESTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 25 TO 30 MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE CUT HER OFF, CAUSING A CRASH. UPON IMPACT, THE DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND FROM THE FLOOR LEVEL. THE AIR BAG THAT DEPLOYED FROM THE FLOOR WAS SEWED STITCHED ON THE OUTSIDE AND THE SEAM WAS EXTREMELY SHARP. THE DRIVER RECEIVED LACERATIONS HER RIGHT WRIST. THE POLICE WERE CONTACTED AND A REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL LATER ON WHERE SHE RECEIVED STITCHES AND BELIEVED THERE WAS ALSO SOME NERVE DAMAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS LATER CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THEY WOULD SEND OUT COMPLAINT FORMS, WHICH HE NEVER RECEIVED. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 15,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,000. UPDATED 12/19/12 *CN UPDATED 1/10/2013 *JS
CAR WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN 2010 AND WITHIN A YEAR CAR BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH ACCELERATION, DECELERATION, BUCKING, JERKING, GEAR CHANGES AND JUST ERRATIC SHIFTING. CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY AND WILL STALL WHEN STOPPING. WE BEGAN COMPLAINING TO THE DEALERSHIP (METRO FORD SCHENECTADY NY) WITHIN A YEAR AFTER PURCHASE AND HAVE COMPLAINED MULTIPLE TIMES AND JUST GET SHRUGGED OFF AND TOLD THAT IT'S NORMAL FOR THE DUAL CLUTCH. LAST MONTH 09/16 THE TCM FULLY WENT AND WAS REPLACED AND WHEN I WENT TO PICK IT UP IT WAS BUCKING AND SHUTTERING AND REVVING UP TO 2500 RPM WITHOUT ME EVEN BEING ON THE GAS PEDAL AT ALL AND THEY INSIST THIS IS NORMAL DUE TO THE REFLASH AND WILL EVEN OUT AFTER DRIVING FOR A WHILE WHICH IS INSANE TO ME THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO DRIVE A JERKING AND SHUDDERING ERRATICALLY SHIFTING VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY TO WORK PRAYING MY CAR DOESN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS ONGOING ISSUE FOR 6 YEARS NOW HAS DRAINED ME AND DETERRED ME FROM EVER WANTING TO OWN ANOTHER FORD EVER AGAIN.
THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE COMPLETELY SHEARED OFF PREVENTING THE CAR FROM STARTING. THE CIRCULAR LUG USED TO CONNECT THE CABLE TO THE POSITIVE BATTERY POST IS TOO THIN FOR THE SIZE OF THE CABLE AND EXTRA SAFETY FUSES AND CIRCUITRY. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE SUCH A POORLY DESIGNED PART HAS A LEAD TIME FROM FORD'S OEM IN MEXICO OF 4-6 WEEKS. THE CAR HAS BEEN AT NORTH CENTRAL FORD IN RICHARDSON, TEXAS, SINCE 15 AUGUST. AFTER MISSING THE PART DELIVERY DEADLINE THREE TIMES THE DEALERSHIP FINALLY PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR. AS OF THE WRITING OF THIS ISSUE THE FORD FIESTA HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 26 DAYS, STILL WAITING FOR THE ORIGINAL PART FROM THE OEM. *TR
THE REAR SEAT HEAD RESTRAINTS IN THE 2011 FORD FIESTA CREATE SIZABLE BLIND SPOTS WHEN THE DRIVER LOOKS OUT THE BACK WINDOW. I MUST TAKE THE HEAD RESTRAINTS OUT AND STORE THEM IN THE HATCH IN ORDER TO HAVE AN OBSTRUCTED VIEW, AND I MUST REINSTALL THEM WHEN I HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE REAR SEAT. SINCE FORD HAS FIXED THIS PROBLEM IN LATER MODEL FIESTAS BY INSTALLING FOLDING HEAD RESTRAINTS, I URGE FORD TO RECALL THE 2011 FIESTAS IN ORDER TO DO THE SAME. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR LOST POWER AND I HAD TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT GOT IT TO RE-ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT IT IS A BAD TRANSMISSION, THAT I WAS LOOSING ONE OF THE CLUTCHES (THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC, DUAL-CLUTCH TRANSMISSION). WHILE FORD OFFERED ME $600 OFF A NEW TRANSMISSION, I DIDN'T HAVE THE MONEY TO PUT A NEW TRANSMISSION IN, AND I CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE CAR. ON MARCH 4TH, WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH IN TOWN, THE CAR AGAIN LOST POWER. I COASTED TO THE SHOULDER, PARKED THE CAR AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT. THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT START AND COULD NOT BE SHIFTED OUT OF PARK. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR, THE CAR MADE SOME MYSTERIOUS CLICKING SOUNDS AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM, BUT DECIDED TO REPROGRAM THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WITH AN UPDATE. EXACTLY A WEEK LATER (MARCH 11TH), THE CAR LOST POWER WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, LEAVING ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF A 3-LANE MAJOR CITY ROAD AT RUSH HOUR. I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND PUSHED THE CAR OUT OF THE STREET. ONCE AGAIN, IT REFUSED TO RESTART AND ONCE I PLACED IT IN PARK, THE TRANSMISSION WAS STUCK THERE. IT NEVER DID RECOVER AND HAD TO BE DRAGGED ONTO THE TOW TRUCK BED. THIS TIME THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT NOT ONLY ARE THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH PLATES BAD, BUT NOW THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE IS ALSO DONE. THE CAR HAS 92,000 MILES ON IT NOW, THE MAJORITY OF WHICH (85% OR SO) ARE HIGHWAY MILES (I LIVE OVER 70 MILES FROM WHERE I WORK). I AM WAITING FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION TO COME FROM THE FACTORY. I WAS TOLD YESTERDAY (3/20/2013) THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS ON BACKORDER. I CAN ONLY CONCLUDE THAT EITHER THE NEW TRANSMISSIONS ARE BEING RETOOLED BEFORE BEING RELEASED, OR THERE ARE SO MANY FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS, THEY CAN'T KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND. *TR
I HAD A 2011 FORD FIESTA, I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A JERKING/LUNGING MOTION WHEN THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS FROM TIME TO TIME. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT TWICE BECAUSE OF THIS WITH MY 8 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND GIRL SCOUTS IN THE CAR. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND HAVE INFORMED THEIR SERVICE DEPT. /MECHANIC OF THE ISSUE. THEY ASSURED ME THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG AND THE VEHICLES COMPUTER IS ADJUSTING TO HOW I DRIVE THE CAR AND THAT IS WHY IT IS DOING THIS. THEY REPLACED THE CLUTCH AND REPROGRAMMED MY CAR OVER FOUR TIMES? I HAVE DONE A LITTLE RESEARCH AND FOUND THIS WEBSITES AFTER WEBSITE WITH PEOPLE WITH OTHER COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE. I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT. IT TOOK A WEEK FOR SOMEONE TO CALL BE BACK AND I WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS FINE. I TRIED TO CALL BACK, BUT YOU ONLY GET TO THE CALL CENTER AND NO FURTHER. I WAS REFUSED TO BE TRANSFERRED TO A MANAGER AND WAS TOLD THAT WAS THAT?S THE WAY THE CAR WAS DESIGNED TO DRIVE. I WAS OFFERED A DISCOUNT THE X PLAN TO TRADE IN MY CAR FOR ANOTHER BUT THAT WOULD NOT HELP. WHEN DEALING WITH THE DEALERSHIP THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID I AM SORRY I CAN'T HELP YOU ANYMORE. WE GET AT LEAST 6 CALLS A DAY ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM BUT UNTIL FORD DOES SOMETHING THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO. I WORK WITH THREE OTHER WOMEN THAT ALSO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR CARS. DRIVING IN TRAFFIC NORMAL SPEED ABOUT 40-45 MPH, VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING COMPLETELY. NORMAL COMMUTE & ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED SINCE THE CAR STARTED TO DECELERATE QUICKLY. ONCE WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WE TRIED SWITCHING THE GEARS AND RESTARTING THE CAR. AFTER THIS, THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART AT ALL. TAKEN THE CAR TO FORD MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY HAVE RAN ALL SORTS OF DIAGNOSTICS AND WE FIND OURSELVES AT THE DEALERSHIP AT LEAST EVERY 2-3 MONTHS WITH ISSUES. FORD CORPORATE DID NOTHING BUT PROVIDE EXTENDED WARRANTY. WHAT WOULD THEY HAVE DONE IF WE WERE ACTUALLY REAR ENDED & SEVERELY HURT BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY CAR? IT IS HAS BEEN REBUILT SEVERAL TIMES, FLASHED TCM'S AT $120 A POP, BUT IT IS SO DANGEROUS IT NEEDS TO BE CRUSHED. THIS MODEL ALSO HAS A POORLY ENGINEERED NEGATIVE GROUND WIRE THAT HAS COST TIME AND MONEY HUNTING 'GHOST' SENSOR PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE. EARLY YEAR 2011 MODELS OF FORD FIESTA DO NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO DISABLE THE ELEC. STABILITY CONTROL KNOWN AS ADVANCTRAC FOR DRIVING IN ICY CONDITIONS. WHILE DRIVING UP A HILL WITH SNOW AND/OR ICE COVER THE FRONT DRIVE TIRES STARTED TO SPIN SLIGHTLY. THE ENGINE AUTOMATICALLY REDUCED POWER IMMEDIATELY TO BOTH WHEELS UNTIL ALL FORWARD MOMENTUM CEASED. AT THIS POINT THE VEHICLE STARTED SLIDING BACKWARD DOWN THE HILL WITH NO CONTROL SINCE THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE WHEELS. THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS THE HILL HAD A STEEP DROP-OFF ON ONE SIDE AND TREES ON THE OTHER. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE OUR 2010 FORD FOCUS AND OUR 2001 CHEVROLET BLAZER UP THE SAME HILL AT THAT TIME WITH NO ISSUES OR HESITATION. A SIMILAR EVENT HAS OCCURRED ON A LEVEL ROAD WHERE THE SNOW IS DEEP AND THE VEHICLE HAS COME TO A STOP. IF BOTH TIRES START TO SPIN, POWER IS REDUCED TO THE DRIVE WHEELS AND THE VEHICLE IS EFFECTIVELY STUCK. THIS IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS AT SLIPPERY INTERSECTIONS. IF THE VEHICLE HAD A DISABLE FUNCTION FOR THE ADVANCTRAC, THE CAR COULD EASILY BE DRIVEN OUT OF ICY CONDITIONS SUCH AS THESE. THERE IS NO INFORMATION IN MY OWNER'S MANUAL (1ST PRINTING) ON THIS CONDITION. IN LATER MANUALS (3RD PRINTING WHICH CAN BE DOWNLOADED) FORD HAS PROVIDED A MANUAL SHUT-OFF THROUGH THE MULTIFUNCTION DISPLAY. THIS OPTION DOES NOT EXIST ON MY VEHICLE'S MULTIFUNCTION DISPLAY. EARLY 2011MY FORD FIESTAS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND UPDATED TO FIX THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION. *TR
AT A COMPLETE STOP TO TURN RIGHT WITH BRAKE PRESSED, THE ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT WORK AS I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF THE STREET TURNING RIGHT UNTIL EVENTUALLY THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE. VERY SCARY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FIESTA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, A WARNING CHIME SOUNDED, THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS OR REPAIRS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FIESTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE BRAKES EMITTED A VERY LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE NOISE WAS CAUSED BY DIRT AND THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WELL MY FORD FIESTA HAD LESS THAN 1800 MILES ON IT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION STARTED CHATTERING WHILE HOLDING A STEADY TRAFFIC SPEED OF 30 MPH AFTER IT WARMED UP. NOW IT DOES IT BAD BETWEEN 30 AND 55 MPH, STILL AFTER IT IS WARMED UP. IT?S FINE WHEN IT?S COLD. ALSO TWICE AFTER DRIVING 2900 MILES ON THE CAR, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT RELEASE WHEN TRYING TO STOP AT A STOP LIGHT. IT DROVE ME THROUGH A RED LIGHT, TWICE. IT WAS AS IF I WAS DRIVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR AND FORGOT TO PUT THE CLUTCH IN. SCARED ME TO DEATH, BUT I?M FORCED TO KEEP DRIVING IT. TOOK IT TO KLINE MOTORS, A FORD DEALERSHIP IN WINFIELD KS. THEY SAID THEY WORKED ON IT FOR 2 HOURS AND CHARGED ME OVER $175 AND DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING I COULD TELL EXCEPT OFFER TO REPLACE THE TRANNY FOR $5200. FOR 2 HOURS WORK THEY DID NOT EVEN UP-DATE THE COMPUTER THAT DRIVES THE TRANSMISSION. I BET THE MECHANIC NEVER EVEN TOUCHED IT. FORD WILL NOT COVER IT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS IN A VERY MINOR FENDER BENDER AND THE TITLE WAS MARKED REBUILDER. WHAT A COP OUT. WHAT TICKS ME OFF ABOUT KLINE?S IS I TOLD THE SERVICE MANGER I RE-BUILT THE CAR, WHICH WAS NOTHING MORE THAN A FRONT BUMPER COVER AND AC LINES FOR THE MOST PART AND ALL THE PARTS WERE OEM PARTS. I ASKED KLINE?S TO CHECK THE VIN TO MAKE SURE FORD WOULD COVER IT, NEVER CHECKED IT BUT SAID IT WOULD BE COVERED TO 36,000 MILES AND BRING IT IN ANYWAY. WHY THE CAR WAS FLAGGED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY I HAVE NO IDEA, BUT FORD IS SURE USING IT AS AN EXCUSE NOT TO TOUCH IT. IN ANY CASE I GOT A PIECE OF CRAP FORD FIESTA THAT I?M SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE, BUT FOR NOW I?M STUCK WITH IT EVERY DAY, AND EVERY DAY WONDERING IF IT?S GOING TO DRIVE ME THROUGH ANOTHER INTERSECTION TO GET HIT BY SOMEONE. IF I WAS FORD I WOULD BE SCARED TO DEATH WITH THESE CARS ON THE ROAD. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE NTSB SHOULD FORCE THEM TO MAKE A RE-CALL FOR SAFETY REASONS. *TR
FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED IN NOV, 2014 ON A COLD SATURDAY NIGHT. DRIVING AND ALL OF SUDDEN CAR, TURNS ITSELF OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND I HAVE NO POWER, NO NOTHING, I'M TRYING TO AVOID BEING KILLED, BECAUSE I HAVE NO EMERGENCY LIGHTS OR ANYTHING. I GET OUT AND START WAVING TRAFFIC TO GO AROUND. I HAD TO CALL POLICE, WHO CAME AND STAYED WITH ME FOR TWO OR MORE HOURS, CAUSE HE TRIED UNSUCCESSFULLY TO GET MY CAR TO GO IN GEAR AND START. TO NO AVAIL. WE WERE THERE ON BLOCKING TRAFFIC. WITHOUT THIS OFFICER HELP, I KNOW I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED, BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. SECOND TIME, I'M AT SCHOOL. READY TO LEAVE FOR THE DAY, EVERYONE'S LEAVING EXCEPT ME. DOES IT AGAIN. THIS TIME I HAVE TO LEAVE IT. 3RD. TIME I'M AT CAR WASH. DRIVER BEGAN TO MOVE MY CAR TO BE WASHED, YOU GUESSED IT, AGAIN EMBARASS WON'T START AND SAYS IT'S NOT IN GEAR. I CALL DEALERSHIP, AGAIN WHO SAYS THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT OR WHY OR WHAT TO DO. AND YOU GUESSED IT, GO TO VISIT MY DAUGHTER. ONLY PROBLEM IS I CAN'T LEAVE, SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. THIS TIME I GOTTA LEAVE IT AGAIN. DEALERSHIP COMES OUT NEXT DAY, AND THEY CAN'T GET IT STARTED, NOW IT'S STILL SITTING AT MY DAUGHTER'S HOUSE, JUST WAITING TO SEE NOW. WHAT MY OPTIONS ARE AS A CONSUMER.
