THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY IS BAD IN MAJORITY OF VEHICLES IN MY CLASS YEAR. THIS COSTLY REPAIR CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LUNGE FORWARD WHILE IN DRIVE AND LUNGE BACKWARDS WHILE IN REVERSE. IT IS WORST WHEN THE AC IS ON,,IT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO IDLE HIGH AND LOW TO THE POINT OF ALMOST SHUTTING OFF THE VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THEN VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO INCREASE SPEED AND EVENTUALLY, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
I HAD THE NEED TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT BY SUDDENLY CHANGING LANES BUT WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL MY TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT TO HIGHER SPEED. INSTEAD TWO CLUNKING SOUNDS TOOK PLACE BEFORE FINALLY SWITCHING INTO HIGHER GEAR .I WAS ABLE TO AVOID THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME , BUT NOW THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST REAR ENDED US. THIS WOULD HAVE CREATED A FATAL CHAIN REACTION WE COULD HAVE BEEN CRUSHED IN. I FOUND OUT THIS CARS HAVE A GREAT AMOUNT OF FAILURES ON RECORD FORD 500 2005 PLEASE HELP *JS
I HAVE AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION DE-ENGAGING WHEN THE TEMPERATURE OF THE TRANSMISSION WARMS UP. WHEN I ACCELERATE WHEN PASSING OR USING THE CRUISE CONTROL THE TRANSMISSION WILL DIS-ENGAGE LEAVING ME WITH NO FORWARD POWER, I MUST PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND HOPE IT ENGAGES ALL THE WHILE ALMOST BEING RUN OVER BY TWO SEMI-TRUCKS. THIS HAPPENED ALMOST A DOZEN TIMES DOWN AND BACK ON MY TRIP FROM BUFFALO TO PEAPACK NJ ON MONDAY 4/16/2012. THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM THAT FORD IS AWARE ON THE FIVE HUNDRED MODEL, MONTEGO AND SOME FUSION MODELS. MANY START TO FAIL AT LESS THAN 30,000 MILES AND HAPPENED AT 65,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. I CONSIDER THIS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND AMAZED NO ONE HAS BEEN KILLED DUE TO THESE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS. THE FORD FORUM HAS OVER 10 PAGES OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. FORD TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNLESS THERE WAS A RECALL.

THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED THAT THE TRUNK LIGHT WAS ON FIRE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT CALLED AND NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WHEN A LOUD POP WAS HEARD AND SUDDENLY, THE SUN ROOF GLASS EXPLODED. THE GLASS SHATTERED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURY TO THE EYE FROM SMALL FRAGMENTS OF GLASS ENTERING THE EYE. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE REAR TRUNK AND REAR BUMPER SUSTAINED SEVERE SCRATCHES. THE WAS TAKEN TO A COLLISION CENTER FOR REPAIR. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW GLASS EXHIBITED SPIDER CRACKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,724.
THE CAR PERIODICALLY LURCHED AND SURGED. FINALLY, IT WOULD NOT START. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE. BASED ON INFORMATION FROM THE DEALER AND FROM THIS WEBSITE, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON CERTAIN FORD MODELS. BEING STOPPED AT AN ATM, MY CAR BEGAN TO SMOKE. PULLED OVER INTO THE BANK PARKING LOT TO SEE IF IT WAS OVER HEATING. THE WHITE SMOKE WOULD NOT SUBSIDE AND BEGAN GETTING WORSE. DIALED 911 AND A FIRETRUCK CAME OUT OPENED THE HOOD AND EXTINGUISHED A FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. PRIOR TO THE TRUCK ARRIVING, A LOUD BANG OCCURRED UNDER THE HOOD. *TR
WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WILL STOP ACCELERATING AND A FAIL SAFETY MODE LIGHT COMES ON, IF YOU PULL OVER AND RESTART IT, IT WILL RESTART AND HAPPENS A FEW MINUTES LATER. *TR

THE FAILURE OCCURRED SPORADICALLY WHEN DRIVING AT LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

SINCE 2007 THE CAR INTERMITTENTLY WILL PERIODICALLY LUNG FORWARD AND IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE JUNE 2007 (88,000 MILES). EVEN HARD BRAKING DOES NOT NECESSARILY STOP THE CAR...I HAVE HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL THE ENGINE REVS UP AS IF I AM TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR (AND MY FOOT IS NOT ON THE PEDAL) AND I SHUT THE CAR OFF. TURNING THE CAR BACK ON DOES NOT NECESSARILY REMEDY THE PROBLEM. IN ADDITION, THE CAR ROUTINELY GOES INTO FAIL SAFE ENGINE MODE OR CUTS OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING AT A REASONABLE RATE OF SPEED BOTH ON RURAL ROADS AND HIGHWAYS. THIS CAR IS A HAZARD TO DRIVE, MORE SO IN THE WARMER MONTHS...MY THOUGHT IS SOMETHING MUST GET OVERHEATED BUT WHAT I DO NOT KNOW. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS FAILED AND THE REVERSE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THEIR OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 190,000.

THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY. THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 67,407.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE ENGINE STALLED ON ME AND I RECEIVED A "FAILSAFE ENGINE MODE" MESSAGE IN THE MESSAGE CENTER. I STOPPED THE CAR AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, THEN WAITED A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND HAD NO PROBLEMS. I WAS THEN DRIVING DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET AGAIN A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHERE THE ENGINE STALLED ON ME. THE ONLY WARNING SIGNS THAT I CAN RECALL WERE THAT AT TIMES, I WOULD EXPERIENCE SLUGGISH ACCELERATION. THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE TO ME AND VERY DANGEROUS SINCE I HAVE A CHILD AND WHAT IF I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THIS HAPPENED TO ME? *TR
DRIVING IN TOWN, AT APPROX 25MPH. CAR JERKED/LURCHED SUDDENTLY, THEN ENTERED LIMP HOME MODE. PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF CAR. RESTARTED AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TURNS OUT IT IS A THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. SHOP SAYS THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION - THE CAR COULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE/DECELERATE WITHOUT NOTICE. LOOKING AT ONLINE FORUMS - IT SEEM A FAIRLY COMMON FAILURE, AND SOMETHING FORD SHOULD ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL ON. *TT
THE CAR SUDDEN SURGES FORWARD OR BACK WHEN MOVING OUT OF PARK. IF YOUR FOOT IS NOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE IT WILL GO MOVE SIGNIFICANTLY. UPON RESEARCH ONLINE AND TALKING TO FORD DIRECTLY THIS IS KNOWN PROBLEM THAT IS NOT UNDER RE-CALL YET BUT SHOULD BE. OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER CARRIES THE THROTTLE BOTTLE IN STOCK BECAUSE THEY SELL SO MANY OF THEM. THEY AVERAGE 10 A YEAR. A SIMPLE RESEARCH OF THE PROBLEM SHOWS UP. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. ALSO IF THERE IS QUICK STOP IT WILL GO TO A FAIL SAFE MODE AND BASICALLY SHUT OFF THE CAR COMPLETELY. THE CAR HAS TO BE SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED IN ORDER TO MOVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN. THE THROTTLE BOTTLE MUST BE REPLACED IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE SAFE AS A PARTS COST OF ALMOST $600.00. *TR
2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO HARD SHIFTING AND TWO INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATING. *TGW THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE RPM'S WOULD RACE AT TIMES. THE CONSUMER WENT TO HER LOCAL DEALER AND A DIAGNOSTIC'S TEST REVEALED A PROBLEM WITH THE PCV VALVE. THE PCV WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $ 112.95. HOWEVER, IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER WENT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A TRANSMISSION DIAGNOSTIC TEST, BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO GIVE A DEFINITIVE ANSWER AS TOW HAT THE PROBLEM WAS. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS THEN CONTACTED AND THEY INFORMED THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $5000. THERE WAS ALSO ANOTHER INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD REV WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, OR RED LIGHT ETC. AFTER GETTING OTHER OPINIONS, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED, THE PROBLEM WAS NOT WITH THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED IT WAS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH HER PARTICULAR MAKE, WHICH SEEMED TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT.
DRIVING FROM SJ TO LA, CALIF. 200 MILES INTO MY JOURNEY WITH WIFE AND 3 KIDS, PULLED OFF HIGHWAY FOR GAS. SLOWED DOWN AND NOTICED THE WRENCH AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ON AND CAR WOULD ONLY GO 10 TO 15 MILES PER HOUR AND REVVED AT MORE THAN 3000 RPMS. THE CAR CLUNKED HARD WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, SEVERAL TIMES AND RESTARTED. SOMETIMES FIXED PROBLEM, OTHER TIMES DID NOT. I HAD CAR TOWED TO HANFORD, CALIFORNIA, AND THEN AGAIN TO LOS ANGELES-ANOTHER 198 MILES TO FORD DEALERSHIP. I HAD TO RENT A CAR AND DRIVE THE REST OF THE WAY TO LA AND DRIVE BACK - 198 MILES-TO HANFORD-TO RETURN THE RENTAL CAR. I TESTED THE CAR A FEW TIMES IN HANFORD AND WHEN IT WAS AT THE FORD DEALER. FROM A COLD START, THE CAR WORKED FINE. DROVE AND SHIFTED WELL WITH NO PROBLEMS. BUT ONCE THE CAR WARMED UP, IT WENT BACK INTO LIMP-MODE, CLUNKED HARD WHEN YOU SHIFTED INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE, AND WOULD GO ONLY 10-15 MPH AT 3000 OR MORE RPMS. THE DEALER TEST DROVE IT AND HAD THE SAME RESULT. THE DEALER GOT CODES P0701, P0871, AND P0961 AND SAID THAT MEANT THE TRANSMISSION HAD INTERNAL PROBLEMS. THEY SAID THEY CALLED FORD ENGINEERS WHO TOLD THEM THE LIKELY PROBLEM WAS WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WARMS UP, IT IS NOT PROPERLY CIRCULATING DUE TO LEAKS IN WHAT THEY CALLED TWO VARIATORS INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION. THEY QUOTED THE COST TO REPLACE THE VARIATORS AS $3600 FOR PARTS AND LABOR OF $1200 FOR A TOTAL OF $4800 AND THAT IS MORE THAN THE COST TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FOR WHICH THEY QUOTED $4500. SO THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER STARTING, THEY FOUND A BROKEN TRANSMISSION MOUNT SO THEY REPLACED THAT FOR ANOTHER $250 (PART ONLY - NO LABOR CHARGE). I TEST DROVE THE NEW TRANSMISSION YESTERDAY. THE CAR NO LONGER GOES INTO LIMP MODE AND DRIVES NICELY EXCEPT AFTER IT WARMS UP IT CLUNKS HARD INTO DRIVE AND REVERSE AND WINES IN REVERSE GEAR. NOT TAKING CAR TILL FIXED PROPERLY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WOULD THEN ENTER INTO FAIL SAFE MODE AND STALL. THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR UPON RESTART. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH PROPERLY AFTER INCLEMENT WEATHER SUCH AS ICE, SNOW OR RAIN. THE CONTACT WOULD HOLD OPEN THE DOOR HANDLE AND SHOVE IT A FEW TIMES IN ORDER TO ENTER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TO ENSURE THAT THE DOOR WOULD REMAIN SHUT WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V383000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH) AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.

IN ADDITION, THE REAR BACK UP SENSORS WERE BUZZING HAPHAZARDLY. THE CONTACT CHECKED ALL OF THE FUSES AND WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN O A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE AREA WHERE THE WATER WAS PENETRATING THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 112,000.
CARS ENTERS INTO FAILSAFE MODE AND ENGINE CUTS OUT. I HAVE BEEN ALMOST REAR- ENDED THREE TIMES SINCE FIRST OCCURRENCE AND ONE TIME ALMOST T-BONED. SLUGGISH ACCELERATION WHEN TAKING OFF MAY OCCUR ALSO. I HAVE NOTICED THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AND THE FAULTY THROTTLE BODY HAS SINCE BEEN REDESIGNED BY FORD. THEY SHOULD RECALL THIS AS IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I KNOW THAT I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE NOT BEEN INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS FAULTY PART, BUT I AM SURE SOME HAVE NOT BEEN SO LUCKY. *TR
2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED SEL 3.0L V6 AUTOMATIC 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION ACCELERATING ON INTERSTATE CAR SEVERELY HARD SHIFTED AND THEN RPMS FLARED LET OFF GAS AND CAR SLAMMED INTO A LOWER GEAR NOW CAR HARD SHIFTS IN DOWN GEARS AND RPMS GO UP CAR DOESN'T MOVE SOMETIMES WHILE ACCELERATING VERY SPORADIC AND DANGEROUS. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 109,102.

THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,500.
ON 7/27/11 CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND ACCELERATED PAST NORMAL DRIVING SPEED. CAR HAS BEEN DOING THIS (LUNGING) SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BACK IN 2008, BUT HAS BEEN ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS. THE VEHICLE HAS RPM SURGES AT LOW SPEEDS EITHER IN REVERSE OR FORWARD. I NEARLY HAD 3-4 ACCIDENTS IN 2 DAYS BECAUSE OF THE ISSUE. I HAVE THE WRENCH LIGHT UP ON THE DASH BOARD AND IT SAID ENGINE FAILSAFE MODE IN THE MESSAGE CENTRE? THIS STARTED HAPPENING TO ME A FEW WEEKS AGO FROM TIME TO TIME. THIS TIME, I WAS GOING INTO AN UNDERGROUND PARKING SPOT AND IT STARTED REVVING AND I ENDED UP (VERY LIGHTLY) HITTING THE WALL AS IT LURCHED FORWARD. WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE THE SPOT - IN REVERSE - HAPPENED AGAIN - ALMOST HIT THE PARKED CAR BEHIND, AS IT LURCHED. SO TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THIS MORNING - AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR MENTIONED HE SUSPECTS THE THROTTLEBODY AS HE HAS HAD SOME OTHER 500'S IN FOR THE SAME THING. NO IDEA WHY, BUT THE COMPUTER DIDN'T HAVE A CODE FOR THE THROTTLEBODY PROBLEM LAST TIME - BUT IT DID THIS TIME, SO AS I WRITE THIS, THEY ARE PUTTING THE NEW ONE ON AND I'LL BE THERE IN AN HOUR TO PICK IT UP. *TR

THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STARTED LUNGING AND HESITATING IN ADDITION TO NOT ACCELERATING PROPERLY. THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION; THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN OUT OF TRAFFIC. A DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER PROVIDED TWO CODES - P2106 AND P061B. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THE CAR HAS LUNGED; IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR APPROXIMATELY 1.5 YEARS. IT HAS REPEATED THIS SEVERAL TIMES IN BOTH DRIVE AND REVERSE. IN MOST INSTANCES, THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS RUNNING AT THE SAME TIME; HOWEVER, THE CAR HAS LUNGED WHEN THE A/C WAS NOT ON. THE LUNGING OCCURS WHEN THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN OR SITTING IDLE (I.E., STOP LIGHTS, PREPARING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC). I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID ACCIDENTS BY KEEPING MY FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE AND BY CREATING A LARGE STOPPING DISTANCE CUSHION. WE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WERE TOLD THE ENTIRE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED REPLACED, AT A COST OF OVER $530.00. WE ARE NOW REVIEWING OUR OPTIONS. *TR

DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT POSTED SPEED LIMITS AND CAR SUDDENLY LURCHES THEN DROPS INTO FAILSAFE MODE (AS INDENTIFIED BY ALERT POSTED ON THE DASH). PULL OVER, READ OWNER'S MANUAL. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS HOW TO CLEAR FAILSAFE AND IMPLEMENT THEM. A FEW TIMES IT WORKED FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME. OTHER TIMES, IT WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL. TWICE THE CAR WAS RUNNING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AND SUDDENLY GO INTO FAILSAFE MODE THEN STALL OUT. ESPECIALLY DURING STREET/CITY DRIVING, CAR SUDDENLY KICKS FORWARD THEN FAILSAFE AND WILL SOMETIMES STALL OUT IN MIDDLE OF STREET. UNABLE TO RESTART. LAST TIME THIS OCCURRED CAR REQUIRED TOWING TO LOCAL FORD DEALER. INITIALLY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE SENOR FOR A COST OF $300. WHEN I OK'D THAT REPAIR, THE DEALERSHIP CALLED BACK LATER AND STATED IT WAS THE ENTIRE THROTTLE BODY AND REPAIR WOULD COME AT A COST OF $1000. THE CAR NOW SITS IN MY DRIVEWAY WHERE IT WAS TOWED TO AND SITS FOR SAFETY REASONS. AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, I HAVE COME TO FIND THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH FORD AND AN ANNOUNCED RECALL SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED IMMEDIATELY. *KB

THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION WAS IDLING IN PARK. VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE WITH THE FOOT ON THE BRAKE. ONCE FOOT WAS RELEASED FROM THE BRAKE THE CAR LUNGED BACKWARD, THE TACHOMETER READ ABOUT 3000 RPM, WITH NO PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. JUST AS QUICKLY PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE AND THE CAR ENTERED "ENGINE FAILSAFE MODE" AND SHUT DOWN. TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING WOULD CLEAR THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 MORE TIMES SINCE THE REPORTED INCIDENT DATE, ALL WITH THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES. THE VEHICLE HAD THE A/C ON AND WAS IDLING IN APPROXIMATELY 90 DEGREE FAHRENHEIT TEMPERATURES WITH +50% RELATIVE HUMIDITY. *KB
