2001 FORD FOCUS LEARCHES UNDER NORMAL DRIVING. ELECTRICLAL ISSUES LIGHTS DIMMING DACH LIGHTS SAME UNDER NORMAL DRIVING. 5 TRIPS TO THE DEALER NO IDENTIFIABLE CAUSE. REMEDY WAS TO REPLACE BATTERY CABLES @ 487.10 . *AK
THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH FAILED,CAUSING THE DOOR TO OPEN WITH OUT WARNING. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.
CONSUMER PLACED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND IT WAS LOCKED. IGNITION WOULD NOT ACCEPT THE KEY. SHE CALLED THE LOCK SMITH, AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE AT LEAST ONE OF THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM WITH THE FOCUS A WEEK. LOCK SMITH COULD NOT MAKE THE IGNITION ACCEPT THE KEY. HAD TOWED VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. *AK
AT A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE/ALIGNMENT I WAS INFORMED THAT MY FRONT BRAKES WERE 95% WORN AND THAT THEY AND THE ROTORS NEEDED REPLACING. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I WAS BEING HAD -- I'VE ONLY PUT 24,000 MILES ON MY CAR, ALL VERY GENTLE DRIVING. THEN I DISCOVERED THAT I'M ONE OF THE MORE FORTUNATE -- MANY FORD FOCUS OWNERS ARE REPLACING BRAKES AND ROTORS AT 15,000 MILES! THERE WASN'T AN ACCIDENT, BUT THERE CERTAINLY COULD HAVE BEEN A BRAKE FAILURE IF MY MECHANICS HAD NOT ALERTED ME TO THE PROBLEM. *AK
ON 2 SEPARATE OCCATIONS WITHIN 1 YEAR THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN. LOCKED UP. FORD REPLACED BOTH TIMES. *AK
STEERING WHEEL LOCK PROBLEM. I PARKED MY VEHICLE IN A PARKING SPACE AS NORMAL, PLACING IT INTO PARK, AND TURNING OFF ALL ELECTRICAL ITEMS. I THEN EXCITED THE VEHICLE. UPON RETURN, I SLID THE KEY INTO THE INGNITION, AND THEN IT HAPPENED. AT HAPPENED? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. THE WHEEL WAS TOTALLY STIFF, AND THE KEY WOULD NOT MOVE IN EITHER DIRECTION. I WAS STUCK IN THIS POSITION FOR AT LEAST 3 HOURS, TRY AFTER TRY, STILL NO MOVEMENT. THIS HAS CAUSED A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE TO ME, AND I NOW HAVE TO BRING THE CAR INTO A DEALSHIP TO HAVE THE PROBLEM, WHATEVER THAT MAY BE REPAIRED. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OF SOME SORT OR REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS PROCEDURE, FOR I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING TO THE SAME NATURE. 2001 FORD FOCUS SE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 72 MPH C ONSUMER LOST CONSCIOUSNESS AND VEHICLE TOOK A NOSE DIVE OFF THE INNER STATE, ROLLING OVER, AND LANDING ON ANOTHER ROAD UP SIDE DOWN. UPON IMPACT AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RETRACT. DRIVER SUSTAINED 11 STAPLES TO THE BACK OF HEAD, STITCHES AND CUTS TO THE LEFT EYE AND LEFT ARM AND OTHER UPPER, AND LOWER BODILY INJURIES. THE VEHICLE IS TOTALED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE MONTAUK HIGHWAY 27, I REACHED THE SPEED OF 50 MPH. APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES AFTER REACHING 50 AND PLACING MY CAR IN CRUISE CONTROL, THE CAR UNEXPECTEDLY BEGAN TO RAPIDLY ACCELERATE. I COULD NOT SLOW THE CAR DOWN, HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION KEY OFF AND STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY.*AK
THE 2001 FORD FOCUS HAD FIVE RECALL NOTICES. *BF THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE CONSUMER NEEDED A NEW FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE DISPLAYED A STRONG FUEL SMELL. THE FUEL CAP LIGHT HAD COME ON. THE REPLACEMENT FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE. REFER TO RECALL CAMPAIGN# 03V482000. *SC *JB
THE IGNITION LOCKED AND THE KEY BECAME STUCK, SOMETIMES THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OVER AT ALL.. THE TURN SIGNALS WILL NOT TURN OFF. *JB
2001 FORD FOCUS - PURCHASED 3/2001, HAS 31000 MILES ON IT. LOCK PIN FELL INTO IGNITION, KEY GOT STUCK IN IGNITION AND WOULD NOT TURN. ESTIMATED TO COST ME MINIMUM $290 - UP TO $500+. THE MECHANIC AT FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THAT 2000 & 2001 FOCUS CARS ARE BEING TOWED IN ALL THE TIME WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.*AK
THE FIRESTONE FIREHAWK GTA-02 ORIGINAL TIRES THAT CAME WITH MY 2001 FORD FOCUS ZX3 HAVE A DEFECT IN THE SIDEWALL. MULTIPLE LARGE BUBBLES AND SMALL SEPARATIONS IN THE RUBBER OF THE SIDEWALL ARE OBVIOUSLY APPARENT. THIS COULD RESULT IN A VIOLENT TIRE MALFUNCTION ESPECIALLY IF TRAVELING AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS. I CONTACTED A FIRESTONE DEALER AND WAS TOLD BECAUSE THERE IS NO TIRE RECALL AT THIS TIME, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR NEW TIRES FOR THE SAME TIRE MADE BY FIRESTONE WHICH WILL PROBABLY MALFUNCTION ALSO. THESE TIRES ARE DANGEROUS AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *LA
THE VEHICLE STALLED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. *JB THE SPEEDOMETER IN THE VEHICLE ALWAYS READS ZERO. THE MILAGE ERASE ON THEIR OWN AND POP UP AGAIN DAYS LATER THEN DISAPPEAR AGAIN. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT HE HAS TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND TURN IT ON AGAIN TO READ THE GAS GAUGE. AUTOMATIC LOCKS ENGAGE 20 MINUTES AFTER THE CONSUMER HAS STARTED DRIVING. THE VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL BECAME HARD TO MOVE AS THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER AND SHUT DOWN ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. *TC
VEHICLE WAS MAKING LOUD GRINDING SOUNDS WHEN BRAKE WAS ENGAGED, SO I TOOK IT TO DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED AND WAS TOLD THAT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE WORN AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. PARTS WERE NOT REPLACED BECAUSE, ACCORDING TO FORD, THIS IS NORMAL WEAR. AT 32,500 MILES, ROTOR DAMAGE IS NOT NORMAL WEAR, ESPECIALLY WHEN GRINDING SOUND BEGINS ONCE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED. *LA
AFTER OPENING THE RIGHT REAR DOOR AT A STORE I DROVE OUT OF THE PARKING LOT BEFORE THE DOOR CAME OPEN AND THE DOOR LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER PARKING AGAIN I WAS NOT ABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR, THE LATCH SEEMED TO BE STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. OPENING THE HANDLE, MOVING THE LATCH FORK BACK AND FORTH DID NOT ALLOW THE DOOR TO CLOSE. AFTER USING A SCREW DRIVER TO PRY THE LATCH STAMPING IT RETURNED AND LATCHED THE DOOR CLOSED. I HAVE NOT OPENED THE DOOR SINCE.*AK
TIME/PLACE: 11PM, FRIDAY JUL 16 2004, 25 MILES BEFORE MIDWAY SERVICE EXIT PA TURNPIKE EVENTS LEADING TO FAILURE: NONE FAILURE AND CONSEQUENCES: WITH NO PROVOCATION, DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG INFLATED. SEAT WAS TORN APART, PILLAR NEAR SEAT BELT WAS CRACKED, DRIVER WAS VIOLENTLY JOLTED FORCING CAR TO SWERVE SLIGHTLY. LUCKILY NO ACCIDENT, BUT DRIVER SPRAINED NECK. DEALERSHIP HAS AGREED TO REPLACE AIRBAG AND RESULTING DAMAGE B/C STILL UNDER WARRANTY. *JB
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2001 FORD FOCUS WAGON ON A NORMAL PAVED ROAD WHEN THE RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING SNAPPED IN HALF. THE CAR HAS 52000 MILES ON IT. I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED BECAUSE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED.*AK
OWNER SAYS THERE IS TO MUCH PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. DRIVER MUST TURN THE WHEEL SEVERAL INCHES BEFORE THE STEERING WHEEL WILL TURN THE TIRES IN THE DIRECTION. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *NM
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A ROUTINE GENERAL MAINTENANCE, AND MECHANIC DETERMINE THAT ENGINE WAS LEAKING OIL. SERVICE MANAGER INDICATED TO THE CONSUMER THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM FOR $100.00. BUT HE HAD TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT IF THE JOB WAS NOT SATISFACTORY DEALERSHIP WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE. THE SETTLEMENT HAD TO BE RESOLVED BY A LOCAL ARBITRATOR. VEHICLE WAS STILL LEAKING OIL.*AK
2001 FORD FOCUS REAR BRAKES SQUEALS LOUD NOISE. SOUND LIKES METAL TO METAL, I REPLACES BRAKES PAD HAD THE CREEP AND GROAN REMOVED, LUBE JOB AND ETC. FORD BRAKE SHOES COST OVER 130.00, NOT AFFORDABLE FOR CUSTOMERS. SQUEALING ABOUT TO DRIVE ME CRAZY. NEED A RECALL, MY FRIENDS OWN 2001 - 2003 FOCUS'S SAME PROBLEM. SOMETHING NEED TO BE DONE ABOUT THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE SQUEALING AND WEARINGR OF PADS AND ETC. FAST. *AK
I HAVE DRIVEN MY CAR FOR 3 YEARS AND ABOUT 45,000 MILES. I ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR AFTER HAVING NO ISSUES, AND THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION. AFTER REVIEWING PROBLEMS I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE FOCUS. *AK CURRENTLY THE CAR IS NOT CORRECTED. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE IGNITION CYLINDER WHICH WILL COST ME BETWEEN 285 AND 350 DOLLARS. THIS PART IS NOT ABLE TO BE REPLACED BY A UNSED PART.
STARTED CAR AND DROVE 1/4 MILE, SMELLED GAS, CONTINUED FOR ANOTHER 1/4 MILE AND NOTED GAS SMELL STRONGER. PULLED OVER AND NOTED WET TRAIL BEHIND VEHICLE AND GASOLINE POURING OUT UNDERNEATH VEHICLE. IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES, HALF A TANK OF GAS (ALMOST 10 GALLONS) WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE VEHICLE. GAS LEAKED ONLY WHEN IGNITION WAS ON. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. TOW TRUCK DRIVER COMMENTED THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME WITH THESE VEHICLES AND THAT IT WAS A SEAL ON TOP OF THE FUEL TANK THAT FAILED. DEALER COMMENTED MUCH THE SAME. HAD FUEL PUMP REPLACED BY DEALER AFTER PREMATURE FAILURE 8 MONTHS EARLIER.*AK

MY QUESTION REGARDS TO SEE IF THERE IS A RECALL ABOUT WATER IN THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR. BUT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. ITS JUST THAT WATER COMES INTO THE PASSENGER FLOOR WHEN IT RAINING. EXAMPLE= DRIVING FOR A WHILE WHEN IT IS RAINING THE FLOOR BECOMES WET. BUT AFTER IT DRIES OUT, THERE IS NO WATER. EVEN ON SUNNY DAYS. I HOPE WHAT I'VE TYPED MAKES SINCE. THE IGNITION ON MY 2001 FORD FOCUS "STUCK" ON ME THIS PAST JULY. I ENTERED MY VEHICLE AND INSERTED THE KEY. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN...IT REMAINED IN THE LOCKED POSITION. ON 7/3/04, I HAD TO HAVE THE IGNITION REPLACED ON MY 2001 FORD FOCUS. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THE FOCUS, HOWEVER THEY STILL CHARGED ME OVER $500 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAD TO HAVE MY IGNITION DRILLED OUT AND REPLACED. THEY SAID THAT EVEN THOUGHT THEY HAD HAD MANY VEHICLES RETURNED FOR THIS PROBLEM, THAT FORD HAD NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON IT. *AK
MY 2001 FORD FOCUS ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON A WEEK OR SO AGO, SO I TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE AND HAD THEM CHECK OUT MY COMPUTER, AND SEE WHY THE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CULPRIT WAS MY EGR VALVE. IT SAID THAT THE WAS LOW OR NO FLOW TO THE VALVE SO I CLEANED THE EGR VALVE PORTS AND REPLACED THE VALVE WITH A NEW ORIGINAL FORD EGR VALVE. THE LIGHT STAYED ON AND IT IS STILL ACTING UP. IT IS HESITATED WITH ACCELERATION, IT IS STALLING AND CUTTING OFF ON MY AT LOW SPEEDS, AND MY GAS MILEAGE HAS DROPPED BIG TIME! ALSO, MY LEFT-REAR TIRE HAD WARPED DRASTICALLY EVEN DESPITE ROTATING MY TIRE OFTEN, IT ALL WAYS SEEMS TO KEEP ON WARPING MY BACK LEFT TIRE. *AK
PROBLEMS WITH IGNITION BEING JAMMED ON 2002 FORD FOCUS. *MR THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WOULD NOT TURN AND WAS SEIZED. *SC *JB
THE CONSUMER STATED THE TWO BACK DOORS ON THE VEHICLE HAS A DEFECTIVE LOCK AND THE DOOR WILL NOT STAY LOCKED AND SHUT. THE OWNER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE IT WAS PAST THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN LOOKED AT EARLIER TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM. *JB THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE PASSENGER DOOR WAS THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM, THREE WEEKS LATER THE OTHER REAR DOOR LATCH/LOCK DISPLAYED THE SAME PROBLEM. *SC *JB
CONSUMER LOOKED AT THE INTERNET AND SAW THAT THERE WERE RECALLS ON THE FORD FOCUS IGNITION KEY SWITCH. HIS VEHICLE HAD ONE OF THOSE DEFECTIVE SWITCHES. THE SWITCH WOULD NOT ACCEPT THE KEY, SO HE HAD IT REPAIRED. DEALER CLAIMED HE HAD TO REASSEMBLE THE LOCK, AND THAT COST HIM $286.00. *AK
STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND KEY WOULD NOT TURN WHEEL START VEHICLE. HAPPENED 3 DIFFERENT TIMES CAR HAD TO BE TOWED INTO DEALERSHIP TWICE AND EACH INCIDENT WAS CLOSE TO A 300 DOLLAR BILL EACH INCIDENT. *JB
RECALL 03V482000 CONCERNING STALLING. VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A HESITATION/STALLING PROBLEM, AND LOSS OF POWER. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
ON 2 OCCASIONS MY CAR HAS FAILED TO START AND CUT OFF. LEADING UP TO THIS THE CAR WAS WORKING FINE AND JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN JUST STOPPED. THE 1ST TIME IT STARTED WITH THE HESITATION AND STUTTERING OF THE ENGINE. WHERE THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE GAS LINE WHICH THE DEALER FIXED. THE 2ND TIME IT JUST KEEP CUTTING OFF EVERYTIME I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD AND THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR BUT I HAVE A FEELING IT IS GOING TO DO IT AGAIN AND I WILL BE STRANDED BY THE ROAD AGAIN. EVERYTIME IT HAPPENS FORD CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR AREN'T LOOKING WELL ENOUGH. *LA
FORD FOCUS 2001 RECALL RECEIVED AFTER REPAIR OF FRONT COIL SPRING. *BF FORD ONLY REIMBURSED THE CONSUMER $150.00 OUT OF THE $470.00 THE CONSUMER PAID TO HAVE THE REPAIR WORK DONE. THE CONSUMER WANTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE STRUT AND THE DAMAGE RIM THAT THE COIL SPRING CAUSED. *JB
WHILE HAVING THE BRAKE PADS CHANGED SERVICE MAN NOTICED THAT THE LEFT FRONT STEERING KNUCKLES WORE OUT, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS RESULTED IN LOSS OF STEERING WHILE DRIVING. ALSO, FRONT END PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON THE NYS THRUWAY, FOR NO APPARENT REASON, THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNK FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. THERE WERE NO IMMEDIATE ILL EFFECTS BUT WITHIN A FEW DAYS I BEGAN TO NOTICE A SHIMMY. WITHIN A FEW WEEKS MY TIRES WERE SHOWING EXCESSIVE WEAR. MY MECHANIC FOUND THAT A FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE. BOTH FRONT SPRINGS HAD TO BE REPLACED, THE FRONT AND BACK HAD TO BE REALIGNED, AND I HAD TO ROTATE MY WORN TIRES ALL AS A RESULT OF THIS SPRING FAILURE. A FRIEND INFORMED ME THAT THIS MODEL AUTO HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM. UPON INVESTIGATION OF THE RECALL I FOUND THAT THE MODEL YEAR BEFORE HAD BEEN RECALLED BUT NOT MY MODEL YEAR. SAME PROBLEM. NO RECALL.*AK
THIS MORNING WHEN WE WERE STARTING OUR FORD FOCUS IT WOULD NOT ALLOW US TO TURN THE KEY.THE IGNITION WAS LOCKED UP.YOU CANNOT DO ANYTHING WHEN THAT HAPPENS.WE FOUND OUT THAT FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS INHERENT DEFECT IN THE IGNITION SYSTEM IN THE FOCUS BUT HAS NEVER RECALLED THEM FOR IT. ALL LOCKSMITHS AND OTHER MECHANICS CAN NO LONGER BUY IGNITION SWITCHES FROM FORD TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM AND FORD SERVICE CENTERS WANT AN ARM AND A LEG TO DO THE WORK FROM $169- JUST UNDE R$300 IF THEY HAVE TO DRILL IT OUT.THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS IF IT FAILS IN A BAD SPOT AND YOU GET STUCK.IT IS VERY UNSAFE FOR WOMEN WHO HAVE TO DRIVE ALONE SOMEWHERE OR SAY SOMEONE WITH SMALL CHILDREN WHO GETS STUCK ON THE HIGHWAY OR ANYWHERE ON EITHER A HOT DAY OR COLD DAY AS NOTHING WILL WORK.YOU NEED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED.WE WERE LUCKY IN THA TMY HUSBAND KEPT AT IT UNTIL IT DID WORK;BUT HAVE HEARD IT CAN HAPPEN ANYTIME,ANYWHERE AGAIN;AND THA TSOME PEOPLE WHO HAD THEIRS FIXED HAD IT HAPPEN MORE THAN ONCE.I HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND IF IT HAPPENED TO ME WHEN ALONE IT WOULD MAKE THAT SKYROCKET ,ENDANGERING MY HEALTH.FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THE DEFECT AND THEY ADMIT IT CAN HAPPEN IN ANY FOCUS.THEY WILL NOT RECALL IT UNLESS YOUR DEPT PUSHES THEM TO DO THIS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 50-55 MPH CONSUMER APPLIED FORCE TO BRAKES TO AVOID A COLLISION. DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKES LOCKED UP, CAUSING VEHICLE TO SWAY OFF THE ROAD INTO A DITCH, AND VEHICLE STRUCK A TREE HEAD ON. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *AK
CONSUMER'S VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECT AS MENTIONED IN NHTSA RECALLS 0V418000: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: STATION WAGONS AND 3-DOOR VEHICLES. THE SUBJECT VEHICLES HAVE A FOLDING 60/40 SECOND SEAT THAT BECOMES A LOAD FLOOR IN THE FOLDED POSITION. WHEN THE 60% PORTION OF THE SEAT IS FOLDED DOWN AND A LOAD IS APPLIED TO THE FRONT EDGE OF THE LOAD FLOOR, THE OUTBOARD HINGE PIVOT COULD DISENGAGE FROM THE HINGE. DEALER STATED SORRY THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK

CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT AN ONGOING HESITATION PROBLEM. VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
IGNITION KEY FAILS TO TURN ON MY FORD FOCUS. THE IGNITION HAS BEEN DRILLED OUT AND REPLACED 2 TIMES ALREADY FOR THIS PROBLEM, THIS IS THE 3RD TIME IT HAS HAOPPENED.*AK
NO CRASHES OR INJURIES, HOWEVER THER COULD HAVE BEEN SINCE THE CAR STALLED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IT. SOME MONTHS AGO THE "CHECK FUEL CAP" LIGHT APPEARED. THIS HAD NEVER BEEN A PROBLEM, AS I ALWAYS TURN THE CAP SEVERAL TIMES AFTER FUELING. I HAD A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE RESET THE LIGHT. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN SO I SWITCHED GAS CAPS WITH THE OTHER 2001 FOCUS I OWN. THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, FOLLOWED BY A "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT. WHEN I HAD THE AUTO PARST STORE CHECK IT BEFORE RESETTING THE LIGHTS THEIR READOUT STATED "LARGE VACUUM LEAK". SINCE THE CAR RAN OK AND THERE WAS NO NOTICEABLE DROP IN FUEL ECONOMY, I FELT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM, UNTIL MY WIFE DROVE IT AND CAME BACK VERY UPSET THAT IT HAD STALLED SEVERAL TIMES AND SHE HAD TO USE THE GAS AS WELL AS THE BRAKE TO GET HOME. UPON TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE FUEL FILLER NECK AND THAT THE PART AS WELL AS THE $30 FUEL CAP NEEDED REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $350. I EXPLAINED THE FILLER CAP SWITCH (THE OTHER FOCUS HAS NOT HAD THE PROBLEM SINCE IT WAS BUILT IN MICHIGAN AND NOT MEXICE) AND THEY ONLY REPLACED THE FUEL FILLER NECK TO THE TUNE OF $324.65 WHILE THIS VEHICLE HAS 60,000 MILES ON IT I DO NOT FEEL THAT THIS WAS A COST THAT I SHOULD HAVE ABSORBED. *AK
OCTOBER 14 2003, WITHOUT ANY WARNING THE KEY STOPPED TURNING, VEHICLE HAD 64 035 KM OR 4 035 KM OVER WARRANTY -IGNITION CYLINDER ASSEMBLY REPLACED (COST 554.41$ CDN) JUNE 12 2004, AGAIN WITHOUT ANY WARNING THE KEY STOPPED TURNING IN THE SWITCH. MY CAR HAS BEEN STALLING NOW FOR ABOUT A YEAR. I HAD IT FIXED AT AROUND 27,000 MILES AND I STILL HAD A FACTORY WARRANTY AND I WENT TO JOE MACHENS FORD IN COLUMBIA, MO (WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 10/01) AND THEY SAID IT WAS A WIRE ON THE TRANSMISSION THAT WAS CORRODED. ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO, THIS HAPPENED AGAIN AND AGAIN I TOOK IT TO JOE MACHENS AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I HAD ASKED THEM TO CHECK AGAIN BECAUSE THIS HAD HAPPENED ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND IT WAS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THEY REPLACED SOME SEALS. REPAIR WORK TOOK ABOUT A WEEK. ON JUNE 4, 2004, I WAS GOING DOWN I 270 IN ST. LOUIS, MO AND I WAS IN THE FAST LANE GOING 75MPH WHEN MY CAR STALLED. IT WOULD NOT GO AND I AM GLAD THAT I WAS GOING TO THE SPEED I WAS BECAUSE AS IT WAS DYING I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. JOE MACHENS AGAIN FIXED IT AND SAID THAT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. THEY REPLACED MY FUEL PUMP AND MY FUEL FILTER ON JUNE 8, 2004. ON MY WAY HOME FROM COLUMBIA, MO ON JUNE 11, 2004 IT STALLED AGAIN. AS OF NOW I HAVE NOT SENT IT ANY WHERE TO GET IT LOOKED AT BECAUSE THIS HAPPENED LAST NIGHT ON MY WAY HOME FROM COLLEGE. THIS WILL NOW BE THE FOURTH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH NO RESULTS.*AK
KEY WILL NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION, STEERING LOCKED. HIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. 1ST TIME JULY 2002 - MILES 14,500 - FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. IGNITION DRILLED, TUMBLER REPLACED, NEW KEYS 2ND TIME JUN 2004 - MILES 24,000 (9500 SINCE LAST TIME). NOT FIXED UNDER WARRANTY AS IT WAS OVER 1YR EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ONLY PUT 9500 ON THE PART FOR 2YEARS. IGNITION DRILLED, TUMBLER REPLACED, NEW KEYS - COST $300. *AK

POSSIBLE DEFECT WITH CLIP/CLAMP ON FUEL PUMP.*MR ON JAN 20, 2004 THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED PER RECALL, THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME WAS 18446. ON JUNE 7, 2004 THE CLAMP OR HOSE FROM THE FUEL PUMP DETACHED WHICH RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE NOT STARTING. THE CONSUMER ALSO SAW A SIZEABLE AMOUNT OF FUEL UNDER THE VEHICLE AFTER SHE ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, MILEAGE AT THAT TIME WAS 20640. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO EXPLAINED THAT THE CLAMP MUST HAVE BECAME LOOSE AFTER THE VEHICLE HIT A POTHOLE. *NM
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE. PROBLEMS INCLUDE DASH BOARD GAUGES AND LIGHTS 'RESETING' THEMSELVES AND LIGHTS FLICKERING ON AND OFF. VEHICLE NOW WILL NOT START, POWER TO THE ACCERSSORIES AND RADIO IS FINE, FUSES HAVE BEEN TESTED AND NONE ARE BLOWN. CAR EXPERIENCES SOME TYPE OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STUTER WHEN AN ATTEMPT TO START THE ENGINE IS MADE.
