IT FIRST STARTED WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND I STARTED TO FEEL MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKE. NOTHING MAJOR, I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. DAYS LATER, I HAD MY FRONT WINDOWS ROLLED DOWN WHEN I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY AND I COULD HEAR MY FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION CREAKING REALLY BAD. AND NOW EVEN WHEN THE CARS TURNED OFF AND NOT MOVING AT ALL ITS STILL MAKING A HIGH PITCHED SCREECHING NOISE COMING FROM THE SUSPENSION NOISE...NO CLUE HOW THAT'S EVEN POSSIBLE. I KNOW ITS NOT COMING FROM THE ENGINE CAUSE THE CARS TURNED COMPLETELY OFF, AND I'VE TESTED IT OUT WITH THE HOOD OPEN TO SEE IF I COULD POSSIBLY HEAR IT BETTER BUT IM STILL HEARING IT FROM THE FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION AREA. I'VE GOOGLED "FORD FOCUS SUSPENSION PROBLEMS" AND TONS OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THEIR SUSPENSION FROM FOCUSES FROM 2000-2011.I DID MORE READING AND PEOPLES CAMBER WILL START TO CHANGE TO THE POINT WHERE THEY'RE BUYING NEW TIRES EVERY YEAR...IM JUST SAYING I DON'T WANT A FRONT SUSPENSION PART TO BREAK APART DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN IM DRIVING 70 AND HAVE ME CRASH INTO A DITCH OR A TRUCK OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. DEFINITELY SOMETHING TO CHECK OUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR COULD NOT BE UNLOCKED USING THE REMOTE. THE DOOR COULD ONLY BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE OR INSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 53,000.
AFTER DRIVING ONLY A COUPLE MILES FROM MY PLACE OF DEPARTURE, SPEED 45 MPH, MY CAR SUDDENLY BEGAN TO DECELERATE (AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE "WRENCH" LIGHT, CAME ON. WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR NOTHING HAPPENED, MY CAR CONTINUED TO DECELERATE. I PULLED OVER TO THE FAR RIGHT LANE (NO SHOULDER), BRAKED AND THE CAR JERKED TO A STOP; I PUT MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON. I TRIED PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THEN BACK IN DRIVE, BUT THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED, THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON AND THE CAR RAN NORMALLY. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE SAME ROAD, AT ABOUT THE SAME PLACE (A COUPLE MILES FROM WORK) A MONTH LATER ON JANUARY 18, 2012. THEN IT HAPPENED A 3RD TIME FEBRUARY 13, 2012 ABOUT 3 MILES FROM HOME. EACH TIME IT HAPPENED THE SAME WAY--AFTER DRIVING ONLY A FEW MILES (5-10 MINUTES RUNNING TIME) THERE IS SUDDEN, UNCONTROLLABLE DECELERATION (WHEN I AM TRYING TO ACCELERATE BETWEEN 40-50 MPH), WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, NO RESPONSE TO PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL, I PULL OUT OF TRAFFIC JUST IN TIME WHILE CONTINUING TO DECELERATE (HAD ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN), BRAKE TO COMPLETE THE STOP, THE CAR SHUDDERS TO A HALT, I SHUT THE CAR OFF, RESTART AND THE CAR ACTS PERFECTLY NORMAL AGAIN. *TR
PROBLEM FAILURE OF FRONT AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. OUR 2009 FORD FOCUS WAS REAR ENDED WHILE STOPPED IN TRAFFIC BY A PT CRUISER TRAVELING APPROX. 35-40 MPH. THE IMPACT PUSHED THE FOCUS INTO THE AUTO IN FRONT SMASHING THE FOCUS FRONT END. THE FOCUS WAS LIKE AN ACCORDION SMASHED ON BOTH ENDS AND HAD TO BE PUT ON A TOW TRUCK FLATBED AS IT WAS NOT DRIVABLE. THE CONCERN HERE IS THE AIRBAGS IN THE FRONT DID NOT DEPLOY. THE FOCUS HAD 44,000 MILES AND WAS MAINTAINED BY A FORD DEALERSHIP IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA. FORD HAS NOT BEEN RESPONSIVE AS MY QUESTIONS ARE MET WITH REQUESTS FOR EXCESSIVE DOCUMENTATION. MY ONLY CONCERN IS WHY DID THE AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOY AND IS THIS UNIQUE TO THE FOCUS WE OWNED OR IS IT A BROADER PROBLEM WITH FORD FOCUS DESIGN. *TR
CAR PURCHASED NEW FROM OUT OF AREA DEALER IN DECEMBER 2008 - NO ACCIDENTS OR POTHOLE CONTACT. AT 10090 MILES, HAD RIGHT REAR TIRE BLOWOUT, TIRE WAS REPLACED. SIX MONTHS LATER, REPLACED BOTH REAR TIRES DUE TO UNEVEN WEAR, COMPETED ALIGNMENT AT QUALITY PROVIDER WITH NO PROBLEMS NOTED. DID NOT USE DEALER FOR THE ALIGNMENT BECAUSE OF LOCAL DEALER'S POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND INTEGRITY REPUTATION. DECEMBER 2010, NOTICED SAME PROBLEM - SEVERE DIAGONAL CUPPING OF REAR TIRES. THIS TIME WE TOOK TO DIFFERENT TIRE PLACE AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT DO 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT DUE TO A REAR SUSPENSION COMPONANT ISSUE. IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER WHERE PURCHASED, GOT EXCELLENT SERVICE HOWEVER, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT ALLIGN EITHER, PROBABLY BECAUSE WE RAN SOMETHING OVER, WHICH WE KNEW WE DID NOT. WE WERE NOT SATISFIED SO THEY KEPT THE CAR CLOSE TO A WEEK FOR TESTING, MEASURING, CALIBRATION ETC. THEY FINALLY SAID UPPER REAR CONTROL ARMS WERE WRONG SIZE (I THINK THEY SAID TOO SHORT), WHICH THEY REPLACED AT NO CHARGE FOR THE PARTS, AND SAID THEY WERE ABLE TO DO THE ALIGNMENT, WHICH COST $240. NOW SEPTEMBER 2011, 41000 MILES, AND AGAIN THERE IS SEVERE DIAGONAL CUPPING OF THE REAR TIRES, WHICH HAVE TO BE REPLACED. WE WILL TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER PURCHASED FROM AND UPDATE THIS COMPLAINT LATER. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FOCUS. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH KUMHO SOLUS KH16 TIRES, TIRE SIZE 205/50/16 (N/A). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE HAD SIGNIFICANT TREAD SEPARATION AND THE STEEL BELTS WERE VISIBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE CENTER WHERE THE DEFECTIVE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000. THE DOT NUMBERS WERE C0L7YP5M4508, C0L7YP5M4408, AND C0L7YP5M4008.
I WAS DRIVING MY FORD FOCUS ON THE HIGHWAY, RUNNING APPROX. 55 MPH. ALL AT ONCE A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON IN MY CAR, AND MY CAR DECELERATED TO APPROX. 10 MPH. I PULLED IT OFF OF THE ROAD SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT, AND THE CAR RAN FINE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. SINCE THEN IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES, WITHOUT WARNING. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY FORD DEALER SHORTLY AFTER THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, AND WAS TOLD THAT SINCE THE WRENCH LIGHT WASN'T ON THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. YESTERDAY, THE CAR DID IT AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. I TOOK IT TO ADVANCE TO HAVE THE CODE READ, AND WAS TOLD IT CODED OUT A (TAC) THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL FAILURE. I HAVE SEVERAL FRIENDS THAT ALSO DRIVE FOCUS' AND THEY ALL TELL ME THAT THEIRS IS DOING THE SAME THING. I WAS WONDERING IF YOU COULD GET FORD TO RECALL THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THEY ARE ALSO HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH THE MUSTANG, F-150, AND F-250 TO NAME A FEW. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT BOTH PASSENGER SIDE DOORS, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR, AND THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES MALFUNCTIONED. THE DOOR HANDLES COULD NOT BE USED TO OPEN THE DOORS. THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS WOULD NOT UNLOCK PROPERLY NOR WOULD THEY UNLOCK WHEN USING THE KEY FOB OR ATTEMPTING TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DOORS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ROD THAT WAS SECURING THE LOCKS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, BY PASSERS IN OTHER VEHICLES ALERTED THAT BOTH TAIL LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. IN ADDITION, THE PARKING LIGHT WAS INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FUSES EIGHT TIMES WITHIN THE PAST FIVE YEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN WHEN THE UNLOCK BUTTON WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD TO DEPRESS THE UNLOCK BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE DOORS WOULD UNLOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. NO FURTHER DETAILS WERE AVAILABLE ON THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,700.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THE DASHBOARD, RADIO, POWER WINDOW, AND THE BUTTON CONTROL LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE EXTREMELY BRIGHT AND SUDDENLY THEY BECAME DIM INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE LIGHTS WERE BRIGHT THEY WERE BLINDING AND COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE A CRASH TO OCCUR. THE DEFECT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
2009 FOCUS LEFT REAR TIRE HAS SEVERE CUPPING AFTER ONLY 26000 MILES. SUSPENSION DEFECT PER DISCOUNT TIRE MECHANICS. HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE TIRES BECAUSE THE FRONTS ALSO WORN DOWN TO THE STEEL PLIES. SBN: TB-21399, NHTSA ITEM NO. 10034585. BIG PROBLEM! *KB
2009 FORD FOCUS EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR. FRONT TIRES ARE COMPLETELY DOWN TO THE STEEL BELTS ON THE INSIDES ONLY AND THE REAR TIRES (DRIVER SIDE IN PARTICULAR) HAVE SEVERE CUPPING AND THIS IS ONLY AT 26000 MILES OF EASY DRIVING SINCE WE BOUGHT IT NEW. *KB
2009 FORD FOCUS SE. BOUGHT NEW JULY 2009. MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH POWER DOOR LOCKS NOT UNLOCKING FROM INSIDE/OUTSIDE W/KEY,REMOTE,HANDLES. WARRANTY WORK, 3 TIMES IN PAST ONE (1) YEAR ON DOOR LOCKS. LATEST 7/15/11. SAFETY CONCERNS OF BEING TRAPPED IN VEHICLE. CONSTANTLY BEING TOLD BY FORD TECHS. ROAD DUST CAUSING MALFUNCTION. HAVE OWNED AND DRIVEN MANY OTHER MAKES/MODELS OF FORD CARS/TRUCKS W/ POWER LOCKS ON GRAVEL ROADS WITHOUT PROBLEMS. ONLY THIS CAR HAS THIS PROBLEM. 1ST. FRONT PASSENGER DOOR HAD LOCK ASSEMBLY REPLACED.WOULDN'T UNLOCK INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. 2ND. LEFT BACK WOULDN'T UNLOCK INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. DOOR LOCK ADJUSTED BY FORD TECH. SO FAR BOTH WORKING OK. 3RD. TRAPPED OUTSIDE CAR. FINALLY UNLOCKED W/ REMOTE AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS. KEY IN OUTER LOCK WOULDN'T UNLOCK DOOR. NOW IT'S THE DRIVER DOOR THAT HAS TO HAVE THE LOCK ASSEMBLY REPLACED AND IS SCHEDULED TO HAVE THIS DONE.ALSO HAVE COMPLAINT OF ORIGINAL NEW TIRES (HANKOOK P195/60/R15) WEARING OUT AND HAD TO REPLACE AT 21,000 MILES ON 7/09/11. PS. TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR IS A USELESS DEVICE. *TT

VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED WITH 34,000 MI. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO LOCAL DEALER FOR RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE AT 41,050 MI. AND A COMPLAINT OF WHEEL VIBRATION. DEALER INSPECTED AND FOUND SEVERE CUPPING ON INSIDE OF LEFT REAR TIRE AND RECOMMENDED 2 NEW TIRES AND 4 POINT ALIGNMENT. WE HAD 2 REAR TIRES REPLACED AND 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT BY LOCAL TIRE DEALER. FRONT TOE-IN WAS CORRECTED. THE VIBRATION CONTINUED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. TWO FRONT TIRES WERE REPLACED ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER. WE NOW HAVE 4 NEW TIRES AND THE SAME VIBRATION. THE VIBRATION FEELS LIKE A TIRE IS OUT OF BALANCE. *TR
POWER DOOR LOCKS DO NOT UNLOCK AND STAY LOCKED NOT ABLE TO GET THEM TO WORK CORRECTLY. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE FACT THAT IF YOU NEEDED TO GET OUT OF THIS VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO. *TR
2009 FORD FOCUS ([XXX]) MY SON WAS JUST REAR ENDED, THE CAR WAS PUSHED 200+ FEET AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY! HE WAS SENT TO THE HOSPITAL WITH INJURIES. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TRAVEL MORE THAN 30 MPH. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL IN RESPONSE TO PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY COAST WHEN LIFTING OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE THROTTLE BODY REQUIRED REPLACEMENT WHICH WAS DONE UNDER THE WARRANTY.
WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON WHEN STARTING...AND WENT OFF..GRADUALLY CAME ON AND STAYED ON UNTIL I TURNED OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED...BOB RIDINGS FORD HERE IN DECATUR SAID THEY COULD NOT CHECK IT UNLESS THE WRENCH LIGHT STAYED ON...WHICH NEVER HAPPENED...GRADUALLY THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHEN CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN...AND STALLED DOWN AT A PLACE I COULD NOT GET OFF ROAD TO RESTART...LUCKILY NOT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. NEXT THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OFF AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON...BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO THE GARAGE TO BE CHECKED, ALL THE LIGHTS WENT OFF...SAID PALMER FROM PALMER TIRE AND AUTO CHECKED IT AND GOT ONE CODE WHICH HE TRIED TO GET FORD TO HELP HIM WITH..BEFORE HE COULD HEAR BACK (IF EVER HE WOULD HAVE) I TOOK IT TO BOB RIDINGS IN TAYLORVILLE (I HAD BAD EXPERIENCE WITH ONE IN DECATUR)AND THEY CALLED SAID TO GET HIS DIAGNOSIS..AND DISCUSSED THE FACT THAT BOTH HAD REPLACED THROTTLE CONTROL ON OTHER FOCUS CARS WHICH FORD MOTOR DID NOT RECOMMEND DOING! THIS COST ME $569.10 WHICH I BELIEVE WOULD HAVE BEEN UNDER WARRANTY IF IT HAD BEEN REPAIRED IN 2011; AND THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL AS IT IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION WHEN DRIVING IN TRAFFIC., I THINK FORD OWES ME...AND PROBABLY OTHERS...AND IS A PROBLEM WARRANTING A RECALL! I GUESSED AT MILEAGE AND TIME BUT KNOW THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED THE YEAR AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR AND IT ONLY HAD 9000 MILES ON IT WHEN I PURCHASED IT...MAKING IT HAVE AROUND 15,000 WHEN PROBLEM BEGAN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 50 TO 60 MPH THE TRANSMISSION INDEPENDENTLY SHIFTED AND THE VEHICLE RESPONDED AS IF IT WAS STALLING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE CAR LOST POWER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER REPLACE A PART ON THE MOTOR. I DO NOT THINK THAT FORD HAS ANY IDEA WHY THIS HAPPENS. MY WIFE DRIVES MOSTLY ON 4 LANE ROADS,AT HIGH SPEEDS,AND SENSE THIS IS NOT A ONE TIME PROBLEM, THEN FORD SHOULD TAKE THESE CARS OFF THE ROAD BEFORE SOME ONE GETS KILL,OR IS THAT WHAT IT TAKES FOR THE SOMETHING TO BE DONE, AND DONE RIGHT AND NOT I THINK IT MIGHT BE THIS PART OR THAT. I DID NOT SEE ANY WHERE FORD HAS FIXED THIS PROBLEM, SO THEY SHOULD REMOVE SAID CARS FROM THE HIGHWAY. THE TWO TIMES THIS HAPPEN TO MY WIFE IT WAS LIGHT TRAFFIC AND SHE COULD PULL OFF THE ROAD, WE PURCHASE THIS CAR BECAUSE OF THE LONG DRIVE AND THE FUEL MILEAGE. IF THIS HAPPENS IN TRAFFIC WILL YOU KNOW WHAT THE OUT COME CAN BE, AT THE SPEED THEY DRIVE . HEAVEN HELP US IF SOMETHING IS NOT DONE!

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS HOWEVER THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. EACH TIME THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,074 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,600.
MY 2009 FORD FOCUS HAS HAD OBVIOUS SUSPENSION ISSUES SINCE 6000 MILES. REAR TIRES ALWAYS SLIP IN WET CONDITIONS FROM A STOPPED POSITION DURING A NORMAL INITIAL ACCELERATION. FURTHERMORE AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN (>) 60 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES AND THE CAR SHAKES. I AM A FAIRLY GOOD DRIVER AND IN COUNTLESS "NORMAL" DRIVING CONDITIONS MY CAR HAS GOTTEN INTO AN "OUT OF CONTROL STATE" LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO RECOVER. I HAD TAKEN THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO BE TOLD THE TIRES WERE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I REPLACED TIRES, HAD AN ALIGNMENT PERFORMED AND AGAIN IN SHORT ORDER (LESS THAN 6000 MILES DRIVEN) THE ISSUES CAME UP AGAIN. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE. FIRST OF ALL THE NEED TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT YOUR BACK TIRES AND REAR OF VEHICLE SLIDING/SHIFTING SIDE TO SIDE IS ESSENTIAL. FURTHERMORE, A CAR SHOULD NOT VIBRATE AND RATTLE VIOLENTLY AT SPEEDS OF ONLY 55 MPH. I FEAR THAT IF I CONTINUE DRIVING THIS CAR IN IT'S CURRENT STATE, I RUN THE RISK OF GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING MY 2009 FORD FOCUS ON A TRIP THE CAR LOST POWER AND COASTED TO A STOP. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE THE CAR. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. WE SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. IT WORKED FINE. ON THE RETURN TRIP HOME THE CAR DID THE SAME THING. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, PHIL LONG FORD IN COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. IT'S STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY REFUSE TO REPAIR THE CAR OR LOOK FURTHER AS THEY TOLD ME THEY ARE LOSING MONEY TO DO SO. THE MECHANIC DOESN'T GET PAID NOR THE DEALERSHIP, IT'S A LOSE-LOSE FOR US - "THEY AREN'T PART OF FORD" WAS ALSO IN THEIR RESPONSE. SORRY, BUT YOU'RE OUT OF LUCK. SIX MONTHS LATER, REPLACED BOTH REAR TIRES DUE TO UNEVEN WEAR, COMPETED ALIGNMENT AT QUALITY PROVIDER WITH NO PROBLEMS NOTED. DID NOT USE DEALER FOR THE ALIGNMENT BECAUSE OF LOCAL ( DEALER'S POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND INTEGRITY REPUTATION. DECEMBER 2010, NOTICED SAME PROBLEM - SEVERE DIAGONAL CUPPING OF REAR TIRES. THIS TIME WE TOOK TO DIFFERENT TIRE PLACE AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT DO 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT DUE TO A REAR SUSPENSION COMPONANT ISSUE. IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER WHERE PURCHASED, GOT EXCELLENT SERVICE HOWEVER, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT ALLIGN EITHER, PROBABLY BECAUSE WE RAN SOMETHING OVER, WHICH WE KNEW WE DID NOT. WE WERE NOT SATISFIED SO THEY KEPT THE CAR CLOSE TO A WEEK FOR TESTING, MEASURING, CALIBRATION ETC. THEY FINALLY SAID UPPER REAR CONTROL ARMS WERE WRONG SIZE (I THINK THEY SAID TOO SHORT), WHICH THEY REPLACED AT NO CHARGE FOR THE PARTS, AND SAID THEY WERE ABLE TO DO THE ALIGNMENT, WHICH COST $240. NOW SEPTEMBER 2011, 41000 MILES, AND AGAIN THERE IS SEVERE DIAGONAL CUPPING OF THE REAR TIRES, WHICH HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN 2010, AT THE TIME THE VEHICLE HAD 37,000 MILES. A LESS THAN A MONTH LATER THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. A FEW DAYS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM I TOOK IT BACK TO FORD AND THEY FOUND THAT THERE WERE METAL SHAVINGS IN THE TRANSMISSION. YESTERDAY MY WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND MY TRANSMISSION IS DOING THE SAME THING IT DID THE FIRST TWO TIMES. SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE A LITTLE OVER 5 YEARS AGO I HAVE PUT LESS 35,000 MILES ON THIS CAR. IT SHOULD NOT BE HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, SOME FORD VEHICLE MAY EXHIBIT A TICKING/PINGING NOISE FROM THE HOT EXHAUST AFTER THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF AND THE EXHAUST COOLS DOWN, WHICH IS DUE TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM EXPANDING AND CONTRACTING DURING HEATING AND COOLING CYCLES. I CALLED FORD AGAIN AND THEY SAID THEY WANTED TO TAKE THE CAR TO THERE BODY SHOP TO HAVE THE FRAME CHECKED. SO, WHEN THAT WAS FINALLY DONE I ASK THE GUY WHAT IS THE VERDICT? HE TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE FRAME ON THE CAR AND IT WAS MECHANICALLY SOUND. I ASKED HIM "SO WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT THE TIRE WEAR?" I RECENTLY HAD FOUR (4) NEW TIRES INSTALLED ON MY 2009 FORD FOCUS. IN THE PROCESS, ONE OR MORE TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS WERE DAMAGED. THE TIRE STORE HAS 'WELDED' THE BROKEN ITEM BACK INTO PLACE, A TEMPORARY FIX AT BEST. THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS ARE APPARENTLY FRAGILE AND VULNERABLE TO THE TYPES OF STRESS PUT ON THE AUTO WHEELS DURING TIRE CHANGES. I ASSUME THAT THE "FIX" MAY FAIL AT ANY TIME, AND ALSO THAT DURING FUTURE TIRE REPLACEMENTS, OTHER SENSORS WILL BE DAMAGED. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH, WHEN THE CAR LOST POWER. STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL HAD NO RESPONSE. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND COASTED OUT OF TRAFFIC AND ONTO THE SHOULDER. I WAS TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE 15 GOING NORTH UP THE HILL FROM BAKER, CA WHEN THIS HAPPENED. TRYING TO DODGE THE OTHER MOTORISTS AND THE BIG RIGS TO EVEN GET TO THE SHOULDER WAS VERY SCARY. YOU CAN GET AN ALIGNMENT EVERY MONTH AND IT WILL NOT FIX THE DEFECT. I HAVE 24,000 MILES ON MY FOCUS AND I HAVE MY THIRD SET OF TIRES ON IT. I'VE DID THE RESEARCH. AN ALIGNMENT SHOP HERE IN WARRENSBURG MO FOUND THE PROBLEM AND FIXES AROUND 4-5 FORD FOCUS A MONTH. THEY PUT IN A KIT THAT BRINGS THE CAMBER WITHIN A FRACTION OF A INCH WHICH WILL GIVE YOU ABOUT 3 TIMES THE LIFE SPAN OF THE TIRES. THE DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO ZERO THE CAMBER. IF YOU DON'T GET THIS DONE, YOU WILL BE BUYING TIRES LIKE I DID EVERY YEAR. SO I CALLED THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY ARE TAKING CARE OF IT ALL EXCEPT $50. BUT THE MORE RESEARCH ONLINE I'M FINDING OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON THING. PEOPLE ARE JUST DRIVING WITH ALONE THE HIGHWAY AND IT EXPLODES. LONG STORY SHORT WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE TIRES 3 TIMES NOW , AND WE HAVE THEM ROTATED EVERY 3000 MILES. AS FOR THE DOORS THE BACK DOORS WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL, HAVE NOT FIXED THEM . WE HAVE FIXED THE DRIVERS DOOR AGAIN AND ALSO THE PASSENGER DOOR TWICE ALSO. WE PURCHASED THE CAR FOR THE GAS MILEAGE. AND YES ALL CARS HAVE THEIR PROBLEMS BUT NOT LIKE THIS . SHE NOW HAS TROUBLE THE SUSPENSION, THE IGNITION SWITCH IS GOING OUT AND WHEN THE CAR WAS PAINTED , THE TRUNK WAS NOT PRIMED SO THE PAINT IS ALL PEELING OFF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,892.
I HAVE CHANGED TIRES ON THIS CAR 3 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT IT APRIL 5, 2010. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN TO OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THE LAST TIME I PUT TIRES ON THE CAR THAT THE FOCUS CARS HAVE THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. I ASKED HOW THEY COULD FIX IT AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REMOVE THE REAR CONTROL ARMS AND REPLACE THEM, BECAUSE THEY CAN'T ADJUST THE ARMS TO ALIGN THE CAR PROPERLY AND IT WOULD CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM IF WE DON'T CHANGE THE CONTROL ARMS ON THE CAR, THE COST OF REPAIR QUOTED WAS $600.00. AFTER PUTTING $600.00 WORTH OF TIRES ON I COULDN'T AFFORD TO HAVE THE CONTROL ARMS CHANGED. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A MANUFACTURES PROBLEM. *TR
I DRIVE A 2009 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY I WILL HAVE THE WRENCH LIGHT COME ON. I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY FIND NOTHING WRONG. WHEN THE LIGHT COMES ON THE CAR LOSES POWER. I TURN THE CAR OFF, WAIT ABOUT A MINUTE AND TURN THE CAR BACK ON. AT THAT TIME THE FAULT CLEARS AND THE CAR DRIVES LIKE NORMAL. THIS TYPICALLY HAPPENS WHEN I'VE DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 25 TO 40 MILES. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES PER DAY, AND WITH THE CAR BEING OUT OF WARRANTY DUE TO MILES, BUT UNDER AND EXTENDED WARRANTY I'M HAVING TO PAY TO FIND NOTHING WRONG. I KNOW THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR THOUGH. IT LOOKS LIKE OTHERS MAY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS WELL. *TR
DOOR LOCKS RANDOMLY MALFUNCTION. THE KEY TO THE DRIVER DOOR WILL NOT TURN. FRONT DOORS CAN ONLY BE UNLOCKED BY THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE. THE REAR DOORS CANNOT BE MANUALLY UNLOCKED. REAR DOORS ARE UNLOCKED BY PRESSING DOWN ON THE LOCK PEG AND USING THE INSIDE LOCK SWITCH ON THE FRONT DOOR TO FIRST LOCK AND THEN UNLOCK, LET OFF THE LOCK PEG AND TOGGLE THE SWITCH AGAIN. DISCOVERED THIS TRICK AFTER MANY WASTED TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP. ONE REAR DOOR LATCH WAS REPLACED BUT, THE PROBLEM CONTINUES WITH IT. AFTER THE WARRANTY RAN OUT (36K), I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT BUT, IT IS NOT A RECALL ITEM AND IT WOULD COST ABOUT $200/DOOR TO FIX. THIS IS CAN BE A SERIOUS MATTER IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR. *TR
APPROACHING A STOP SIGN I APPLIED THE BRAKES, DID NOT COME TO A STOP, AS THE MOTOR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE(MOTOR REVVED UP BEYOND 1500 RPM. GOT THE AR UNDER CONTROL, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. RESTARTED THE CAR 4 TIMES AND EACH TIME THE MOTOR WAS RACING. IF I HAD NOT HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE I WOULD HAVE CONTINUED MOVING FORWARD.I DID NOT TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE TO SEE HOW FAST THE CAR WOULD HAVE GONE AS TRAFFIC WAS TOO CONGESTED. DID NOT WISH TO TAKE A CHANCE AND DRIVE THE CAR . I CALLED FOR AN EMERGENCY TOW AND HAD THE CAR DELIVERED TO MY FORD DEALER WHERE IT IS BEING LOOKED OVER. A SIMILAR SITUATION OCCURRED ON 4/16/2009 THE DEALER AT THAT TIME COULD NOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. (ODI # 10328218). *TR
APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AT ABOUT 30MPH I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE ENGINE REVVED TO A HIGHER SPEED AND I COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE UNTIL I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND STOOD ON THE BRAKES. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME AS I WENT ABOUT 6 FEET INTO THE INTERSECTION HAVE HAD THE CAR SINCE 07/2009. THIS IS FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. INFORMED DEALER AND CAR WILL BE LOOKED AT 04/22/2010. *TR
PRE MATURE TIRE WEAR, RIGHT REAR TIRE WORE OUT AT 25,000 MI. WORE OUT IN 3 AREAS DIAGONALLY ACROSS TIRE FACE. EXCESSIVE VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. TIRES HAVE BEEN BALANCED 3 DIFFERENT TIMES. NEW TIRES REBALANCED TWICE. 45,000 MI. ON VEHICLE NOW. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FOCUS. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE WHEN THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT BOTH TIRES ON THE DRIVER' SIDE WERE WEARING DUE TO AN UNKNOWN SUSPENSION PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HER SHE WOULD NEED FOUR NEW TIRES, STRUTS, AND OTHER UNKNOWN REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,638 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,000.
CAR FREQUENTLY REVS ENGINE HIGH WHEN COMING TO A STOP, WHEN AT IDLE THE ENGINE REVS FROM 400-1100RPMS UNCONTROLLABLY. HAS OCCASIONALLY DROPPED ALL POWER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. FORD DEALER SAID THE PCM IS BAD AND THAT THERE'S A SERVICE BULLETIN ON IT. HOWEVER, THE DEALER SAYS FORD MOTOR WILL NOT RELEASE A REPLACEMENT PART. I'VE LOUDLY COMPLAINED THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
