I STARTED GETTING THIS ON SCREEN ERROR "STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTION" A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, BUT IT WOULD DISAPPEAR AFTER A FEW MINUTES. TODAY WHEN I WENT TO START THE CAR THE MESSAGE APPEARED ONLY THIS TIME IT STAYED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND STILL HAD THE ISSUE. I HAD TO DRIVE MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL WITH NO POWER STEERING. I'M FILING THE COMPLAINT BECAUSE AFTER SEARCHING THE ENTIRE DAY IT TURNS OUT THIS IS A PRETTY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 2012 FORD FOCUS. SOME DEALERS LIE AND SAY THEY HAVE "NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE." THEY CHARGE ON AVERAGE $1700 TO REPAIR IT. THEY RECALLED SEVERAL OTHER FORD MODELS FROM 2012, BUT NOT THIS ONE. THEY SHOULD HAVE. HAD I ALREADY BEEN DRIVING WITH MY CHILDREN WHEN THIS WENT OUT I WOULD HAVE WRECKED. HAD I NOT DRIVEN AN OLDER CAR THAT DOESN'T HAVE POWER STEERING I PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE KNOWN WHAT TO DO OR HOW TO REACT. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE AND FORD NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
CONNECTOR FOR AIRBAGS KEEP COMING UNDONE. WE TOOK IN AFTER SEEING NOTIFICATION ON DASH SHOWING AIRBAG ISSUE. PAID 170 FOR THEM TO PUT A NEW CONNECTOR IN. LESS THAN A YEAR LATER IT IS LOOSE AGAIN. WE CANNOT KEEP PAYING $170 FOR THEM TO FIX THIS. THE SWITCH JUST HANGS UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND WE HAVE MADE A POINT OF NOT PUTTING ANYTHING UNDER THERE IN CASE THIS WAS THE PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. AFTER FIVE MINUTES, THE VEHICLE BECAME OPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLUTCH POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE WORKLOAD OF THE DEALER. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V643000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES); HOWEVER, THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 46,000.
ELECTRONIC RACK AND PINION FAILURE AFTER 91,000 MILES. MAKING STEERING NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE AND NEARLY CAUSING ACCIDENT. WHY WAS THIS NOT INCLUDED IN THE OTHER ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING RECALLS FROM FORD? EVERYTHING I HAVE SEEN IS THE RACK IS BEING EXPOSED TO TOO MUCH HEAT AND FAILING PREMATURELY
MY CAR HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL FROM THE COMPANY. THEY HAVE 3 RECALLS ON THE TRANSMISSION: TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMMING FOR OVERT TCM FAILURE WARNING TRANSMISSION CLUTCH SHUDDER / TRANSMISSION INPUT SHAFT SEAL WARRANTY EXTENSION TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE I CALLED THEM TWICE AND THEY CHECKED MY VIN NUMBER AND THEY FOUND ME ELIGIBLE TO GET MY CAR FIXED AT ONE OF THEIR DEALERS. I TOOK MY CAR THERE AND THE DEALER REFUSED TO FIX MY CAR BECAUSE MY CAR HAS A BRANDED(SALVAGE) TITLE. NOW, IF YOU CAN'T BUILD A CAR RIGHT, LEAVE THIS BUSINESS TO SOMEBODY ELSE.WHEN YOU HAVE ALL THESE FAILURES IN THE TRANSMISSION, THIS TELLS ME THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION IS JUST A SCAM AND IT SHOULDN'T BE THERE.IF A CAR GOT A HIT IN THE TRUNK FAR AWAY FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND DIDN'T EVEN TOUCH IT, WHAT THIS HAS TO DO WITH YOUR MISTAKE. WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR YOUR MISTAKE?DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT THIS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM DOES TO THE CAR?HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED,I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON THE FREEWAY ALMOST 70 MILES/HOUR WITH MY FAMILY AND SUDDENLY MY CAR WAS NOT GOING FORWARD AND ALTHOUGH PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL,THE CAR WAS NOT SPEEDING. DO YOU REALIZE THAT ANY CAR FROM BEHIND COULD JUST HIT ME FROM THE BACK BECAUSE I DIDN'T HIT THE BRAKES AND NO BRAKES LIGHTS WERE ON NOR ANY WARNING THAT I WAS SLOWING DOWN.DO YOU KNOW HOW I WAS TERRIFIED TO GO FROM MY LANE TO THE SHOULDER WHILE LOSING SPEED AND ANY TRUCK OR CAR CAN HIT ME AND KILL ME WITH MY FAMILY.NO,YOU DON'T KNOW BECAUSE YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES. IF YOU CARE YOU WON'T LET THESE CARS RUN ON THE ROADS. 3 FAILURES IN THE TRANSMISSION, 2 OF THEM WILL COVER MY SALVAGE TITLE AND 1 WON'T COVER IT, WHY?? THE WAY I SEE IT IS YOU MESSED UP IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THEY ARE ALL CONNECTED WITH EACH OTHER, WHY DO YOU COVER 2 FAULTS AND NOT THE 3RD ONE? *TR
TRANSMISSION - TRANSMISSION ON LATE MODEL FORD FOCUS IS DANGEROUS. CAR SHAKES, SHUTTERS AND TRANSMISSION WILL NOT GO IN GEAR AT TIME WHEN IN TRAFFIC. CLEAR SAFETY HAZARD THAT VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS WHEN OPERATING AND CONCERNING WHEN CAR HAS MOVEMENT ISSUES IN INTERSECTIONS AND AT STOP LIGHTS. CAR HAS BEEN TO SERVICE CENTER OVER A DOZEN TIMES FOR TRANSMISSION REPROGRAMMING OVER PAST 4 YEARS, CAR HAS RECEIVED THREE CLUTCHES AND NOW OTHER MAJOR COMPONENTS ARE FAILING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION. CAR RECENTLY BROKE DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND STARTED MISSING GEARS, LURCHING AND SHAKING ON A ROAD AT 50 MPH. HAD TO PULL OVER. WAS ABLE TO TRAVEL 1 MILE TO GET HOME BUT CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP AND JERKED UNCONTROLLABLY. CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE AND HAD TO PUSH OUT OF ROAD UPON ARRIVING HOME. *TR
AT 49000 MILES GOT " SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW " LIGHT AND STEERING WAS LOCKED UP AT START OF CAR. HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN 8 DAYS AT START UP OF CAR. RESTARTING FIXES STEERING BUT AFRAID PROBLEM WILL ESCALATE AND CAUSE ACCIDENT OR WORSE...PLEASE INVESTIGATE BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT OR KILLED FROM LOSS OF CONTROL OF STEERING.
DRIVING AT NIGHT ON COUNTY ROAD APPROX 25-30 MPH DRY PAVEMENT WENT TO TURN THE WHEEL OF THE CAR TO FOLLOW THE ROAD AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE STEERING WHEEL OR THE BRAKES. CAR WENT OFF THE ROAD HEADED FOR A TREE. WENT INTO DITCH BEFORE STEERING BECAME AVAILABLE AGAIN. IN INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE ON MY OWN PRIOR TO TAKING TO DEALER. I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE AN ISSUE AND EVEN A NOTED INVESTIGATION LISTED OR AWARENESS OF THE HIGHWAY SAFETY ADMINISTRATION. I CAN TELL YOU THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY ZERO CONTROL OF THIS CAR AT THAT TIME. THESE CARS ARE VERY DANGEROUS ON MANY LEVELS AS THEY HAVE MULTIPLE DEFECTIVE PARTS. JUST CALL JIM O'NEAL IN SELLERSBURG INDIANA AS THEY HAVE ALL THE RECORDS OF SHOWING THEY HAVE ALMOST REBUILT MY ENTIRE CAR SINCE I BOUGHT NEW IN 2012. UPON BEING EVALUATED AND DRIVEN, WITH THIS OCCURRING TO THE TECHNICIAN AS WELL AT JIM O'NEAL FORD, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE ENTIRE STEERING COMPONENT HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS CONCERN AS THERE HAVE BEEN 2 BULLETINS SENT TO THEIR DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENTS. DOCUMENTED IN RESEARCH IF YOU LOOK AND ALSO TOLD TO ME VERBALLY BY [XXX] THE SERVICE MANAGER AT JIM O'NEAL FORD. AT NO TIME IN THE MANY VISITS TO THE REPAIR SHOP AT FORD HAS ANYONE MENTIONED THE FACT THAT THIS COULD POSSIBLY OCCUR OR HAS THERE BEEN ANY PREVENTIVE CHECKS OF THE SYSTEM. I REALLY WOULD LIKE THIS INVESTIGATED AS I DO SEE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS HAD THIS ISSUE AND WAS JUST LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE NOT HAD A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR DURING THIS LATEST FAILURE IN THIS CAR. FORD SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR PRODUCING AND NOT UPHOLDING THEIR END OF THIS CAR AS PEOPLE ARE BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED. POWER STEERING COMPLETELY WENT OUT. ERROR NOTIFICATION ON DASH SAYS "STEERING ASSIST FAULT." THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM FOR THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS THAT WAS FIXED MY TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT. BUT IT HAS COMPLETELY GONE OFF AND IT WILL NOT RESET WITH TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON. REPLACED 80AMP MEGAFUSE THAT OTHERS ONLINE SAID MAY BE THE ISSUE, THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. MY ONLY OTHER IDEA IS THAT IT IS THE POWER STEERING RACK THAT EVERYONE ELSE ONLINE HAS NEEDED REPLACED.
'MY TWO SONS WERE DRIVING EAST ON I-10, NEAR SCHULENBURG, TX, AT THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 75 MPH, WHEN THE VEHICLE ENGINE AND RELATED COMPONENTS SHUTDOWN (NO POWER STEERING, NO ENGINE, NO NOTHING), WITHOUT ANY PRIOR NOTICE. IT IS BY THE GRACE OF GOD THAT THEY WERE NOT INJURED OR KILLED BY THE 18 WHEELER TRUCK BEHIND THEM WHEN THE VEHICLE ENGINE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, TOMMIE VAUGHN FORD, WHO DIAGNOSE THE CULPRIT PART TO BE A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. FORD HAS ISSUED A FIELD SERVICE ACTION (NUMBER 14M02) REGARDING SAID PART. HOWEVER, FORD NEEDS TO RECALL ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES FOR THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WHEN DRIVING. NO POWER STEERING AT ALL. DIFFICULT TO DRIVE THE CAR.
RECALL OF PCM/TMC RECALL 15B22 - I DO NOT UNDERSTAND IF A PART IS ON A RECALL TO BE REPLACED WHY IS A MILEAGE RESTRICTION PLACED ON THE VEHICLE? I TOOK MY CAR TO DEALERSHIP FOR A FAILED RECALLED PART AND I HAD TO PAY FOR THE PART AND THE INSTALLATION!! I COMMUTE OVER A HUNDRED MILES ROUND TRIP EACH DAY TO WORK BY JULY 2016 I HAD ALREADY REACHED THE 150,000 MILE MARK. MY FAMILY HAS BEEN A FORD OWNER'S FOR OVER 35 YEARS. WE OWN 3 FORD VEHICLES TODAY. RANDOMLY, WHEN STARTING THE CAR, I RECEIVE A STEERING ASSIST FAULT ERROR CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO FREEZE. THE ONLY REMEDY IS TO TURN THE CAR OFF, WAIT A FEW MINUTES, AND RESTART. THE ERROR SHOULD GO AWAY AND THE STEERING WHEEL CAN EASILY MOVE.
I WAS TURNING INTO MY APT COMPLEX POWE STERLING WENT OUT LIGHT SAID MALFUNCTIONS POWE STEERING. I WAS TRYING TO CONTROL HIT A POLE. SEAT BELT TIGHTEN AROUND MY NECK. I HAD JUST HAD A PROCEDURE DID TWO WEEKS PRYOR INJECTION IN MY NECK WENT TO DOCTOR HE TOLD ME I WAS SO INFORMED HE COULD NOT TELL GAVE ME FIVE DIFFERENT MESS I GO C HIM ON 8TH DEC SHOULD BEEN BACK SOONER I HAVE NO CAR IN SHOP NO MONEY GET IT OUT.
VERY ROUGH IDLING OF ENGINE WHILE PROCEEDING FORWARD AT START OF ACCELERATION. THE "HILL ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE" LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENTATION PANEL CAME ON, WHILE THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO TRANSFER ITSELF FROM A DRIVE POSITION TO A NEUTRAL POSITION. THE CAR REMAINED STATIONARY WHILE I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE USING THE FOOT PEDAL. AT THAT POINT, I COULD NOT GET THE CAR BACK INTO A DRIVE GEAR POSITION. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING "HILL ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE" MESSAGE, A SECOND WARNING LIGHT "TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION, SERVICE NOW" CAME ON. DURING THIS MOMENT, AN ADDITIONAL RED EXCLAMATION LIGHT ENGAGED. WHEN I STOPPED AT A RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL, MY FOCUS'S RPM IDLE QUICKLY INCREASED CAUSING THE FOCUS TO LUNGE FORWARD A FEW FEET INTO AN ACTIVE TRAFFIC INTERSECTION. AS I PROCEEDED TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN, THE INSTRUMENTATION PANEL DISPLAYED NO WARNING SIGNS, THEN SUDDENLY CAME BACK ON AS THE RPM IDLE WENT FROM 2,200 TO 5,500 RPM IN A NEUTRAL GEAR STATE. AT THIS MOMENT, I WAS NERVOUS, AS MY MIND WAS RACING WITH THOUGHTS OF AN ACCIDENT; SUCH AS, THE TRANSMISSION COULD RE-ENGAGE TO A DRIVE POSITION AT SUCH A HIGH RPM RATE, FORCING VEHICLE TO THRUST FORWARD AT AN UNCONTROLLABLE HIGH SPEED, OR THE ENGINE COULD PERHAPS OVERHEAT AND/OR THE ENGINE BLOCK COULD CRACK. THE WARNING PANEL SPORADICALLY TURNED WARNING MESSAGES ON AND OFF AS IT AFFECTED THE POWERTRAIN/TRANSMISSION CONTROL. THE WANING LIGHT DISPLAYS "HILL ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE" EVERY TIME THE TRANSMISSION GOES INTO A NEUTRAL POSITION, WHILE THE GEAR IS PHYSICALLY IN ITS "D" (DRIVE) POSITION. THIS FOCUS LEAVES ME WARY WHILE BEHIND ITS WHEEL. WILL THIS CAR EVENTUALLY INJURE ME OR ANOTHER PERSON (S) WHILE THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY ACCELERATES ONCE AGAIN, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
2012 FORD FOCUS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO STEERING CONTROL MODULE RECALL REPAIR ISSUES, TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND WINDSHIELD MOTOR MALFUNCTION. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED ON THE NIGHT OF NOVEMBER 12, 2016, A SAFETY WARNING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH. WHEN HE TRIED DRIVING ABOUT 12 MILES HOME, HE HAD NO POWER STEERING. THE PROBLEM DID NOT OCCUR AGAIN. ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 14, 2016 THE CONSUMER STOPPED BY A NON-FORD GARAGE. NO WORK WAS PERFORMED. HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC STATED THE PROBLEM WAS THE STEERING CONTROL MODULE. THE MECHANIC SUGGESTED TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. UPON INSPECTION, THE DEALER CLAIMED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM, BUT TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK, IF THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THREE WERE NO TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. HOWEVER, IN MARCH 2016, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE DEALER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A WEAK BATTERY. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN AND THE DEALER STATED IT WAS THE FAULT OF THE ALTERNATOR NOT SENDING ENOUGH CURRENT TO THE MODULE. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. ON JULY 4, 2016, THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER USED THE OFF KEY PROCEDURE, TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO GEAR, BUT THE LIGHT REMAINED ON. *JB
WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED ON AND STATIONARY, IT WILL DISPLAY "STEERING ASSIST FAULT," AND THE POWER STEERING WILL NOT TURN ON, GREATLY REDUCING THE CAPACITY TO STEER. UPON TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, THE POWER STEERING RE-ENGAGES. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR ABOUT ONE YEAR NOW.
THE CAR ROLLS FORWARD/BACKWARD WHEN IN PARK. THE CAR SHUDDERS AND SHAKES WHEN YOU TAKE OFF OR WHEN YOU SLOW DOWN AND THE ACCELERATE. I HAVE HAD THE CLUTCH WORKED, REPLACED AND HAD THE REPLACEMENT'S SOFTWARE UPDATED. IT BEHAVES LIKE IT DID WHEN IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED THE FIRST TIME. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL AND I WAS TOLD TO DRIVE THE CAR LIKE I STOLE IT WHEN TAKING OFF AND ACCELERATING. I SPEAK THE TRUTH WHEN I TELL YOU THAT....EXACT WORDS...DRIVE IT LIKE I STOLE IT. I HAVE MODIFIED MY DRIVING HABITS BUT IT HAS NOT HELPED AND I FEEL THOSE HABITS ARE DANGEROUS. THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW HAS IN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WHERE IT WILL NOT ROLL UP WHEN ROLLED DOWN. THE DOOR LATCH MAY TAKE UP TO SIX MONTHS TO BE FIXED DUE TO LACK OF PARTS AND THE CLUTCH STILL STUTTERS AND SHUDDERS AROUND CORNERS AND SLOW SPEED TAKE OFFS. UPDATED 12/29/16. *JB
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED WHILE PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND HAS FAILED TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS MODEL, BUT HAS ON OTHER MODELS WITH SAME ISSUE. THERE ARE MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM YOU CAN FIND ONLINE, EVEN NEWS ARTICLES ABOUT THIS HAPPENING WITH THIS MODEL. EVEN THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS AT THE FORD DEALER KNEW OF THE PROBLEM.

I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER BUT WAS DEFINITELY SHAKEN AS I ALMOST HIT SEVERAL CARS. I KNOW THAT IF MY YOUNGER SISTER WAS DRIVING SHE WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN WHAT TO DO. NOW ON TO THE MIND SCRAMBLE... I WAS TOLD THERE ARE 41000 TCM'S CURRENTLY ON BACKORDER AND THE WAIT TIME IS 3 TO 4 MONTHS! THEY EXPECT ME TO LEAVE MY CAR AT THE DEALER PUSHED TO THE BACK OF THEIR LOT AND STORED FOR 3 TO 4 MONTH. OF COURSE THEY DID OFFER TO TAKE MY CAR IN ON A TRADE! DOESN'T THIS SEEM LIKE A NICE WAY TO INCREASE CAR SELLS!? WHAT WOULD THEY EVEN GIVE ME ON TRADE FOR A BROKEN DOWN CAR? THIS IS PATHETICALLY LAUGHABLE. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT A CAR THAT HAS HAD THREE RELATED TRANSMISSION "UPGRADES" WITH SEALS AND CLUTCHES, EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THOSE THAT RARELY DRIVE, AND NOW A TCM REPROGRAMMING AND WARRANTY EXTENSION TO 150K IS A PROBLEMATIC RELEASE AND SHOULD BE A FORCED RECALL! AS IS, MY ONLY REMEDY IS TO SUE FORD IN A CLASS ACTION IN ORDER TO GET AROUND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT "FEELING MY PAIN". CAR HAD BEEN PARKED OVERNIGHT. WENT TO START UP AND THE "FAULTY STEERING ASSIST" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID TO CHECK THE BATTERY. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE HAD TO REPLACE THE ELECTRONIC STEERING GEAR AND RACK AND PINION. TOTAL COST $2500.

AFTER ABOUT 10 MILES THE DASH DISPLAY INDICATED A YELLOW DISPLAY STATING "SERVICE STEERING SYSTEM SOON". I CONTINUED TO DEALERSHIP AND ARRIVED JUST BEFORE 7:00 PM. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR INTO A PARKING SPACE NEAR SERVICE THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED AND BECAME IMMOVABLE AND CAR DISPLAY STATED A RED WARNING BOX " TOTAL STEERING FAILURE - STOP SAFELY" THIS IS THE CONDITION THE SERVICE MANAGER FOUND THE NEXT MORNING. THE CAUSE IS A TOTAL FAILURE OF THE ELECTRONIC STEERING CONTROL MODULE. THE COST TO REPLACE THIS PART IS $2000 AFTER WHICH TIME THE DEALER CAN DIAGNOSE "ANY OF THE OTHER THREE COMMON CAUSES OF STEERING LOSS."

ASKED ME TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED. MY BACK DRIVER DOOR JUST STOPPED CLOSING COMPLETELY, I DAMAGED MY SIDE OF THE DOOR FROM STOPPING THE DOOR FROM COMING OPEN. MY NEAREST DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT PARTS WEREN'T AVAILABLE FOR MY CAR AND THAT I'LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR TO GET MY CAR FIXED. THE CAR LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND WAS UNABLE TO MOVE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM (NO WARNING LIGHTS). THIS HAPPENED MANY TIMES OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS BUT WITHOUT THE WARNING LIGHT GOING OFF. NOW I HAVE NO POWER STEERING AT ALL IN FORWARD OR REVERSE AND IT DOES NOT GET FIXED WHEN TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE STEERING MODULE HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACE. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON LINE AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN A SAFETY RECALL IS BEYOND ME. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH FORD AND NHTSA FOR NOT ALREADY ACTING ON THIS!
