2006 FORD FREESTYLE, THROTTLE BODY ASSEM. STICKING AND LURCHING. CREATES A VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION AS THE VEHICLE WILL REV UNEXPECTANLY, AT LIGHTS-SIGNS IN PARKING LOTS ETC., LOSS OF POWER ON A BUSY FREEWAY!!!, THROTTLE BODY BACKLOG FOR UP TO 6 MONTHS SO CAR OWNER IS FORCED TO EITHER DRIVE OR PARK. *TR
SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE IN TRAFFIC , A/C RUNNING - FOOT ON BRAKES . CAR ENGINE RPM REV'S UP. YOU HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART OF FACE DANGER. *TR
THE THROTTLE BODY IN MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE WAS CAUSING MY CAR TO EITHER STALL OR LUNGE OUT OF CONTROL. TRYING TO PULL INTO TRAFFIC, THE CAR STALLED IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THEN BEGAN WORKING AS NORMAL. A FEW DAYS LATER THE CAR BEGAN TO LUNGE FORWARD OR BACKWARD WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTED. WOULD LUNGE WHEN IN DRIVE AND STOPPED. TOOK TO DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED WITH A NEW THROTTLE BODY. I DO NOT HAVE THE OLD ONE. FORD KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM. THEY HAVE BEEN BACKORDERED FOR MOST OF 2009 AND INTO 2010 ON THIS PART. THEY HAVE CHANGED THE REPLACEMENT PART TO A NEW ONE, WITH DIFFERENT PART NUMBER. THOUSANDS OF CARS HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE. CARS CAN STALL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IN TRAFFIC. OR CAN SUDDENLY LUNGE FORWARD EVEN WHEN THE BRAKE IS DEPRESSED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS TO 2500. THE VEHICLE THEN ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND THE CONTACT ABRUPTLY DEPRESSED THE BRAKES TO STOP THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE STALLED ONCE HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
2006 FORD FREESTYLE. UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION AT LOW (IDLE) SPEEDS. OCCURS SPORADICALLY, USUALLY WHEN AIR CONDITIONER IS ON AND CAR IS IN REVERSE. ALSO HAPPENS WHEN AT A STOP IN DRIVE. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE OTHER DAY IT HAPPENED IN A DRIVE THROUGH LANE AND I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I BRAKED AND TURNED TO THE RIGHT AND THE CAR STALLED. IT DID NOT RUN GOOD FOR THE NEXT 10 MILES. I DROVE DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEMS IN DETAIL. NEXT DAY I WAS TOLD T HAT IT WAS A DIRTY AIR FILTER AND NOTHING WAS FOUND. I TOLD THEM THAT I HAD RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THOUSANDS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THAT IT WAS T HE THROTTLE BODY. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND THEY COULD NOT REPLACE THE PART UNTIL IT DID. THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS. *TR
THIS SUMMER I BEGAN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATING AND LUNGING FORWARD IF THE CAR IS IN DRIVE OR BACKWARD IF THE CAR IS IN REVERSE. THE ISSUE USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN THE AC IS RUNNING AND IT IS HOT OUTSIDE. I ALMOST RAN OVER A PERSON BECAUSE THE CAR LURCHED SO BAD. THE WRENCH LIGHT ON THE CAR CAME ON. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR HAD VERY LITTLE POWER WHILE THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON. FORD HAS NO REMEDY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND IT STARTED SHAKING AND HESITATING. WHEN SHE SHIFTED IN DRIVE, THE VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD. SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TWO MILES TO HER RESIDENCE APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH SINCE IT CONTINUED TO HESITATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO ADVISED HER TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DEALERS POSSESSION WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 37,200.
ENGINE REVVED-UP FIERCELY IN 2006 FORD FREESTYLE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PARALLEL PARK THE VEHICLE IN JULY 2010. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN THE IDLE POSITION, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LUNGED FORWARD. SHE FORCEFULLY APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY FIVE TO SIX TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS BEING INSPECTED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO FILED A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 81,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.
WHEN DRIVING MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE IF I AM STOPPING, AT A LIGHT, THROUGH A DRIVE THROUGH, OR PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE MY CAR LUNGES FORWARD - EVEN WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THIS PAST WEEKEND WE WERE STOPPED AT A LIGHT WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND WE HAD TO THROW THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO STOP BEFORE WE ENDED UP IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC. WE ALSO ALMOST HIT A CAR PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE THIS WEEKEND. THE ISSUE IS GETTING WORSE NOW AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS STATED IT IS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. THE PROBLEM SEEMS WORSE WHEN I AM RUNNING THE AC. THE ISSUE IS THAT THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKE IS PRESSED. IT IS A VERY SCARY AND I AM WORRIED I AM GOING TO HIT ANOTHER CAR OR AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER WHO WALKS IN FRONT OF MY CAR. I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR MY CAR SO THE DEALERSHIP IS COVERING THE COST BUT IS SAYING THE PART IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER AND I MAY HAVE TO DRIVE MY CAR WHILE I WAIT. *TR
THROTTLE BODY/TRANSMISSION NUMEROUS INCIDENTS OF 2006 FORD FREESTYLE SURGING WHILE IDLING. DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC AS THE BRAKES WOULD HAVE TO BE HELD DOWN IN ORDER TO NOT HIT CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. TRANSMISSION FAILED GOING DOWN EXPRESSSWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR WITH 3 GRANDCHILDREN IN CAR. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED 350 MILES HOME. IN ADDITION TO ALL OF THIS, MY IN-LAWS HAVE THE SAME TYPE VEHICLE AND ARE NOW CURRENTLY HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. WITH THE CURRENT ONLINE COMPAINTS, THIS DOESN'T SURPRISE ME. FORD KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS TRANSMISSION AND DISCONTINUED USING IT IN LATER MODEL FREESTYLES. I THINK FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR SELLING A VEHICLE WITH DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION AND THROTTLE BODY. TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WOULD COST 5,000 TO 6,000 DOLLARS WHICH IS HALF THE PRICE OF THE CAR. THIS IS TOTALLY UNFAIR FOR LOYAL FORD CUSTOMERS TO HAVE DEAL WITH. THIS WOULD BE OUR 41ST YEAR OF OWNING ONLY FORD VEHICLES AND WILL BE OUR LAST. THERE ARE TOO MANY OF THESE INCIDENTS BEING REPORTED FOR NOTHING TO BE DONE. THANKFULLY NO CRASH OR INJURY BUT I SUSPECT THAT THE LATTER IS WHAT IT WILL TAKE TO FINALLY HAVE THIS ISSUE INVESTIGATED. *TR
WE HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE WHICH HAS DRIVEN WELL FOR YEARS WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMS. IN JULY 2010, WE BECAME CONCERNED WITH THE CAR'S SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN BOTH REVERSE AND DRIVE. EACH TIME YOU PLACE THE CAR INTO GEAR (WITHOUT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR), THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD OR BACKWARD AND IT IS TERRIFYING TO DRIVE. AFTER THE CAR LUNGES IT WILL SOMETIMES STALL. YOU CANNOT EASE SLOWLY OUT OF PARKING SPACES OR MORE SLOWLY THROUGH TRAFFIC BECAUSE YOU COULD EASILY HIT ANOTHER CAR OR PERSON. THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION STARTED OUT AS HARDLY NOTICEABLE BUT NOW THE CAR IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE. ON JULY 22, 2010, WE TOOK THE CAR TO OUR FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD US THE PROBLEM WAS WILL THE "THROTTLE BODY". THEY TOLD US WE COULDN'T DRIVE THE CAR AT ALL UNTIL THIS PART WAS REPLACED. NATIONWIDE THIS PART IS ON BACK ORDER FOR AT LEAST 2 WEEKS. APPARENTLY, THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR MANY 2006 FREESTYLES. *TR
OUR 2006 FORD FREESTYLE HAS STARTED TO ACCELERATE AT HIGHER SPEEDS WHEN PUTTING IN REVERSE EVEN WHEN BRAKE IS BEING APPLIED,THIS ALSO HAPPENS WHEN PUTTING INTO DRIVE ,BUT NOT AS OFTEN AS REVERSE. WE HAVE 50,000 MILES ON OUR CAR AND HAVE HAD NO OTHER PROBLEMS THUS FAR. OUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TODAY AND I AM PLANNING ON CONTACTING A FORD DEALER TOMORROW TO GET IT DIAGNOSED? AFTER THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF A TRANSMISSION SERVICE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. UPON RESTART THE SERVICE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY WHILE DRIVING FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 100,800.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,190 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,000.

THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,625 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,805 .
2006 FORD FREESTYLE. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEMS WITH CVT TRANSMISSION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE FIRST INCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE SURGING/LUNGING OCCURRED THE WEEK OF JULY 19, 2010. SHE WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED/LUNGED, THE GAUGES ON THE CONTROL PANEL BEGAN ACTING ERRATIC AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC, WHO WAS UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR 4 DAYS. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND HE FOUND AN ERROR CODE THAT READ TRANSMISSION CONTROL MALFUNCTION. THE CONSUMER THEN WENT TO THE DEALER WHERE SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND A DIAGNOSIS REVEALED, THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $ 5,600.00. *JB

THE CONTACT HAD TO FORCEFULLY DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO AVOID A CRASH. THE FAILURE WAS MOST PROMINENT WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED AND THERE WERE WARMER WEATHER TEMPERATURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 144,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000.
DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING CAR IN CHICO CA I WAS IN PASSENGER SEAT. 100 DEGREE TEMPS AND THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS OPERATING AT HIGH SETTING. SHE WAS SLOWLY ROLLING FORWARD INTO A PARKING SPACE COVERING THE BRAKE WHEN THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD AS THOUGH SHE HAD STEPPED ON THE GAS. CONTACTED THE DEALER BY PHONE TODAY AND HE ASSURED ME THAT THERE WERE NO SERVICE BULLETINS CONCERNING THIS ISSUE. HE SAID BECAUSE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THAT IT PROBABLY WOULD NOT SHOW UP ON A COMPUTER CHECK. I WILL BE STOPPING BY TOMORROW TO HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. *TR
AFTER IDLING FOR AWHILE IN THE HEAT THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE IS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE AND IF YOU GO TO THE WEBSITE MYFORDFREESTYLE.COM YOU WILL FIND 8 PAGES OF THROTTLE BODY COMPLAINTS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER APPROX 4 MONTHS AGO COMPLAINING OF TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANS. WAS FINE, NEVER DID THEY SUGGEST OR CHECK THE THROTTLE BODY. I WAS IN A PARKING GARAGE ON THE DOWN EXIT RAMP AND COULD HAVE LUNGED FORWARD INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE FREESTYLE. MY CLOSE FRIEND ALSO HAS A 2007 FREESTYLE AND IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR

WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN IT CONTINUED TO LUNGE FORWARD. SHE HAD TO CONTINUE TURNING THE ENGINE ON AND OFF IN ORDER TO STOP THE FAILURE FROM OCCURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THEY HAD TO PERFORM TWO DIAGNOSTIC TESTS AT HER EXPENSE. THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, BUT THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. THE FAILURE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY RECALLS OR WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND SHE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 54,000.

EARLY JULY 2010 CAR WOULD SURGE AFTER STARTED WHEN PLACED INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. JULY 17,2010 ABOUT 95 DEGREES AMBIENT. DRIVING 55 MPH CAR STARTED TO LOSE POWER AND STALL. RESTARTED AND IT WENT INTO LIMP MODE WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND OCCASIONAL SURGES. I FOUND A FORD DEALER ABOUT 5 MILES AWAY. DIAGNOSIS WAS A BAD MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. REPLACED AND WE WERE ON OUR WAY AGAIN. EARLY JUNE 2011 IT WAS SURGING AFTER STARTING WHEN PLACED IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. JUNE 11,2011. CAR STALLED AND WENT INTO LIMP MODE AGAIN WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. BOUGHT A NEW MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR, INSTALLED IT MYSELF AND CLEARED THE CODE. JULY 5,2011 WHILE DRIVING TO BALTIMORE AT 65 MPH AND 100 DEGREE AMBIENT, CAR STALLED, RESTARTED AND IT WENT INTO LIMP MODE WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I FOUND A PARKING LOT WITH SHADE AND LET IT IDLE FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. SHUT IT OFF AND RESTARTED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF AND IT RAN FINE TO BALTIMORE. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE MASS AIR FLOW CIRCUIT. NHTSA CANNOT IGNORE THIS FLAW. *KB
ONE DAY OUR FORD FREESTYLE DECIDED TO LURCH FORWARD ON IT'S OWN. IT THEN LOST POWER AND HAD SEVERAL MORE SURGES. IT WAS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY (WHICH I PAID FOR) AT THE TIME AND WAS COVERED. FORD HOWEVER WAS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WE HAD TO WAIT 1 MONTH FOR A REPLACEMENT THROTTLE BODY TO BE MANUFACTURED. WE WERE HOWEVER PAYING FOR INSURANCE ON THE RENTAL OUT OF OUR OWN POCKET. AFTER GETTING THE CAR BACK WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL MORE OF THE SAME TYPE OF INCIDENTS OVER THE PAST YEAR ALL OF WHICH MYSTERIOUSLY WENT AWAY AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN. TODAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT GO AWAY. I HAD AN EXPERT READ THE TROUBLE CODES FROM THE CARS COMPUTER. THE RESULTS ARE ALL ONCE AGAIN CONTAINED TO THE THROTTLE BODY UNIT. FORD LET ME KNOW THE PART WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AFTER 12,000 MILES AND REPAIRS WILL COST ME AN ADDITIONAL 800 DOLLARS. MY WIFE USES THIS CAR TO GET AROUND WITH MY 7 YEAR OLD AND INFANT BABY. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT COULD POTENTIALLY END UP WITH A TRAGIC OUTCOME. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT FORD CAN ACT LIKE THIS IS NOT THERE FAULT AND NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. MY CAR IS BUILT ON THE FORD 500 CHASSIS AND THAT CAR TOO HAS THE SAME ISSUES ALONG WITH A FEW OTHERS. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS IT IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED IF THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ALREADY. MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE (WITH APPROXIMATELY 60K MILES) ACCELERATES SUDDENLY ON ITS OWN WHEN TRANSITIONING FROM A PARKED POSITION AND WHILE IDLING. EVEN WHEN MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKES, IT DANGEROUSLY JUMPS AND PROCEEDS WITH AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF SPEED. THIS CAUSES DIFFICULTY WHEN IT OCCURS WHILE PARALLEL PARKING. WENT TO FORD DEALER AND THEY CHARGED ME $108.00 TO CHECK THE CAR AND TELL ME THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FORD SERVICE PERSON INDICATED THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS AS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. THREE WEEKS HAS PASSED AND THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE THE PART. I NOW UNDERSTAND THE PART CANNOT BE LOCATED IN ANY OTHER CITY AND THAT IT MAY BE ATLEAST ANOTHER 2 - 3 MONTHS BEFORE THE PART IS AVAILABLE ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES. NO ONE OFFERED A LOANER CAR OR ANYTHING. FOR THIS TO BE SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM WHERE THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER INDICATES TO ME THAT FORD SHOULD BE FIXING THE PROBLEM AND/OR COMPENSATING CONSUMERS WHO NEED VEHICLES (WHILE AWAITING THIS PART AND REPAIR) THAT WORK SAFELY. WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION AND THAT THE COST OF REPAIR WAS $600 TO $800. DEALER INDICATED A PROBLEM IN GETTING PART AS THERE HAD BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THIS FOR SOME TIME ON THE FREESTYLE. I DID NOT KEEP OLD PART, BUT LATER LOOKED UP "FORD FREESTYLE COMPLAINTS" AND NOTED THERE ARE A NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS HAVING SAME PROBLEM, SOME OCCURRING IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. ADDITIONALLY WE HAVE FOUND TWO LOCAL FREESTYLE OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD SAME ISSUE AND SAME REPAIR DONE. WE PUT ABOUT 30,000 MILES A YEAR ON OUR VEHICLES AND KEEP THEM FOR 3 TO 4 YEARS. THE MECHANICS DID NOT DETECT ANY DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. SINCE THEN THERE HAVE BEEN PROBABLY SIX (6) MORE EVENTS WITHOUT THE ENGINE GOING INTO FORCED LIMITED POWER MODE. IN ALL EVENTS THE ENGINES SURGES TO APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 1500RPM AND 1800RPM WITH THE CAR IN DRIVE AND THE FOOT SECURELY ON THE BRAKE. THE EVENT GENERALLY LASTS LESS THAN 5 SECONDS. ALL EVENTS OCCURRED DURING SUMMER MONTHS. LAST EVENT WAS THIS PAST WEDNESDAY WHEN MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR. I WITNESSED THE EVENT AS A PASSENGER. THE TWO CODES THAT CAME UP ARE P2106 AND P061B. IT ALMOST RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE CAR WAS TO TURN IT OFF. UPON BRINGING IT TO THE DEALER, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE "THROTTLE BODY" WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ABOUT $ 1,400. UPON RESEARCHING THE NHTSA WEBSITE, WE DISCOVERED THAT THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 200 OR MORE COMPLAINTS REGARDING A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THE SAME MODEL CAR AND THE SAME MODEL YEAR (UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION AND LOSS OF CONTROL). THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE "THROTTLE BODY" COULD NOT BE REPLACED UNTIL AUGUST 20, 2010, AS THERE ARE NO LONGER PARTS AVAILABLE ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY. AND FOR THE NEXT 35 DAYS THE CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN. UPON CALLING THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY CONSUMER HOTLINE, THE GIRL WITH WHOM I SPOKE TOLD ME THAT "THE PART IS ON BACKORDER" BEFORE I EVEN HAD A CHANCE TO TELL HER WHAT PART I WAS REFERRING TO, LEADING ME TO BELIEVE SHE WAS ALREADY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THE SHORTAGE OF PARTS WAS DUE TO HAVING TO EFFECT SO MANY OF THESE REPAIRS. WHEN I TOLD HER MORE ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THE FACT THAT THIS WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES (EVEN REFERENCING THE RECENT CASE WITH TOYOTA), SHE PUT ME ON HOLD FOR ALMOST 20 MINUTES WHILE SHE TRIED TO REACH DIFFERENT PEOPLE, BUT SHE WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE OR DISCUSS WHETHER THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE BY FORD. SHE EVADED THE QUESTION JUST TOLD ME THAT SHE WOULD HAVE SOMEONE "ESCALATE THE REQUEST" AND WOULD CALL ME. SHE SOUNDED VERY DEFENSIVE, AND BECAME MORE DEFENSIVE WHEN I TOLD HER ABOUT THE NEAR ACCIDENT BUT COULDN'T EXPLAIN HOW THEY COULD BE OUT OF THIS SPECIFIC PART THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT FORD IS BEING ALLOWED TO OPERATE BUSINESS IN THIS WAY. MY FIRST CONTACT REGARDING THIS PROBLEM WAS JULY 6, 2010 AND STILL NOTHING. FORD HAS NOT PROVIDED ME WITH THE PART REQUIRED TO FIX MY CAR AND CANNOT TELL ME WHEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE. THEY ALSO WILL NOT PROVIDE ME WITH A SAFE VEHICLE TO DRIVE AND IS SUGGESTING THAT I CONTINUE TO DRIVE A CAR THAT ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN. THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO STAY IN BUSINESS. I AM CONTACTING ALL NECESSARY AUTHORITIES REGARDING THIS SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD WILL NOT ADDRESS OR RESOLVE. *TR
2006 FORD FREESTYLE WITH APPROX 40,000 MILES, HEAR ACCELERATION/DECELERATION WHEN NOT MOVING, TURN OFF CAR AND RESETS, ONCE HAD TO RESET AS MANY AS 5 TIMES TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE OUT OF PARKING LOT - HAD TO STOP AND TURN OFF CAR IN MIDDLE OF DRIVING LANE IN PARKING LOT, DIFFICULT TO STEER WHEN ISSUE IS OCCURRING, REPAIRED THROTTLE CONTROL BODY (TOOK OVER 2 WEEKS FOR DEALERSHIP TO OBTAIN PART, DEALER COULD NOT PROVIDE RENTAL AND I DID NOT DRIVE MY CAR FOR OVER A WEEK DUE TO SAFETY ISSUE). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING INTO A CAR WASH THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD ALMOST HITTING A PEDESTRIAN. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWO DOZEN TIMES. THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS IN USE WHEN THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD. THE CONTACT HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER OR CALLED THE MANUFACTURER BUT STATED THERE WERE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING SURGING FOR HIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
PUT VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND IT ACCELERATED BACKWARDS. ALMOST HIT A CAR, BUT LUCKILY ME VEHICLE SHUT OFF BEFORE WE HIT. (FOOT WAS ON BRAKE WHEN I SWITCHED GEARS, BUT STILL ACCELERATED) ACCELERATED IN BANK DRIVE THRU AND THEN CUT OFF AGAIN. WENT TO GAS STATION AFTER AND PUT IT IN REVERSE WITH FOOT ON BRAKE AND IT ACCELERATED BACK. I PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE AND DROVE HOME PRAYING. PER FORD THROTTLE BODY WAS CLEANED AND HAS BEEN BETTER, BUT STILL ACCELERATES IN DRIVE AND REVERSE. FORD SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TO FIX A PROBLEM THEY HAD DEALINGS WITH. THE CAR OWNER'S NEVER DID AND SOME OF US CAN NOT AFFORD THEIR MISTAKE. *TR
SURGING FROM A WHILE BRAKE APPLIED OR WHEN LETTING OFF BRAKE BUT BEFORE APPLYING GAS. FRONT END NOISES WHEN TURNING TO RIGHT, LOUD CREAKING SOUND. BRAKES MAKE A CREAKING SOUND ALSO BUT SHOW NOW SIGNS OF NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. ALL ISSUES STARTED AT THE SAME TIME. *TR
WHILE IN IDLING IN PARK WITH A/C ON, PUT VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND VEHICLE BEGAN TO QUICKLY ACCELERATE WITHOUT PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. HAD TO QUICKLY PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO AVOID RUNNING INTO PEOPLE/VEHICLE BEHIND ME. EVEN WITH BRAKE PEDAL BEING APPLIED, VEHICLE TENDS TO LURCH IN REVERSE. THIS HAPPENS ON A WEEKLY BASIS. FORD DEALER SAID IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL AND IS CAUSED BY A PART THAT IS ON BACK ORDER FOR MONTHS. VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE. *TR

REPORTED TO DEALERSHIP,THEY TOLD US THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF THIS ISSUE & WERE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE IT. RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET & FOUND OTHERS W/ SIMILAR ISSUES. THROTTLE BODY IDENTIFIED AS RESPONSIBLE FOR SUDDEN LURCHING. BROUGHT UP THE ISSUE W/DEALER PRIOR TO OUR BEING OUT OF WARRANTY. IT WAS AFTER THE FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRED,THE PART WAS FINALLY CHANGED. DEALER STATED COULD NOT REPLICATE ISSUE EVEN THOUGH WE BROUGHT IT TO THEIR ATTENTION SEVERAL TIMES. ONLY WHEN OCCURRING ALL THE TIME - DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE. FORD DENIED ANY SAFETY ISSUE & SAID WE NEEDED TO PAY FOR A REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY. COST BETWEEN $1,000 - $2,000 INCLUDING LABOR.FORD & DEALERSHIP INSISTED NOT A SAFETY ISSUE & NO RECALL.WE APPEALED TO OUR DEALER, ARMED WITH INFO FROM THE INTERNET CITING INFO WAS ON VARIOUS SITES BY HUNDREDS OF FORD FREESTYLE OWNERS .LOCAL DEALER PARTNERED WITH US TO REPLACE THE PART FOR $100.00. WE BELIEVE THAT THEY DID THIS DUE TO THE FACT THEY HAD SERVICED 100% OF THE WORK ON THE CAR SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED. ONE YEAR LATER & SAME LURCHING BEGAN AGAIN IN BOTH REVERSE AND DRIVE. WE WENT BACK TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY TESTED THE CAR AND FOUND THE PART INDEED HAS FAILED AGAIN & IS LURCHING. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP STATED ONCE AGAIN THEY HAVE NO FORMAL NOTICE OF RECALL OR PROBLEMS WITH THE 'THROTTLE BODY'. FORD ONCE AGAIN HAS DENIED THAT THERE ARE ANY ISSUES WITH THIS PART. DEALERSHIP PARTNERED W/US & REPLACED PART IN JULY '11 FOR 2ND TIME. WE HAVE 2 INVOICES FOR BOTH REPLACEMENTS. .JUST THIS LAST WEEKEND EVEN THOUGH THE PART WAS JUST REPLACED A 2ND TIME, WE NOTICED TWICE THAT THE CAR LURCHED IN REVERSE. *TR
OUR 2006 FORD FREESTYLE LUNGES/SURGES WHEN GOING FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR PARK TO REVERSE. IT IS OCCURRINGGG MORE FREQUENTLY AND WITH GREATER SURGES. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS SUCH AS PULLING THE CAR INTO THE GARAGE OR A PARKING SPACE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR AT LEAST 1 YEAR AND HAS APPROXIMATELY 84,000 MILES ON IT. WE HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES PADS AND ROTORS WITH BETTER THAN OEM PARTS ON THE ADVICE FROM OUR NON-DEALER MECHANIC SO OUR BRAKES HOLD THE VEHICLE PRETTY WELL WHEN THESE SURGES OCCUR. HOWEVER IT STILL LUNGES OR SURGES AND WE FEEL THAT IT IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY UNSAFE TO OPERATE. *TR
MY '06 FORD FREESTYLE HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH SURGING FORWARD ESPECIALLY WHEN MOVING SLOWLY BACK AND FORTH INTO A PARKING SPOT. AT TIMES IT EVEN STALLS. THE SURGE CAUSES THE CAR TO RAPIDLY ACCELERATE AND I'M FORCED TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR, WALL, PERSON, OR WHATEVER IS IN FRONT OF ME. IT USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN THE AC IS ON. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO A FORD SERVICE STATION ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DETECT THE PROBLEM. ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT, THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE MY CONCERN. THE NEXT TWO TIMES I WENT INTO THE CAR WITH THE TECHNICIANS AND THEY DID EXPERIENCE THE SURGING MOTION. HOWEVER, WHEN RUNNING THE DIAGNOSTIC ON THE CAR, NO PROBLEMS WERE INDICATED. MOST RECENTLY, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS UPDATED ON THE CAR AND I WAS SENT HOME, AS THE TECHNICIANS SAID THEY DROVE THE CAR AND NO LONGER FELT THE SURGING. BY THE TIME I EXITED THE HIGHWAY (5 MILES LATER) THE CAR WAS SURGING AND THREATENING TO STALL OUT. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING ONLINE AND HAVE DISCOVERED MULTIPLE FREESTYLE OWNERS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. MOST HAVE INDICATED THAT THE CAUSE IS THE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT TO BRING IN MY CAR TOMORROW AND HAVE PHOTOCOPIED SOME OF THOSE COMPLAINTS. IF THIS ISSUE IS PREVALENT IN FORD FREESTYLES, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR OUR VEHICLES TO BE REPAIRED AT FORD'S EXPENSE. DRIVING MY 4 YEAR OLD CAR SHOULD NOT MAKE ME FEEL LIKE MY LIFE IS IN DANGER. *TR
