MY 2007 FORD FREESTYLE LUNGES FORWARD & BACKWARD UNCONTROLLABLY. HAD VEHICLE SERVICED AT FORD DEALERSHIP ON 10-21-2010 AND WAS DIAGNOSED AND ADVISED TO REPLACE ALL PLUGS AND 1 COIL AND 7 BOOTS, MILEAGE 78,436. COMPLETED THE SERVICE AS ADVISED, COST $931.35. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON JUNE OF 2011. HAD SAME DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSE AND THE SAME DIAGNOSIS CAME BACK BUT EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT OK. I HAD THE DEALERSHIP REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY AT MY REQUEST BECAUSE OF SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE UNCONTROLLABLE LUNGING AND OTHER FORD FREESTYLE'S HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AT MILEAGE 85,976 AT A COST OF $740.41. TODAY, 8-18-2011 WITH MILEAGE AT 87,600, I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE LUNGING UNCONTROLLABLY. BASED ON THE ABOVE DESCRIPTION, I BELIEVE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. ADDITIONALLY, I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS A MISDIAGNOSIS OF THE INITIAL PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE REIMBURSED BOTH COSTS. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU NEED FURTHER INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION. CAR LUNGES AT STOPS AND LOW SPEEDS. *KB
TRANSMISSION (CVT) STARTED MAKING NOISES AND LUNGING FORWARD EVEN WHEN FOOT ON BRAKE. HAD TO HAVE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. ON MAY 13TH, 2011 TOOK VEHICLE BACK IN FOR THE LUNGING FORWARD ISSUE. HAD AIR FILTER REPLACED DUE TO NOT SEALING PROPERLY AND THAT WOULD PROBABLY TAKE CARE OF THE LUNGING. IT WAS FINE FINE FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND THE LUNGING IS HAPPENING NOW ON A DAILY BASIS AND IT'S VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE ALMOST HIT THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME AND ALSO PARKING IN THE GARAGE IT HAS ALMOST HIT THE GARAGE WALL BECAUSE IT LUNGED FORWARD WHEN MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER PLACING HER VEHICLE IN REVERSE, IT LUNGED BACKWARDS; AND THE TOOL SYMBOL ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL EXCESSIVELY IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD WHEN SHIFTED INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE, FORCING HER TO APPLY HEAVY PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE TACOMETER WOULD DISPLAY A READING OF 2,500 RPMS DURING THE FAILURE. NEITHER THE DEALER, NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,226 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,900.
I RECENTLY BOUGHT A USED 2007 FORD FREESTYLE AND NOTICED THAT IT STARTED "LURCHING" INTERMITTENTLY AFTER BEING STOPPED. IT WOULD GO LURCH IN DRIVE OR REVERSE, IT DIDN'T MATTER. RECENTLY, IT WOULD NOT START. THINKING IT WAS THE BATTERY, I REPLACED IT WITH A BRAND NEW ONE AND IT WOULD NOT STAY RUNNING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A BAD THROTTLEBODY. I AM STILL WAITING ON MY CAR TO BE FIXED. *TR
I HAVE THE SUNSHINE KIDS RADIAN SL CAR SEAT. THE SUPERLATCH BELT FEATURES A TILT/LOCK MECHANISM THAT FALLS AGAINST THE CORNER OF THE BELT PATH IN MANY VEHICLES, RESULTING IN AN INABILITY TO LOCK. THIS COULD CAUSE THE CHILD RESTRAINT TO FAIL TO FUNCTION IN A CRASH, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH. MANY PARENTS MIGHT NOT NOTICE THIS HAPPENING AND MAY TRUST THE SUPERLATCH BELT. AFTER CONTACTING SUNSHINE KIDS CUSTOMER SERVICE, I WAS TOLD TO KEEP TRYING TO TIGHTEN IT. I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS WITH OTHER OWNERS OF THIS CAR SEAT WHO EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM AND ARE UNABLE TO SOLVE IT BY CONTINUING TO "KEEP TRYING." THE VEHICLE SURGES WHEN PUT INTO GEAR OR GEAR IS CHANGED (E.G. REVERSE TO DRIVE). ALSO, IF THE CAR SITS WITH THE AC ON FOR A PERIOD OF TIME (AS FEW AS 10 MIN) IN PARK AND IS THEN DRIVEN THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT COMES ON AND ENGINE RPM IS LIMITED TO APPROXIMATELY 2000. JUST TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON CLEARS THAT ISSUE. THE PROBLEMS ARE WORSE WHEN IT IS HOT. THAT HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY HERE IN TX. DON'T KNOW WHEN IT STARTED AS WE BOUGHT IT USED. BRAKE MUST BE VERY FIRMLY APPLIED TO AVOID A BIG JUMP - EVEN THEN, IT STILL JUMPS A LITTLE. HAVEN'T HIT ANYBODY OR ANYTHING...YET.
TRACTION CONTROL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON. DEALERSHIP REPLACED AWD PUMP UNDER WARRANTY. LIGHTS ARE STILL COMING ON. DEALERSHIP SAYS PROBLEM IS "DEM" MODULE IN REAR AXLE. DEM IS NOT CONSIDERED A POWERTRAIN PART AND DEALERSHIP WANTS $5000 TO FIX IT. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE THAT I HAVE HAD FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR NOW. I FIRST EXPERIENCED MY CAR NOT ABLE TO GO OVER TWENTY MILE PER HOUR ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON. I GOT IT HOME SHUT IT OFF AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE TILL ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO. WHEN MY CAR IS IN PARK AND WHEN I PUT IT IN REVERSE IT MAKES A FUNNY WINDING SOUND AND ABOUT A WEEK AGO MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IT AND ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN AND SHE COULDN'T EVEN DRIVE IT ANYMORE IT WAS HURKY JERKY AND GOT IT BACK TO THE HOUSE. NOW I TAKE IT IN AND THE MECHANIC SAYS ITS THE TRANSMISSION. THE COMPUTER IS SAYING THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH A TRANSMISSION AS WELL. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM A LITTLE MORE IT SEEMS THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH FORD NOT DOING ANYTHING TO START A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM COULD OF HAVE BEEN ALOT WORSE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY AND HAD A HORRIBLE CRASH BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM.. MY CAR ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 67000 MILES ON IT AND SHOULD NOT BE DOING THIS ALREADY AND ESPECIALLY AFTER I KEEP UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE ON THIS VEHICLE. IT IS GOING TO COST ME OVER 4000 DOLLARS TO GET THIS FIXED ON SOMETHING FORD HAS SEEM COMING AND IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT THIS. THIS IS PROBABLY THE REASON THEY STOPPED MAKING THIS MODEL ONLY AFTER THREE YEARS. IF SOMEONE COULD LOOK INTO THIS FOR ME ,THAT WOULD BE GREAT!!!!!!!!! *TR
THE VEHICLE ENGINE SPEED INCREASED BY APPROXIMATELY 250-350 RPM UPON SHIFTING INTO GEAR IN THE PROCESS OF PARALLEL PARKING. THE UNEXPECTED INCREASE IN ENGINE SPEED CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO MOVE MORE THAN EXPECTED ALTHOUGH I MANAGED TO AVOID STRIKING THE OTHER PARKED CAR. I DID NOT HAVE CONTACT WITH THE ACCELERATOR WHEN THE ENGINE SPEED SURGED AS DESCRIBED. I WAS LIGHTLY RIDING THE BRAKE USING SUFFICIENT FORCE TO CONTROL THE CAR'S MOVEMENT AT IDLE SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO INCREASE BRAKE PRESSURE TO OVERCOME THE UNEXPECTED INCREASE IN ENGINE SPEED, AND THUS AVOID STRIKING THE OTHER CAR. THE YELLOW "WRENCH" WARNING LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED WHEN THIS HAPPENED. ON OCTOBER 10, 2010 I TOOK THE CAR TO WALNUT CREEK (CA) FORD AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM. UPON THEIR EXAMINATION, THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. SUBSEQUENTLY, I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN SEVERAL OTHER TIMES. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN ITS HOT OUTSIDE AND THE AIR CONDITIONING IS RUNNING. THE RPM'S WILL INCREASE UPON SHIFTING FROM NEUTRAL OR PARK INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE GEAR. TO TEST FURTHER, I WAS ABLE TO PRODUCE THE PHENOMENON SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW BY GOING FROM NEUTRAL TO REVERSE &/OR DRIVE AFTER THE CONDITION OCCURRED AGAIN. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE PHENOMENON DID NOT OCCUR WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS SWITCHED OFF, BUT RE-OCCURRED WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS TURNED BACK ON. I DON'T KNOW WHAT COMPONENT IS RESPONSIBLE. I SUSPECT SOME TYPE OF SENSOR OR COMPUTER MALFUNCTION.
MY 2007 FORD FREESTYLE WITH 58,334 MILES ON IT HAS BEGUN TO SURGE AT LOW SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY BETWEEN SHIFTS FROM FORWARD TO REVERSE DURING PARKING. IT IS WORSE ON HOT WEATHER DAYS AND THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNNING. IT HAS CAUSED NEAR MISSES WITH PEOPLE AND OTHER VEHICLES. I SEE MY VEHICLE IS NOT ALONE AND WONDER WHY THIS HASN'T BEEN ADDRESSED WITH A RECALL. ARE WE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO BE KILLED FIRST? *TR
WHEN I COME TO A STOP PRIOR TO PULLING IN THE LAST FEW FEET OF A PARKING SPOT, MY CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD (REV) WITH MY FOOT NOT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. I CAN STOP THE CAR WITH THE BRAKE. IT SEEMS TO ONLY HAPPEN WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING AND/OR DEFROST ARE ON.

THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE MASS FLOW SENSOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR REVERSE TO DRIVE, THE CAR RANDOMLY SURGES FORWARD EVEN WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS NOT DEPRESSED. IT ALSO OCCURS WHEN STOPPED OR MOVING SLOWLY FORWARD SUCH AS AT A STOPLIGHT OR WHEN PARKING. THE PROBLEM IS MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON. IT IS A CONCERN THAT THIS SURGING PROBLEM MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AT SOME TIME. *KB

ALSO, WHEN SHE SHIFTED INTO GEAR, THE VEHICLE WOULD JOLT FORWARD OR BACKWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE ELECTRICAL THROTTLE BOX AND MOTOR MOUNT WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 47,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 46,000.

CAR SURGES FORWARD AT LOW SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE AC IS ON, AND SOMETIMES FEELS LIKE IT IS TRYING TO KEEP MOVING UNDER ITS OWN POWER EVEN WHEN MY FOOT IS ONLY ON THE BRAKE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ON SO I'M TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG. *TR
I BOUGHT A USED 2007 FORD FREESTYLE FROM WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A REPUTABLE DEALER TWO WEEKS AGO. I HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD AFTER HAVING PROBLEMS WIT THE CAR ACCELERATING IN REVERSE WHEN I LET OFF THE BRAKE, AND HAVING THE WRENCH LIGHT COME ON THE DASH, THAT I HAVE A FAILED THROTTLE BODY/ TRANSMISSION THAT WILL COST IN THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX. I HAVE RESEARCHED ON LINE SINCE THEN AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THOUSAND OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION/THROTTLE BODY ON THIS CAR IS DEFECTIVE AND FORD SHOULD REPLACE IT IMMEDIATELY! WHY IS THIS NOT ON A RECALL LIST?? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE . WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SURGE FORWARD AND BEGAN TO STALL. A LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL THAT LOOKED LIKE A WRENCH AND WHEN SHE MADE A LEFT TURN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT THEN TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON AND DROVE TO HER RESIDENCE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED AND WHEN IT OCCURRED THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED . THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89397. UPDATED 09/28/11*LJ THE DEALER REPLACED THE AIR FILTER. UPDATED 10/07/11
THE CAR DEVELOPED A SERIOUS RIGHT-LEFT JERK WHEN EVER THE CAR WAS ACCELERATED OR DECELERATED. THE FORD DEALER TECHNICIAN DETERMINED THAT THE LEFT LOWER BALL JOINT WAS LOOSE. FROM THE OFFICIAL FORD REPAIR MANUAL THE BALL JOINT SHOULD BE AT 85 FT-LBS. IN MY OPINION A NUT SET TO 85 FT-LBS SHOULD NOT HAVE WORKED LOOSE. THE TECHNICIAN HAD NO IDEA WHY THE BALL JOINT NUT HAD COME LOOSE. SINCE THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM A FORD DEALER AND NO FRONT END MECHANICAL WORK WAS EVER DONE, I BELIEVE THAT THE BALL JOINT NUT WAS NOT SET TO THE PROPER TORQUE WHEN THE CAR WAS INITIALLY ASSEMBLED. ONCE THE FORD DEALER COMPLETED THE REPAIR I ASKED THE TECHNICIAN TO CHECK THE RIGHT SIDE AND IN FACT THE RIGHT SIDE BALL JOINT WAS ALSO A LITTLE LOOSE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH THE VEHICLE MOMENTARILY SURGED FORWARD BEFORE THE VEHICLE STOPPED ITSELF. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER TAKEN TO BE EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE AND IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,700 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,600.
OUR 2007 FORD FREESTYLE WITH 63,000 MILES ON IT HAS BE SURGING FOR ABOUT 8 MONTHS NOW AND THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE. MY WIFE ALMOST HIT A CHILD IN THE SCHOOL PARKING LOT ONE DAY AS THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE AND THE CALLED STALLED. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL SYSTEM. I AM SHOCKED TO SEE THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM THAT I DESCRIBE HERE. I SEE MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE CAR REPAIRED ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPEN AGAIN VERY SHORTLY. SHAME ON FORD FOR NOT RECALLING THE CARS WITH AN UPDATED AND SAFE DESIGN. TOYOTA PAID THE PRICED DEARLY AND SO WILL FORD... ITS TOO BAD SOMEONE, OR MANY PEOPLE WILL GET KILLED BEFORE THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. THIS AN ETHICS PROBLEM FOR FORD. *TR
2007 FORD FREESTYLE SUDDEN LURCHING IN FORWARD AND REVERSE . SOME TIMES FOLLOWED BY ENGINE STALL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT STOP SIGNS, WHILE IN DRIVE THIS, AND BACKING ABOUT OF PARKING SPOTS. IT WAS TAKEN TO CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM (THEY SAID THAT CODE DID NOT SHOW) I T IS NOW IN THE SHOP AGAIN AS IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
WHEN STOPPED VEHICLE WILL LUNG FORWARD, IDLE WILL GO UP & DOWN CAUSING THIS TO LUNG, IDLE SPEED WILL VARY FROM ABOUT 600 RPM TO 1300 RPM THIS MAKES IT HARD TO PARK AND WHEN ON THE ROAD STOPPED, TOOK TO DEALER FOR REPAIR IN AUG OF 2010 REPAIR (CHANGED THROTTLE BODY) THAT LASTED FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND STARTED AGAIN. *TR
FORD FREESTYLE '07 LESS THAN 36K MILES...VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD WHILE FOOT WAS ON BRAKE PEDAL...VEHICLE THEN DIED IN MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY. COULD NOT DRIVE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC WHILE ON HIGHWAY BECAUSE FEAR OF RAMMING INTO VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME. HAPPENED ONE TIME BEFORE WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE WITH FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL...VEHICLE SURGED BACKWARDS. HAVE VEHICLE AT FORD DEALERSHIP NOW...AWAITING ANALYSIS. *TR
WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE FROM PARK OR NEUTRAL, THE TRANSMISSION TAKES SEVERAL SECONDS TO ENGAGE AND WHEN IT DOES IT LURCHES FORWARD OR BACKWARD WITH NO INPUT TO THE GAS PEDAL. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND BE READY TO PRESS DOWN HARD TO KEEP THE CAR FROM LUNGING FORWARD OR BACKWARD. CVT TRANSMISSION ON 2007 FORD FREESTYLE WAS MAKING A NOISE IN PARK AND REVERSE, DEALER SAID TRANSMISSION NEEDED A PART THAT WAS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER BUT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. A FEW DAYS LATER, WE EXPERIENCED A MORE SEVERE TRANSMISSION ISSUE WITH THE CAR SURGING FORWARD WHEN REVERSE OR DRIVE IS ENGAGED. WE PURCHASED A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE EARLIER THIS YEAR. SHORTLY, AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IT STARTED LUNGING FORWARD WHILE THE BRAKE WAS BEING HELD DOWN. IN ADDITION, THE LUNGING WOULD ALSO OCCUR WHEN THE CAR WAS IN REVERSE AND THE BRAKE WAS BEING HELD. THERE WERE A COUPLE OF INSTANCES, WHERE THE CAR STALLED AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND WAITED A COUPLE OF MINUTES, AND THEN RESTARTED THE CAR. THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, WHO TOLD US NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PICKING UP THE CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP IT STARTED THE LUNGING. I READ ON A FORUM THAT OTHER FORD FREESTYLE OWNERS WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME OF THE OWNERS HAD GOTTEN A FUEL INDUCTION SERVICE. WE WENT TO A DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIP FOR THE FUEL INDUCTION SERVICE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN LUNGING SINCE WE HAD THE SERVICE. *TR
ON SEVERAL OCCASSIONS BEGINNING ON THIS DATE WHILE DRIVING UNDER 10 MILES PER HOUR, THE CAR WOULD LUNG FORWARD AND THEN WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE CAR WOULD STALL. THIS "SURGING" PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR ONCE YOU TOOK YOUR FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE AFTER BEING STOPPED FOR A PERIOD OF TIME BUT WOULD HAPPEN BEFORE YOU PRESSED THE ACELERATOR. BECAUSE OF THE SEVERITY OF THE ISSUE AND AFTER ALMOST HITTING ANOTHER CAR WHILE IN A PARKING LOT, WE TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY DIAGNOISED THE PROBLEM AND WE HAD TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED WHICH WAS A SIGNIFICANT COST. SINCE THIS ISSUE IS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION, WE WANTED TO SUBMIT OUR EXPERIENCE TO BE CONSIDERED AND SO THAT WE WOULD BE NOTIFIED IN THE CASE OF RECALL.

WE HAVE ALMOST HIT A PEDESTRIAN COMING OUT OF A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT CROSSING IN FRONT OF CAR AS WE WERE GOING THROUGH DRIVE-THROUGH. WE WERE AT A STOP TO RECEIVE FOOD WITH FOOT ON BRAKE ENOUGH TO STOP FORWARD MOVEMENT WHILE AT IDLE BUT NOT ENOUGH TO STOP WHEN SURGE OCCURRED. WE HAVE ALMOST HIT NUMEROUS CARS WHILE TRYING TO PARK, ESPECIALLY DURING PARALLEL PARKING ATTEMPTS. THE CONDITION COMES AND GOES. AT TIMES WHEN IT IS "ACTING UP" THE CAR ALSO LOSES ITS ABILITY TO PROPERLY ACCELERATE IN RESPONSE TO DEMAND FOR GAS AND SPEED. PUSH ON ACCELERATOR BUT THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND EXCEPT AT ONLY A VERY SLOW RATE, TAKING MANY SECONDS TO REACH A TOP SPEED OF 25-30 MPH. THIS HAS CAUSED SAFETY ISSUES WHEN IT OCCURS WHILE PULLING OUT IN FRONT OF ON-COMING TRAFFIC, EVEN THOUGH DOING SO AT WHAT SHOULD BE A SAFE DISTANCE. I TOOK MY FORD FREESTYLE INTO THE DEALER TODAY TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT BECAUSE IT WAS LURCHING AND NOT GETTING ENOUGH POWER. IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH ...BAD THROTTLE BODY...AND THE MECHANIC HAD THE NERVE TO SUGGEST THAT IT ONLY HAPPENS TO CARS THAT AREN'T MAINTAINED PROPERLY BY THE OWNERS. I EXPLAINED THAT MINE IS WELL MAINTAINED AND I HAVE RECORDS TO SHOW FOR IT, THEN HE GAVE ME THE WONDERFUL NEWS THAT IT WOULD ONLY COST ME $1,188.93 TO FIX IT. HE ACTED LIKE IT WAS A REAL RARITY FOR THIS TO HAPPEN AND THAT I WAS GETTING A HUGE DEAL. HE EVEN CHARGED ME $99 FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM. THEN HE CAME BACK TO ME AND WARNED ME THAT IT COULD STOP OR "THE ENGINE COULD SEIZE" IF I DROVE IT STILL. WHEN I WOULDN'T TAKE THE BAIT, HE CALLED ME LATER AT HOME AND SUGGESTED THEY COULD GIVE ME A SMALL DISCOUNT FOR THE REPAIR. THEN HE ONCE AGAIN WARNED THAT IT'S VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. BY THE WAY, I'M A SINGLE WOMAN AND THE CAR HAS ONLY 47K ON IT. 2007 FORD FREESTYLE THROTTLE BODY VEHICLE PROGRESSIVELY FEELING MORE ROUGH AT IDLING (WHILE WAITING AT A STOP LIGHT). ON AUGUST 7 2010 I BACKED OUT OF A PARKING SPACE THEN WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE STARTED LURCHING FORWARD OVERRIDING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH PANEL CAME ON WHICH INDICATED A TRANSMISSION FAULT HAD BEEN DETECTED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO SAID THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
