WE OWN A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. IT IS HAVING POWER SURGES WITH ACCELERATIONS WHEN IN REVERSE OR FORWARD, ESPECIALLY ON HOT DAYS WITH THE A/C GOING. WHEN WE BREAK, THE WRENCH (TRANSMISSION LIGHT) COMES ON AND THE CAR STALLS. IT IS HARD TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND STEER ONCE THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON. INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWS SEVERAL FREESTYLE HAVE SAME ISSUE AND IT IS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS IS NOT A SAFE ERROR TO HAVE, AS THE CAR ACCELERATES AND IS HARD TO CONTROL. *TR
THIS STARTED ABOUT A MONTH AGO ON MY 2007 FORD FREESTYLE WITH 44,000 MILES. THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD WITH FOOT ON BRAKE AND THEN STALLS. IT ALSO OCCURS WHEN GOING IN REVERSE. I'VE ALMOST HIT CARS IN PARKING LOTS 3 TIMES. IT'S INTERMITTENT AND SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE WHEN IT'S HOT OUTSIDE ANT THE AC IS ON. FORD DEALERS SAYS THERE AREN'T ANY RECALLS AND I'M OUT OF WARRANTY. THEY TELL ME THERE WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS AND THAT THE ISSUE IS THE THROTTLE BODY. COST OF REPAIRS IS $700-$1000. *TR
MY 2007 FORD FREESTYLE HAS HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS THIS SUMMER THAT APPEAR TO BE OCCURRING FREQUENTLY ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES. OUR FREESTYLE HAS JUST OVER 60,000 MILES ON IT. A MONTH AGO, WE HAD TO REPLACE THE AIR COMPRESSOR. THEN THE CAR BEGAN LURCHING AND ONE DAY KEPT DYING AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. RIGHT NOW, IT HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 2 WEEKS AWAITING A THROTTLE BODY SENSOR WHICH IS ON BACKORDER SINCE SO MANY OF THESE MODELS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. CLEARLY FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS MODEL AND QUICKLY FIND REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THESE VEHICLES. *TR
2007 FORD FREESTYLE.... I WAS SETTING AT A STOP SIGN WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND JUST AS I WAS EASING MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE TO PULL OUT THE GAS SURGED AND PUT ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND THE CAR DIED. IT WAS NOT A MAJOR ROAD AND WITH QUICK THINKING I GEARED TO PARK TURNED THE KEY OFF AND STARTED IT BACK UP AND PULLED OVER INTO A PARKING LOT WHILE SETTING IN THE PARKING LOT IT DONE THE SAME THING. IF THIS HAD BEEN MY WIFE OR SON OR DAUGHTER DRIVING THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DEADLY EVENT. SIMILAR EVENTS ARE POSTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE THIS IS A SERIOUS SITUATION AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED PROMPTLY. *TR
2007 FORD FREESTYLE. CONSUMER STATES A VIBRATION/ NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE *TGW THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE VIBRATION/NOISE INSPECTED. HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE FRONT END NOISE HAD WORSENED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT ALL FOUR PIRELLI P6 TIRES WERE CUPPED WITH FLAT SPOTS. THE DAMAGE WAS ON THE INSIDE EDGE ONLY OF ALL FOUR TIRES. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE TIRES WERE REGULARLY BALANCED AND ROTATED. UPON RESEARCH, THE CONSUMER LEARNED THE PIRELLI P6 TIRES FORD INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY HAD BEEN PROBLEMATIC WHEN USED ON THE 2005/2007 FORD FREESTYLES. THE REPORT DESCRIBED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND SHOWED A TYPICAL WEAR PATTERN THAT HE EXPERIENCED WITH HIS VEHICLE. AFTER 2 1/2 YEARS, THE DEALER CONFIRMED THE NOISE WAS INDEED COMING FROM THE TIRES. THE CONSUMER STATED THE QUESTION STILL REMAINS AT WHICH CAUSED THE PROBLEM; THE TIRES OR THE SUSPENSION. *JB
2007 FORD FREESTYLE ACCELERATOR SURGES UNCONTROLLABLY. IT HAPPENS WHEN TRYING TO PARK USING REVERSE AND WHEN USING REVERSE AND DRIVE. REALLY BAD WHEN IT IS HOT OUTSIDE OR VEHICLE HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR A WHILE. *TR
2007 FORD FREESTYLE - WHEN PUT IN GEAR THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD (THIS HAPPENED IN A SCHOOL PARKING LOT - LUCKY NO ONE WAS HIT). THIS ALSO HAPPENED IN REVERSE. FORD IS REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY AT A COST TO ME OF $780. THIS SEEMS MORE OF A SAFETY ISSUE SIMILAR TO THAT OF TOYOTA. *TR
SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK, MY CAR IS UNEXPECTEDLY LUNGING FORWARD. AT THIS POINT, IT HAS GONE NO FURTHER THAN A FOOT, AND IT STOPS AS SOON AS I BRAKE. THE TRIGGER SEEMS TO BE RUNNING THE AIR CONDITIONING, AND IDLING. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN I WAS WAITING IN THE LINE FOR THE DRIVE THROUGH BANK TELLER, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE TO ROLL FORWARD AND INSTEAD LUNGED APPROXIMATELY A FOOT. I IMMEDIATELY PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR STOPPED. IT HAS HAPPENED AT STOP LIGHTS AND PARKING PLACES AS WELL. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS THE END OF THE SUMMER 2010. IT ONLY HAPPENED A FEW TIMES THAN STOPPED DURING THE WINTER, SO I ASSUMED IT WAS NOT LONGER AN ISSUE. IT STARTED AGAIN THIS SUMMER, THUS THE GUESS ABOUT THE AIR CONDITIONING, AND IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY AS THE SUMMER PROGRESSES.
2007 FORD FREESTYLE: LIFE SAFETY ISSUE - SEVERAL TIMES THE VEHICLE HAS LUNGED WHEN BACKING UP OR PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, DRIVEWAY, GARAGE, ETC. MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, BUT ON THE BRAKE (FORTUNATELY). AS SOON AS THIS HAPPENS THE FAIL SAFE LIGHT (WRENCH LIGHT) COMES ON THE DASH. YOU CAN TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON AND THE WRENCH LIGHT GOES OFF AND THE CAR SEEMS TO RUN FINE. YESTERDAY, THE CAR LUNGED WHILE BACKING UP AND ALSO WHEN MY WIFE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. IT RAN NORMAL FOR ABOUT 5 MILES, SHE PULLED OVER BECAUSE THE SERVICE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON AND WHEN SHE PULLED OUT AGAIN, THE CAR HAD NO POWER. SHE LIMPED ALONG FOR A MILE OR SO AND PULLED OFF AGAIN. TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON AND THE CAR RAN FINE. I HAVE LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND TALKED TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER. MY DEALER HAS SAID THAT IT IS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM AND THE PART WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THAT IT IS ALSO A SOFTWARE PROBLEM. THE INTERNET HAS NUMEROUS FORUMS WITH OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THIS IS A TRUE LIFE SAFETY ISSUE. THE CAR CANNOT BE CONTROLLED AND YOU HAVE TO JAM ON THE BRAKE TO KEEP FROM HITTING SOMEONE OR SOMETHING. THIS HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS AND SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE OFTEN. MY WIFE IS BEGINNING TO BE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH OUR TWO CHILDREN WITH HER. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE. *TR
WE OWN A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE WITH 61,000 MILES. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2007. THE CAR HAS RECENTLY DEVELOPED A PROBLEM WITH UNINTENDED RAPID ACCELERATION WHICH OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING AND CAN HAPPEN IN FORWARD GEAR OR REVERSE. WE ADDITIONALLY HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL SITUATIONS WHERE THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE NORMALLY -EVEN WITH FULL THROTTLE PRESS ON THE ACCELERATOR. TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY HAVE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THROTTLE BODY DEFECT AND SAY THAT IT MAY TAKE 3 WEEKS FOR PART TO BE SHIPPED. SO THAT REPAIR CAN BE MADE. THEY FURTHER STATE THAT THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE COVERED BY WARRANTY. THIS ERRATIC BEHAVIOR OF THE VEHICLE IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO THE DRIVER AND THE PUBLIC SINCE IT APPEARS TO OCCUR WITHOUT ANY WARNING. *TR
MY CAR LUNGES FORWARD OR BACKWARDS EVEN IF THE BRAKE IS FIRMLY ENGAGED. IT IS EVEN WORSE IF THE CAR HAS BEEN IDLE FOR A FEW MINUTES. IT WILL THROW A WRENCH IN THE WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH, STALL OUT AND I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF THEN ON AGAIN. IT SEEMS TO BE WORSE IF IT'S HOT OUTSIDE. THIS CAR IS VERY DANGEROUS. YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER IT LUNGING FORWARD. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND ON HERE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2007 A FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE FORWARD WHILE THE HEATING SYSTEM WAS ACTIVATED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,522 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. UPDATED 6/8/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE DEFROSTER OR AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM WAS IN USE, AFTER IDLING OR STOPPED, THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE FORWARD WITHOUT HER FOOT ON BEING ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SHE PLACED THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE, IT WOULD SURGE BACKWARD AND THEN STALL. UPDATED 06/21/11
AFTER BEING AT IDLE FOR A FEW MINUTES, THEN WHEN RESUMING DRIVING, THE CAR SURGES FORWARD STRONGLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY. IT IS USUALLY AFTER I HAVE JUST BRAKED AND HAVE JUST LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. THE CAR WILL "JUMP" FORWARD STRONGLY AND I HAVE TO QUICKLY STEP ON THE BRAKE AGAIN TO AVOID HITTING SOMETHING. I HAVE NOT ACTUALLY HAD A COLLISION BUT HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR MISSES. THE SURGING ISSUE WAS REPAIRED ON 8/6/10. THE PROBLEM DID NOT REOCCUR FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THEN THE CAR SPENT 4 MONTHS IN THE DEALERSHIP'S REPAIR CENTER DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION FAILING AND THERE BEING NO PARTS IN EXISTENCE FOR IT. NOW THAT I FINALLY HAVE THE CAR BACK, IT HAS RESUMED THE SURGING ISSUE AND IS VERY SCARY TO DRIVE. SOMETIMES THE ENGINE DIES AFTER SURGING A FEW TIMES AND SOMETIMES THE "WRENCH" LIGHT COMES ON. TURNING THE ENGINE OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTING SOMETIMES (BUT NOT ALWAYS) MAKES IT STOP SURGING. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND LEAVING IT FOR SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE USING IT AGAIN SEEMS TO "RESET" THE ISSUE, BUT THE NEXT TIME I GET STUCK IN TRAFFIC OR HAVE TO SIT AT IDLE FOR ANY REASON IT STARTS SURGING AGAIN. SINCE THE FIRST TIME I HAD THE CAR REPAIRED, I HAVE LEARNED THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE THAT YOU ARE INVESTIGATING. I HAVE SPOKEN TO FORD AND THEY ARE UTTERLY INDIFFERENT AND REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE OR HELP WITH THE PROBLEM AT ALL. MY WIFE DRIVES A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE AND HAS LATELY BEEN EXPERIENCING THE VEHICLE LUNGING/SURGING AT LOW IDLE GOING FORWARD OR BACKWARD. TODAY SHE ALMOST CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE. WHEN I RESEARCHED IT ONLINE, MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, AND THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR IS BACK-ORDERED FOR WEEKS. I HOPE IT DOESN'T TAKE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR EVEN A DEATH FOR THIS TO BE ADDRESSED. I'M WRITING FORD AT THE SAME TIME, BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT HELP TO EXPECT SINCE MANY ON THE BLOGS WITH THE VEHICLES SAY THEY'RE NOT GETTING ANY SATISFACTION FROM FORD. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. STARTED NOTICING THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY SURGE IN ACCELERATION ON ITS OWN WHEN PARKING OR BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPACES. THE FAILURE STARTED OUT AS BARELY NOTICEABLE TO A CONSTANT AND EVER INCREASING SURGE AND ARE CONSTANTLY GETTING WORSE. AFTER AVOIDING SEVERAL "NEAR CRASH INCIDENTS" I TOLD MY WIFE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED. TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD GARAGE FOR REPAIRS. REPAIR COST WAS QUOTED AS $500 AND SOME ODD DOLLARS FOR THE PART (ELECTRONIC THROTTLE LINKAGE) WITH COST OF LABOR TO REMOVE AND REPLACE LINKAGE TO BE ADDITIONAL. FORD DEALER INFORMED ME THAT DELIVER OF LINKAGE TO THEIR FACILITY WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY 13AUGUST2010 AT THE EARLIEST. I ASKED ABOUT LOCATING AND HAVE SHIPPED "OVER NIGHT" EXPRESS THE LINKAGE INSTEAD OF WAITING 2 TO 3 WEEKS. DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD CHECK WITH OTHER DEALERS AND IF THEY HAD THE PART THEY WOULD GET IT AND WOULD COST ME EXTRA SINCE THEY WERE NOT GETTING IT FROM FORD! *TR
2007 FORD FREESTYLE THROTTLE PROBLEMS ON JULY 30,2010 THE CAR SURGED BY IT'S SELF IN REVERSE. UPON GETTING THE CARD INTO NEUTRAL THE CAR STOPPED AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS ON THE BRAKES. WE DROVE THE CAR APPROX. 1/8 MILE AND STOPPED THE CAR CUT OFF. ONCE AGAIN STARTING THE CAR IT SURGED FORWARD THIS TIME. NOW I'M HAVING TO PAY $901.00 PLUS TAX TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. ON EDMUNDS.COM I HAVE READ AND I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. ONCE AGAIN FORD HAS GOTTEN AWAY WITH THE SAME THING THAT TOYOTA GOT CAUGHT IN ITS ACTIONS. ALSO THE REPAIRMAN SAID THE SOFTWARE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPROGRAMMED. PLEASE GO ONLINE AND LOOKED AT ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH THE FORD FREESTYLE. *TR
BEGINNING IN JULY 2008, I HAVE TAKEN MY 2007 FORD FREESTYLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM FOUR SEPARATE TIMES. THE ISSUE IS THAT THE VEHICLE SURGES/LUNGES WHEN THE BRAKE IS ENGAGED. THIS SURGE/LUNGE HAPPENS IN DRIVE AND REVERSE AND IT IS RANDOM. EXPERIENCES: 1. AT A STOP LIGHT, CAR SURGES FORWARD. A FRIEND OF MINE BORROWED MY CAR TO PICK UP OUR KIDS AT SCHOOL, EVEN KNOWING OF THE PROBLEM, HE ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION, 2. IN A DRIVE THRU, THE CAR SURGES FORWARD, 3. IN THE MORNING I OPEN THE GARAGE DOOR, START THE CAR, PUT IT IN REVERSE, TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND IT SHOOTS BACKWARDS. THE FIRST TWO TIMES THE DEALER COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM. THE THIRD TIME THEY WERE ABLE TO RECREATE/EXPERIENCE THE ISSUE AND INFORMED ME THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS WHERE THE ISSUE IS ORIGINATING AND THAT THE VALVE WAS STICKY. SO THEY CLEANED IT AND SENT ME HOME. I HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN AND IT IS GETTING WORSE. SO I TOOK MY FREESTYLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME IT IS INDEED THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT IT IS A ONE PIECE UNIT AND THE COMPONENTS ARE NOT WORKING TOGETHER, THAT IS WHAT IS CAUSING THE ISSUE. THEY DID SAY THAT THE PART WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED FOR $570.00, UNFORTUNATELY THE PART WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL MID AUGUST; UNFORTUNATELY, THAT IS THE DATE FOR THE OTHER UNITS THEY HAD ORDERED FOR OTHER CARS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THEY ARE NOT SURE IF THEY WILL COVER THE COST SINCE THE VEHICLE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED! MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, SOMEONE COULD SERIOUSLY BE INJURED. MY 6 YEAR OLD SON, ONCE CAME TO GREET ME AS I WAS PULLING INTO THE GARAGE WHEN I ARRIVED HOME FROM WORK AND THE CAR SURGED FORWARD. THANK THE LORD I AM AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND WAS READY FOR IT TO DO JUST THAT, SO I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT HIT HIM. I AM AFRAID THAT IT WILL TAKE SOMEONE BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED BEFORE FORD DOES SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. AND I DO MEAN FORD MOTOR COMPANY, NOT THE DEALER. *TR
PUTTING VEHICLE INTO DRIVE CAUSED VEHICLE TO "LURCH" FORWARD AT HIGH RPM. WRENCH IDIOT LINE CAME ON, CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 30MPH. HAD TO TURN CAR OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND RESTART VEHICLE TO CLEAR CONDITION AND MAKE CAR DRIVABLE. *TR
REAR BRAKES REPLACED AT 32,723 MILES. RIGHT REAR WAS DOWN TO METAL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING IN REVERSE APPROXIMATELY 3 MPH AND THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE ENGINE RESTARTED WITH A WARNING SYMBOL ILLUMINATION OF A "WRENCH" DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE WARNING SYMBOL REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE RESUMED OPERATION IN POOR PERFORMANCE. ALSO, AN UNINTENDED SURGE WOULD OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE OCCURRENCES WERE INTERMITTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE. THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE AND ON A BACK ORDER. THE REPAIR COST WAS $700. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE "POWER TRAIN" WARRANTY AND THAT HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,500. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHEN DRIVING MY 2007 FORD FREESTYLE WITH A/C ON THE CAR WILL SURGE OR ACCELERATE. WHEN SURGES OCCUR BRAKES MUST BE APPLIED QUICKLY. THIS OCCURS AFTER IDLING AS WELL. I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED IGNITION FAILURE, SLOW ACCELERATION, ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT WARNINGS. FIRST EXPERIENCED IT IN SUMMER 2010 AND TOOK IT TO MY DEALER FOR A CHECK, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY ISSUES. ANOTHER MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THIS WAS COMMON IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A DELAY RESPONSE DURING ACCELERATION. THE OCCURRENCE WAS SPORADIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $1,000. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2007 FORD FREESTYLE WITH 36,000 MILES LAST SUMMER BEGAN "LURCHING" WHEN PULLING INTO/OUT OF PARKING SPACE. THIS SUMMER NOW AT 57,000 MILES THE LURCHING IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT. IT OCCURS PRIMARILY WHEN THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS ARE COMBINED: 1) ENGINE IS WARM, 2) A/C IS ON, 3) AT COMPLETE STOP WITH BRAKES APPLIED AND 4) TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IN PREPARATION FOR A TURN. REVIEWED SEVERAL OWNER FORUMS FOR THE PROBLEM AND SEVERAL OWNERS REPORT SAME PROBLEM WITH ANSWER FROM FORD BEING "REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY". PROBLEM- THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT HARD TO FIND. TOOK MINE IN FOR SERVICE AND REPORTED ABOVE PROBLEM TO SERVICE DEPT. ANSWER WAS "NEED NEW THROTTLE BODY". WILL TRY TO FIND ONE, ON BACK ORDER. "CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE" PER FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT. AFTER EVALUATION CONDITION IS WORSE. CAR NOW IDLES BELOW 500 RPMS, AND FLUCTUATES CONSTANTLY, EVEN W/O A/C ON (WORSE WHEN A/C ON). A/C COMPRESSOR WAS JUST REPLACED THIS SUMMER AND THE CONDITION WORSENED WHEN THE COMPRESSOR WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED SINCE FILING THE COMPLAINT, SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP AND HAD THE FUEL INDUCTION SERVICE DONE FOR $125.00. IT HAS BEEN 5 WEEKS AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT RETURNED. IT APPEARED THAT THE DIRTY FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM PREVENTED THE THROTTLE BODY FROM GETTING THE AIR IT NEEDED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. UPDATED IVOQ 09/13/10 *TR
SINCE 2007 WHEN I BOUGHT MY FORD FREESTYLE, I HAVE HAD IT INTO THE FORD DEALER NUMEROUS (APPROX 10) TIMES FOR INVESTIGATION OF THE LUNGING FORWARD ISSUES AS WELL AS SLOW THROTTLE RESPONSE AFTER LONG IDLE TIMES. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENT'S WHERE I HAVE ALMOST HIT PARKED CARS IN PARKING LOTS, STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION. EACH TIME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN THE COMMON RESPONSE WAS "WE DO NOT FIND A PROBLEM AT THIS TIME". IN THE SPRING OF 2009 IT WAS FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD AND WAS REPLACED IN LATE SUMMER 2009 AFTER WAITING 5 MONTHS FOR THE PART, DUE TO A NATIONAL BACK ORDER OF THE PART. PRIOR TO HAVING THE THROTTLE-BODY REPLACED, ONE OF THE TWO SCENARIOS WOULD HAPPEN 1-2 TIMES A WEEK AND MORE FREQUENT AT 3-5 TIMES PER WEEK JUST BEFORE THE THROTTLE-BODY WAS REPLACED. ON 7/24/2011 THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD ONCE AGAIN AND THEN ACCELERATED RAPIDLY FORCING ME TO PRESS THE BRAKE HARSHLY UNTIL I COULD GET THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND SHUT OFF. THIS INCIDENT ALMOST CAUSED MY TO CRASH INTO THE BACK END OF A SEMI-TRAILER BEFORE I COULD GET IT SHUT DOWN. AT THIS TIME I HAVE NOT SUFFERED ANY PERSONAL INJURY, BUT HAVE COME VERY CLOSE TO CAUSING DAMAGE TO OTHER'S PROPERTY (VEHICLES) DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH THE THROTTLE -BODY WAS REPLACED, THE ISSUE IS STILL PRESENT IN MY CASE AND I AM REQUESTING THAT FURTHER INVESTIGATION BE PERFORMED BEFORE SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH IS INCURRED. A GENERAL INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED MANY SIMILAR STORIES OF FORD FREESTYLE OWNERS WITH SIMILAR YEAR CARS WITH SIMILAR MILEAGE I SUGGEST AN INVESTIGATION BE CONDUCTED INTO WHY THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF THIS PART IE TO MANY SIMILAR MODEL CARS WITH FAULTY PARTS TO KEEP UP WITH DEMAND. I WAS TOLD THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDICATED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL ASSEMBLY MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE INSTALLATION WOULD COST ABOUT $700. THE PART WAS ORDERED IN LATE JULY. WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT THE CAR ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS CAR HAS DONE A SIMILAR THING SIX ADDITIONAL TIMES SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT. THINGS COMMON TO THE INCIDENTS WERE THAT THE ENGINE WAS AT IDLE SPEED OR JUST ABOVE, WARM OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WITH A/C ON, STEERING WHEEL BEING TURNED IN 6 OF 7 INCIDENTS. ELECTRONIC THROTTLE APPARENTLY RECEIVES SIGNAL TO APPLY TOO MUCH POWER. WAS TOLD AT DEALERSHIP THAT ADDING INJECTOR CLEANER WITH EACH TANK OF GAS MAY HELP, BUT IT HAS NOT. REPLACEMENT THROTTLE BODIES ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND HAVE A LEAD TIME OF MANY MONTHS. WILL A NEW REPLACEMENT BE A MODIFIED DESIGN? I'D TAKE A MECHANICAL THROTTLE BODY ANY DAY OVER THIS MESS. VEHICLE WOULD STALL WHEN IT CAME TO A STOP. FORD DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A "DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY" AND CHARGED $1200 FOR THE REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT. I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT FORD ACKNOWLEDGES THIS PROBLEM IS FREQUENT WITH THE 2007 FREESTYLE MODEL YEAR AND NOW PERFORMS A FREE THROTTLE BODY "CLEANING" TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED BUT THE PART NEEDED TO MAKE THE REPAIR WAS ON BACK ORDER. THE DEALER COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL FOR THE PART. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 70,000.
WE OWN A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. TWO WEEKS AGO, MY HUSBAND PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND THE ENGINE ACCELERATED. HE HAD HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE AT THE TIME. WE DROVE APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES TO OUR DESTINATION AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. WHEN WE RESTARTED IT TO LEAVE, THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS OFF AND THE VEHICLE DROVE NORMALLY ON THE DRIVE HOME (APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES). WE ONLY DROVE THE VEHICLE TWICE BETWEEN THAT TIME AND YESTERDAY, WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE AND THE ENGINE ACCELERATED EACH TIME I WOULD START TO EASE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES UNTIL I GOT OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. WHEN I PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE, THERE WERE NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. I HAVE NOT TAKEN VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS, BUT YESTERDAY I CALLED 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS TO SEE IF I COULD GET INFORMATION. BOTH OF THEM SAID THAT IT HAS THE SYMPTOMS OF A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE, AND THIS PART IS ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER! IF THAT IS THE CASE, THIS MUST BE A MASSIVE PROBLEM. WHEN THE FIRST BATCH OF THIS PART ARE RELEASED, THEY WILL GO TO CONSUMERS WHO HAVE ALREADY HAD THEIR VEHICLE INTO A DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT I LEAVE MY CAR AT A DEALERSHIP AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO TRY TO MAKE THE VEHICLE DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM TO GET AN ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS. LUNGING AND LURCHING AT LOW SPEEDS. DEALER DIAGNOSED AS THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY DEFECTIVE. REQUIRED $525 "PRE-PAYMENT" BEFORE ORDERING AND FORD CANNOT PROVIDE ETA. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY CONFIRMED THIS. THROTTLE BODY DEFECTS ARE A KNOWN PROBLEM...AND THEN WE ARE ASKED FOR PRE-PAYMENT FOR A PRODUCT WITH NO DELIVERY DATE. SOMETHING IS WRONG HERE.... *TR
AT VERY LOW SPEEDS THE VEHICLE WILL LUNGE IN BOTH DRIVE AND REVERSE. IT SEEMS TO MOSTLY DO THE LUNGING WHEN THE AIR CONDITION IS ON. AT TIME IT WILL LUNGE AND STALL, SO I WILL HAVE TO THEN SHUT OFF THE CAR, PUT IT IN PARK AND RE-START THE VEHICLE. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING THEN YOU ARE IN A DRIVE THRU AND THE LUNGING MAKES YOU FEAR YOU WILL HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. THIS PROBLEM STARTED OVER THE SUMMER OF 2010 AND AS OF APRIL OF 2011 HAS BECAME MUCH WORSE. I HAVE TO PARALLEL PARK MANY TIME A DAY AT MY JOB AND HOME, AND WITH THE LUNGING GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE I FEAR I WILL HIT SOMETHING OR WORSE A PERSON!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

I OWN A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE SEL AND THIS EVENT HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES WITHIN THE LAST YEAR. AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE AND TURNING ON THE AIR CONDITIONING, WHEN THE CAR IS SHIFTED FROM PARK TO EITHER REVERSE OR DRIVE, THE CAR'S ENGINE WILL SURGE AND IMMEDIATELY THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT AS WELL AS ANOTHER INDICATOR LIGHT WILL COME ON. THERE WERE TWO OCCASIONS WHERE MY WIFE TOLD ME THAT IF SHE HAD NOT HAD HER FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, SHE WOULD HAVE STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY THAT DID NOT HAPPEN. I'VE READ THAT THIS IS A PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE. I'VE ALSO READ THAT THE REPAIR FOR THIS IS QUITE EXPENSIVE. MY WIFE AND I BOTH LOVE THIS VEHICLE AND WISH TO KEEP IT. *TR
ABOUT 6 OR 7 TIMES OVER A 2 DAY PERIOD CAR UNEXPECTEDLY SURGED HARSHLY FORWARD WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 30-40 MPH. THEN SURGED VERY RAPIDLY ONE TIME WHEN BACKING UP AND STALLED WHEN BRAKES APPLIED HARD. "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON WITH STALL. WHEN CAR RESTARTED WRENCH LIGHT STAYED ON AND CAR HAD ALMOST NO POWER EVEN WITH GAS PEDAL TO FLOOR. CAR PARKED OVERNIGHT AND DROVE WELL IN AM WITHOUT WRENCH LIGHT. DEALERSHIP SAYS IT NEEDS A NEW THROTTLE BODY. PART ON BACK-ORDER BECAUSE OF HIGH DEMAND, EXPECTED TO TAKE APPROX. A MONTH TO GET PART. WILL NOT DRIVE VEHICLE UNTIL REPAIRED FOR FEAR SURGE WILL LEAD TO CRASH. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT DRIVER INTENT. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO ILLUMINATED WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A FORD DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR PART WAS ORDERED; HOWEVER, IT IS ON BACK ORDER. THE CONTACT PAID FOR THE PART AND THEY WILL NOTIFY THE CONTACT WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY WAS ALSO NOTIFIED BUT THEY STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. VEHICLE DID NOT SEEM TO SHIFT AS IT SHOULD. WOULD WANT TO SPEED UP ON ITS OWN OR CUT OFF. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE TRAVELING. HAD TRANSMISSION CHECKED AND IT WAS FINE. FOUND IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY, THE PART IS ORDERED AND HAS BEEN SEVERAL WEEKS. PERSONAL INVESTIGATION ON LINE INDICATES NUMEROUS OTHER OWNERS OF THE 2005 THROUGH 2010 MODEL HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AND HAD LONG DELAYS IN GETTING PARTS. MY CONCERN IS IT COULD SPEED UP ON ITS ONE AND CAUSE A WRECK OR CUT OFF. EITHER SITUATION COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS TO ME AS WELL AS OTHERS. *TR
WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW 8/18/07 FROM PALM COAST FORD. IN MAY OR JUNE 2010 I BEGAN NOTICING THE CAR LUNGING WHEN BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPOTS OR ONCE YOU HAVE BACKED OUT AND THEN PLACED INTO DRIVE. I ALSO ENCOUNTERED AN ISSUE WITH THE CAR STALLING IF PARKED ON AN INCLINE. ON 7.5.10 THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT FOR SEVERAL DAYS WITH PALM COAST FORD FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND THEY CLAIMED NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR AS THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE "ISSUES." AS THIS "ISSUE" DID NOT SEEM APPROPRIATE I VISITED THE DAYTONA BEACH FORD DEALERSHIP BUT THIS WAS NOT A DOCUMENTED VISIT AS WAS THE PALM COAST FORD VISIT. THE DAYTONA FORD SERVICE MANAGER INDICATED IT WAS A JUST THE WAY THE CAR WAS DESIGNED TO PREVENT STALLING WHEN BACKING UP OR PULLING FORWARD. SO I LIVED WITH THIS PROBLEM HOPING THAT IT WOULDN'T LUNGE AND HIT SOMEONE IN A PARKING LOT. MY BROTHER FINALLY RODE WITH ME AND SAID THIS IS NOT CORRECT SO I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A NON-FORD REPAIR SHOP WHO RECOMMENDED A TUNE-UP BE ACCOMPLISHED. THIS OCCURRED OCT. 25, 2011 AND CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, NOW WHATEVER THEY ACCOMPLISHED WITH THE TUNE-UP IS NOW WEARING OFF AS THE VEHICLE HAS BEGUN IT'S LUNGING PROBLEM AGAIN IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS. THAT'S WHEN I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THESE INCIDENT REPORTS SO I WANT TO REPORT MY PROBLEM TO HELP YOU DOCUMENT THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING GOING ON WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL CAR. I LIKE MY FREESTYLE BUT THERE'S DEFINITELY AN ISSUE WITH THE LUNGING SITUATION. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED WITH THE BRAKES ENGAGED, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS AS THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD MOMENTARILY BEFORE STALLING. UPON RESTART, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS NORMAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED MORE OFTEN WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE.
