VEHICLE SURGES WITHOUT HAVING FOOT ON ACCELERATOR. *TR
JULY 4 2010 CAR SUDDENLY LUNGED FORWARD AND THEN STOPPED. ABLE TO RESTART BUT COULD NOT GET ANY SPEED. ABLE TO GET TO FORD DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED TROTTLE BODY PROBLEM, WHICH COULD COST OER 700$. SPRAYED CARBON CLEANER IN WITH GAS, OK FOR A WHILE, BUT IT HAS HAPPED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE. IS THERE A RECALL. *TR
I DRIVE A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. THIS SUMMER IT STARTED TO HAVE PROBLEMS LURCHING FORWARD. SPECIFICALLY IF IN AREAS WHERE I WAS SITTING, LIKE AT A LIGHT, OR IN A PARKING STALL. AND MORE FREQUENTLY DURING REALLY HOT DAYS. AFTER THE WRENCH LIGHT WOULD COME ON. A FEW TIMES MY CAR STALLED AND I HAD TO WAIT TO START IT AGAIN. I HAD IT FIXED, UNDER WARRANTY, THANKFULLY AND THEY SAID IT WAS SENSOR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. BUT, I HAVE HEARD THAT THIS IS BECOMING A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND BECAUSE IT IS SUCH A SAFETY ISSUE I WANTED TO SEND MY COMPLAINT IN AS WELL. MY VEHICLE HAS 60,046 MILES ON IT. *TR
NOTICED MY 2007 FORD FREESTYLE "SURGE" WHILE BAKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. I STOPPED TO LET A CAR PASS AND THE CAR JUMPED OUT INTO THE STREET. IT DONE IT AGAIN LATER THAT DAY, BUT WENT MANY DAYS WITHOUT DOING IT AGAIN. THEN WE STARTED NOTICING IT WAS "SURGING" OR DOING AN ACCELERATION JUMP WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK, DRIVE, REVERSE, AND ANY OTHER TIME WE'RE HAVING TO HOLD THE BRAKE. OUR MECHANIC CHECKED IT OUT AND DIAGNOSED IT AS THE THROTTLE BOTTLE. CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT FORD WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, AND THAT THE REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE BEING REWORKED TO REMOVE THE FLAW AND ON BACKORDER. DEALER SAID THAT OWNERS WOULD RECEIVE A NOTICE WHEN THE NEW PARTS WERE AVAILABLE, BUT THAT FORD WAS NOT GOING TO ISSUE A RECALL AT THIS TIME. MY CAR HAD JUST ROLLED 50,000 MILES, IT NOW HAS NEARLY 60,000 AND I'VE NOT RECEIVED A NOTICE/CALL. I NEARLY HIT A CHILD CROSSING BETWEEN ME AND ANOTHER CAR IN THE SCHOOL PICK UP LINE BECAUSE THIS CAR SURGED (WHILE HOLDING THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY DOWN). WE ARE NOW HAVING A/C ISSUES AND IT IS "SURGING" MORE FREQUENTLY. AS IT'S BECOME TOO DANGEROUS AND COSTLY TO DRIVE, WE ARE CONSIDERING PARKING IT! FORD SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS FLAW BEFORE THERE IS A LOSS OF LIFE... *TR
WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE IN REVERSE, HAD FOOT LIGHTLY ON BRAKE AND CAR REVVED AND THEN LURCHED BACKWARD, HAD TO PUSH REALLY HARD ON BRAKE TO STOP. TRIED TO PULL BACK IN THE PARKING SPACE AND THE CAR STALLED, AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES LAST SUMMER, ONLY WHEN THE A/C WAS ON. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER, THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. IT HAS STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN THIS SUMMER WITH INCREASED FREQUENCY, AND I WAS VERY CLOSE TO BEING IN AN ACCIDENT TODAY BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE THIS CAR, AND I CERTAINLY DON'T WANT MY 16 YEAR OLD DRIVING THIS DANGEROUS CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS, THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHILE REVERSING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO VARIOUS AUTHORIZED DEALERS AND REPAIR SHOPS, WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 117,000. VF THE CONSUMER STATES THE AUTO LUNGES WITHOUT HER CONTROL. NOT LONG AFTER I PURCHASED THE 2007 FORD FREESTYLE, SUMMER CAME AND I WAS USING THE AIR CONDITIONER A LOT. I NOTICED THAT WHEN THE AC WAS RUNNING, ESPECIALLY AT HIGH, THE CAR WOULD "LURCH" FORWARD AT LOW SPEEDS (PROBABLY 5 MPH OR LESS ). WHEN I WAS PARKING THE CAR, ROLLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, WITH MY FOOT HOVERING OVER THE BRAKE PEDAL, AS SOON AS I GOT TO THE PROPER SPOT, THE CAR WOULD "LURCH". WHEN I WOULD BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPACE WITH MY FOOT HOVERING ABOVE THE BRAKE, IT WOULD "LURCH". THIS PROVED TO BE A SCARY SITUATION MANY TIMES AS THERE WERE CARS PASSING IN THE PARKING LOT. MANY TIMES, I COULD HAVE HIT ANOTHER CAR. EVEN IN THE DRIVE THROUGH OF FAST FOOD RESTAURANTS WITH OTHER CARS IN LINE, MANY TIMES I HAVE ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MANY TIMES, MY CAR HAS "LURCHED" AND STALLED. THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, AND IF I DON'T TURN THE CAR ALL THE WAY OFF IN PARK, THE CAR DOES NOT BEHAVE PROPERLY (AS IN NO ACCELERATION) NOR DOES THE WRENCH LIGHT GO OFF. IN THE BEGINNING, I THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER BEING ON HIGH. THE PROBLEM STOPPED IN THE WINTER WHEN THE AC WASN'T BEING USED. HOWEVER, IN THE SUMMER OF 2011, IT ALL STARTED AGAIN. MY AC WENT OUT, SO I HAD IT WORKED ON. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. TODAY, THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. I ALMOST HIT A CHILD IN A PARKING LOT THE OTHER DAY BECAUSE MY CAR "LURCHED". I BEGAN SEARCHING AND FOUND THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME SCARY PROBLEM WITH THEIR FORD FREESTYLES. IT SOUNDS AS IF I AM MAYBE LAZY OR NOT TOO CONCERNED SINCE I HAVEN'T HAD THIS CHECKED EARLIER, BUT FRANKLY, I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO SPEND ON REPAIRS, SO I KEEP HOPING IT WON'T CAUSE A DISASTROUS SITUATION. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE BEFORE IT DOES BECOME DEADLY. *TR
AT 36,000 MILES I BEGAN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATING AND LUNGING FORWARD IF THE CAR IS IN DRIVE OR BACKWARD IF THE CAR IS IN REVERSE. IT HAPPENED ONCE THEN. THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENED AT 39,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN OCCURRING REGULARLY EVER SINCE. NOW AT 40,000 MILES. THE ISSUE USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN THE AC IS RUNNING AND IT IS HOT OUTSIDE. I TOOK IT TO FORD DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AFTER KEEPING IT FOR 3 DAYS. THE SERVICE GUY SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE THROTTLE BOTTLE ISSUE THAT EVERYONE HAS BEEN HAVING. I'VE HAD SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE I WOULD BE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND NEARLY HIT A CAR PARKED IN FRONT OF ME. MOST RECENTLY IT HAPPENED WITH THE CAR IN REVERSE. THE MOTOR ACCELERATED MORE SO THAN EVER BEFORE. I HELD THE BRAKE AND THE CAR STALLED. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON. THE CAR HAD VERY LITTLE POWER WHILE THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON. FORD HAS NO REMEDY. THE PART IS UNAVAILABLE. AM I SUPPOSED TO DRIVE THIS CAR? WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT ACCELERATES AND HITS SOMEBODY. MY WIFE AND CHILDREN ARE DRIVING MY CAR UNTIL THIS IS RESOLVED. I WILL NOT PUT THEM IN HARMS WAY EVEN THOUGH FORD CLEARLY HAS. I EXPECT FORD TO RECALL AND REPLACE THIS PART IMMEDIATELY. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING LOW SPEEDS WHETHER IN REVERSE OR DRIVING FORWARD, HE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE ON ITS OWN OR THE RPMS WOULD INCREASE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. 2007 FORD FREESTYLE ----- I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE CAR SURGING AHEAD WHEN YOU SHIFT GEARS AND APPLY THE BRAKES. MANY OTHER CAR OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. AT MYCARSTATS.COM THERE ARE OVER 50 COMPLAINS ABOUT THE FREESTYLE AND I WOULD SAY AT LEAST 40 OF THEM RELATE TO THIS PROBLEM. THE OTHERS COMPLAINTS WERE MINOR, DOOR LATCHES ETC. IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS REALLY AN ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. APPARENTLY THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY THE THROTTLE BODY AND ACCORDING TO THE RESEARCH THE PART ALONE COST OVER $600. WHY HASN'T A RECALL BEEN MADE ON THIS PART. TOYOTA WAS JUST FINED OVER $16 MILLION FOR NOT REPORTING THEIR PROBLEM YOUR AGENCY SOON ENOUGH. ACCORDING TO THE REPORTS I READ ON-LINE THIS INFORMATION HAS BEEN REPORTED TO YOUR AGENCY FOR SOME TIME NOW. IS ANYTHING GOING TO BE DONE ABOUT IT? VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
2007 FORD FREESTYLE WILL UNEXPECTEDLY SURGE AND THEN SHUT OFF. THE SURGE HAS CAUSE ME TO HIT A PARKING SIGN AND ALMOST STRIKE SEVERAL OTHER CARS. HAD IT BACK TO THE FORD DEALER 2 TIMES SO FAR. THE FIRST TIME WAS TOLD THE AIR FILTER WAS WRONG AND CHARGED ME $116.00. SECOND TIME I MENTIONED I HAD FOUND LOTS OF PROBLEMS ONLINE INVOLVING THE THROTTLE BODY ON THIS VEHICLE. RECEIVED A CALL THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS INDEED THE PROBLEM BUT NONE ARE AVAILABLE FOR AT LEAST A MONTH. THEY CLEANED MINE AND SAID KEEP DRIVING. THIS SURGE HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES INTHE LAST WEEK. *TR
WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN DRIVE OR REVERSE AND SOMETIMES WHILE IDLE IT WILL ACCELERATE HIGHLY WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL AND IF I DON'T HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE IT WILL JUST TAKE OFF. IT WILL THEN TRY TO GO FORWARD OR BACKWARD AND SOMETIMES GOES DEAD AND WONT LET ME RE-CRANK IT FOR A FEW MINUTES. IT STARTED OUT DOING THIS EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. NOW IT DOES IT ALL THE TIME. IF IM NOT CAREFUL IM AFRAID IT WILL RAM INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE OR EVEN PERSON IF IM IN A PARKING LOT. THIS STARTED APPROX A YEAR AGO OFF AND ON AND RECENTLY STARTED DOING IT ENOUGH FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO GET IT LOOKED AT. FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS ITS THE THROTTLE BODY. I SEE THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL VEHICLE TYPES WITH THE SAME THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM, THERE STILL HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL AND IT CAN BE DANGEROUS. AFTER PURCHASING A BRAND NEW VEHICLE YOU WOULD THINK THE PARTS WOULD BE OF TOP QUALITY AND NOT BREAK AFTER JUST A FEW YEARS ESPECIALLY THE THROTTLE BODY. THE THROTTLE BODY IS ONE OF THE MAIN PARTS OF THE POWERTRAIN. *TR

CAR SURGES UPON LEAVING A PARKING SPACE WHEN IN REVERSE EVEN WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED MAKING IT VERY UNSAFE IF SOMEONE HAPPENS TO BE WALKING BEHIND THE CAR. CAR SURGES/LURCHES AT VERY LOW SPEEDS WHETHER BRAKE IS APPLIED OR NOT. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY IN WARM WEATHER.

6-22-2010, VEHICLE BEGAN SURGING AND WOULD LUNGE FORWARD AT IDLE SPEED WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. WRENCH LIGHT ON DASH IS ON AND VEHICLE CONTINUES TO DO THIS IN DRIVE AND REVERSE. TOOK TO SERVICE DEPARTMENT 6-23-2010 TO HAVE CHECKED. WAS INFORMED PROBLEM WAS THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. PART IS ON BACK ORDER DUE TO MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THIS SAME PART. COST IS EST. $800 REPAIR. AM NOW HAVING TO DRIVE A VEHICLE I NO LONGER CONSIDER SAFE UNTIL PART IS AVAILABLE OR PROBLEM IS TAKEN CARE OF BY MANUFACTURE. MULTIPLE SEARCHES ONLINE FOUND THAT THIS IS A GROWING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND NO REPORTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO DATE BY MANUFACTURER TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE IS A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. *TR
I WAS BACKING MY WIFE'S CAR IN AND IT STARTED ACCELERATING WITHOUT ME PRESSING THE GAS, ACTUALLY MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE THANK GOODNESS. WE PROMPTLY TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY, AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND OF COURSE IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THEN THEY CHARGED ME $900 TO FIX IT.I HAVE SINCE DONE LOTS OF RESEARCH ONLINE AS WELL AS IN PERSON AND HAVE COME TO THE REALIZATION THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF THIS SAME COMPLAINT FOR THE 2005-2007 FORD FREESTYLE. I HAVE ALSO FOUND THAT ALMOST EVERYONE WHO HAS HAD A FAILED THROTTLE BODY HAS HAD MULTIPLE FAILED THROTTLE BODY'S AS WELL AS A/C COMPRESSOR FAILURE. *TR

WE ARE AT THE MERCY OF FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND NO-ONE SEEMS CONCERNED ENOUGH TO FORCE FORD INTO PLACING A RECALL ON THESE CARS FOR THIS ISSUE. I HAVE A FRIEND THAT ALSO HAS A FORD FREESTYLE AND IT JUST COST HIM $900 OUT OF POCKET FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A TREMENDOUS SAFETY ISSUE. AT WHAT POINT DOES THE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ADMINISTRATION STAND UP FOR THE CONSUMER AND FORCE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND FIX THEIR MISTAKES? IT'S JUST VERY UNSETTLING THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY CAN SELL THESE DEFECTIVE VEHICLES AND GET AWAY WITH NOT BEING HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PRODUCT THEY ARE PUTTING ON THE MARKET. *TR
VEHICLE ACCELERATES 300-400 RPM AFTER TAKING FOOT OFF BRAKE IN FORWARD AND REVERSE. HAPPENS 70% OF THE TIME. CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY IF THE CIRCUMSTANCES WERE RIGHT IE, SOMEONE BEHIND THE CAR COULD BE INJURED. DEALER INDICATED TRANS HAS DELAYED ENGAGEMENT AND IN FAIL MODE, HAD CODE U0401 EEC TEST PINPOINT TEST FOUND PCM POWER RELAY MAKING BAD CONNECTION, CORRECT CONDITION CLEAR CODE ROADTEST. STILL DOES THE SAME THING BUT NOW WORSE HAPPENS MORE OFTEN. *TR

THE FORD DEALER'S MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE FAILURE. JUST A COUPLE OF SECONDS AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE IN GEAR, YOU FEEL A SUDDEN LUNGE BUT SINCE YOUR FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE, IT IS EASILY CONTROLLED AND THE SURGE IN RPMS IS VERY BRIEF (LESS THAN TWO SECONDS). THIS OCCURS ON A REGULAR BASIS AND IS TYPICALLY NOTICED WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE WHEN THE ENGINE IS IDLING AND JUST AFTER BEING PLACED INTO GEAR. THE VEHICLE "REVS" THE ENGINE FOR SAY 1 SECOND WHEN SHIFTING FROM "P" TO "R" OR "F" ONCE EVERY 10 VEHICLE STARTS AND DOES SEEM TO OCCUR MAINLY WHEN THE AC IS ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL SLIGHTLY TURNED. TODAY, 12 JULY 2011 THE VEHICLE "REV'D" UP AFTER PICKING UP OUR KIDS AT BIBLE CAMP AND ONCE UNDER WAY THE VEHICLE DID BEGIN TO DIE IN THE PARKING LOT - HOWEVER THE COMPUTER MUST HAVE DETECTED A PROBLEM AND SEEMED TO RESTORE OPERATIONS ALONG WITH THE "WRENCH" LIGHT TURNED ON. AFTER PULLING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, WE EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE LAST SUMMER. WHILE THE "WRENCH" IS ON THE VEHICLE WOULD ALLOW ACCELERATION TO APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES AN HOUR WITH THE THROTTLE PRESSED TO THE FLOOR WHICH IS NOT NORMAL. THE CAR SEEMS FINE AGAIN NOW THAT IT HAS BEEN RESTARTED. I'M NOT CERTAIN THE "WRENCH" AND THE ALMOST DAILY ENGINE "REV" FOR A SECOND ARE CONNECTED. THE ENGINE "REV" SEEMS FINE AS LONG AS YOU HAVE YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I'M WORRIED ABOUT THE LIMITED ACCELERATION/"WRENCH" THAT HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES NOW IN THE PAST 14 MONTHS SINCE THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE OF AN ACCIDENT WHEN PULLING OUT INTO A HIGHWAY WHEN YOU EXPECT THE CAR TO MOVE AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ALLOW NORMAL ACCELERATION. LAST YEAR WHEN THE "WRENCH" CAME ON - A FORD DEALER INDICATED THAT THE SYSTEM DID NOT RECORD AN EVENT AND THUS UNABLE TO ASSIST WITH RESOLVING THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP AGAIN TOMORROW, 13 JULY 2011, TO FIND OUT IF THIS OCCURRENCE WAS CAPTURED BY THE COMPUTER/MONITORING SYSTEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 96,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

ALSO, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER; HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. A PRIVATE MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY AND THAT HE SHOULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR CONFIRMATION. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,773. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
VEHICLE A "SURGING" AT LOW SPEEDS. ESPECIALLY BAD AND DANGEROUS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PARALLEL PARK. REQUIRES FOOT ON BRAKE DURING PARKING, AND EXTREME CAUTION. VEHICLE "SURGES" IN BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE GEARS. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY THERE WAS NO POWER AND IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE TO REACH HIGHWAY CRUISING SPEED. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AT CUSTOMER'S EXPENSE BY THE FORD DEALER. THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE IS NOW 78,234 AND THE SAME PROBLEM IS OCCURRING. *TR
