UNKNOWN REASON: ON DEC.28 2016 I@ 1535 I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE #30 IN ARKANSAS. I WAS DRIVING @ A SPEED OF 70 MPH WHEN ALL THE POWER WENT OFF IN MY CAR. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN ON FLASHERS OR RESTART CAR. BEHIND ME WAS A 18 WHEELER AND ON MY RIGHT SIDE WAS A CAR. I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO LOSE SPEED. IT JUST SO HAPPENED THAT THE OTHER DRIVERS NOTICED I WAS IN TROUBLE. BOTH DRIVERS PUT THEIR HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND SLOWED TRAFFIC ENABLING ME TO STEER THE CAR ( WITH NO POWER) TO THE SHOULDER. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK TURNED THE RADIO AND HEATER OFF AND TRIED TO RESTART IT. IT DID RESTART BUT I LEFT THE RADIO AND HEATER OFF. I WAS 34.1 MI FROM HOME. I PRAYED ALL THE WAY HOME AND DID NOT DRIVE OVER 60 MPH.( I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED !!!). WHEN I FINALLY ARRIVED AT HOME, I PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND THE CAR TURNED ITSELF OFF. THE CAR KEYS WERE STILL IN THE ON POSITION! I HAVE CHECKED THE FORD WEBSITE ONLINE,NHTSA WEBSITE, CALLED THE CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER @ 1-866-436-7332 AND RISER FORD LINCOLN IN HOT SPRINGS, ARK @ 1 -888 -547 -3820 ( THIS IS WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR) TRYING TO FIND RECALL NOTICES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE APPROACHING A STOP, THE VEHICLE SURGED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS BEING DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED RANDOMLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD REACHED THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY AND NO ASSISTANCE WOULD BE PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 169,000.
VEHICLE ACCELERATES (SURGES) WHEN STOPPED, ESPECIALLY WHEN PARKING OR REVERSING.
OUR 2007 FORD FREESTYLE IS LUNGING WHEN IT IS IDLING OR AT LOW SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS HAPPENS IN FORWARD AND REVERSE. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING INCREASINGLY FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS. THERE HAS NOT BEEN AN ACCIDENT YET, BUT SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS. IT IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND NOT ALWAYS PREDICTABLE. WE ARE VERY CAUTIOUS WHERE WE PARK AND TRY TO AVOID PARKING NEXT TO CARS(NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE) AND ESPECIALLY EXPENSIVE VEHICLES BECAUSE IT IS LIKELY THIS WILL CAUSE US TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AT SOME POINT.

HAVING VEHICLE SURGING AND STALLING WHEN DECREASE SPEED - FOUND YOUR ACTION NUMBER PE11018 THAT DESCRIBES MY ISSUE. NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD SENT IN 2012 THAT ISSUES A FREE FIX FOR THIS. WE HAVE BEEN AT CURRENT ADDRESS 20+ YEARS. FIX IS TO 150K MILES AND WE ARE AT 156K - FORD IS REFUSING TO FIX. PLEASE HELP AS IT IS A DANGER TO MY FAMILY TO BE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND I WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN ABOUT THE "RECALL" IF NOT FOR A FORD FORUM WHEN I WAS RESEARCHING THE ISSUE.

FROM THE 1ST DAY I LEASED THE VEHICLE FROM PROGRESSIVE AUTO, I COULD HEAR IT RAVING HIGH, STEERING WHEEL REALLY HEAVY, BRAKES SEEMED STRANGE AND HEAVY TO MOVE. BUT THE SALES MAN KEPT TELLING AND SHOWING ME A REPORT THAT THE VEHICLE IS FINE, AND KEPT SAYING, ITS THE TYPE OF ENGINE IN THE VEHICLE (CVT) THAT'S WHY IT ALL SEEMS STRANGE. I KEPT GOING BACK TO THEM ADVISING THEM THAT I KNOW SOMETHING IS WRONG, BUT THEY KEPT SAYING THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. FINALLY I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, AND THEY ADVISED ME IT WAS A TRANSMISSION, BRAKES AND SUSPENSION PROBLEM. AND THIS WAS NOT EVEN 2 MONTHS DOWN THE ROAD. I WAS VERY UPSET AND WANTED TO RETURN THE VEHICLE. SO THEY DECIDED TO CLAIM TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION BY INSTALLING A USED ONE. I HAD TO GET THE OTHER THINGS FIXED MYSELF. NOT EVEN A YEAR AND SOME LATER, I HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN. BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY DIED, AS I WAS DRIVING IT STARTED TO STALL TO A POINT I ALMOST GOT INTO A CAR ACCIDENT WITH KIDS IN THE BACK, AS THE CAR KEPT JERKING AND I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING.THIS WAS THE WORST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER PURCHASED IN MY LIFE TIME. AND THE BEST PART, IS ONE ONE WANTS TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE THAT SEEMS TO BE VERY VERY COMMON. I WISH THE PROBLEMS WERE EASILY DIAGNOSED WHEN FIRST HAPPENING, AND IT WOULD HAVE SAVED ME ALOT OF HEADACHES. I AM USUALLY A IMPORT VEHICLE INDIVIDUAL, BUT I CHOOSE FORD AS I HEARD GREAT THINGS ABOUT THEM. BUT NOW I WILL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN AS IT HAS BEEN THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD. I NEED OVER $3000 TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION AND THE VEHICLE IS NOT EVEN WORTH THAT MUCH!
MY 2007 FORD FREESTYLE CUTS OFF REPEATEDLY AFTER ALMOST EVERY RED LIGHT STOP. I SAW A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS MATTER WITH DIFFERENT FORD FREESTYLES AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW THE CAUSE. MAINLY ANYTIME I APPLY THE BRAKES THE CUT SHUTS OFF AND PUTS MYSELF AND FAMILY IN LIFE- THREATENING SITUATIONS. ALSO, THE VEHICLE IDLES HIGH WHILE MY FEET ON ON THE BREAKS.
I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PASS A SLOW TRUCK ON A TWO LANE ROAD. AS ACCELERATED AND PULL ALONGSIDE THE TRUCK THE CTV TRANSMISSION FAILED AND THE ENGINE RACED. I WAS ABLE TO GET AROUND THE TRUCK AND GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I CALL A TOW TRUCK AND MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP FOR 8 WEEKS. I AM CONCERNED REGARDING HEAD ON COLLISIONS THAT MAY HAVE NOT BEEN REPORTED AS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. IF A CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN APPROACHING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION I WOULD HAVE SUFFERED A HEAD ON COLLISION.
I HAD BOUGHT A USED FORD FREESTYLE 2007 FOR A LITTLE OVER $6,000.00 WITH 102,000 MILES ON IT AND AFTER ALMOST EXACTLY A YEAR LATER, I WAS GOING TO TAKE OFF FROM A STOP SIGN NEAR MY HOUSE AND WITHOUT EVEN REACHING 30 MILES PER HOUR THE SUV MADE A LOUD WINDING SOUND AND THE CVT TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND THE TRANSMISSION ICON ON THE DASH POPPED ON. I TRIED TO ROLL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT ENDED UP STUCK IN THE MIDDLE. I TRIED SHUTTING DOWN THE WHOLE CAR AND TURNING IT BACK ON WITH NO LUCK. LUCKILY FAMILY LIVED NEAR BY AND THEY HELPED ME BY PULLING IT WITH A ROPE HOME. WE HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND THE TRANSMISSION IS BAD NOW TO GET IT FIXED WOULD COST $5,000+ PRETTY MUCH TOTALING THE SUV UNFORTUNATELY WE HAVE NO INSURANCE AND WE ARE LEFT WITH A $6,000.00 LEMON IN OUR DRIVEWAY THANKS FORD. WHEN LOOKING UP TO SEE IF OTHER PEOPLE HAD THE PROBLEM WE DID WE WERE SHOCKED THAT THE 2005-2007 FORD FREESTYLES HAVE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME THING AND NO RECALL WHAT IS GOING ON THEY SHOULD EITHER RECALL THE CVT TRANSMISSION OR TAKE THE SUV OFF THE MARKET. FAMILY'S WITH MORE THAN THREE KIDS ARE GOING TO BE IN THE MARKET FOR THOSE CARS AND TO COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING IS VERY DANGEROUS. LUCKILY I WAS NEAR HOME IN THE SUMMER MONTHS BUT WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR. WHAT IF IT WAS THE DEAD OF WINTER I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND HAD ALL MY CHILDREN WITH AND IT WAS BAD TRAFFIC EVERYONE IN THE CAR WOULD MOST LIKELY DIE. PLEASE GET THE RECALL FOR THIS WORTHLESS CVT TRANSMISSION.

THE FRONT PASSENGER STRETCHED HIS LEGS AND MANAGED TO KICK THE EXPOSED FUEL SHUT OFF SWITCH UNDER THE GLOVE BOX AND ABOVE THE RIGHT SIDE KICK PANEL WHICH DISABLED THE CAR TRAFFIC AND IT WOULD NOT RESTART. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO COAST OF THE ROAD AND WAS PICKED UP BY AAA. HAVE THERE BEEN ANY OTHER REPORTS OF THIS EVENT. THE CAR WAS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF AN INTERSTATE. HAD IT BEEN IN THE LEFT LANE THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. DO YOU HAVE ANY REPORTS OF SUCH AN EVENT. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE ANY AT THIS POINT.

THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL; HOWEVER, THE REMEDY FAILED TO PREVENT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 102,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING AT A STEADY SPEED ON A SLIGHTLY HILLY ROAD WHEN THE YELLOW TOOL INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND IT APPEAR THAT THE TRANSMISSION LOST ITS CONNECTION. THE ENGINE STAYED AROUND 2000 RPM THEN DRIFTED DOWN AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL CHANGES. VEHICAL TOWED TO SHOP AND LEFT IT THERE.

FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION ON SUB FRAME. ENGINE LIGHT ON CONSISTENT WITH RECENT RECALL OF FORD EDGE DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION. CAR HAS ONLY 72,703 MILES AND IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. OTHER FREESTYLE OWNERS HAVE NOTED SIMILAR DANGEROUS CORROSION ON SUB FRAME DUE TO "SUBSTANDARD STEEL AND ALLOYS."
UNABLE TO START CAR IMMEDIATELY AFTER FILLING GAS TANK. ALSO, UPON STOPPING AT LIGHT OR TURNING A CORNER IT FEELS LIKE THE GAS IS NOT GOING TO THE ENGINE AND I AM UNABLE TO MOVE FORWARD. THIS FORCES ME TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.. AT THE TIME I HAD THE AIR CONDITIONER ON AND NOW AM TOLD THE COMPRESSOR IS BAD. THERE IS LOUD CLICKING (LIKE THE COMPUTER IS 'THINKING') COMING FROM UNDER THE DASH.

THE CVT TRANSMISSION IN THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE. NOT SURE WHY THERE HASN'T BEEN AN INVESTIGATION AS OF YET. MY CAR STARTED OUT MAKING A HUMMING SOUND AND NOW HAS PROGRESSED TO THE POINT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. AFTER LENGTHY RESEARCH ONLINE I HAVE FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AS WELL AS IN OTHER FORD VEHICLES. I HAVE READ OF FAILURES IN THESE TYPES OF TRANSMISSION AS EARLY AS 15,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM INCLUDING THE FACT THAT THERE IS A CLASS ACTION SUIT ON THIS MATTER WHICH AS FAR AS I KNOW IS STILL PENDING. APPARENTLY FORD HAS KNOWN OF THE PROBLEM, HENCE THEY STOPPED USING AND MANUFACTURING THIS TRANSMISSION MAKING THE PARTS TO REPAIR THIS TRANSMISSION OUTRAGEOUSLY PRICED. SO NOT ONLY IS FORD PROFITING FROM THE SALE OF THESE VEHICLES, NOW THEY ARE PROFITING FROM THE SALE OF THE PARTS AS WELL.NOW I HAVE MY VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR FOR AN OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE. FAILURE CAN COME AT ANY TIME UNDER ANY SITUATION WITHOUT WARNING. THIS VEHICLE CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR EVEN WORSE BODILY HARM OR EVEN DEATH WHEN THIS TRANSMISSION FAILS COMPLETELY. I AM QUITE SURE BY THE SHEAR NUMBERS OF COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ THAT SOMEONE HAS CONTACTED YOU IN REGARDS TO THIS PRODUCT. IF NOT I AM. PLEASE HELP THE SMALL GUY OUT.
I AM HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION IN MY CAR WHEN I PUT IT IN GEAR IT LUNGES ALMOST OVER POWERING THE BREAKS. IT ALSO WILL STALL IF I HAVE TO HIT THE BREAKS HARD TO COME TO A STOP REAL FAST. I WILL BE GETTING IN THE HIGHWAY AND EVERY SO OFTEN IT WILL NOT SHIFT IT JUST RUNS AT REALLY HIGH RPM. IT WILL ALSO LOOSE POWER SUDDENLY AND A WRENCH LIGHT WILL COME ON THAT LIMITS ME TO 2000 RPM AND I HAVE HAD TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY MANY TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS. I HAVE BEEN DOING SOME RESEARCH AND I HAVE COME TO FIND OUT THAT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD SOME OF THESE SAME PROBLEMS AND FORD WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THEM. I FEEL UNSAFE WHILE DRIVING MY CAR BUT IT IS MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION AT THE TIME SO I HAVE NO OTHER OPTION IS HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH MY AWD AND I FEEL IT CAN'T WORK BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS OF MY TRANSMISSIO .

PUT CAR IN DRIVE STARTED DOWN THE STREET WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRANSMISSION STARTED MAKING NOISE AND THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN. I PULLED OVER AND PARKED THE CAR THEN TURNED IT OFF, TRY TO START IT BACK UP BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN PUT IN DRIVE. IT WOULD REVERSE BUT IT WOULD NOT GO FORWARD. HAD TO CALL FRO A TOW TRUCK AND HAVE VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. THE FOLLOWING CODES SHOWED UP WHEN THE REPAIR SHOP CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION: PO 218, PO 701, PO868, PO871, PO961. [XXX] DECEMBER 2, 2014 2007 FORD FREESTYLE SEL FWD ' 89,800 MILES VERY GOOD CONDITION- ORIGINAL OWNER ON NOVEMBER 26, 2014 OWNER EXPERIENCED PROBLEM WITH PASSENGER REAR WHEEL. WHEEL WAS SWAYING IN AN OUTWARD DIRECTION ON THE BASE OF THE WHEEL AND DRIVER WAS NOT ABLE TO CONTROL THE AUTOMOBILE. UPON INSPECTION AT METRO FORD SALES (WHERE AUTOMOBILE WAS PURCHASED) ON DECEMBER 2, 2014 IT WAS FOUND THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION SUB-FRAME HAD FAILED THROUGH EXTENSIVE RUST. THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BRACKET HAD BROKEN FREE OF THE ACTUAL SUSPENSION SUB-FRAME BODY. THIS ALLOWED THE BASE OF THE WHEEL SYSTEM TO PROJECT IN AN OUTWARD DIRECTION AND CAUSED THE LOSS OF CONTROL AND TRACTION. THE MAINTENANCE PERSONAL DETERMINED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO REPAIR THE SUB-FRAME ASSEMBLY. THE CORRECTIVE ACTION WOULD BE THE REMOVAL OF THE SUB-FRAME ASSEMBLY AND THE REPLACEMENT WITH A SERVICEABLE ASSEMBLY. THERE IS NO DOUBT IN THE MINDS OF THE SERVICE PERSONAL THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS EXTENSIVE AND UNUSUAL RUST.
