THE PUSH BUTTON ON THE GEAR SHIFT WILL NOT FULLY COME OUT, THUS ALLOWING SHIFTING WITHOUT THE NEED TO DEPRESS THE BUTTON. THIS ISSUE HAS ALSO RESULTING IN NOT BEING ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY. SINCE THE LOCKING/UNLOCKING REMOTE IS INTEGRATED INTO THE KEY ITSELF, I CANNOT LOCK THE CAR WITHOUT THE SECOND KEY. NOT ONLY IS LEAVING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AKIN TO GIFT WRAPPING THE CAR FOR THIEVES, THE SHIFTING ISSUE IS ABSOLUTELY A SAFETY CONCERN! I SEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND IT APPEARS VERY COMMON, SO MUCH SO THAT A TSB HAS BEEN ISSUED. FORD NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THIS ISSUE. *TR
2006 FORD FUSION. CONSUMER STATES TRANSMISSION HAS SLIPPED *TGW THE CONSUMER SENT IN A TSB THAT WAS ISSUED REGARDING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ON CERTAIN VEHICLES.. *JB
EVENTS LEADING: NORMAL DRIVING OPERATION. FAILURE:TRANSMISSION SLIPS AFTER REACHING 35 MPH+, OCCURS ANYTIME I AM ON THE HIGHWAY GOING UPHILL OR TRYING TO PASS. HAVE SEEN MANY FORUMS WITH OTHERS THAT ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES. CAUSES MY CAR TO SLIP OUT OF GEAR UNTIL I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR OR CAUSES A VERY HARD SHIFT CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO BANG REALLY LOUD. WHAT HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX: NOTHING CURRENTLY, HAVE ONLY DONE RESEARCH INTO THE ISSUE AND FOUND MANY FORUMS WITH INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES AND HAVE HAD THEIR VEHICLES IN TO THE DEALER ONLY TO HAVE THEIR CAR WORKED ON AND STILL HAVE PROBLEMS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTERIOR FRONT AND REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLES HAD FRACTURED. IN ORDER FOR PASSENGERS TO EXIT THE VEHICLE, THE WINDOW WOULD HAVE TO BE OPENED AND THE CONTACT OR PASSENGER WOULD HAVE TO PUT THEIR ARM THROUGH THE WINDOW AND OPEN THE DOOR USING THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. THE MANUFACTURER AND AUTHORIZED DEALER WERE NOTIFIED WHICH THEY INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NOT A SAFETY RELATED RECALL AND WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT HAD SIGNIFICANT CONCERN OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
WHEN DRIVING CAR 25 MILES PER HOUR THE CAR STOPS JERKS DECELERATES THE EVENTUALLY KICKS BACK UP SOME TIMES IT DOES IT WITH NORMAL SPEED . WHICH HAS ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS WHEN CAR SUDDENLY DECELERATES STOPS IN THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC THEN HAVING TO WAIT TILL IT KICKS BACK UP OR JUST TRY TO PULL OFF ROAD TO KEEP FROM GETTING HIT VERY SCARY WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY OF IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC! OR PUTTING ON FLASHERS AT THE LAST MINUTE HOPING NOT TO GET HIT! *KB
HIGHWAY OR REGULAR ROAD DRIVING TRANSMISSION GIVES OUT. THE TRANSMISSION RED LINES AND THE CAR FAILS TO RESPOND MOSTLY ON SLIGHT TO MODERATE INCLINES. YOU MUST LET UP OFF THE GAS AND ALLOW THE RPMS TO DROP TO NORMAL AND ALLOW FOR THE CAR TO CHANGE GEARS. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS NO ISSUES BUT THEY DO HAVE A TSB ON THE PROBLEM BUT CLAIM THAT CUSTOMER NEEDS TO PAY $2500 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
MILLAGE AND DATE ARE APPROXIMATE BUT VERY CLOSE. THE DRIVERS DOOR INSIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE, THIS FAILURE MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE CAR DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. I HAVE PICTURES DOCUMENTING THE FAILURE WHICH SHOW THE LOCATION OF THE FAILURE. THIS COULD BECOME VERY DANGEROUS IF THE HANDLE BROKE IN A SITUATION WHERE AN EMERGENCY EXIT WAS NEEDED. I HAVE CALLED FORD AND REGISTERED A COMPLAINT WITH THEM ABOUT THIS, I HAVE ALSO DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FROM TALKING TO MY LOCAL DEALER I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS AN ENTIRELY ALL TO COMMON OCCURRENCE. I AM JUST NOW GETTING AROUND TO FIXING THIS BECAUSE THE DOOR LATCH HAS NOW STOPPED WORKING (2/13/2011, ~38.000MI), I AM ASSUMING THE FAILURE OF THE DOOR LATCH IS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE BROKEN INTERIOR HANDLE AND LETTING IT GO WITHOUT BEING REPAIRED.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SLIPS OUT OF GEAR WHEN GOING UP A HILL OR WHEN PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CAR MAKE A ROUGH NOISE AND YOU HAVE TO BRAKE IN ORDER TO GET THE CAR TO CHANGE GEARS. WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET AT 65 MPH THE CAR APPROACHED A SMALL HILL AND THE GEAR WOULD NOT CHANGE AND MADE A AWFUL NOISE. I TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND IT REVEALED THAT I NEED A TRANSMISSION. THE COST WAS QUOTED AT 4900.00. THIS STARTED APPROX 2 MONTHS AGO AND IS STILL HAPPENING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FUSION. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY. THE KEY WOULD NOT RELEASE AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN WAS REMOVED TO ASSIST WITH THE REMOVAL OF THE IGNITION KEY. HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN EVEN THOUGH THE IGNITION KEY WAS NOT REMOVED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 68,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
RIGHT FRONT SIDE TURN SIGNAL LIGHT FAILED INSPECTION REPLACED BULB AND ELECTRICAL HARNESS, STILL NO POWER. DIAGNOSED AS DEFECTIVE SMART BOX FORD ESTIMATES IT AT $800 TO REPLACE. *TR 4 YEAR OLD FORD FUSION (SUMMER 2006)
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED AND DOWNSHIFTING, THE VEHICLE WOULD BEGIN TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.

TRANSMISSION FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AT 67,000 MILES UPON ENTERING HIGHWAY WHERE ACCELERATION IS REQUIRED. UNABLE TO GET TO SPEED CONSISTENT WITH HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. AUTOMOBILE IS FORD FUSION, 2006. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FUSION. ON JUNE 4, 2010, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE TURNED ON THE VEHICLE, THE RPMS INCREASED RAPIDLY. THE RPMS INCREASED TO 3,500 WHEN IT WAS NORMALLY ON 900. THE VEHICLE BEHAVED THAT WAY FOR ABOUT SIXTEEN MILES SO THE CONTACT PARKED IT AND LET IT SIT FOR TWO HOURS. WHEN HE RESTARTED IT, THE VEHICLE BEHAVED NORMAL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 27,635.
TRANSMISSION SLIPS IN AND OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THESE ARE VERY HARD GEAR SHIFTS AND THE ENTIRE CAR SHAKES. SOMETIMES IT WON'T GO INTO ANY GEAR AT ALL, INCLUDING REVERSE. THE CAR HAS UNUSUALLY HIGH RPM DURING SOME GEAR SHIFTS...PARTICULARLY WHEN SHIFTING GETS "STUCK" BETWEEN 4TH & 5TH GEARS. MY CAR WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION FROZE AND WOULDN'T SHIFT GEARS. THE CAR CANNOT ACCELERATE AT A NORMAL SPEED ANYMORE WHICH DOESN'T ALLOW FOR NORMAL HIGHWAY DRIVING, AND IS DANGEROUS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING GEARS OR STICKING IN A GEAR. *TR
BOUGHT A USED 2006 FUSION 6 MONTHS AGO, AND THE SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) APPARENTLY SHORTED OUT. IT HAPPENED RIGHT AFTER IT RAINED, AND WAS ACTING UP A COUPLE MONTHS AGO AFTER HEAVY RAIN AS WELL, LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THAT THERE IS MOISTURE GETTING TO IT SOMEHOW. REPLACEMENT WOULD COST OVER 600$ AND IF THERE WAS MOISTURE GETTING TO THE ORIGINAL ONE, HOW LONG WILL THE NEW ONE TAKE TO HAVE THE SAME THING HAPPEN, ANOTHER 4 YEARS? *TR
2006 FORD FUSION. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY. MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THERE WERE TSB'S OUT FOR THIS ISSUE. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER PAYING $3,408.45 FOR THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION, A FEW WEEKS LATER SHE STARTED HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY CONCLUDED A DEFECTIVE VALVE BODY WAS INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE DURING A PREVIOUS VISIT. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE CAUSED ANOTHER VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BOTH THE DEALER AND A PRIVATE REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE REPAIR SHOP CONFIRMED THAT THE THROTTLE MALFUNCTIONED AND A CALIBRATION WAS NEEDED FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SOFTWARE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000. KMJ
THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND JERKS WHILE DRIVING. I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW AND HAVE BEEN KEEPING UP WITH MAINTENANCE RELIGIOUSLY. *KB
TAKATA RECALL. MY BLINKERS ALL WOULD NOT GO OFF. I WAS TOLD IT THE RELAY IS STICKING IN THE RELAY BOX. TO FIX IT WITH LABOR AND ALL WAS 1400.00. I WAS UNABLE TO PAY TO GET IT FIX. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH NO BLINKERS, WHICH IS VERY UNSAFE. IT AFFECTS MY COMMUTE EVERY DAY. I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF IT.
DOOR HANDLE ON INSIDE PASSENGER BACK DOOR IS CRACKED. THE HANDLE WAS PULLED ON TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WITH NO EXCESSIVE FORCE AND THE HANDLE CRACKED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. HE HAD TO USE THE SPARE KEY TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOORS. SINCE THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION HE LEFT IT THERE. EVENTUALLY THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY COULD REPLACE THE KEY FOR $180.00 AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE OR REPLACE THE ENTIRE SHIFT ASSEMBLY FOR APPROXIMATELY $500.00. THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HANDLE WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 92,000.
2006 FORD FUSION - NORMAL DRIVING UNTIL I HIT 59,500 MILES. TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP AFTER REACHING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND THE EMISSIONS LIGHT WOULD TURN ON. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 5/14/10, AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. AFTER TRANSMISSION WAS REPAIRED, THE CAR WAS PUT ON DIAGNOSTICS AND NOW THE POWER MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT IN ON 5/14/2010 AND IT IS 7/28/10 AND I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE CAR. THEY ARE WAITING FOR THE PART WHICH THEY SAY WAS RECEIVED TODAY. AND BECAUSE I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FIRST, I GET THE PART FIRST. THERE IS ANOTHER 06 FUSION WITH THE SAME ISSUE, WAITING FOR THE SAME PART. WAS THE PART ON BACK ORDER FOR SO LONG BECAUSE FORD NEEDED TO REPLACE SO MANY OF THEM? MY GUESS IS YES. I WAS TOLD THE PART WOULD BE IN JULY 15 AND IT WAS JUST RECEIVED TODAY (7/28/10). *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR BUT THE SERVICE LIGHT HAS NEVER COME ON! I HAVE ALSO HAD THE KEY STUCK IN THE IGNITION! THESE PROBLEMS ARE GETTING RIDICULOUS AND TO HAVE FORD NOT COVER THEM IS JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE! THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING, NOT SHIFTING WHEN IT IS SUPPOSED TO, DOWNSHIFTING HARD. ANYTIME I TRY TO ACCELERATE TO PASS, OR SPEED UP IT BANGS AND JERKS REALLY HARD I'VE ALMOST DRIVEN OFF THE ROAD A FEW TIMES BECAUSE OF HOW HARD IT BANGS. IT JUST KEEPS GETTING WORSE, TO THE POINT MY KIDS ASK ME "MOM, WHAT WAS THAT?" THIS IS A COMPLETE HAZARD TO DRIVE ON THE ROAD CAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW IF OR WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. LET ALONE HAVING MY KIDS IN THE CAR! I HAVE BEEN ALMOST REAR-ENDED A COUPLE OF TIMES BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND WON'T GO INTO GEAR, ALL IT DOES IS REV THE ENGINE AND IF YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS TO TRY AND GET THE RPM'S TO GO DOWN, YOU REALLY SLOW DOWN AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT! IS THIS WHAT FORD NEEDS?! IS FOR SOMEONE TO GET INTO A BAD ACCIDENT AND GET SERIOUSLY INJURED OR DIE IN ORDER TO GET THIS RECALLED?! THIS IS HAPPENING TO SOOO MANY FORD FUSIONS AND IT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS!! SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS! THERE IS NO REASON WHY THEY CAN RECALL THE TRANSMISSIONS ON THE NEWER FORD FUSIONS BUT NOT THE VERY FIRST YEAR IT WAS OUT!! THEY KNOW SOMETHING IS GOING ON WITH THESE TRANSMISSION, THEY JUST DON'T WANT TO SPEND THE MONEY TO FIX THEM ALL AND I FIND THAT ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!! MY KIDS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO RIDE IN A CAR THAT COULD BE THE CAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT ALL BECAUSE FORD DOESN'T WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM! IT'S NOT FAIR THAT I PAID 20K FOR THIS CAR AND WHEN IT HAS ABOUT 60K MILES ON IT FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO START TO MESS UP AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR IT!! THIS IS GIVING FORD A BAD NAME!!! HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES AT 50,000 AND ABOVE ON THE 2006 FORD FUSION... I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND FORD HAS TRIED TO BRUSH IT OFF AS I NEED A BRAND NEW TRANSMISSION, BUT I MADE THEM CHECK THEIR SERVICE ALERTS... THERE IS AN ALERT OUT ON ALL 2006 FORD FUSION'S WITH A CERTAIN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND SINCE THERE IS AN ALERT OUT ON IT. I WAS WONDERING WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE? MY CAR IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE, IT SLIPS IN AND OUT OF GEAR AND IT IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE IT WILL GET STUCK IN CAR AND VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON REGULAR ROADS AT REGULAR SPEEDS. AS IT WILL GET STUCK IN LOWER GEARS AS WELL. I DO PLAN ON GETTING THE PROBLEM FIXED BECAUSE I NEED MY CAR, BUT I ALSO FEEL THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY SINCE FORD HAS A KNOWN ISSUE OF THIS PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL CAR. WHAT WILL IT TAKE? I PURCHASED MY FORD FUSION IN APRIL 2006. SINCE THEN, I HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS. DURING THE SAME YEAR OF PURCHASE, THE REAR LEFT TAIL LIGHT AND A FUSE BLEW. ABOUT A 1 1/2 YEARS LATER THE SAME REAR LIGHT BLEW. IN 2009, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE FROM THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR PANEL, THE AIR BLOWER BEGAN SPONTANEOUSLY COMING ON BY ITSELF WHEN THE AIR OR THE HEAT IS NOT ON,I REPLACED A BATTERY AND THE CAR BEGAN TO HESITATE WHEN ACCELERATING. LAST BUT NOT LEAST IN 2010, TODAY ACTUALLY, I PARK MY CAR AND WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. I PLAN TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE AND RESOLUTION TO THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE. I HAVE PAID OVER HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR ALL THESE REPAIRS, WHICH OCCURRED RIGHT AFTER MY WARRANTY WAS UP. *TR
I OWN A 2006 FORD FUSION, WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE TRYING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE CAR WILL DROP OUT OF GEAR. THE CAR WILL NOT REENGAGE UNTIL THE TACHOMETER RETURNS TO AN IDLE. EVEN THEN THE CAR MAY NOT ENGAGE THE GEAR AGAIN. WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC OR OTHER CARS BEHIND THIS CAUSES AN UNSAFE CONDITION. *TR
2006 FORD FUSION SE WITH 2.3L I-4 ENGINE. 75,000 MILES. TWO BOLTS ON LEFT ENGINE MOUNT FRACTURED CAUSING ENGINE TO FALL INTO ENGINE BAY. ENGINE FELL ON AND IS BEING SUPPORTED BY THE DRIVE SHAFT WHICH IS TOUCHING THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THIS CAUSED THE CV BOOT TO RUPTURE. CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITH SUCH A FAILURE. FORTUNATELY THIS HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY. HAD IT HAPPENED ONLY 10 MINUTES BEFORE, IT WOULD HAVE OCCURRED ON I-20 IN DOWNTOWN ATLANTA AT RUSH HOUR AND WOULD HAVE LIKELY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOOK A RECORD OF THE INCIDENT BUT WERE NOT HELPFUL BEYOND THAT. I NEED A NEW ENGINE MOUNT, NEW CV BOOT, AND EVERYTHING UNDER THE ENGINE TO BE REALIGNED. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 FORD FUSION THAT HAS DEVELOPED A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. IT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED AS A VALVE BODY DEFECT WITH A SERVICE BULLETIN DATING BACK TO 2001. I FIRST CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM IN DECEMBER 2008, BUT THE TRANSMISSION DEPARTMENT WAS CLOSED (ON A SATURDAY). MY MILEAGE AT THAT TIME WAS 35129 (WELL WITHIN WARRANTY PERIOD). I WASN'T ABLE TO MAKE IT BACK UNTIL SEPT. OF '09 FOR EVALUATION, AND THEY JUST DID A SOFTWARE UPGRADE. BACK AGAIN WITH SAME PROBLEM IN NOV. '09 WHEN THEY INDICATED THE VALVE BODY FROM TSB DATED 08/24/01. IT HAS NEARLY CAUSED ME TO HAVE SEVERAL ACCIDENTS BECAUSE AT RANDOM TIMES, THE TRANSMISSION POPS INTO NEUTRAL WHETHER ON THE HIGHWAY, TURNING A CORNER, OR ACCELERATING - THEN POPS BACK INTO GEAR, CAUSING THE CAR TO BUCK VIOLENTLY. CARS BEHIND ME HAVE NEARLY RAMMED INTO MY CAR BECAUSE OF THIS SUDDEN FAILURE OF MY TRANSMISSION. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AND CORRECTED BY FORD CORPORATE. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I HAVE DOCUMENTED SOME OF THE MORE SEVER INCIDENCES. THE LATEST INCIDENCES WERE YESTERDAY, 3/30/10. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AS WELL AS FORD CORPORATE, BUT THEY SAY THE PROBLEM IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY.

OUR 2006 FUSION SEL'S TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR SINCE AROUND 44K MILES. WHILE IN FORWARD MOTION, REGARDLESS OF THE CURRENT SPEED OR RPMS THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS OUT OF GEAR AND THE FOLLOWING MAY HAPPEN, SOMETIMES ALL IN THE SAME OCCURRENCE: (1) A SUDDEN TRANSMISSION SURGE THEN A JERK RESULTING IN HIGH REVVING RPMS WITH NO FORWARD POWER. THE GAS PEDAL ONLY REVS THE ENGINE WITH NO FORWARD ACCELERATION (2) A SUDDEN GRAB/SLAM OUT OF AND BACK INTO GEAR JOLTING ANYONE IN THE CAR SIGNIFICANTLY (3) GEAR SLIPPAGE RESULTING IN HIGH REVVING RPM INTO THE RED ZONE, NO FORWARD ACCELERATION, AND NO RETURN TO PREVIOUS OR ANY OTHER GEAR (4) BUCKING SURGES OF ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION MAKING THE CAR IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL AND DRIVE SAFELY. WHILE ADVANCING FROM A COMPLETE STOP SUCH AS A STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC SIGNAL (1) TRANSMISSION MAY NOT COME OUT OF HIGH GEAR AND CAR WILL MOVE ONLY SLOWLY UNTIL STOPPED AND RESTARTED (2) TRANSMISSION STAYS IN HIGH GEAR AND THE CAR MOVES SLOWLY ONLY TO UNCONTROLLABLY JOLT FORWARD WHILE SLAMMING INTO A LOWER GEAR. WE WERE TOLD BY A FORD DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT PRESENTS ITSELF AROUND 40K MILES AND USUALLY AFTER THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. ESTIMATES TO REPAIR RANGED FROM $2,500 TO $4,500. IN ADDITION TO THE REPAIR COSTS, THERE IS THE MUCH HIGHER POTENTIAL COSTS OF LOST LIVES DUE TO THE LACK OF CONTROL THIS ISSUE PUTS THE DRIVER IN. WHEN A DRIVER IMMEDIATELY HAS NO CONTROL OF FORWARD MOMENTUM AND SUDDENLY HAS NO WAY TO DIRECT THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE LOCATION AT CURRENT TRAFFIC SPEEDS, THERE IS A SUDDEN POTENTIAL FOR LOSS OF LIVES FOR THE OCCUPANTS OF THE CAR AND POTENTIALLY THE VEHICLES FOLLOWING BEHIND.

IT SEEMS THE DECORATIVE RING AROUND THE BUTTON ON THE SHIFTER KEEPS THE BUTTON FROM FULLY DISENGAGING. I WENT BACK OUT TO MY CAR AND TRIED TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK WITHOUT HITTING THE BUTTON AND WAS SUCCESSFUL AT WHICH TIME THE CAR WAS EASY TO ROLL. IF THE CAR WAS PARKED ON A SLOPE AND THE SHIFTER DID NOT FULLY ENGAGE IN PARK IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IT COULD POP INTO NEUTRAL AND ROLL AWAY. I ATTEMPTED TO CALL MY LOCAL DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS CLOSED AND NOBODY WOULD BE ABLE TO HELP ME. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 OR 4 OTHER TIMES AND EVENTUALLY THE KEYS CAME OUT BUT ON THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT I STRUGGLED WITH IT FOR MOST OF AN HOUR BEFORE I FINALLY LOOKED ON THE INTERNET FOR THE SOLUTION. *TR
