I ALSO RECEIVED NOTICE OF THE FILING FOR BANKRUPTCY BY TAKATA. CAN YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IS DOING ABOUT THIS. ALSO, IS IT SAFER TO DISENGAGE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. THANK YOU.

TAKATA RECALL. OUR RECALL HAS BEEN ACTIVE SINCE JUNE 1, 2016 WITH NO RESOLUTION. I KEEP RECEIVING IN THE MAIL THAT THE PARTS ARE NOT YET AVAILABLE AND THEY WILL SEND A LETTER ONCE THE PARTS ARE READY. IT'S BEEN 18 MONTHS AND MY AIRBAGS ARE STILL NOT SAFE DUE TO THE PASSENGER FRONTAL AIRBAG INFLATOR. I ALSO DRIVE WITH TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN MY CAR, I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO FEEL SECURED WHEN DRIVING.

IN 2016, I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT MY VEHICLE IS AFFECTED BY THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL AND THAT I SHOULDN'T HAVE ANYONE SIT IN MY PASSENGER SEAT. I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED WHEN PARTS WERE AVAILABLE AND THE AIRBAG WOULD BE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. SINCE THAT TIME, I HAVE NEVER BEEN CONTACTED TO HAVE THE AIRBAG REPLACED. THIS YEAR, I RECEIVED A LETTER DATED JUNE 2018 BASICALLY TELLING ME THE SAME THING...THAT WHEN THE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE, THE AIRBAG WOULD BE REPLACED AND THAT SHOULD HAPPEN DURING THE SECOND OR THIRD QUARTER OF 2018. SO FAR, I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY WORD ABOUT REPLACING THIS AIRBAG AND IT HAS NOW BEEN TWO FULL YEARS. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO TRAVEL WITH ANYONE IN THE FRONT SEAT WHICH HAS BEEN A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE FOR MY FAMILY. I HAVE CALLED FORD SEVERAL TIMES AND LEFT MESSAGES BUT NO ONE EVER CALLS ME BACK.
"TAKATA RECALL": THIS RECALL HAS BEEN IN EFFECT FOR YEARS AND THE DEALERSHIP STILL DOES NOT HAVE THE PASSENGER FRONTAL AIRBAG INFLATOR REPLACEMENT PART, NOR CAN THEY PROVIDE ME WITH AN ESTIMATED DATE THEY EXPECT TO RECEIVE THE PARTS AND REPAIR MY VEHICLE. THE ONLY OPTION THEY OFFERED WAS TO ADD ME TO A WAITING LIST, WHICH I'VE BEEN ON SINCE I WAS NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL YEARS AGO. IN ADDITION, THE DASHBOARD IS WARPED DUE TO HIGH HEAT AROUND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. THRU RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED THAT THE AMMONIUM NITRATE USED IN TAKATA AIRBAGS CAN BECOME UNSTABLE OVER TIME, ESPECIALLY AFTER EXPOSURE TO TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATIONS AND PERIODS OF CONSTANT HIGH HUMIDITY. I LIVE IN NC, WHICH IS ZONE B ONE OF THE THREE PRIORITY ZONES. THE DEALER HAS OFFERED NO REMEDY AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY NO LONGER HAVE ANY LOANER CARS AVAILABLE. THIS THE ONLY VEHICLE I HAVE FOR TRANSPORTATION SO I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE IT. A REMEDY TO THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE PROVIDED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE MORE PEOPLE DIE OR ARE SERIOUSLY INJURED.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN GARNERS FERRY IN COLUMBIA, SC ON A RAINY DAY IN JUNE, TOWARDS WHERE IT TURNS INTO DEVINE ST., AND AS I PASSED THE TARGET (SHOPPES AT WOODHILL, 6090 GARNERS FERRY RD, COLUMBIA, SC 29209) I STARTED ATTEMPTING TO SLOW DOWN BECAUSE THE ROAD IS DOWNHILL. AS I STARTED TO PRESS THE BRAKES THE CAR DIDN'T SEEM TO BE SLOWING. I TOOK A SECOND TO GLANCE DOWN AND MAKE SURE I WAS PRESSING THE BRAKE. I WAS SO I PANICKED AND STARTED STOMPING THE BRAKE. I FELT THE CAR SHAKING AND VIBRATING THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THE BRAKES WERE LOCKED BUT I COULDN'T STOP MY CAR BEFORE REAR-ENDING AN SUV AT FULL SPEED IN MY FORD FUSION ON THE GARNERS FERRY/DEVINE ST. AND ROSEWOOD/WILDCAT RD. INTERSECTION. THE FRONT END OF MY CAR WAS DAMAGED TOTALING OVER $1,000.

WHILE PARKED AND A PASSENGER TRIED TO OPEN THE BACK DOOR ON DRIVER'S SIDE, THE HANDLE EXPLODED AND SENT A PIECE OF THE HANDLE INTO THE FRONT SEATING AREA. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN INJURY DUE TO THE SIZE AND SPEED OF THE PROJECTILE. IT NEARLY MISSED THE FRONT PASSENGER. I HAVE CHECKED WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS.
