IN THREE SEPARATE INCIDENTS NOW, SPANNING APPROXIMATELY MARCH 2015-JANUARY 2016, THE BRAKE PEDAL IN THIS VEHICLE HAS GONE SOFT DOWN TO THE FLOOR WITH MINIMAL BRAKING POWER DIRECTLY AFTER THE ABS ENGAGED. THE FIRST OCCURRED ON WET ROADS AT APPROXIMATELY 45MPH, THE SECOND IN NORMAL CONDITIONS ON THE HIGHWAY STOPPING FOR SUDDEN TRAFFIC, AND THE THIRD ON SNOWY ROADS AT APPROXIMATELY 25MPH. FOR TWO OF THESE TIMES IT WAS NECESSARY TO SWERVE OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID COLLISION AS THE CAR CAME TO A STOP VERY SLOWLY. THE BRAKES WOULD ONLY RETURN TO SEEMINGLY NORMAL IF I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OVER, PUT IT IN PARK, AND PUMP THE BRAKES. MECHANIC HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG THUS FAR. FROM DOING A BIT OF RESEARCH, THIS APPEARS TO NOT BE AN UNCOMMON ISSUE, AND MOST SUGGEST THAT IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WHEN THE ABS ENGAGES. IF THIS IS THE CASE, I DO NOT WANT TO REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER POTENTIALLY FAULTY UNIT WITH THE HIGH EXPENSE BUT IT IS UNNERVING TO DRIVE A CAR WITH SUCH SAFETY ISSUES IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES FELT SPONGY OR SOFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
ONLY AFTER ABS BRAKES ARE ENGAGED THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ASAP DUE TO THE SAFETY FACTOR. AFTER A DAY OR THE CAR IS TURNED OFF THE PEDAL RETURNS TO NORMAL.
WHAT I WILL BE DESCRIBING HAS HAPPENED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION: WHEN STOPPING MY VEHICLE ON AN UNEVEN SURFACE, MY BRAKES MAKE A WHIRRRING NOISE AND I LOSE MY BRAKES. FORTUNATELY I HAVE NOT HAD TO AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE OR STATIONARY ITEM. ONCE I RAN A STOP SIGN, BUT IT WAS AT A FOUR-WAY AND NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE PRESENT. AFTER THIS HAPPENS MY BRAKES GET "SQUISHY". I FEEL LIKE I HAVE LOST 1/2 OF MY BRAKES FUNCTION. I AM VERY CAREFUL WHEN STOPPING AND TEND TO SLOW MUCH SOONER THAN NEEDED. AFTER A LONG TIME IT SEEMS LIKE MY BRAKES ARE "BACK", BUT WHEN I HAVE TO STOP AND USE THE ABS WE CYCLE THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER (WHERE I HAVE MY CAR REGULARLY SERVICED) AND I WAS TOLD THAT AFTER INSPECTION MY BRAKES LOOK FINE. IF I WANT FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS I WOULD HAVE TO PAY APPROXIMATELY $100 JUST TO "SEE". A LOCAL MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT UNLESS MY ABS WARNING LIGHT WAS ON HE COULD NOT EVEN RUN THE DIAGNOSTICS. MY ABS LIGHT HAS NEVER CAME ON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FUSION. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ABS SENSOR ACTIVATED. MOMENTS LATER, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE DID NOT IMMEDIATELY STOP AND THE STOPPING DISTANCE WAS INCREASED. THE DEALER CHANGED THE REAR ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS, AND BRAKE FLUID; HOWEVER, THE SAME FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL MONTHS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,914.
I WAS DRIVING AND ABOUT 15 MILES AN HOUR IT IS RAINING I WAS COMING UP TO THE SLOW CURVE 1 HILL MY ABS LIGHT TURNED ON MY BRAKES ARE LOCKED UP MADE ME SLIDE INTO A CURB NOW MY ABS LIGHT IS ON AND I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING MY CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS FAILED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BAXTER FORD SOUTH (9203 S 145TH ST, OMAHA, NE 63138) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER BEING REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
I HAD EXITED THE HIGHWAY & WAS STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT IN THE RIGHT HAND TURN LANE. CARS WERE BEHIND ME. WHEN IT WAS MY TURN TO GO, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FOR ME TO MAKE THE TURN. THE TRACTION LIGHT, WRENCH LIGHT, AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I PRESSED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR TO TRY TO MOVE THE CAR OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE 4-LANE INTERSECTION, BUT IT MOVED AT A SNAIL'S PACE MAYBE 4 FEET FROM THE TURN LANE. THE CAR DID NOT HAVE THE POWER TO TURN OR EVEN MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. MY CAR WAS PERPENDICULAR TO THE CARS IN THE 4 OTHER LANES. I'M THANKFUL I WASN'T HIT. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT, BUT THE SAME LIGHTS CAME ON, THE CAR WAS SHAKY, AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE POLICE PULLED BEHIND ME AND SHE CALLED THE TOW TRUCK. THE TOW TRUCK TOOK US TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY HAS TO BE REPLACED, AND WAS THE CAUSE OF MY CAR PROBLEMS TODAY. THE LADY AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID FORD HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY GOING OUT IN FORD VEHICLES, INCLUDING THE KIND I HAVE- 2009 FORD FUSION.
ABS FAILS TO RESET AFTER THEY ACTIVAT FROM A SLICK ROAD CONDITIONS
I EXPERIENCED REDUCED AND UNEVEN BRAKING ACTION AFTER THE ACTIVATION OF THE ABS SYSTEM DURING A HARD STOP ON A CITY STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHILE TURNING RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SHOP, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. A WEB SEARCH INDICATED SIMILAR ISSUES SPECIFIC TO FORD FUSION AND SIMILAR FORD VEHICLES OF THIS VINTAGE RELATED TO A FAILURE IN THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. I CONTACTED A FORD DEALERSHIP, AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND SAID IT IS A COMMON FAILURE MODE FOR MY SCENARIO. BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SHOP, I HAD SEVERAL TIMES THAT I NEEDED TO MAKE HARDER THAN USUAL STOPS. BRAKING REQUIRED PUMPING OF THE PEDAL TO GET NEEDED BRAKING ACTION. THE BRAKING ACTION WAS UNEVEN CAUSING THE CAR TO SWERVE, AND IT APPEARS THE ABS SYSTEM NO LONGER WOULD ACTIVATE. NO INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED TO SIGNIFY MECHANICAL FAILURE. I CONSIDER THE CAR NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN CURRENT STATE. REPAIRS ARE PENDING.
HAVE LOST BREAKING WHEN MAKING TURN AND APPLYING BRAKES ON ROUGH ROADS (IN WINTER) THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO STOP AND AFTER QUITE SOME TIME THE BRAKES WOULD RETURN TO "NORMAL" AND THEN TIS PROBLEM WOULD REOCCUR, TO DATE THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER A TWO AND A HALF PERIOD, WHEN TAKEN INTO MECHANIC HE COULD FIND NO PROBLEM, HE HAS SUGGESTED TO REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER, HOW EVER I HAVE NEVER HAD A MASTER CYLINDER FAIL AND THEN FIX ITSELF AND THEN FAIL OVER AGAIN AND AGAIN, I BELIEVE IT IS THE ABS CONTROL VALVE AND I FEEL THAT THIS IS NOT A NORMAL WEAR ISSUE, AND THAT FORD SHOULD DO A TOTAL RECALL TO REPAIR THIS "SAFETY" ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER A BUMP. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD BEFORE THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE WAS DUPLICATED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A RED WARNING LIGHT FLASHED INTERMITTENTLY AND THE VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PART, BUT THE REMEDY FAILED TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER LATER STATED THAT THE COMPUTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE SAFELY DRIVEN WITHOUT POTENTIALLY STALLING. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS PREMATURELY DETERIORATING AND BULGING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A STICKY RESIDUE THAT EXPANDED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CAUSING EXPOSURE TO THE AIR BAG. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE INNER PARTS OF THE DASHBOARD EXPOSED PLASTIC AND FOAM NEAR THE VENTS ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
DRIVING IN CITY TRAFFIC, I WAS TURNING LEFT AND HIT A ROUGH PATCH OF ROAD. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED BECAUSE OF ROAD CONSTRUCTION, WHEN MY FUSION HIT THE ROUGH PATCH DUE TO THE CONSTRUCTION AND I APPLIED MY BRAKES, THE PEDAL WAS VERY SOFT, GOING DOWN TO THE FLOOR BOARD CAUSING A CAR ACCIDENT. CALLED FORD CORPORATE OFFICE AND GAVE V I N INFO, NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED AS OF TODAY'S DATE. HAPPEN AGAIN EXISTING FREEWAY, HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. BOTH TIMES OCCURRED IN 2015, HASN'T HAPPEN SINCE. READ ON THE INTERNET ABOUT HYDRAULIC CONTROL VALVE, DESCRIBES EXACT CIRCUMSTANCE THAT HAPPEN TO ME. HOPE TO GOD THEY RECALL THIS PART.
INSIDE DOOR HANDLES BRAKE AND DOORS CAN NOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE!!! ALSO DOORS WILL NOT LOCK AFTER THE HANDLE BRAKES.
AFTER STOPPING ON SLIPPERY PAVEMENT, OR SOMETIMES JUST HITTING A POT HOLE OR BUMP THE BRAKES FAIL. THE NEXT TIME YOU PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL IT GOES TO THE FLOOR AND HAS TO BE PUMPED UP, JUST TO REGAIN ANY STOPPING POWER. THE BRAKES STAY IN THIS STATE FEELING SOFT AND GOING TO THE FLOOR UNTIL YOU MAKE A VERY HARD STOP FORCING THE ABS TO ENGAGE, SOMETIMES IT TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BEFORE THE BRAKES RETURN TO NORMAL. WE HAVE THREE FORD FUSIONS IN THE FAMILY, ONE 2008 AND TWO 2009 MODELS, AND ALL THREE OF THEM HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE AT LEAST ONCE. I HAVE ALSO SPOKEN TO OTHER FUSION OWNERS AND EVERY ONE OF THEM HAS HAD THIS BRAKE ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN TWO INCIDENTS WHERE THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT RAN A STOP SIGN. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGES TO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES AND THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SCHOEPP MOTORS (3440 TRIBECA DR, MIDDLETON, WI 53562 (608) 255-7003) FOR REPAIRS, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED FOR THE AIR BAG FAILURE. DURING THE SECOND INCIDENT, WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A DEER STANDING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT SLOWED DOWN, BUT THE DEER CHARGED AND COLLIDED WITH THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MISSING AIR BAGS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
BRAKE PEDAL WENT SOFT AFTER ABS WAS ENGAGED. NOW THEY GO SOFT AND ALMOST DOESN'T STOP AND TAKES TWICE THE DISTANCE TO STOP ESPECIALLY AFTER THE ABS ENGAGES BECAUSE OF BRAKING ON WET SURFACE OR BUMPY/ROUGH SURFACE. THIS IS SCARY AND I WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS FIXED BUT IF THERE IS A RECALL I WOULD LIKE TO WAIT UNTIL THE RECALL IS INITIATED. STARTED HAPPENING A FEW YEARS AGO BUT I'VE JUST MANAGED WITH IT SINCE.
I HAVE A PENDING CASE WITH FORD . THE NUMBER IS CAS-7605243-R8K8V5. BRAKE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE BRAKES HAVE GONE SPONGY AND REQUIRE A LOT OF PRESSURE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS TO BE PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND EVEN THEN THE CAR "SLIPS" SEVERAL FEET BEFORE IT STOPS. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS I'VE ALMOST HIT A PEDESTRIAN WHO HAS STEPPED OUT INTO THE STREET AT A CROSS WALK. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BOOSTER. SECOND TIME WAS TOLD THE BRAKES WERE "NORMAL" EVEN THOUGH THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. FORD FIXED THIS ISSUE FOR HYBRIDS AND I'VE ASKED MULTIPLE TIME FOR THEM TO LOOK INTO THIS FOR THE CONVENTIONAL FUSIONS. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT POTENTIAL REPAIRS ON THE VEHICLE, THOSE WOULD HAVE TO BE ADDRESSED WITH A SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE DEALERSHIP. IF YOU DECIDE TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK INTO THE DEALERSHIP, PLEASE LET ME KNOW SO I CAN FOLLOW-UP WITH THEM AND SEE IF THERE'S ANY ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE I CAN PROVIDE AT THAT TIME." I ASKED FOR THIS ISSUE TO BE ESCALATED AND I PROVIDED ALL OF THIS INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION THE MANAGER'S SUPERIOR. HE CONFIRMED HE RECEIVED MY EMAIL AND HAS DONE NOTHING! THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED/ ADDRESSED BEFORE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OCCURS.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2009 FORD FUSION TO COLLEGE ORIENTATION IN MANKATO, MN. THE CAR WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AND ULTIMATELY STOPPED RUNNING. THE ISSUE SURROUNDING FORD'S LACK OF COMMITMENT IS THAT THE THROTTLE BODY DEFECT IS A KNOWN ISSUE; REFERENCE CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03. THE SERVICE MANAGER AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID MY CAR DID NOT FALL WITHIN THE PARAMETERS OF THE REPLACEMENT PROGRAM. I HAVE A CASE NUMBER FROM FORD INVOLVING THE DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY, BUT NOBODY HAS FOLLOWED UP WITH ME AND I ASSUME THE CASE IS CLOSED. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE DID NOT KNOW WHY MY CAR WOULD NOT BE COVERED SINCE IT'S THE SAME DEFECT THAT'S ADDRESSED BY THEIR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM.

MY VEHICLE HAS HAD MULTIPLE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR ISSUES. ALL 4 HAVE BEEN REPLACED ONCE AND TWO HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE IN THE COURSE OF 9 MONTHS. ONE TIME THE SENSOR BECAME LOOSE AND BEGAN CLUNKING AROUND INSIDE THE RIM. IT WAS ONLY AN EXPENSIVE ANNOYANCE UNTIL YESTERDAY. WHILE DRIVING AT 65 TO 70 MPH ON A 4 LANE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR BROKE OFF. AT THAT TIME IT BEGAN TO SPIN AROUND WITHIN THE WHEEL WELL/RIM. THIS CAUSED A VIOLENT VIBRATION IN THE STEERING OF THE VEHICLE AND MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP GOING STRAIGHT WITHOUT SLOWING TO 50MPH. THIS WAS A BACK TIRE AND I SHUTTER TO THINK OF WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD IT BEEN IN THE FRONT. FORD MOTOR COMPANY DOESN'T HAVE A KNOWN ISSUE OR RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. I AM AT THE POINT WHERE I WON'T TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS FEAR OF LOSING ALL CONTROL OF STEERING. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO MURPHY FORD, CHESTER PA ON 4 OCCASIONS. THIS CAR HAS BEEN TOWED TWICE TO MURPHY FORD , CONCERNING THIS ISSUE. MURPHY FORD COULD NOT DUPLICATE THIS PROBLEM. AFTER THE 4TH VISIT, AND MURPHY FORD COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, I REQUESTED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER BE REPLACE. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE AND FORD SHOULD CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. I AM AUTHORIZING THE NHTSB TO REVIEW MY VEHICLE SERVICE RECORD FROM MURPHY FORD CONCERNING THIS ISSUE.

GOT FIXED, HEADED HOME, HAD TO SLAM ON BRAKES ON 60MPH HIGHWAY DUE TO DEBRIS IN THE ROAD LOST FROM A TRAILER IN FRONT OF ME, DID CALL POLICE. AFTER THAT BRAKES FELT MUSHY. CALLED DEALERSHIP, WAS TOLD MUST BE AIR IN LINE AND TO PUMP BRAKES. WORKED. BRAKES FELT STIFF AGAIN. JUNE 2015 DRIVER ON PARENTS DIRT ROAD, SLID A LITTLE ON LOOSE GRAVEL, ABS KICKED IN, BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR, WENT THROUGH INTERSECTION, COULDN'T STOP. LUCKY IT WAS RURAL ROAD, LOW TRAFFIC. PUMPED BRAKES TO RE PRESSURE, AFTER FINALLY BEING ABLE TO STOP. BRAKES FROM THEN ON STAYED MUSHY. TOOK TO FORD MECHANICS ON JULY 16, 2015 AND WAS TOLD BRAKES WERE FINE. COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. BRAKES STILL GO ALMOST TO FLOOR BEFORE BRAKING ENGAGES. SLID ON GRAVEL AND THROUGH SAME INTERSECTION. LUCKY AGAIN. TOOK TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, IT'S THE HYDROLIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU). WAS TOLD FORD ONLY HAD TWO NEW UNITS LEFT IN ENTIRE COUNTRY $800 PART, BEST BET JUNK YARD USED AROUND $100. WAS ALSO TOLD FORD HAS DISCONTINUED THE PART BUT THERE IS NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE REPLACEMEMT. 100% FACTORY DEFECT, NOT USAGE. NEIGHBOR WITH 08 FORD FUSION SEL 85,000 MILES HAD SAME ISSUE. I HAVE TWICE NOW EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE/POWER TRAIN FAILURE WHILE AT SPEED AND IN TRAFFIC. WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT ANY PRIOR NOTICE, MY CAR IMMEDIATELY SHUTS DOWN. DURING WHICH THE ENGINE STALLS, POWER BRAKES FAIL, AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKS. LUCKILY I WAS IN A POSITION IN TRAFFIC WHERE I COULD QUICKLY ENGAGE THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND ALLOW PLENTY OF REACTION TIME FOR OTHER DRIVERS TO AVOID ME. AFTER THE CAR HAS STALLED AND LOST ALL POWER, THAT IS WHEN THE WARNING LIGHTS (ENGINE AND WRENCH) COME ON THE DASH. EACH TIME IT HAS TAKEN NO LESS THAN 5 MINUTES, WHILE SITTING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, TO RESTART THE CAR. WHEN THE CAR RESTARTS IT WILL DRIVE LIKE IT DID PRIOR TO THE FAILURE BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL REMAIN ON. THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CAR TO THE LOCAL FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. AFTER A FULL DAY OF TRYING TO RECREATE THE ISSUE (25 MILE TEST DRIVE) THEIR RECOMMENDATION WAS TO TAKE THE CAR AND CONTINUE TO DRIVE AS NORMAL UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS SITE AND SEVERAL OTHERS, I HAVE FOUND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY FUSION OWNER WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. I BROUGHT SEVERAL DOCUMENTS TO PROVE THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED BY FORD (CSP 13N03) AND THERE IS A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM.
