THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW WITH A MONTH BETWEEN INCIDENCES. I STOPPED ON A DOWNWARD SLOPE ON A CITY/TOWN STREET, AND THEN THE BRAKES LET GO A LITTLE AND WE'RE SOFT THE REST OF MY DRIVE. THE SECOND TIME I HEARD AND FELT A VIBRATION AS THE BRAKES STOPPED HOLDING AND I HAD TO PRESS HARDER. BOTH TIMES THE BRAKES HAVE EVENTUALLY RETURNED TO NORMAL, TWO HOURS LATER THE FIRST TIME AND 24 HOURS LATER THE SECOND. MY MECHANIC BELIEVES THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. THIS IS CONCERNING BECAUSE THOUGH IT IS FINE NOW, I DON'T KNOW WHERE OR WHEN THE BRAKES WILL STOP BEING EFFECTIVE. I DO A LOT OF DRIVING AND I LIVE IN A HILLY PART OF THE COUNTRY THAT GETS SNOW IN THE WINTERS. I NEED TO BE ABLE TO TRUST MY CAR BRAKES WILL NOT GIVE OUT ON ME ALL OF A SUDDEN.
THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS BECOME SOFT OR SQUISHY AND I MUST PUSH IT HARDER FOR THE CAR TO STOP. THIS STARTED AFTER I HIT THE BRAKES WHILE IT WAS RAINING. MY CAR SLID BUT EVENTUALLY CAME TO A STOP AS I MANUEVERED AROUND A STOPPED CAR. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT THE TIME AND THE TRAFFIC CAME TO A STOP BECAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT AHEAD. THIS SOFT BRAKE PEDAL HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST AFTER BRAKING ON BUMPY ROADS OR IN THE SNOW. THE FIRMNESS OF THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS COME BACK IN ALL PREVIOUS OCCASIONS BUT HAS NOT YET IN OVER A WEEK IN THIS CURRENT SITUATION.
PROBLEM WITH BRAKES, SPONGIE, GOING TO THE FLOOR EVEN AFTER I REPLACED BRAKES ROTORS AND CALIPERS THE WHOLE WAY AROUND THE VEHICLE. DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME ONLY 50,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. MECHANIC TOLD US NOTHING WAS WRONG. BUT WHY DOES IT CONTINUE TO HAPPEN. THIS IS UNSAFE AND I HAVE ALMOST BEEN INVOLVED IN 2 ACCIDENTS DUE TO BRAKES FAILING. HOW DO I GET THIS FIXED AND HOW CAN I HAVE THIS TAKEN CARE OF. IT IS WORSE WHEN IT IS WET OR RAINING OUT. ALL OF A SUDDEN BRAKES GO TO FLOOR AND YOU ARE UNABLE TO STOP EVEN WHEN PUMPING THE BRAKES.
AS I WAS DRIVING (IN MOTION) AFTER GOING OVER ROUGH PAVEMENT THE BRAKES COMPLETELY WENT TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS A SMALL AMOUNT OF BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS BUT IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND I HAD TO PULL OVER. I WAS GOING TO CALL A TOW TRUCK BUT AFTER I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON THE BRAKES HAD POWER AGAIN.
TAKATA RECALL. I HAVE YET TO HAVE A REMEDY FOR MY AIRBAG RECALL WHICH WAS INITIATED IN JANUARY 2017. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN INORDINATELY LONG WAITING PERIOD OF HAVING TO DRIVE THIS CAR WITH THE POTENTIAL OF SEVERE INJURY OCCURRING.

TAKATA RECALL PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. NO RENTAL CARS ARE AVAILABLE AT MY LOCAL DEALER (PARADISE FORD). FORD CORPORATE COULD OFFER NO ASSISTANCE.

THE DRIVER'S SIDE INTERIOR DOOR LATCH WAS BROKEN COULD NOT LOCK THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WITHIN THE LAST 5 YEARS. I TOOK IT TO FLOOD FORD OF NARRAGANSETT, RI AND THEY FIXED IT. NOW THE SAME PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT FIXED AND DON'T THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE SAME REPAIR AGAIN!
TAKATA RECALL STILL NO FIX ON THE AIRBAG. THIS ANGERS ME GREATLY HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE HAVE TO GET HURT OR KILLED BEFORE FORD TAKES CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. NO RENTALS AVAILABLE SO STUCK WITH DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE
AFTER THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FEATURE HAS ENGAGED, ON SUBSEQUENT STOPS THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL BE VERY SOFT. I WILL HAVE TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE CAR. WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND SITS FOR A PERIOD OF TIME (HOUR OR MORE) THE PEDAL USUALLY RETURNS TO NORMAL. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR 7 YEARS, THIS HAS OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE LATEST WAS 10/27/2018.
WAS STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT HIT A BUMP AND BRAKES QUIT WORKING.
I WAS DRIVING AND HIT A SMALL POTHOLE - MY BRAKES SUBSEQUENTLY BECAME EXTREMELY SOFT TO THE POINT WHERE I FELT LIKE I HAD NO BRAKING POWER.
WHILE IN MOTION THE BRAKES GO TO THE FLOOR AFTER HITTING AND UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES (POTHOLE, R/R TRACKS) WHILE BRAKING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO NOT STOP TILL AFTER THE DESIRED STOPING LOCATION OR AFTER PASSING THROUGH STOP/RED LIGHTS, OR NOT BEING ABLE TO SAFETY MAKE A DESIRED TURN. AFTER SAID EVENT IT TAKES DAYS SOMETIMES WEEKS FOR THE BRAKE SYSTEM TO RETURN TO 'NORMAL' FEEL. THE BRAKES CONTINUE TO FEEL SPONGY AND THE PEDAL HAS TO BE PUSHED FURTHER DOWN IN ORDER TO STOP
WEST CHESTER, OHIO, BETWEEN 6:30 AM AND 7:00 AM EST ON 10/18/2018 WHILE TRAVELLING SOUTHBOUND ON I-75 COMING FROM THE UNION CENTER BOULEVARD ON-RAMP HEADING TOWARDS THE NORWOOD LATERAL PARKWAY (562); PLEASE REFERENCE THE ATTACHED PDF FOR GOOGLE MAP IMAGES OF THE AREA. THE EVENT THAT I DESCRIBE IN THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPHS HAS OCCURRED IN AT LEAST FOUR OTHER INCIDENCES INVOLVING SIMILAR CONDITIONS: I WAS HEADING FROM THE LA FITNESS ON ALLEN ROAD IN WEST CHESTER, OH TO HIXSON ARCHITECTURE ENGINEERING INTERIORS IN CINCINNATI, OH. I WAS APPROACHING A BRIDGE IN THE ROAD THAT WENT OVER WHAT I BELIEVE IS AN AGRICULTURAL WATER RUNOFF. IN BETWEEN THE BRIDGE AND THE CONTIGUOUS ROADWAY IS A SMALL BREAK WHERE YOU CAN FEEL A SLIGHT BUMP BECAUSE OF THE PARTITION. AS I APPROACHED THE PARTITION, TRAFFIC BEGAN TO SLOW DUE TO HIGH VOLUME AT THAT TIME IN THE MORNING. I PROCEEDED TO APPLY PRESSURE TO MY BRAKE PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME I WAS CROSSING THE PARTITION. AS SOON AS I HIT THE PARTITION, MY BRAKE PEDAL LOST THE MAJORITY OF ITS PRESSURE, REQUIRING ME TO FORCE THE PEDAL ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. JUST WHEN I HIT THE BREAK IN THE ROAD AND MY BRAKE PEDAL LOST PRESSURE, I BELIEVE I COULD HEAR THE SOUNDS OF MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ENGAGE, LIKE A CLICKING AS IF I LOST TRACTION AND WERE SKIDDING ON ICE. THERE WAS NO ICE, RAIN, SLEET, OR SNOW TODAY, AND THE PREVIOUS TIMES THIS SAME PHENOMENON HAS OCCURRED, THERE WERE ALSO NO CONDITIONS CAUSED BY INCLEMENT WEATHER SUCH AS RAIN, SNOW, SLEET, OR ICE. THIS APPEARS TO HAPPEN IF I SHOULD ENCOUNTER SOME SORT OF BUMP OR POTHOLE IN THE ROAD WHILE APPLYING PRESSURE TO MY BRAKE PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME, CAUSING MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM TO ENGAGE, FURTHER CAUSING MY BRAKES TO EXHIBIT THE SAME AFOREMENTIONED EFFECTS.
LOW BRAKE ENGAGEMENT FOLLOWING ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM EVENT. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. AFTER THIS EVENT, I WOULD NEED TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN MORE THAN IT SHOULD NEED TO BE PUSHED IN ORDER TO GET THE BRAKES TO ENGAGE. TOM HOLZER FORD IN FARMINGTON HILLS, MI REPLACED A HYDRAULIC CONTROL VALVE UNIT AS WELL AS A FRONT RIGHT LOWER SIDE CALIPER PIN THAT WAS FROZEN.
I WAS DRIVING WHEN MY CAR ENTERED "LIMP HOME" MODE AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. I HAD BARELY ENOUGH TIME TO MOVE ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FROM TRAFFIC.
WHEN YOU PRESS BREAK PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE, BREAK PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, VERY SOTF AND THA CAR DOESN'T STOP. VERY BIG AND SERIOUS ISSUE.
BRAKE PEDAL VERY SPONGY , GOES ALMOST TO FLOOR , DOESN'T MATTER MOVING OR STOPPED, IF PUMPED WILL COME UP BUT FADES AWAY. I NOTICE IT IS NOT A RANDOM OCCURRENCE AND IS ALL OVER THE VARIOUS WEBSITES. IF IT IS , WHY HASN'T FORD DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT? IT IS BAD ENOUGH I CAN'T GET THE AIRBAG FIXED LET ALONE SAFELY STOP THE CAR BEFORE I WOULD NEED THE AIRBAGS! AS A JOHN Q. PUBLIC I DON'T HAVE $1000 DOLLARS TO FIX A "SAFETY" CONCERN THAT HAS TO BE KNOWN TO THE MANUFACTURER. IF FORD VALUES RETURN CUSTOMERS THEY NEED TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE. I UNDERSTAND THE COST OF THE RECTIFYING THESE ISSUES BUT I ALSO AS A FORMER FORD DEALER EMPLOYEE WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE RIGHT THING DONE IF THEY EXPECT REPEAT CAR SALES.
HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT FAILED ON THE ABS SYSTEM. BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE WAS LOST AND BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND FAILED. THIS SEEMS LIKE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL BASED ON REPORTED ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. BRAKES FAILED ON THE ROAD WHILE BEING DRIVEN. THE CAR WOULD STOP BUT PEDAL WAS ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. CAR HAS BEEN REPAIRED AT OUR EXPENSE.

BASICALLY, THE BRAKES ABS SEEMS TO KICK IN AND STICKS. ONCE IT DOES THE BRAKES GO TO TO THE FLOOR AND NEVER COME BACK TO NORMAL. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC SEEMED TO BE A TEMPORARY FIX AND THEY HAPPENED AGAIN 2 WEEKS LATER. THE BRAKES GO TO THE FLOOR VERY SOFT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FRIENDLY FORD (734-243-6000, LOCATED AT 2800 N TELEGRAPH RD, MONROE, MI 48162) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CALIPERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CALIPERS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER, BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 88,000. *DT THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND SUGGESTED TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER COULD NOT DETECT AN ISSUE. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT THE ABS HCU BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPLACED.*JS

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: CAS15628617. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 866-436-7332. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANDERSON FORD (2500 WILDCAT DR, LINCOLN, NE) TO BE REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V046000 (AIR BAGS). THE DEALER REPLACED THE AIR BAG INFLATOR. AFTER THE CONTACT RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE, SHE DISCOVERED THAT THE UPPER LEFT CORNER OF THE PASSENGER SIDE DASHBOARD, WHICH HOUSED THE AIR BAG MODULE, WAS NOT COMPLETELY SECURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE AIR BAG MODULE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS LATER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,432.
THE BRAKES IN THE CAR SEEMED "SQUISHY" OR SOFT REQUIRING THAT THE DRIVER PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL NEARLY THROUGH THE FLOOR TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MULTIPLE SHOPS AND HAD MULTIPLE REPAIRS INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, 2 BRAND NEW MASTER CYLINDERS. SEVERAL NEAR MISS INCIDENTS HAVE HAPPENED BUT LUCKILY NO ACCIDENTS. I TOOK THE CAR IN TODAY TO HAVE THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL COMPLETED AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW HCU. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS MAKE AND MODEL REGARDING FAULTY HCU PARTS.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD CALL THE CONTACT BACK, BUT THEY DID NOT. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
I AM ALSO EXPERIENCING SOFT/NEARLY FAILING BRAKES THAT NO SHOP CAN FIND THE CAUSE OF ON MY METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED 2009 FORD FUSION. I REFER TO YOUR CURRENT INVESTIGATION NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA18002 FIRST HAPPENED IN ANOTHER TOWN WHEN DRIVING FROM A STOP SLOWLY AROUND A CORNER THROUGH A PUDDLE...ABS ENGAGED, BRAKES WENT SOFT. TOOK TO A NEARBY SHOP WHO LOOKED, TINKERED WITH IT, COULD FIND NOTHING, BUT THE BRAKES FIRMED UP AGAIN. AGAIN NEW YEARS DAY 2017, ROLLED OVER A PATCH OF ICE, SAME THING, ABS ENGAGED, BRAKES WENT SOFT, PUMPING DID NOT HELP. TOOK TO MY LOCAL SHOP, THEY PUT IT ON A RACK, COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, TINKERED WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, APPARENTLY DID THE TRICK. IT DID IT AGAIN TWO DAYS AGO WHEN I STOPPED HARD DUE TO A CAR IN FRONT OF ME STOPPING QUICKLY WITHOUT NOTICE. BEEN SOFT EVER SINCE. I HAVE NO RECORDS BECAUSE NO ONE CHARGED ME FOR CHECKING IT OUT. MY LOCAL FORD DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THIS HAS DONE ALL BRAKE WORK AND FLUID EXCHANGE AS NEEDED AND RECOMMENDED. IT JUST UNDERWENT A SAFETY CHECK A WEEK AGO WHILE HAVING AN OIL CHANGE AND ALL WAS WELL. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. FORD HAS GOT TO ADDRESS THIS AND PUTT THE TRIGGER ON REPLACING THE HCUS LIKE IS THE SUSPECTED CULPRIT. SOMEONE'S GOING TO GET KILLED.
AFTER ENGAGING THE ABS SYSTEM ON A GRAVEL ROAD, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT SOFT. IT NOW REQUIRES SIGNIFICANT PUMPING AND INCREASED DISTANCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED, BUT THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. RESEARCH UNCOVERED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM/DEFECT WITH THIS MODEL YEAR FUSION. I AM WONDERING IF THERE IS ANY MOMENTUM TOWARDS A FORD RECALL ON THIS ABS ISSUE. IT IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD, AND WELL DOCUMENTED.
FORD IDENTIFIED THIS RECALL OVER A YEAR AGO, AND THERE IS STILL NO REMEDY AVAILABLE. THEY HAVE ISSUED ME A RENTAL CAR, WHICH I HAVE HAD FOR 3 MONTHS NOW. I WANT MY FUSION TO BE REPAIRED SO I CAN DRIVE IT. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
TAKATA RECALL WE CALLED TO GET IT FIXED AN THEY SAY ITS GONNA TAKE A LONG TIME TO GET PARTS TO FIX
"TAKATA RECALL" I RECEIVED A NOTICE MONTHS AGO CONCERNING THE RECALL. I CALLED TWO DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIPS. ONE IN OZARK MO AND ONE IN SPRINGFIELD MO. BOTH ACKNOWLEDGED THERE IS A RECALL. BOTH SAID THEY HAD TO ORDER PARTS. NEITHER DEALERSHIP EVER CALLED ME TO INSTALL NEW AIRBAG.I THEN RECEIVED INFORMATION CONCERNING THE SETTLEMENT. I AM ENTERING THE DATE OF 9/5/18 BECAUSE IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THIS IS WAS THE DATE OF THE PRELIMINARY APPROVAL HEARING.
2009 FORD FUSION BRAKE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED WHILE DRIVING 30-40MPG ON AN EXIT RAMP THAT WAS IN A CURVE DURING THE RAIN AND DURING APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE ABS ENGAGED UNEXPECTEDLY AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKING DISTANCE INCREASED ROUGHLY TWICE THE NORMAL REQUIRED DISTANCE TO COME TO A STOP WHILE REQUIRING SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED PEDAL PRESSURE. PUMPING THE BRAKES TWICE DID NOT HELP STOP THE CAR OR TO BUILD PRESSURE IN THE PEDAL. I WAS SUCCESSFUL IN RECREATING THE ISSUE WHILE STOPPING OVER GRASS IN THE ROAD CAUSING ABS ENGAGEMENT OR OVER GRAVEL ON PAVEMENT TO CAUSE THE ABS ENGAGEMENT WITH THE RESULTS BEING ROUGHLY 40% OF THE TIME THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. TO GET THE BRAKE PEDAL TO RETURN TO NORMAL I QUICKLY AND HARSHLY JAB THE BRAKES MANY TIMES CAUSING THE HCU TO BECOME UNSTUCK ONLY FOR THE ISSUE TO RETURN DURING THE NEXT FEW TESTS. THIS IS MY 2ND FAULTY HCU!!! PLEASE RECALL THIS SAFETY ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SHAWNEE MISSION FORD (1150 SHAWNEE MISSION PARKWAY, SHAWNEE, KS 66203, (913) 631-000) AND THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,939.
TAKATA RECALL: I HAVE RECEIVED 3 NOTICES FOR THIS RECALL BUT EACH TIME IT SAYS PART IS NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME. NOT ONLY DO I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MY CAR BEING UNSAFE DUE TO THIS RECALL I HAVE LEARNED THIS MODEL IS ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH BRAKES FREEZING UP WHICH HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST 4 YEARS. THERE IS NO RECALL ON BRAKE ISSUES BUT I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AS WELL
DANGEROUS BRAKE PROBLEM. DURING WET CONDITIONS BRAKES LOCK UP WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES QUICKLY. THE CAR WILL SHAKE LIKE IT IS GOING OVER A HIGH GRATE IN THE ROAD WHEN IT IS THE BRAKES STUTTERING. THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR DOES NOT STOP FOR AT LEAST 25 FEET.I HAVE HAD THREE NEAR COLLISION DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. SINCE 2012 I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE ROSTERS TWICE BUT IT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THERE HAS BEEN THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE SERVICE BRAKE PEDAL WILL RANDOMLY GO TO THE FLOOR. DURING THESE EVENTS THERE IS NO SLOWING OF THE VEHICLE JUST AS THOUGH YOU HAVEN'T APPLIED THE SERVICE BRAKES. IF YOU PUMP THE BRAKES YOU CAN THEN START TO SLOW THE VEHICLE.
NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA18002 THE NHTSA ACTION ITEM LISTED ABOVE AFFECTS MY FORD FUSION TOO. I LOSE BREAKING POWER SO MUCH THAT I MUST APPLY THE BREAK PETAL TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND THIS ALSO DOES AFFECTS THE TOTAL STOPPING DISTANCE.
MY 2009 FORD FUSION HAS THE ANTILOCK BRAKE PROBLEM IN WHICH THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPS SIGNIFICANTLY AFTER AN ANTI-LOCK STOP EVENT. I RECEIVED THE 19V-904 RECALL NOTICE, HOWEVER FORD IS NOT SUPPLYING THE PARTS TO THE DEALER. FOR THIS REASON, I CAN NOT GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED. MY FUSION EXHIBITS A SEVERE LOW BRAKE PEDAL PROBLEM AFTER AN ANTI-LOCK STOP IN THE WINTER, AND IS DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO COME TO A STOP AFTER AN ANTI-LOCK STOP EVENT. I'M AFRAID I WILL END UP IN AN ACCIDENT, AND OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS WON'T EVEN DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE DUE TO THIS SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AS OF THIS WRITING. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE NHTSA PUT SOME PRESSURE ON FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO GET THE PARTS TO THEIR DEALERS SO WE CAN HAVE OUR VEHICLE REPAIRED. WE'VE WAITED A COUPLE YEARS FOR FORD TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. THE RECALL NOTICE FROM JANUARY 2020 STATES THAT "PARTS ARE ANTICIPATED TO BE AVAILABLE LATE FIRST QUARTER 2020." IT IS NOW EARLY THIRD QUARTER, AND STILL NO PARTS. FORD EITHER NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR TIMELY REPAIRS, OR SHOULD BE FORCED TO OFFER A FULL NADA RETAIL BUYBACK OF THESE CARS.
THERE HAS BEEN RECALL FOR THE AIRBAG INFLATORS ON THIS VEHICLE SINCE 2016 AND THE FORD DEALERSHIP INDICATES IT IS STILL WAITING ON THE PART TO FIX. WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS ISSUE FIXED SINCE NOTICE OF RECALL IN 2016.
OCCASIONALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE HITS A BUMP OR POT HOLE THE BRAKES IMMEDIATELY BECOMES SOFT AND LOSES POWER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IT REPEATS ITSELF AND ONE HAS TO SLOW IT DOWN WITH ENGINE BRAKING. AFTER A DAY OR TWO IT BECOMES OKAY AGAIN. TILL NEXT TIME AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THERE SEEMS TO BE APPARENTLY NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM, EVERYTHING CHECKS OUT AND WE ARE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE EVENTS ON DEMAND. WHEN THE BRAKE FAILS IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY RISK AND CAN CAUSE COLLISION AND MAY RESULT IN FATALITIES. THERE ARE MANY (AT LEAST 300) REPORTED ISSUES VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT I AM HAVING. FORD HAS NOT RECALLED THE VEHICLES TO FIX THIS MAJOR SAFETY FAULT. BY PUMPING THE BRAKES WE ARE ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BUT IT TAKES A LONGER DISTANCE TO STOP. LAST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS AUGUST 20, 2018 AND STAYED SOFT FOR THREE DAYS AND IS NOW WORKING FINE.
MY BRAKES DEPRESS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE STOPPING AND SCARED THEY ARE GOING TO STOP WORKING. WAS TOLD IT WAS THE ABS HYDRAULIC BRAKE CONTROL UNIT. SINCE THEN I HAVE INVESTIGATED IT ON THE INTERNET AND SEE THAT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM. COMPLAINED TO FORD & THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL OR ASSISTANCE AT THIS TIME. IF THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM THEN IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would hesitate to stop upon the depression of the brake pedal without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the brakes were bled; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that while driving at 25 MPH, she attempted to stop the vehicle but the brakes failed to operate. The contact rear-ended another vehicle and the airbags failed to deploy. There were no injuries as a result of the crash and no medical attention was needed. A police report was filed. The contact was able to drive the vehicle away from the scene; however, there was severe front-end damage to the vehicle. Two years later, the contact received two notifications for NHTSA Campaign Number:19V904000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) and NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V158000(AIRBAGS); however, the parts for the repairs were unavailable. Several dealers were notified about the recalls; however, the contact was informed by each one that the parts were not yet available. The manufacturer had been notified of the recall. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repairs. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

MY REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WON'T STAY CLOSED. THE LATCH SEEMS TO BE MALFUNCTIONING AND IT OPENED WHEN I WAS DRIVING. I WAD ABLE TO OULL OVER QUICKLY AND SECURE THE DOOR WITH ROPE BUT IT STILL OPENS SLIGHTLY. I PROBABLY USE THIS DOOR THE LEAST OF ALL 4, SO MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THAT THE OTHER 3 DOORS ARE SOON TO FOLLOW.
