NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2015 Ford Fusion. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Coolant Intrusion in the Block Led to white smoke coming out of the exhaust thick enough that I couldn't see as I tried to back out of the road.
My steering wheel came detached as I was driving. Forest is refusing to pay to have it towed to the dealership to be fixed. I do not understand why I have to pay $160 for a tow that was a defect of ford. At that point, it is no longer a free repair
The rear camera intermittently fails or displays a distorted image. I reported the issue to our local Ford dealership in April/May 2022, but at that time the necessary replacement parts were not available or in service. This was probably related to the various Covid 19 pandemic parts supply issues. Yesterday, while the car was being backed out of our garage, a young child was playing in the driveway directly in the vehicle’s rear blind spot. As usual, the camera was not functioning. Fortunately, an adult supervising the child noticed the situation and intervened, preventing what could have been a terrible tragedy. We have seen news reports about recalls addressing rear camera issues in many Ford vehicles—yet not for our 2015 Ford Fusion. How many serious incidents must occur before Ford takes action to correct this problem?
The rear backup camera screen is black or flickers, and sometimes shows an error message like "Camera not available." Ford just issued another recall for rear cameras for this issue, but deliberately excluded Ford Fusion vehicles. They need to include ASAP as this is a known, dangerous issue that can cause an accident.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel failed to turn in the intended direction. In addition, the contact heard an abnormally loud bang. The power steering failure warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The contact diagnosed the vehicle with rack and pinion failure and detached bolts. The contact stated that the bolts were corroded, and the rack and pinion gear had detached. The contact stated that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V632000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not associated with the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 146,000.
On 2/4/26, I experienced a slight skip while driving, But did not continue. The very next morning while in reverse, A winding sound started. Put car in drive pulled out onto main road, drove fine, not even half a mile. Stopped at sign, pulled out onto main road a main road, and car would not go, would not go in gear at all. No one was hurt, but received a few horn honks. Made it to side of road, put the car in sport/manual mode, did not help. Manage to make it about a mile up the road where I was able to safely park it in a parking lot. The check engine symbol came on a couple of weeks prior, but went away after a day. Did not come back on until this particular day 2/5/26. Nothing, no problems leading up to this. Conveniently the extended warranty went out on car 4k miles ago! And the dealership is not interested in helping me out at all. I had to have it towed to an independent shop, to get checked out, due to the dealership being booked 2 months out! I now have a car that I have only had for 1 year! With a blown transmission that I have to make payments on and can not drive!! There are no recalls, but there is a manufacturer issue, that we do not get notified about by mail or by email..? I read another complaint about this same thing, guy also making payments on a car he can not drive!!! This is ridiculous!! And heartbreaking if I can not get help with this! And you can bet the dealership will receive a less than favorable review!
My rear reverse camera has not been working properly. Sometimes the screen is completely black, sometimes the screen has lines in it , sometimes the camera acts like it is moving. It is very disturbing and dangerous. This is not weather related because it happens when it's sunny or raining. I can go a couple of days with out any issues and then randomly it has these issues. This has been going on for a while now so there isn't a particular day. This started happening early last year 2025
My 2015 Ford Fusion back over prevention camera system, is no longer working. I only get the black screen with error message "Camera is unavailable. Contact dealership". Which is creating a safety issue, while the vehicle is backing up. Reference Recall Number 25SA9 as many other ford products have the same issue. Many 2015 Ford models are covered under this recall. However, my fusion is not, because the recall only states 2016. My camera was troubleshot by a certified mechanic and was deemed a faulty camera by testing it with a different camera, and the system started working properly again.
I have lost power steering in the vehicle. The dash is popping up Service Advance Trac and Hill assist unavailable. I was looking into sensors and rack and pinion when I seen a recall, 19S26, which was listed for 2013-2016 ford fusions and Lincolns, but the recall isn’t specific to my VIN. As of now, the dealership of course won’t fix what is an expensive repair, although it does appear that my car should be included. The information cited salt corrosion in winter as a contributor. It is now late December in Northeast Ohio.
Back up camera screen glitches and goes black when backing up. I have to pull forward and try reversing again to get the camera to work. When backing out of my driveway it’s an inconvenience but backing out of a parking space is a much bigger issue. Half way out of the space it will glitch distorting the picture or goes black with no picture.
Rear camera continuously malfunctions with grainy/dark image, just completely failed with message on screen “Rear camera Not Available”. This puts myself and the people and vehicles around me at risk of collision when parking or reversing out of a parking space. This problem is common among many Ford Fusion owners.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V162000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and Ford Customer Satisfaction Program: 20R01, 22R01, and 25E01. The contact stated that after the vehicle was serviced, the vehicle was dropped off at the contact's residence. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact called the dealer, and the dealer picked up the vehicle. The contact was informed that the vehicle displayed a fuel pressure and ambient air temperature sensor issue. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The vehicle was at the residence. The contact parked and stopped driving the vehicle due to the safety concern. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,383.
The problem is the rear backup camera and I know Ford has recently issued recalls for certain models due to the camera being broken. The problem is that this is a 2015 model fusion and is being excluded from that recall but is having the exact same problems stated. It includes the camera not working, black lines appearing across the screen, or just flickering on and off. I think Ford should expand their rear camera problem to more years because it doesn’t stop at 2016 models.
Internal transmission bearing know for the TSB 19-2391. There was no threat to my safety or others. Yes the problem has been confirm with the dealer. The components has been inspected by an authorized Ford Dealer, Shaker Ford in Watertown, CT. There were nothing other than a humming noise coming from the transmission.
Rear View camera has distorted image or changes to a blue screen before saying camera unavailable. It is an intermittent issue that has been happening over many months. No accidents or injuries have been caused.
The rear camera has worked intermittently, it goes out and comes back on. It is a huge safety risk. Mg vehicle needs to be included in the recall.
Car began leaking coolant, overheating, smoking (white smoke) and misfiring on cylinder #3. Based on my research, this is an issue Ford knows about due to it being a defect in the design, yet I'm being told I have to pay to replace the engine. We replaced the spark plugs, coils, and nothing helped. We took it to a mechanic and were told we need an entire engine replacement and it won't be covered by Ford.
Back passenger seatbelt won't work. Mirror sensors go off randomly when no cars are around when I'm in reverse. Backup camera malfunctions and the screen turns black.

My rear view camera has not worked properly for almost two years now, and has progressively gotten worse over that time period. It will just go out when I’m in the middle of backing out of my driveway or a parking lot. It’s out more than it is on, and has almost caused a serious accident recently in a parking lot. It is an accident waiting to happen. It’s my understanding that this is a serious Ford issue. They have yet to acknowledge it though for my model. I’ve contacted Ford and the dealer to no avail.
While driving at 30MPH, vehicle lost power without any notice/warnings. Had the vehicle towed to dealer who misdiagnosed as transmission problem (quoted $8000 to swap). Had a second opinion and indeed it was the dreaded coolant intrusion in the engine, catalytic convertor which cause the loss of acceleration and the transmission was completely fine. This is a ridiculously common issue with the 1.5L engine and Ford has not offered any support other than "oh well" mentality. Prior to this, car lost coolant, I had to top it off every couple days, blew with smoke, sweet smell, all in line with coolant intrusion. Had the lines checked and repaired as recommended but about 6 months later this happened.
I got an engine temperature warning, then I noticed the coolant reservoir was empty. I filled it back up and everything went back to normal. I was driving down the interstate when the check engine light came on. I had a few misfires and was able to make it back to a dealership, who then diagnosed the vehicle and said it coolant intrusion due to an engine block leak. Charging over $9000 in repairs
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the RPM was elevated; however, while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was repaired under the NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V011000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); however, the recall repair failed to fix the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had occurred after the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 100,370.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy after the purchase. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the mileage was unknown. It was later discovered that the mileage was 53,522.
Backup camera broken, works only at random times. The Dealer confirmed today it needs to be replaced. Other 2015 Ford Fusions have already been recalled for this issue. I am asking you to expand it to include his VIN.
The transmission lost Park function, shifter position indicates the vehicle is in park. However, the indicator on the instrument panel indicates the vehicle is in drive. This happened after driving the car, and when I parked it. This condition allowed the ignition key to be removed with no instrument panel warning message or warning chime while exiting the vehicle indicating the vehicle is not secured in park. This could result in unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of injury or crash. I searched the problem online and found the problem was related a bushing in the end of the transmission selection cable. I was able to find the transmission cable. Upon close inspection, the cable was separated from the selection lever on the transmission. The end of the cable was missing the bushing. There was a safety recall in 2018, 18S20 that dealt with this problem. I had a replacement installed back in 2018. Now I am actually experiencing what the recall was supposed to correct/prevent. Is this recall still in effect? If not, can a new one be issued. I called a dealership, but they stated that the recall had expired.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start as intended. In addition, the contact noticed an abnormal sound with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with PCM failure. The contact was informed that the PCM needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact referenced an unknown recall with a similar failure description; however, the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was unknown.
I have a 2015 Ford Fusion Ecoboost t back in 2019 took it to Ford for regular maintenance and they told me it had a recall for another engine (coolant intrusion) at that time I had no problem with my car so needless to say I was shocked . Now 2026 August 15 my car shuts down coolant temperature warning comes on , I pulled over had a mechanic look at it and he tells me the head gasket is no good coolant intrusion This is a safety issue and cars could catch on fire Called Ford they said nothing they can do . All I can say is shame on Ford they need to do the right thing and fix these Safety issues.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormally loud sound coming from the engine compartment after the vehicle had switched from electric to gasoline. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 86,300.
A previously recalled issue has reoccurred in my vehicle. I’d like to report it and understand my options moving forward. My brake light is on and will not go off! Message appearing “hill assist not available”
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light remained illuminated, and the vehicle failed to immediately start. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed and determined there was coolant inside the cylinders and informed the contact that the engine long block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 100,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid. The contact stated that while reversing, the rearview camera failed to display an image. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rearview camera had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Front passenger door stopped closing on the 10th of July without any warning so I am forced into driving with a partially closed door tied with rope and I see that multiple people have filed a complaint about the same problem.
Coolant leaking into cylinder 2, misfire (P0302), overheating, and white smoke from exhaust. Mechanic diagnosed potential head gasket or coolant intrusion issue. Vehicle is out of warranty. This seems related to known issues on EcoBoost engines, including TSB 19-2208 for later models, but no recall exists for the 2015 model. Major safety concern and potential engine failure
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 70-75 MPH on the interstate, the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over and restarted the vehicle. The message "Transmission Not in Park" was displayed. The contact stated that while veering to the left lane, the vehicle started to shudder. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacture was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 216,700.
Rearview camera goes blank or sometimes freezes. Problem is intermittent but a safety issue due to affecting the visual display.
the rear view camera has only worked sporadically the last few years. Ford has issued recalls for this but not for my vehicle. Dangerous backing out for my family and other drivers.
My backup rear camera does not work more than half the time. The screen will go black or just not change at all and it will also say camera unavailable contact dealership. I have not been able to take it anywhere to get it looked at due to money issues. No warnings or anything. Just started one day in July 2025 and has kept doing it ever since.
Rear backup camera goes completely blank, shows a reversed imaged, or just an error code. Not part of the large recall in 2025. It should have been
Unintenional rollaway due to detached and degraded shift cable bushing. My car jerked me into a half spot when I pulled up to work this am. Upon looking, it would not go in gear at all. The gear shift says that it's in park and the dashboard says it's in neutral. Upon opening the hood and examining, I found that the bushing on the transmission cable was broken. I had no way to go so I called the Ford dealership and had someone let me pay over the phone for the part and I sent a coworker to pick up. Then I called a tow truck to tow my vehicle to Total Tire Care in Statesboro Georgia. I am going to have to pay the labor fee and also be without a vehicle all day. There are several 2015 Ford Fusions that have had a recall on this very part - but not my VIN. I think this needs to be changed and I should be able to have the cable inspected and replaced as needed.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while in reverse(R), the rearview camera image was distorted. A message "Check with Dealer" was displayed. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. In addition, the contact related the failure to an undisclosed recall for 2016 Ford Fusion vehicles specifically. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the front passenger’s side door failed to remain securely closed. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the door latch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to two other local independent mechanics, where it was diagnosed, and the failure was confirmed. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the door latch cable needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. In addition, the contact stated that as a temporary fix, the front passenger’s door was held closed with an extension cord but remained slightly open. The manufacturer was made not aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,359.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the RPM became elevated, the engine revved up, and there was an abnormally loud clunking or thumping sound before the transmission shifted into gear and the vehicle accelerated. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that there were contaminants in the transmission fluid, making the transmission fluid dark, and causing the transmission to fail. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that occasionally, while shifted into reverse, the rearview camera failed to properly display the rearview image as intended. The contact stated that the message "Contact the Dealer" was displayed on the instrument panel. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while exiting the vehicle, the contact became aware that the brake light was illuminated. The contact stated that while attempting to depress the brake pedal, the brake pedal was loose. There was an unknown warning light illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V162000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, was unable to confirm when the parts would become available. The failure mileage was 126,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the temperature gauge indicated that the engine was overheating, and the vehicle started losing motive power. The contact turned off the vehicle for three minutes and then immediately drove the vehicle to the local mechanic. The vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics. The first independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the head gasket had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the mechanic was unable to perform the repair. The vehicle was then towed to the second independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the VIN associated with the failure. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 144,000.
My 2015 Ford Fusion with the 1.5L EcoBoost engine experienced a complete engine failure due to a coolant intrusion in cylinder 3, which is consistent with Ford TSB 20-2100. In December 2023, I brought the car to the dealership due to rough starting and a non-start issue. No coolant related codes were detected at the time. In May 2025, the vehicle began running roughly and showed codes PO316 and PO303. The dealership diagnosed low coolant and coolant intrusion into cylinder 3, with a rust and fouled spark plug. I believe this is a progressively safety-related engine defect that can lead to sudden loss of power and unsafe driving conditions.
After check engine light and the coolant fluid low light came on, I took it to a ford dealership and was told that they found there was a coolant leak which caused the engine to fail and that the short engine block needed to be replaced and it would be 9000 dollars to repair. so we are now faced with paying for a repair that is double what the car is worth or get a new car. there was never a recall for the coolant leak even though Ford knows its a known issue.
I only have 85k miles on my 2015 Ford Fusion. One day the check engine light came on, my car started stalling, shaking, and making noise. I stopped the car and checked the engine- coolant was exhausted. Upon taking to get it checked- the head gasket and short block were blown/cracked. The coolant had leaked into the engine. This should not have happened on a car with this low of mileage. I did my research and this is a well known issue for Ford Fusions during this time range. I called Ford and they told me there is nothing that they could do.
