TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65-75 MPH, SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED AN ABNORMAL READING OF 20 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER FOR THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 48,000.
2005 FORD MUSTANG BEEN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT 3 TIMES FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO FILL GAS TANK, SPEWS OUT EVEN AT A TRICKLE FROM THE PUMP 4TH TIME RETURNED TO DEALER AND SAID THERE WAS A REPAIR BUT NOW MY WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT. THEY KNEW THE REPAIR WAS AVAILABLE LONG AGO. SURELY THIS QUALIFIES AS A DEFECT IN THE SYSTEM. WHEN IT HAPPENS MY WIFE GETS COVERED IN GAS SHOOTING OUT THE FILLER NECK. *TR
THERE IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT THAT ALLOWS WATER LEAKAGE INTO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL/SMART BOX JUNCTION AND SUBSEQUENTLY INTO THE VEHICLE ITSELF. RESULTANT ISSUES INCLUDE THE INABILITY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE (FROZEN SHIFT), ELECTRICAL FAILURE WITH LOSS OF INSTRUMENTS INCLUDING VARIOUS GAUGES, BRAKE LIGHTS, VENTILATION/AC, POWER WINDOWS, AND HEADLIGHTS, AND PHYSICAL WATER DAMAGE (MOLD/MILDEW). FORD IS AWARE OF THE DEFECT AND LATER MODELS WERE REDESIGNED TO COMPENSATE FOR THE FLAW. HOWEVER, FORD REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL OR ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEFICIENCY, NOR WILL THEY PROVIDE ANY KIND OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH THE NECESSARY REPAIRS DIRECTLY CAUSED BY THIS DEFECT. SHOULD THE MUSTANG EXPERIENCE THE ABOVE MENTIONED ELECTRICAL FAILURES WHILE BEING DRIVEN, AN ACCIDENT COULD OCCUR. THERE ARE NUMEROUS SIMILAR INCIDENTS REPORTED ABOUT THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE, AND FORD MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. I SPOKE TO FORD "CUSTOMER SERVICE" ON 5/5/11 TO REPORT THE ISSUE AND REQUEST FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE REPAIRS. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST, AND HAVE THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRM THE "DEFECT". I MADE A FOLLOW-UP CALL TO FORD "CUSTOMER SERVICE" ON 5/9/10 TO REPORT THAT THE SERVICE MANAGER DID CONFIRM THE DEFECT AND THAT HE HAD SEEN SIMILAR PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, FORD SAID THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE, WOULD NOT PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, AND THAT I WAS "MISINFORMED" BY MY INITIAL CALL TO FORD IN GIVING ME HOPE THEY COULD SOMEHOW HELP ME. ADDITIONALLY, THEY STATED THAT I "SHOULD NOT EXPECT MY FORD VEHICLE TO LAST BEYOND 100K MILES". IN THE MEANTIME, WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TOWING, DIAGNOSTIC, AND REPAIR BILLS, SO THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS PROFITING FROM THIS. THIS WAS OUR FOURTH FORD VEHICLE, AND IT WILL CERTAINLY BE OUR LAST.
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ON 2005 FORD MUSTANG V6 COUPE. SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO SHOW INCORRECT SPEEDS. SOMETIMES IT IS 15-20 MPH BELOW ACTUAL SPEED AND OCCASIONALLY DROPS TO ZERO OR BELOW. *TR
2005 FORD MUSTANG LEAKING WHEN IT RAINS. I HAVE READ PLENTY OF FORMS THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM THAT NO ONE KNOWS WHY OR HOW. IF THIS IS NOT CORRECTED IT COULD CAUSE HEALTH PROBLEMS DUE TO MILDEW OR FIRE DUE TO THE MOISTURE. *TR
I OWN A 2005 FORD MUSTANG GT RAIN LEAKS INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE INTERIOR ABOVE THE FUSE AND SMART JUNCTION BOX. WHEN I WAS DRIVING IT IN THE RAIN I LOST ALL ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS IE HEADLIGHTS,BRAKE LIGHTS WIPERS, HORN AND SO ON. LUCKILY I WAS DRIVING DURING THE DAY AND COULD SEE HAD IT BEEN NIGHT TIME I WOULD HAVE CRASHED. I CALLED MY FORD DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT ARE AWARE OF THE WATER LEAKS WITH THE MUSTANGS BUT DID NOT OFFER TO FIX FOR A DEFECT ON THEIR FAULT. A SEARCH OF THE INTERNET SHOWS MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WORKS OFF AND ON. RPM STUCK. SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING ON LONG RIDES. *TR
I OWN A 2005 MUSTANG GT COUPE 5-SPEED WHICH HAS BEEN GARAGED SINCE IT WAS PICKED UP FROM MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. AT TIME OF INCIDENT IT HAD 29,*** MILES. THE CAR WAS ONLY HAND WASHED AND IN ONLY A HANDFUL OF RAINY DAYS. DURING THE WINTER MONTHS THE CAR GETS TAKEN OFF FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE AND COVERED. WHEN SPRING TIME ARRIVED IT WAS UNCOVERED AND READY TO BE ON THE ROAD AGAIN. THE CAR STARTED UP AS IT WOULD WHEN RUNNING IT THOUGH THE WINTER. UNFORTUNATELY THE CAR WAS LEFT UNCOVERED IN A RAINSTORM SHORTLY AFTER. THE NEXT DAY WHEN IT WAS STARTED THE CLUSTER GAUGE WENT OUT. WHITE SMOKE BEGAN TO COME UP AND OUT FROM UNDER THE DASHBOARD. THE EXTREME SMELL OF ELECTRICAL FIRE WAS PRESENT. THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND FUSES INSPECTED. THERE WAS DAMPNESS WITHIN THE PASSENGER SIDE CARPET. SO, I THEN CHECKED THE SMART JUNCTION BOX* LOCATED IN THE PASSENGER SIDE KICK PANEL. IT HAD A THIN WHITE SHEET OF FOAM COVERING IT WHICH LOOKED ODD TO ME. I SAW THAT THE FUSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CLUSTER GAUGE HAD BURNT UP AND BROKE. I REPLACED IT WITH THE SAME AMP FUSE AND IT POPPED THEN SMOKE ONCE AGAIN CAME OUT FROM THE DASHBOARD AND THE SAME ELECTRICAL SMELL FOLLOWED. NOT ONE LIGHT OR NEEDLE WORKS ON THE GAUGES OTHER THAN THE YELLOW AIRBAG LIGHT WHICH REMAINS ON. TRACTION CONTROL BUTTON, REVERSE LIGHTS, DOOR/LIGHT CHIME, AND AC DO NOT WORK. TSB 08-26-7 REPORT EXISTS ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE CAR WAS PURCHASED WONT HONOR THEIR ROLE IN THIS ISSUE. I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY DIRECTLY AND THEY HAD A SUPERVISOR CALL ME A FEW DAYS LATER. THE SUPERVISOR STATED I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING TO HAVE THE CAR DIAGNOSED AND FIXED. FORD OBVIOUSLY KNOWS OF THE ISSUE WHICH IS WHY THEY PUT A "BAND-AID" OF A SHEET OF FOAM TO TRY TO KEEP WATER THAT THEY KNEW WOULD LEAK ONTO THE SJB. THE TSB REPORT WAS CREATED BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY PROBLEMS DUE TO THE LEAK. IT'S BEEN MONTHS OF RESEARCHING. FORD SHOULD ISSUE A WARNING THAT THEIR CARS WILL HAVE A MAJOR ELECTRICAL FAILURE IF RAINED ON. *TR
MY 2005 FORD MUSTANG FAILED VIRGINIA STATE SAFETY INSPECTION DUE TO ALL 3 EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLES NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT BY FORD (TSB 0654) AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. NUMEROUS OWNERS FOUND ON THE WWW HAVE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND HAVE FACED LARGE REPAIR COST ($500-700) AS WELL AS VEHICLES ROLLING OUT INTO THE STREET CAUSING ACCIDENTS WHEN LEFT UNATTENDED ON INCLINES. THE PARKING BRAKES HAVE LOCKED UP IN COLD WEATHER. THIS IN MY OPINION IS A SAFETY ITEM AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY. PLEASE MAKE FORD ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE REALLY GETS HURT. *TR
MY FORD MUSTANG HAS NOW 32K MILES ON IT PURCHASED NEW AND ONLY ONE OWNER/DRIVER. ALL OF MY INSTRUMENT ARE NO LONGER WORKING OR WORK ERRATICALLY. I AM HAVING PROBLEMS KNOWING WHAT SPEED I AM TRAVELING, IF THERE IS GAS IN MY CAR. I AM A WOMAN WHO DOES NOT LIKE TO GET STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY AND THIS IS NOW A BIG FEAR. I CANNOT TELL WHAT MY SPEED IS AND THEREFORE AM VERY LEARY DRIVING UNLESS WITH TRAFFIC SO I CAN KEEP WITH THEM. IT IS APPARENT ALOT OF OTHERS ARE ALSO COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM TO THE POINT IT STARTS TO CAUSE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. IS THERE SOMETHING WE CAN DO TO GET THIS UP AS A RECALL, WHAT OPTIONS DO WE HAVE? I CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE ALL CLUSTERS FOR 600-700 DOLLARS AND FIND OUT IT IS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. I HAVE AN 05 MUSTANG, AUTOMATIC, V6 IT HAS ABOUT 65,000 MILES. I LIKE EVERYONE ELSE AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE GAUGES AND THE CAR STALLING FOR NO REASON. I WAS TOLD THAT THESE ITEMS, THE FUEL GAUGE, TACHOMETER PARTS OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ARE FAULTY IN MOST 2005 MUSTANGS. THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY PROBLEMS THAT FORD CHANGED IT FOR 2006 MODELS. I WAS FURTHER INFORMED THAT IF ENOUGH OWNERS COMPLAINED THAT A RECALL WOULD BE ACTIVATED. HOPEFULLY I'LL BE HEARING FROM YOU AND OR FORD MOTOR COMPANY. THANK YOU. *JS
I'VE A FORD MUSTANG 2005 V6 [COUP] WITH 66,000 MILES ON IT. FEW MONTHS BACK, I WAS DRIVING AND SUDDENLY REALIZED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER GAUGE JUMPED TO 120 MPH EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY. OF LATE, MY TEMPERATURE GAUGE IS ALSO GIVING ERRATIC READINGS.. THIS IS A PROBLEM WHICH SEEMS TO BE INHERENT IN THE CAR ITSELF SINCE THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED IN UMPTEENTH INTERNET FORUMS PARTICULARLY FOR FORD MUSTANG 2005 V6. 2005 FORD MUSTANG COUP V6 - INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILURE - HEADLIGHT FAILURE -TURN SIGNAL FAILURE - FALSE INFORMATION VIA DIGITAL INSTRUMENT DISPLAY - DOOR LOCK FAILURE - RADIO FAILURE. INDICATIONS OF FAILURE BEGAN IN JANUARY 2010 WITH SPEEDOMETER FAILURE. IN THE FALL OF 2010, THE CHARGING SYSTEM GAUGE FAILED BUT IN-CAR SYSTEM CHECK REPORTED ALL WAS NORMAL. DURING THE SUMMER, SPEEDOMETER RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATIONS. WINTER OF 2010, SPEEDOMETER FAILED AGAIN. END OF JANUARY DURING WARM WEATHER, SPEEDOMETER RETURN TO NORMAL OPERATION. FEBRUARY 1, SPEEDOMETER FAILS AGAIN. FEBRUARY 2, TICKING SOUND FROM BEHIND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS NOTICED WHEN IGNITION IS TURNED OFF AND SPEEDOMETER FAILS. ON FEBRUARY 4, 2011, ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED, ON BOARD DIAGNOSTICS REPORTED TRACTION CONTROL FAILURE, LOW BRAKE FLUID, LOW OIL PRESSURE, PARKING BRAKE ON, LOW FUEL WARNING, SEATBELT WARNING, ABS WARNING. AT THE SAME TIME, THE POWER LOCKS FAILED, POWER WINDOWS FAILED, SECURITY SYSTEM FAILED, SERVICE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, INTERIOR LIGHTS FAILED, AND RADIO FAILED, AND WINDSHIELD WIPER FAILS. ALL THESE FAILURES/INCIDENTS HAPPEN IN COLD WEATHER ONLY. *TR

SPEEDOMETER AND RPM WOULD JUMP AROUND THEN IT JUST STOPPED WORKING THEN MY TEMP GAUGE WENT ALL THE WAY PAST H AND ITS STUCK THERE. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION ON MY MUSTANG LAST WINTER. SOME DAYS IT WOULD WORK FINE, OTHER DAYS THE NEEDLE WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL, AND ON OTHER DAYS IT WOULD READ A SPEED THAT WAS BELOW WHAT I BELIEVE I WAS DRIVING BASED ON THE OTHER VEHICLES TRAVELING AROUND ME AND MY EXPERIENCE DRIVING MY CAR. THE SPEEDOMETER WAS MOSTLY FINE OVER THE SUMMER, EXCEPT ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS WHERE MY SPEEDOMETER WAS READING 10-15 MPH UNDER WHAT I WAS DRIVING (AT LEAST WHAT I THINK I WAS DRIVING BASED ON OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD). I AM NOT SURE WHAT CAUSED IT, BUT I WOULD STOP ON A LONG ROAD TRIP AND WHEN I GOT IN AND RESTARTED MY CAR THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD BE READING INCORRECTLY. NOW THAT THE WEATHER HAS TURNED COLD AGAIN FOR FALL MY SPEEDOMETER AND NOW MY TACHOMETER HAVE QUIT WORKING PROPERLY. THEY SPEEDOMETER HARDLY EVER WORKS CORRECTLY NOW. MOSTLY, THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE DOESN'T MOVE AND WHEN IT DOES IT IS SHOWING A SPEED BELOW WHAT I AM DRIVING. AS FOR THE TACHOMETER, IT NOW LONGER WORKS CORRECTLY AS IT IS CURRENTLY POINTING AT 6:00 O'CLOCK. THE NEEDLE STILL MOVES, BUT IT IS NOT READING ANYTHING WHEN ITS STARTING POSITION IS AT 6:00 O'CLOCK. *TR
THE CAR'S INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SUDDENLY COMPLETELY MALFUNCTIONED, THE "FAIL-SAFE" ENGINE SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN AND TO SUDDENLY STOP THE CAR IN MOVING TRAFFIC. THIS WAS TRULY A LIFE-ENDANGERING SITUATION. THE SPEEDOMETER AND THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE DIALS OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAD BEEN ERRATIC IN THE PAST WEEKS BEFORE THE INCIDENT. OBVIOUSLY, THIS CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. FOR MORE THAN FIVE WEEKS FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS CLAIMED TO HAVE NO INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS AVAILABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
FORD 05 MUSTANG SPEEDOMETER READS ERRATIC. READS 100 MPH WHILE DRIVING AT 40MPH. NOT CONSISTENT RESETS ITSELF AND COMES PROBLEM COMES BACK AGAIN. RESEARCHED ON MUSTANG FORMS ON WEB, SEVERAL MUSTANG OWNERS ARE REPORTING THIS. STARTED IN JAN AND ONGOING. *LN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG GT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, SHE NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS READING AN INACCURATE SPEED OF 65 MPH. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE AND PARKED IT YET THE SPEEDOMETER CONTINUED TO DISPLAY 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY FAILURES SIMILAR TO HERS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 46,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE 407 TRAVELING 110 KM PER HOUR. WINDOWS, RADIO, FAN, LIGHTS, EMERGENCY LIGHTS STARTED TO FAIL. THE CAR WAS LOSING SPEED. IT BROKE DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY AND EMERGENCY LIGHTS NOTHING WOULD WORK. I CALLED 911 BECAUSE I WAS SCARED OF GETTING HIT. POLICE CAME AND MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY COSTING 566.00. A MONTH LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I FIND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD VEHICLES, A FAULTY FIREWALL SEAL CAUSING WATER DAMAGE TO THE SMART JUNCTION BOX. I FOUND MANY FORD CONSUMERS ONLINE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A DANGER TO OUR HIGHWAYS. FORD IS NOW TELLING ME THIS WILL COST 3000.00 TO FIX, NOT ONLY IS THEIR MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT A DANGER, IT IS COSTING CONSUMERS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. THEY HAVE LIED TO ME SAYING IT IS CAUSED BY A CRACK IN MY WINDOW. THEY ARE TRYING TO COVER UP A BAD DEFECT. *TR
GAS TANK WILL NO LONGER ACCEPT GAS FROM A GAS STATION PUMP. WE HAVE REPEATED SHUT OFFS OF THE PUMP. CAN ONLY USE PUMP BY TURNING GAS PUMP UPSIDE DOWN. THIS IS A PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUE AS GAS WILL OVERFLOW THE TANK AND WILL SPRAY INTO THE GROUND. FORD IS AWARE OF PROBLEM AS A DESIGN DEFECT, BUT WILL ONLY COVER EXPENSE IF CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS A PROBLEM IN 2005 AND 2006 MUSTANGS WHICH ARE MOST LIKELY OUT OF WARRANTY. FORD SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM WHEN IT OCCURS. *TR

THE ENGINE CLUSTER FOR MY 2005 MUSTANG IS MALFUNCTIONING. THE RPM GAUGE IS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. I WAS TOLD BY A FORD DEALER THAT THIS WAS A COMMON MALFUNCTION. *TR
2005 FORD MUSTANG WITH PARKING BRAKE PROBLEMS WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BE DAMAGED AFTER ROLLING DOWN A HILL. CONSUMER IS ALSO EXPRESSING DISCONTENT WITH THE FORD COMPANY. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE DOOR HANDLES WERE REPLACED THREE TIMES, THE CONVERTIBLE TOP HAD TO BE REPLACED, A NEW FUEL PUMP WAS NEEDED WHICH WAS RECALLED, A NEW RADIO WAS INSTALLED, AND THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED TWICE. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG GT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
ALL GAUGES STOPPED WORKING. FIRST SPEEDOMETER, THAN THE TACT, GAS GAUGE, AND FINALLY THE HOT/COLD GAUGE. I DON'T KNOW HOW FAST I'M GOING AND I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE IN MY CAR. EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY CAR IT'S A GUESSING GAME BETWEEN GAS AND SPEED. FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR EVEN WORSE KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS. WENT TO START MY CAR AND NOTICED THE SPEEDOMETER WAS SITTING ON 20MPH. UP TO THIS POINT, IT HAD NO PROBLEMS. I TRIED TO RESET ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURER INSTRUCTIONS WITH NO SUCCESS. A FEW DAYS LATER IT HAD MOVED UP TO 80MPH. AFTER A FEW MORE TRIPS AND SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RESET THE SPEEDOMETER, IT FINALLY DROPPED BACK DOWN TO 0. HOWEVER, LESS THAN A MONTH LATER, I HAVE NOTICED IT MOVING BACK UP. UP TO THIS POINT I HAVE NOT REPLACED ANY PARTS AS IT IS UNKNOWN WHAT PART IS NOT CAUSING THE ISSUE. *TR

WHILE TRAVELING AT 30 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD READ 80 MPH. ALSO THE FUEL GAUGE WAS INOPERABLE AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH GAS WAS IN THE TANK. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
OVER TIME, THE VEHICLE GAS TANK HAS DEVELOPED A CONDITION WHERE FILLING UP THE TANK PREMATURELY CAUSES THE GAS PUMP TO SHUT OFF PRIOR TO THE TANK BEING FULL OF GAS. TYPICALLY AFTER ONLY A FEW SECONDS. IF YOU TRY TO ENGAGE THE PUMP AGAIN, A BUILDUP OF PRESSURE CAN CAUSE GASOLINE TO SHOOT BACK OUT OF THE TANK AND ALL OVER THE GROUND AND THE PERSON PUMPING GAS. THE ONLY WAY AROUND THIS IS TO FILL THE TANK WITH THE NOZZLE UPSIDE DOWN. SOMEHOW THIS DISENGAGES WHATEVER SAFETY MECHANISM THE GAS PUMP HAS, AND ALLOWS THE USER TO PUMP A FULL TANK OF GAS. FORD EVEN HAS A TSB RELATED TO THIS ISSUE. IT STATES SOMETHING TO THE POINT OF A DESIGN FLAW IN THE GAS TANK. IT'S ONLY REMEDY IS TO REPLACE THE TANK, OR THEY LITERALLY SUGGEST GOING TO A DIFFERENT GAS STATION. SOME PUMPS ARE DIFFERENT AND THAT USED TO WORK, BUT AT THIS POINT THERE IS NOT PUMP THAT I DO NOT ENCOUNTER THIS ISSUE WITH.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND WHEN HIS FOOT WAS SLIGHTLY POSITIONED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO RAPIDLY ACCELERATE. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED CONTINUOUSLY AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN CAUSING DIFFICULTY IN GAINING STEERING CONTROL; AS A RESULT TO THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO SEVERAL BUSHES. I HAVE A 2005 FORD MUSTANG AND WENT TO GO TO WORK AND MY EMERGENCY BRAKE WILL NOT RELEASE. I CAN NOT DRIVE MY CAR. LEFT IT RUNNING FOR 20 MINUTES TO LET IT WARM UP BUT IT STILL WILL NOT RELEASE. WHILE DRIVING IN THE EVENING THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE AND FUEL GAUGES FAILED. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE GRADUALLY KEPT CLIMBING HIGHER ABOVE THE RED LINE. AN INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT REVELED THAT THE ENGINE WAS OPERATING AT NORMAL TEMPERATURES. THE FUEL GAUGE ALSO STARTED REGISTERING INCORRECT READING; GRADUALLY MOVING PAST THE FULL LINE EVEN THOUGH NO FUEL WAS ADDED. STARTING AND STOPPING THE ENGINE CAUSED THE FUEL GAUGES AND TEMPERATURE GAUGES TO TURN CLOCKWISE (OR HIGHER). BOTH GAUGES CURRENTLY POINT DOWN AND ARE EFFECTIVELY USELESS. THE REPAIR SHOP IN RESEARCHING HOW TO REPLACE OR REPAIR THE COMPONENT AND HOW MUCH THE PART WILL COST. THE FAILED COMPONENTS APPEAR TO BE LINKED TO THE VEHICLE'S SPEEDOMETER. *TR

THE CONTACT SAW WATER FROM THE RAIN LEAKING ONTO THE FRONT PASSENGER FLOORBOARD AND ON THE ELECTRICAL BOX. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED HIM THAT THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE SERVICE WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,100.
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 FORD MUSTANG WITH A STANDARD TRANSMISSION. THIS MORNING (WITH OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES IN THE 20S) AS I STARTED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY TO GO TO WORK, MY CAR STALLED. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND TRIED ONE MORE TO MOVE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. ON THE THIRD ATTEMPT, I WAS APPLIED MORE FUEL TO GET THE CAR MOVING, BUT MY BACK WHEELS WERE VERY HESITANT (AS IF THE BRAKES WERE LOCKED UP). I DROVE THE CAR SEVERAL BLOCKS TO MY REPAIR FACILITY. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR, I COULD SMELL THAT THE BRAKES HAD GOTTEN HOT. MY SERVICE ASSOCIATE TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE GARAGE AND PUT IT ON THE LIFT TO INSPECT. HE STATED THAT THE BRAKES HAD SEIZED (UNKNOWN REASON AT THIS TIME). UPON REMOVAL OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS, MOST LIKELY, SOME MOISTURE IN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LINE AND THAT DURING THE SHORT TIME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE HEATED GARAGE THE LINE HAD UNFROZEN (MELTED). HE SUGGESTED THAT I NOT USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FOR PARKING IN SUBFREEZING TEMPS. HE ALSO STATED THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND THAT I SHOULD CONTACT FORD FOR FINAL RESOLUTION. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHO READ A BULLETIN CONFIRMING THAT FORD IS, IN FACT, AWARE OF THIS DEFECT IN THE ORIGINAL EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE / BOOT. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN WENT ON TO SAY THAT FORD HAS AN IMPROVED PART AND THAT THE BOOT AND CABLE LINING HAVE NEW FEATURES TO RESOLVE THE DEFECT. I THEN CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO ALSO ACKNOWLEDGED THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THIS DEFECT, BUT AT THIS TIME THERE IS NO RECALL AND THAT FORD'S CURRENT POLICY DISALLOWS REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE STATED DEFECT. FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH TO MYSELF, PASSENGERS AND ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE IN THE VICINITY DURING A FAILURE WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. AT THIS POINT, I OBVIOUSLY NEED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. SINCE THERE IS NO CURRENT RECALL FORD HAS DECLINED REIMBURSEMENT. *TR

AROUND SAME TIME SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE STARTED STICKING AT RANDOM POINTS, MORE NOTICEABLE AS WEATHER GOT COOLER. WOULD GO UP WITH ACCELERATION BUT NOT ALL THE WAY BACK DOWN WHEN BRAKING. NEEDLE IS NOW STUCK ALL THE WAY CW ON TRIP RESET BUTTON. ODOMETER STILL WORKS CORRECTLY. THEN SAME WITH TACHOMETER A FEW MONTHS LATER. FINALLY QUIT LOOKING AT GAUGE CLUSTER WHILE DRIVING, NOT REALLY SURE WHEN COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE GOT STUCK AND QUIT WORKING. HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD SEEMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM IN THE NEXT YEAR MODEL, BUT STILL REFUSE ANY SENSIBLE SOLUTION FOR AFFECTED VEHICLES IN 2005. TO HAVE ISSUE FIXED BY FORD: $660 FOR NEW INSTRUMENT CLUSTER + LABOR. *TR
