MY FIRST PROBLEM WAS WHEN THE GAS GAUGE STOPPED WORKING, THANK GOODNESS THE LOW FUEL LIGHT STILL WORKS. THEN THE SPEEDOMETER HAD DAYS WHEN IT WOULD NOT WORK, NOW IT JUST STAYS ON 40MPH. NEXT, THE TEMP GAGE DECIDED TO STAY ON HOT AND NOW IT JUST POINTS STRAIGHT DOWN. FINALLY ON MY WAY HOME TODAY, THE TACH STOPPED WORKING! MY CAR ONLY HAS 48000 MILES ON IT. I FORGOT THERE IS ONE MORE PROBLEM, THE DRIVER SEAT CONTROLS STILL WORK BUT THE PANEL HAS COME LOOSE FROM THE SEAT. WHO KNEW MY DREAM CAR WOULD BE A NIGHTMARE. *TR
MY SPEEDOMETER GAUGE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN IN HIGH ENOUGH HEAT OR LOW ENOUGH COLD, THE SPEEDOMETER JUMPS FROM 10 TO 40 OR ALL THE WAY TO 120MPH WHEN THE CAR IS NOT EVEN MOVING. THIS IS DANGEROUS! I MAY BE ON THE HIGHWAY THINKING I'M GOING 50 WHEN IN REALITY I'M GOING SLOWER OR FASTER! *TR
MY VEHICLE'S INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INCLUDING THE SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, FUEL, AND TEMPERATURE GAUGES EITHER DO NOT WORK AT ALL OR ARE ERRATIC. INARGUABLY, THESE GAUGES ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE SAFE OPERATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE. AFTER DOING INTERNET RESEARCH, I WAS SHOCKED TO LEARN THAT THOUSANDS OF OTHER OWNERS OF THIS SAME VEHICLE ARE HAVING OR HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. WHEN I CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS UNSAFE PRODUCT FAILURE, I WAS EVEN MORE SHOCKED TO LEARN THAT ALTHOUGH LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF ITS CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE AND HAVE CALLED FORD TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT, NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. BECAUSE OF THE PERVASIVENESS OF THIS PROBLEM, A RECALL IS LONG OVERDUE. WHEN IS THE NHTSA GOING TO TAKE ACTION? *TR
NONE OF THE GAUGES ON THIS VEHICLE WORK. INCLUDING SPEED/TEMP/OIL/FUEL. *TR
TOOK CAR IN FOR SAFETY INSPECTION, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE LOWER ARM CONTROLS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER FOR THE CAR TO PASS INSPECTION, THE CAR ONLY HAD 24,244 MILES AND I FOUND OUT ON LINE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL TO REPLACE THEM BUT ACCORDING TO THE FORD REP MY VIN # WAS NOT IN THE RECALL. *TR
I FIRST STARTED HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE TEMP GAUGE NOT WORKING. NOW WHEN IT IS COLD OUTSIDE MY SPEEDOMETER AND RPM METER ARE NOT FUNCTIONING UNTIL THE CAR IS WARM ENOUGH. THIS FIRST HAPPENED IN FEB 2010 BUT JUST ONE TIME. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IT WAS COLD OUT AND MY SPEEDOMETER WENT FROM 0 TO 120 WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT THEN IT STUCK THERE AND DID NOT FIX ITSELF TILL THE LAST PART OF THAT DAY. NOW IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN EACH TIME IT IS COLD OUT THE SPEEDOMETER JUST STAYS BELOW ZERO AND SO DOES THE RPM UNTIL I DRIVE FOR 5 MILES OR SO. IT SEEMS TO ONLY BE HAPPENING WHEN IT IS COLD OUT ABOUT 65 AND BELOW WEATHER. TEMP GAUGE STILL NOT WORKING AND HAS BEEN POINTING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CLUSTER SINCE THEN. IT STILL MOVES LIKE IT WANTS TO WORK BUT NEVER GOES BACK TO NORMAL. FORD SAYS ITS THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER BUT I AM A SINGLE MOTHER AND CAN NOT AFFORD TO PAY 700 TO 1000 DOLLARS TO FIX WHAT I THINK SHOULD BE A DEFECT BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF PEOPLE ONLINE POSTING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE AND THEY ARE ALL THE 2005 MODELS. SOMEONE HELP PLEASE. I LOVE MY CAR SO MUCH. I HAVE HAD IT FOR 5 YEARS NOW AND STILL LOVE IT. THANKS. *TR
SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE MOVES WITH SPEED INCREASE, BUT DOES NOT REVERSE MOTION WITH SPEED DECREASE. *JS
LOST POWER STEERING WHEN BELT CAME OFF. THE HARMONIC BALANCER SEPARATED WITH THE PULLEY PART MOVING 1 1/2" TOWARD THE MOTOR TAKING IT OUT OF ALIGNMENT WITH THE REST OF THE BELT. FORD ADMITTED THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE HARMONIC BALANCERS AND THERE IS A NATIONWIDE BACK ORDER ON THEM. *TR
MY CAR IS A 2005 MUSTANG GT WITH ONLY 20250 MILES. I USUALLY KEEP IT IN THE GARAGE, MAINLY DRIVING ON PLEASANT WEEKENDS. ON WEDNESDAY THE 11TH, I WAS DRIVING IN A HEAVY RAIN WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALMOST ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS (I.E. NO POWER TO ANY LIGHTS, RADIO, POWER WINDOWS, DOOR LOCKS ETC.). ALL OF THE IDIOT LIGHTS CAME ON INDICATING FAILURE ACROSS THE BOARD. THE TRACTION CONTROL WAS ALSO TURNED OFF. WHEN I GOT IT HOME, I NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE CARPET WAS WET. I OPENED THE PASSENGER SIDE ACCESS PANEL AND DISCOVERED WATER DRIPPING FROM THE GEM (GENERIC ELECTRIC MODULE). THE UNIT HAD OBVIOUSLY SHORTED OUT CAUSING THE PROBLEMS (CONFIRMED BY WEB RESEARCH AT SEVERAL MUSTANG WEB SITES). NEITHER THE DEALERSHIP OR FORD WILL PAY FOR THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE CAR IS 5 YEARS OLD, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS LOW MILEAGE. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I PURCHASED DOES NOT COVER THIS DAMAGE EITHER. SEARCHING FORD'S TSBS, REVEALED A TSB ON THE WATER PROBLEM, BUT NOTHING ON THE GEM. FORD IS AWARE OF THE SITUATION, BASED ON OTHER COMPLAINTS, BUT HAS NOT RECALLED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF DRYING OUT AND HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. ESTIMATED COST IS AROUND $1000.00 I BELIEVE THIS IS A CRITICAL ISSUE. HAD THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED DURING NIGHTTIME I WOULD HAVE BEEN INSTANTLY BLIND DUE TO THE LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS, AND HIDDEN FROM OTHER DRIVERS DUE TO LACK OF REAR LIGHTS AND TURN INDICATORS. WITH THE LOSS OF TRACTION CONTROL WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN, THE CHANCE OF LOOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IS AN INCREASED DANGER TO THE OCCUPANTS, OTHER DRIVERS, PEDESTRIANS, AND PROPERTY. THIS CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
THIS HAS BEEN AND STILL IS A ON GOING SAFETY ISSUE TO ME AND THE FAMILY. WHEN DRIVING, NORMALLY AT A LOW SPEED THE ENGINE WILL "DIE", OF COURSE I LOSE ALL POWER TO THE STEERING, BRAKING, ETC. I MAKE AN ATTEMPT TO START IT, IT WILL START BUT, WHEN I TRY TO MOVE THE VEHICLE, IT DIES AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPEN TO ME IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS, WHEN I PULL UP TO A RED LIGHT, OR BEHIND A VEHICLE. I HAVE NO FORWARNING OF THE EVENT ABOUT TO TAKE PLACE. TWO WEEKS AGO IT OCCURRED WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND IT TOOK HER ABOUT 40 MINUTES TO GET THE CAR RUNNING. AND YESTERDAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING, AFTER LEAVING MY GARAGE AND DROVE LESS THAN 1/2 MILE, THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING, AND I TRAVELED ABOUT 2 MILES AND IT STOPPED AT LEAST 5 TIMES BEFORE I COULD PARK. WE WENT SHOPPING AND CAME BACK OUT AND IT STARTED AND GAVE ME NO PROBLEM GETTING HOME. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP, R&R FUEL TANK, REPLACED FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. WAS TOLD BY ONE OF THE TECHNICIANS I SHOULD TREAT THE FUEL AT LEASE EVERY TWO TANK FILL UPS. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS GOING TO OCCUR AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND INJURY MY FAMILY AND/OR OTHER DRIVERS. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD AND HAVE BEEN INFORMED THERE IS NO RECALLS AGAINST THE VIN NUMBER. I CAN NOT BELIEVE I AM THE ONLY MUSTANG OWNER THAT IS HAVING THE PROBLEM. *TR
ONE INCIDENT, DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN CAR RAN OUT OF GAS AND SAW THE AS GAS GUAGE INDICATOR FACING STRAIGHT DOWN, TEMPERATURE GUAGE AND THE TACHOMETER WAS NOT WORKING. THE CAR RAN OUT OF GAS ON MAJOR HIGH WAY AND MY DAUGHTER ALONE STUCK ON THE ROAD AT 3 AM WITH LARGE TRUCKS PASSING BY. SHE HAD BELIEVED THE CAR HAD PLENTY OF GAS. THE GUAGES ARE STILL NOT FIXED PROPERLY DO NOT WORK AT 100777 MILES.
SPEEDOMETER ERRATIC AND NOT CALCULATING CORRECT SPEEDS. MORE ERRATIC IN COLD CLIMATE. WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED THE SPEEDOMETER IS AT 20MPH, DRIVE THE CAR IT GETS STUCK ON 50MHP, AND CONTINUES TO RISE. AT TIMES THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS IN WARM WEATHER, BUT I HAVE TO TRY TO RESET IT TO ZERO BEFORE I BEGIN DRIVING. I SEE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SPEEDOMETER IN THE MUSTANG FORUMS AND SEE NO RESOLVE TO THE ISSUE. I CONTACTED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY, AND THEY SAY THERE ARE NO RECALLS. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE WITH THE SPEED SENSORS, OR THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE ITSELF. THIS TO ME IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. THIS ISSUE CONTINUES TO OCCUR DAILY. THE ISSUE STARTED SOME TIME AGO, BUT I AM REPORTING NOW SINCE THERE IS NO RESOLVE FROM THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO FIX THE ISSUE. *TR
ON MY 2005 FORD MUSTANG, WHICH WAS PURCHASED USED, AFTER HAVING IT FOR 2 MONTH THE FUEL AND ODOMETER GAUGES BEGAN ACTING ERRATIC. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT COVER AS PART OF THE WARRANTY. THIS IS A DEFECT AND WHY SHOULD THE CONSUMER BE LET HOLDING THE FINANCIAL BAG... *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY IN A DRIZZLE RAIN, THE HEADLIGHTS, BLINKERS, FUEL GAUGE, STEREO, STOPPED WORKING, THE EBRAKE LIGHT, FUEL LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, OIL LIGHT, CAME ON. THE TRACTION CONTROL TURNED OF AND WILL NOT TURN BACK ON. ON PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE FLOOR WAS WET, THE SMART JUNCTION BOX HAD WATER ON IT AND ON THE WIRING HARNESS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG. WHILE BACKING THE VEHICLE UP SHE NOTICED A BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. SHE EXITED THE VEHICLE TO LOOK FOR A FAILURE BUT DID NOT NOTICE ANY SO SHE PROCEEDED TO HER DESTINATION; HOWEVER, NOISE BECAME LOUDER. WHEN THE CONTACT REACHED HER DESTINATION SHE DISCOVERED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT PULLEY WAS LAYING IN THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY AND A MECHANIC STATED THAT THE SERPENTINE BELT WAS DAMAGED AND WAS NO LONGER ON THE PULLEY. THE VEHICLE IS BEING REPAIRED AT A COST OF $700.00. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
CORROSION ON LEADING AND TRAILING EDGES OF ALUMINUM HOOD.
1. WATER LEAK IN PASSENGER SIDE KICK PANEL, HAS SHORTED SMART JUNCTION BOX, NOW TRACTION CONTROL DOES NOT WORK (CAUSED THE REAR WHEELS TO SPIN OUT ON WET PAVEMENT AT 35 MPH AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, HIT A CURB AND BENT 3 RIMS AND UNDER CARRIAGE DAMAGE) AND HAS CAUSED OTHER SAFETY RELATED PROBLEMS WHILE DRIVING. WITH A/C ON, CAR IDLE WILL DROP AND SOMETIMES STALL OUT, CAUSING A LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKES (VERY SAFETY RELATED). FORD KNEW OF WATER LEAK ISSUE WHEN VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED, THEY PUT A LITTLE PLASTIC COVER OVER SJB COMPUTER TO DEFLECT LEAKING WATER INSIDE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT ON PASSENGER SIDE BEHIND KICK PANEL NEAR DOOR HINGE. NO DEALER WILL REPAIR THE ISSUE WITHOUT BUYING A NEW SJB AND PROGRAMMING FOR OVER $600. 2. ALSO REAR BRAKES STICK AFTER USING EMERGENCY BRAKE. THIS IS IN A WARM CLIMATE, NOT COLD CLIMATE. IF I EVER HAVE TO USE MY E-BRAKE IN AN EMERGENCY THE REAR WHEELS WILL LOCK UP AND BE EVEN MORE OF A HAZARD AND DANGER. BOTH THESE ISSUES ARE VERY SAFETY RELATED. I TRIED SEARCHING YOUR DATA BASE AND COULD NOT EVEN SELECT MUSTANG IN THE VEHICLE LIST. SEARCHING THE INTERNET YOU WILL FIND LITERALLY HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS WATER LEAK AND SJB DAMAGE ISSUE. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. I AM CURRENTLY THINKING OF SUING FORD FOR THE WATER LEAK AND WRECK THIS CAUSED. I CAME VERY CLOSE TO HITTING A PEDESTRIAN WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL FAILED IN THIS ACCIDENT. *TR
I AM NOT SURE EXACTLY WHO TO SEND THIS TO. I AM CONTACTING YOU ABOUT A VEHICLE SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS ABOUT A 2005 FORD MUSTANG. I HAVE TALKED WITH THE FORD DEALER ABOUT THIS AND THEY ARE UNWILLING TO HELP. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE MODEL ACCORDING TO THE FORD DEALER SERVICE DEPT AND I WOULD ASSUME OTHER FORD VEHICLES WITH THIS ENGINE. THIS MUSTANG HAS 60,000 MILES CURRENTLY. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE APPROXIMATELY 45,000 MILES. THE ISSUE, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER SERVICE DEPT, IS WITH THE ENGINES THROTTLE BODY. APPARENTLY THE THROTTLE PLATE BUSHINGS BECOME WORN AND ALLOW THE PLATE TO BECOME STUCK SHUT. THIS CAUSES THE ENGINE TO BECOME "STUCK" AT IDLE. THIS HAS RESULTED IN MULTIPLE NEAR MISS VEHICLE ACCIDENTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED QUITE OFTEN WHEN TRYING TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC FROM A STOP AND THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS PUSHED, EVEN TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR JUST IDLES INTO TRAFFIC OR THE ENGINE DIES COMPLETELY ADDING THE PROBLEM OF NO POWER STEERING. I HAVE TWO VEHICLES THAT WERE AFFECTED BY SAFETY RECALL 07S57. THIS SEEMS TO ME TO BE A SIMILAR SAFETY ISSUE AND THOUGHT I SHOULD CONTACT THE NHTSA. I AM NOT SURE WHO TO CONTACT ABOUT THIS FOR HELP. MY 2005 FORD MUSTANG SHUT TOTALLY OFF WHILE TRAVELING IN THE LEFT LANE OF A BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY IN NC (I-95N). I MANAGED TO GET OFF ROAD AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP NEAR FAYETTEVILLE, NC. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A BAD MASS AIR FLOW (MAF) SENSOR. I FEEL THAT A VEHICLE SHOULD GO INTO A FAIL-SAFE MODE AND NOT TOTALLY SHUT DOWN DUE TO A MINOR ISSUE SUCH AS A BAD MAF SENSOR. UNDER SLIGHTLY LESS FAVORABLE ROAD/WEATHER CONDITIONS, THIS DANGEROUS VEHICLE FAULT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED AS NONE OF THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED OR FUNCTIONED AT ALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CLUSTER WAS NOT FUNCTIONING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTIES FOR THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG. WHENEVER THE CONTACT ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE TO THE DESIRED SPEED. SHE NOTICED THAT THE MAINTENANCE LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 20,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE FOR THE OIL READ 195 DEGREES EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING HOT AND BEGAN TO SMOKE. THE CONTACT DROVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND WAITED FOR THE VEHICLE TO COOL DOWN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND TO BE REPAIRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING TO HAVE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS STILL DEFECTIVE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,500 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,064.
AFTER ONE CLEANING OF REAR WINDOW THE DEFROSTER STOPPED WORKING. CAR HAS ONLY 20,860 MILES ON IT. MOSTLY GARAGED. NOW BEYOND WARRANTY OF 36 MOS/36 MILES. GRID IS DEFECTIVE AND WAS BEFORE WARRANTY EXPIRED AND WAS NOT DISCOVERED UNTIL AFTERWARDS. FORD REFUSED TO FIX.
2005 FORD MUSTANG I PURCHASED THE CAR AS A USED VEHICLE. ON MOST OCCURRENCES IT TAKES 15 MINUTES TO FUEL THE CAR WITH ABOUT 1/4 -1/8 OF A TANK OF FUEL REMAINING. THERE APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH PRESSURE IN THE TANK CAUSING THE PUMP NOZZLE TO SHUT OFF REPEATEDLY. THE NOZZLE MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE TANK INLET AND THEN PUT BACK IN ABOUT 20-30 TIMES IN ORDER FOR THE TANK TO BE FILLED. *TR
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A NEW 05 FORD MUSTANG GT, IN THE STATE OF NH PURCHASED FROM TILTON FORD. I HAVE BECOME AWARE THAT THE ALUMINUM HOOD IS OXIDIZING AND THE PAINT IS THEREFORE SEPARATING FROM THE METAL. THE RESULTING DAMAGE ON THE HOOD IS PAINT FALLING AWAY, EXPOSING THE ALUMINUM. THIS SHOULD NOT BE OCCURRING ON AN AIRCRAFT OR A PROPERLY PAINTED AUTO SUCH AS MINE. I HAVE PURSUED THIS PROBLEM WITH MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND FORD VIA THE CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE; BOTH TELL ME THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM AND THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO. I HAVE DONE PLENTY OF RESEARCH AND HAVE SEVERAL ESTIMATES AND EVEN SPOKE TO AN AIRCRAFT PERSON WHO AGREES, THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN, FORD SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS. I DESIRE A RESPONSE WHICH WILL ADDRESS THIS CONCERN, BE IT PICTURES FROM A DEALERSHIP AS PART OF AN ESTIMATE TO REPAIR THE DEFECT OF MY ALUMINUM HOOD OR ITS REPLACEMENT. THE FUEL GAUGE BEGAN TO ACT ERRATICALLY BEFORE CEASING TO WORK ALTOGETHER. I TOOK THE CAR TO FAIRWAY FORD (PLACENTIA, CA) AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE WRITER DISMISSED ME BY SAYING THE REPAIR WAS TOO COSTLY AND THAT THERE WAS NO KNOWN UNIVERSAL PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 V6 FORD MUSTANG. HE DID NOT DOCUMENT THE PROBLEM REPORTED ON MY SERVICE RECORD. I HAVE A COLLEAGUE WITH THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL WHO HAS THE SAME PROBLEM.

I HAVE EXPERIENCED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WATER POURING INTO THE VEHICLE UNDER THE DASH BOARD AND IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE FUSE PANEL ON THE PASSENGER FOOT WELL. THE DEALER HAS INDICATED THAT THE AIR INTAKE TO THE CABIN AIR UNIT IS ALSO CONNECTED THE DRAIN LINES THAT DRAIN WATER FROM THE HOOD COWL. WHEN DEBRIS FROM TREES, BUSHES AND SHRUBS FINDS IT'S WAY ONTO THE HOOD COWL IT GETS INTO THE DRAIN LINES (DUE TO POOR DESIGN AND LACK OF ANY TYPE OF FILTER) WITH ANY RAIN. THE RAIN WASHES DEBRIS INTO THE DRAIN LINES WHICH THEN BACKS UP AS THE LINE FILLS INTO THE CABIN AIR UNIT. MY DEALER HAS TOLD ME THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING IS TO NOT PARK UNDER TREES. THEY DID NOT TELL ME THAT WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR. AN INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS MANY PEOPLE WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM ON THE MODEL YEAR AND LATER YEARS. A TSB EXISTS ON THIS PROBLEM. *TR

JUST BOUGHT CAR 1 MONTH AGO AND THERE ARE SEVERAL TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ON MY 2005 FORD MUSTANG GT. ALL OF WHICH MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING. HESITATION ON ACCELERATION , LOUD KNOCKING NOISE FROM UNDER HOOD AT LOW SPEED TURNS , EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO PUMP GAS , PRE-MATURE AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF , MOST OF WHICH POSE SAFETY ISSUES . ON SATURDAY APRIL 18, 2009 MY DAUGHTER CALLED TO SAY THAT HER CAR WAS HARD TO STEER. SHE PULLED OVER AND HER MAIN BELT HAD COME OFF, WHICH IN TURN CAUSED THE CAR TO OVERHEAT. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION AND TURNING THE IGNITION OVER, THE BELT FELL OFF AGAIN AND SO DID THE PULLEY ON THE HARMONIC BALANCER. WE HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A SHOP. UPON ARRIVING AT THE SHOP I WAS TOLD THAT THE HARMONIC BALANCER BROKE OFF THE CRANK SHAFT. WHEN THE NEW PART ARRIVED YOU COULD CLEARLY SEE THAT IT HAS BEEN REDESIGNED. WE PAID $600 TO HAVE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS DONE. I WAS TOLD BY OUR MECHANIC THAT HE HAS NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON IT. I HOPE THIS WILL MAKE THAT HAPPEN. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE FRONT DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR AREAS ACCUMULATED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF WATER LEAKAGE. WATER ENTERED INTO THE FUSE PANEL. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHERE IT WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A CRACKED BODY TORQUE SEAM. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $900; HOWEVER, THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE REPAIRS CONSISTED OF REPLACING THE SMART FUSE BOX, SEALS, AND MICRO CIRCUITS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,092.
TRYING TO REFUEL AT SOME PUMPS IS A PROBLEM. SOMETHING KEEPS SHUTTING OFF THE PUMP. I HAVE LEARNED TO RECOGNIZE THIS AND GO TO ANOTHER STATION DOWN THE ROAD. SHE WAS ABLE TO STEER INTO A PARKING LOT AND PLACE THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. SHE WAITED FOR A WHILE BEFORE RESTARTING THE VEHICLE AND DRIVING TO HER RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART THEY REPLACED COULD BE DEFECTIVE AND MAY HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE TO RECUR. THEY FURTHER STATED THAT IF THE REPAIR IS ELECTRICAL, IT COULD BE VERY COSTLY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,000.

WE PULL OVER AND CHECK UNDER THE HOOD; NO SMOKE, NO LEAKS, NO SMELL, EVERYTHING SEEMS NORMAL. WE DECIDE TO RETURN TO OUR HOUSE, PARK THE CAR UNTIL WE GET BACK TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE. THE GAUGE CONTINUED TO MOVE HOTTER SO WE RAN THE HEATER ALL THE WAY HOME. UPON OUR RETURN FROM THE WEEKEND TRIP, WE STARTED THE CAR AND THE GAUGE AUTOMATICALLY WENT TO HOT. A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET CAME BACK WITH MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME YEAR/MODEL AND THE SAME PROBLEM AND INDICATED THAT THE DEALERS WERE SAYING THAT IT WAS A BAD INSTRUMENT/CLUSTER PANEL THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THE OTHER GAUGES WOULD ALSO STOP OPERATING. COST TO REPAIR ABOUT $1000 AND MILEAGE WOULD HAVE TO BE CERTIFIED. WE CONTINUED TO USE THE CAR WITHOUT ANY HEATING UP PROBLEMS ALTHOUGH THE GAUGE INDICATED OTHERWISE. RECENTLY, THE SPEEDOMETER HAS STARTED GOING BAD AS WELL. SOMETIMES IT TELLS YOU SPEED AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T. ONLY THING WORKING RIGHT NOW IS THE FUEL GAUGE AND DON'T KNOW FOR HOW LONG.
