TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG. WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AT 5 MPH IN RAINY WEATHER, WATER BEGAN POURING OUT OF THE DASHBOARD. THE CONTACT DETECTED A BURNING ODOR COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE CABIN FILTER, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,453.
EXITING THE HIGHWAY I 93 AND ENTERING I 95 S, THERE IS A RELATIVE SHARP CORNER TO TURN. BOTH MY SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER SHOWED INCORRECT SPEED AND RPM AND MADE ME BELIEVE I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO A SAFE SPEED OF 30 MPH. HOWEVER THESE GAUGES WERE NOT WORKING AND I WAS STRUGGLING TO MAKE THE CORNER. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE FUEL, OIL PRESSURE AND WATER TEMP GAUGES NOT WORKING, BUT WITH TACHOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING RELIABLE I BELIEVE THAT IT IS NOT SAFE TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE. AS A PRECAUTION, I AM USING MY NAVIGATION SYSTEM TO KNOW WHAT ACTUAL SPEED I AM GOING. LOOKING AT THE INTERNET, I AM FINDING LOTS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE DIAL STEPPER MOTORS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. IT IS A COSTLY EXCHANGE OF APPROXIMATELY $ 600 + LABOR AND WITH FORD KNOWING OF THE MALFUNCTIONING GAUGES AND NOT WARNING CONSUMERS IS REALLY UNACCEPTABLE TO ME. THESE CLUSTERS SHOULD BE REPLACED AT FORD'S EXPENSE AND NOT AT THE CONSUMER'S. THESE GAUGES WERE DESIGNED TO ENSURE SAFE AND PROPER OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

TAKATA RECALL NEITHER THE DRIVER NOR PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WHEN IN MY ACCIDENT WITH MY GIRLFRIEND AT THE TIME, (SHE'S NOW MY WIFE) WE SWERVED TO MISS A DEER AND SLID OFF THE ROAD INTO A FIELD AND FLIPPED INTO A RIVER. AT NO POINT DID ANY AIRBAGS DEPLOY.
. I GOT IN MY CAR AN STARTED THE ENGINE. I THEN NOTICED MY FUEL GAUGE AND SPEEDOMETER WERE NOT WORKING AT ALL. I HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN CARE OF MY MUSTANG AN I THINK FORD SHOULD RECALL THE CLUSTER. THE SPEEDOMETER WERE NOT WORKING AT ALL. I READ IN VERY FORUM THAT 2005 MODELS WITH VERY SAME ISSUE. THINK FORD SHOULD RECALL THE CLUSTER. I READ THIS IN OTHER COMPLAIN AND MY OPINION IS THE SAME. GAUGES DON'T WORK PROPERLY. CAN'T TELL HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING, WHAT YOUR OIL PRESSURE IS, HOW MUCH FUEL YOU HAVE ETC IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE
PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED AND EVERY TIME I GO TO FILL UP THE VEHICLE WITH GASOLINE IT SEEMS TO BE DIFICULT TO INSERT THE NOZZLE ALL THE WAY IN AND GASOLINE SPITS OUT. NO RECORD OF ACCIDENTS CLAIMS AND VISUAL INSPECTION DOESN'T SEEM TO SHOW ANY DAMAGE TO THE ASSEMBLY. NO UNUSUAL BENDS IN THE NECK OF THE RECEIVER WHERE YOU INSERT THE NOZZLE. *JS

THE FORD RECALL DUE TO POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUES WITH THE TAKATA AIRBAGS IS QUITE RESTRICTIVE AND NOT APPROPRIATE TO THIS MATTER. I PURCHASED MY CAR IN HAWAII AND SINCE 2005, HAVE LIVED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, SOUTHERN ARIZONA AND NEW MEXICO. NEVERTHELESS, WHEN I MADE THE APPOINTMENT WITH A FORD DEALERSHIP IN NEW MEXICO, EVEN THOUGH I LISTED THE REASON FOR MY REQUESTED SERVICE, I ONLY WAS TOLD ABOUT THIS RESTRICTION AFTER DRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WOULD HAVE BEEN WILLING TO PAY A NOMINAL FEE TO HAVE THESE AIRBAGS REPLACED BUT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNWILLING TO LISTEN. THIS IS THE SECOND "SAFETY" MATTER FOR THIS CAR THAT HAS BEEN RAISED BY FORD THAT THEY HAVE REFUSED TO ADDRESS (THE FIRST BEING A FRONT SUSPENSION MATTER) AND I'M NOT PLEASED. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE AND IF THE NHTSA IS HAVING HEARINGS ON THIS MATTER, I WOULD ENCOURAGE THE COMMITTEE TO CONSIDER EXPANDING THE FORD RECALL TO ALL CARS WITH THESE AIRBAGS. *TR

THE DAY AFTER GETTING MY OIL CHANGED (WHICH HAS BEEN DONE ROUTINELY THROUGH OUT THE LIFE OF MY CAR) ON MY WAY TO WORK THE FOLLOWING MORNING MY CAR BEGAN TO SLIP ERRATICALLY OUT OF GEAR, IT DROPPED INTO NEUTRAL WHEN GOING FROM A COMPLETE STOP (I NARROWLY AVOIDED GETTING HIT TURNING LEFT ACROSS TRAFFIC) AND THEN SLIPPED INTO REVERSE AT A STOP LIGHT, WHICH I DID NOT DISCOVER UNTIL I HIT THE GAS AND NEARLY SLAMMED INTO THE CAR BEHIND ME AT THE LIGHT. WHEN I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP I HAD THE CAR INVESTIGATED BY A THIRD PARTY TO ENSURE THAT JIFFY LUBE WAS NOT AT FAULT FOR THE DAMAGE DONE TO MY TRANSMISSION WHEN THEY CHANGED THE OIL IN THE CAR. THE REPORT CAME BACK STATING THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS EXPERIENCING CATASTROPHIC FAILURE DUE TO UNEVEN WEARING ON THE INSIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE SERVO BARS. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION THAT IS IN MY CAR AND I WAS FORCED TO BUY A COMPLETELY NEW TRANSMISSION FOR $4600, OTHERWISE MY 10 YEAR OLD GENTLY DRIVEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF CAR WITH LESS THAN 65,000 MILES ON IT THAT IS IN NEAR MINT CONDITION WOULD HAVE BEEN BASICALLY SCRAP. THIS IS A DANGEROUS MECHANICAL FAILURE THAT IS FREQUENTLY OCCURRING AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR WORSE A FATALITY. *TR
THEY GET STUCK ESPECIALLY IN COOLER WEATHER. THE TACH IS NOW STUCK HANGING IN THE DOWN POSITION. THE ODOMETER CAN GO ANYWHERE FROM 20 TO 40 MPH FASTER THAN I AM GOING. WHEN STOPPED IT WILL BE IN THAT POSITION. *TR

ALL DEFECTIVE TAKATA AIRBAGS SHOULD BE REPLACED. CURRENTLY NHTSA HAS ONLY RECALLED CARS SOLD OR REGISTERED IN FL, HA, PUERTO RICO, & U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS. IT HAS BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED THAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED AND KILLED DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE TAKATA AIRBAGS IN SOME OF THE REMAINING 48 STATES. NHTSA FAILURE TO RECALL ALL THE DEFECTIVE TAKATA AIRBAGS LEAVES EVERYONE IN 48 STATES EXPOSED TO THE RISK OF SEVERE INJURY AND DEATH DUE TO A KNOWN PRODUCT DEFECT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG GT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED AT A DEALER, THE TECHNICIAN DISCOVERED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER EMITTED A HARMFUL GAS INTO THE CABIN. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SENSATIONS OF LIGHTHEADEDNESS, SEVERE HEADACHES AND HEART PALPITATIONS THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT NOT TO ACTIVATE THE AIR CONDITIONER TO AVOID FURTHER HEALTH ISSUES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,200.
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY FORD SALEEN MUSTANG 2005 RECENTLY HAS STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY, THE NEEDLE ON THE SPEEDOMETER SITS ON 10 MPH WHEN IDLING, WHEN I ACCELERATE THE NEEDLE IS OFF BY 10 MPH, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, NOT KNOWING HOW FAST YOU ARE TRAVELING. I HAVE LOOKED UP IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE WEB AND HAVE ONLY FOUND SIMILAR ISSUES ON FORUMS. *TR
SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER NEEDLE DOES NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY. SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT MOVE HALF THE TIME FROM RESTING POSITION AND THE TACHOMETER WILL ROTATE ALL THE WAY AROUND AND STAY WHERE IT IS WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. THE BATTERY, OIL, AND TEMP NEEDLES DO NOT MOVE FROM OFF POSITION HALF THE TIME. TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT SMOOTHLY AND SHIFTS HARDER GOING FROM SECOND TO THIRD. *TR

2005 FORD MUSTANG. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEALERSHIP REFUSAL TO REPAIR RECALL NOTICE 14V-802 & 15V-319 DUE TO PREVIOUS AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT DURING VEHICLE ACCIDENT. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HIS DAUGHTER WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR END COLLISION IN SEPTEMBER 2014. WHEN THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, SOME TYPE OF DEBRIS EMITTED FROM THE AIR BAGS AND LITERALLY BURNED AND GOUGED HIS DAUGHTER'S RIGHT AR, UP TO HER ELBOW. THE AIR BAG WAS NOT REPLACED AT THE AUTO BODY, BECAUSE HEARD ABOUT THE RECALL. THE AIR BAG WAS STUFFED BACK INTO ITS HOUSING AND TAPED SHUT, BUT THE SEAT BELT WAS LOCKED IN ONE POSITION DUE TO THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. *JB

THE VEHICLE BEGAN STALLING AT LOW SPEEDS, IN TRAFFIC, AT RED LIGHTS/STOP SIGNS AND WHILE TURNING. SEVERAL VERY CLOSE CALLS TO DATE. YOU MUST RESTART ENGINE DURING A TURN OFTEN WITH OTHER MOTORISTS BEARING DOWN ON YOU. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE AND WHEN YOU DO A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET. THE DEALERSHIP IS ALSO AWARE OF IT BECAUSE THEY TELL YOU RIGHT AWAY THAT YOU WILL NEED A $500.00 PART TO FIX IT AND THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE LABOR. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD BY A FEW MECHANICS THAT THIS USED TO BE SOLVED BY REPLACING THE IDLE AIR CONTROL SWITCH,ABOUT A $40.00 PART. THAT PART IS NOT OFFERED WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL BUT IT COMES ON THE $500.00 PART. *TR
I WAS ACCELERATING OUT OF A 45MPH AREA TO A 55MPH AND AROUND 50MPH THE CAR JERKED AND THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON. THE WRENCH ICON ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CAR SEEMED TO HAVE LOST MOST POWER BUT STILL RAN. *TR
SINCE ABOUT A YEAR AGO, NOVEMBER 2013, THIS VEHICLE HAS SHOWN MULTIPLE ISSUES. TO START, IT IS AN AUTOMATIC 05 MUSTANG WHICH, THE MORE I READ ONLINE, THE MORE THAT I SEEM TO FIND THAT MANY HAVE THESE EXACT SAME OR VERY SIMILAR ISSUES. INITIALLY THE DASH CLUSTER (EVERYTHING BESIDES THE TACHOMETER) WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD GET STUCK AT 20 MPH BUT STILL MOVE ACTING AS THOUGH THE 20 MPH WAS THE 0 MPH MARK (SO 35 MPH = 15 MPH). MORE RECENTLY THE GAS GAUGE HAS STOPPED WORKING, IT SITS AT EMPTY EVEN AFTER PLENTY OF GAS HAS BEEN PUT INTO IT. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE ALSO GETS STUCK OFTEN, STILL MOVING AS THE SPEEDOMETER DOES. NOT TOO LONG AFTER THESE ISSUES STARTED OCCURRING, WHEN I WENT TO FILL UP THE GAS TANK IT WOULDN'T TAKE THE GAS AS IT NORMALLY WOULD. SOMETIMES ONLY A COUPLE DOLLARS WORTH WOULD BE IN BEFORE IT CLICKED OFF. AFTER PAYING CLOSER ATTENTION I HAVE ALSO NOTICED SOMETIMES GAS ACTUALLY SPLASHES OUT WHEN FILLING IT UP EVEN THOUGH IT IS DEFINITELY NOT FULL. MUCH MORE RECENTLY THE VEHICLE HAS WORRYING ISSUES. AT ONE POINT WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 70 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED TO DECELERATE ON ITS OWN, EVEN WHILE I WAS PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL. I PULLED IT OFF TO THE SIDE, SHUT IT OFF COMPLETELY, STARTED IT UP AND IT WAS AS THOUGH NOTHING HAPPENED. EVER SINCE THAT INCIDENT THOUGH IT HAS BEEN RUNNING A BIT LOUDER AND NOW IT SEEMS A POSSIBLE MISFIRE IS HAPPENING WITH ONE OF THE CYLINDERS OCCASIONALLY. THE VEHICLE HAS A DELAYED AND VERY HARD SHIFT FROM THIRD TO FOURTH GEAR. IT IS NOT AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN CARE OF, AND FOR A 2005 THE MILEAGE IS PRETTY LOW STILL. AT LEAST ONE OR TWO OF THESE ISSUES SEEM TO BE A SAFETY CONCERN, AND IT IS VERY OBVIOUS AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE THAT THESE ISSUES ARE PREVALENT IN TONS OF THESE EXACT SAME VEHICLES. *TR
AFTER THE LEAVING THE CAR TURNED OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY 1.5 HOURS MY TWO TEENAGE DAUGHTERS, AGE 17 AND 15, GOT IN THE CAR TO DRIVE HOME AND NOTICED THAT THE CAR SMELLED A LITTLE SMOKY. THEY DROVE DOWN THE ROAD FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES WHEN THE ELECTRICAL PANEL WENT DEAD, THEN THE POWER LOCKS BEGAN TO GO UP AND DOWN CONTINUOUSLY AND THE SMELL OF SMOKE BECAME MORE PROMINENT. AT THIS POINT, THEY BECAME VERY CONCERNED THAT THEY WERE GOING TO BE LOCKED IN THE CAR WITH SMOKE POURING OUT AND NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. SO THEY PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT, IMMEDIATELY EXITED THE CAR AND CALLED 911. AS SOON AS THEY GOT OUT OF THE CAR, SMOKE BEGAN BILLOWING OUT OF BOTH DOORS WHICH WERE LEFT OPEN. 5 MINUTES AFTER EXITING THE CAR, FLAMES WHICH REACHED TWO FEET HIGH, BEGAN COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. A PASSERBY OBTAINED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND TRIED TO PUT OUT THE FLAMES, THEN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND PROCEEDED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE COMPLETELY. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT INDICATED THAT IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE BUT WERE NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE. THEY INDICATED THAT THEY THOUGHT THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED, WHICH WAS IN FACT THE CASE. CLEARLY, THIS WAS A VERY UPSETTING SITUATION FOR OUR ENTIRE FAMILY. WE FEEL BLESSED THAT THE GIRLS WERE ABLE TO GET OUT IN TIME, BUT ALSO UPSET AT THE THOUGHT OF WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD THEY NOT ACTED IMMEDIATELY OR WERE NOT IN A POSITION TO DO SO. *TR

I HAVE A VERY HARD TIME PUTTING GAS IN MY CAR . ALLOWS ME TO ONLY PUT A LITTLE AT A TIME. IT IS VERY FRUSTERATING. I SHOULDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM EVERY TIME I PUT GAS.
IN HEAVY CITY TRAFFIC, STEPPED ON GAS TO ACCELERATE, CAR WOULD NOT GO. KEPT GIVING GAS WOULD FINALLY RESPOND. DID THIS SEVERAL TIMES IN ONE DAY. NEXT TIME WE TRIED TO DRIVE IT "ENGINE SAFE MODE" LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL. THROUGH RESEARCH AND TALKING TO OTHERS DETERMINED THAT IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY (DRIVE BY WIRE) A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH SOME FORD VEHICLES. TALKED TO THE FORD DEALER WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR AND THE SERVICE PERSON WE SPOKE TO TOLD US IT WOULD BE COVERED BY FORD'S EXTENDED WARRANTY IN RESPONSE TO CSP 13N03. TOOK THE CAR IN TODAY FOR APPOINTMENT AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THAT EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THAT CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03 DID NOT PERTAIN TO A MUSTANG. DOES NOT SEEM RIGHT TO US THAT OUR CAR WOULD NOT BE COVERED WHEN RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT MUSTANG'S HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE SAME "DRIVE BY WIRE" SYSTEM. WE ARE LEFT BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR OVER $500 IN COSTS FOR THIS REPAIR. *TR
HESITATION IN GAS PEDAL/THROTTLE BODY. WHEN PULLING OUT FROM A STOP THERE IS A HESITATION IN GAS PEDAL. PUSH DOWN ON PEDAL AND THERE IS NO RESPONSE UNTIL PEDAL IS DOWN ABOUT HALF THROTTLE AND THEN CAR WILL LEAP AND STAY AT HALF THROTTLE AT WHICH TIME I LET OFF GAS PEDAL AND CONTINUE TO REPEAT PROCESS UNTIL UP TO A SPEED OF ABOUT 30 MPH. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. EVERY ONE I TALK TO ABOUT THIS SAYS IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL, 2005-2014 FORD MUSTANG. WHILE TRAVELING, THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATED SPEED CHANGED FROM 60 MPH TO 125 MPH. IT NOW READS 65 MPH WHEN STOPPED, EVEN WHILE OFF, AND SEEMS TO ALWAYS INDICATE ACTUAL SPEED PLUS 65. THERE IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE ACTUAL SPEED. *TR
RETURNING HOME FROM WORK, THE ENGINE STOPPED OPERATING. I PULLED ONTO THE MEDIAN AND MANAGED TO BRING MY VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AS WELL AS OTHER ICONS WERE LIT UP ON THE INFORMATION PANEL WHICH INDICATED THERE WAS STILL ELECTRICAL POWER. SINCE THE CAR HAS HAD AROUND 45000 MILES ON IT I BEGAN HAVING INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL ISSUES. SPEEDOMETER, WIPERS, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, BRAKE LIGHTS, HEAD LIGHTS, AND BLINKERS ALL STOP WORKING WHILE DRIVING. I AM FORCED TO SHUT THE IGNITION OFF WHILE DRIVING AND RECYCLE THE KEY JUST TO GET THE BLINKER WORK AND THEN SHUT IT OFF AGAIN TO TURN IT OFF! DOORS WILL NO LONGER LOCK OR UNLOCK AND CANNOT POP THE TRUNK USING FOB.
