I WAS DRIVING OVER A BRIDGE AND LOOKED DOWN AND MY SPEEDOMETER SAID THAT I WAS GOING 120 MPH. I WAS ONLY TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. I PULLED INTO A RESTAURANT PARKING LOT AND CONTINUED TO TURN THE CAR ON AND OFF. EACH TIME THE SPEEDOMETER WENT DOWN 10 MPH UNTIL I FINALLY GOT IT TO 0. I TURNED AROUND AND DROVE HOME, BUT THE SPEEDOMETER KEPT STICKING AT AROUND 40 TO 60 MPH. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY AT A SHOP AND THEY ARE ORDERING THE PART FROM THE DEALER TO FIX IT. THEY SAID THE SAME THING EVERYONE ONLINE SAID, "IT'S THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER." IF SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE SINCE 2009, WHY WAS IT NEVER RECALLED? *TR
GAS GAUGE ERRATIC. THEN FAILED LAST AUGUST. FORD SAYS MUST REPLACE ENTIRE CLUSTER AT COST OF $450-650 PLUS LABOR THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL. ONLY 45000 MILES ON THIS CAR. COST SEEMS EXCESSIVE. WHAT IS FORD DOING TO BACK THIS UP? UPDATED 06/10/13 *BF
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER AND FUEL GAUGE MALFUNCTIONED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO READ THE LEVEL OF FUEL OR THE SPEED BEING TRAVELED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE SPEEDOMETER WENT TO 0 MPH AND HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY SINCE THAT TIME. MY ON-LINE RESEARCH HAS REVEALED THAT THIS PROBLEM IS QUITE COMMON WITH THIS MAKE AND YEAR OF CAR AND STEMS FROM FORD INSTALLING SUBSTANDARD STEPPER MOTORS ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAUGE CIRCUIT BOARDS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT I CANNOT GAUGE MY ROAD SPEED WHILE MOVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. FORD SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED TO PROVIDE ACCURATE SPEED READINGS WHILE TRAVELING 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,000. ...UPDATED 10/19/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED NONE OF THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WORKED. AT FIRST THE BACK UP LIGHTS WOULD FLASH ON THEN GO OFF WHEN VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN REVERSE AND STAY OFF EVEN WHILE STILL IN REVERSE. THE TACH WOULD SHOW YOU DOING ABOUT 800 RPM'S NO MATTER THE SPEED AND WHEN I BACKED IT IN THE GARAGE AFTER RETURNING FROM FORD, THE TACH SHOWED 9000 RPM WHILE IN PARK AND KEY OFF. VEHICLE STUDDERS WHEN DRIVING LIKE ITS STARVING FOR FUEL, FORD TOLD ME ALL OF THIS IS RELATED TO THE SJB. THEY SAY IT'S CORRODED FROM COFFEE OR SOME FLUID GETTING ON IT. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT THEY WONT CALL IT IN BECAUSE THE TEXT SAID IT WAS COFFEE BUT WOULD NOT SAY HOW THE COFFEE GOT UP BEHIND THE KICK PANEL (PASS SIDE) UNDER DASH AREA. FORD HAS TSB 08-26-7, BUT WONT REPAIR AT THEIR EXPENSE AND NO RECALLS ISSUED, EVEN THOUGH IT ONLY OCCURS AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. *TR
AFTER COMING TO A STOP, I TRY TO ACCELERATE AND THE CAR STALLS AND JERKS INTO GEAR. I WAS TOLD THAT THE THROTTLE WAS DIRTY. I HAD IT CLEANED AND GOT A NEW AIR FILTER BUT WAS STILL EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE NEXT STEP WAS TO REPLACE THROTTLE SENSOR. THE MECHANIC ADVISED TO CHECK THE RECALL LIST AND I SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH NO HELP FROM FORD. I SAW THIS SITE AND DECIDED TO POST. *TR
FIRST THE GAS GAUGE HAND WOULD STAY ON EMPTY EVEN WHEN FILLING UP OR IT WOULD GO STRAIGHT DOWN WAY PAST THE FULL MARK. NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE. NOW THE SPEEDOMETER IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. IT WILL EITHER STAY AT 0MPH WHILE I'M DRIVING OR SAY I'M GOING 20-30MPH WHEN THE CAR IS SHUT OFF AND NOT EVEN RUNNING. AT TIMES IT SAYS I'M GOING 110MPH WHEN I'M DRIVING THROUGH TOWN WHICH IS A 35MPH AND CLEARLY I AM NOT DRIVING 110MPH. I FIND THIS TO BE A GREAT HAZARD TO OTHER DRIVERS SINCE I NEVER KNOW HOW FAST I'M GOING. AFTER DOING INTERNET RESEARCH IT SEEMS MANY MUSTANG OWNERS HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE. I FEEL THAT HAVING A DEFECTIVE SPEEDOMETER IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IF SAFETY IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO THE NHTSA. *TR
THERMOSTAT HOUSING EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING.... SPOKE TO MY MECHANIC AND THEY SAID THAT THESE COME IN ALL THE TIME TO THEIR SHOP ON 4.0 FORD CARS AND TRUCKS. SO MUCH SO THAT YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO GIVE FORD THE PART NUMBER WHEN YOU CALL IN THE PART BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE ARE ORDERING THEM. *JS
THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE, FUEL GAUGE, AND SPEEDOMETER BEGAN MALFUNCTIONING. NOW IF CAR GETS HOT THE FUEL AND TEMPERATURE GAUGES CEASE TO OPERATE AND THE SPEEDOMETER FLUXUATES BETWEEN NOT WORKING TO BEING SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 0 AND 30 MPH TO FAST OR SLOW. FORD SAID IT WASN'T A WARRANTY REPAIR AND I RECEIVED TWO ESTIMATES BETWEEN $500 AND $700 TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. LOOKING AT THE VARIOUS FORD MUSTANG FORUM SITES I HAVE OBSERVED HUNDREDS OF OWNER'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM FOR THE 2005-2009 MUSTANG. AS THIS IS MY WIFE'S CAR, AND I DON'T HAVE THE FUNDS RIGHT NOW WE HAVE HAD TO PARK THE CAR SINCE IT IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE NOT KNOWING THE CAR SPEED, IF IT IS OVER HEATING, OR RUNNING OUT OF FUEL. *TR
GAUGES STOPPED WORKING. TACHOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, GAS GAUGE, TEMPERATURE GAUGE.FORD DEALER TOLD ME OVER $600.00 TO REPLACE/REPAIR. I'VE TALKED TO SEVERAL OTHER MUSTANG OWNERS AND THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG GT CONVERTIBLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE IGNITION WAS STARTED A CABLE DETACHED FROM THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHEN DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,600 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY REAR ENDED A OLD NISSAN TRUCK WHICH RESULTED IN ME HITTING MY HEAD AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL AND TOTALING MY CAR. I WAS GOING 40MPH AND MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V319000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COMPARTMENT THAT HOUSED THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG MADE A CLICKING NOISE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT NHTSA DECLARED THE VEHICLE SAFE TO DRIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY SPEEDOMETER HAS BECOME ERRATIC WHERE IT WILL STICK AT RANDOM INTERVALS AND DOESN'T REPORT THE SPEED CORRECTLY ANYMORE. THIS MAKES IT HAZARDOUS TO OPERATE AND DIFFICULT TO REMAIN WITHIN LEGAL SPEED LIMITS. *TR
STARTED OUT WITH SPEEDOMETER,THEN THE CAR WOULD STARTONE DAY BUT NOT THE NEXT NOW ANY THING THAT IS ELECTRICAL DOES NOT WORK CHECKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLANTS ABOUT THIS . FORD KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT WILL NOTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ON MY 2005 FORD MUSTANG HAS A SHORTAGE OR IS DEFECTIVE. BASED ON INTERNET RESEARCH AND A DISCUSSION WITH AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALERSHIP AND MY LONG TIME AUTO MECHANIC, THIS IS A PART THAT SHOULD NOT FAIL AT 73,000 MILES. WHILE FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL, THERE IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURE DEFECT, AS THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND ISSUES REPORTED. WHEN A GAUGE (FUEL, TEMPERATURE, BATTERY, ETC) FAILS ON THIS VEHICLE, THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MUST BE REPLACED. THIS IS A COSTLY PART AND SERVICE FEE (OVER $900) FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT BE DEFECTIVE OR HAVE ISSUES WITH A CAR OF THIS AGE. WHEN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SIGNALS AN ISSUE TO THE INTERNAL COMPUTER, THE VEHICLE MAY GO INTO A "FAIL SAFE MODE" AND THE CAR WILL NOT OPERATE. FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS PART AND REPLACE IT AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG GT. WHILE TRAVELING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AS IT STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 32,000.

SEVERE ONE VEHICLE ROLLOVER OFF THE ROAD FLIPPING OVER ON DRIVER SIDE AND ROOF. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED ALTHOUGH IT WAS OBVIOUS THEY SHOULD HAVE. DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE OFF THE ROD. DRIVER IN CRITICAL CONDITION WITH BROKEN NECK. *TR
3 INCIDENTS: 1.NEEDED TO USE THE PASSING GEAR AND THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING WITH THE PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR. AS I WAS ABOUT TO GO TO NEUTRAL THE PEDAL RELEASED. DEALER DIAGNOSIS WAS TO CLEAN THROTTLE BODY AND FUEL SYSTEM AT A COST OF $160 2. A WEEK LATER, DURING MODERATE ACCELERATION ENTERING AN INTERSTATE ON-RAMP, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT SO I LET IT GO AND EVENTUALLY THE PEDAL KICKED BACK 3. IN EARLY MAY, DID IT AGAIN DURING LIGHT ACCELERATION ON A SURFACE ROAD, THIS TIME I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL, TURNED TO A SIDE STREET TO STOP, PUT IT IN PARK AND SHUT OFF ENGINE. UPON RESTART, IT WAS OK RETURNED CAR TO DEALER ON MAY 9, LEFT CAR FOR A WEEK. THEY SAID 2 THINGS, THEY AGREED THE FLOOR CARPETS WERE NOT AT FAULT AND WHEN ONE WAS AVAILABLE, THEY WOULD PUT SOME SORT OF RECORDER DEVICE ON THE CAR THAT I WOULD ACTIVATE ONLY WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. TODAY IS JULY 28, 2012 AND THEY HAVE NOT PRODUCED THE DEVICE. OCCASIONALLY, WHEN ROAD CONDITIONS ARE OK, I TRY TO TRIGGER THE CONDITION, BUT IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN. I'M NOT A BELIEVER THAT MECHANICAL THINGS FIX THEMSELVES I'VE SEEN MULTIPLE ARTICLES ON THE INTERNET ABOUT SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH 2005-2006 MUSTANGS AND ALSO FORD RECALLS OF OTHER MAKES/MODELS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS REGARDING ACCELERATOR PEDALS AND AUTOMATIC SPEED CONTROL MALFUNCTIONS CAUSING RAPID ACCELERATION NEEDLESS TO SAY, I DRIVE THE CAR WITH MUCH CAUTION AND A LOT LESS ENJOYMENT. *TR
I WAS SLOWLY TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE (CARS ON BOTH SIDES AND A CAR IN FRONT OF ME). I WAS IN A PARKING LOT TRAVELING AT IDLE SPEED. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO RUN UP. I IMMEDIATELY INCREASED MY PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING SO FAST THAT THE REAR TIRES WERE BURNING RUBBER. I IMMEDIATELY PUT THE CAR INTO PARK. MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AT FULL SPEED. I SHUT OFF THE IGNITION. THE ENGINE STOPPED. I WAITED A MOMENT AND THEN RESTARTED THE CAR WITHOUT TOUCHING ANYTHING. MY FOOT REMAINED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CAR RESTATED NORMALLY. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. IT HAS NOT RECURRED SINCE THE ORIGINAL INCIDENT ON MARCH 1. *TR
ON MY 2005 FORD MUSTANG V6 THE SPEEDOMETER OFTEN GETS STUCK OR PERFORMS ERRATICALLY AND STAYS STUCK WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. THIS IS A LARGE PAIN AS IT DOES NOT REGISTER ANY ACCURATE SPEED AND ONE MUST TURN THE CAR ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THE SPEEDOMETER TO ZERO. THE FAILURE OCCURS RANDOMLY ABOUT ONCE A WEEK. THE QUOTE TO REPLACE THIS PRODUCT IS RIDICULOUS AT AROUND $600. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SHIFTING FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG DEPLOYED HAPHAZARDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
SPEEDOMETER ERRATIC - SHOWS MILES PER HOUR WAY OUT OF RANGE OF ACTUAL MPH - I.E. SHOWS 120 MILES PER HOUR OR EVEN BEYOND WHILE ONLY GOING ABOUT 30; CAN ZERO OUT IF IN PARK AND SHUT OFF AND RESTART ENGINE, SLOWLY RESETS 5 MPH EACH TIME OFF AND ON AGAIN - TAKING A LOT OF TURNING OFF AND ON TO ZERO BACK OUT. HAVE READ AND HEARD OF MANY, MANY OTHER 2005 MUSTANG OWNERS HAVING SAME COMPLAINT - MUST BE RECALLED BY NOW? *TR *JS
SAFETY ISSUE: SPEEDOMETER READS AS MUCH AS 60 MPH OFF OF TRUE SPEED. WHEN AT A DEAD STOP, SPEEDOMETER SHOWS 60MPH. WHEN TRAVELING 60 MPH, SPEEDOMETER SHOWS 120 MPH. *TR
SPEEDOMETER GAUGE FAILURE. THE SPEEDOMETER GAVE PROGRESSIVELY MORE INCONSISTENT READINGS UNTIL IT FINALLY SETTLED BELOW THE 0 LINE AND NOW DOES NOT MOVE AT ALL. THE BATTERY LIGHT ALSO FLICKERS RANDOMLY, ALTHOUGH NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND WITH MULTIPLE BATTERIES OR THE ALTERNATOR. THE LIGHT COMES ON EVEN WHEN BATTERY TESTERS ARE SHOWING IT HAVING A CORRECT CHARGE. IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. *TR
AT AROUND 60K MILES, MY SPEEDOMETER AND TEMPERATURE GAUGES QUIT WORKING. FORD DEALER SAYS I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL AT OVER $1,000. *TR
MY TACHOMETER AND MY TEMPERATURE GAUGE ARE BOTH NOT WORKING. THE MOTOR THAT MOVES THE NEEDLE HAS GONE BAD AND I RESEARCHED IT AND MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM! I JUST BOUGHT A USED 2005 FORD MUSTANG AND WAS TOLD BY SELLER THAT MY RPM , TEMP, GAS, AND SPEED GAUGES DID NOT WORK BECAUSE FORD INSTALLED FAILING STEPPER MOTORS IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WHICH CONTROL THE MOVEMENT OF THE GAUGES. I LOOKED IT UP ON LINE AND IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT THESE PARTS ARE DEFECTIVE. THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPANIES ADVERTISING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IF I RUN OUT OF GAS OR AM DRIVING TOO FAST DUE TO FAULTY READINGS BAD THINGS CAN HAPPEN. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THESE GAUGES FOR FREE, SINCE THEY ARE DEFECTIVE. ALTHOUGH CAR IS 7 YEARS OLD, MILEAGE WAS ONLY 18000+ WHEN ALTERNATOR NEEDED REPLACING - $620. OUT OF WARRANTY SO NO HELP FROM FORD OR DEALER. OTHER OUT-OF-WARRANTY ISSUES INCLUDE BOTH INTERIOR DOOR PANELS COMING LOOSE - UPHOLSTERY SHOP HAD TO GLUE THEM BACK ON - $160., AND A CANISTER VENT VALVE HAD TO BE REPLACED - $310. DEALER ALSO UNABLE TO CURE BOXCAR-LIKE RIDE. *TR

MY 2005 FORD MUSTANG TEMPERATURE GAUGE READ HOT, INTO THE RED WARNING SECTION. I DROVE IT IMMEDIATELY TO AUBURN FORD. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR 4 HOURS AND TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW THERMOSTAT. THIS LED TO WATER FLOWING THROUGH THE AIR DUCTS AND INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT BEHIND THE GLOVE BOX. FORD PLACED 4"X6" PIECE OF FOAM OVER THE SMART JUNCTION BOX IN AN EFFORT TO "BANDAGE THE PROBLEM, RATHER THAN CORRECTING THE CAUSE. MY CAR IS KEPT IN A GARAGE AT NIGHT AND DURING THE DAY WHILE AT WORK. IT NEVER SITS OUT IN THE SUN OR RAIN. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THERE IS NO RECALL BECAUSE THERE WERE NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS FROM OWNERS. THAT CANNOT BE TRUE BECAUSE THE INTERNET IS FULL OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST $895 TO PAINT THE WHOLE HOOD AND IT WOULD HAVE A LIFETIME GUARANTY. I REFUSED TO PAY THAT AMOUNT AND THEY REDUCED IT DOWN TO $695.
