WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE GOT STUCK IN THE SNOW. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE SNOW WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN A LOUD POP NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE REAR, CAUSING THE VEHICLE NOT TO MOVE. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR CHECK UP, AND RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE REAR AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK
CORRECTION TO MY ORIGINAL COPMPLAINT MY 2002 RANGER REAR TIRES GOT STUCK IN A LIL SNOW ON THE STREET AND AS THEY HIT PAVMENT WHILE MOVING FOWARD I HEARD A POP FROM THE REAR THEN HEARD A FEW MORE WHILE TURNING CORNERS AND HAD A REAR END LOCK UP. TOOK TO DEALER ON FLAT BED AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER HAD SNAPPED (REAR AXLE HOUSING) AND THEY WILL NOT FIX IT. REAR AXLE HOUSINGS DO NOT BREAK LIKE THIS AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2002 FX4 MANUAL TRANS RANGERS FOR THIS SAME REASON AND FEEL THE AUTOS NEED TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED OR HURT. CONSEQUENCE IS REAR END LOCKUP.*AK
ALL FOUR OF THE VEHICLE TIRES (ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT) ARE SHOWING SIGN OF PREMATURE WEAR WITH LESS THEN 30,000 MILES. PLEASE PROVIDE THE TIRE INFORMATION (MAKE, MODEL, TIRE SIZE AND THE DOT NUMBERS). THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED.*AK
NHTSA CAMPAIGN 02V035000; FORD ISSUED AN REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL CASE RECALL. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT HAS A BENT AXLE IN WHICH IT COULD BREAK. THE VIN IS OUTSIDE THE REMEDY SCOPE. *NM *NM
2002 FORD RANGER STALLED. *BF THE DRIVE SHAFT JERKED AND SLAMMED WHEN ACCELERATING IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. THE DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED BUT THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. *NM
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON.DEALER SAID HARNESS UNDER FRONT PASSENGER SEAT CAME UNDONE FROM MOVING SEAT BACK AND FORTH WHEN ENTERING REAR SEAT OF VEHICLE.THEY RECONNECTED HARNESS AND CLEARED COMPUTER LIGHTCOST $162.50 TO RECONNECT HARNESS . WOULD LIKE REFUND FROM FORD FOR DEFECT IN WIRING HARNESS.NO NEW PARTS INVOLVED IN FIXING PROBLEM WITH HARNESS. I HAD 48,678 MILES GUARANTEED FOR 50,000 MILES. *AK
MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WITH BLINKING 4X THEN 7 TIMES. THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THE REASON MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME WAS BECAUSE THE CONNECTION WAS DIRTY. MY QUESTION TO THEM WAS WHY IS THEIR ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS IN NEED OF CLEANING? THEN THEY TURN AROUND AND CHARGE YOU LABOR TO CLEAN THE CONNECTION. *JB
A LOUD KNOCKING AND GRINDING NOISE WAS HEAD COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC INFORMED DETERMINED THAT FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER'S SIDE AXLES/TIRES, AND OTHER PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CONSUMER INFORMED THE MECHANIC THAT PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
SIDEWALL OF TIRE FAILED WHILE ON HIGHWAY. *JB
I WAS DRIVING ON HWY APPROX 70 MPH WHEN LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD PEELED OFF OF TIRE AND WRAPED IT SELF AROUND REAR AXEL. THIS CAUSED HEAVY DAMEGE TO LEFT REAR WUARTER PANEL AND TAIL LIGHT. TIRE STILL INFLATED BUT WITH NO TREAD. MANUFACTURER AND DEALER (FUTURA AND PEP BOYS REFUSE TO RETURN ANY PHONE CALLS.*AK
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A BRAKE PROBLEM. THE BRAKES ON ONE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WORE NORMALLY BUT THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT BRAKE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. CONSUMER PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH WAS TO COVER THE VEHICLE FOR UP TO 60,000 MILES. DEALER WILL NOT HONOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. *AK *NM
I HAVE LEARNED OF THIS "AUTO REV LIMITER" FUNCTION ON MY 2002 FORD RANGER PICKUP. I NOTICED THIS WHEN CLEARING SOME CLEANING FLUID FORM THE INTAKE OF THE ENGINE. IT LIMITED THE ENGINE TO 3500 RPM WERE IT OSCILLATED. I HAVE HEARD OF OTHER INSTANCES OF A GOVERNOR SET AT 85 MPH ON THIS TRUCK. I FEEL THIS IS UN-NECESSARY FOR FORD TO INSTALL THIS AND NOT MENTION IT IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. IF IT IS MENTIONS I DO NOT SEE IT. I FEEL THIS PROPOSES A RISK FACTOR IN DRIVING OR PASSING WHEN A LITTLE EXTRA SPEED MAY BE NEEDED. I HAVE NOT EXCEEDED 85 MPH IN THIS TRUCK AND KNOWING IT IS LIMITED TO THIS SPEED HELPS ME JUDGE WEATHER OR NOT TO PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD WITH THIS RESTRICTION OR IF I NEED TO ACT IN AN EMERGENCY WHAT THE TRUCK IS CAPABLE OF. IT NEEDS TO TOLD TO THE BUYING PUBLIC BEFORE A PURCHASE IS MADE ON THIS TRUCK. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A POLE HEAD ON. UPON IMPACT, DRIVER'S HEAD HIT THE WINDSHIELD. THIS RESULTED IN A CONCUSSION. DRIVER HAD BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE HOSPITAL FOR SEVERE HEADACHES. MANUFACTURER WAS PROVIDING NO ASSISTANCE. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY PARKED IN CONSUMER'S DRIVEWAY. *AK
CONSUMER FELL ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL AND STRUCK A TELEPHONE POLE AT 40 MPH. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.*AK *TC

CONSUMER COMPLAINED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT RATTLED WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, AND WHEN THE SEAT WAS NOT BEING OCCUPIED. VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS. THEY REPLACED THE SEAT TRACKS, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
I HAVE A 2002 FORD RANGER XLT EXT. CAB AND THE BRAKES STARTED SOME SQUEALING AROUND 23,000 MILES. WELL, I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD TO RESURFACE THE FRONT ROTORS AND REAR DRUMS. THE DEALER I THINK DID A GREAT JOB, IT TOOK THEM 4-5 HOURS, ALTHOUGH THEY DID IT AT THEIR COST. THE PADS THEY SAID WERE OK. I TALKED TO FORD ALREADY (DUE TO A SURVEY I FILLED OUT), AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD PASS IT ON TO THEIR ENGINEERS. WHAT GETS ME IS I ALSO OWN ANOTHER FORD AND THE BRAKES HAVE NEVER BEEN TOUCHED AT 68,500 MILES! NOW I HAVE GOT ALMOST 25,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK AND WHEN THEY HEAT UP AND/OR YOU APPLY THEM THEY ARE BARLY SQUELLING AGAIN. SO I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO EITHER TAKE IT BACK TO FORD OR GET ANOTHER TRUCK BRAND. IT SEEMS FORD KNOWS SOMETHING BECAUSE GO LOOK AT NEW FORD RANGER'S AT A DEALERSHIP AND THE BRAKES ARE BIGGER & BETTER! *AK
CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE. GEAR INDICATOR STUCK IN DRIVE, EVEN IF VEHICLE IS IN PARKED. PRELIMINARY FORD INSPECTION REVEALED 3D GEAR FAILURE.*AK
AFTER COMPLAINTS TO THE FORD DEALERABOUT SHAKING IN THE FRONT BRAKES THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND, I TOOK MY 2002 FORD RANGER WITH 27,000 MILES ON IT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHO IS A NAPA SERVICE CENTER. THE SHAKING BECAME VERY BAD AND THE MECHANIC WOULD FIT ME IN THE NEXT DAY TO RESUFACE THE ROTORS. THEY FOUND THE SILVER METAL ON THE ROTORS WAS FLACKING OFF AND THEY WERE WARPED TO THE POINT THAT THEY COULD NOT BE TURNED AND WERE NOT USABLE ANY MORE. WHEN I GOT TO THE GARAGE AT 4:30 PM ALL I COULD DO WAS HAVE THEM PUT ON NEW ROTORS SO I COULD HAVE TRANSPORTATION TO WORK THE NEXT MORNING AT 6:00 AM. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER THE NEXT MORNING, THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE IT WAS NOT DONE AT THE FORD DEALER. I DID NOT ASK FOR PAYMENT FOR THE WORK, JUST FOR COVERGE OF THE DEFECTIVE ROTORS. *AK
FRONT TIRES ON MY RANGER KEEP "CUPPING" CAUSING A NOISE AND VIBRATION FROM THE FRONT. DEALER SAYS I NEED TO KEEP ROTATING THE TIRES EVERY 5000 MILES WHICH I HAVE BEEN (WHICH I ALSO FEEL IS EXTREME). SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME IT IS BECAUSE FORD USES SOFT TIRES ON THIS MODEL. SOUNDS LIKE A DEFECT, MAYBE WHY THE EXPLORER'S KEPT ROLLING OVER.
BRAKE AND ROTOR PROBLEMS ON FORD RANGER. ROTORS HAD TO BE TURNED AND FRONT TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 12000 MILES BECAUSE THE ROTORS BECAME WARPED AND VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY. SAME CONDITION IS OCCURRING AGAIN AT 35000 MILES AND DEALER REFUSES TO FIX UNDER WARRANTY. TRANSMISSION HAS ALSO BEEN OVERHAULED TWICE DUE TO MALFUNCTION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH RIGHT WHEEL SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THIS CAUSED THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, DRIVER WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *AK
PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT DISCONNECTED WHILE DRIVING. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC REPLACED THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY. *AK
THE RADIATOR ON MY 2002 FORD RANGER HAD TO BE REPLACED ON MARCH 5, 2004. ON MARCH 17, 2004 A 30" X 7" X 6" PLASTIC DEFLECTOR LOCATED BEHIND THE RADIATOR DROPPED AND CAUGHT A RIDGE ON A SNOW COVERED ROAD SENDING THE TRUCK INTO A SNOW COVERED EMBANKMENT. WHEN I WENT TO WHALING CITY FORD AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND SAID THEY MUST NOT HAVE PUT THE DEFLECTOR BACK ON PROPERLY THEY SAID THE DEFLECTOR MUST HAVE COME OFF AS A RESULT OF STRIKING THE EMBANKMENT. THEY CLAIM THAT MARKS ON THE DEFLECTOR SHOW IT GOT DAMAGED AT THAT TIME. HOWEVER, OTHER THAN WHAT HAPPENED TO THE END THAT DROPPED TO THE ROADWAY, THE MARKS ON THE DEFLECTOR ARE FROM HAVING TO TWIST AND TURN THE DEFLECTOR TO BREAK IT OFF FROM THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE TRUCK SINCE THE TRUCK COULD NOT BE DRIVEN WITH THE DEFLECTOR HANGING HALF WAY OFF AND SCRAPING ALONG THE ROAD SURFACE. THE RADIATOR DID NOT GET DAMAGED AND THE RADIATOR IS FORWARD OF THE DEFLECTOR. THE IMPACT WITH THE EMBANKMENT WAS SO SLIGHT THAT THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THAT WOULD NOT HAVE KNOCKED A PROPERLY SECURED PART OFF THE TRUCK. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE BUMPER FROM THE IMPACT WITH THE EMBANKMENT. FURTHERMORE, THE SIDE OF THE DEFLECTOR THAT DROPPED HAD A PLASTIC PIN (MEANT TO HOLD THE DEFLECTOR IN PLACE) STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF THREE HOLES WHILE THE OTHER TWO HOLES APPEAR TO HAVE HAD NOTHING IN THEM. WE FILED A COMPLAINT ON FORD'S WEB SITE ON 12 APR 04 AND THEY HAVE, AT THIS WRITING, REFUSED TO HELP. THEY HAVE ALSO REFUSED TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS WE SUBMITTED BY E-MAIL. WE HAVE THE FAILED PART AND ARE WILLING TO SHOW IT TO ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED. *AK
INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH VEHICLE STALLED.VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND KEPT FOR TWO DAYS, BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK *MR

I PURCHASED A 2002 RANGER EDGE 4X4 , IT HAD 4 MILES ON IT. I HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE AIRBAG SENSOR, ABS SENSOR, FRONT END HAD TOBE REALIGNED DUE TO A BAD ALIGNMENT AT THE FACTORY,THE TIRES IN THE FRONT HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 4500 MILES. NOW AT 38000 MILES THE 4X4 DRIVETRAIN WAS LEAKING AT THE FRONT COVER. THE BREATHING TUBE WAS THROWING OIL OUT ONTO THE ENGINE . I WAS TOLD BY FORD COMPANY AND A FORD TECH. THAT THIS WAS A E4NGINNERING PROBLEM. IT WAS REPLACED AT MY COST OF 796.00. THE COVER WAS REPLACED WITH A PART THAT WAS USED PREVIOUS TO 1995, PART NUMBER IS FOF6TZ-4033-BA. MY COMPLAINT IS WHY IS THIS NOT A RECALL AND CAN I EXPECT FUTURE PROBLEMS. *JB
THE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WILL NOT RETRACT THE BELT MORE THAN A FEW INCHES. THE REMAINING BELT FALLS ONTO THE DOOR OPENING AND GETS PINCHED WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED. THIS DAMAGES THE BELT. *TR

CONSUMER WAS DRIVING TO THE STORE WHICH TOOK ABOUT 3 MINUTES. ON THE RETURN TRIP HOME HE BEGAN SMELLING SMOKE. THEN CONSUMER BEGAN TO SEE THE SMOKE COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. CONSUMER OPENED THE HOOD, AND COULD SEE THE ENGINE ENGULFED IN FLAMES. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE FIRE WAS OUT, BUT SMOKE CONTINUED FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE FIRE MARSHAL SAID THAT IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY UNDER WARRANTY. *AK THE DEALER DID NOT WANT TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD TO CALL THE INSURANCE COMPANY. (1) GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM FRONT TRANSFER CASE ON 4X4 DRIVETRAIN, NOTICEABLE AT 30 TO 40 MPH..PRECENT AT ALL SPEEDS MORE APPARENT AT SPEEDS DESCRIBED, AT HIGH SPEEDS 40 TO 80MPH GRINDING NOISE MASKED BY WIND/ROAD NOISE. NOISE STARTED AT UNDER 20000 MILES ON VEHICLE, VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 27K MILES AND GRINDING/NOISE IS MORE PRONOUNCED. (2) NO APPARENT COMPONENT FAILURE YET, SEVERAL RANGER 4X4 OWNERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM.(MEMBER OF A RANGER FORUM OF 1000+ MEMBERS). WILL IT CAUSE PREMATURE FAILURE OF FRONT DRIVE LINE COMPONENTS LEADING TO CRASH AND OR DEATH? (3) DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, ONLY WAY TO CORRECT IT IS TO USE HARDER TIRES; DEALER WILL NOT RECOMMEND GOODYEARS WHICH IS WHAT IS INSTALLED BY THE FACTORY. *AK
I OWN A 2002 FORD RANGER WITH A 3.0FEV IT HAS HAD THE PROBLEM RELATED TO NHTSA ID 10018746, FORD TSB 052212. WHILE THE TRUCK WAS UNDER WARRANTY THE DEALERS COULD NOT "FIND THE PROBLEM" AFTER THE WARRANTY RAN OUT THEY FOUND THIS ISSUE AND ARE WILLING TO FIX IT FOR SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS. *TR
TRUCK COMBUSTION WHILE PARKED ON PRIVATE PROPERTY. NO INVESTIGATION BY INSURANCE COMPANY. FIRE DEPT CLASSIFIED CAUSE AS UNKNOWN. *JB
ON 12/14/03 I WAS DRIVING EAST AT 50 MPH. WHEN A CAR RAN A STOP SIGN AND A FLASHING RED LIGHT. MY RANGER EDGE FULLY IMPACTED HIS VEHICLE DIRECTLY IN THE PASSENGER SIDE AT 50 MPH. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I PUSHED HIS VEHICLE OFF OF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INTO A TELEPHONE POLE WHICH BROKE AND CAME DOWN ACROSS THE TOP OF MY TRUCK. I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT & SHOULDER HARNESS. I WAS KNOCKED OUT FOR APPROXIMATELY. 20 MINUTES. I SUSTAINED INJURIES TO MY RIGHT KNEE, LEFT ELBOW AND TO THE BACK OF MY HEAD. THE FRONT END OF MY RANGER EDGE WAS PUSHED BACK INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ABOUT 16 INCHES. THIS IMPACT COVERED THE WHOLE OF THE FRONT END OF THE RANGER WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO BEND THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK BETWEEN THE BACK OF THE CAB AND THE FRONT OF THE BED. I HAVE OFFICIALLY INFORMED FORD AND SENT ALL THE REQUIRED INFORMATION INCLUDING PICTURES BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE FROM THEM. THEY SAID THEY MIGHT DO AN INVESTIGATION??? *LA
DRIVING A 2002 FORD RANGER WITH 19,831 MILES, A LOUD NOISE IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK OCCURRED, BRAKING WAS IMPAIRED, THE BRAKE PETAL WAS GOING UP AND DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT. ON DECEMBER 2, 2003, JOE TAYLOR FORD IN SENECA, PA , "VERIFIED CONCERN FOUND REAR WHEEL CYLINDERS FROZE, SPRINGS RUSTED, DRUMS WARPED AND ADJUSTERS FROZEN REPLACED ALL COMPONENTS." IN ADDITION THERE WAS BRAKE SHOE FAILURE. STAFF AT THE DEALERSHIP NOTED THIS WAS TYPICAL OF 2002 RANGERS AND STATED WE WERE IN SERIOUS DANGER IN DRIVING THE TRUCK. "THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND ONE THAT HAS BEEN OCCURRING FREQUENTLY IN RANGERS AND F-150'S." (PER STAFF) IN ADDITION IT RELATES TO NHTSA ITEM 620159 AND 10002516. THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE DRIVE SHAFTS (WHICH I HAVE HAD REPLACED FOR LOUD NOISES, IS PROBABLY BEING CAUSED BY REAR BRAKES THAT ARE CONSTANTLY ON. I HAVE ALSO HAD THIS TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES FOR A SLIPPING TRANSMISSION. THE RANGER BRAKE LINING WAS INSPECTED AND IT CAME OFF IN CHUNKS AND THE DRUMS WERE WARPED DUE TO HEAT. THIS RANGER IS UNDER ITS ORIGINAL 36,000 MILE GUARANTEE AND I STILL HAD TO PAY FOR PART OF THE REPAIRS. THIS TRUCK HAS A BRAKE SAFETY PROBLEM. OUR TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN IN THE WATER AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGE KEPT. BRAKE CYLINDERS AND ADJUSTERS DO NOT FREEZE IN 19,000 MILES UNLESS THERE IS A SERIOUS QUALITY PROBLEM. FIFTEEN MINUTES PRIOR TO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, THE AIR BAG LIGHT INDICATOR FLASHED THEN IT STAYED ON.*AK THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE, MINUTES LATER THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED AND THE VEHICLE HIT A WALL. *JB

I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL SINCE I BOUGHT THE RANGER EDGE PICKUP SINCE 2002. THE DEALERSHIP HAS CHANGED HANDS SINCE IS NOW LANDERS BUT WAS CALLED CRAIN FORD LINCOLN MERCURY. WHAT IS HAPPENING IS THE SPEED CONTROL IS DISENGAGING WHEN ACTIVATED AND NOT ACTIVATING WHEN TURNED ON AND THEN WORKING SOME TIME AFTER IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN A WHILE. I HAVE 105,000 MILES ESTIMATED BUT WHEN ENGAGED I HAVE HAD IT DISENGAGE NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE DRIVING. THIS WAS CHECKED BY FORD DEALERSHIP OVER 7 TIMES SINCE 2002 AND THEY STATED COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL AND STATED EVERYTHING IS OK BUT THE PROBLEMS STILL PERSIST AND IT SEEMS ONCE THE TRUCK GETS WARM IT STARTS WORKING BUT STOPS WORKING AS WELL. EVEN SOMETIMES WHEN THE TRUCK HASN'T BEEN RUNNING VERY LONG THE SPEED SYSTEM WANT ENGAGE AT ALL WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. IT IS VERY SCARY THOUGH WHEN IT DISENGAGES AND YOU ARE AWARE THAT IT IS NOT WORKING WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND COULD CAUSE SOMEONE TO RUN INTO ME IF I DON'T NOTICE IT DUE TO THE CHANGE OF LOSS OF SPEED. ALSO THERE HAVE BEEN MANY OCCASIONS WHEN TRYING TO ACTIVATE THE SPEED CONTROL AND IT WILL NOT ENGAGE WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE FOR LONG DRIVE TIMES. WHAT CAN BE DONE???? *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 2002 FORD RANGER ON THE FREEWAY. IT WAS RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, CLEAR SKIES, SUN OUT AND NO RAIN. SHE FELT THE TRUCK VIOLENTLY VEERED TO THE RIGHT, AND THOUGHT THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE HAD A BLOWN OUT. BUT THE TRUCK WAS THROWN INTO THE GUARD RAIL, A WITNESS BEHIND HER SAID THE WHEEL FLEW OFF THE TRUCK, THEN IT WENT AIRBORNE AND FLEW BACK TO THE LEFT OVER THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY, MY DAUGHTER HAD ONLY MILD INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE E.R. VIA AMBULANCE. IN ADDITION, THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED WITH THE TRUCK OR THE FLYING WHEEL. WHEN I SAW THE CAR AT THE WRECKER YARD, I NOTED THE WHOLE WHEEL AND PART OF THE AXLE WERE MISSING. MY DAUGHTER'S BOYFRIEND FOUND THE TIRE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE AXLE AND PART OF THE BRAKE COMPONENTS STILL ATTACHED. HAS THERE BEEN ANY OTHER REPORTS OF A WHEEL BREAKING OFF OF A FORD RANGER? IN RETROSPECT, THIS TRUCK HAS ONLY 6000 MILES AND THERE HAS BEEN TWO BLOWN OUTS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE IN WHICH I HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRE WITHIN THE PAST TWO MONTHS. THE TIRES ARE GOODYEAR. COULD THIS BE RELATED AS WELL OR IS IT A DIFFERENCE PROBLEM? *LA
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT. THE NEXT MORNING THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD ROLLED BACKWARDS AND ACROSS THE STREET. THE CONSUMER CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE HAD RELEASE WHILE THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS STILL IN THE PARK POSITION. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE CHECKED. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE FIBER GLASS CAP THAT COVERS THE PICK UP BED FLIPPED UP IN THE FRONT, CAUSING THE HYDRAULIC PISTONS TO BREAK FREE AND FLING INTO THE ROAD. THIS INCIDENT CAUSED THE COVER TO SPLIT STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE. DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. *AK

MY SON WAS INVOLVED IN A SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT WHEN HE DROVE INTO A SANDY DITCH WHILE AVOIDING ANOTHER VEHICLE. HE HIT A SAND HILL HEAD ON, AT APPROX 25 MPH. THE RANGER/EDGE WAS TOTALLED, NO ONE WAS INJURED, BUT THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPOLYED. THE BODY SHOP LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THERE ARE NO AIR BAG SENSORS, OR AIR BAG HARNESSES FOR THE SENDORS LOCATED IN THE FRONT PORTION OF THE TRUCK. THE SHOP CALLED FORD AND REQUESTED A DIAGRAM OF WHERE THE SENSORS AND WIRING SHOULD BE. USING THE FORD DIAGRAM IT IS OBVIOUS THERE WERE NO SENSORS OR WIRING. I AM WONDERING HOW MANY OTHER FORD RANGERS / EDGES ARE OUT THERE WITH NO SENSORS AT THE FRONT BUMPER. CONTACTED KEN GRODY FORD AND TALKED WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO DID NOT APPEAR CONCERNED. HE DIRECTED ME TO THE FORD COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT. *AK
