THE ONLY REASON I BOUGHT THIS 3.8LTR.93' TAURUS USED WAS THE PREVIOUS OWNERS HAD KEPT SUCH METICULOUS RECORDS AND CARE OF THIS VEHICLE. !! I NOW SEE BY LOOKING THROUGH NHTSA'S RECORDS THAT FORD MTR.CO HAS A TREMENDOUS PROBLEM ON THEIR HANDS (NOT OURS,THE OWNERS OF THESE LEMONS) AND APPARENTLY IS UNWILLING/REFUSING TO CORRECT THEIR DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS THAT CONSTITUTE A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD...IF THIS [XXX] GASKET HAD LET LOOSE AT RUSH HOUR TIME HERE IN ATLANTA ON 285,EVERY BODY WOULDHAVE BEEN KILLED!!! ..I GOT THE COLD SHOULDER FROM THE FORD DEALER HERE IN MARIETTA AS WELL AS THE FORD REP. OIL AND ANTIFREEZE WAS MIXING TOGETHER CAUSING VEHICLE TO SMOKE DUE TO A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. DEALER CONTACTED.*AK *TT
WHILE BEING PARKED FOR APPROXIMATELY 6-8 HOURS VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS UNDETERMINED.*AK
WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED WHILE DRIVING IN RAINSTORM. APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE.*AK
ALSO WE HAVE HAD THE TERMOSTATE REPLACED 5 TIMES THE CAR KEEPS OVERHEATING AND THE CAR SHOP CANNOT FIND OUT WHY. *AK
VEHICLE STALLS INTERMITTENTLY, MOSTLY BELOW 50 MPH. DEALER CANNOT FIND A CAUSE. *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT AFTER 12 MILES DRIVE, THE ENGINE BLEW AND A WHITE WHIPPED CRAM LIKE SUBSTANCE CAME OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS ALSO AT IDLE AND IT WAS HARD TO START DUE TO INTEGRATED CONTROL MODULE RELAY FAILURE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BECAUSE O2 SENSOR WAS DAMAGED FROM COOLANT CONTAMINATION. THE VEHICLE SMELLS OF COOLANT DUE TO RADIATOR LEAK. *YH
TIRE FAILED AFTER 30185 MILES. TIRE STORE WHERE PURCHASED CLAIMS SEPARATION IS TYPICAL AS HE HAS A BIN OF SEPARATED TIRES FOR ALL MANUFACTURES AT HIS BUILDING HE COULD SHOW ME. TIRE CENTER I DEALT WITH:BOB'S TIRE & AUTO SERVICE, 7991 W GRAND RIVER, PO BOX 1765, BRIGHTON MI 48116, (810)229-7005. ONE OF THE OTHER 3 TIRES IS CUPPING IN THE CENTER WHERE THE OTHER 2 ARE NOT (THE SERVICE CENTER CLAIMS THIS IS FROM IMPROPER ROTATION), DOT ON OTHER CUPPING TIRE IS U8UR C17397.I REFUSED TO HAVE A SINGLE TIRE REPLACED, AS I WANT ALL TIRES REPLACED AND WILL GO TO ANOTHER TIRE SERVICE CENTER FOR THE WORK. *AK (DOT NUMBER: U8URC17407 TIRESIZE: P205/65R15)

WHILE TRAVELING AT 35 MPH DRIVER NOTICED BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM TAILPIPE. DRIVER PARKED VEHICLE, AND CONTACTED A MECHANIC. MECHANIC STATED THAT HEAD ENGINE WAS BAD.*AK
BRAKE PRESSURE IS VERY LOW. BRAKE PEDAL IS VERY SOFT GOING ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR, RESULTING IN EXTENDING STOPPING DISTANCE. CONSUMER NOT AWARE WHETHER FRONT OR REAR BRAKES.*AK
MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION., VEHICLE WON'T DOWNSHIFT OR ACCELERATE PAST 2ND GEAR.*AK
AFTER DRIVING ABOUT ONE HOUR WITH THE HEAD LIGHTS ON, THEY STARTED TO GO OFF AND COME BACK ON. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY HAZARD AND CALLED THE DEALER WHO SAID BASED ON VIN # VEHICLE WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL. *YH
REARVIEW MIRROR KEEPS FALLING OFF INSIDE WINDSHIELD, HAD MIRROR REPAIRED THREE TIMES. ADHESIVE FAILS TO BIND MIRROR TO VEHICLES WINDSHIELD INDEFINITELY. *AK

COOLANT WAS LEAKING CAUSING VEHICLE TO RUN ROUGH. HEATER BLOWS COLD AIR. DEALER DIAGNOSED VEHICLE BY DOING A BLOCK TES. EXPLAINATION NOT GIVEN .
VEHICLE PARKED. WAS TRYING TO JUMP START VEHICLE WITH A JUMPER KIT FROM K MART WHEN BATTERY EXPLODED IN OWNER'S FACE. CRACKED BATTERY HOUSING.*AK THE VEHICLE HEAD LITHTS BLINK OFF. *YD
VEHICLE STALLS OUT WHILE DRIVING. CONTACTED DEALER, HAD HEAD GASKET REPLACED. HOWEVER, PROBLEM REOCCURRED. HAD HEAD GASKET REPLACED AGAIN. *AK CONSUMER HAS BEEN ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, THE PAN PLUG LEFT UNDONE CAUSING VEHICLE TO LOSE OIL, THE RADIATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO OVER TORQUE BOLTS WHICH BURSTED AROUND THE CORE, THE ENGINE IS KNOCKING AND THE OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED DUE TO LACK OF OIL. CONSUMER HAS LOST TRUST IN THE DEALERSHIP. HEAD LIGHTS FAILED, LIGHT SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE WIPERS WERE NOISY, DEALER REPLACED THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH AND WIPER MOTOR. THERE IS A POPPING NOISE WHEN TURNING, THERE IS A RUBBING NOISE IN THE RIGHT FRONT ON TURNS AND WHEN BACKING UP. THE AIR CONDITIONER IS NOT BLOWING COLD AIR, SHRATER VALVE AND A/C REFRIGERANT WAS REPLACED. THE KEY SWITCH FAILED. THE FAULTY ANTENNA MOTOR FAILED. THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD TO BE REPLACED. TIE ROD WAS REPLACED. *TT
HEADLIGHTS GO OFF AND ON INTERMITTENTLY. ALSO, WARNING SIGNAL SOUNDS EVEN WHEN NO LIGHTS ARE LEFT ON AND KEYS ARE OUT OF IGNITION, LEADING TO THE THOUGHT OF A SHORT IN THE IGNITION.
WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE RIDES VERY ROUGH. FRONT LEFT SPRING BROKE OFF. THERE ARE TWO RECALLS, 8709 98 I 002 000 AND 8626 98 V 094 000. *AK JLG.

I HAVE A 1993 FORD TAURUS 3.0 V6. I HAVE READ ABOUT THE 3.8 V6'S WITH HEAD GASKET PROBLEMS. AT JUST 71000 MILES I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM MY PARENTS, WHO BOUGHT IT NEW. MY FATHER IS A RETIRED NYC TRANSIT AUTHORITY MECHANIC, AND HE WAS METICULOUS ABOUT THE UPKEEP OF HIS VEHICLES. NOW I AM FACE WITH AN AUTOMOBILE THAT IS NOTHING MORE THAN A HUGE PAPERWEIGHT.OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS IT SEEMS THAT I WAS JUST THROWING GOOD MONEY AFTER BAD. A COUPLE OF HUNDRED HERE, $700 FOR A COMPLETE OVERHAUL OF THE A/C SYSTEM, ETC. I DO NOT HAVE THE CASH TO SPEND APPROXIMATELY $1300 ON REPAIRS. I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I WENT TO YOUR WEBSITE AND BROUGHT UP THE INFORMATION ON MY '93 TAURUS. THE AMOUNT OF TSB'S THAT AFFECT MY CAR ASOUNDED ME. I HAVE PAID FOR REPAIRS TO SOME, AND THOUGHT OTHERS WERE JUST AGE ISSUES. THESE TSB'S THAT DIRECTLY AFFECT MY AUTOMOBILE INCLUDED; 93-23-6,94-19-4,94-16-3,96-7-5,96-15-3,95-3-4,96-22-1,93-3-9,&95-19-1. AS I STATED, THIS CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN MY FAMILY. WHY HASN'T FORD TRIED TO CONTACT US ON ANY OF THESE ISSUES? ON ONE OF THESE TSB'S, WE DEVELOPED A LEAK IN A COOLING LINE. THE DEALERSHIP CHAGED US $360 FOR REPAIRS, WHEN WE FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE COVERED BY FORD, WE WERE ONLY REIMBUSED $60. FORD SAID THE DEALER SHOULD REIMBURSE US THE BALANCE, AND THE DEALER SAID THAT FORD SHOULD REIMBURSE US. GUESS WHAT, EXCEPT FOR THE $60, WE NEVER GOT REIMBUSED THE ADDITIONAL $300. I AM AT WITS END. MY WIFE AND I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM MY MOTHER A 5 YEARS AGO, WHEN OUR FAMILY STARTED TO GROW. OBVIOUSLY WITH JUST 71,000 MILES SHE DOES NOT DO A LOT OF DRIVING. SHOPPING AND WORK FOR HER ARE ALL WITHIN A 15 MILE RADIUS. BUT WITH THE LOSS OF A VEHICLE SHE HAS HAD TO REDUCE THE AMONT OF WORK SHE WOULD NORMALLY PUT IN BY 50%. IS THERE ANY HELP OUT THERE?
IT SEEMS THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF 93 FORD TARUS HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS...COMPANY IS ONLY COMPENSATING OWNERS OF 94 AND 95 MODELS...CAN ANYTHING BE DONE TO HELP THOSE OF US WHO HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM BUT NOT THE "RIGHT" YEAR?NO SAFETY DEFEC TLISTED. *AK
I RECENTLY READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT SPONTANEOUS FIRES IN FORD MODELS ON CNN. I USED TO HAVE A FORD TAURUS WHICH CAUGHT ON FIRE. LUCKILY WE PUT IT OUT BEFORE IT GOT VERY LARGE BUT THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS BURNT AND IT WAS UNREPAIRABLE.
SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO DOWNTOWN FORD TO THE MANAGER - DAVE MCDANIAL - 916/442-6931 NO RESPONSE FROM DOWNTOWN FORD. NO SAFETY DEFECT MENTIONED. *AK
SECOND EPISODE OF TREAD SEPARATION. TIRE WAS REPLACED ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO FOR TREAD SEPARATION. BRIDGSTONE HAS TOLD US THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL, AND IT IS NOT AFFECTED BY A RECALL, BUT THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN A YEAR WE HAVE EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION.ND. *AK (TIRESIZE: 205/65R15)
RECALL 98 I 002 000/FRONT COIL SPRINGS: LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL CAMPAIGN. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION ON THIS MATTER.*AK
I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT THE RECALL WAS ON THE 3.8L ENGINE MOTOR MOUNTS, NOT 3.0L. THIS CAUSED A SIGNIFICANT LOSS IN POWER AND ACCELERATION DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. AN ADDITIONAL PROBLEM IS BEING EXPERIENCED WITH HEADLIGHTS NOT STAYING ON. AGAIN FORD SAYS MY CAR DOES NOT MEET THIS RECALL NOTIFICATION.
WHILE PARKING VEHICLE MADE A BANGING NOISE, CONSUMER TRIED TO DRIVE VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT MOVE BECAUSE COIL SPRING SNAPPED IN HALF, AND WAS PUSHING AGAINST TIRE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
FIRST IGNITION MODULE WENT OUT AT APPROX. 67,000 MILES, THE NEXT ONE AT ABOUT 97,000, AND THE THIRD ONE WENT OUT AT 104,800 MILES. IN ALL THREE REPAIRS, THE PICK-UP COIL WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE CAR RAN WELL AFTER EACH REPAIR - FOR A WHILE! NOW, ONLY 1200 MILES AFTER THE THIRD MODULE REPLACEMENT, THE MODULE HAS FAILED AGAIN. DESPITE A COURT ORDERED RECALL (WHICH FORD IS APPEALING) FORD CONTINUES TO SELL DEFECTIVE IGNITION MODULES BOTH THROUGH THEIR DEALERS AND THROUGH INDEPENDANT PARTS STORES. WE ARE FRUSTRATED AT HAVING TO PAY EXHORBITANT PRICES FOR THIS INFERIOR PART AGAIN AND AGAIN. WE HAVE RETAINED ALL REPAIR BILLS EXCEPT THE FIRST (IGNITION MODULE) ONE, BUT IT MAY BE A LONG TIME BEFORE THE APPEALED CASE GETS TO COURT. WE WOULD LIKE FORD TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SITUATION NOW. *AK
THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN DEFECT. THE ENGINE STOPPED AND SMKE BILLOWED FROM THE HOOD. WE WERE ABLE TO PULL SAFELY OFF THE ROAD.*AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING 35MPH ON HIGHWAY AND VEHCLE OVERHEATED AND THICK SMOKE CAME FROM EXHAUST PIPE . VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP.*AK
REAR TIRES HAD BUBBLES LOCATED ON THE OUTSIDE OF TIRES. TIRES EXPLODED, AND RESIDUE FROM THE TIRES, DAMAGED VEHICLE. *AK
THIS IS A 1993 FORD TAURUS WITH 59000 MILES THAT BLEW HEAD GASKET WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. CALLED FORD AND THEY WILL DO NOTHING TO HELP COMPENSATE THIS WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS MOTOR. THERE ARE MANY MANY PEOPLE ON THE WEB POSTING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME RESULTS. NOTHING FROM FORD. *AK
ENGINE IS RUNNING VERY ROUGH, SOUNDS LIKE CONSUMER IS DRIVING A TRUCK.*AK
THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL WHENEVER I LET UP ON THE ACCELERATOR, THEN SHIFTS BACK INTO GEAR HARD WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS APPLIED AGAIN. THE ONLY THING THAT SLOWS THE CAR IS TO USE THE BRAKES, IT DOES'NT DECCELERATE AT ALL JUST BY LETTING OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL (UNLESS GOING UPHILL). THIS IS ESPECIALLY PROBLEMATIC WHEN DRIVING DOWN STEEP HILLS, BECAUSE THE ENGINE WILL NOT HOLD THE CAR NO MATTER WHAT POSITION THE GEAR SELECTOR IS IN, IN FACT IT WILL ACTUALLY INCREASE IN SPEED. THE OPERATORS MANUAL RECOMENDS SHIFTING TO A LOWER GEAR WHEN TRAVELING DOWN A PARTICULARLY LONG OR STEEP INCLINE, BUT IN THIS CAR THAT PARTICULAR STRATEGY IS TOTALLY USELESS BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL IF THE ENGINE IS NOT PULLING. EVEN WHEN USING THE CRUISE CONTROL, IF THE CAR GOES DOWNHILL, THE CAR WILL JUST PICK UP SPEED BY GRAVITY AND THE TRANSMISSION THEN SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH FRONT LEFT TIRE HAD A FLAT. THIS WAS CAUSED BY BROKEN SPRINGS. SPRINGS HAD WEDGED IN TIRE AND, CAUSED IT TO GO FLAT. DEALER CHECKED OTHER STRUTS, ALL SPRINGS WERE BROKEN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING ENGINE STARTED SHAKING, WHITE SMOKE CAME FROM EXHAUST, HEAD GASKET WAS BLOWN. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ENGINE STOPPED, AND STEERING CONTROL/ BRAKING SYSTEM WERE LOST. A PRIVATE MECHANIC INFORMED CONSUMER THAT HEAD GASKET WAS BLOWN, AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED, POSSIBLY THE HEADS. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS. *AK

WAS DRIVING 30MPH AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM EXHAUST. HAD A 3.8LITER ENGINE. HEAD GASKETS HAD BLOWN. CONTACTED MANUFACTURER, AND SPOKE TO REPRESENTATIVE #2072. WAS INFORMED LOW FAILURE RATE ON THOSE VEHICLES, AND NO RECALLS EVER ISSUED.*AK CONSUMER STATES HE CONTACTED FORD HEADQUARTERS AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY SPENT OVER THEIR BUDGET AND THAT THE VEHICLE THAT CONSUMER HAS THE YEAR IS NOT INCLUDED. *JB
