THE FRONT AIR BAG LIGHT HAS COME ON 5 DIFFERENT TIMES SINCE JAN 19,2001. THE FIRST 3 TIMES THE LIGHT WAS OUT BY THE TIME I GOT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM HAD NO MEMORY AND NO INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE IF THE LIGHT WAS OUT. THE FOURTH TIME THE LIGHT CAME ON BY LEAVING THE CAR IN DRIVE AND THE ENGINE RUNNING I GOT THE CAR TO THE DEALER WITH THE LIGHT STILL ON. THEY STOPPED THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED IT AND THE LIGHT WENT OUT. THE STORY THAT DAY WAS THAT THE SYSTEM DID HAVE A MEMORY AND I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 8 JAN TO HAVE IT CHECKED AND FIXED. I PICKED THE CAR UP ON 08JAN02 THE LIGHT WAS OUT BUT I TOLD THEM I COULD STILL HEAR A SLIGHT ALTERNATOR ?? WHINE BUT THEY ASSURED THAT COULDN'T BE A PROBLEM.*AK
EXCESSIVE FRONT TIRE WEAR DUE TO DESIGN AND/OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN UPPER STRUT PLATE INSTALLATION, RESULTING IN IMPROPER ALIGNMENT/CHAMBER THAT CANNOT BE CORRECTED THROUGH REALIGNMENT. THIS CAN RESULT IN TIRE FAILURE, WITH OBVIOUS CATASTROPHIC RESULTS. TS
THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT BUCKLE FAILED TO UNLOCK.*JB
WHILE IN MOTION, CONSUMER STEPPED ON BRAKES AND IT MADE A GRINDING NOISE AND THE WHEEL WOULD SHAKE. CONSUMER HAD VEHICLE SERVICED, BOTH FRONT ROTORS WERE MACHINED. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS ALONG WITH THE BRAKE, WHEN PRESSED IT GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. *JG
MY 2000 FORD TAURUS SE, WITH 31,900 MILES ON IT, HAS RECENTLY DEVELOPED A SIX (6) INCH LONG SPLIT IN THE SHEET METAL SKIN INSIDE THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR JAM ON THE DOOR PILLER. THE SPLIT IN THE SHEET METAL IS WIDE ENOUGH TO SEE THE INTERIOR OF THE DOOR PILLER. THIS DEFECT WILL BE REPORTED TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP ON JANUARY 6,2003. THE DEFECT WAS FIRST DISCOVERED ON JANUARY 4, 2003. I WOULD CONSIDER THIS DEFECT EXTREMELY SERIOUS SINCE THE DOOR PILLAR IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE VEHICLE'S SAFETY MECHANISM. PHOTOGRAPHS HAVE BEEN TAKEN OF THE DEFECT AND CAN BE MAILED TO YOUR OFFICE UPON REQUEST.
DEFECTIVE PART (BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH) REPLACED ONCE UNDR RECALL. 2ND REPLACEMENT BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH LASTED ONLY ABOUT NINE MONTHS, SAME AS FIRST ONE, AND FORD WON'T PAY FOR REPLACEMENT, EVEN THOUGH 1ST DEFECTIVE PART WAS OBVIOUSLY REPLACED WITH ANOTHER DEFECTIVE PART. OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND REPLACEMENT PARTS UNDER RECALL SHOULDN'T BE AS BAD AS THEY PART THEY REPLACED.*AK
BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD CONTINUOUSLY STAY ON, ALSO, HAS AFFECTED CRUISE CONTROL CONTACTED DEALER. *AK
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES AT SLOW SPEED THERE IS A GRINDING SOUND AND THE PEDAL GOEDS TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER HAS REPLACED ROTORS, BUT COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. ROTOR REPLACEMENT DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING 40-60 MPH ON HIGHWAY, THEFT LIGHT FLASHES ON MOMENTARILY AND VEHICLE STALLS AND SHUTS DOWN. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON AT LEAST 5 OCCASIONS. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DEALER 4 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. ON THE FIRST RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP, DEALER STATED NOTHING SHOWED UP ON DIAGNOSTIC CHECK, AND THEY REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. AFTERWARDS WE BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IGNITION SWITCH. ON THE 2ND RETURN TO DEALERSHIP, WAS TOLD IT WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AND WE WOULD HAVE TO KEEP DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT BECAME MORE REGULAR. ON THE 3RD RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY REPLACED THE STARTER. CAR IS NOW AT DEALER, HAS BEEN THERE FOR 6 DAYS WITHOUT ANY INFORMATION ON STATUS BEING PROVIDED BY DEALER. WE FEEL CAR IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. WHAT HELP CAN WE GET?*AK
AT STARTUP THE INTAKE MANIFOLD EXPOLDED RESULTING IN TOTAL DISTRUCTION. SHRAPNEL WAS IMBEDED IN INSULATION COVER ON THE HOOD AND FOUND THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, THE WINDSHIELD WASHER MODULE ON THE RIGHT SIDE WAS BLOWN OFF AND FOUND APROX 5' FROM THE CAR. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE FOR HARD STARTING AND FUEL SYSTEM CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FOR THE PAST YEAR. HAD THE HOOD BEEN OPEN THE BLAST WOULD HAVE SENT SHRAPNEL OUT OF THE AREA AND INTO WHOEVER WAS STANDING NEARBY.*AK
BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON ALL DAY, CAUSING VEHICLE TO STAY IN PARK.*AK
VEHICLE WAS GOING 25MPH AND HIT A POT HOLE. PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED FOR APPOINTMENT.*AK
VEHICLE WILL NOT COME OUT OF PARK. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER. SECONDLY, BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT SHUT OFF.*AK
I HAVE HAD THE RACK AND PINION REPLACED IT HAS FAILED AGAIN. THE FRONT HALF SHAFTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED THEY HAVE FAILED AGAIN. I HAVE PAID FOR MANY FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENTS WHICH WON'T HOLD. I'VE PAID FOR NEW BRAKES AND MANY TIRE AND WHEEL BALANCNING WHICH ALSO HAVEN'T HELPED. CARL GREGORY FORD DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE FRONT END OF MY CAR AND REFUSE TO DO ANY OTHER REPAIRS UNTIL THE ENGINEER DRIVES IT. I'VE HAD ONE APPOINTMENT WITH THE ENGINEER FOR WHICH HE DIDN'T SHOW UP. THE NEXT APPOINTMENT IS JULY 29 WHO KNOWS WHAT RUN AROUND I WILL GET THEN. I HAVE HAD AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT END OF MY CAR FOR OVER 7 MONTHS AND 10000 MILES. THE CAR WILL NOT HOLD AN ALIGNMENT, THE FRONT END POPS,GRINDS, AND CRACKS, AND DRIVES VERY LOOSE. IT DOES NOT HANDLE THE ROAD WELL AT ALL. IT ISN'T SAFE FOR ME, ESPECIALLY FOR MY CHILDREN NOT TO MENTION ANY OTHER VEHICLE ON THE ROAD ANYWHERE NEAR ME. THE DPFE SENSOR HAS ALSO BEEN REPLACED, WHAT IS THAT? PLEASE HELP ME TO GET MY CAR SAFE TO DRIVE AGAIN. THANKS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT HEADLIGHTS BECAME EXTREMELY DIM. DEALER IS UNABLE TO LOCATE SOURCE OF PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN WEATHER IS 32 DEGREES OR LOWER THE BRAKES DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY AND REQUIRE EXCESSIVE EFFORT. THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL NOT DEPRESS AND WILL STICK AT TOP. IF VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN AND BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THE CAR WILL NOT STOP. THE DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR 2 TIMES UNSUCCESSFULLY. TS
FAILURE OF AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT IN 2001 FORD TAURUS. *MR THIS WAS A HIGH SPEED CRASH WHERE THE CONSUMER COULD NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND IMPACTED A CONCRETE BRIDGE RAIL. *SC WHEN THE CONSUMER FIRST TOOK POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE, IT HAD A BAD SHIMMY IN THE FRONT END WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE DEALER FOUND THE ROTORS WERE WARPED, A FEW DAYS AFTER THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE FISH TAILED, THE DEALER THEN DISCOVERED THE REAR DRUMS WERE NOT ROUND AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. MONTHS LATER THE VEHICLE FISH TAILED AGAIN AND THE TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED. *JB *SC
VEHICLE KEEPS CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING IT. IN THE MORNINGS VEHICLE DOES NOT WANT TO START. ALSO, MECHANIC TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE. *AK
MY COMPLAINT ABOUT THE REAR SUSPENSION OF MY VEHICLE IS THAT THE BODY FRAME SUSPENDS DOWN OVER THE REAR TIRES CAUSING RUBBING WITH FRAME AND REAR TIRES. ALSO CAUSES EXHAUST SYSTEM TO VIBRATE AGAINST FLOORING OF VEHICLE.

I HAVE HAD MY BRAKES WORKED ON MY 2000 TAURUS ABOUT EVERY 6 MONTHS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY 2 MECHANICS THAT THE CAR MODEL IS SEVERELY UNDER BRAKED. THE PROBLEM CAUSES THE ROTORS TO WARP. I HAVE HAD ONE ACCIDENT WITH THE CAR WERE I SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP IF THE BRAKES OPERATED PROPERLY. *LA
DURING A HEAD ON COLLISION, DRIVER AND PASSENAGER DOOR SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT FRONT AIR BAG THERE WERE MANY INJURIES, CONCUSION, HEAD, NECK, BACK SPRAINS AND STRAINS.
#1 WIRE TO THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH LOCATED ON THE BRAKE PREDAL BROKE AT THE WIRE TO SWITCH CONNECTOR. THE WIRE LOOM WAS MOUNTED TO0 SHORT AND DID NOT ALLOW FOR BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL. THE INITIAL PROBLEM WAS FOR INTERMITTEN BRAKE LIGHTS. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM AT WHICH TIME I TROUBLE SHOOTED THE PROBLEM MY SELF. WITH NO BRAKE LIGHTS THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT COME OUT OF PARK AND THERE WAS NO BRAKE LIGHTS WHEN STOPPING CAUSING A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT. ADDITIONAL WIRE WAS ADDED TO THE FACTORY WIRING AT THE SWITCH CONNECTOR TO ALLOW FOR BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL. THIS COULD CAUES POTENTIAL WIREING PROBLEMS AT A LWTER DATE. ALL REPAIRS WERE MADE BY SELF. I AM AN ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC. *AK
THIS IS THE THRID AND LAST FORD CAR I WELL BUY, ON-LESS IT WAS MADE BEFORE 1970! WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR PULLS TO THE LEFT AND THERE'S A SQEAKING SONUD COMING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE PULLING TO THE LEFT CAUSED THE INSIDE OF TIRE'S TO WEAR. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT END VIBRATED BADLY. THE BRAKE ROTORS HAD TO BE RESURFACED NO LESS THAN THREE TIME DO TO WARPING. ONE TIME, THE BALL-JOINT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANT, BUT I WAS BILLED FOR THE REALIGNMENT BY FAIRLANE FORD IN DEARBORN MI.. IT WAS SAID THAT THE TIRE'S WAS AT FAULT. THERE SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM OR BAD METAL IN THE ROTORS. (90% OF MY DRIVING IS OPEN ROAD) THERE'S NO GOOD EXPLANATION OR JUSTIFICATION FOR THESE REPETITVE MALFUNCTION STARTING ON A VEHICLE THAT HAS LESS THAN 11,000 MILES.. P.S I HAD TO LEAVE OUT SOME OF THE LITTLE THINGS.U. *AK

TIRES: REPORTED VIBRATION , SHIMMY AND PULLING TO THE LEFT. TOOK TO DEALER 6/24/2000 (1829) MILES, BALANCED TIRES. ON 11/14/2000 (9061)MILES, 04/23/2001 (12871) BALANCED TIRES. FINALLY, 5/25/2001 (14518) REPLACED TWO FRONT TIRES. VIBRATION AND SHIMMY STOPPED BUT KEPT PULLING TO THE LEFT. ON 10/10/2001 (23876) MILES, CHARGED ME FOR ALIGNMENT, CAR STOPPED PULLING. TRANSMISSION: AT APPROXIMATELY 40800 MILES CAR HAD A NOTICEABLE SHUDDER WHILE GOING IN REVERSE. TOOK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A CRACKED CASING AS NOTED IN TSB 15559 NHTSA NUMBER (630095) CAUSED BY MISS MANUFACTURE OF A PART. WAS INFORMED DEALER OR FORD MOTOR CO. WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH REPAIR COST TO EXCEED $1495. BRAKES: REPORTED BRAKE PROBLEM ON 5/25/2001 AND 10/10/2001 WHEN IT WAS SERVER, SHAKING AND CONTROL PROBLEMS WHEN STOPPING. DEALER CUT FRONT ROTORS WHICH WAS OUT OF SPEC.- PROBLEM IS BACK. FUEL: HAVE SMELLED GAS IN MY CAR MANY TIMES. BOUGHT TO DEALERS ATTENTION AND OF COURSE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. CAR IS TO HAVE 18 GAL. TANK BUT RUNS OUT OF GAS BEFORE THAT. GAS GAUGE READS EMPTY AT 12 GAL. AND WAS TOLD IT WAS BUILT TO BE THAT WAY. SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FILED WITH YOU ALSO DESCRIBE MY PROBLEMS. AFTER ABOUT 3.5 HOURS OF HIGHWAY DRIVING FROM DENVER TO LAS VEGAS, THE TIRE BLEW OUT OUTSIDE OF GRAND JUNCTION, CO. IN 60+F TEMPS. THE TIRE STARTED TO CHUNCK OUT BEFORE IT BLEW-OUT. I THOUGHT MY WIFE WAS HITTING DEBRIS IN THE ROAD BEFORE THE TIRE BLEW-OUT. THE TIRE BLEW-OUT AT THE SIDEWALL WHERE THE SIDEWALL AND TREAD COME TOGETHER. I HAVE THE TIRE IN MY POSSESSION IF YOU'D LIKE ME TO SEND IT TO YOU. A TIRE SHOP EXAMINED 2000, FORD, TAURUS, AND DETERMINED THAT LEFT FRONT AND LEFT REAR FIRESTONE, AFFINITY TIRES, SIZE: P215/60R16, DOT: W2X8IRT389 SHOWED SIGNS OF TREAD SEPARATION. THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 36,000 MILES ON THE TIRES, AND THEY ARE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON VEHICLE. *AK *SLC

I BELIEVE THAT THIS TIRE FAILURE IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I HAVE A PHOTOGRAPH OF THE TIRE THAT CLEARLY SHOWS "TIRE SEPARATION." WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO FILE A CLAIM WITH FORD, THEY TOLD ME THAT FIRESTONE WAS RESPONSIBLE. WHEN I CONTACTED FIRESTONE, THEY WOULD NOT ACCEPT A CLAIM BECAUSE THE TIRE WAS NOT SUBJECT TO FACTORY RECALL. FIRESTONE THEN TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE TIRE TO A FIRESTONE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. WHEN I EXPLAINED THAT I WAS ON VACATION AND HAD TO HAVE EMERGENCY REPAIRS, THEY TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD HAVE "SAVED THE TIRE" FOR INSPECTION. I TOLD FIRESTONE THAT IS WAS NOT REASONABLE OR POSSIBLE FOR ME TO DO THAT BECAUSE MY CAR WAS FILLED WITH LUGGAGE AND I WAS NOT GOING TO DRIVE AROUND FOR 5 DAYS WITH A DIRTY TIRE ON MY PASSENGERS LAP. FIRESTONE REFUSED TO OFFER ME ANY ALTERNATIVES AND REFUSED TO ACCEPT A CLAIM NOTHWITHSTANDING THE SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES INVOLVED. THE FACT THAT THESE TIRES HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. FURTHERMORE, IT IS ENTIRELY POSSIBLE THAT THIS TIRE MAY BE SUBJECT OF RECALL IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE OF COMPLAINTS LIKE THIS SENT TO NTSB.*AK (TIRESIZE: P215/60R16)
TOOK CAR BECAUSE BRAKES WERE SQUEAKING AND VIBRATING DURING USE, ROTORS WERE WARPED, VEHICLE WAS SOLD LIKE THIS, ALSO HAD PROBLEMS STARTING VEHICLE. TOOK INTO SHOP FOR REPAIR, WHEN DROVE CAR NEXT DAY, BRAKES WERE WORSE, WHEN STOPPING AT 35-40 MPH BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND VIBRATED ALOT. *AK
VEHICLE WAS GOING IN FOR A ROUTINE CHECK AND MECHANIC SPOTTED AN OIL LEAK. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE OIL PAN . BUT VEHICLE SMELLS LIKE OIL WHEN STOPPING, AND OIL SMELL CAME FROM INSIDE OF VEHICLE.*AK
