THE CONTACT AND A PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED FOR THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED TO ASSIST WITH STOPPING. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,010.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, SHE HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND DRIVE OVER THE SIDEWALK, CRASHING INTO A SIGN. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO FILED A REPORT ON THE CONTACT'S BEHALF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 187,000.
FROM A SPEED OF 20 MPH, I BEGAN TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN FOR A STOP SIGN AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE EVEN AS I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES. I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY AND WHEN I RELEASED THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 10 - 12 TIMES SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT. I HAVE TRIED TO DRIVE THIS CAR AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE DUE TO THIS PROBLEM AND WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE HAVING FORD CORRECT WHATEVER DEFECTIVE MECHANICAL ISSUE IS CAUSING THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION. *TR
RAN TWO ERRANDS. GOT BACK IN CAR, STARTED UP, PUT IN GEAR AND NOTHING. MADE WHIRRING NOISE, BUT WOULDN'T GO INTO GEAR. COULD NOT BACK UP, GO FORWARD, NOTHING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN A PARTIALLY DEPRESSED POSITION AND THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
FOR NO APPARENT REASON, THE CAR WAS DRIVING FINE ONE MOMENT AND THEN THERE WAS NO DRIVE IN ANY GEAR. TOTAL COST FOR TOWING AND REPAIR WAS $3086. TRANSMISSION SHOP SAID REASON FOR FAILURE WAS FAILED TORQUE CONVERTER. TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT DUE TO OVERHEATING. TRANSMISSION COOLER WAS FULL OF TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH MATERIAL. I HAVE FOUND 113 INCIDENTS OF DANGEROUS TORQUE CONVERTER FAILURE RELATED COMPLAINTS IN THIS NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHSTA) DATABASE FROM 1994 THROUGH 2005. MY COIL SPRING BROKE, COULD HAVE WENT INTO MY TIRE. ONLY HAVE 95000, MILES SAY THERE'S NO WARRANTY BECAUSE ITS OVER THE YEARS, IT SHOULD BE MILES NOT YEARS. *TR

THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND STARTED TO GO WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND HALF WAY THROUGH THE LIGHT THE TRAINS SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AND WOULDN'T ENGAGE UNTIL THE RPM WENT DOWN. THIS IS ONLY ONE OF MANY TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED AND AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. I HOPE FORD DOES THE RIGHT THING AND RECALLS THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS KILLED AND A RECALL WOULD BE NOTHING COMPARED TO A DEATH AND A LAWSUIT. *TR

AFTER SOME TIME, THE FRONT PASSENGER, REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELTS ALSO WOULD NOT RETRACT. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO UNLOCK THE DOOR LOCKS WITH THE KEY FOB THE DOORS WOULD NOT UNLOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. DRIVING AT 65MPH WITH THE CRUISE ON. THE RPM'S GOES TO 6000 WITH NO WARNING AND NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH. I TURN THE CRUISE OFF AND THE RPM'S DROP. I NOW START TO ACCELERATE AND THE RPM'S JUST GO UP AND THE CAR DOESN'T MOVE FORWARD. I JUST GET THE CAR OFF THE ROADWAY BEFORE I AM REARENDED THANK GOD. ONCE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROADWAY I TRY ALL GEARS WITH NOTHING BUT HIGH RPM'S. I SIT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY FOR 1 HOUR WITH 18 WHEELERS GOING BY JUST INCHES FROM ME UNTIL A TOW TRUCK ARRIVES. I DID A SEARCH ON GOOGLE ABOUT THIS VEHICLE AND THERE ARE MANY LET ME REPEAT MANY FOLKS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 47,000 MILES AND IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED. *TR
THE CAR BURST INTO FLAMES 30 MINUTES AFTER IT WAS PARKED. NO ONE WAS IN THE CAR. THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING. THE FIRE WAS UNDER THE HOOD. WHEN THE FIRE WAS SEEN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED. THEY ARRIVED SHORTLY AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. EVERYTHING UNDER THE HOOD, AND UP INTO THE DASH WAS BURNED AND MELTED. THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A DOREL SAFETY 1ST, ALPHA OMEGA ELITE CHILD SEAT. MANUFACTURED ON 3/2/2011. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHILD RESTRAINT LOCK, WHICH FASTENS TO THE LATCH UNLOCKED ON ITS OWN DUE TO THE WEBBING TEARING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED.
CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF DRIVER-SIDE FRONT SPRING DURING A TURN ON RESIDENTIAL STREETS, CAUSING TEMPORARY LOSS OF CONTROL AND NEAR COLLISION. EJECTION OF BROKEN PORTION OF SPRING CAUSED NO INJURIES NOR DAMAGE TO TIRE OF VEHICLE IN QUESTION; HOWEVER, OTHER VEHICLES PASSED OVER RESULTING DEBRIS AND DROVE ON, POSSIBLY SUFFERING TIRE DAMAGE THAT WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY APPARENT. EVIDENTLY, FORD HAS ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM WITH THESE FRONT COIL SPRINGS, ISSUING A RECALL, BUT HAS FAILED TO EXTEND IT TO COVER ALL FAILURES. THE INCIDENT DESCRIBED HEREIN DEMONSTRATES THAT THE CONDITION IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE.

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V332000 (COMPONENT: SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS). IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REMEDY ACTED ONLY AS A BAND AID SINCE THE MANUFACTURE DECIDED TO ADD SHIELDS TO PROTECT THE TIRES FROM BEING PUNCTURED INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE COIL SPRING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 124,245.
I CONTACTED FORD IN 2011 BECAUSE MY CAR CAUGHT FIRE WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT AND EXPLODED. THEY WROTE ME A LETTER ASKING FOR RECEIPTS FOR OIL CHANGES AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. I HAD BOUGHT IT USED FROM REYNOLDS FORD IT HAD 1 OWNER. I DID HAVE IT FIXED BY PEOPLE NOT AT FORD AND OIL CHANGES NOT AT FORD . I BOUGTH A NEW CAR BUT THE FIRE WAS SCARY AND MY LIABILTY DOES NOT PAY FOR IT. I RECENTLY SAW ANOTHER CAR ON FACEBOOK IT LOOKED LIKE MY CAR IA SKED WHAT KIND OF CAR IS THAT THEY SAID A 2000 FORD TAURUS. I BLEIVE THAT THIS SHOULD OF BEEN RECALLED WHEN I TOLD THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO ME. I WAS LUCKY I JUMPED OUT RIGHT AWAY OR I WOULD HAVE BURNED AND THANK GOD I HAD NO CHILDREN WITH ME. I AM HAVING ISSUES EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V106000. I HAVE A 2000 FORD TAURUS WHERE THE THE STOMP LAMP MALFUNCTIONS WHEN USING THE BRAKES. WHEN I CALLED FUTURE FORD OF ROSEVILLE, CA IN THE AUTOMALL THEY LOOKED UP MY VIN # AND INFORMED ME THAT THIS RECALL IS NOT IN THEIR LIST FOR MY VEHICLE. BUT THAT THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE HAD THE STOP LAMP REPLACED ALREADY IN YEAR 2000 FOR THE SAME SYMPTOMS. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS IS A SAFETY RECALL OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL AS MY CAR WITH THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS AS FOUND IN THE NHTSA RECALL ARTICLE. THERE WAS NOT MUCH INTEREST IN MY PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. TO ME THIS APPEARS THAT THIS SHOULD APPLY TO MY CAR ALSO. TOO MUCH OF A COINCIDENCE TO HAVE THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL WITH THE SAME ISSUES AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL AND HAVING THE PART ALREADY REPLACE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD.
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN I HEARD A LARGE CLUNK IN THE BACK OF MY CAR. I ASSUMED THAT IT WAS JUST ME HITTING A BRANCH. THE SOUND CONTINUED, BUT I WASN'T THAT FAR FROM WORK SO I KEPT DRIVING. MY CAR STARTED TO SHAKE SEVERELY AND I HAD TO FIGHT TO KEEP THE STEERING STRAIGHT, SO I IMMEDIATELY WENT AND PULLED OVER AT A GAS STATION WHERE I DISCOVERED A SEVERE FLAT. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE CAR REPAIR SHOP, WHERE I WORK, TO HAVE THE TIRE REPLACED. THEY SHOWED ME THAT THE REAR COIL SPRING HAD PUNCTURED AND DUG A GOUGE ALONG A THIRD OF THE TIRE. IT WAS VERY SCARY TO SEE HOW BADLY THE TIRE WAS DAMAGED. I LOOKED ONLINE AND HAVE SEEN SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND WONDER WHY SOMEONE HASN'T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. *TR

I WAS CRUISING ON THE FREEWAY, AS I APPROACHED MY EXIT I BEGAN HITTING THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THE CAR WAS HARDLY SLOWING DOWN. I CONTINUED TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES ATTEMPTING TO GET DOWN TO THE OFF RAMP SPEED LIMIT UNTIL I REALIZED IT WASN'T GOING TO HAPPEN. I WAS RAPIDLY APPROACHING A BUSY INTERSECTION AND BEFORE I COULD EVEN THINK TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL I HAD TO TURN QUICKLY INTO A SNOWBANK TO AVOID AN EVEN WORSE ACCIDENT. WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH MY 13 YEAR OLD SISTER IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, ON THE STREETS,ON CHRISTMAS EVE, GOING ABOUT 40 MPH, I STARTED TO SMELL SOMETHING AS IF PLASTIC WAS BURNING, I TURNED INTO A SHOPPING CENTER NEARBY, BUT WITH IT BEING CHRISTMAS EVE, IT WAS SO MANY CARS INSIDE THE SMALL STRUCTURED SHOPPING CENTER THAT WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO SMOKE, I WAS UNCERTAIN IF IT WAS MY CAR SMOKING OR SOMEONE NEXT TO ME. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE TO THE NEXT OPEN PARKING SPACE, THIS GUY QUICKLY RAN UP TO MY CAR AND TOLD ME TO AND MY SISTER TO GET OUT BECAUSE AS I WAS DRIVING HE SAW FIRE BALLS COMING FROM THE UNDER MY CAR. AT THIS POINT IT WAS CLEAR THAT IT WAS MY CAR SMOKING VERY BADLY, I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS QUICKLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES WITH IN SECONDS. WE QUICKLY JUMPED OUT LEAVING THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION. WE CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THEY WERE ABLE TO PUT OUT THE FIRE BUT DIDN'T DETERMINE A CONCRETE CAUSE BESIDES AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. WHILE I WAS DRIVING NO KIND OF WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE THERMOSTAT DID NOT READ "OVERHEAT" OR ANYTHING. I HAD LIABILITY ON MY CAR. IT WAS A 2000 FORD TAURUS, BUT THE INSURANCE COMPANY WOULDN'T PAY FOR ANYTHING. IF IT WASN'T FOR THAT GUY THAT RAN UP TO MY CAR AND TOLD ME AND MY SISTER TO GET OUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE BECAUSE WE DIDN'T SEE ANY FLAMES UNTIL I CUT THE CAR OFF. *LN

IN ADDITION, FORD REPLACED BROKEN SPRINGS, ALTHOUGH I BELIEVE THIS WAS A CUSTOMER SERVICE CHOICE BY FORD, RATHER THAN A CONDITION OF THE RECALL. I REPORTED THE ISSUE TO FORD, BUT THOUGHT NHTSA SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AS WELL. WE LIVE IN THE GREATER CHICAGO AREA. *TR

I WAS ATTENDING MORNING MASS AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE. IF NOT FOR THE SWIFT ACTION OF THE SECRETARY WHO CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE FIRE WOULD HAVE SPREAD FROM THE HOOD TO THE GAS TANK AND IT WOULD HAVE EXPLODED. MY CAR WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS AND I WAS GRATEFUL THAT I WAS NOT IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE. I HAVE ELDERLY PARENTS WHO ARE WITH ME ALL THE TIME AND SOME TIMES THEY STAY IN THE CAR WHILE I RUN IN TO GET THEM SOMETHING FROM THE STORE. MY CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED AND ONLY HAD 90,000 MILES ON IT. MY ALLSTATE INSURANCE DID PAY ME FOR THE VALUE OF THE CAR, HOWEVER, I NOW HAD TO BUY A NEW CAR AND I HAVE ACQUIRED A MONTHLY PAYMENT OF $300 FOR FIVE YEARS, WHEN I HAD NO CAR PAYMENT ON MY FORD. I WANT TO FIND OUT WHY THIS FIRE STARTED. THE FIRE REPORT SAID IT WAS ELECTRICAL OR WIRE. BUT, THEY USE THAT AS A DEFAULT REASON ON CAR FIRES. WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS??
