THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION AT MODERATE SPEEDS (40-45 MPH). THE ACCELLERATION OCCURS WHILE COASTING (NO BRAKE OR GAS PEDAL ENGAGED). THE ACCELERATION IS SEVERE ENOUGH THAT I HAVE TO BRAKE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN.
VEHICAL IDLES TOO HIGH,CRUSES AT 40 MPH. WITH FOOT OFF THE GAS,NO HOLD BACK ON HILLS CAR NEEDS CONTINOUS BRAKING TO REDUCE SPEED OF ENGINE .I FEEL THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS ON WET ,ICEY ROAD CONDITIONS AND WILL CAUSE EARLY BRAKE PAD WEAR. WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED IN DRIVE ON LEVEL ROAD CAR WILL MOVE FOWARD WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. *AK
A EXTREMELY STRONG FUEL ODOR INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE, CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER CANNOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. *AK THE ODOR HAS BECOME WORSE. CUSTOMER UNDERTAKING LEMON LOW ON THE VEHICLE. *YH
A NOISE OCCURRED WITHIN REAR BRAKES WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED, AND WHEN THE VEHCILE WAS IN REVERSE, CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE STALLED, DRIVER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY, AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE VEHICLE STARTED AGAIN. *CJ

BRAKE PEDAL AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL ARE THE SAME HEIGHT, AND ARE SET CLOSE TOGETHER, CAUSING MISAPPLICATION OF PEDAL BECAUSE OF POWER ADJUSTABLE FOOT PEDALS. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
ENGINE MAKES RATTLING NOISES AND ENGINE LIGHT HAS CAME ON TWICE WITHIN TWO MONTHS, VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING STALLING WITH NO WARNING, DEALER CAN NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *SLC

WITHIN DAYS OF PURCHASING VEHICLE THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHILE DRIVING AND STAY ON UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 6 OCCASIONS AND SEVERAL COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. NLM
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS VEHICLE PULLS TO LEFT, CAUSE UNKNOWN. *AK THE CUSTOMER HAD BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 6 TIMES FOR THE VEHICLE VEERING TO THE LEFT. *YH
WHILE TRYING TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK GEARS WOULD LOCK UP. PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP. MECHANIC GAVE NO INDICATION OF HOW PROBLEM COULD BE CORRECTED. INFORMED OWNER'S MANUAL WOULD GIVE A SUGGESTION ON HOW TO CORRECT LOCKING UP OF GEARS.*AK
MY FATHER TOOK HIS TAURUS TO THE DEALER FOR BRAKES. WHILE THERE THEY REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. WHEN THEY DID THIS THEY PUT THE WRONG CODE IN CAUSING THE VEHICLE NOT TO START. WHEN HE CALLED THEM TO FIND OUT WHY THEY HAD REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER HE WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RISK OF FIRE AND EXPLOSION. HIS COMPLAINT IS 1) IF THERE IS SUCH A HIGH RISK OF FIRE AND EXPLOSION WITH THE 2000 TAURUS WHY HASN'T A RECALL BEEN ISSUED, AND 2) IF THE RISK IS LOW, WHY ARE THEY MAKING THIS REPAIR WITHOUT THE OWNERS KNOWLEDGE OR CONSCENT. BRAKES ARE ACTING ERRACTICALLY ,BRAKES WILL GO TO FLOOR, AND SOMETIMES HARDEN UP. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE CAUSE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
CONSUMER REMOVED HEAD RESTS, SINCE CONSUMER IS ONLY 5 FEET TALL, SHE COULD NOT SEE OUT THE REAR WINDOW DUE TO THE HEAD RESTS BEING TOO HIGH, DEALER STATED THERE ARE NO SMALLER HEAD RESTRAINTS THAT CAN FIT INTO HOLES THAT HOLD THE HEAD RESTS. *SLC

WHILE DRIVING OVER UNEVEN PAVMENT RIGHT FRONT TIRE HIT A BUMP, AND DRIVER'S SIDE SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. DELAER HAS BEEN CONTACTED.*AK
BRAKE PEDAL WAS ON SOFT SIDE. WOULD ONLY GO 3/4 BEFORE BRAKES CATCH. VEHICLE FELT AS IF IT WAS COASTING WHENEVER BRAKES WERE APPLIED. TOOK TO DEALER, AND A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS DONE. NOTHING WAS FOUND.*AK
WHEEL LUG NUTS CAME LOOSE. TWO HAD COME COMPLETELY OFF. MISSING NUTS REPLACED. ALL NUTS TIGHTENED BUT KEPT COMING LOOSE THROUGHOUT TRIP.*AK
STEERING WHEEL IS STARTING TO CRACK IN CENTER, OVER AIRBAGS. CONSUMER STATED THAT HE HAS HAD THREE STEERING WHEELS REPLACED FOR THIS PROBLEM. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK CONSUMER STATES DEALER INFORMED HIM NOT TO USE THE HORN. *SLC
THE DRIVER HAS DIFFICULTY SEEING OVER THE HEAD REST ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE LANES, THE CONSUMER IS 5'2" AND USES A CAR SEAT WHICH RAISES HER 2 INCHES, SHE BELIEVES THE CONFIGURATIN OF THE VEHICLE INTERFERS WITH VIEWS AT DIFFERENT SEEING LEVELS. NLM
WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSE UNKNOWN. NO INJURIES OR COLLISION OCCURRED. DEALER CANNOT IDENTIFY CAUSE. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK

TRANSMISSION WOULD FAIL TO ENGAGE IN GEAR PROPERLY. HAVE TAKE TO DEALERSHIP 6 TIMES. HAD IT TEST DRIVEN, AND TRANSMISSION REPLACED TWICE. PROBLEM HAS REAPPEARED. CURRENTLY, TRANSMISSION IS BEING REPLACED FOR THIRD TIME. MECHANIC GAVE NO INDICATION OF CAUSE OF PROBLEM.*AK
OUR TAURUS AND FIVE OTHERS I HAVE DRIVEN CONTINUE TO SUPPLY EXCESS FUEL WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS RELEASED. THIS CAUSES THE BRAKES TO BE NECESSARY IN ORDINARY TRAFFIC AND TO DECELERATE AT CURVES AND HILLS (THERE IS NO "HILL HOLDING" EFFECT ). TO CHECK THIS, SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AT ABOUT 60 MPH AND YOU WILL SEE THE TACH GO UP FROM 2000 TO ALMOST 3000RPM, WHEN IT SHOULD BE DROPPING TO THE IDLE SPEED OF ABOUT 750RPM. MY DEALER IS AT A LOSS TO EXPLAIN OR FIX THIS, AND I HAVENT FOUND ANY OTHER MAKE AND MODEL THAT DOES THIS. EVEN THE WINDSTAR, WHICH IS PRETTY SIMILAR IN ENGINE, DROPS TO IDLE SPEED. *AK
STEEL BELT SEPARATION CAUSING THUMPING, AND EXTENSIVE TIRE WEAR TO THE INNER RUBBER LAYER. *AK (TIRESIZE: 215/60R16)
ON JULY 29,2001, WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH ON A COUNTRY ROAD, THE CAR DIED. THE DASH LIGHT JUST CAME ON AND THE JUST QUIT RUNNING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. NO INDICATION CAME FROM THE CAR OTHER THAN JUST STOPPED RUNNING. IT DIDN'T HESITATE,BULK, OR ANYTHING, JUST DIED. IF THIS WAS ON AN INNERSTATE FREEWAY, IT COULD OF BEEN DISASTROUS.*AKY
WHILE TRAVELING AT NORMAL SPEED AND WITHOUT ANY INDICATION VEHICLE STALLED. AFTER SITTING FOR ONE HOUR, VEHICLE RESTARTED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIES BRAKES, HIS FOOT DEPRESSES THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ALSO CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE SLOWLY. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE BRAKE PEDAL ARE LOCATED CLOSE TO EACH OTHER AND ARE DANGEROUS. *YH
THE MIRRORS CAUSE A BLIND SPOT, IT IS HARD TO SEE PEDESTRIANS WHO MAY WALK IN FRONT OF THE CAR.
THE CAR WILL NOT DECELERATE WHEN THE DRIVERS FOOT IS TAKEN OFF THE GAS, THE VEHICLE WILL TRAVEL 30-40 MPH WITHOUT THE PEDAL BEING PRESSED, THE DEALER HAS MADE ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM TO NO AVAIL. NLM
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT HEADLIGHTS BECOME EXTREMELY DIM, CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER CANNOT IDENTIFY CAUS EOF PROBLEM. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED VEHICLE WOULD STALL, AND INDICATOR LIGHT WOULD FLASH ON SOON AFTER LOSS OF STEERING . DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
THERE WERE TWO INCIDENTS WHERE WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED (10MPH) ABS LIGHT TURNED ON AND ENGINE MADE VERY STRONG NOISE. AFTER STOPPING AND MOVING TO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE MADE EVEN A LOUDER SQUEAKING NOISE. AFTER TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING THE CAR ALL WENT BACK TO NORMAL. THIS HAPPENED TWICE OVER THE LAST MONTH AND CONCERNS ME ABOUT WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I WERE DRIVING IN ON HIGHWAY AT A HIGHER SPEED. THE DEALER TRIED TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM, BUT DID NOT IDENTIFY IT AND DOES NOT KNOW THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
THERE IS A MALFUNCTION WITHIN ABS SYSTEM. WHILE APPLYING BRAKES THERE IS NO STOPPING POINT, VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE TO SKID A COUPLE OF FEET FURTHER.*AK
DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DISINTEGRATING, FLUID WAS BLACK AND A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS NEEDED. *JG
VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A FEATURE THAT ADJUSTS BRAKE PEDAL. WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, DRIVER CAN MISTAKENLY PRESS ACCELERATOR DUE TO DESIGN. *AK EACH TIME THE VEHICLE HAS FAILED TO BRAKE, THE MOTOR ROARS AND THE CAR JUMPS FORWARD. *JG
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL NOTIFICATION(01V078000)AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN TO HAVE THE REPAIRS MADE, HOWEVER WITHIN THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS CONSUMER NOTICED THE GEAR SHIFT WAS GIVING HIM TROUBLE COMING OUT OF PARK, CONSUMER THEN DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT COMING ON, BUT WHEN THEY DID COME ON THE GEAR SHIFT WOULD GO INTO GEAR, CONSUMER THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND INFORMED THEM OF THE PROBLEM THAT HE WAS EXPERIENCING, SINCE IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN FOR BACK IN JULY, THE DEALER STATED THE ONLY WAY THE PROCEDURE WOULD BE PERFORMED AGAIN IS IF IT HAPPENED WITHIN 12 MONTHS OR 12,000 MILES, HOWEVER CONSUMER HAD WENT 185 MILES OVER THE WARRANTY, THERFORE CONSUMER WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CHARGES.*JB
BRAKE LIGHTS WERE INOPERABLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND DEALER INDICATED ADJUSTABLE PEDAL AND BRAKE ASSEMBLY HAD GOTTEN CONTAMINATED. HAD REPAIRED, BUT PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AK
AFTER USING SEAT BELTS THEY FAILED TO RELEASE PROPERLY. CURRENTLY, SEAT BELTS ARE NOT LATCHING AT ALL. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND WAS INFORMED THAT BUCKLE MECHANISM HAD BROKEN.*AK
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. HAD TO REPLACE WIRING AND MODULE AND AIRBAG CONTROL.*AK
BRAKE AND THROTTLE PEDALS TOO CLOSE TOGETHER SOMETIMES ACCELERATE WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE. POOR DESIGN.*AK
VEHICLE WILL NOT DECELERATE, EXCEEDING 30 TO 40 MILES WITHOUT PRESSING GAS PEDAL. RPMS AT APPROXIMATELY 1400. THERE IS ALSO GAS FUMES WHEN VEHICLE IS AT IDLE. DEALER COULD NOT FIX. *TT
THOUGHT CAR WAS ACCELERATING ITSELF. DEALER CHECKED, "NOTHING WRONG". STILL HAPPENS, EVEN THOUGH I AM MORE CAREFUL. I READ SOMEWHERE THAT THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION GOING ON REGARDING THIS MATTER. I REALLY THINK THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS PEDALS, AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT IT. AT LEAST AN INVESTIGATION WILL BRING THE WHOLE THING UNDER PROPER SCRUTINY. THANK YOU.*AK
