REAR COIL SPRING BROKE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY CAR. THIS PUNCTURED A TIRE WHICH QUICKLY DEFLATED WHEN I WAS ON A HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT A FAST SPEED. I HAD TO PAY $900 TO REPLACE THE STRUTS BECAUSE NO MECHANICS AROUND HERE CAN JUST REPLACE THE SPRING. *TR
REAR SPRINGS BOTH BROKE. CAR HAS RECALL FOR FRONT SPRINGS BUT NOT REARS. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON THIS MANY OF THESE MODELS HAVE BROKEN SPRINGS. *TR
ON 7-29-08 I WAS COMING OFF THE FREEWAY AND WAS TOLD I HAD A FLAT TIRE. I PULLED INTO NATIONAL TIRE AND BATTERY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME THAT 3 SPRINGS WERE BROKEN AND THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE SPRING TORE THROUGH MY TIRE DEFLATING IT. I'M LUCKY I WASN'T KILLED DOING 60 ON THE FREEWAY. I CALLED FORD AND THEY WON'T PAY FOR IT. THAT'S A DEFECT THAT FORD SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. WHILE INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WAS FLAT. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION, HE NOTICED THAT THE COIL SPRING HAD FRACTURED AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V332000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS). THE TECHNICIAN ADDED THAT THEY WOULD ONLY REPLACE THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS BECAUSE HE HAS NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE WITH THE REAR COIL SPRINGS AND THAT COMPONENT WAS NOT REFERENCED IN THE REMEDY OF THE RECALL. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 94,000. UPDATED 10-29-08 *BF THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS WERE REPLACED AT NO CHARGE. REAR SPRING BROKE ON 2000 FORD TAURUS, APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM ON FRONT AND REAR SPRINGS. FORD RECALLED FRONT BUT WHY NOT REAR? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY, WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO INJURE HER FACE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. SHE DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES PRIOR TO THE CRASH. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 95,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE VEHICLE HAD COOPER LIFELINER TOURING SLE T-RATED TIRES, SIZE 215/60/R16, THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH THE VEHICLE STARTED PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER OR FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WAS DAMAGED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,005.
LOUD "CLUNKING EXPLOSION" SOUND FROM REAR AND CAR HANDLING WAS AFFECTED. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND FOUND I HAD 3 BROKEN COIL SPRINGS-- 2 OF WHICH HAD BEEN BROKEN FOR A LONG TIME. ONE ON THE FRONT, WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER RECALL AND BOTH BACK SPRINGS. FRONT SPRING WAS COVERED IN RECALL, BUT FROM WHAT I'VE FOUND ONLINE JUST AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR SPRINGS. CHARGED OVER $600 IN REPAIR TO GET 2 NEW REAR SPRINGS INSTALLED, BUT STILL HAVE RATTLING PROBLEMS AFTERWARDS. CAR IS DRIVEN EXTREMELY LIGHTLY AND THE FINAL BREAKAGE HAPPENED WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AT APX 5MPH. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IMMEDIATELY, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED EXCESSIVELY AND PERFORMED ABNORMALLY. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE EXPLODED WITHOUT WARNING. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE REAR SUSPENSION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND ALL FOUR TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 23,500.
I HAVE A 2000 FORD TAURUS AND OF COURSE BOTH OF MY FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKE. THANK HEAVEN NO ACCIDENTS. HAD THEM REPLACED AT A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP ON 07/15/2008 WAS INFORMED AS WELL THAT ONE REAR SPRING WAS BROKEN. NOT COVERED UNDER 04M04B THEY ARE THE SAME SPRINGS AS THE FRONT!!!!! NOW I HAVE TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT A WAY TO GET MY CAR FIXED WITH NO CASH NOT GOING TO BE EASY. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS WITH FORD!!! *TR
BROUGHT 2000 FORD TAURUS IN TO REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE TIRES REPLACED. REC'D PHONE CALL THAT BOTH REAR STRUT SPRINGS WERE BROKEN AND THEY WOULD NOT PUT TIRES ON BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE OF SPRINGS POKING INTO TIRES & CAUSING ACCIDENT. SO STRUTS NEED TO BE FIXED FIRST TO THE TUNE OF $1000, WHICH I DON'T HAVE. APPARENTLY, THIS IS COMMON IN TAURUSES, AND FORD SHOULD BE OFFERING TO PAY SOME OR ALL OF THE REPAIRS. *TR
ON THE MORNING OF JUNE 23RD, 2008. I PROCEEDED TO GET INTO MY AUTOMOBILE, I STARTED THE ENGINE, PUT MY THINGS AWAY WHILE MY ENGINE WARMED UP AND APPROXIMATELY WHILE BACKING UP 1 FT TO LEAVE; MY FRONT RIGHT COIL SPRING BROKE INTO PIECES AND BLEW MY TIRE OUT. I AM LUCKY THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN ON A HIGHWAY. *TR
REAR SPRINGS BROKEN ON VEHICLE. SAT DOWN IN VEHICLE AND REAR SPRING BUSTED IN MY DRIVEWAY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT WALKED TO THE BACK OF HIS HOME WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS LOCATED AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. HE WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE, BUT NO ONE WAS INJURED DURING THE INCIDENT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED, EXAMINED THE VEHICLE, AND STATED THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE DASHBOARD. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES IN THE VEHICLE BEFOREHAND AND HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 100,000.
THE DAY OF THE REPAIR THE CAR SEEMED A BIT TILTED AND MADE A FUNNY NOISE. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WAS TOLD BOTH REAR COILS WERE BROKEN. BOTH FRONT COILS HAD BEEN REPLACED LESS THAN A YEAR AGO AND ALSO RESULTED IN A RUPTURED TIRE. CURRENT COSTS ESTIMATED AROUND 600 DOLLARS. THIS IS NOT COVERED BY THE FRONT COIL RECALL, BUT INVOLVES THE SAME FAULTY PART. *TR
BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKE AND PUT DEEP CUTS INTO BOTH REAR TIRES NEW SPRINGS ARE BEING INSTALLED AND NEW TIRES HAD TO BE PURCHASED I STILL HAVE THE OLD TIRE FOR YOUR INSPECTION. *TR
TODAY OUR FORD SERVICE SHOP INFORMED US WE HAVE A BROKEN REAR COIL SPRING. THE COIL MUST BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE STRUT. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN A PORTION OF THE BROKEN SPRING COMING LOOSE AND PUNCTURING THE REAR TIRE. OBVIOUSLY, A TIRE BLOWOUT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IS DANGEROUS. WE HAD THE SPRING REPLACED. DURING THE PROCESS, THE REPAIRMAN INDICATED FORD HAD ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS FOR EXACTLY THIS REASON. THE REPAIR MAN EXPLAINED THAT THE SPRINGS ON BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR OF THE CAR ARE EXACTLY THE SAME. FAILURE OF ANY OF THOSE SPRINGS COULD RESULT IN A BLOWN TIRE. I ASKED HIM WHY FORD HAD NOT THEN RECALLED ALL THE SPRINGS SINCE A) THEY ARE THE SAME PART; B) FAILURE RESULTS IN THE SAME DANGEROUS CONDITION. HE COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY. I WROTE A LETTER FOR FORD ASKING WHY THEY HAD NOT RECALLED ALL SPRINGS, THEY SUGGESTED I CONTACT THE NHTSB. SO, WHY ARE THE REAR SPRINGS NOT RECALLED IF THEY ARE THE SAME PART AND THE END RESULT IF THEY FAIL IS THE SAME???? *TR
2000 FORD TAURUS PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR SPRINGS. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE REAR SPRINGS AND LINKS WERE REPLACED. BRAKE LINE WAS REPAIRED, AND THE RACK AND PINION STEERING WAS REPLACED. *KB ***NAR***
2000 FORD TAURUS SERPENTINE BELT BROKE AND LOST CONTROL THEN WENT OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RAMP AND INTO A DITCH. *NJ THE SERPENTINE BELT HAD OVERHEATED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE BELT WAS REPLACED WITHIN THE LAST YEAR. THE OFFICER NOTICED A PUDDLE OF ANTI-FREEZE ON THE GROUND UNDER THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. THE REAR BUMPER WAS DAMAGED. DRIVER STARTED ENGINE AND SHIFTED TO REVERSE AT WHICH TIME THE LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT. INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE SPRING WAS BROKEN AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT SPRING WAS ALSO BROKEN BUT HAD NOT YET PUNCTURED THE TIRE. WHILE THESE TIRES HAD ONLY BEEN DRIVEN 10 MILES PER DAY FOR 12 MONTHS THEY HAD NO TREAD ON THE INSIDE WHILE THE REST OF THE TIRES HAD LITTLE WEAR. BOTH SPRINGS APPEAR TO HAVE BROKEN IN THE SAME SPOT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE COIL FAILED. HE WILL TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR COIL SPRING FAILED AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HE DROVE TO A SERVICE STATION AND HAD THE TIRE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS ON THE VEHICLE. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,223 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,221.
I HAVE A 2000 FORD TAURUS, APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS AGO THE FRONT SPRING BROKE AND WENT THROUGH THE TIRE, THANK GOD IT HAPPENED IN THE DRIVE WAY NOT THE HIGHWAY. IT WAS REPLACED UNDER A RECALL. I ASSUMED THEY REPLACED ALL SPRINGS AS IF THERE IS A STRESS RELIEF PROBLEM IT WOULD BE IN ALL SPRINGS. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP THAT REPLACED THE BROKEN SPRING AND TOLD THEM THAT BOTH REAR SPRINGS ARE BROKEN AND IF THEY REPLACED THEM PREVIOUSLY. THEY TOLD ME NO, THE REAR SPRINGS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, HE ALSO STATED THAT HE HAD BEEN INUNDATED WITH CONSUMERS WITH THE REAR SPRINGS BROKEN BUT FORD REFUSES TO FIX THEM. HE STATED I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THEM MYSELF AT APPROXIMATELY $400. THE VEHICLE IS NEARLY UNDRIVEABLE AND A SAFETY HAZARD TO THE DRIVER AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD THE WAY IT IS. HOW CAN FORD, KNOWING THE SPRINGS ARE BAD (RECALL ON FRONT SPRINGS) AND IT BEING A SAFETY HAZARD AND REFUSE TO REPAIR THE BROKEN SPRINGS. FORD CONSUMER HOTLINE TOLD ME, ONLY THE FRONT IS COVERED AND WOULD NOT TELL ME WHY THE REAR ARE NOT. IT IS DANGEROUS, HOWEVER I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE IT THIS WAY SINCE I DO NOT HAVE $400 +/- TO GET THEM FIXED. NO WONDER THEY ARE DOWN 28% IN SALES. *TR
TRANSMISSION (AUTOMATIC) 2000 FORD TAURUS, PLACED IN REVERSE AFTER REPAIR FOR FRACTURED COIL SPRINGS (WARRANTED) WERE REPLACED ,THE VEHICLE SHUTTERED WHILE SLIGHTLY BRAKING NOW FORD DEALER HANDING ME A BILL FOR OVER $2,000.00 , VEHICLE RAN AND DROVE GREAT BEFORE THIS REPAIR (OF COURSE THEY SAID IT WAS COMPLETELY SEPARATE) PLEASE HELP I'VE READ OTHER REPORTS OF INCIDENTS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING 30MPH ON A FRIDAY WHEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. I MADE A SERVICE CALL TO COME AND CHANGE MY TIRE TO THE SPARE. ONCE I WAS AT THE REPAIR SHOP TO GET A NEW TIRE, THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO CAUSE THE BLOW OUT. THE REAR SPRING COIL HAD BUSTED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND LACERATED THE TIRE. MY CAR WAS DEEMED UNSAFE AND I WAS WITHOUT IT FOR A FULL WEEKEND BECAUSE THE REPAIRS COULDN'T BE MADE UNTIL MONDAY. NOT ONLY DID I HAVE TO REPLACE THE REAR SPRING COILS, BUT ALSO THE STRUTS, SWAY LINK BAR, AND A NEW TIRE FOR A GRAND TOTAL OF $986. I ALSO HAD THE FRONT SPRING COILS REPLACED (BECAUSE ONE WAS CRACKED) 13 MONTHS EARLIER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END CRASH WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. HER VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 89,000.
AROUND 2005, MY FRONT LEFT SPRING BROKE WHILE PUTTING MY 2000 FORD TAURUS INTO DRIVE AND NEARLY POPPED MY TIRE. ABOUT ONE YEAR LATER, I RECEIVED A RECALL REGARDING THE FRONT SPRING SHIELDS, AND HAD THAT DONE. NOW, AS OF THE CURRENT DATE IN 2008, I RECEIVED WORD FROM MY MECHANIC THAT MY REPLACED FRONT LEFT SPRING IS BROKEN AGAIN, ALTHOUGH NOT YET PROTRUDING INTO MY TIRE, AND THAT I SHOULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE. FORD SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO OFFER THESE INFERIOR SPRINGS AND NOT COVER THEM AS A RECALL, BUT INSTEAD TRY TO BLAME THE PROBLEM ON AN INEXPENSIVE "SPRING SHIELD." *TR
INSPECTION OF VEHICLE AFTER SUFFERING A FRONT FLAT TIRE REVEALED THE LEFT REAR SPRING BROKEN. BROKEN SPRING ALMOST CONTACTS THE TIRE. VEHICLE IS BEING SERVICED THIS WEEKEND TO REPLACE PARTS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION DROPPED ON HIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS WERE CORRODED AND OVERLAPPING ONE ANOTHER. IN MARCH OF 2008, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A FORD RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V332000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS). THE CONTACT URGED THE MANUFACTURER TO REPLACE THE REAR SUSPENSION AS WELL; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT NHTSA ONLY ORDERED THE FRONT SUSPENSION TO BE RECALLED. THE DEALER WILL ONLY REPLACE THE FRONT SUSPENSION ACCORDING TO THE RECALL. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
WATER LEAKED ONTO THE FLOOR BOARDS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I HAVE REPLACED THE BLOWER RESISTOR THREE TIMES, ONCE FOLLOWING THE INSTALLATION OF THE NEW COWL AND RAIN HAT. *TR
RIGHT FRONT AND RIGHT REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKE. THE FRONT APPEARS TO HAVE BROKEN IN THE DRIVEWAY, PUNCTURING THE TIRE. WHEN THE REAR BROKE IS UNKNOWN. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO LOCAL FORD DEALER. THEY REPLACED THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS UNDER RECALL, BUT CHARGED ME FOR NEW TIRE AND REAR SPRINGS. *TR
REAR COIL SPRINGS FAILURE 2000 FORD TAURUS. FORD ONLY ADMITS A PROBLEM WITH FRONT SPRINGS. *TR
REAR COIL SPRINGS ON 2000 TAURUS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL OF THE FRONT SPRINGS. MINE WERE REPLACED ON 3/26/08 FROM FORD. BUT HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR REPAIR. *TR

2000 FORD TAURUS MAKING RUBBING SOUNDS. FOUND BOTH REAR SPRINGS BROKEN. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD HAD THEY PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THANKFULLY THIS DID NOT HAPPEN. BOTH REAR SPRINGS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS CAR WAS NOT ABUSED AND OR EVEN DRIVEN HARD. *TR
2000 FORD TAURUS WITH 58, 500 MILES. VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN MY GARAGE, ENGINE OFF. UPON SLIDING INTO THE DRIVERS SEAT, I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THE ENTIRE CAR SHOOK. NOTHING EXTERNAL EVIDENT ON INSPECTION. TOOK TO DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT BOTH FRONT SPRINGS AND ONE REAR SPRING WERE BROKEN. DEALER REPLACED BOTH FRONT SPRINGS AS PART OF A SAFETY RECALL, AND BOTH REAR SPRINGS FOR WHICH I WAS CHARGED $481. IT WAS JUST MY GOOD LUCK THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED IN MY GARAGE AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, WHERE THE SPRING COULD HAVE RUPTURED A TIRE. *TR
FORD TAURUS WATER LEAK ON PASSENGER SIDE OF CABIN. OVER AN INCH OF WATER ON FLOOR. APPEARED AFTER CABIN FILTER WAS REPLACED. DEALER REPLACED RT. SIDE COWL AND WEATHER STRIPPING. STILL HAD LEAK. APPARENTLY THEY CRACKED OR DID NOT PROPERLY REINSTALL THE CABIN FILTER COVER. HAD SOME WORK DONE SINCE THEN WITH NEW CABIN FILTER, HAD HEAVY RAIN AND WATER DAMAGE AGAIN. THIS TIME, BLOWER MOTOR AND BLOWER RESISTOR RUINED. SMELLED ELECTRICAL BURNING. VERY DANGEROUS, I WOULD IMAGINE, NOT TO MENTION, TRYING TO DRIVE WITH FOGGED UP WINDOWS. THEY WANT ME TO PAY OVER $450 TO REPAIR. I HAVE REFUSED. INCIDENTS WERE IN 12/04 AND NOW. HAVE READ PLENTY OF INFO. REGARDING FORD'S FAULTY DESIGN OF TAURUS' (MINE) SABLES AND OTHER MODELS. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE SINCE. THE MAIN ISSUE IS THAT IT HAS HAD THE POTENTIAL TO KILL ME,MY FAMILY AND PASSERS BY ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS . TO START WITH WE REPLACED ALL OF THE PULLEYS ON THE VEHICLE LAST WINTER, DUE TO A CONSTANT SQUEALING NOISE THAT REPLACING THE BELT DID NOT FIX. THIS COST A SMALL FORTUNE AS WE BROKE SEVERAL TOOLS (AND 4 TENSIONER PULLEY'S) AS DID 3 MECHANICS TRYING TO GET THE PULLEYS BACK ON. FORD WAS ABSOLUTELY NO HELP, THEY WANTED TO CHARGE 300 OR MORE DOLLARS TO ATTEMPT THE JOB, THEIR QUOTE WAS SOMETHING LIKE "THOSE THINGS ARE A PAIN IN THE A@# AND WE NEVER KNOW WHAT WE'RE LOOKING AT WITH LABOR WHEN WE GET ONE IN!" AFTER NEARLY 2 WEEKS WE COMPLETED THE WORK AND MANY DOLLARS LATER ONLY TO LATER DISCOVER THAT WHEN WE DRIVE IT IN THE RAIN THE BELT COMES OFF! AS YOU CAN IMAGINE THIS IS NOT EXACTLY FUN WHEN ON A COUNTRY ROAD IN THE RAIN WITH YOUR CHILD AT 55 MPH AND YOU SUDDENLY HAVE NO CONTROL OF YOUR CAR. AS WAS THE CASE WITH ME THE FIRST TIME BY THE TIME I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY 2 MILES LATER I HAD SOMETHING PLASTIC SMOKING ON THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE AND SEVERE OVERHEATING ISSUES!!! THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE, ONCE LEAVING ME STRANDED AT WAL-MART,ONCE IN A FRIENDS DRIVEWAY AND MOST RECENTLY AFTER 2 DAYS OF RAIN I DECIDED TO TAKE MY KIDS TO THE END OF THE RAOD TO THE BUS STOP(THIS IS ONLY RE: 80 FEET OR SO AWAY) AND I HADN'T BEEN ANYWHERE AND HIT NO PUDDLES OUT OF FEAR, AND YET STILL LOST THE BELT COMING BACK TO MY DRIVEWAY. MY CHILD HAD A SEIZURE AT SCHOOL A WEEK AND A HALF AGO, 20 MILES FROM ME AND I HAD TO DRIVE IN THE RAINS FROM TROPICAL STORM GUSTAV TO A FAMILY MEMBERS HOUSE AND GET A RIDE TO THE HOSPITAL TO BE WITH MY CHILD. I AM HAVING TO SAY NO TO WORK(SUBSTITUTE TEACHING) WHEN IT'S RAINING AGAIN IN FEAR OF WRECKING AND OR BEING STUCK SOMEWHERE AND CAN'T SELL IT BECAUSE IT HAS THESE PROBLEMS. REAR COIL SPRINGS ARE BROKEN. APPEARS TO BE FROM CORROSION. FRONT SPRINGS HAVE HAD RECALL DONE TO KEEP BROKEN SPRING FROM GETTING INTO TIRE. SINCE THE FRONT SPRINGS, HAVE BEEN GIVEN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, THE REAR SPRINGS SHOULD BE COVERED TO. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT HIS BRAKE LIGHTS WEREN'T OPERATING NORMALLY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED THE DEALER ALSO OBSERVED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE INOPERABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

WE HAVE TWO FORD TAURUS' AND BOTH HAVE THE SAME DOOR LATCH PROBLEM. BOTH ARE YEAR MODEL 2000. THE ISSUE IS THAT WHEN OUTDOOR TEMPERATURES DROP TO THE LOW 20 DEGREE AREA AND BELOW, THE DOORS WILL NOT LATCH. WE FOUND THIS OUT THE FIRST TIME BY HAVING THE DOOR FLY OPEN WHILE DRIVING. I'VE DONE SOME INTERNET RESEARCH AND IT APPEARS THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR MANY PEOPLE GOING AT LEAST AS FAR BACK AS 1999, AND FORWARD TO AT LEAST THE 2004 MODEL YEAR. I COULD PUT A TON OF LINKS TO SITES WHERE PEOPLE ARE ASKING FOR HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM BUT THEY'RE EASY TO FIND. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT THAT COULD PUT PEOPLE AT RISK OF AN INJURY. IN ORDER TO GET THE DOOR LATCH TO WORK PROPERLY REQUIRES THAT HEAT BE APPLIED AND THEN THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY BAND AID. THE DOOR LATCHES WILL NOT FUNCTION AS SOON AS THEY GET COLD AGAIN. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT THAT WILL EITHER CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR CREATE A SITUATION WHERE AN OCCUPANT IS NOT PROTECTED DURING A CRASH. *TR
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT STOPPED RETRACTING AND WAS NOT USABLE FOR THE PASSENGER (WHO HAPPENED TO BE MY TEENAGER) I HAD TAKEN IT TO BE REPAIRED THREE PREVIOUS TIMES. WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT A DEFECT AND THAT I HAD TO PAY 152 DOLLARS THIS TIME TO HAVE IT REPAIRED SINCE THE CAR IS NOW NOT UNDER WARRANTY BUT WAS UNDER WARRANTY THE FIRST 3 PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

PASSENGER SIDE REAR SPRING FRACTURED, DRIVER SIDE IS CRACKED AND READY TO FRACTURE. NO DAMAGE TO THE TIRE BUT I WOULD IMAGINE THIS IS A DIRECT RESULT OF LIVING IN A REGION WHERE SALTY ROADS ARE NORMAL EVERYDAY LIFE AND THERE IS ONLY A RECALL ON THE FRONT SPRINGS SO I GUESS I AM OUT THE 500.00 IT GOING TO COST TO FIX IT. *TR
REAR DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING BROKE. WHEN BROKE, IT WORE A HOLE INTO THE TIRE. *TR
AFTER GETTING THE CAR OUT OF THE BODY SHOP BECAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT, I WAS DRIVING HOME AND THE TEMP GAUGE IMMEDIATELY WENT FROM NORMAL TO PAST HOT. ONCE COOLED, I ADDED COOLANT AND NOTICED THE COOLANT JUG HAD CRACKED. AS A RESULT, THE HEAD/HEAD GASKET HAD CRACKED DUE TO THE OVERHEATING FROM LOSS OF COOLANT. AS A RESULT OF THE CRACKED HEAD, EXHAUST IS NOW ENTERING INTO THE COOLANT SYSTEM, AND CAUSING COOLANT TO BOIL OUT, AND PUMP EXHAUST FUMES INTO THE CABIN. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM, AND THAT THE BLOWN ENGINE WAS NOT A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT. I HAVE MADE IT A POINT TO TALK TO EVERY TAURUS OWNER I CAN, AND MANY HAVE THE SAME EXHAUST ODOR IN THE CABIN. THE STRESS OF DRIVING, OR AN ACCIDENT, CAUSES THE COOLANT JUG TO CRACK AND LEAK OUT COOLANT. I PERSONALLY HAVE REPLACED 5 OF THESE JUGS SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE CAR BECAUSE OF CRACKING ON THE BOTTOM AND COOLANT WOULD LEAK OUT. ONCE THIS STARTS, THE CAR OVERHEATS WITHOUT WARNING BECAUSE THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR DOES NOT HAVE COOLANT RUNNING ACROSS IT TO GET THE PROPER COOLANT TEMPERATURE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING OFF THE PARKING LOT OF OUR CORNER CONVENIENCE STORE, MY SON TURN ON THE A/C ONLY TO HAVE SMOKE AND FLAMES SHOOT OUT FROM THE VENTS. IN AN INSTANT PANIC HE LOOKED AROUND AND FOUND THAT THEY WERE TRYING TO FLAG HIM THAT FLAMES WERE SHOOTING FROM UNDER THE CAR. HE IMMEDIATELY CROSSED THE STREET AND WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR SAFELY. THE FLAMES BURNED THROUGH THE TOP OF THE HOOD AND THANKFULLY THE FIRE DEPT WAS QUICK AND WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. EVERYTHING UNDER THE HOOD WAS DESTROYED AND EVEN THE FRONT TIRES WOULDN'T BUDGE WHEN TRYING TO PUSH THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE WAY AFTERWARDS. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO OUR HOME AND STILL ARE IN POSSESSION OF IT. THOUGH NO WORK HAS BEEN DONE ON IT AND IN OUR OPINION NOTHING LEFT TO WORK ON, WE KNOW THAT THERE HAS TO HAVE BEEN SOMETHING FAULTY. SEVERAL MECHANIC FRIENDS ALL SAY THE SAME THING ABOUT LOOKING INTO THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WHICH HAS BEEN HAVING RECALLS, HOWEVER, OUR MAKE AND MODEL IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. STILL WE KNOW IT DOESN'T JUST HAPPEN WITHOUT A CAUSE WE ARE GRATEFUL THAT OUR SON WAS NOT INJURED AND THOUGH HE WAS DEFINITELY TRAUMATIZED, WE REALIZE IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE AS WE HEAR THE STORIES. WE NOW HAVE NO CAR AND STILL OWE A BALANCE SINCE IT TURNS OUT WHAT WE THOUGHT WE WERE PAYING FOR IN LIABILITY W/ COMP AND COLLISION TURNED OUT TO BE ONLY LIABILITY. THE FORD COMPANY SAYS IT CAN'T HELP US AND SO WE WERE GIVEN TO THIS SITE FOR SOME KIND OF DIRECTION. *TR
