I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25MPH WITH MY LITTLE BROTHER AND SISTER IN THE CAR AND I FELT IT START TO GO FASTER. IT KEPT ON ACCELERATING AND WOULDN'T STOP. WHEN I GOT TO A STOP SIGN AND WAS PRESSING ON THE BREAK THE RPM SHOT UP. EVEN WHEN I PUT IT IN PARK IT KEPT ON ACCELERATING. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC, BUT HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG. IT HAS DONE THIS MANY OF TIMES, ONCE WHERE I ALMOST HIT SOMEONE BECAUSE OF IT. I'M AFRAID IT WILL KEEP DOING IT. *JS
WITHOUT WARNING, THERE WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULTY IN STOPPING THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY, WE WERE ABLE TO LIMP HOME WHERE, SUSPECTING A CALIPER OR WHEEL CYLINDER LEAK, NONE WAS FOUND. ON CLOSER INSPECTION, AN EXTREME LEAK OF BRAKE FLUID WAS OBSERVED COMING FROM THE METAL BRAKE LINES LEADING TO THE REAR BRAKES. THESE LINES WERE FOUND TO BE EXTREMELY CORRODED. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT IN MY 50 PLUS YEARS OF WORKING ON CARS I HAVE NEVER, EVER SEEN SUCH DAMAGE TO SUCH A KEY COMPONENT FOR A VEHICLE. *JB
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL. I TRIED STOPPING THE CAR, I PUT IT INTO PARK, AND EVEN WHILE IN PARK IT WAS STILL REVVING UP TO 4 OR 5 THOUSAND RPMS. I RE-STARTED THE CAR HOPING THIS WOULD "RE-SET" THE VEHICLE. NO SUCH LUCK. AS FOR NOW, THE VEHICLE'S GAS PEDAL IS EITHER STUCK, OR SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. EITHER WAY, THE SITUATION, IN MY OPINION, IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. MY BRAKES BEGAN TO SMOKE BEFORE I COULD GET THE VEHICLE HOME AND WAIT FOR MY HUSBAND TO HELP ME FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO NEXT. *TR
I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH MY SUDDEN ACCELERATION, STICKING ACCELERATOR PEDAL SINCE MY CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED FUNCTIONING. I PULL OVER OR PLACE MY CAR INTO NEUTRAL TO GET THE ACCELERATION TO STOP. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS AND FEEL A RECALL IS ADVISABLE FOR THIS ISSUE BEFORE INJURY OCCURS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THERE WAS A SUDDEN INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED SEVERAL TIMES IN AN ATTEMPT TO RELEASE THE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE PROBLEM RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000.
ABOUT A YEAR AGO OUR TAURUS STARTED TO EXPERIENCE SUDDEN ACCELERATIONS. IT WOULD GO FROM 40 TO 70 WITH YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS. HAD TO PULL OVER, PUT IN NEUTRAL, AND STOMP ON GAS PEDDLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WITH THE LAST OCCURRENCE JULY 15, 2014. MECHANICS CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT. CAR IS TOO DANGEROUS TO OPERATE. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. *TR
AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY AND ATTEMPTING TO SLOW DOWN, THE CAR BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND HITTING THE BRAKES SLOWED IT DOWN BUT WAS NOT STOPPING. WITH A RED LIGHT AHEAD I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, TO SLOW DOWN BUT THE ENGINE BEGIN TO REV, I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT WHERE I PUT THE CAR IN PARK. ONCE THE CAR WAS PUT IN PARK, THE THROTTLE KEPT GOING AND THE RPM ACCELERATED TO JUST UNDER 4000. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND CALLED MY HUSBAND, WHEN HE ARRIVED HE TOOK A LOOK UNDER THE HOOD AND SAID THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HAD COME UNDONE AND WAS CAUGHT UP ON THE THROTTLE. I HAD MY TWO GIRLS WITH ME AT THE TIME, 4&2. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS NOT A RECALL, I GUESS BECAUSE THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY FATALITIES ITS NOT A BIG DEAL. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE THAT NEEDS ATTENTION FAST, I HOPE IM WRONG BUT I THINK ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR
THE VEHICLE AT AROUND 40 MPH WILL ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN REACHING SPEED OF 60-70 MPH NEEDING CONSTANT BRAKING TO MAINTAIN THE SPEED LIMIT OF 45 MPH. UPON START UP IT HAS A HIGH IDLE TAKING 3-4 MINUTES TO COME DOWN BELOW 2 RPMS. *TR
DRIVING THE CAR ON A COUNTY HIGHWAY IN TEXAS, LET OFF BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN WHILE APPROACHING INTERSECTION, CAR SPED UP BUT WE AVOIDED ACCIDENT BY PULLING OFF ROAD. FRIEND CAME AND WE OBSERVED THAT WHILE IN PARK WITH NOBODY IN CAR, THE CAR'S ENGINE WOULD ACCELERATE TO OVER 4,000 RPM, DECLINE TO JUST BELOW 3,000 RPMS, THEN ACCELERATE AGAIN TO OVER 4,000. TOWED TO DEALER, WAS TOLD IT WAS A DIRTY THROTTLE, WHICH HAD JUST BEEN CLEANED A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO. *TR
FOR THE PAST YEAR OUR CAR HAS HAD MOMENTS OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION WITHOUT EXPLANATION. INITIALLY, TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN RESTARTING IT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. AS OF JUNE OF THIS YEAR, SUCH WAS NOT THE CASE. WE STOPPED AND TURNED THE CAR OFF, BUT WHEN RESTARTED IT IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED AGAIN (WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL). OUR MECHANIC HAS LOOKED AT THE CAR TWICE AND HAS NOT IDENTIFIED ANYTHING SPECIFIC. HE HAS MADE SEPARATE REPAIRS HOPING THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM, BUT AS OF TODAY, OCTOBER 26, 2014, IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. LIKE IN JUNE, TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND WE ARE QUITE CONCERNED, HOPING FOR SUGGESTIONS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT THE CONTACT APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS, WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE TWO SENSORS THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000. *TR
WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL, AT TIMES AN OBJECT CAN BE HEARD ROLLING AROUND IN STEERING WHEEL. ALSO, MILEAGE LIGHT IS NOT LIGHTED. IT CAN ONLY BE SEEN AT NIGHT WHEN DARK OUT. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR THE LAST 2 TO 3 YEARS. I TOOK VEHICLE TO A ST. CLOUD, MN FORD DEALER ON MAY 22, 2015, TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM MAY BE PART OF THE RECENT AIRBAG RECALL. DEALER ADVISED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON VEHICLE AND THE PROBLEM MAY BE UNRELATED TO RECALL. *TR
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR EVEN AT SPEEDS OF 45 MILES PER HOUR IT DIES. NO LIGHTS FOR FLASHERS NO POWER STEERING NO POWER BRAKES. IT DOES START BACK UP BUT IN THE MEAN TIME I AM IN MOVING TRAFFIC. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP ALL WEEK THEY HAVE EXECUTED MANY TESTS AND CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED I HAD MY 3 YR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER IN THE CAR AND I BELIEVE THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE A REAR END COLLISION. *TR
NOTICEABLE VARIATIONS IN SPEED WITH NO DIRECT CONNECTION TO GAS PEDAL/BRAKES. THIS STARTED WITHIN THE LAST FEW WEEKS AND I AM FEARFUL THAT I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STOP WHEN NEEDED. ALSO, THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A RATTLE NOW AND THE STEERING SEEMS "OFF". *TR
ON MY WAY TO WORK I WAS TRYING TO REDUCE MY SPEED BUT NOTICED I COULDN'T BECAUSE IT WAS AS IF I STILL HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL, AND MY CAR WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. IT HAPPENED ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS THAT MORNING, WHEN I LEFT WORK IT WAS WORSE THE GAS PEDAL WAS ALMOST STUCK AND WAS STILL GAINING SPEED EVEN WITH ME APPLYING THE BRAKE, I ALMOST HIT SEVERAL PEOPLE BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET TO MY DESTINATION AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. AS A MOTHER I WAS THANKFUL MY CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE CAR AT THE TIMES THIS OCCURRED, BUT IT SCARED ME TO DEATH AND AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. THIS ISSUE IS PUTTING PEOPLE'S LIVES IN DANGER AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. I CONTACTED THE USED CAR DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR(WALDORF FORD & DODGE USED CAR CENTER) AND SPOKE TO A SERVICE MANAGER NAMED DREW. I EXPLAINED TO HIM THE ISSUE AND WHAT HAPPENED THAT DAY, AND HE SAID THERE WOULD BE A CHARGE OF $116.00 JUST TO LOOK AT THE CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP, HE NEVER TOLD ME THERE WAS ANY KIND OF INVESTIGATION REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND ACTED AS IF HE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THIS "RECALL IN PROCESS" . *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON (AT 72 MPH). WHEN I EXITED THE INTERSTATE AT THE EXIT RAMP, THE CAR HAD DIFFICULTY STOPPING. I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKES REALLY HARD TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP AND AT FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS A BRAKING ISSUE. I HAD TO DRIVE THROUGH 3 TRAFFIC LIGHTS TO GET TO THE CLOSEST PARKING LOT TO STOP AND EACH TIME I HAD A VERY DIFFICULT TIME GETTING THE CAR TO STOP AND IT WOULD "JACK RABBIT" START AND I DIDN'T HAVE TO HIT THE ACCELERATOR BETWEEN LIGHTS (CAR WOULD GO 35 MPH OR SO). I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK, WHEN I DID, THE ENGINE REVVED OPEN AND WENT UP THE 3500-4000 RPM BEFORE I COULD SHUT IT OFF. I WAITED FOR MY BROTHER TO COME CHECK THE CAR. HE HOOKED UP THE CAR TO A COMPUTER TO CHECK FOR ANY ISSUES AND THERE WEREN'T ANY THAT CAME UP ON THE COMPUTER. HE HAD ME START THE CAR AND IT WAS RUNNING IN THE NORMAL RPM RANGE. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY ISSUES SINCE AND HAVEN'T HAD THE CAR CHECKED OUT SINCE IT WAS BEHAVING NORMALLY. I READ ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION ON THE VEHICLE FROM 2012 AND NOTICED THAT THE REPORTS I READ WERE VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. I HADN'T TRIED TO USE CRUISE CONTROL AGAIN UNTIL TODAY AND DISCOVERED THAT MY CRUISE CONTROL ISN'T WORKING. THE "CRUISE" LIGHT COMES ON, BUT WHEN I TRY TO SET THE CRUISE CONTROL, IT WON'T SET AT ALL. I TRIED TURNING IT OFF AND ON 3 TIMES TO GET IT TO SET AND IT DIDN'T WORK. I AM PLANNING ON INSPECTING THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE IN THE NEAR FUTURE TO PREVENT FURTHER ISSUES, BUT I WANTED THE NHTSA TO BE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. *TR
WHILE DRIVE DOWN THE STREET APPROX 25MPH THE ENGINE STARTED TO REV UP AND THE CAR ACCELERATED. EVEN WHEN I TRIED TO BRAKE THE CAR WANTED TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE. I TRIED STOMPING ON THE GAS PEDAL, BUT IF DIDN'T HAVE ANY AFFECT. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED THE PROBLEM DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR
AS I WAS COMING UP THE HILL NEAR MY APARTMENT AT 30 MPH ON SATURDAY, MARCH 2, 2013, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AS I REACHED THE TOP OF THE HILL. I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO BRAKE BUT THE CAR WAS STILL PUSHING FORWARD. I WAS ABLE TO PARK, BUT THE CAR WAS STILL TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD. I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BREAK. SUDDENLY, MY RPMS SHOT UP TO AROUND 6000. I CUT THE CAR OFF. WHEN I TURNED IT ON THIRTY MINUTES LATER (STILL IN PARK), THE RPMS SHOT UP AGAIN. I CHECKED THIS MORNING AND IT WAS NO LONGER DOING THIS, BUT I AM HESITANT TO GET BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THIS CAR RIGHT NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH EXTREME FORCE AND SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,593. UPDATED 04/30/13*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE AT ANY GIVEN TIME. SOMETIMES, WHEN PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK OR NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE WOULD RETURN TO NORMAL.
GAS PEDAL STICKS WHEN STARTING CAR. VERY STIFF UNTIL YOU TAP SEVERAL TIMES. SEEMS TO BE GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND MY ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK. I WAS ONLY GOING 10 MPH BUT IT KEPT GOING WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES. I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND ABOUT AN HOUR LATER I TRIED TO DRIVE HOME. IT HAPPENED LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES LATER. THE ENGINE REVVED UP, THE ACCELERATOR WAS TO THE FLOOR. I HIT THE BRAKES, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND CUT OFF THE CAR. THE ACCELERATOR WAS VISIBLY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS TERRIFIED BUT THANKFUL I NEVER MADE IT ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE ON-BOARD COMPUTER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 144,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES BY ITSELF. I MUST KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES TO KEEP IT SLOWED DOWN. IT OFTEN ACCELERATES UP TO 45 MPH WITH NO APPLICATION OF GAS BY ME.
2006 FORD TAURUS. CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN VEHICLE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. *JB UPDATED 02/19/13
I BOUGHT A FORD TAURUS ON DECEMBER 3 GOT IT HOME AND PUT IT IN PARK AND IT WAS LIKE THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK. HAVE HAD IT IN SHOP NUMEROUS TIMES. IT DOES THIS GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT TIMES AND IS UNPREDICTABLE. IT IS VERY HARD TO APPLY THE BRAKE TO STOP IT AND I HAVE TO ROMP ON THE GAS AND THEN HIT THE BRAKES. MY CRUISE CONTROL IN MY CARE DOES NOT WORK AND HAVE READ THAT IT MAYBE PART OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2006 FORD TAURUS ON JUNE 24TH, 2012. THE TAURUS WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND IT RAN WONDERFULLY, FOR THE FIRST SEVEN MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. HOWEVER, IN NOVEMBER OF 2012, THE CAR BEGAN RANDOMLY SHUTTING OFF, SOMETIMES WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IT WOULD HAPPEN SPORADICALLY AND I THOUGHT IT WAS A PROBLEM THAT COULD BE FIXED. HOWEVER, AFTER TAKING IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, NO MECHANIC IS ABLE TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. THE REASON BEING THAT SINCE IT HAPPENS SPORADICALLY, NO ONE CAN DUPLICATE IT NOR IS THERE ANY SAVED CENSOR ABNORMALITIES. I HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, HOPING THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, IT HAS NOT. SOMETIMES IT WILL HAPPEN UP TO SIX TIMES IN ONE DAY WHILE I'M GOING AS FAST AS 50 M.P.H. I REFUSE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE I FEAR FOR MY LIFE SINCE THE CAR SHUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL TURN BACK ON AND OTHER TIMES, I WILL HAVE TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND RE-TURN ON THE CAR. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I AM NOW STUCK WITH A CAR THAT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY AND IS A DANGER TO MY WELL-BEING EACH TIME I GET BEHIND THE WHEEL. I DO NOT BLAME THE DEALERSHIP FOR SELLING ME THE CAR; HOWEVER, I DO BLAME THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR THIS VERY SERIOUS AND VERY FAULTY PROBLEM. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS AS A FORMAL COMPLAINT AGAINST THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND I URGE YOU TO TAKE THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY, FOR MY SAFETY AS WELL AS OTHER FORD TAURUS OWNERS. *TR

THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE DIFFERENT TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD HAVE TO BE CLEANED. AFTER THE REPAIR THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHICH STOPPED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,100.
BEGINNING A FEW MONTHS AGO (NOVEMBER 2012), MY 2006 FORD TAURUS HAS HAD A COUPLE TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE WITHOUT PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL. THESE FEW INCIDENTS HAVE CORRESPONDED WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL STOPPING TO WORK. I NOTICE THEM AT LOWER SPEEDS, BUT I CANNOT RULE OUT THE SAME ISSUE AT HIGHER SPEEDS BECAUSE BRAKING IS HARDER AT THESE SPEEDS. THE LAST INCIDENT WAS DECEMBER 31, 2012 AT 9:32 PM. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT 25 MPH. I NOTICED IT WAS HARD TO STOP AND THE RPM'S WERE NOT SLOWING DOWN WHEN I BROKE. I THEN HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. AT THAT MOMENT THE RPMS INCREASED TO 4,000 AND I TURNED THE CAR OFF. I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN IN PARK AND IT DID THE SAME THING. THE THIRD RESTART, IT BEGAN TO INCREASE, BUT WHEN I PUMPED THE PEDAL THE INCREASE STOPPED AND IT RETURNED TO NORMAL IDLE RPM. UPON SEARCHING GOOGLE FOR THIS ISSUE, I SAW MULTIPLE REPORTS ON THE NHTSA'S INVESTIGATION IN MARCH 2012. AS A RESULT, I AM SUBMITTING THIS CLAIM. THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO STOP FOR A MONTH OR TWO UNTIL MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IN DECEMBER 2012 AND HE TRIED TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL AND IT WOULD NOT WORK. WHEN WE GOT TO THE CITY OFF THE INTERSTATE THE CAR BEGAN THE ACCELERATION AGAIN WHILE IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC. IT HAPPENED ONCE AGAIN TO ME TWO WEEKS AGO AND LAST WEEK THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON. THE CAR SEEMS TO DRIVE OK UNTIL WE DRIVE IT AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS FOR A PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN SLOW DOWN. I CAME TO A LIGHT AND AS I TRIED TO BRAKE THE ENGINE REVVED TO 4000 RPM. I COULD BARELY STOP AT THE LIGHT. I TRIED MY HARDEST TO BRAKE AND THE CAR WOULDN'T COMPLETELY STOP. THE ENGINE REVVED EVEN HIGHER AND I TURNED OFF THE CAR AS I ALMOST HIT A CURB AT A TURN AND ENDED UP BLOCKING A HOSPITAL ENTRANCE. PURCHASED THE CAR IN LATE AUGUST 2012. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE CAR WOULD REV HIGH ON COLD STARTS, WHEN PLACED INTO GEAR CAR SOMETIMES WOULD DIE. THIS WAS NOT A CONSISTENT PROBLEM AND DIFFICULT TO DESCRIBE AND IDENTIFY THE ISSUE. BY THE END OF DECEMBER 2012 THE PROBLEM BECAME CONSISTENT ON EACH COLD START. TOOK CAR INTO FIRESTONE. FIRESTONE REPLACED IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE AND CLEANED FUEL SYSTEM. FIRST ATTEMPT TO REPLACE AIR CONTROL VALVE FAILED WHEN THEY BELIEVED THE NEW PART WAS DEFECTIVE. REPLACED NEW ONE WITH ANOTHER NEW ONE AND THE CAR STARTED FINE FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND WENT BACK TO INCONSISTENT START UPS. TOOK CAR BACK TO FIRESTONE. THEY AGAIN REPLACED AIR CONTROL VALVE AND THE PROBLEM STILL WAS PRESENT AND I WAS TOLD TO TAKE TO THE DEALERSHIP. TOOK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY STATED THE MOST RECENT AIR CONTROL VALVE PLACED BY FIRESTONE WAS DEFECTIVE AND THEY REPLACED AIR CONTROL VALVE WITH FORD EXCLUSIVE PART. PICKED CAR UP AND UPON LEAVING THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. I TURNED THE CAR AROUND AND HAD THEM LOOK AT IT AGAIN. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. TWO WEEKS LATER THE PROBLEM APPEARED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I WOULD LIFT MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE TO 60MPH BEFORE I APPLIED THE BRAKE TO SLOW IT DOWN. TO KEEP A CONSISTENT SPEED I WOULD HAVE TO "RIDE THE BRAKE". I INTERNET SEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND CAME ACROSS AN ARTICLE DESCRIBING THE EXACT PROBLEM I WAS HAVING AND THAT IT WAS UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR 2005-06 FORD TAURUS FOR SUDDEN ACCELERATION MOST LIKELY DUE TO CRUISE CONTROL CABLE CATCHING ON THE THROTTLE. TOLD FORD DEALERSHIP WHAT I DISCOVERED, TOOK THE CAR IN AND THEY IDENTIFIED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS IN FACT CATCHING ON THE THROTTLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ONE DAY AND NOTICED THE CAR WASN'T RUNNING RIGHT, I COULD TELL THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG. I CAN TURN IT ON AND SET THE CRUISE. THE LIGHT EVEN WORKS ON THE DASH SAYING THE CRUISE IS SET. BUT, THE CAR JUST DECELERATES WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CRUISE TURNS OFF AFTER IT SLOWS DOWN 5-7 MPH FROM WHERE IT WAS SET. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
AFTER STOPPING FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT I TRIED TO PROCEED AND, AFTER REACHING ROUGHLY 25 MILES PER HOUR, FORWARD PROGRESS STOPPED AND THE ENGINE REVVED FREELY. THE TRANSMISSION HAD COMPLETELY FAILED WITH NO ABILITY TO MOVE THE CAR. LUCKILY I WAS AT A LOW SPEED AND COULD SAFELY GET OUT OF THE WAY OF UNSUSPECTING TRAFFIC. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. IF THIS HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED, OR ANY OTHER NUMBER OF DANGEROUS DRIVING INSTANCES, THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE WOULD MOST DEFINITELY BE PLACED IN A SITUATION WHERE INJURY OR EVEN DEATH WERE POSSIBLE. FORD NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE TO PROBLEM AND OFFER TO REIMBURSE (FULLY OR PARTIALLY) THEIR CUSTOMERS. THERE IS A DEFINITE ELEMENT OF SAFETY TO THIS FAILURE. *TR
