STOP TO GET GAS AT A GAS STATION NEAR MY WORK AND MY SEAT BELT WOULDN'T RELEASE SEAT BELT BUCKLE. PANICKED, FELT TRAPPED AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS. CUT MY WAY OUT WITH SCISSORS FROM GLOVE BOX.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
5 MINUTES INTO A TRIP THROUGH TOWN I NOTICED THAT IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO USE MY BRAKES, I HAD TO FORCE THEM DOWN AND HOLD THE BRAKE PEDAL HARD. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I RELEASED THE BRAKES MY CAR SHOT FORWARD WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER ON THE FREEWAY I REALIZED MY CRUISE CONTROL WASN'T WORKING. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND HE HAD TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR A MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
ON MAY 6, 2012, WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I COULD FEEL MY 2006 FORD TAURUS SE ACCELERATING DESPITE MY FOOT NOT PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR, NOR THE CRUISE CONTROL BEING ENGAGED. AS I PRESSED THE BRAKES, THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE, WITH RPM REACHING 3000 TO 4000. AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY AND PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. IN ORDER TO STOP THIS RAPID ACCELERATION IN RPM, I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. UPON RESTARTING, THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY REVVED TO OVER 3000 RPM. IF I SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE WOULD REV TO 4000 RPM THEN DROP DOWN TO 1000 RPM. THIS SUDDEN, RAPID, ACCELERATION CONTINUED TO RANDOMLY OCCUR AS I DROVE TO MY DESTINATION. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER FOR REPAIRS, AS I WAS NOT NEAR MY PLACE OF RESIDENCE. THEY REPLACED THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. HOWEVER, AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON AUGUST 12,2012, AT A SPEED BETWEEN 35-40 MPH, MY TAURUS BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AGAIN ON ITS OWN. I IMMEDIATELY SHIFTED THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND THE RPM WENT TO 4000 AND DROPPED DOWN TO 1000. I THEN SHIFTED THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DRIVE POSITION, AND THE ENGINE IDLED FINE THE REST OF MY TRIP HOME. THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE THE RAPID ACCELERATION IS SIMILAR TO WHEN USING THE CRUISE CONTROL. IF THE CRUISE CONTROL IS TURNED ON AND YOU DECIDE TO "COAST", THE ENGINE SLOWS DOWN. BUT WHEN YOU PRESS THE "RESUME" BUTTON ON THE CRUISE CONTROL, YOU CAN FEEL THE ENGINE PULL AND THE CAR BEGIN ACCELERATING. THIS IS WHAT IT FELT LIKE WHILE DRIVING. HOWEVER, I HAD NOT BEEN USING THE CRUISE CONTROL IN EITHER OF THE AFOREMENTIONED SITUATIONS. MY MOTHER, MY NEWBORN DAUGHTER, MYSELF OR OTHER MOTORISTS COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED DURING THIS UNCONTROLLED INCREASED ACCELERATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND TO THE BRAKES BEING ENGAGED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO FINALLY STOP THE VEHICLE AFTER REPEATED PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN SHUT OFF. UPON RESTART, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE DRIVE THE VEHICLE AS NORMAL. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 178,000. ... ON OR ABOUT 04/17/2012 AND ON 05/14/2012 I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 FORD TAURUS AND SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE ACCELERATION SEEMED TO HAVE STUCK IN ACCELERATED STATE CAUSING THE CAR TO SUDDENLY GO FASTER THAT THE APPROX 30 MPH THAT I WAS DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CAR'S ENGINE SEEMED TO BE REVVING AND I HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES WITH SOME FORCE TO STOP THE CAR. THE FIRST TIME I WAS ABLE TO STOP AT THE RED LIGHT WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED HARD, EVEN AFTER COMING TO A STOP AS THE CAR STILL WANTED TO GO. ONCE THE LIGHT CHANGED TO GREEN I DROVE FORWARD AND BEGAN TAPPING THE GAS/BRAKE MULTIPLE TIMES IN SOME HOPE TO STOP THE UNWANTED ACCELERATION. FINALLY THE CAR RETURNED BACK TO NORMAL. YESTERDAY THE EXACT THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS GOING ABOUT 30 MPH ON A TOWN STREET WHEN FOR NO KNOWN REASON TO ME THE ENGINE REVVED UP AND THE ACCELERATION CAUSED THE TAURUS TO WANT TO SPEED FURTHER. I TURNED OFF A NEARBY SIDE STREET, DEPRESSING THE BRAKES HARD TO STOP. I SHUT OFF THE CAR AFTER I PULLED OVER. SHORTLY THEREAFTER I STARTED THE TAURUS AGAIN BUT THE ACCELERATION WAS STILL GOING. I BEGAN TAPPING THE GAS/BRAKES AND THEN THE CAR WENT BACK TO NORMAL. I AM WORRIED AS THIS APPEARS TO BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS SUDDEN AND UNWANTED RANDOM ACCELERATION OF MY 2006 FORD TAURUS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, INJURIES OR DEATH. PLEASE HELP! *TR *JS
SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM WITH MY 2006 FORD TAURUS HAS STARTED AGAIN...I FIRST REPORTED THIS TO NHTSA ABOUT A MONTH AGO..THIS TIME AROUND, IT BEGINS INTERMITTENTLY ON START UP, AND SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING...THIS PROBLEM BEGAN WHEN MY CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION...IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES TO MY WIFE ABOUT 2 HOURS AGO, AND SHE HAD TO PRESS VERY HARD ON THE BRAKES TO GET IT TO STOP AT A STOPLIGHT THE ACCELERATION PROBLEMS BEGAN OVER A YEAR AGO AND HAPPENED ON AND OFF SINCE THEN....WE HAVE GONE THROUGH A PERIOD OF SEVERAL MONTHS WITHOUT A PROBLEM..BUT THIS TIME IT IS MUCH WORSE, THE ACCELERATION IS MORE SEVERE.. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS A SHORT CIRCUIT WITHIN THE RADIO, WHICH CAUSED THE SPEEDOMETER AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE FOR THE AIR BAG HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND RADIO. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
AFTER TAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE VEHICLE BEGAN ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. I HAD TO FULLY APPLY THE BRAKE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. IT WAS TERRIFYING. MY WHOLE BODY SHOOK. I THOUGHT I WOULD HIT SOMETHING BECAUSE I DID NOT THINK THAT I COULD STOP THE CAR. EVEN WHILE PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN AND SHIFTING INTO D I COULD NOT KEEP THE CAR UNDER 40 MPH. THE ENGINE KEPT REVVING AND THE CAR KEPT GAINING SPEED. LUCKILY, THE ONLY LIGHT I HAD WAS GREEN. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN TO A STOP BY APPLYING ALL MY FORCE TO THE BRAKE. I SHIFTED INTO PARK HOPING THAT WOULD KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING. IT CAUSED A LOUD SOUND THAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION AND STARTLED EVERYONE IN THE PARKING LOT. STILL NOT SURE WHAT TO DO, I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. A PARKING SPOT OPENED UP SO I TURNED ON THE IGNITION, THAT CAUSED AN EVEN LOUDER EXPLOSIVE SOUND. I WAS STILL TERRIFIED BUT I HAD TO ACT - SO I FORCED THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN AS HARD AS I COULD AND SHIFTED TO D AND WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE INTO THE PARKING SPOT. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AGAIN AND AGAIN IT CAUSED A LOUD EXPLOSIVE SOUND. BY NOW I WAS A SPECTACLE IN THE PARKING LOT BUT I WAS JUST THANKFUL THAT I WAS ALIVE AND THAT NO ONE WAS HURT. I LOOKED DOWN AT THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS FULLY DEPRESSED AND LOOSE. I PULLED THE PEDAL UP BUT THERE WAS NO TENSION TO HOLD IT UP AND IT DROPPED BACK ALL THE WAY DOWN. I DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK HOME, IN MUCH THE SAME WAY - TRANSMISSION IN D, APPLYING A LOT OF FORCE TO THE BRAKE AND HOPING THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO STOP SUDDENLY OR GET PULLED OVER FOR SPEEDING SINCE I COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE SLOWER THAN 40 MPH EVEN WHILE PUSHING ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD THE WHOLE TRIP. AND WHEN I PARKED THE CAR AT HOME, IT MADE THE SAME LOUD SOUND AND I ALSO HEARD TICKING NOISES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I AM STILL SHAKEN UP BY THE INCIDENT.
INTERMITTENT THROTTLE PROBLEMS. ON THE FREEWAY, HAVE HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL ON AND IT DOESN'T WORK, OFF AND IT CONTINUES TO HOLD IT'S CURRENT SPEED. ON CITY STREETS, IDLES AT HIGH RATE, AND WHEN BREAK RELEASED THE CAR INCREASES SPEED (I.E. WENT FROM 0 TO 45MPH WITHOUT PRESSING GAS PEDDLE). I HAVE TO PRESS BREAK OFTEN TO REMAIN IN SPEED LIMIT. I AM AFRAID THE BREAKS WILL WEAR OUT TOO QUICKLY WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT BECAUSE THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, FORD DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPAIR THE CAR WITHOUT CHARGING FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND THEN PARTS AND LABOR. THIS IS A DEFECT THAT IS APPARENTLY HAPPENING TO MANY OTHER VEHICLES AND SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY TREATED AS A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT!
WAS DRIVING MY 2006 FORD TAURUS OUT OF A PARKING LOT INTO A BUSY 4 LANE ROAD WITH A 45 MPH SPEED LIMIT. UPON BRAKING RIGHT BEFORE THE SIDEWALK TO WAIT FOR TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE SPED UP AS IF IT A MIND OF ITS OWN. I HIT THE BRAKES BUT VEHICLE DID NOT WANT TO STOP. THE VEHICLE ENTERED THE STREET. LUCKILY THERE WAS JUST ENOUGH DISTANCE SO THE ONCOMING VEHICLE DIDN'T HIT ME. HAD THE OTHER VEHICLE BEEN MOVING FASTER OR BEEN CLOSER AN ACCIDENT COULD HAVE OCCURRED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGIN TO ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE TO 65 MPH. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THE RPMS INCREASED TO 4000. HE THEN DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND AS THE VEHICLE DECELERATED, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SHIFT BACK INTO DRIVE. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVEN TIMES WITHIN ONE MILE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT HAD NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE BACK AS TO THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
EXITED THE INTERSTATE AFTER USING CRUISE CONTROL. APPROXIMATELY 20-25 MILES AFTER EXITING I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN DUE TO TRAFFIC. RPM REVVED UP AND CAR SEEMED TO BE FIGHTING ME - IT WANTED TO GO FASTER BUT I WANTED TO SLOW DOWN. I WAS APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES FROM MY HOME AND BASICALLY WAS APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES OFF AND ON. I STOPPED IN A SCHOOL ZONE FOR BUS TRAFFIC AND ALMOST COULD NOT GET STOPPED. THEN WHEN RELEASING THE BRAKE THE CAR JUMPED UP IN SPEED AND WAS HARD TO CONTROL. I DID EVENTUALLY MAKE IT TO MY HOME AND TURNED INTO MY DRIVE AT A VERY HIGH SPEED. I DID GET STOPPED, PLACED CAR IN PARK BUT ENGINE STILL REVVED VERY VERY LOUDLY. I TURNED THE CAR OFF. A MECHANIC SHOWED ME A HOSE THAT HAD COME LOOSE AND HE PUT IT BACK ON. I ONLY DROVE CAR APPROXIMATELY 5-6 MILE TRIPS FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. AGAIN ON 3-21-2012 WHILE ATTEMPTING TO VISIT SOMEONE 1.5 HOURS AWAY THE SAME THING OCCURRED AGAIN. I STOPPED AT THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS GOING TO JUMP THROUGH THE WALL. IT WAS VERY SCARY AND I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD TO FIND THE HOSE HAD POPPED OFF AGAIN. I DID GET IT BACK ON AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND ABANDONED TRIP AND DROVE HOME. BEFORE REACHING HOME REPEAT OF THE INCIDENT. MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER CALLED THE FORD DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND THE RESPONSE WAS I COULD BRING IT FOR A SERVICE CALL AND FEE BUT THEY COULD NOT OFFER ANY FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER ALSO ASKED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS THEY HAD A WRECKER SERVICE. I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO FROM HERE, PLEASE ADVISE. I WORK FOR THE STATE PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT SYSTEM AND COULD POSSIBLY TRAVEL AT ANY GIVEN TIME. I READ THE RECENT ARTICLES AND THE PICTURES ARE EXACTLY WHAT WAS SHOWN UNDER THE HOOD OF MY CARE. ENGINE RPM INCREASED EXCESSIVELY AT A STOP SIGN, CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN I HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF TWICE TO GET IT TO STOP REVVING. *TR
MANY TIMES WHILE DRIVING ONLY (NOT PARKED WITH MOTOR RUNNING), THE ACCELERATOR BECOMES STUCK/JAMMED AND MUST BE TAPPED SEVERAL TIMES TO UNSTICK WHAT SEEMS TO BE A GHOST-DRIVEN PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WILL SOMETIMES UNSTICK WHILE MOVING, BUT I HAVE BEEN SCARED TO THE POINT OF STOPPING THE VEHICLE SINCE IT WON'T UNSTICK AND PUT IT INTO PARK AND HIT THE GAS AGAIN. THIS DOES UNSTICK THE GAS PEDAL. *TR
CAR WILL ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN AT MANY DIFFERENT SPEEDS, EVEN THOSE OVER 55. BREAKING WILL ONLY SLOW AND NOT STOP ACCELERATION. YOU CAN SMELL THE BRAKES BURNING IF YOU TRY TO STOP THE CAR DURING THESE PERIODS BY ONLY PRESSING THE BRAKE. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND LET THE MOTOR RACE UP AND THEN IT WILL RESET THE THROTTLE. IT HAPPENS ON A REGULAR BASIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE RPM INCREASED EXCESSIVELY AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. 2006 FORD TAURUS. CONSUMER STATES IDLE, ACCELERATION ISSUES AND PROBLEM WITH SEAT BELT *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER MANY REPAIRS, THE MECHANICS WERE NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE SEAT BELT TENSIONERS LOCKED UP WHICH MADE THE SEAT BELTS INOPERABLE. *JB

THE CONTACT HAD TO REPEATEDLY DEPRESS ON THE BRAKES IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO DECELERATE. WHILE DRIVING, THE ACCELERATOR BECAME STUCK WHICH ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. IT HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE THE FIRST DATE PLUS IT HAS OCCURRED AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DEAL WITH IT, BY PLACING THE AUTO IN NEUTRAL AND HITTING THE GAS PEDAL A FEW TIMES WHICH CAUSES THE RPM'S TO DECREASE TO NORMAL. I DON'T KNOW WHICH AUTO COMPONENT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM, BUT I RECENTLY READ IN THE PAPER THAT IT MIGHT BE A FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL CABLE.

CONSUMER STATED WHINE COASTING UP HILL AND APPROACHING HER LEFT TURN THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. *LN THE CONSUMER STATED SHE MADE THE TURN APPLYING A GOOD AMOUNT FORCE TO THE BRAKE. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ANYWAY. THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATED EVEN WITHOUT HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE. SHE FINALLY MANEUVERED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD,PLACE BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH A GREAT DEAL OF FORCE, PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATED TO 3000 RPM'S WHILE IDLING. SHE TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WHEN SHE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS IT CONTINUED TO EXHIBIT THE SAME PROBLEM. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD HAVE TO BE CLEANED. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE12005 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CABLES) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE . THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000. UPDATED 04/25/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE RPM'S WENT BETWEEN 5,000 AND 6,000 MOST OF THE TIME. THE PROBLEM WOULD HAPPEN ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE CAR HAS INTERMITTENT HIGH IDLE MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP. IT ALSO LURCHES FORWARD ONCE FOOT IS OFF THE BRAKE. I HAVE BEEN IN SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF HIGH IDLE PROBLEM. REPLACED PVC, REPLACED IAC, CLEANED THROTTLE BODY, WITH NO GOOD RESULTS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO DROP MY KIDS OFF AT SCHOOL AND DAYCARE WHEN I NOTICED IT WAS RUNNING AT AN EXTREMELY HIGH RPM (5000). I HAD TO DRIVE WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO KEEP THE SPEED AT A REASONABLE LIMIT. ONCE I GOT TO THE FIRST SCHOOL, I PARKED AND SHUT IT OFF THINKING MAYBE THAT WOULD HELP. WHEN I STARTED IT BACK UP, THE ENGINE RPM IMMEDIATELY SHOT BACK UP TO 5000 AND CLIMBING. THE ENGINE WAS MAKING SUCH A LOUD AND VIBRATORY NOISE THAT I SHUT IT OFF AGAIN AND CALLED MY HUSBAND AND HE CAME OVER AND TRADED VEHICLES WITH ME. SAME THING WHEN STARTED IT; IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED REVVING AND HE PUT IT INTO DRIVE AND THERE WAS LOUD THUD AS IF THE ENGINE HAD HIT THE GROUND. HE LET OFF THE GAS AND IT STARTED PULLING ITSELF. (NOW FROM MY HUSBAND'S EXPERIENCE) HE TOOK IT ON THE INTERSTATE TO SEE HOW HIGH THE SPEED WOULD GET BEFORE IT TOPPED OUT. EVENTUALLY HE HAD TO START APPLYING THE BRAKES AT 93 MPH. FOR WHATEVER REASON, HE WONDERED IF THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN A SAFE SPEED AND HE WOULDN'T HAVE TO RIDE THE BRAKES AT 65-70 MPH. WHEN HIT THE CRUISE CONTROL IT DIDN'T WORK (HE REALIZED HE WAS RIDING THE BRAKES) SO HE HIT THE BRAKE AS FIRMLY AS HE COULD TO GET IT DOWN TO A SLOWER SPEED TO INVOKE THE CRUISE CONTROL. ONCE HE GOT DOWN TO ABOUT 50-60 MPH HE HIT THE CRUISE AGAIN AND IT CAME ON BUT THE CAR WAS STILL SLOWLY ACCELERATING. HE HIT THE BRAKES TO TURN THE CRUISE OFF AND FELT THE GAS PEDAL POP UP AND HIT HIM ON THE SIDE OF THE RIGHT FOOT AND THEN THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN. WE STILL HAVE TO DRIVE IT (HE DOES BECAUSE I?M TERRIFIED TO GET BEHIND THE WHEEL) AND IT DOES THE SAME THING. ON JAN. 10, 2012 I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A CROSS WALK WITH A FOLLOW TO A STOP LIGHT. IT WAS AT THAT TIME THAT THE CAR ACCELERATED SO FAST I HAD TO PUT THE BRAKES ON, THAT WAS NOT GOING TO STOP THE CAR, SO I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND HIT THE GAS PEDAL WITH MY FOOT, THAT STOP THE CAR FROM ACCELERATING. I ALMOST HIT A PERSON IN THE CROSS WALK AND THEN I WOULD HAVE GONE IN TO THE INTERSECTION. THIS WAS ONE OF MANY INCIDENT'S MY SELF AND MY FAMILY, (HUSBAND, AND SON) HAD WITH THIS CAR. I CALLED FORD CORP OFFICE AND ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM OF COURSE THEY SAID NO. I TOLD THEM ON THE FORD FORM WEBSITE, OTHERS WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED AND IMMEDIATELY HAD EPISODES OF THE ACCELERATOR STICKING. HAPPENS ON NEARLY EVERY TRIP WITH THIS VEHICLE AND HAPPENS 4-5 TIME ON A 20 MILE TRIP. WORSE EPISODES OF STUCK ACCELERATOR WITH RAPID ACCELERATION AS IN FREEWAY ENTRANCE RAMPS. THE BRAKES CAN OVERRIDE THE STUCK ACCELERATOR, BUT IT IS FRIGHTENING WHEN IT HAPPENS IN TOWN. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE AND NOT FINDING A CAUSE, WE HAVE LEARNED TO STOP THE STICKING BY PUNCHING THE ACCELERATOR HARD ONCE OR TWICE AT A POINT IN THE ROAD WHERE MORE FORWARD ACCELERATION WILL NOT BE A SAFETY ISSUE. WE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE SO MUCH AND ARE SO FAMILIAR WITH IT, I SOMETIMES USE IT AS A CRUISE CONTROL FEATURE WHILE ON THE FREEWAY, BUT IT IS NOT AS RELIABLE AND IS NOT AS STEADY AS THE TRUE SPEED CONTROL DEVICE. THIS ISSUE IS DANGEROUS FOR THE INEXPERIENCE DRIVER AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED QUICKLY. I AM AWARE OF A NATIONAL STUDY OF THIS VERY PROBLEM. PLEASE LET US KNOW THE OUTCOME. *TR

THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHEN I TURNED IT ON, BUT MY CAR WOULD NOT STAY AT THE SPEED I SELECTED. IT WOULD JUST DECELERATE IN CRUISE CONTROL. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT, THEY INFORMED ME THAT I HAD A FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL CABLE THAT WAS NOT FITTING PROPERLY ON MY CAR. IT WOULD CATCH ON THE THROTTLE LEVER CAUSING MY CAR TO SURGE. I HAD TO PAY $293.92 TO HAVE THIS FIXED, WHEN IT SEEMED LIKE A FAULTY SAFETY ISSUE THAT THE COMPANY SHOULD HAVE RECALLED/PAID FOR!
