TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD INTERMITTENTLY BECOME STUCK WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH OR HIGHER. THE FAILURE OCCURRED OVER A PERIOD OF A YEAR AND A HALF. THERE WOULD BE A HIGH RATE OF ENGINE RPMS AND THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY REPEATED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 34,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME JAMMED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DECELERATE BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. ONCE STARTED, THE ENGINE WOULD RACE AND THE RPM'S WOULD INCREASE EXCESSIVELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE NEEDED TO BE DISCONNECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DISCONNECTED REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I JUST PURCHASED (1/23/2010) A USED 2006 FORD TAURUS SE, 3.0L VEHICLE WITH 62,800 MILES. AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE THE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT WORK (WOULD NOT ENGAGE) AND I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER (PHILLIPSBURG/STATELINE HYUNDAI) THEY WOULD HAVE ME RETURN TO REPAIR IT AS SOON AS THE PARTS ARRIVED. AT APPROXIMATELY 6:00 PM ON 1/26/2010), I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 35 MPH ON AIRPORT ROAD/SOUTH WHEN I NOTICED THE LIGHT AHEAD TURNED YELLOW. I RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO MAINTAIN SPEED. (I HAD NOT TURNED ON THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THERE WERE NO INDICATIONS IT WAS ON). I THEN STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND TO MY AMAZEMENT THE CAR ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE. I DEPRESSED THE BRAKES FURTHER, BUT THE ENGINE REVVED HIGHER TO MAINTAIN SPEED AND I WENT THRU THE RED LIGHT! ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE CAR, AS ANOTHER TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH STOPPED CARS WAS IMMEDIATELY AHEAD, I HAD TO SWERVE TO THE RIGHT TURN LANE AND WENT THRU ANOTHER RED LIGHT BARELY AVOIDING CROSSING TRAFFIC. NOT THINKING TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION, I DEPRESSED THE PARKING BRAKE, CONTINUED TO HIT THE MAIN BRAKES AND THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW (SPEED) ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE REVVED UNCONTROLLABLY. I FINALLY PULLED TO THE SIDE AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE CAR AND DURING 4 SUCCESSIVE TRIES IT IMMEDIATELY REVVED TO OVER 4,000 RPM. ON THE 5TH TRY THE START WAS NORMAL AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. I AM TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALER TOMORROW MORNING TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AND CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY! THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER FOR BOTH MYSELF, MY CAR AND THOSE INNOCENT PEDESTRIANS/FELLOW DRIVERS ON THE ROAD AT THE TIME. *TR
ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO I WAS DRIVING ON THE I-10 ABOUT 60MPH AND I NOTICED THAT MY CAR WAS PICKING UP SPEED. I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CAR WAS GOING FASTER AND FASTER. I TAPED THE ACCELERATOR AND IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL. TWO MONTHS LATER IT DID IT AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT IN TO MY MECHANIC AND HE COULD FIND ANYTHING WRONG. WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM THE MECHANIC, I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45MPH AND IT DID THE SAME THING. THIS TIME I COULD NOT STOP THE PROBLEM SO I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I WAITED A FEW MOMENTS AND STARTED THE CAR AND DROVE HOME WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. ONE MONTH LATER, WHILE DRIVING 30MPH IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THEN TWO MORE TIMES AFTER THAT. EACH TIME I HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF, WAIT A FEW MOMENTS BEFORE RESTARTING. NOW IT'S BACK IN THE SHOP. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS, BUT THEY'RE STILL CHECKING OTHER AREAS. WHY HAS FORD NOT RECALLED THE 2006 FORD TAURUS FOR THIS PROBLEM? DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO BE KILLED FIRST? *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY ACCELERATOR BECAME STUCK HALFWAY DOWN. IT WOULD NOT STICK IF I TAPPED IT, BUT RE-STICK AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HAD BECOME BOUND AROUND THE ACCELERATOR CAUSING IT TO STICK. FIRST INCIDENT WAS OCTOBER 2007, NOW IN DECEMBER 2009 AGAIN. I WAS CHARGED ROUGHLY 100 TO DETACH THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLING. FORD AGREED (RELUCTANTLY) TO REPAIR THE CABLE SO MY CRUISE WOULD WORK. ROUGHLY 50,000 MILES LATER MY ACCELERATOR BECAME STUCK AGAIN. THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT UNSTICK - TAPPING THE PEDAL ONLY MADE ACCELERATION STRONGER. BRAKES BARELY WORKED STOMPED TO THE FLOOR. REPEATED ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKING IN OPEN POSITION IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND UNACCEPTABLE. CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I AM AGAIN STUCK WITH THE BILL - LUCKY I DID NOT CRASH. COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE IF IT BEGAN TO STICK WHILE ACCELERATING HARD. JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN THIS HAPPENED - BOTH TIMES. ONE SECOND THE GAS PEDAL WORKS FINE, THEN BAM, ITS STUCK. ONCE STOPPED I PLACED THE CAR INTO PARK AND IT REVVED UP TO 4000 RPM. WOULD NOT RE-START WITH ACCELERATOR DOWN. HAD TO TOW TO UNHELPFUL AND UNCONCERNED DEALER - WILL NEVER OWN A FORD AGAIN. WHEN THERE IS A HEAVY RAIN. WATER BUILDS UP ON THE FLOOR BOARDS OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. RESEARCHING THIS ONLINE I NOTICE THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THIS SIS A DEFECT RATHER THAN A ONE TIME THING. THE CAUSE OF THE LEAK SEEMS TO BE IN THE ENGINEERING OF THE IN-CABIN FILTER AND CROWL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. THE "AIR BAG "WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. IN ADDITION THE HORN WAS INOPERATIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE CLOCK SPRING. THERE IS A MASSIVE BACK ORDER ON THE REQUIRED REPAIR PART. THE CONTACT WAS PLACED ON A WAITING LIST. THE EARLIEST AVAILABILITY FOR THE PART WAS FEBRUARY 2010. THERE WERE CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISKS INVOLVED AND THE UNCERTAINTY OF THE REPAIR PART. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT INTENTION. SHE HAD TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. SHE CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND A TECHNICIAN SPECULATED THAT THE THROTTLE BECAME STUCK. SHE WAS THEN ADVISED TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR TIMES INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION IN THE CRUISING SYSTEM. THE CRUISING SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
I HEARD SOUNDS LIKE MY BRAKES WERE SCRAPING, SO I THOUGHT MAYBE I NEEDED NEW BRAKE PADS. UPON TAKING THE WHEEL OFF, I DISCOVERED THE BRAKE HOUSING WAS BROKEN. A PART OF THE CASTING WAS MISSING, APPARENTLY BROKEN OFF. THE LOWER PIN THAT ALLOWS THE PADS TO SLIDE WAS STUCK. THE HOUSING IS SLIGHTLY BENT NOT ALLOWING THE PIN TO SLIDE FREELY. *TR
IN A 70MPH ZONE I NUDGED THE GAS PEDAL TO SPEED-UP SLIGHTLY AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT STOP SPEEDING-UP REACHING A SPEED 85MPH WHILE I AM FRANTICALLY WORKING THE BRAKE IN AN EFFORT TO SLOW IT DOWN. AT THAT POINT I WAS TERRIFIED AS I WAS APPROACHING A CAR SOME-WAYS AHEAD OF ME, THEN I JUST SAT ON THE BRAKE AND WAS READY TO SLAM IT INTO NEUTRAL WHEN THE BRAKE STARTED RESPONDING AND I HAD TO RIDE THE BRAKE INTO THE NEAREST GAS STATION. BEING A SUNDAY I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO GET MY CAR HOME UNTIL THE NEXT DAY FOR THE TOW TO GET US TO THE FORD DEALER. NOW ON SEPT 21, IT HAPPENED AGAIN, IN TOWN, LUCKILY NEAR A GARAGE. THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BEFORE INJURY OR DEATHS OCCUR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. WHEN EVER IT RAINED, WATER ACCUMULATED IN THE FLOOR ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE, REPLACED THE COWL PANEL AND RAIN HAT. THE REPAIR WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AND WATER WAS ON THE FLOOR AGAIN AFTER IT RAINED. THE DEALER STATED THAT A WATER STAIN CAME FROM THE AIR CONDITIONER. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE DASHBOARD, THE PAD ON THE WIRE FALL AND RE-SEAL ITEMS AROUND THE HEATER BOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DUE TO THE MANUFACTURERS DEFECT, THE REPAIR WOULD NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY OF THE REPAIR COSTS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 75,100.
INTERMITTENTLY THROTTLE WILL KEEP RISING AND THE CAR WILL NOT STOP UNLESS SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND ACCELERATION PEDAL PUSHED TO DISLODGE STUCK THROTTLE. BRAKES WILL NOT STOP THROTTLE FROM RISING UNLESS STEPS ABOVE FOLLOWED. FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED, I HAD TO FIGHT THE ACCELERATION WITH THE BRAKES CAUSING MY ENGINE TO SMELL LIKE BURNT RUBBER UNTIL I FIGURED OUT THE TRICK OF TAPING THE ACCELERATION PEDAL WHEN IN NEUTRAL. *JS
THE CAR ACCELERATES WITHOUT ANY CONTACT WITH THE GAS PEDAL. THIS OCCURS WHILE DRIVING WHICH MAKES STOPPING MORE DIFFICULT (I HAVE NEVER NOTICED IT OCCUR WHILE IN PARK). I DID TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC WHO LOOKED THE CAR OVER; HE DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING OBVIOUSLY WRONG, BUT GUESSED IT WAS THE CRUISE CONTROL AND DISCONNECTED IT. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AT ALL, AS IT STILL ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN. WHEN IT HAPPENS I KEEP TAPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL UNTIL IT STOPS ACCELERATING, WHICH IS EFFECTIVE. IT IS VERY UNSAFE - IT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SO LONG I INSTINCTIVELY KEEP MY EYE ON THE TACHOMETER TO CATCH THE ACCELERATION AS SOON AS IT STARTS. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FORD TAURUS THAT IS LEAKING WATER INTO THE FRONT PASSENGER FLOOR. I NOTICE THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF THIS NATURE. WHEN TAKING THE CAR TO BRIGHTON FORD DEALER (TOM HOLZER); THEY REFUSED TO EVEN ATTEMPT TO REPAIR. THIS SHOULD BE FIXED AT THE MANUFACTURER'S EXPENSE. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ABOUT TO PULL IN TO MY OFFICE PARKING LOT. I PULLED MY FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR SO THAT COAST INTO THE PARKING LOT WHEN I NOTICED THE CAR INCREASING IN SPEED INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN. I HAD TO BRAKE HARD JUST TO KEEP THE CAR UNDER CONTROL, BUT IT WAS GOING MUCH FASTER THAN IT SHOULD IN A PARKING LOT. AS I TRIED TO PARK, THE RPMS INCREASED TO DANGEROUS LEVELS. I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND THE RPMS WERE STILL VERY VERY HIGH. I THEN SHUT THE CAR OFF. I FELT SCARED AND GRATEFUL THAT I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THE SAME MORNING, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER - THINKING I MIGHT HAVE TO TOW IT, BUT IT STARTED AND THE RPMS SEEMED OKAY. I GOT HALFWAY TO THE DEALER AND IT BEGAN TO DO IT AGAIN AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN AN OPEN ROAD. I DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT I TAPPED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE RPMS RETURNED TO NORMAL. I DESCRIBED ALL OF THIS TO THE DEALER. THEY WORKED ON IT AND COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. IT ACTED UP FOR THEM ALSO. I PICKED THE CAR UP THAT AFTERNOON WITH NO OTHER SOLUTION OTHER THAN TO TAP THE ACCELERATOR TO GET IT TO STOP. STUPIDLY, I DROVE IT FOR WEEKS THIS WAY BEFORE I FOUND MY OWN SOLUTION. MY CRUISE CONTROL ALSO STOPPED WORKING. THE PROBLEM IS MECHANICAL, I HAD MY WIFE PUSH THE GAS WHILE THE CAR WAS IN PARK SO THAT I COULD SEE WHAT WAS ACTUALLY MOVING UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR. I FOUND SOME LITTLE CONTROL DEVICE (FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD) THAT WAS STICKING. A BALL AND JOINT ON THE DEVICE WOULD GET DISCONNECTED FROM THE ACTION HAPPENING WHEN YOU PRESS THE GAS AND CAUSE THE RMPS TO SPIKE. I SIMPLY SECURED THE BALL AND JOINT CONNECTION WITH WIRE FISHING LEADER FROM MY TACKLE BOX. NO PROBLEMS IN ALMOST 1 YEAR. I DIDN'T THINK MORE OF IT UNTIL ALL OF THE NEWS ABOUT TOYOTA. NOT SURE ABOUT THE DATE. - ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO.
OUR FRONT LEFT TIRE LITERALLY EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MILES PER HOUR. IT LOOKS LIKE A BOMB HAD EXPLODED INSIDE IT. WE HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE - THIS TYPE OF CATASTROPHIC FAILURE IN A TIRE. THE COMPANY IS CONTINENTAL AND THE TIRE SIZE IS P215.60R16 94T (FOR A MID SIZE CAR) AND ON THE LOWER SIDE IT HAS TOURING CONTACT AS. THIS IS A BRAND THAT WE HAVE NEVER PURCHASED BEFORE - IT WAS ON THE CAR WHEN PURCHASED AS A USED CAR (1 YEAR OLD). WE THANK GOD THIS DID NOT RESULT IN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT, CONSIDERING THE SPEED AND LOCATION IT HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE THEN ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AS THE ENGINE RPMS RAPIDLY INCREASED. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE EXTREME FORCE ON THE BRAKES IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ONE WEEK LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO THEN REPAIRED THE VEHICLE BY REPLACING THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,740. UPDATED 5/21/12 *BF

AFTER DEPRESSING THE BRAKES TO NO AVAIL, THE CONTACT TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY ADVISED HER THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE COULD HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS DISCONNECTED. COWL LEAK ON 2006 FORD TAURUS WHICH ALLOWS WATER LEAK IN ON PASSENGER SIDE TO CONTACT ELECTRICAL PARTS INCLUDING HVAC BLOWER MOTOR AND RESISTOR. BLOWER CAN STOP WORKING AND IF WINDOWS ARE FOGGED OR NEED TO BE DEFROSTED IT CREATES A VERY HAZARDOUS CONDITION IMPOSSIBLE TO CORRECT. I AM TOLD BY DEALERSHIPS THIS IS VERY COMMON WITH THE TAURUS'. IF IT IS SO COMMON WHY DON'T THEY (FORD) PUBLICIZE THIS OR TELL YOU THIS BEFORE YOU BUY A TAURUS? THIS HAS BEEN REPAIRED TWICE ON MY CAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE CONTACT REPLACE THE STRUTS. THE VIN AND DOT NUMBER WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,000.

INCIDENT HAPPENS EVERYTIME I DRIVE MY VEHICLE. I CAN REPRODUCE THIS AT ANYTIME. WHEN I AM USING THE ACCELERATOR. I EASE OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR OR RELEASE IT COMPLETELY AND THE THE CAR GOES FASTER. THE ACCELERATOR WITH PUSH IT SELF IN. IN ORDER TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN I HAVE TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR. (I HAVE TO SPEED UP TO SLOW DOWN). ANOTHER WORK AROUND IS SHIFTING THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL THEN BRAKING. (WHEN USING THIS METHOD OF SHIFTING THE CAR TO NEUTRAL I NOTICE MY RPM LEVEL JUMP FROM 1-2 RPM TO 3-5 RPMS).
