ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN OFF AND ON FOR YEARS. HAVE HAD THE BRAKES LOOKED AT MANY TIMES AND THEY ARE ALWAYS SAID TO BE FINE. TODAY, WHILE DRIVING ALONG, THE RADIO WENT OFF WHEN I ROLLED UP THE WINDOW...THOUGHT THAT WAS STRANGE SO OPENED WINDOW....RADIO BACK ON, CLOSED WINDOW....RADIO OFF. THANKFULLY I WAS VERY CLOSE TO HOME AS THE WINDOWS STOPPED OPENING AND CLOSING, RADIO SHUT OFF, ODOMETER READING DISAPPEARED, CLOCK LIGHTS DISAPPEARED. I MADE IT TO THE DRIVEWAY, TURNED IT OFF AND IT DID NOT TURN BACK ON. CAME INSIDE AND STARTED TO SEARCH "2001 FORD WINDSTAR ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ON"......I'M APPALLED AT HOW MANY COMPLAINTS I HAVE FOUND. HUSBAND AND FRIEND DID A CHECK AND IT MAY BE THE ALTERNATOR....BUT AFTER WHAT I'VE READ WE WILL DEFINITELY BE CHECKING FOR FLUID IN THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. IF IT TURNS OUT IT IS THE ABS CONTROL MODULE (AFTER READING THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS) I WILL BE CALLING FORD TO LET THEM KNOW WHAT I THINK. FOR MANY, MANY YEARS WE LET FORD SERVICE OUR VAN AND I SWEAR AFTER EACH SERVICE WE ENDED UP WITH ANOTHER PROBLEM WITHIN WEEKS OF THE SERVICE. I'VE NOT HAD TRUST IN OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP FOR A LONG TIME. BASED ON WHAT I'VE READ IN THE LAST 2 TO 3 HOURS I AM COMPLETELY SHOCKED AND SADDENED THAT FORD HASN'T STEPPED UP AND OFFERED TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM. I LOVE MY WINDSTAR! AS LONG AS WE CAN BE CERTAIN THAT IT IS STILL SAFE TO DRIVE WE WILL KEEP IT ON THE ROAD. BUT WHEN IT IS TIME.....WE WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH FORD AGAIN. *TR
JUST DRIVING THE VAN AND IT SHOWS CHECK TRACTION CONTROL AND MY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON AND TRACTION CONTROL OFF. IT KEEPS RECURRING AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO TO FIX IT. IF I PULL OVER ON THE SIDE ROAD AND SHUT OFF THE KEY AND WAIT A MINUTE AND START IT BACK UP THE LIGHTS AND ALL GO AWAY FOR A BIT. IF I DRIVE IT WITH LIGHTS ON AND THE CHECK TRACTION CONTROL ON IT SMELLS LIKE SOMETHING IS BURNING. SO I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND SHUT IT OFF ALL THE TIME UNTIL THE LIGHTS ARE GONE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V195000 (SUSPENSION) AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE REAR AXLE ON THE VEHICLE WAS CRACKED, CORRODED AND WOULD MAKE LOUD BANGING NOISES WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,000.
THIS 2001 FORD WINDSTAR MINIVAN WAS TOWED TO A GARAGE FOR UNRELATED MALFUNCTION (OVERHEATING). MECHANIC TOLD US THAT THE REAR AXLE HAD A HOLE IN IT AND WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THIS MINIVAN HAD BEEN SERVICED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR A RECALL FOR A POSSIBLE CRACK IN THE REAR AXLE AND RECHECKED SHORTLY BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. OBVIOUSLY THE RECALL DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM THIS WAS THE SECOND MINIVAN TO WHICH WE HAD THIS HAPPEN. THE OTHER WAS A 1998 FORD WINDSTAR. WE WERE TOLD IN JANUARY 2013 THAT THIS REAR AXLE WAS CRACKED AND UNDRIVEABLE. THIS VEHICLE TOO HAD BEEN RECALLED AND TAKEN IN. WE HAD THE 2001 MINIVAN CHECKED IN JANUARY BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE 1998 AND IT WAS STILL FOUND TO BE CRACKED IN MARCH. *TR
PASSAGE SIDE SUB FRAME IS RUSTED, ALMOST BROKEN. *TR
THE SAME PART INDICATED IN RECALL IS BAD, MY VAN NEEDS FIX. THE RECALL DOESN'T COVER MY PART OR REPAIR BECAUSE MY VIN ISN'T SHOWING ANY RECALLS. WHEN THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED TO ME INDICATED IN THE RECALL. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO? *TR
STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, PRESSED THE GAS AND NOTHING HAPPENED AS IF THE VAN HAD BEEN PUT IN NEUTRAL. THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. NONE OF THE GEARS WILL ENGAGE. THROUGH MY OWN RESEARCH I'VE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH THE FORD WINDSTAR TRANSMISSION AND STILL NO RECALL. THE COMPANY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. THEY WILL FIX A SMALL INEXPENSIVE CENSOR BUT NOT THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 12V195000 (SUSPENSION) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. ON A LATER DATE WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE REAR AXLE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE RECALL REPLACEMENT HAD NEVER BEEN COMPLETED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 163,000.
RECENTLY ACQUIRED BY THE CAR DEALER 2001 FORD WINDSTAR, I TOOK IT TO A MACHINE SHOP TO CHECK ON THE CONDITIONS THAT HE WAS ONCE REPLACED THE BULBS BURN FRONT INFORMATION PANEL OF THE DRIVER'S CAB STAYED LIT INFORMATIVE SIGNALS "ABS" "BRAKER" IDENTIFYING A PROBLEM IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM I WANT TO KNOW HOW I CAN MAKE A COMPLAINT TO THE COMPANY FOR THIS DEFECT BASED ON INFORMATION YOU READ RIGHT THROUGH THE INTERNET. *TR

STOPPED TO GET MY OIL CHANGED, THEY SHOWED ME WHERE THE ENTIRE RIGHT FRONT SUBFRAME HAS RUSTED AWAY MAKING MY WINDSTAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL WITH OF THESE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE RIGHT FRONT. THIS CAN CAUSE YOU TO LOOSE STEERING CONTROL OR IN AN EXTREME THE ENGINE TO FALL OUT GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, FORD RECALLED THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE REAR AXEL,,WHY NOT FIX THE FRONT ALSO. I LIVE IN ARKANSAN BUT BOUGHT THE WINDSTORM FROM A PERSON IN MISSOURI WHERE I SEE FORD LIST AS A STATE WITH A RUST PROBLEM BUT DOING NOTHING TO FIX IT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER HAVING REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V195000 (SUSPENSION) HE NOTICED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS CORRODED AND A CRACKED HAD DEVELOPED WHERE THE REINFORCEMENT BRACKETS WERE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 144,000. *TR

ABS WARNING LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING ONTO THE WIRING HARNESS AND CAUSED A SHORTAGE WITH THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND THE RADIO. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V399000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL), WHICH THE DEALER INSTALLED A CONNECTOR TO THE BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH BUT THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE DEALER DID NOT INCLUDE THE FUSED WIRING HARNESS IN LINE WITH THE SCDS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HIS HOME, HE INSTALLED A NUMBER 10 FUSE HOWEVER, THE CONNECTOR WAS STILL FAULTY AND CAUSED SMOKE TO EMIT FROM THE WIRING HARNESS. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED, WHO ADVISED THAT THEY HAD PERFORMED THE REQUIRED RECALL REPAIR BUT COULD PROVIDE NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,153.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN UNKNOWN FLUID LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE ABS MODULE AND BRAKE BOOSTER WERE DEFECTIVE WHICH CAUSED A BRAKE FLUID LEAK. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS MODULE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,850.
INTERMITTENT INCREASE IN BRAKING DISTANCE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. DUE TO ABS SYSTEM FAILURE RELATED TO THE ECM CONTROL UNIT. INDICATOR AT TIME OF FAILURE "YELLOW ABS BRAKE LIGHT" AND "RED BRAKE LIGHT" ON DASHBOARD OF VEHICLE. RESULTING IN INTERMENT OPERATING OF ABS SYSTEM. THIS BECOMES A LARGE DRIVING HAZARD WHEN OPERATING THE VEHICLE DURING WINTER MONTHS WHEN ROADWAY IS OFTEN COVERED IN WET, SNOW AND ICE. THESE ROAD CONDITIONS ARE TYPICAL FOR MY WINTER DRIVING MONTHS IN THE CLIMATE AND AREA OF VEHICLE PURCHASED AND OPERATED. THE CAUSE OF THIS ABS SYSTEM FAILURE IS RELATED TO THE ECM CONTROL UNIT. ROOT CAUSE IS IDENTIFIED AS FAILURE OF CIRCUIT BOARD SOLDER JOINTS WITH IN THE ECM UNIT, DEACTIVATING ABS SYSTEM. POOR QUALITY OF CONNECTIONS, HEAT AND STRESS , NOT ROBUST ENOUGH FOR APPLICATION. NEED TO HAVE THESE QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE ISSUE RESOLVED BY THE OEM. *TR
ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS INDICATES A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM OF FAILURE OF THE ECM MODULE THAT CONTROLS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM A QUICK FIX IS TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, TURN OFF THE ENGINE, AND THEN RESTART IT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY FORD WINDSTARS. *TR
AFTER REPAIRING MY SPEED CONTROLLER MY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN COMING ON THE DASHBOARD INTERMITTENTLY AND ARE COMING ON MORE AND MORE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND NO CODES SHOW UP,BUT I DO NOT TRUST IT . *TR
I HEARD LOUD CLUNKING SOUNDS IN THE FRONT THAT WERE MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN I WENT OVER BUMPS. THE SWAY BAR HAS BROKEN OFF FROM THE FRONT SUB-FRAME PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. THE DEALER SAID THE SUB-FRAME IS SO RUSTED THAT THE ONLY WAY TO REATTACH THE SWAY BAR IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FRONT SUB-FRAME AT A COST OF $3,500. IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER PREVIOUS RECALLS, SINCE THE PRIOR 2 RECALLS IN 2010 AND 2011 ONLY SPECIFICALLY COVERED THE REAR AXLE AND THE SEPARATION OF THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS ATTACHING BRACKETS AND BODY MOUNT ATTACHMENTS AT THE REAR OF THE FRONT SUB-FRAME. THIS PROBLEM IS SO SIMILAR TO THE JAN. 2011 RECALL W/A PART BREAKING OFF FROM A RUSTED SUB-FRAME. IT'S THE CORROSION OF THE SUB-FRAME THAT IS AT THE ROOT OF THESE PROBLEMS. THEY SHOULD HAVE JUST REPLACED THE SUB-FRAME AT THAT TIME INSTEAD OF DOING A PATCH JOB W/ BRACKETS. THE DEALER DEEMED MY CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE, AS I WON'T HAVE CONTROL OF MY CAR ON QUICK TURNS OR BE ABLE TO MAKE FAST MANEUVERS IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT OR TO AVOID POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS. ANOTHER RISK IS THAT MY ENGINE MAY FALL OUT THE BOTTOM OF MY CAR WHILE DRIVING (WHICH I SEE HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS WITH MY SAME PROBLEM), ENDANGERING MY FAMILY AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD. I PLAN ON PARKING THIS CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY AND WAITING FOR FORD TO BE FORCED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES. IN THE MEANTIME, IF ANY OF YOU HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM, PLEASE REPORT THEM TO FORD CORPORATION AND THE NHTSA, SO WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE AN INEVITABLE RECALL WILL BE EXPEDITED. EVEN THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REP ENCOURAGED ME TO FILE A REPORT WITH THE NHTSA BECAUSE SHE HAS GOTTEN CALLS WITH OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. SHE WAS VERY SYMPATHETIC TO MY SITUATION BUT SAID THERE IS NOTHING SHE CAN DO UNTIL ENOUGH COMPLAINTS GET FILED WITH THE NHTSA SO THEY OPEN AN INVESTIGATION. WHAT HAPPENED TO COMPANIES WANTING TO HELP THEIR CUSTOMERS W/O BEING FORCED BY A GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY?! *TR
I TOOK THE VAN IN FOR SERVICE AND I WAS TOLD THE RIGHT FRONT SWAY BAR COULD NOT BE RE-ATTACHED BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE RUST . MY MECHANIC MENTIONED HE THOUGHT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS BUT I NEVER RECEIVED ONE. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT NOW? *TR
THE REAR AXLE, IS RUSTED AND SNAPPED LITERALLY RIGHT IN HALF WHILE DRIVING WITH MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN! WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH NOT TO HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT OR IN AN ACCIDENT! *TR
MY ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER. WAITED FOR THE CAR TO COOL DOWN. LIGHT DIDN'T GOOD AWAY. I HAVE ALREADY GOTTEN THE RECALL FOR CRUISE CONTROL DONE. I TESTED AND THE ABS SYSTEM IS DEFINITELY NOT WORKING. LUCKILY, I GREW UP WITHOUT ABS, AND KNOW TO PUMP THE BRAKES. I AM GETTING THE C1185 DTC. *TR

THE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) DASH LIGHT TURN ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY AND WILL REMAIN ON UNTIL THE VAN IS TURNED OFF. UPON STARTING THE VAN THE LIGHTS WILL BE OFF. I HAVE HAD THE VAN BRAKES INSPECTED AND SERVICED TO INCLUDE A COMPLETE INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM WITH THE REMOVAL OF THE MASTER CYLINDER AND SYSTEM FLUSH. TECHNICIANS CANNOT FIND A REASON WHY THERE IS AN INTERMITTENT BRAKE SYSTEM AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS TURNING ON AND OFF. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH IN SNOWY CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLIDE AND VEER TO THE LEFT. THE CONTACT MOVED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT AXLE HAD FAILED AND THE PASSENGER FRONT TIRE WAS LEANING INWARD IN THE WHEEL WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V194000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
I TOOK MY VAN IN FOR THE 11S16 RECALL AND NOW PROBLEMS ARE TAKING PLACE AFTERWARDS. I GOT MY VAN BACK AND NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND COOLANT IS LEAKING EVERYWHERE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN, THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO DRIVE FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AND A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY COMING ON. TOOK TO THE GARAGE AND THEY TELL ME IT'S THE ABS MODULE AND COST IS NEARLY $1000 TO REPAIR. I LOOKED IT UP ON THE INTERNET AND THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR MODEL WHICH TELLS ME THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THAT PART. I CAN'T AFFORD THAT RIGHT NOW. THE GARAGE TOLD ME THE VAN WILL RUN WITH NO PROBLEMS, ONLY WHEN THOSE LIGHTS COME ON, THE ABS SYSTEM WILL BE DISABLED. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A RECALL ITEM BECAUSE THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THAT PARTICULAR PART. THERE HAS TO BE A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM WITH IT FOR IT TO BE SO COMMON. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE FRONT PORTION OF THE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V030000 (STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS:UNDERBODY SHIELDS); HOWEVER THE VIN WAS INELIGIBLE. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ORIGINALLY SOLD OR REGISTERED IN THE STATES MENTIONED IN THE RECALL DEFECT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
STOPPING AT RED LIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS CAUSE ABS TO MAKE NOISE AND KEEP YOU FROM COMING TO A STOP WITH OUT PUMPING BRAKES HAVE TRIED NEW BRAKES AND BLEEDING OF BRAKES AND NEW ALL AROUND CALIPERS AND OTHER BRAKE PARTS AND STILL HAVING THE SAME EFFECT. *TR
JUST 18-MONTHS AFTER THE FORD WINDSTAR SAFETY RECALL REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, THE FRONT SUB-FRAME OF MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR CRACKED RESULTING IN LOSS OF STABILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN MIDLAND MICHIGAN. IT WAS DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER AND REPAIR TECHNICIAN. *TR
ABS ECM FAILURE - ABS BRAKE LIGHT ON (INTERMITTENTLY) AS WELL AS THE BRAKE LIGHT (INTERMITTENTLY) AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (PERMANENTLY). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN, A LOUD ABNORMAL THUMP NOISE EMITTED FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WAS TILTED INWARD. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD RECENTLY BEEN REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V195000 (SUSPENSION).THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
AS MENTIONED ON THE HTTP://WWW.FORDWINDSTARRECALL.INFO/ WEBSITE, WE SEEM TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM: 6/25/12 - ANOTHER RECALL EFFORT IS IN THE WORKS. THE (MOSTLY UNSERVICABLE) ECU MASTER RELAY HAS A BAD SOLDIER JOINT WHICH FAILS PREMATURELY AND CAUSES THE ABS LIGHT AND DTC C1185. IT ALSO CAUSES THE ENHANCED ABS BRAKING SYSTEM TO BECOME INOPERABLE. IF YOUR ABS LIGHT IS ON. REPORT THE PROBLEM AT NHTSA - SAFERCAR.GOV. USE THE CATEGORY BRAKES, THE MORE REPORTS THE BETTER A CHANCE OF CONTINUED ACTION. *TR
MY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CONTINUALLY COME ON AND OFF AND SEEMS LIKE A FAULTY ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRONICS, BUT IT RENDERS THE ABS ENTIRELY USELESS WHEN ON. I HAVE ASKED AROUND IF THERE WAS AN OFFICIAL RECALL AS THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE AND WAS DIRECTED TO REPORT THIS ON THIS SITE. I RECENTLY HAD THE CODES SCANNED SPECIFICALLY AND THERE WERE SO MANY TRIGGERED IT WAS RIDICULOUS. I WAS TOLD THAT IT'S A FAULTY ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL AND A REPAIR WOULD COST IN THE THOUSANDS. IT SURE SEEMS LIKE FORD WOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THIS FAULTY SAFETY ISSUE. SOMETIMES THE LIGHT IS ON WHEN I START THE VAN, SOMETIMES IT COMES ON AFTER A DRIVE FOR A LITTLE, BUT ONCE IT'S ON IT STAYS ON UNTIL THE VAN IS STOPPED AND SHUT OFF. I'VE READ THAT IT COULD DEAL WITH THE HEAT AND/OR CORROSION ISSUE OF EXPANDING ALUMINUM PLATE. BASED ON THE INCONSISTENCY OF THE LIGHT IT WOULD APPEAR THAT AT TIMES THE COMPUTER AND ABS IS WORKING WHEN IN COOLER SITUATIONS. IT'S BEEN HAPPENING FOR A WHILE NOW BUT IS SOMETHING I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT DOESN'T IMPACT MAIN BRAKING SO IT'S HARD TO JUSTIFY THE COST OF FIXING AN ELECTRONIC PIECE... IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS THAT I WAS NOT NOTIFIED ABOUT BEING THE SECOND OWNER? I PICKED A RANDOM DATE FOR THE 'WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN' AS I'M UNSURE HOW LONG IT'S BEEN OCCURRING BUT WAS AN ISSUE WITH MY DAD BEFORE WE PURCHASED FROM HIM.

I TOOK MY VEHICLE FOR A RECALL FOR THE REAR AXLE A YEAR AGO AND THEY SPRAYED SOME SEALER ON IT AND SAID IT WAS GOOD TO GO. SO NOW THE AXLE IS CRACKED, AND READY TO SNAP. WHAT SHOULD I DO? CANNOT GET THE ABS WARNING BRAKE LIGHT TO STAY RESET AND/OR FIX. STAYS ON AND CANNOT DIAGNOSE. *TR
ABS BRAKE LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHTS TURN ON,USUALLY ON WARM DAYS, SOME TIMES NOT FOR DAYS, SOME TIMES ON ALL THE TIME. THE FORD DEALER ASSURES ME THE BRAKES ARE WORKING, BUT THE ABS MODULE IS NOT FUNCTIONING. ALL THE SENSORS SEEM TO WORK, BUT THE SYSTEM ITSELF DOES NOT WORK. MAKING A LEFT TURN, HEARD A LOUD BANG. THE SWAY BAR LINK CAME LOOSE ATTACHED TO A CHUNK OF RUSTED METAL FROM THE SUBFRAME. THE SWAY BAR AND LINK ARE FINE. IT IS A PART OF THE SUBFRAME WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THAT CAME OFF. THERE IS NO WAY TO REATTACH THE SWAY BAR AS THE WHOLE SECTION WHERE IT ATTACHES TO SUBFRAME IS RUSTED. CALLED FORD DEALER IN ITHACA, THIS IS NOT COVERED BY THEIR RECALLS. *TR
A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER THE SUB-FRAME RECALL (N99 11S16) WORK WAS DONE BOTH THE 'ABS' AND 'BRAKE' LIGHTS CAME ON FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN WENT OFF AGAIN FOR A FEW WEEKS. THE FREQUENCY OF THIS OCCURRENCE HAS ACCELERATED, OVER TIME, AND NOW THESE TWO LIGHTS ARE ON ABOUT 60% OF TIME. *TR

I WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN I WENT AROUND A CORNER I HEARD A THUMP IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF MY WINDSTAR, THE FOLLOWING MORNING I TOOK IT INTO MY MECHANIC. HE LOOKED THE VEHICLE OVER AND TOLD ME THE SUB FRAME HAS RUSTED OUT WHERE THE STABILIZER BAR CONNECTS. THIS ISSUE WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED BY FORD THE PREVIOUS YEAR WHEN THEY HAD IT IN FOR THE REAR AXLE RECALL. I FIND FORD HAD MADE THE DECISION TO PUT SOME USELESS BRACKETS IN AND NOT REPLACE THE SUB-FRAME. I CALLED CUSTOMER CARE CONCERNING THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS ONLY A YEAR WARRANTY ON THE WORK SO THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AS I HAD PICKED UP THE VAN END OF APRIL /BEGINNING OF MAY 2011. A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM AND QUITE EVIDENTLY THEIR FIX WITH SOME LITTLE BRACKETS DID NOT REPAIR THE ISSUE, I AM NOT SURE HOW SOME BRACKETS ARE SUPPOSE TO CORRECT A RUSTING OUT SUB FRAME TO BEGIN WITH. *TR
TODAY RETURNING HOME FROM WISCONSIN ME AND MY FAMILY WAS ALMOST KILLED, IT WAS A 4 HR DRIVE OF TOLLWAYS OF SPEEDS OF 65-70, WHEN WE WERE COMING TO A RURAL STOP( THANK GOD) WHEN WE HEARD A LOUD THUD AND SMOKE, LOST CONTROL OF VAN, PULLED VAN TO SHOULDER WHERE UPON EXAMINATION OF VAN SEEN REAR AXLE SPLIT IN HALF...THANK GOD WE JUST GOT OFF TOLLWAY- OF 70 MPH DRIVING, HAD 2 KIDS IN CAR, AND MY BROTHER, STRANDED MILES FROM HOME....ALL THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE TAKING OFF THE ROADS B4 MORE PEOPLE ARE HURT OR KILLED I AM STILL UPSET OVER THE INCIDENT OF CHEATING DEATH, AND HOPE THIS DON'T HAPPEN TO ANY BODY ELSE... *TR
