WHILE DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF THIRD GEAR. I AM TOLD THAT A WAVE PLATE HAS FAILED AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, COST $3000+. *TR
THREE TIMES IN ONE DAY MY ACADIA GMC 2008, STEERING REFUSED TO RESPOND CORRECTLY. EACH OF THE TREE TIMES IT REFUSED TO STEER. CAR ON NO OTHER TIME HAS SHOWN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE NOW. BUT ONLY PURCHASED USED CAR THREE MONTHS AGO. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CAR THAT IS NOT BEING HANDLED UNDER A RECALL. STEERING BOX AND POWER STEERING PUMP ON CAR SEEM VERY UNDERPOWERED. ON THE THREE TIMES IT HAPPENED ON 3/20/2014 TWO WHERE ON HIGHWAY DRIVING CONDITIONS IN WHICH I WAS ON AN ON RAMP ATTEMPTING TO NAVIGATE A CIRCLE ON RAMP IN WHICH I ALMOST HAD TO STOP CAR TO PREVENT IT FROM RUNNING OFF ROAD DO TO LACK OF POWER ON TURN. ON ANOTHER I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PERFORM A U-TURN IN WHICH I ALMOST HIT A CUB. U TURN SHOULD HAVE BEEN EASY DO TO THE FACT I HAD THREE LANES TO PERFORM THE TURN. IN THIS CASE I CAME EXTREMELY CLOSE TO CURB AND CLOSE TO DAMAGING CAR DUE TO IMPACT WITH 8 INCH CURB. ALL THREE EVENTS CAME ON SAME TRIP! *TR
MY 2008 GMC ACADIA GAVE ME THE SCARE OF MY LIFE. I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE JUST LAST MONTH AND WAS VERY PROUD, I HAVE BEEN DREAMING OF THIS CAR FOR A WHILE. HOWEVER WHILE TRAVELING TO MY SONS TRACK MEET MY ACADIA STARTED JERKING AS IF IT WAS NOT GETTING ANY GAS AND THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A LOUD HUMMING OR BUZZING NOISES ON FARM MARKET 521. THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 25 MILES. DESPITE MY CONTINUING TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL. I ENDED UP JERKING MY WAY ONWARD WITH MY HAZARDS ON. I HAD CARS SCREECHING AND FLYING AROUND ME. MY KIDS AND I ARE A NERVOUS WRECK. THE 521 DOES NOT HAVE A SHOULDER TO PULL OFF ON. MILES LATER VARYING SPEEDS AS LOW AS 15 AND UP TO 35 MPH I FOUND A GAS STATION (THANK GOD) & PULLED OVER. I POWERED DOWN WAITED A FEW MINUTES THEN RESTARTED THE CAR. IT STARTED NORMALLY BUT I NOTICED I COULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE WHILE TRYING TO LEAVE THE PARKING LOT. I MADE MY WAY FORWARD ALL SEEMED WELL BUT 3-4 MINUTES INTO DRIVING ON 521 THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. I STARTED TO PANIC I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME HERE & THE 521 IS THE ONLY MAJOR ROAD ON MY GPS. I PUT-PUTTED ALONG AND FINALLY MADE IT TO THE TRACK MEET IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. CALLED MY HUSBAND TO COME AND CHECK THE CAR. AFTER HIS LOOK AROUND HE THINKS MY TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT. HE TOOK THE CHILDREN IN THE SUBURBAN WHILE I DROVE SLOWLY AHEAD. THEN I GET A NEW MESSAGE - ENGINE HOT IDLE SOMETHING - I FREAK OUT AND PULL OFF AS SOON AS I COULD. HE ENDED UP TOWING ME HOME. I AM ONE WEEK PAST THE 30 DAY WARRANTY THIS SUCKS. I REALLY LOVE MY ACADIA & AM VERY POSSESSIVE OF HER, NO ONE ELSE CAN DRIVE HER, I DON'T WANT MY KIDS TO TOUCH HER. I TAKE EXCELLENT CARE OF HER, SHE IS CLEAN, DRIVEN WITH LOVE, BUT JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED. I'M SCHEDULING TO TAKE HER TO THE SHOP IN THE MORNING, HUSBANDS MAD BUT I'M HOPING THIS CAN BE RESOLVED QUICKLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ACADIA. IN RAINY CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE LEAKED WATER FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW, SUN ROOF, AND THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SMELLED MOLD INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 164,500.
RIGHT HEADLIGHT GASKET AROUND DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT OVERHEATED AND MELTED HEADLIGHT CASING CAUSING ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY TO NEED TO BE REPLACED. DID NOT DISCOVER UNTIL REALIZING DAYTIME LIGHT WAS NOT COMING ON. UNSURE OF HOW LONG THE ISSUE HAD BEEN GOING ON. *TR
STOPPED AT LIGHT, EMERGENCY STABILITRAK MESSAGE FLASHED, STABILITRAK LIGHT CAM ON, THEN THE DING, DING, DING THEN THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON, THEN ANOTHER MESSAGE: WARNING SERVICE BREAKS. A FEW SECONDS LATER THE BRAKE WARNING WENT AWAY, THE STABILITRAK LIGHT STAYED ON. I PULLED OVER, STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, AND THE STABILITRAK LIGHT TURNED OFF. NO OTHER ISSUES IN FRIVING THIS DAY. THE NEXT MORNING SAME ISSUE, ABOUT 3 MILES OF DRIVING, STOPPED AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT, THEN THE DING, DING, DING...THEN THE STABILITRAK MESSAGE AND THEN THE : WARNING SERVICE BREAKS MESSAGE. *TR
RECEIVED 'SERVICE AIR BAG' WARNING FROM THE DASHBOARD DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER. PASSENGER AIR BAG INDICATOR ON CENTER CONSOLE INDICATES 'OFF' WHEN 160 LB PERSON IS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. *TR
CAR LOSES POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY AT LOW SPEEDS, SUCH AS IN PARKING LOTS. THE ISSUE ONLY LAST A FEW SECONDS, THEN RETURNS TO NORMAL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED HOWEVER THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS SCHEDULED TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
WIPERS ARE INOPERATIVE. LINKAGE CAME OFF WIPER MOTOR. BROUGHT TO PLACE OF PURCHASE AND THEY SAID THE PART MAY HAVE BEEN RECALLED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING CAR BUCKED AND SHIFTED IRREGULARLY, TRANSMISSION SLIPPED, NO POWER, NO REVERSE. *TR
DRIVING THE VEHICLE THAT HAD 7 PEOPLE. I TURNED ONTO A STREET IN TOWN AND THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. SO I TURNED TO HEAD TO THE NEAREST PARKING LOT. STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND AGAIN THE VEHICLE SHOOK FROM A TAKE OFF. DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT INTO THE DRIVEWAY BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BUSY INTERSECTION AND WE HAD TO PUSH IT INTO THE PARKING LOT. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING A BUSY HIGHWAY GOING UPHILL, MY TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO HAVE WHAT FELT LIKE SLIPPING CLUTCH ISSUES, AND FINALLY FAILED - LEAVING ME STRANDED ON A VERY BUSY STRETCH OF HIGHWAY 80 EAST BOUND. IT WAS VERY SCARY TO BE JUST BARELY OFF THE ROADWAY (WAS LUCKY TO MAKE IT ALL THE WAY OFF THE ROAD) WITH HUGE TRUCKS WHIZZING BY. I HAVE HAD IT DIAGNOSED AND THE CLUTCH WAVEPLATES ON THESE ACADIA GMCS HAVE A WELL KNOWN AND COMMON FAILURE ISSUE. A $3500 BILL IS NOT WHAT I NEED RIGHT NOW, IT'S GOING TO REALLY HURT. THIS TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED ON A BUSY FREEWAY. THE PROBLEM IS THERE WAS NOT MUCH WARNING OF AN EMINENT FAILURE BEFORE IT BASICALLY LEFT ME DEAD IN THE WATER - I WAS JUST FORTUNATE THIS TIME THAT I WAS TRAVELING IN THE RIGHT LANE. IF I HAD BEEN IN THE LEFT LANE OR MIDDLE, I AM NOT SURE I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET OVER BEFORE IT WOULD JUST LEAVE ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IT'S DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. WHO COULD MAKE AN ARGUMENT THAT IT IS NOT UNSAFE? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CLUTCH HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. UPDATED 5/27/14*CN
I BOUGHT MY 2008 ACADIA IN OCTOBER 2013. IN FEBRUARY, THE CHECK AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH. I TOOK THE ACADIA TO GLYNN SMITH, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD A FAULTY DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG AND AIRBAG SWITCH. I PAID $717.70 FOR THE NEW AIRBAG AND NEW AIRBAG SWITCH. SOON AFTER, GMC STARTED DOING THE RECALLS ON THE AIRBAGS. MY ACADIA IS NOT ONE OF THE LISTED RECALLED VEHICLES. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS. IT IS NOW THE END OF JULY, AND THE CHECK AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AGAIN. I HAVE BEEN BACK TO GLYNN SMITH AND IT IS THE SAME CODE THIS TIME. I HAVE ANOTHER FAULTY DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG AND AIRBAG SWITCH. GMC NEEDS TO RECALL EVERY 2008 ACADIA. I HAVE ALSO BEEN DEALING WITH PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING. ONE DAY DRIVING, I STARTED TO MAKE A TURN, AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. IT WAS LIKE TURNING A REALLY OLD MODEL CAR THAT HAD NO POWER STEERING. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES TODAY. GMC TELLS ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE POWER STEERING. THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM, YET I KNOW FOR SURE SOMETHING IS WRONG. THE 2008 GMC ACADIA IS NOT A SAFE CAR. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN, AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING WITH THEM AND THE CHECK AIRBAG LIGHT STILL ON. MY FAMILY IS VERY UPSET WITH GMC AS A COMPANY!! SAFETY SHOULD BE THE MAIN CONCERN BEFORE SELLING ANY VEHICLE. I SEE THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIR ACADIA. I THINK THAT GMC SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING, THE MOST ETHICAL THING, AND RECALL THE ENTIRE LINE OF THE 2008 GMC ACADIA. THE 2008 ACADIA IS A PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!! *JS
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE STABILITRAK, TRACTION CONTROL AND REDUCED POWER LIGHTS CAME ON. THE CAR WAS RUNNING REALLY ROUGH AND I HAD TO CROSS TRAFFIC TO PULL OVER. I TURNED IT OFF AND SAT FOR 5-10 MINUTES. I STARTED IT AND IT ACTED LIKE NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. I DROVE IT DIRECTLY TO A CHEVY DEALER AND THEY SAID THE ONLY THING THEY COULD FIND WAS THAT IT APPEARED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD MOISTURE IN IT AND THE MOISTURE HAD FROZEN. THEY DRIED IT OUT AND ITS BEEN FINE, UNTIL LAST WEEK. I WAS ON MY WAY TO CHICAGO, AGAIN ON THE INTERSTATE, AND THE ALL THE LIGHTS STARTED COMING ON, THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT, BUT I DID NOT LOSE POWER THIS TIME. I'M REALLY AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR AND UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE SEVERAL MORE TRIPS TO CHICAGO IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I WOULD TAKE OUR OTHER VEHICLE, BUT IT IS ALSO A GM PRODUCT AND IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. I HAVE READ MANY FORUMS WHERE THE SAME SITUATION HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR AS FAR BACK AS 6 YEARS AND APPEARS TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR A LOT OF GM OWNERS. PEOPLE ARE HAVING SENSORS CHANGED OUT, THROTTLE BODY REPLACED AND OTHER WORK DONE ON THEIR VEHICLES AND NOTHING IS SOLVING THE PROBLEM. GM NEEDS TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND FIX IT! ITS VERY DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING ALONG IN WALL TO WALL TRAFFIC AND LIGHTS START COMING ON AND THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF LOSING POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF ALL THAT! UNFORTUNATELY, SINCE WE HAVE TWO GM VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, THERE IS NO WAY TO AVOID DRIVING ONE OF THEM. FYI - I ALSO READ THAT THERE ARE PROBLEMS GOING ON WITH LEAKS IN THE RACK AND PINION AND SWAY BAR ISSUES. I HAD A LEAK IN MY RACK AND PINION AND HAD TO REPLACE THE SWAY BARS LAST FALL.
WIFE DRIVING ALONG AND TRANSMISSION DROPPED OUT. CAR IS VARY WELL TAKEN CARE OF. IN 5 YEARS AND TEN MONTHS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE THE TRANNY GOES? CAR ONLY HAS 49000 MILES, AND APPARENTLY THERE IS A NONE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANNY. VEHICLE REPAIRS COST 4000, COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. CODE ON VEHICLE WASP0776.00, JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER COMPLAINT I HAVE SEEN ON THE INTERNET. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS CAR TO ANYONE. MY FATHER IS A GM EMPLOYEE AND HE IS DISGUSTED WITH THIS. *TR

THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ACADIA. WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 30 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO INCREASE SPEED DESPITE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REBUILT OR REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.- LL
HEADLAMP WIRING MELTED THE HEADLAMP MODULE AND BULB RECEPTACLE THERE WAS NO FIRE BUT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN I WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A SERVICE DIRECTIVE ON THIS THAT EXPIRED ON 12/31 BUT I STILL HAD TO PAY $240 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED WHEN I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM I FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS DEFECT. I FEEL IT IS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD LOOK INTO. *TR

LOCKED UP MAKING A TURN GOING SLOW, PUMP GETTING NOISY, JUST GOT BACK FOR WATER PUMP REPLACE. *TR
THIS IS THE 5TH OR 6TH TIME THAT MY STEERING HAS LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING. I LOVE MY ACADIA, BUT IT SEEMS AS IF ITS FALLING APART. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE OF THE AWFUL NOISE MY STEERING IS MAKING. ITS HARD TO TURN AND AT MOMENTS IT JUST LOCKS UP WHY DRIVING. I'M AFRAID OF HURTING MY CHILDREN, MYSELF, OR EVEN WORSE OTHERS!!! THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE FIXED. DUE TO THE NUMEROUS OTHERS THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS, THIS IS DEFIANTLY A MANUFACTURE DEFAULT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE THE TRANSMISSION WOULD INTERMITTENTLY BECAME STUCK IN GEAR AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DRIVE FORWARD OR IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND OPERATED AS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND WARMER PLATE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY SNOW IN VIRGINIA WHEN MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS SUDDENLY FAILED AND I HAD 0 VISIBILITY. I ALMOST GOT INTO ACCIDENT BECAUSE SNOW ACCUMULATED THAT QUICKLY ON THE WINDSHIELD. UNTIL I FOUND A SAFE PLACE TO STOP AND WAIT FOR HELP, I HAD MY DAUGHTER GET OUT OF THE CAR EVERY TIME I STOPPED TO MANUALLY CLEAN THE WINDSHIELD WITH HER HANDS. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP IN A PARKING LOT AND WAITED FOR A FRIEND TO COME PICK ME UP. RECALL 08091 THAT HUNDREDS OF GMC ACADIA OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT SHOULD APPLY TO MY VEHICLE. *TR
APPROXIMATELY 80000 MILES ON A 2008 ACADIA, THE ENGINE STARTS TICKING. BRING IT IN TO THE DEALER, THEY CHANGE THE OIL, CHECK TO SEE IF IT STILL TICKS, YES IT DOES. TELL US THAT WE NEED A NEW ENGINE, $7000 PARTS, LABOR AND NEW WARRANTY. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT AN '08 WITH 80000 MILES AND JUST 6 MONTHS PAST ORIGINAL WARRANTY REQUIRES A NEW ENGINE. PLEASE EXPLAIN? *TR
AFTER EXITING THE INTERSTATE WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 GMC ACADIA, I STOPPED AT THE END OF EXIT RAMP AND WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE, I LOST POWER AND UNABLE TO REACH POSTED SPEED LIMITS. THE CAR LOST POWER AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO A GMC DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE 3-5 WAVE PLATE FAILED AND CAUSED FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT NO SIGNS OF OPERATOR ABUSE WERE OBSERVED AND IT APPEARED THAT THE WAVE PLATE FAILED ON ITS OWN. THE COSTS OF REPAIR WAS APPROX. $4700 SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT WARRANTY BY 8 MONTHS AND HAD 60,400 MILES. I HAVE CALLED GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAITING FOR RESOLUTION ON MY CLAIM THAT MY COSTS TO REPAIR SHOULD BE MITIGATED SINCE IT APPEARS THAT THE WAVE PLATE FAILURE WAS A DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING ISSUE. *TR

THE STABILITRAC AND SEVERAL OTHER WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. FLUID WAS CHECKED AND FULL AFTER FEELING THE TRANSMISSION SLIP MOMENTS BEFORE. TURNED TO GO BACK HOME AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THANKFULLY WE WERE NOT YET ON THE INTERSTATE AND COASTED OFF THE ROAD. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS RUINED AND TOTAL REPLACEMENT WAS REQUIRED AT A COST OF $4200. AFTER READING ABOUT THE MANY ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE AND SPEAKING TO A MECHANIC WHO SAID THEY WERE ALWAYS FIXING MAJOR ISSUES WITH THIS MODEL/YEAR WE OPTED TO TRADE INSTEAD. DIDN'T WANT TO INVEST THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY AND ALWAYS BE WAITING FOR THE NEXT ISSUE TO ARISE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ARCADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUNROOF WAS LEAKING DUE TO A SHORTAGE IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF ONCE THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE TUBING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.

I PURCHASED A USED 2008 GMC ACADIA IN DECEMBER 2012. AT TIME OF PURCHASE, THE VEHICLE CAR FAX REPORT WAS CLEAN AND INDICATED ONE PREVIOUS OWNER. THE VEHICLE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE WAS APPROXIMATELY 81,000 MILES. MY PERSONAL MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO PURCHASE AND ALSO GAVE THE VEHICLE A CLEAN REPORT. FOR THE FIRST 11 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP, THIS VEHICLE RAN LIKE A CHAMP. TODAY, AT 99,728 MILES (MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILEAGE ON MY BEHALF) I FIND THAT I AM HAVING TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION (REBUILD) AT AN OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSE OF $4,300. I CALLED THE GMC DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AND THEY ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS/WARRANTIES AVAILABLE ON THE TRANSMISSION. THEY ALSO ADVISED THAT IN THE EVENT THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACED, THAT THE COST WOULD BE IN THE VICINITY OF $4,500 AND THEY WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE THIS ESTIMATE WITH CERTAINTY BECAUSE "THEY HAD JUST COMPLETED A REBUILD ON ANOTHER '08 ACADIA LAST WEEK". I FIND IT HIGHLY DISTURBING THAT AT ONLY 99,728 MILES, AND 5 YEARS OF AGE, A TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY GIVES OUT. I AM ALSO DISTURBED THAT WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS OUT THERE ON VARIOUS INTERNET CHAT FORUMS REGARDING THIS VEHICLE AND SPECIFIC MODEL, THAT GMC, TO DATE, HAS YET TO ISSUE ANY RECALLS OR EXTENDED WARRANTIES. I FELT IT NECESSARY TO REPORT THIS MATTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WHILE DRIVING OUR GMC ACADIA WE HAD LOST OUR TRANSMISSION WITH NO WARNING. WE WERE 300 MILES FROM HOME AND HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO OUR HOME SO WE COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED. UPON DOING RESEARCH WE HAD LEARNED THAT THE WAVE PLATE INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION HAD BROKE AND DESTROYED THE TRANSMISSION WITH KNOW WARNING SIGN. FORTUNATELY ENOUGH I HAD JUST EXITED THE FREEWAY TO PULL INTO A SHOPPING CENTER FOR REST. THE POTENTIAL FOR THIS PROBLEM TO HAPPEN WHILE ON THE FREEWAY WOULD HAVE HAD A MUCH WORSE OUTCOME AND HAD THE POTENTIAL TO BE VERY DANGEROUS TO ME AND MY FAMILY. I HAVE LEARNED THROUGH RESEARCH THAT GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS REFUSED TO RECALL THE VEHICLE TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. THIS IS NEGLIGENCE ON GM'S PART AS THEY WERE ADVISED BY THEIR OWN ENGINEERS TO USE A $30 WAVE PLATE, BUT DO TO COST EFFECTIVENESS AND NEGLIGENCE DECIDED TO SELECT THE $1.50 PART THAT BREAKS DOWN OVER TIME COSTING THEIR CONSUMERS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIR. TO REPAIR THE WAVE PLATE IS NOT COSTLY, BUT WHEN IT BREAKS IT DESTROYS THE TRANSMISSION AND IT NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED AT A COST BETWEEN $4000.00 - $6000.00. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNCALLED FOR AND GM NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THEIR DEFICIENCIES. I HAVE CONTACT GM AND ADVISED THEM OF MY DISPLEASURE WITH THEIR PRODUCT AND CHOICE OF PARTS. I CONTINUED TO NOTICE THE SLIPPING OF THE TRANSMISSION AND APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS LATER I WAS DRIVING IN TOWN, GOING ABOUT 35 MPH AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT POPPED ON. I PARKED THE VEHICLE AND DROPPED MY DAUGHTER AT DAYCARE, GOT BACK IN THE CAR TO LEAVE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE OR MOVE FORWARD. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS INFORMED IT WAS A PROBLEM IN THE TRANSMISSION WITH A BROKEN WAVE PLATE AND 3-5 REVERSE CLUTCH PLATE. MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY TIME HOWEVER STILL UNDER THE MILEAGE SO I WAS OFFERED THE REPAIR AT A "DISCOUNTED" RATE.
