TRANSMISSION FAILURE, NO REVERSE ONLY LOW RANGE, NO WARNINGS UNTIL FAILURE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND IT JUST STOPPED SHIFTING/GOING ANYWHERE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THEN IT STARTED GOING AGAIN AND THEN STOPPED AGAIN. I DROVE HOME AND TOOK IT TO THE SHOP LATER THAT WEEK. IT NEEDED A TOTAL TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL. A TRANSMISSION SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 72,000 MILES. WE PAID GOOD MONEY FOR THIS VEHICLE AND I WOULD EXPECT BETTER PERFORMANCE. GM NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES. I DON'T EXPECT A FULL REFUND FOR MY BILL, BUT I DO EXPECT SOME SUBSTANTIAL ASSISTANCE. *TT
WE BOUGHT OUR 2008 GMC ACADIA IN JANUARY 2008. THE BATTERY DIED IN JULY 2008 WHILE VACATIONING IN CANADA LEAVING US STRANDED. AFTER IT WENT DEAD SEVERAL MORE TIMES THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED IT. THE AIR CONDITIONING WENT OUT SEVERAL TIMES IN 2010 AND WE HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE AC RECHARGED TWICE SINCE. IN JULY 2013 WE HAD TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED WHEN IT STOPPED SHIFTING INTO GEAR. OUR WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED IN JANUARY OF THAT YEAR. THE DEALERSHIP DID GET GM TO PAY HALF BUT IT STILL COST US ALMOST $2,000.00. NOW IT IS AT THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN AS IT LOST POWER STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS. WE ARE HAVING IT REPAIRED AT AN ESTIMATE OF NEARLY $1,800.00 MORE. THIS VEHICLE COST ABOUT $36,000.00 IN 2008. SINCE THEN WE HAVE PAID THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS JUST TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD AND SAFE. THIS IS A LEMON AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL FOR BOTH THE TRANSMISSION AND LOSS OF STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS. I SEE THAT BOTH OF THESE ARE COMMON PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR OUR EXPENSES. *JS
PROBLEM #1 OF 3: DURING HEAVY RAINS, WATER WOULD LEAK IN THROUGH THE SUN VISORS ON BOTH SIDES. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES. THEY SAID THE DRAIN TUBES FROM THE SUNROOF WERE CLOGGED, THEY BLEW IT OUT, WHEN THAT DIDN'T WORK, THEY CHARGED ME TO PUT IT LONGER TUBES, WHEN THAT DIDN'T WORK, THEY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE THEY ONLY REPLACED THE FRONT TUBES, NOT THE BACK. PROBLEM #2 OF 3: WHEN DRIVING THROUGH WATER PUDDLES AT LOW SPEED I LOSE POWER STEERING FOR A BRIEF TIME (WHICH IS TROUBLESOME WHEN TURNING). PROBLEM #3 OF 3: TWO WARNING LIGHTS FOR AIRBAGS COME ON EVERYTIME I START THE VEHICLE. I CAN PUSH A BUTTON EACH TIME TO MAKE THE WRITTEN WARNING GO AWAY, BUT THE RED LIGHT WITH A PICTURE STAYS ON. NOT SURE IF THE AIRBAGS WOULD DEPLOY OR NOT. *TR
PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR IN PASSENGER SEAT NON-FUNCTIONAL. INTERMITTENTLY, PASSENGER AIR BAG SYSTEM WILL DEACTIVATE WITH ADULT PASSENGER ON SEAT. BY 2013 WAS NEARLY CONTINUOUSLY NOT FUNCTIONING. LESS THAN 50K MILES. RECALL WAS PERFORMED (WIRES SOLDERED). NO CHANGE AFTER RECALL. DEALER STATES THAT SENSOR MODULE DEFECTIVE ($800 REPAIR). CURRENTLY IN SHOP WAITING FOR PARTS. *TR
WE LIVE IN CAMARILLO CA. WE LEFT TO GO TO SACRAMENTO FOR MY DAUGHTERS COLLEGE ORIENTATION. ABOUT TWO HOURS INTO THE FIRST LEG OF OUR TRIP THE DIC INFORMED US THE TRANSMISSION WAS OVERHEATING AND THE CAR SHOULD BE IDLED FOR IT TO COOL OFF. WE DID JUST THAT. AFTER IT COOLED OFF WE BEGAN DRIVING AGAIN. IT DID THIS ONCE MORE BEFORE WE ARRIVED IN SAN LUIS OBISPO. WE LEFT THE NEXT DAY TO SACRAMENTO. AGAIN ABOUT TWO HOURS INTO THE DRIVE THE SAME THING OCCURRED. WE IDLED THE CAR, TRANS COOLED OFF AND WE GOT UNDER WAY AGAIN. IT DID THIS ONCE MORE BEFORE WE ARRIVED IN SACRAMENTO.. WHILE IN SACRAMENTO IT DROVE FINE. ON OUR RETURN TRIP IT DID THIS TWICE ON THE WAY HOME. AFTER LOOKING BACK IT SEEMED TO DO THIS WHEN WE WERE GOING UP AN INCLINE. WE WERE NOT TOWING ANYTHING EITHER. WE WERE LUCKY THAT WHILE ON THE FREEWAY WHEN WE RECEIVED THE OVERHEAT NOTICE THAT THE CAR DID NOT LOSE POWER AND SLOW DOWN WHILE ON THE FREEWAY IN TRAFFIC. THIS IS THE THIRD TRANSMISSION FOR THIS VEHICLE SINCE WE PURCHASED IT IN 2008. *TR
AT DRIVING SPEED IT WAS NOTICED THAT ACADIA BEGAN TO FAIL TO SHIFT GEARS, BASICALLY ON HIGHWAY IT IS STUCK IN FIRST GEAR AND AFTER FINDING A PLACE TO STOP, IT WILL NOW NOT GO INTO REVERSE. HAVE FOUND THE EDMUNDS, ASK AND NUMEROUS OTHER SITES ARE FULL OF TRANSMISSION COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THE 2008 ACADIA AND IT'S FAILURES. THIS TRANSMISSION HAS HAD MINOR ISSUES IN PAST, MINOR LEAK AND SOME WHINING, BUT THIS IS A COMPLETE AND HAZARDOUS FAILURE WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT THIS IS A COMMON AND KNOWN ISSUE TO GENERAL MOTORS COSTING THE CONSUMERS APPROX. $3000 TO $3500 PER INSTANCE. IS THERE NOTHING TO BE DONE TO ASSIST THE CONSUMERS? *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY ACADIA TO WORK ON MONDAY MORNING AND IT STARTED HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, IT WOULD NOT SHIFT IN THE LOWER GEARS AND WOULD REV UP TO 4-5 RPM BETWEEN GEARS. I DROVE IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP THE NEXT MORNING AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT, NEEDED A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION. UPON LEAVING THE TRANSMISSION SHOP, IT COMPLETELY STOP MOVING, CAUSING ME TO ROLL TO A COMPLETE STOP ON A HIGHWAY. I GOT IT PULLED OVER, STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE A BLOCK OR SO BEFORE IT STOPPED AGAIN. I WAS STRANDED AND STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT TO A PARKING LOT AND HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALER TO LOOK AT. *TR
3/5/R WAVE PLATE TRANSMISSION FAILURE - I WAS TRAVELING OUT OF STATE AND MY 2008 GMC ACADIA STOPPED IN IT'S TRACKS WITHOUT ANY WARNING. VEHICLE WAS RUNNING, BUT IT WOULD NOT MOVE. I WAS STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AT NIGHT WITH 3 YOUNG CHILDREN, OVER 5 HOURS AWAY FROM HOME. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING AND 3/5/R WAVE PLATE FAILURE WAS DETERMINED, NEW TRANSMISSION REQUIRED. LESS THAN A WEEK PRIOR TO THE CROSS COUNTRY TRIP, VEHICLE WAS AT DEALERSHIP HAVING OIL CHANGE AND OTHER PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE COMPLETED, NO ISSUES NOTED AT THAT TIME. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. *TR
TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHEN TRANSMISSION FAILURE MESSAGE CAME ON. HAS COME ON MULTIPLE TIMES, REQUIRING ME TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE BUSY ROAD WITH SEMIS SPEEDING PAST. GMC IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, YET REFUSES TO ADDRESS IT ON A LARGE-SCALE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED BEFORE THEY ACTUALLY COME TO ACTION ON THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT!!! *TR
FLUID LEAKED FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO POWER BOOSTER NO VISIBLE LEAKS REPAIRED AT MY EXPENSE ABOUT A WEEK LATER A BULLETIN FROM GM THAT WAS TO EXTEND MY WARRANTY TO 10 YEAR 120000 MILES. THERE IS A PROCESS IN PLACE TO RETURN MY MONEY. NO SAFETY RECALL ! BOTH FRONT STRUTS HAVE GONE OUT . THE AIR CONDITIONER IS CAUSING PROBLEMS BECAUSE OF OFF AND ON COOLING. ALL OF THIS IS WITH IN 55000 MILES, THE CAR HAS 55055MILES AS OF THIS DATED. THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROCESS OF NO SAFETY RECALLS BUT TO ISSUE EXTENDED WARRANTY. WE ALL KNOW WHAT RECALLS DO TO SALES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL TICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. ..UPDATED 05/19/16 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE SERVICE BULLETIN 11340A. UPDATED 10/17/2017*JS
WE ARE A FAMILY OF 5 DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE STOPPED AND PUT THE CAR INTO PARK. WHEN I WENT TO PUT INTO DRIVE, THE CAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE. FINALLY AFTER A FEW MINUTES WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE CAR GOING AGAIN, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT ITSELF (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). WE THEN HAD TO DRIVE ALONG THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY FOR 13 MILES TO THE NEXT TOWN WITH THE HAZARDS ON AT 20 MILES PER HOUR. WENT TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND AFTER THEY READ THE CODES, THERE APPEARS THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS COMPLETELY OUT. WE WERE MORE THAN 800 MILES AWAY FROM HOME ON VACATION IN MISSOURI. THE CAR IS STILL IN MISSOURI AT THE DEALERSHIP, AS THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE THE TRANSMISSION APART UNTIL EARLY NEXT WEEK. *TR
FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN WE WENT TO A FAMILY REUNION FOR THE WEEKEND. WE WERE AT A CAMP GROUND IN A CABIN AND DID NOT ENTER THE CAR ALL WEEKEND. IT RAINED ALL WEEKEND VERY HARD AT TIMES. WHEN WE DID ENTER THE CAR TO GO HOME NOTED APPROX. 1 INCH OF WATER TO THE FLOOR OF BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE. AT THE TIME I THOUGHT MAYBE I JUST DIDN'T HAVE THE SUN ROOF CLOSED ALL THE WAY. DRIED IT UP AND DIDN'T THINK MUCH MORE ABOUT IT. CAR IS GARAGE KEPT SO MOST OF THE TIME IT IS NOT EXPOSED TO RAIN. ANOTHER DAY TOOK MY SON TO DENTIST, IT WAS RAINING VERY HARD THAT DAY ON THE WAY HOME WATER STARTED POURING OUT OF 3RD ROW LIGHT THEN NOTED SOUNDS OF WATER SPLASHING AROUND IN HEADLINER. I WAS ABLE TO DRY IT UP AND MENTIONED IT WHEN I HAD AN OIL CHANGE. I WAS TOLD THE DRAIN TUBES WERE PROBABLY BLOCKED AND DID A CHECK ON THOSE WITH NO PROBLEMS. AS I SAID THE CAR IS GARAGE KEPT SO FORTUNATELY IT HAS NOT BEEN EXPOSED TO A LOT OF RAIN. HOWEVER THIS WEEK WE HAVE HAD A LOT OF RAIN THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED OUT SIDE WHILE I WORK. YESTERDAY WHEN I CAME HOME I AGAIN NOTED LARGE AMOUNT OF WATER IN FLOOR BOARDS. DRIED IT UP AGAIN WITH PLAN TO TAKE TO DEALER ON NEXT DAY OFF. TODAY WHEN I CAME HOME FROM WORK I HAD PLACED TOWEL IN SUNROOF AREA IN CASE OF MORE RAIN, TOWEL WAS SOAKED DRIPPING DOWN ONTO SEATS FLOOR WAS AGAIN SOAKED. WHEN I GOT HOME TURNED KEY OFF, REMOVED KEY BUT CAR CONTINUED TO RUN, SPUTTERED FOR APPROX. 2-3 MINS THEN SHUT OFF. STARTED IT UP AGAIN AND SHUT IT OFF REMOVED THE KEY AND IT DID THE SAME. HEARD A CONTINUED HUMMING SOUND COMING FROM ENGINE. AT THIS POINT I HAD WORKED ALL NIGHT SO JUST LEFT IT. I WILL TAKE TO DEALER TOMORROW BUT IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS. NO FIX BY GMC. *JS
COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE DUE TO 3-5 WAVE PLATE FAILURE. *TR THE CONSUMER HAS AN ISSUE WITH THE HEAD RESTRAINTS IN THE NEW ACADIA'S. HE STATED THE EIGHT PASSENGER VEHICLE ONLY OFFERS FOUR ADULT HEAD RESTRAINTS. UPDATED 06/03/15.*JB
WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 5 CHILDREN ON THE HIGHWAY THE TRUCK STOPPED ON HER. SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT BUT ONLY DRIVE ABOUT 40MPH WHILE THE RPM'S WERE REDLINING. THE REVERSE WENT COMPLETELY OUT. SHE ENDED UP HAVING TO PUSH THE TRUCK BY HERSELF WITH ALL THE KIDS INSIDE. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THE TRANSMISSION IS BAD, IT'LL COST $2600 TO REPAIR. FROM READING THE FORUMS IT'S OBVIOUS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION WITH THIS PARTICULAR TRUCK. WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE NO ONE WAS INJURED. *TR
AS I WAS PULLING OFF OF THE INTERSTATE ONTO ROCKVILLE RD I NOTICED THAT THE CAR UPSHIFTED FROM 3RD VERY VIOLENTLY. I THEN HIT A STOP LIGHT AND IT DOWSHIFTED PRETTY ROUGH AS WELL. I THOUGHT UH OH AND NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. WHEN I PULLED AWAY FROM THE LIGHT I NOTICED THE CAR WAS MOST LIKELY STUCK IN 3RD GEAR AS THE RPMS MATCHED THE MPH AND FROM DRIVING A STICK ALL THOSE YEARS THEY MADE SENSE. I LATER FOUND OUT THIS WAS DONE ON PURPOSE TO STICK THE TRANSMISSION IN 3RD GEAR TO FURTHER DAMAGE IT AND ALLOW YOU TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE. I GOT TO WORK AND HAD ONSTAR RUN A DIAGNOSTIC. IT CAME BACK WITH A P2715 CODE FOR THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL. AFTER LOOKING INTO THIS CODE IT APPEARS TO INVOLVE THE 3-5-R WAVEPLATE THAT CONTROLS THE CLUTCH FOR THESE GEARS. I, OF COURSE, AM 6 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY ON THE DRIVE TRAIN. AFTER CONFIRMATION WITH GMC IT WAS THE WAVE PLATE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM CROPPING UP WITH THIS TRANSMISSION WHEN YOU LOOK AROUND SOCIAL MEDIA. *TR
ABOUT A WEEK AGO MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING HOME FROM VACATION AND HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD FOR ABOUT 3.5 HOURS. AS WE PULLED OUT OF A DRIVEWAY ABOUT 5 MINUTES FROM OUR HOME THE CAR ENGINE LIGHT CAME ONE, THE CAR WOULD NOT GAIN SPEED LIKE NORMAL AND IT BEGAN TO OVER HEAT RAPIDLY. WE TOOK SIDE ROADS AND SLOWLY CRAWLED HOME. I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP THE NEXT DAY AND IT CAME BACK WITH A CRACK IN THE RADIATOR AND CODES P0700 AND P07016, WHICH THEY CONFIRMED TO BE A TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND SUGGESTED TO HAVE A SPECIALIST LOOK AT IT. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS ARE COMMON CODES THAT COME BACK FOR THE 2007 AND 2008 ACADIA'S THAT REQUIRE A REBUILD/REPLACED TRANSMISSION WITH AN AVERAGE COST OF $4000. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH GMC FOR MANY YEARS AND THEY HAVE YET TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT. I AM VERY LUCKY TO NOT HAVE HAD A WORSE INCIDENT IN DISCOVERING THIS ISSUE, BUT I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT AT ANY MOMENT THE TRANSMISSION WILL GO OUT, AND WE DO NOT HAVE $4000 TO DROP INTO A NEW ONE, ESPECIALLY WHEN I JUST SPENT $650 ON A NEW RADIATOR. THESE ARE NOT PROBLEMS THAT A RELIABLE CAR, THE 2008 ACADIA, UNDER 100,000 MILES SHOULD BE HAVING. GMC NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THESE ISSUES AND TAKE ACTION TO CORRECT IT BEFORE SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS HAPPENS. *TR
I WAS AT MY SON'S BASEBALL GAME AND WENT TO MOVE MY VEHICLE WHEN I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AND THE VEHICLE STARTED REVVING AND WOULD NOT MOVE OTHER THAN COASTING (SINCE I WAS ON A HILL). I WAS 3 HOURS FROM HOME AND HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE TUNE OF $300.00 +. I HAVE SINCE HAD TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. THIS HAS COST OVER $4500.00 NOT TO MENTION HAVING TO DRIVE 2 VEHICLES WITH MY FAMILY SINCE THE ACADIA WAS THE LARGER OF OUR VEHICLES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT GEARS BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY WAVE PLATE IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
WHILE IN TRAFFIC, MY ENGINE REVVED UP AND MY VEHICLE JOLTED FORWARD WHEN MY TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING. IF ANYONE WOULD HAVE BEEN BEHIND ME, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. *TR
5 YEAR OLD CHILD WAS IN HIS 5 POINT HARNESS CHILD SEAT USING THE ANCHOR SYSTEM. HE REACHED BACK AND GRABBED THE VEHICLE SEAT BELT THAT WAS NOT IN USE AND WRAPPED IT AROUND HIS NECK. THE SEAT BELT LOCKED AND STARTED TO CHOKE HIM. WE WERE UNABLE TO LOOSEN IT TO GET HIM OUT. LUCKILY WE WERE PULLING INTO OUR DRIVEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND WERE ABLE TO GET SCISSORS AND TOOLS FROM THE HOUSE. I HELD THE SEAT BELT AWAY FROM HIS NECK WHILE MY HUSBAND TRIED TO DETACH THE SEAT BELT FROM THE FLOOR OF THE CAR. BEING UNSUCCESSFUL AND OUR SON STARTING TO CRY, WE HAD TO CUT THE SEAT BELT TO FREE OUR CHILD. IF WE WERE NOT DRIVING INTO OUR DRIVEWAY, INJURIES WOULD HAVE BEEN SEVERE DUE TO NO POSSIBLE WAY TO LOOSEN OR UNLOCK THE BELT. *TT
BOUGHT THIS LIFE ALTERING MESS OF A VEHICLE IN JUNE 2013 WITH 77K MILES. SINCE THAT TIME A WIDE SPECTRUM OF ISSUES HAVE AROSE AND COST ME FOR THAN JUST MONEY. WINDSHIELD WIPER QUIT WORKING AND NEEDED TO BE FIXED (I NOW SEE THAT WAS A RECALL) CONSTANT ELECTRIC ISSUES IN USING BEEPING, LIGHTING UP AT INAPPROPRIATE TIMES, NOT REGISTERING A GROWN ADULT IN PASSENGER SEAT. ALSO, LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID. GM DID COVER THAT CHARGE WHICH WAS NO HELP WITH THE REAR END THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF NEARLY $3000. MY TRANSMISSION FAILED ON MY GMC ACADIA AT JUST UNDER 62000 MILES. AS I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE MODEL YEAR AND COULD EASILY CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. WHILE OUT SHOPPING WITH MY CHILDREN WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE TO DEPART FOR THE MALL, THE IGNITION TURNED TO THE OFF POSITION, I REMOVED THE KEY BUT THE CAR REMAINED ON. I THEN NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. SHORTLY AFTER, THE CAR BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY; I ASSUME AS IT WAS ATTEMPTING TO SHUT OFF. I INSERTED THE KEY, SHIFTED INTO TO REVERSE, PULLED OUT OF SPOT AND THEN BACK IN AGAIN. PROCEEDED TO TURN VEHICLE OFF AND AGAIN, KEY REMOVED BUT CAR STILL RUNNING. AGAIN THE VIOLENT SHAKING ALONG WITH LOUD NOISES BEGAN. AFRAID, I INSTRUCTED MY CHILDREN TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE. WE GOT A COMFORTABLE DISTANCE FROM THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUED TO WATCH. IT TOOK 25 MINUTES FOR THE CAR TO SHUT TOTALLY DOWN. WHEN I WENT BACK TO THE CAR, AS I OPENED THE DOOR, I NOTICED THE WARNING SOUND AS IF THE KEY WAS IN THE IGNITION AND ALSO ALTHOUGH THE ENTIRE DASH WAS OFF, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON, (IM NOT SURE HOW SINCE THE CAR WAS "OFF" AND NO KEY INSERTED). TRANSMISSION ON 2008 GMC ACADIA STOPPED WORKING. TOWED TO LEHMER'S GMC IN CONCORD, CA. ADVISED THAT TRANSMISSION MUST BE REBUILT OR REPLACED. *TR
POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT WORK.. PULLED INTO PARKING SPOT AND THE VEH STARTED A LOUD SCREACHING SOUND FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. AGAIN WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD THE STEERING COMPLETELY CUTS OUT. IN MAY OF 2013 THE POWER STERRING RACK WAS REPORTED TO ME THAT IT WAS LEAKING ( WHILE IN THE DEALER FOR TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT ). THE GMC DEALER, SERRA GMC IN WASHINGTON , MI., REPLACED THE STEERING RACK AND CHARGED US FOR THE NEW RACK. A FEW WEEKS LATER THE POWER STEERING BEGAN TO CUT OUT WHILE DRIVING. WE TOOK VEH IN FOR SERVICE AND PAID FOR A DIAGNOSTIC OF THE PROBLEM AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE POWER STEERING ISSUE.. BUT SAID IT WAS PROBRABLY THE STEERING PUMP.IN ADDITION WE WERE TOLD THE TIMING CHAIN COVER WAS LEAKING OIL AND THE TIMING CHAIN WOULD NEED REPLACING. THEY GOT GM TO PAY A PORTION OF THE REPAIR. THEY WANTED OVER $700 TO REPLACE THE POWER STERRING PUMP BUT WOULD NOT GAURANTEE THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS IS CRAZY WE JUST PAID TO HAVE THE STEERING RACK REPLACED AND A PORTION OF THE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT AND NOW THE STEERING PUMP. THE VEH CURRENTLY HAS LESS THAN 79,000 MILES. I REALLY FEEL THIS IS AN UNSAFE CONDITION THAT NHTSA NEEDS TO LOOK INTO. MY DAUGHTER ( WHO IS 15 YEARS OLD ) IS CURRENTLY A "LEARNING DRIVER" WHO DRIVES THIS VEH ( WITH A LICENSED DRIVER IN THE VEH) AS PART OF HER LOGGED DRIVING TIME. ON JUNE 19, 2013 I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 GMC ACADIA FROM MY HOME TO WORK. I NEEDED TO TURN RIGHT FROM MY RESIDENTIAL SIDE STREET ONTO A MAJOR FOUR LANE HIGHWAY. I HAD A RED LIGHT BUT COULD TURN RIGHT ON RED IF I YIELDED TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THERE WAS A CAR APPROACHING TRAVELING THE SAME DIRECTION AS I WAS TURNING BUT I KNEW I HAD SUFFICIENT TIME TO TURN AND ACCELERATE BEFORE THE CAR REACHED ME. AS I WAS TURNING RIGHT FROM MY SIDE STREET ONTO THE HIGHWAY, I PRESSED THE GAS TO ACCELERATE AND THE CAR BEGAN TO MOVE FORWARD BUT AT A VERY, VERY SLOW PACE, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV VERY LOUDLY, AND THE CAR WAS JERKING VERY BADLY. AT THAT POINT I WAS FULLY ON THE HIGHWAY BUT COULD NOT ACCELERATE MY CAR. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS IN THE FAR LEFT LANE OF THE HIGHWAY, SO THE ONCOMING CAR WAS ABLE TO CHANGE LANES AND AVOID REAR ENDING ME AS HE WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AND MY CAR WOULD NOT GET PAST 5 MPH. EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS INDICATED ON MY DASHBOARD, SUCH AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE REPAIR SHOP THAT DAY AS I KNEW SOMETHING WAS VERY WRONG WITH IT. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THE WAVE PLATE ON MY TRANSMISSION HAS GONE BAD AND I NEED AN ENTIRELY NEW TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH PLATE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE MONTHS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SECOND DEALER, WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING THE REBUILDING OF THE TRANSMISSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE CAR MADE A LOUD ROARING NOISE LIKE SOMEONE WAS MASHING THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR. THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED LIKE IT DID NOT KNOW WHAT GEAR IT WAS IN HENCE GOING FROM 50 MPH TO 30 RAPIDLY COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. HAD I BEEN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION OR PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A LIFE THREATENING ACCIDENT. WE CONTACTED ONSTAR AND THE CODES INDICATED TRANSMISSION PROBLEM OF A BROKEN WAVE PLATE. CODE P2715 THE ACADIA WILL NOT BACK UP AT ALL. THERE ARE NUMEROUS BLOGS OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE ACADIA'S WAVE PLATE RANGING IN THE YEAR OF 2007-2009. SEEMS LIKE IT IS A REALLY BAD DESIGN AND NOT STRONG ENOUGH FOR THIS TYPE OF SUV. I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHY GMC IS NOT RECALLING OR OFFERING TO PAY TO FIX THESE FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS. I AM ABOUT TO BE OUT $4,000 BECAUSE I HAVE NO WARRANTY LEFT AND GMC AND CARMAX ARE NOT WILLING TO HELP. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 4 MONTHS AND IT ONLY HAS 93,000 MILES AND IT MAKES ME SICK BECAUSE THE 5 YEAR 100,000 MILE WARRANTY WAS OUT IN JANUARY. WE CONTACTED A MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED US THAT HE HAD WORKED ON PLENTY OF ACADIA'S WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS AND WHEN HE CHECKED OUR VEHICLE IT WAS NO EXCEPTION. OUR REVERSE FUNCTION WAS COMPLETELY GONE OUT IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM AND THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE WHAT THEY COULD DO SINCE THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DID A FULL SERVICE/FIVE POINT INSPECTION ON MY VEHICLE AND FOUND NOTHING, BUT THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO TO HELP. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE AND HAVE FOUND PLENTY OF DISAPPOINTED CUSTOMERS, SO I FEEL THAT THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE WERE NOT DISCLOSED IN TRANSPARENCY AND CAUSING FAMILIES SAFETY AND FINANCIAL STRAINS. I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THAT ONLY GM FORUMS WERE A RELIABLE SOURCE, EVEN THOUGH I RECEIVED THEIR EMAIL FROM A NON-GM FORUM WHERE THEY TOLD CONSUMERS TO CONTACT THEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD A HEADLIGHT RECALL ON MY VEHICLE AND SHOULD GET IT FIXED, EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE WAS DOWN AT THE TIME. THEY ARE BEING VERY INSENSITIVE TO THIS ISSUE, AND A FAMILY IS REALLY GOING TO BE HURT IN THIS VEHICLE IF THEY DO NOT TAKE THIS MATTER SERIOUS. *TR

WE PURCHASED OUR 2008 ACADIA IN 2011, IT HAD APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. LESS THAN THIRTY DAYS AFTER PURCHASE WE HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT ROTORS. AT 40,000 MILES WE HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKES; THE AIR CONDITIONER BACKED UP, WHICH REQUIRED MAINTENANCE TO THE BLOWER MOTOR; AND THE HEAD LIGHTS WENT OUT, WHICH REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. AT 45,000 MILES THE REAR STRUTS WENT OUT, WHICH REQUIRED REPLACEMENT; AND WE HAD TO REPLACE TWO TIRES. AT 60,000 MILES THE WATER PUMP WENT OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AT 55,000 MILES THE FRONT STRUTS WENT OUT, WHICH NEEDED REPLACING, ALONG WITH FOUR NEW TIRES, AND A NEW SET OF HEADLIGHTS. AT 60,000 MILES THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AT 70,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT, WHICH ALSO REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE FINAL INCIDENT HAPPENED ON 6/10/13 AT 74,000 MILES, WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH ALL THREE OF MY CHILDREN. I WAS GOING 50 MILES AN HOUR ON A HIGHWAY, AND THE ENTIRE CAR SHUT DOWN. THE STEERING CONSOLE LOCKED WITH THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION, I HAD NO ABILITY TO STEER THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKES DID NOT FUNCTION EITHER. I HAD TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN, BARELY AVOIDING A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE.

OUR AREA OF TEXAS IS DROUGHT PRONE SO NO MORE SIGNIFICANT RAIN UNTIL JULY 14-16. WATER POURS IN THE FRONT WINDSHIELD, BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. WATER FROM CURTAIN AIRBAGS AND UNDER THE DASH. STANDING WATER IN THE FLOOR BOARD. OBD LIGHT IS ON AND MY PARKING BREAK WARNING LIGHT TURNS ON AND OFF. PARK ASSIST GOES ON AND OFF. THE WARNING CHIME COMES ON WHILE DRIVING AND WON'T TURN OFF. NO TELLING HOW MUCH DAMAGE ALL OF THIS WILL CAUSE. I HAVE ONE MORE PAYMENT UNTIL THE THING IS MINE FREE AND CLEAR. NO WARRANTY AND NO RECOURSE. IT FIGURES. *TR
2008 GMC ACADIA- STEERING PROBLEMS!!- 65,000 STARTED NOTICING POWER STEERING LOSS WHEN SLOW TURNING SOMETIMES...OFF AND ON...THEN GOT MORE OFTEN AND MUCH WORSE...REPLACED RACK ($300).....PROBLEM STILL NOT FIXED...NEXT TRYING TO REPLACE POWER STEERING PUMP ($$ YET TO FIND OUT)...RECALL ON HEADLIGHT- SOCKET MELTED AND REPLACED....AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME OFF AND ON...TRACTION CONTROL, STABILITY TRACK, AND AIRBAG LIGHT COME OFF AND ON RANDOMLY. NO SOUND...TOOK TO GMC DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD US IT WAS THE RADIO. REPLACED RADIO($450), STILL DIDN'T WORK. DEALERSHIP STATED AMP BLEW AND NEEDED NEW AMP ($400)...THOUGHT IT WAS THE AMP THE ENTIRE TIME DUE TO THE CD PLAYER WORKING VISUALLY, BUT NO SOUND IN ENTIRE VEHICLE FOR ANY ELECTRONIC FEATURE. SHIFTING RANDOMLY WHEN GOING DOWN HIGHWAY. GAS MILEAGE HORRIBLE-- ABOUT 14 TO 14 .5MPG-- MUCH WORSE THAN WHEN WE FIRST GOT IT AT 48,000...LOVE THE LOOK AND WHEN IT WORKS....WHY IS THERE NO RECALL WILL THE POWER STEERING?? COME ON GMC STEP UP AND DO THE RIGHT THING ALREADY!!! *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, THE CAR WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND LOST POWER. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, IT WENT INTO LOW GEAR AND WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO A HIGHER GEAR. THE TRANSMISSION REQUIRED A RE-BUILD TWO YEARS EARLIER AT 62,000 MILES AND IS NOW FAILING AGAIN. WE WERE TOLD THE TRANSMISSION MUST BE RE-BUILT YET AGAIN. WE CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR AS THE LOSS OF POWER AND SLIPPING TRANSMISSION IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE TRANSMISSION DESIGN, AND THE SUBSEQUENT REPAIR BY THE DEALER, WAS FAULTY. AS OUR WARRANTY EXPIRED 4 MONTHS AGO, WE WERE A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS REQUIRED AT $4,000. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 45MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER TO THE WHEELS, THE ENGINE RACED AND THE TRANSMISSION APPEARED TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF, AND RESTARTED WITH ONLY 1ST AND 2ND GEAR AVAILABLE AND WAS MOVED TO SAFETY. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 55,000 MILES. A P0776 CODE WAS PULLED FROM THE COMPUTER AND THE GMC DEALER CHECKED THE PROBLEM AND CONCLUDED THAT THE 3,5,R WAVE PLATE IN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND WILL REQUIRE A FULL REBUILD. WITH THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM, I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED IN GM FOR THEIR LACK OF CUSTOMER SUPPORT IN WHAT APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE 6T70 TRANSMISSIONS, AS THIS ISSUE IS OCCURRING IN 2007-2009 GMC ACADIAS, BUICK ENCLAVES, CHEVROLET TRAVERSES AND THE SATURN VUES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING 40 MPH CRASHED INTO THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,532.
WATER LEAKS IN FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR BOARDS, HARD TO TELL WHERE THE LEAK IS OCCURRING. WATER LEAKS EVERYTIME IT RAINS AND DRIPS DOWN ONTO THE WIRING AND AIRBAGS. THIS CAUSES THE GAS AND BRAKE PEDALS TO BECOME SLICK POSING A SAFETY ISSUE. WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED AND THIS IS THE FIRST FEW TIMES WE'VE NOTICED IT. WATER LEAKING ON THE WIRING SYSTEM CANT BE GOOD EVERYONE KNOWS WATER AND ELECTRICITY DO NOT MIX. *TR
THERE WAS A "CLUNK" UPON ACCELERATION FROM STOPPED, SOON AFTER VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. WAVE PLATE WAS DESTROYED IN TRANSMISSION CAUSING A NEED TO BE REBUILT, AS SO MANY, IF NOT ALL OTHERS IN 2007-2009 GMC ACADIAS HAVE BEEN. OUT OF POCKET COST TO ME IS $3,500 BECAUSE GM USED A $2 PART INSTEAD OF AN $8 PART. THIS IS AN HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS STRANDING PEOPLE, MOTHERS WITH CHILDREN, IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS, ALL THE WHILE, GM IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND SOLUTION BUT REFUSES TO STEP UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT. THERE NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
THE CAR TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED AS SOON AS THE CAR TURNED 5 YEARS. THE CAR HAS BEEN RARELY DRIVEN. AFTER CHECKING WITH MANY GARAGES I HAVE FOUND THAT THE GMC ACADIA 2008 MODEL HAS A BEEN KNOWN FOR TRANSMISSION FAILURES BY DESIGN AND IT IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE. THIS IS A RIP OFF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END CRASH IN WHICH NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 132,653.
