TRANSMISSION BLEW. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 GMC ACADIA ALONG WITH MY SISTER AND HER TWO GOD CHILDREN. WE WERE AT A RED LIGHT AND PROCEEDED TO GO WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. GOT UP TO 20MPH AND THE SUV JERKED SEVERELY. ONCE IT JERKED THE SUV WOULD NOT GO OVER THAT MILEAGE. WE WERE ALL SCARED! I TOOK THEM HOME AND DROVE TO A GM DEALERSHIP. I PAID $114.00 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG. THEY SPECULATED THAT A WAVE PLATE BROKE OR MOVED. THEY ADVISED IN ORDER TO KNOW FOR SURE, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY 900.00 PLUS FOR A DEEPER DIAGNOSTIC! I'M UNDER MY 100K MILEAGE AND NO ONE IS HONORING THAT. I'M A MBA STUDENT AND DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF CASH! I'VE ONLY HAD THIS SUV FOR 3 YEARS. I BOUGHT IT USED, HAD ONLY ONE OWNER BEFORE ME, AND IT WAS UNDER 20K MILES. SOUNDS LIKE GM'S PRODUCT IS NOT RELIABLE AND THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. I TRIED TO BUY AN AMERICAN PRODUCT TO PUT HELP OUR ECONOMY AND THIS IS THE REPAYMENT FOR IT! I'M GOING BACK TO FOREIGN CARS, I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER GM BUILT VEHICLE AS LONG AS I BREATH! *TR
WE WERE PARKED WITH THE BACK END UP ON A SLOPE, WHEN WE WENT DOWN ONTO LEVEL GROUND A LARGE AMOUNT OF WATER CAME IN BETWEEN OUR WINDSHIELD AND CEILING- IT POURED ONTO OUR PASSENGER SIDE DASH. WE THOUGHT WE GOT ALL THE WATER SOAKED UP RIGHT AWAY. THE NEXT MORNING OUR CAR WAS MAKING A CLICKING SOUND AND WOULDN'T START. IT WOULDN'T GIVE THE KEY BACK. WHEN WE JUMPED IT- IT WOULDN'T SHUT OFF. WE HAD TO UNHOOK THE BATTERY- VERY DANGEROUS. THIS WENT ON FOR DAYS. *TR
I PURCHASED THE GMC ACADIA FROM A DEALERSHIP IN KAISERSLAUTERN GERMANY IN MAY 2012. BY APRIL 2013 THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING. AT FIRST THE SUV WOULD JUMP GEARS 6-3 SOMETIMES 6-1 WHILE MOVING AT SPEEDS HIGHER THAN 35 MPH. I HAVE 3 YOUNG CHILDREN AND THE RESULT OF SUCH SUDDEN SHIFTING COULD HAVE CAUSED WHIPLASH AND DID CAUSE FEAR. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AUTO SCHNEIDER IN WEIDEN GERMANY WHO IDENTIFIED THE SPEED SENSOR AS THE PROBLEM VIA THE COMPUTER AND REPLACED THE PART. BY 10 MAY 2013 THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY IMMOBILE. I CONDUCTED RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND OVER 1000 ENTRIES SPECIFYING THAT PEOPLE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AROUND 70000 MILES, AND SOMETIMES TWICE, WITH GMC COVERING 0 COSTS. AS A US SERVICE MEMBER I BELIEVE THAT THE NHTSA SHOULD MONITOR COMPLAINTS ON OTHER SITES AND INVESTIGATE POOR MECHANICS ESPECIALLY WHEN TAX DOLLARS WERE USED TO REHABILITATE GMC IN 2008. ANYTIME THERE IS A MECHANICAL FAILURE IN A VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION IT CAN CAUSE INCIDENT. *TR
MY VEHICLE SAT OUT IN THE RAIN OVER NIGHT AND THE NEXT DAY WHEN I GOT TO WORK I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR I NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, SO I GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND ALL LIGHTS WERE OFF ONLY THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. I TURNED THE KEY OVER AND THEN BACK AND THEN AT THAT POINT THE ENGINE STOPPED. WHEN I RETURNED TO MY CAR THAT EVENING AFTER WORK MY CAR WAS DEAD. IT TOOK TWO GUYS 30 MINUTES TO GET MY BATTERY TO CHARGE. ONCE MY BATTERY WAS CHARGED MY SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE NEXT MORNING MY CAR WAS DEAD WHEN I TURNED THE KEY ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TURNED ON AND I COULD NOT GET THE KEYS OUT OF THE IGNITION. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY SITTING IN MY GARAGE AND WE ARE TRYING TO DETERMINE WHAT STEP TO TAKE IF WE SHOULD GET IT TOWED TO A DEALER TO LOOK AT, BUT LOOKING AT OTHER REVIEWS IT SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH NO RESOLUTION AT THE DEALERSHIP. IN THE PAST AND ON THIS OCCASION MY VEHICLE WAS LEAKING WATER MAINLY ABOVE THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR AREA. I OFTEN WOULD NOTICE WATER ON THE PASSENGER FLOOR AND WATER IN THE THIRD ROW LIGHTS CEILING AREA. SO I AM ASSUMING MY ELECTRONICS ARE WET AND WHEN THEY DRY OUT MY CAR WILL ACT NORMAL AGAIN. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NOT A RECALL OR SOME TYPE OF REMEDY FOR THIS. I GUESS FROM NOW ON MY VEHICLE NEEDS TO GO IN THE GARAGE, BUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MY FAMILY IS ON A TRIP. I CAN NOT RELY ON MY CAR SO NOT SURE WHAT THE POINT OF KEEPING IT IS, BUT I SURE DON'T WANT TO KEEP PASSING MY CAR OFF ON SOME OTHER POOR PERSON. THERE NEEDS TO BE A REMEDY. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A RELIABLE CAR AND I AM ALSO WORRIED ABOUT THE SAFETY FOR MY FAMILY WITH ELECTRICAL SHORTS AND FIRE HAZARD DUE TO THE WATER LEAKAGE PROBLEMS. *TR
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MANEUVER OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, MY WHEELS LOCKED UP. STILL THINKING THE WHEEL HAD TURNED ENOUGH, I ATTEMPTED TO CLEAR A CEMENT BEA, HOWEVER THE CAR ROLLED INTO IT. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRE HAD DETACHED FROM THE CAR "ROD UNDER THE CAR" WHICH PREVENTED ME FROM TURNING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE STATE AT 70MPH I CAME UP ON SLOWER TRAFFIC AND HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO 60-65MPH BEFORE I COULD CHANGE LANES. ONCE CHANGING LANES AND AS I WENT TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO DOWNSHIFT AND RPM WENT FROM 1800-2000 TO 5000 AND THE VEHICLE BASICALLY STALLED FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS CAUSING A 18 WHEELER TO BASICALLY ALL BUT WRECK TO KEEP FROM KILLING ME AND MY OTHER 5 FAMILY MEMBERS IN THE VEHICLE. I PULLED OVER AT THE NEXT EXIT AND MADE SURE THERE WAS NO KIND OF TRANSMISSION CODES OR ANYTHING TO SHOW UP ON THE DASH BUT I STILL CHECKED MY FLUIDS AND EVERYTHING CHECKED TO OK. I HAD 325 MORE MILES TO GET HOME SO I BASICALLY HAD TO BABY IT TO THE HOUSE. IT HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES DURING THE TRIP BUT THAT WAS THE WORST. I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT THE AIRBAG IN THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT TURNS ITSELF ON AND OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON WITH THE SAME INDIVIDUAL SITTING IN IT WHO WEIGHS 130LBS. AT FIRST I JUST THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE WAY THEY WERE SITTING BUT I WEIGH 200LBS AND IT DID THE SAME WITH ME. I'M HOPING TO GET THESE PROBLEMS RESOLVED BY DEALER TOMORROW BUT WITH SO MANY TRANSMISSIONS DOING THE SAME THING THE GOV & GMC NEED TO TAKE CHARGE OF THIS ISSUE AND GET THE [XXX] PROBLEM FIXED BEFORE MORE PEOPLE HAVE ISSUE AND GET KILLED OR INJURED. *TR INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
MY CAR ENGINE STARTING REVVING WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEEDS. WHILE DRIVING WITH MY 3 CHILDREN IN THE CAR, IT CAME TO A DEAD STOP AND COULDN'T GO IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND THEN DIAGNOSED WITH A BROKEN 35R CLUTCH WAVE PLATE. HAD TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AT 48K MILES. THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN LESS THAN 10K MILES A YEAR FOR 5.5 YEARS. *TR
ON OCCASION, OUR 2008 ACADIA WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF LOW GEAR WHEN FIRST ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE. THE TAC WOULD REV TO 5-6000 RPM AT A MAX OF ABOUT 20 MPH. WE WOULD NEED TO PULL OVER, TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND RESTART. AT THIS POINT EVERYTHING WOULD BE FINE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEING DISPLAYED. AT FIRST THIS WOULD HAPPEN VERY RARELY. IT THEN BEGAN TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY. THE LAST INCIDENT WAS VERY SCARY FOR MY SON, A NEW DRIVE. HE ATTEMPTED TO PULL OUT INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC ON A STREET WITH A 50 MPH SPEED LIMIT. THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY GO 20 MPH AND THERE WAS NO SHOULDER FOR HIM TO PULL OVER. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAILED WAVE PLATE. AND FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN READING, A VERY COMMON FAILURE. THE REPAIR INVOLVED A TRANSMISSION REBUILD AND COST US $2,800. GM REFUSED ANY COMPENSATION. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS THAT A COMPANY WOULD NOT STAND BY AN OBVIOUSLY DEFECT ISSUE IN ITS PRODUCT. *TR
TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING. I WOULD PULL OUT ONTO A STREET AND IT WOULD SLIP AND I ALMOST GOT HIS BY A CAR. I TOOK IT IN REPEATEDLY TO DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE AND AFTER REPEATEDLY TAKING IT BACK AND THEM KEEPING IT FOR A MONTH THEY FINALLY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. REPEATED STEERING ISSUES. I TOOK IT IN CONSTANTLY AND WAS TOLD NOTHING WRONG BUT AFTER LOOKING AT IT MYSELF I FOUND MELTED BUSHING AND AFTER BEING TOLD ALL THAT HAD BEEN REPLACED ALREADY. STEERING PROBLEMS FROM DAY 1. 4 TIMES OF HAVING POWER STEERING REPLACED AND STEERING COLUMN AND EVERY TIME I GOT THE VEHICLE BACK THE VIBRATION WAS WORSE, TODAY I FOUND THE PROBLEM ON MY OWN. THE RACK AND PINION HAS A MAJOR LEAK. NOT SURE HOW REPEATED TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULDN'T SEE THIS. MY STEERING ALSO LOCKS UP WHILE DRIVING ALMOST HIT A CAR..AND THE DEALERSHIP NEVER HAS LOANERS SO IM STUCK DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE WHILE I WAIT BECAUSE I WAS TOLD I CAN ONLY GO WHERE I BOUGHT MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THIS VEHICLE GOES IN TO THE SHOP AND AS SOON AS IT IS PICKED UP IT NEEDS TO GO RIGHT BACK THE SAME DAY. WORST VEHICLE AND MOST UNSAFE OF ANYTHING I'VE EVER OWNED. *TR
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION ON A CAR WITH JUST OVER 55000 MILES. THE WINDOWS LEAK WHEN SITTING OUTSIDE IN THE RAIN. THE POWER STEERING LOCKS UP WHEN YOU DRIVE THRU A PUDDLE. THE BRAKING SYSTEM MAKES SOME GOD AWFUL NOISE WHEN GOING ON OR OFF A RAMP. THIS WAS OUR VERY FIRST BRAND NEW OFF THE LINE CAR. REALLY WISH WE HAD WAITED UNTIL THE BUGS WERE WORKED OUT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A A 2008 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE SERVICE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND WAS ALSO DISPLAYED ACROSS THE MESSAGE BOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR UNDERNEATH THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
WATER WATER WATER LEAKING IN VEHIVLE EVERYWHERE. DRIPPING FROM REAR OVERHEAD LIGHTS, REAR BACK-UP SENSOR, AROUND EMERGENCY BRAKE, A-PILLARS ARE SOAKED, POOLING ON DRIVER SIDE FLOOR. WATER AND ELECTRICAL = NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS AND MORE PROBLEMS. THIS IS NOW OUR SECOND ACADIA IN THE LAST MONTH FIRST WAS A 07 WHICH WATER WAS ALSO LEAKING FROM EVEN MORE AREAS (OPENED OVERHEAD DVD AND WATER JUST POURED OUT). THAT VEHICLE WAS FIXED PER TSB YET PROBLEM NEVER SOLVED IT JUST CONTINUED TO LEAK. DEALERSHIP BOUGHT IT BACK ONCE THEY FOUND US A DIFFERENT ACADIA WHICH I NOW HAVE A 08. THEY SAID THEY FOUND OUT THAT THE 07'S WATER LEAKING WAS A MAJOR ISSUE BUT NOT WITH THE 08'S. WELL WE SIGNED THE PAPERS ON MARCH 1ST AND NO SUPRISE WATER LEAKING EVERYWHERE BY MARCH 10TH. I CONTACTED GMC AND WAS TOLD TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AND THEN THEY WILL PASS IT ON TO SOME OTHER DEPARTMENT CLAIM SPECILIST PERSON TO SEE IF THEY CAN HELP. OH YEAH AND FOUND OUT FROM GMC THAT THE TSB FOR DRAIN TUBE EXTENSIONS HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE ON VEHICLE. I AM HOPEFULL THAT GMC WILL TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE AT THEIR EXPENSE. ---WITH THE FIRST VEHICLE, AFTER WATER ISSUE STARTED MY WIFE WOULD BE DRIVING AND THE POWER SEAT WOULD MOVE ALL THE WAY FORWARD AND SHE COULD NOT STOP THAT FROM HAPPENING. SHE TRIED TO HIT THE BUTTON TO STOP THE SEAT FROM MOVING BUT IT WAS NON RESPONSIVE UNTIL THE SEAT WAS ALL THEY WAY FORWARD. MY WIFE AS VERY LONG LEGS AND SAID IF SHE WOULD HAVE HAD TO MAKE ANY SORT OF EMERGENCY MANOVERS SHE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO. IF GMC DOES NOT RESLOVE THIS ISSUE I PLAN ON START THE PROCESS OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR ALL AFFECTED ACADIA OWNERS. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2008 GMC ACADIA ONE YEAR AGO. IT SEEMED LIKE WE HAD MADE A GOD SENT DEAL AND NOW WE ARE FINDING OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT. OUR FAMILY DOESN'T HAVE A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY TO JUST THROW AWAY AND WE PUT DOWN $5000 AND NOW WE ARE LOOKING DOWN THE BARREL OF A TRANSMISSION. NOT FAIR CONSIDERING THE DEALERSHIP APPARENTLY KNEW IT WAS ABOUT TO GO OUT. I WAS DRIVING WITH 3 OTHER TEENS IN MY CAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WOULDN'T GO FASTER THAN 25 MPH. *TR
OUR VEHICLE SAT OUT IN THE RAIN FOR SEVERAL HOURS BECAUSE WE WERE AT OUR DAUGHTER'S SPORTING EVENT IN ANOTHER TOWN. WHEN WE CAME BACK TO OUR VEHICLE TO DRIVE HOME, WE NOTICED THE CARPET WAS WET AND WHEN MY HUSBAND PULLED FORWARD WATER BEGAN TO COME OUT OF BOTH THE THIRD ROW LIGHT AND SEATBELTS. WE DID OUR BEST TO CLEAN THE WATER UP AND PLANNED ON CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP AS SOON AS WE COULD. WE DROVE THE CAR TO WORK THE FOLLOWING MORNING AS THIS IS OUR MAIN VEHICLE AND WHEN MY HUSBAND SHUT OFF THE CAR HE NOTICED THAT IT WAS MAKING A STRANGE NOISE. WHEN HE TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR IT WOULD NOT START. WE ATTEMPTED TO JUMP THE CAR, BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. WE ENDED UP CONTACTING A TOWING COMPANY TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. AFTER A MONTH OF OUR CAR BEING OUT OF COMMISSION, GM AND THE DEALERSHIP HAVE DETERMINED THAT THERE IS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE AND WE WILL NEED TO HAVE THE WIRING AND CIRCUIT BOARDS REPLACED AT A COST OF $6000. GM HAS COMPLETELY WASHED THEIRS HANDS OF THIS AND CONTINUES TO SAY IT IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE AND WE DIDN'T MAINTAIN THE SUNROOF PROPERLY (ALTHOUGH NO DOCUMENTATION WAS GIVEN TO INFORM US THAT THIS NEEDED TO HAPPEN) AND CLEARLY THEY KNOW OF THE DESIGN FLAW SINCE THEY RECALLED IT ONCE FOR A LEAKY ROOF (WE HAD THE RECALL DONE). THERE ARE DOCUMENTED MOLD ISSUES (WHICH MAKE PEOPLE SICK), AIRBAGS THAT HAVE QUIT WORKING, DEFROSTER MOTOR ISSUES IN NORTHERN STATES, IN ADDITION TO A COMPLETE VEHICLE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING IN AN UNDESIRABLE NEIGHBORHOOD. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT 65 MPH WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO PASS A VEHICLE, AND THE ENGINE JUST REVVED NEARLY TO THE REDLINE. I WAS ABLE TO REACH THE EXIT, WHERE I PULLED OVER, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, THEN BACK INTO DRIVE TO START OFF AGAIN. AT THIS POINT, THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO A MIDAS SHOP FOR A CHECK AND THEY STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHOT. CALLED THE LOCAL GMC DEALER AND HAD THE CAR TOWED THERE FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THEY CALLED SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND CONFIRMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $3700. THE CAR IS 24K MILES UNDER WARRANTY MILEAGE, BUT JUST HAPPENS TO BE 5 MONTHS OUTSIDE OF THE 5 YEAR WARRANTY WINDOW. I THEN CALLED GMC CUSTOMER CARE FOR REDRESS AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE. RECEIVED A CALL TODAY AD THEY LEFT A MESSAGE, BUT ONLY TO ASK WHICH DEALERSHIP IT WAS AT, EVEN THOUGH I PROVIDED THAT INFO ON SATURDAY, TO INCLUDE THE PHONE NUMBER TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM SEEMS TO VERY WIDESPREAD BASED ON THE NUMBER OF RESPONSES ON VARIOUS WEBSITES, BUT DOESN'T SEEM THAT IT IS BEING SERIOUSLY ADDRESSED BY GM MANAGEMENT AND IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND APPROACHED A STOP SIGN. ONCE SHE TRIED GOING AGAIN THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND WE HAD TO TOW IT TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT @ 68,000 MILES? ALSO THE WATERPUMP, POWERSTEERING PUMP. MASTER CYLINDER, AS WELL AS SOMETHING WITH AN AIR BAG CONNECTOR. THE AIR BAG CONNECTOR HAS BEEN GOING ON AND OFF FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS SINCE WE BOUGHT IT TWO YEARS AGO AS A GM CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE. I AM NOT SURE HOW THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. *TR
MY SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON & HAS REMAINED ON. WE TOOK THE CAR TO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP & PAID TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT IS OUT OR WARRANTY & WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT OURSELVES. THE PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I'VE HAD MY GMC ACADIA IN FOR SERVICE ON THE TRANSMISSION 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS: SPEED SENSOR, WAVE PLATE, NOW TORQUE CONVERTER. DEALERSHIP RESPONDS THEY ARE COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT, AND THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION IN THESE VEHICLES IS PROMINENT ON GMC ACADIA FORUMS. WHY HAS GM NOT STEPPED UP TO OWN AND FIX THIS COMMON ISSUE?

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR THEN TWO DAYS LATER JUST QUIT IN A DRIVE THRU LANE AT A FAST FOOD. COULDN'T GET INTO ANY GEAR. I HAD TO HAVE PEOPLE PUSH IT OUT TO A SAFE LOCATION. TOWED IT HOME. NOW I HAVE A $18,000 PIECE OF SCRAP METAL SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. *TR
PARTS INSIDE THE POWER STEERING PUMP DESTROYED CAUSING METAL FILINGS IN THE POWER STEERING FLUID. THE FILINGS CAUSED THE THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM TO FAIL RESULTING IN A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING.THE VEHICLE BECAME EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER AND IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED! IN FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR (2013) THE TRANSMISSION IN OUR 2008 GMC ACADIA FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN HOME FROM PRESCHOOL. THANKFULLY I NEVER LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR ALTHOUGH IT WAS EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING AND A VERY DANGEROUS EXPERIENCE TO NOT BE ABLE TO SHIFT INTO ANOTHER GEAR WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF MOVING TRAFFIC ON A BUSY ROAD. I BARELY MADE IT HOME, DROVE WITH MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON, SHAKING AND COUNTING MY BLESSINGS THAT OUR CAR WAS NOT HIT AND WE WERE NOT HURT. WHAT MAKES IT ALL THE MORE UPSETTING IS THAT GM IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WITH 2008 ACADIA MODELS BUT YET HAS NEVER DONE A RECALL ON THE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS IN OUR CARS. GM IS ESSENTIALLY TELLING IT'S CUSTOMERS THAT IT DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR SAFETY OR WELL BEING. THEY ALLOW US TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THEIR CARS EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL DANGER INVOLVED WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SHUTS DOWN. I CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER CAR FOR MY FAMILY RIGHT NOW SO EVERY DAY I LIVE IN FEAR THAT THIS CAR WILL FAIL AGAIN AND PUT US IN DANGER. TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH IN THE FAR LEFT LANE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY. GOING UP A SLIGHT INCLINE I TRIED TO ACCELERATE BUT THE CAR WAS NOT REACTING THEN THE RPMS WOULD SHOOT UP BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT REACT. I HAD TO CROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 20 MPH AFTER THAT AND STRUGGLED AT THAT. I MANAGED TO GET TO A GAS STATION. 1 TOW TRUCK, 1 RENTAL CAR AND NOW $1500 TO REPLACE THE "WAVE PLATES" AND "WAVE HOUSING". ADDITIONAL NOTE - THE CAR BROKE DOWN IN AUGUST 2012 AS WELL. IN THAT INCIDENT THE WATER PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
ON TWO OCCASIONS AFTER PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURNING OFF THE IGNITION, REMOVING THE KEY AND EXITING THE VEHICLE, IT ROLLED BACK AND ONLY STOPPED WHEN DRIVER JUMPED BACK IN AND APPLIED THE BRAKE. THIS OCCURRED ON A FLAT GARAGE SURFACE (NO INCLINE) ON BOTH OCCASIONS, WITH DIFFERENT DRIVERS ON EACH OCCASION. GMC DEALER SAYS THEY CAN NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND THERE IS NOTHING TO REPAIR. THIS VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS, AS IT CAN ROLL BACK UNEXPECTEDLY, POTENTIALLY CAUSING SERIOUS BODILY INJURY OR DEATH, OR DAMAGE TO PHYSICAL PROPERTY. GMC RECALLED THE 2009 ACADIA FOR THE SAME ISSUE PREVIOUSLY, BUT MAINTAINS THERE ARE NO ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD ASSIST WITH PARTIAL REPAIR COSTS. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TRANSMISSION STARTED FAILING AND FINALLY WENT OUT AT 108,000 MILES, SITTING IN OUR DRIVEWAY AND WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO DEALER. GM DEALER REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE LABOR COST US SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS. NOW AT 170,000 MILES, THIS REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION IS NOW GOING OUT. IT STICKS IN LOW SPEED AND THEN OVERHEATS DRIVING 65MPH IN 40DEG WEATHER. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT A STRETCHED TIMING CHAIN HAS TO BE FIXED FIRST, BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION, AT A COST OF $1944. THEY ALSO SAID THE ON BOARD COMPUTER DIDN'T STORE THE NUMEROUS OVERHEATED TRANSMISSION EVENTS THAT BEGAN OCCURRING IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION WAS INSTALLED AT 108,000 MILES. THE GM DEALER IS TRYING TO TELL ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS PROBABLY OK AND THAT THE OVERHEATING IS DUE TO SOME OTHER REASON, BUT HE THEN COULDN'T EVEN GUESS AT WHAT THE OTHER REASONS MIGHT BE! THE FLUID LEVEL IS GOOD, AND THE VEHICLE HAS A TOW PACKAGE WITH A COOLER FOR THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. GM DEALER SAID THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE COVERED BY WARRANTY, WHICH WILL LIKELY MEAN ANOTHER SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLAR LABOR CHARGE ON TOP OF THE SO CALLED STRETCHED TIMING CHAIN COST OF $1,900. THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAS BEEN WHINING FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND IS GETTING LOUD. THE NAVIGATION AND DVD PLAYER SYSTEM FAILED TWICE. MIGHT BE TIME TO TRADE THE VEHICLE FOR SOMETHING MORE RELIABLE. MY WIFE IS GETTING SCARED TO DRIVE IT TOO FAR AND END UP BEING BROKEN DOWN IN ATLANTA TRAFFIC...VERY DANGEROUS. *TR

GMC SAYS POWERSTEERING RACK IS CRACKED IN MY TRUCK. THEY TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE MY TRUCK IS AN "OLDER" MODEL THAT DOES NOT HAVE THE REDESIGNED STEERING ASSEMBLY IN IT, MY TRUCK REPAIRS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. THEY ALSO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2008-2009 ACADIA MODELS AND ALL THE PROBLEMS SEEM TO HAPPEN RIGHT AROUND THE 50K MILE MARKER, BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. I'VE VISITED COUNTLESS WEBSITES AND READ HUNDREDS OF COMMENTS FROM PEOPLE WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM I'M HAVING YET GMC REFUSES TO CORRECT WHAT IS CLEARLY A MISTAKE ON THEIR PART IN THE DESIGN OF THEIR VEHICLE. I'VE ALSO READ COMMENTS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAD THE SCARY RESULT OF TOTAL POWERSTEERING LOSS AS A RESULT OF THIS ISSUE. WATER LEAK FROM EITHER SUNROOF DRAIN TUBE OR FAULTY SEAM SEAL, CAUSED WATER TO COME INTO VEHICLE CAUSING FLOORS AND DOORMATS TO BE WET AND CAUSE MOLDY ODOR. ALSO CAUSED MAJOR CORROSION TO HARNESS AND FUSE BOX. TOLD THERE COULD BE MORE CORROSION, BUT WON'T KNOW UNTIL THEY PULL THOSE PARTS OUT. I HAVE RESEARCHED WATER LEAK RECALLS FOR GMC ACADIA'S, AND ALTHOUGH IT IS CURRENTLY NOT A RECALL, IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT HAPPENS IN MANY ACADIA'S, THEREFORE, I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE MADE A RECALL! I AM TOLD THAT WATER LEAKS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER MY LIMITED WARRANTY AND THEY ONLY OFFERED TO GO HALF WITH ME ON THE REPAIRS. TOLD IT WILL BE BETWEEN $900-$1,600. DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED AND WARNING LIGHT CAME ON THAT NEEDED TO SERVICE BRAKES. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL JOHN ELWAY CHEVY DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE RIGHT OF WAY. THEY CAME BACK THAT THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER WAS LEAKING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I AM 63, PROBABLY HAVE HAD OVER 15 BRANDS OF CARS THAT I DRIVE TO AT LEAST 125,000 MILES AND NEVER REPLACED A MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER. I WENT ON EDMUNDS.COM ONLINE AND READ MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER ACADIA OWNERS WITH EVEN NEWER MODELS WITH SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED GM AND ASKED FOR THEM TO PAY FOR REPAIR, THEY REFUSED. THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME WHERE THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER WAS LEAKING. HE INDICATED THAT IT IS GLUED TOGETHER. *TR
IN THE WINTER OF 2012, THE STEERING STARTED TO GET MORE DIFFICULT WHILE PARKING AND BACKING OUT OF SPACES. IT WHINED A BIT. SERVICE AT COLLECTION AUTO TOLD ME TO REPLACE THE POSITION SENSOR. NO CHANGE. THE STEERING GOT WORSE, FLUID BEGAN LEAKING, AND I WAS INVOLVED IN TWO NEAR CRASHES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR. ONE THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT UPON ENTERING A FREEWAY RAMP. IT RETURNED TO NORMAL AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS. IT THEN AGAIN HAPPENED, BUT TOTAL STEERING FAILURE WHILE TURNING INTO A SHOPPING CENTER ACROSS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. WE TOOK IT BACK AND WERE TOLD THAT THE PUMP AND RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER A GOOD DEAL OF DIGGING AND SPEAKING WITH SEVERAL DEALERS OTHER THAN THE ONE THAT RECOMMENDED THE CHANGE FOR PUMP AND RACK AND PINION, WE FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS NO NEED TO REPLACE THE POSITION SENSOR AND THERE WERE SEVERAL SERVICE BULLETINS TO DEALERS TO REPLACE THESE WITH REDESIGNED PARTS DATING TO 2012. IT CURRENTLY IS AT A DEALER WHO IS WORKING WITH GM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT I HAVE MOLD ISSUES. I CAN ONLY ASSUME MY AIRBAGS WONT WORK. I ALSO FIGURE WITH ALL THE WIRING WET ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ARCADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MOVE. THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INFORMED HER THE REVERSE WAVE PLATE HAD FRACTURED AND THE REVERSE CLUTCH FOUR, FIVE AND SIX HOUSING WERE DAMAGED. AS A RESULT, THE HOUSINGS HAD TO BE RECONDITIONED AND THE REACTION SUN GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. RECENTLY, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED AT THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD CONTACT HER WITHIN TWENTY FOUR HOURS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,450 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE 2008 GMC ACADIA AND SIMILAR GM VEHICLES, AS I WAS DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY OUT OF TOWN WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY HAD PROBLEMS SHIFTING IN AND OUT OF GEARS. WHILE DRIVING THE WEEKEND AFTER THANKSGIVING AND APPROXIMATELY 4 HOURS FROM HOME, OUR 2008 GMC ACADIA STARTED DOWN-SHIFTING HARD AFTER PASSING A VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY. A FEW MINUTES LATER THIS REPEATED, AND THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SOON AFTER, WHEN ALMOST TO OUR DESTINATION, THE VEHICLE HAD NO POWER TO GET UP HILLS ON THE HIGHWAY, AND ONCE WE EXITED, COULD BARELY MAKE IT OFF THE EXIT RAMP AND THROUGH A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION. IT SEEMED TO BE STUCK IN A HIGH GEAR. BEING LATE FRIDAY AFTERNOON ON A HOLIDAY WEEKEND AND NOW IN A RURAL AREA, THERE WEREN'T ANY REPAIR SHOPS THAT WERE EITHER OPEN OR COULD LOOK AT IT. SO WE HAD TO RENT A CAR AND ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THE ACADIA BACK ANOTHER 40-50 MILES TO GET TO A CHEVY DEALER THAT WAS OPEN AND COULD AT LEAST CHECKOUT THE TRANSMISSION. ON SATURDAY THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION, AND SPECIFICALLY THE 3-5-R WAVE PLATE, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T BE READY UNTIL THE FOLLOWING WEEK. LATER I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM, BUT IT STILL WASN'T BEING RECALLED BY GM. LUCKILY WE WERE BARELY (1 MONTH) INSIDE OF OUR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AND DIDN'T GET HURT. I WILL SAY THAT THE CHEVY DEALER THAT DID THE REPAIR WAS GREAT TO WORK WITH, ESPECIALLY SINCE WE WERE FROM OUT OF TOWN. BUT NOW I'M WORRIED ABOUT BEING ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE THIS VEHICLE FOR ANY SIGNIFICANT DISTANCE FROM OUR HOME. *TR
WE WERE COMING HOME FROM FAMILY ON THANKSGIVING NIGHT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WE WERE GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN WE GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND ONTO OUR EXIT, WE HIT A RED LIGHT. LUCKILY, IT WAS ON A HILL, BECAUSE MY HUSBAND HIT THE GAS AND WE DIDN'T GO ANYWHERE. THE CAR JUST REVVED UP TO AROUND 4 RPM'S. WE FINALLY GAINED SOME MOMENTUM GOING DOWN THE HILL AND THEN THE CAR DROVE JUST FINE AGAIN. NEXT STOP LIGHT, SAME THING...ONLY THIS TIME, WE WERE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AND FACING ON-COMING TRAFFIC. IT TOOK EVERYTHING IT HAD AND ABOUT 20 SECONDS JUST TO ROLL THROUGH THE INTERSECTION! IF OUR KIDS HAD BEEN IN THE CAR WITH US, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT IF WE HAD BEEN HIT! THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE MECHANICS AND WAS FOUND TO BE A BROKEN WAVE PLATE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE WAVE PLATES IN THE ACADIA'S, TRAVERSE'S, AND THE OUTLOOK'S, BUT NO RECALL. BEEN GOING THROUGH FORUMS AND KNOW A FEW PEOPLE WHO HAVE PURCHASED ACADIA'S AND THE TRANSMISSION GIVES OUT ON THESE CARS REALLY QUICK AND IT'S A 5000 DOLLAR FIX THAT GMC KNOWS ABOUT AND REFUSES TO FIX AND AT 50,000 MILES THEIR IS NO REASON YOU SHOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION I PERSONALLY AM TWO WEEKS OUT OF WARRANTY WITH A 22000 DOLLAR SITTING BRICK AND EXPECTED TO PAY FOR POOR PRODUCTION QUALITY THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED ON THE NATIONAL LEVEL AND IS EXTREMELY UNFAIR TO LOYAL TAX PAYERS TO BE ALMOST ROBBED IN PLAIN DAYLIGHT. *TR
DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHTS OVERHEAT BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES. THERE IS EVIDENCE THAT BOTH BULB SOCKETS HAVE OVERHEATED AND THE LIGHT HOUSING HAS CRACKED FROM THE OVERHEATING. WITH THE BULB AND SOCKET OVERHEATING THIS HAS THE POSSIBILITY OF CAUSING A FIRE, WITH EVIDENCE BEING THE CRACKED LAMP HOUSING FORM THE HEAT. I HAVE REPLACED THE BULBS ON BOTH SIDES ALWAYS USING DIELECTRIC GREASE. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE 2010 AND REPLACED THE RIGHT SIDE BULB 3 TIMES AND NOW ON THE LEFT SIDE 4 TIMES. THERE IS A FACTORY RECALL ON OTHER YEAR MODELS BUT NOT ON THE 2008 GMC ACADIA SLT-2 HAVING EVERY BELL AND WHISTLE. IT WAS MONDAY, NOV. 19, 2012 WHEN THIS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE HAPPENED AGAIN. *TR
WARNING INDICATORS TURN ON FOR THE SYSTEM BRAKING COMPONENTS SUCH AS ABS BRAKE FAILURE, TRACTION CONTROL AND LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WHILE ACCELERATING BETWEEN 35 TO 50 MILES PER HOUR. ENGINE POWER DECREASE AND THE CAR SPEED AND POWER IS DECREASED WITH THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WARNING. THE CAR WOULD JUST STOP AT THIS POINT. I CONTACTED ONSTAR EACH TIME THIS ISSUE OCCURRED TO A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN AND EACH REPORT INDICATED THAT SAME WARNING REPORTED ON THE CONSOLE. AFTER 10 MINUTES THE VEHICLE WOULD RE-START AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT. THIS ISSUE HAS RE-OCCURRED WITHIN 2 YEARS AND THE GMC SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BUT DURING THE LATEST INCIDENT THE MECHANIC HAD RULED THE ISSUE AS LOW BRAKE FLUID. I'VE INVESTIGATED THIS ISSUE ONLINE ON VARIOUS BLOG FORUMS FOR THE GMC ACADIA WITH THE SAME DESCRIPTION OF BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE AND OTHERS REPORT THE FAILURE AS AN INTERNAL BRAKING MALFUNCTION IN WHICH THE MASTER CYLINDER LEAKS INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER. I'M CONCERNED THAT THIS PROBLEM COULD POTENTIAL BECOME FATAL IS IT RECURS. THE GMC SERVICE DEPARTMENT REFUSE TO LOOK INTO MY CONCERN AND INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, HE HEARD A LOUD POP FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE RACK AND PINION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE RACK AND PINION, STEERING SHAFT AND THE STEERING COLUMN WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIRS. PICKING UP MY CAR AFTER AN OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION AT THE DEALER, THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON THE VEHICLE AND I WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION OR MORE SPECIFICALLY THE WAVE PLATE IN THE TRANSMISSION BROKE. IT'S BEEN AT THE DEALER GOING INTO THE SECOND WEEK NOW. THEY ARE STILL HAVING A SHIFTING ISSUE. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER ON ITS OWN, AND DOWN SHIFTS TO FIRST GEAR AT TIMES, WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO SHIFT INTO HIGHER GEARS. ALSO AT TIMES, YOU PULL UP TO A INTERSECTION, AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PULL OFF UNDER ITS OWN POWER. VEHICLE HAS 80,000 MILES ON IT, WITH A 100,000 MILE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. GM SAYS THE WARRANTY WENT OUT IN OCTOBER OF 2012. THE VEHICLE HAS MULTIPLE HISTORY OF GM REPROGRAMMING THE TRANSMISSION, AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED REGULAR. *TR
