POWER STEERING FAILURE. IT IS INTERMITTENT. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. GM KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM. THE ACADIA IS IN THE SHOP TO BE FIXED. NHTSA MUST INVESTIGATE. *TR
VEHICLE BECOMES ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER AT LOW SPEEDS. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. BECOMING MORE FREQUENT AND OCCURRING AT HIGHER SPEEDS. VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, ESPECIALLY WHEN STOPPED AND ATTEMPTING TO TURN OUT INTO TRAFFIC. *TR
AT LOW SPEEDS POWER STEERING QUITS? EXTREMELY DANGEROUS MY WIFE ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT. *JS
WHILE TURNING CORNERS, POWER STEERING LOCKS MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEEL. FEELS VERY DANGEROUS AS YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO OCCUR. I AM GETTING TO A POINT WHERE I AM GETTING NERVOUS TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. ESPECIALLY WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR! THIS OCCURS EVEN IF THE VEHICLE IS WARM AND ALSO AFTER A COLD START. IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT GM HAS NOT DONE A RECALL. I WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC THE POWER STEERING RACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, BUT I HAVE ALSO SEEN OTHER ONLINE COMPLAINTS THE PUMP ALSO NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS REPAIR IS VERY COSTLY AND MY TRUCK IS NOT THAT OLD! I HAVE ALREADY BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE PREVIOUSLY NAMED RECALLS. *TR
WHEN PULLING INTO PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER STEERING AND WILL NOT TURN ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WHEN TURNING WHEN IT LOSES POWER STEERING. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE AND NEEDS A RECALL. *TR
THE STEERING RACK LEAKS AND FAILS AFTER THE POWER STEERING PUMP GOES OUT DUE TO AN INTERNAL FAILURE. THERE IS A BAD DESIGN IN THE RACK CAUSING THE CAR TO LOSE POWER AT LOW SPEEDS AND WILL CAUSE BODILY HARM IF NOT REPAIRED. GM KNOWS THERE IS A BAD DESIGN OF THIS STEERING RACK AND REFUSES TO REPAIR AT THEIR COST. THEY WILL ONLY REPLACE THE PUMP WHEN THE RACK IS THE BIGGEST COST TO REPAIR. *TR
WAS TURNING LEFT INTO A PARKING LOT AND THERE WAS NO ASSIST FROM THE POWER STEERING. IT WAS ALMOST AS IF IT WAS LOCKING UP. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURRING SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK SINCE THEN, USUALLY AT LOW SPEEDS. THERE HAVE BEEN A COUPLE OF CLOSE CALLS TO HITTING OTHER VEHICLES AS THIS ISSUE SURFACES WITH NO WARNING. I ASKED LAFONTAINE IN HIGHLAND MI TO LOOK AT IT WHEN I WAS HAVING WATER PUMP ISSUES. IT SEEMS THERE WAS NO TRUE INVESTIGATION ON THE ISSUE, JUST THAT IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO CHANGE THE R&P, EVEN THOUGH THAT MAY NOT BE THE ISSUE. I ISSUED A COMPLAINT TO GM CUSTOMER SERVICE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP AGAIN FOR A TRANSMISSION MODULE REPLACEMENT. AGAIN, NO CONCERN FROM GM THAT THE STEERING FAILS WITHOUT WARNING. LOSS OF STEERING IS A VERY BIG SAFETY CONCERN. I AM TRYING TO SELL OR TRADE IN THE VEHICLE AS I DO NOT FEEL SAFE HAVING MY WIFE AND KISS IN THE CAR. *TR
VEHICLE LOOSES POWER STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS. *TR
WHEN DRIVING SUCH AS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT, THE STEERING LOCKS UP FORCING ME TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES. THIS MALFUNCTION HAPPENS PERIODICALLY IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS. I HAVE CHECKED MY POWER STEERING FLUID AND IT IS AT THE FULL MARK. I BELIEVE THE SYSTEM IN THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A LARGE ENOUGH RESERVOIR WHICH CAUSES THE RACK AND PINION TO LOCK UP IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN. *TR
THE GMC ACADIA HAS RECENTLY HAD A RECALL FOR A PIECE WITHIN THE SEAT FOR AIR BAGS. HOWEVER THERE IS ANOTHER PIECE CALLED THE PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE (PART #20933923) WITHIN THE SAME SEAT THAT IS ALSO DEFECTIVE BUT NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL. THIS PIECE BASICALLY DETERMINES IF SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT AND IF THE AIRBAGS NEED TO BE DEPLOYED IF IN AN ACCIDENT. IF THIS PIECE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY THE PERSON SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT MAY BE AT RISK. THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT NOR HAVE THE AIRBAGS EVER BEEN DEPLOYED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 GMC ACADIA. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
WHILE TURNING AT AN INTERSECTION AT A RELATIVELY SLOW SPEED, THE POWER STEERING FAILED MOMENTARILY (APPROXIMATELY 3 SECONDS) MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SMOOTHLY CORRECT THE TURN. FORTUNATELY, POWER STEERING RESUMED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE SAME DAY WHILE TURNING INTO A DRIVEWAY. I PROMPTLY RETURNED THE CAR TO OUR GMC SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE A POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK WAS DISCOVERED IN THE POWER STEERING GEARBOX. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. GIVEN YOUR HISTORY OF THE SAME PROBLEM, IT IS NOT UNDERSTOOD WHY THIS IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL ISSUE. *TR
THE POWER STEERING FAILS AT LOW SPEED TURNS, APPROXIMATELY 2-30 MPH.. WITH THE FAILURE, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO SAFELY OPERATE THE VEHICLE. UPON RECOVERY OF THE POWER STEERING, I NEARLY LOSE CONTROL FROM OVERCOMPENSATION FOR TRYING TO TURN THE WHEEL WITH ALL MY STRENGTH. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND UNPREDICTABLE. THERE ARE TOO MANY COMPLAINTS WITH GMC AND THE NTSHA TO CONTINUE WITHOUT A RECALL. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 GMC ARCADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 20 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND SYSTEM FLUID NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
DRIVING INTO A SMALL DOWNTOWN AREA TO MEET SOME FRIENDS AND HEARD A WHIRLING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD (BELT, BEARING OR POWER STEERING). AS I SLOWED DOWN THE NOISE INTENSIFIED, DISSIPATED AS I SPED UP. NOTICE THE STEERING WAS TIGHTER AND MORE DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT SLOWER SPEEDS. THE NEXT DAY I ATTEMPTED TO "CHECK THE FLUID" SECURED UNDER THE ENGINE COVER BUT WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE IT EVEN WITH THE STAR BIT REQUIRED. I THEN GOOGLE'D AUTO-STEERING FOR ACADIA AND FOUND NUMEROUS ISSUES RELATED TO FAILING POWER STEERING UNITS. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FRUSTRATED AFTER FINDING THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PART FAILURE. HE STATED THAT THE BELLOW WAS LEAKING DUE TO A FAILURE (THE POWER STEERING IS UNDER A LOT OF PRESSURE I WAS TOLD) AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP COMPLETED THE REPAIR AFTER KEEPING THE CAR A DAY. SEEMS TO ME THIS IS A POTENTIAL TICKING TIME BOMB AND THE PART MAY HAVE BEEN UNDER ENGINEERED. I HAVE BEEN A LONG TIME GM CUSTOMER BUT WITH ALL THE CURRENT PRESS I'M NOT SURE I CAN SUPPORT THEM ANY LONGER WITH MY PATRONAGE. *TR
I STARTED EXPERIENCED STEERING PROBLEMS WITH MY ACADIA WHEN TRAVELING AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN TURNING INTO MY DRIVEWAY OR WHEN PARKING. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD START TO BIND AND TURNING BECAME VERY STIFF. I CHECKED THE POWER STEERING FLUID AND IT WAS LOW SO I ADDED FLUID. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. NOW IT HAS BECOME EVEN WORSE AND OCCURS MORE FREQUENTLY (I.E. WHEN I AM MAKING A SHARP TURN AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, PARKING, AND AT LOW SPEEDS ON ANY SHARP CURVE IN THE ROAD). I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED GMC DEALER AND HAD IT EVALUATED AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS "A GEAR GOING BAD IN THE POWER STEERING PUMP" AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. MY VEHICLE IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD. I DIDN'T EXPECT A PROBLEM LIKE THIS IN MY VEHICLE. I AM TRYING TO GET THE PUMP REPLACED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE BEFORE I HAVE A WRECK BECAUSE OF THE STEERING ISSUES. *TR
I HAVE HAD 3 RECALLS ON MY 4 YEAR OLD ACADIA IN THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS AND ALSO HAD TO REPLACE MY POWER STEERING AT LESS THAN 65,000 MILES. MY CAR IS BACK AT THE DEALER FOR THE THIRD TIME IN LESS THAN 10 DAYS FOR THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT AFTER THEY HAVE ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE RECALL. ALTHOUGH NO SPECIFIC SAFETY INCIDENT, MY CONCERNS WITH THE ABILITY OF THE DEALER/AUTOMAKER TO PROVIDE A SAFE VEHICLE AND WELL AS THE OVERALL LACK OF RELIABILITY OF THE CAR IN LESS THAN 4 YEARS IS BOTH DISAPPOINTING AND CONCERNING. I AM CURRENTLY IN TOUCH WITH GMC ABOUT MY OPTIONS. *TR
POWER STEERING GOES OUT INTERMITTENTLY AT LOW SPEEDS. SPECIFICALLY WHEN TURNING CORNERS OR PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. SOME TIMES I CAN'T EVEN TURN THE WHEEL. WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE STEERING GEAR NEEDED REPLACING AND IT WOULD COST $2000, AND WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I BROUGHT IT TO A LOCAL CAR REPAIR SHOP, AND THEY REPLACED IT FOR $1700, BUT THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I AM HESITANT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE SINCE I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN. THE NHTSA NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE, SINCE THE MAJORITY OF THE COMPLAINTS FOR THIS VEHICLE ARE RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 GMC ACADIA. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT 20 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SIX DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AS HAVING LOW POWER STEERING OUTPUT PRESSURE AND STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000. UPDATED 09/05/14*LJ THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. UPDATED 12/17/2014 *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 GMC ACADIA. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT HAD TO FORCEFULLY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
VEHICLE IS LOW MILEAGE 62,500 MILES JUST PAST 5 YEARS BY 3 MONTHS. TIMING CHAIN STARTED MAKING NOISE FOR ABOUT A TWO WEEKS AND GET LOUDER AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON DUE TO MIS FIRE. VEHICLE IS DRIVEN BY MIDDLE AGE FEMALE WITH NOT EVEN A MINOR ACCIDENT IN 35 YEARS. VEHICLE WAS MAINTAINED WITH REGULAR OIL CHANGES. NO APPARENT REASON FOR THE TIMING CHAIN TO MAKE NOISE TO THE POINT OF MISFIRE. CALLED DEALER, BOB ROSS GMC IN DAYTON OHIO ON LOOP ROAD AND THEY REFUSED TO HELP OUT, CLAIMING THAT IT OUT OF WARRANTY, TOO BAD SIR. CALLED GM AND WAS TOLD SAME. WE ASKED IF THEY HAVE ANY REPORTED PROBLEM ON SAME ISSUE AND WAS TOLD NO. WELL, THEY LIED TO ME OR NOT EVEN CHECKING. I CHECKED THIS SITE AND THERE WERE THREE REPORTS OF SAME TIMING CHAIN. NEED TO HOLD DEALER AND GM TO OWN UP TO THEIR DEFECTED PARTS. NO RULE MADE THEM TO DO THAT. I AM VOTING WITH MY FEET. NEVER BUY A GM VEHICLE AGAIN !!!!!! *TR
I FILED MY INITIAL COMPLAINT OVER THE PHONE BUT I'D LIKE TO ADD A FEW MORE DETAILS. AFTER GETTING NOWHERE WITH GMC CORPORATE I DID MY OWN RESEARCH UNCOVERING THERE IS A "CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT" (I HAVE THIS DOCUMENT AND CAN FORWARD IF NEEDED) IN PLACE FOR MULTIPLE GMC VEHICLES FOR THE STEERING ISSUE. GMC HAS PUBLICLY ADMITTED TO INSTALLING WRONG SIZE POWER STEERING PUMP! IN ADDITION, THE POWER STEERING CABLE, A LOOSE RIVET IN STEERING COLUMN, POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING, AND/OR NO OR LOW PRESSURE ALL HAVE BEEN THE SITED AS A "POSSIBLE" CAUSE! *MY POINT BEING FIXING ALL OF THESE ISSUES WILL COST OWNERS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND MOST DON'T HAVE THIS MONEY. GMC NEEDS TO RECALL THIS ISSUE ASAP! GMC HAS RECALLED NUMEROUS OTHER NON-LIFETHREATENING ISSUES WITH THEIR VEHICLES. LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHEN TURNING LEFT ON A MAIN ROAD OR AT ANY OTHER TIME CAN AND WILL RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR FATALITY!! THIS IS SERIOUS AND NEEDS TO BE MADE A PRIORITY ADDRESSED ASAP! *TR
GRINDING NOISE CAME FROM STEERING COLUMN. DEALER REPLACED STEERING GEAR UNDER WARRANTY. NOISE CAME BACK AT 47,535 MILES AND DEALER REPLACED STEERING HOUSING IN A KIT. POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THIS TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
WHILE MAKING LOW SPEED TURNS WHILE IN MOTION THE POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY WILL CUT OUT. WHEN IT FIRST START TO OCCUR IT WOULD CUT OUT BRIEFLY BEFORE RE-ENGAGING. THE ISSUE WAS BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE GMC DEALER WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR IN TO HAVE THE STEERING RACK REPLACED; I WAS TOLD IT WAS PROBABLY DUE TO LOW FLUIDS BUT THEY WOULD CHECK IT OUT. AFTER I PICKED MY CAR UP, THE PROBLEM DID NOT ARISE FOR ME AGAIN FOR 1.5 WEEKS. HOWEVER, IT IS WORSE, THE POWER STEERING CUTS OUT UNEXPECTEDLY AFTER HAVING ALREADY STARTED TO TURN THE WHEEL AT LOW SPEED IN-MOTION TURNS AND DOES NOT RE-ENGAGE UNTIL AFTER THE WHEEL HAS RETURNED TO THE NEUTRAL POSITION. *TR
POWER STEERING PUMP IS MAKING LOTS OF NOISE WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL. CURRENTLY AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANYWHERE DUE TO POTENTIAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE BECAME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHILE TRYING TO ATTEMPT A RIGHT TURN ON A GREEN LIGHT AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH MY STEERING WHEEL DID NOT TURN. THIS WAS COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED AND I WAS CAUGHT OFF GUARD BUT MANAGED TO STOP THE VEHICLE INCHES AWAY FROM TRAFFIC COMING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICING AND WAS TOLD THE R&P NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS DONE BUT THE ISSUE PERSISTS. THE DEALER CLAIMS THEY CAN NOT FIND ANY ISSUES WITH MY STEERING EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE BEEN ON TEST DRIVES WHERE THE STEERING LOCKS UP. TO THIS DAY THE PROBLEM CONTINUES ONLY AT LOW SPEEDS, BUT I WILL NOT LET MY FAMILY TRAVEL IN THIS VEHICLE. *TR
THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE I'VE BOUGHT THIS TRUCK LAST YEAR. RIGHT AFTER I BOUGHT IT, I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE THE POWER STEERING BOX REPLACED ($1200.00) SINCE THEN, WHILE DRIVING MY STEERING GETS HARD TO TURN EITHER WAY AND THE ENGINE EVEN STOPPED RUNNING A FEW WEEKS AGO WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE, I HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. THE TRUCK ALSO MAKES A POPPING SOUND WHILE TURNING TOO. SINCE I HAVE BOUGHT THE TRUCK, I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS, WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF BUYING IT, I HAD TRANSMISSION LEAK AND OIL LEAK THAT HAD TO BE FIXED. I WANT SO BAD TO GET OUT OF THIS TRUCK. I AM THE SOLE PROVIDER IN MY HOME, SINGLE MOTHER OF 3 KIDS AND THIS VEHICLE IS USED FOR OUR DAILY COMMUTES AND MY JOB. WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO COME TO A STOP THE TRUCK ALSO LUNGES FORWARD A FEW TIMES BEFORE STOPPING COMPLETELY. ALSO WHEN GOING DOWN THE ROAD THE RPM WILL LUNGE UP FOR NO REASON AND YOU CAN HEAR IT LIKE IT IS TRYING TO SHIFT TO A HIGHER GEAR OR LIKE I HAVE PRESSED THE GAS, WHICH I HAD NOT. *TR
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING LOSS OF STEERING WITH MY 2010 GMC ACADIA FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOST WHEN I AM AT LOW SPEEDS AND TURNING, ESPECIALLY INTO PARKING SPOTS, AND MY GARAGE. THE STEERING GETS SO TIGHT IT MAKES IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. I USE MY CAR SOLELY AS A MEANS FOR TRANSPORTATION FOR KIDS...WHY HAS GMC NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THIS? YOU READ POST AFTER POST ON MAY DIFFERENT WEBSITES AND BLOGS ABOUT THE EXACT SAME SITUATION... SURELY THIS IS A DEFECT THAT GMC NEEDS TO ADDRESS. I AM DISAPPOINTED AND TRULY HOPE THAT GMC WILL ADDRESS THIS ACTION. *TR
HAVE TO REPLACE LOW BEAM LIGHTS EVERY 3-4 MONTHS. LIGHTS BURN OUT. HAVE TRIED MULTIPLE BRANDS ALL FROM ADVANCED AUTO PARTS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 4 YEARS.
AS CAR WAS ACCELERATING TO 30 MPH IN A LANE OF TRAFFIC INTO A TURN, I HEARD A LOUD NOISE. THEN, I COULDN'T MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. I TRIED TO PUMP THE BRAKES, BUT THE CAR DID NOT STOP IMMEDIATELY. I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE STEERING, AND THE CAR EVENTUALLY STOPPED IN A PARKING LOT. I WAS PETRIFIED. THE RADIO WAS STILL ON, AND THE KEY WAS STILL IN THE ON POSITION, BUT THE KEY COULD NOT BE TURNED. GMC SIMI VALLEY SAYS THE PROBLEM WAS A ROD TO A CYLINDER THAT SNAPPED, AND WAS NOT DUE TO AN IGNITION PROBLEM, OR RELATED TO A CURRENT RECALL. THE WHOLE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, ALMOST THE VALUE OF THE CAR, GIVEN ITS CURRENT RESALE VALUE. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST AN INVESTIGATION INTO ANOTHER RECALL EVENT. *TR
THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL REMAIN ON AT TIMES EVEN WHEN THE BRAKES ARE NOT BEING USED. ALSO THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL WILL RANDOMLY TURN OFF (FREQUENTLY) AND THE DEALERSHIPS ARE UNABLE TO TELL ME WHY AND HOW TO FIX IT. THE CRUISE CONTROL AT TIMES WILL NOT WORK. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DEALER SAYS TIMING CHAIN IS BAD AND COULD BE RELATED TO NOT PROPERLY CHANGING OIL. CAR WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW WITH 22 MILES FROM GMC DEALER. OIL WAS CHANGED REGULARLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH PERCENTAGE LEVEL GIVEN FROM COMPUTER IN CAR. *TR
THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT AT LOW SPEED TURNS, WHICH MAKES IT A DIFFICULT AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD. IT IS STARTING GOING OUT AT MEDIUM SPEEDS. *TR
STEERING WAS HARD TO TURN. THE GMC SERVICE DEPT. FOUND THE POWER STEERING COOLING COIL RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING POWER STEERING FLUID TO DRAIN. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT OLD AND SHOULD NOT HAVE RUSTED. *TR
POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE - WHILE APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH THE INTENTION OF TURNING LEFT, I SLOWED DOWN TO A SUITABLE SPEED TO NEGOTIATE THE TURN. SUDDENLY THE STEERING WAS VERY HEAVY AND REQUIRED EXTREME FORCE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO NAVIGATE THE TURN. AFTER THIS INCIDENT I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WAS EXTREMELY HEAVY AT LOW RPM. IF IT HAD BEEN A LESS EXPERIENCED DRIVER BEHIND THE WHEEL, OR IF THE DRIVER WERE TO PANIC I BELIEVE THE OUTCOME OF THIS FAILURE COULD BE MORE SERIOUS. A PANICKED DRIVER MIGHT HIT THE GAS AND CRASH INTO THE TRAFFIC STOPPED AT THE LIGHT COMING FROM THE OTHER DIRECTION, OR STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC FLOW IN A NO-FILTER LEFT TURN JUNCTION. THE SOLUTION WAS TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP, AND JUDGING BY THE NUMBER OF OTHERS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE IT IS A TRUE DEFECT WITH THIS CAR. I BELIEVE THE SOLUTION FOR THIS ISSUE IS TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP WITH A KNOW RELIABLE MODEL. ANOTHER SOLUTION WOULD BE TO IMPLEMENT A MONITORING SYSTEM TO DETECT A FAILING PUMP. *TR
WINDSHIELD DEFROST WILL NOT FUNCTION. AIR ONLY BLOWS FROM DASH VENTS. THE DASH CONTROLS ARE INEFFECTIVE AND WILL NOT CHANGE THE MODE FROM DASH TO FEET OR DEFROST. VISIBILITY WAS SEVERELY IMPAIRED. I AM TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION TOMORROW. *TR
STEERING HAS INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER MAKING VEHICLE CONTROL DIFFICULT. *TR
THE STEERING STARTING MAKING A POPPING OR WHINNING NOISE AT LOW SPEED TURNS OF THE WHEEL. THIS IS THE APPROXIMATE TIME I NOTICED THE NOISE START. *JS
WHILE TRAVELING AT A LOW SPEED WENT TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT AND THE POWER STEERING CUTS OUT AND THEN CUTS BACK IN. ADDED POWER STEERING FLUID GOT BETTER FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND THEN GOT WORSE. HAS BEEN HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY MOSTLY AT LOW SPEED AND IN TURNS. *TR
I HAVE TO KEEP ADDING POWER STEERING FLUID TO MY CAR. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT MY POWER TRAIN WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT GMC IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THE ACADIA'S AND REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
THE TAILGATE OPENED AND ONCE IT WAS COMPLETELY OPEN IT FELL SUDDENLY A FEW FEET AND WITHOUT WARNING. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED AND THEY SAID THEY HAD SEEN THIS ON MULTIPLE TIMES. THEY SAID THE STRUTS GO BAD. THEY REPLACED THE STRUT (SPELLING?) AND IT FIXED THE PROBLEM. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED THAT IF THIS OCCURS WITH SOMEONE ELSE IT COULD HIT THEIR HEAD AND CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY. *TR
GM RECALLED THE POWER STEERING PUMP, BUT DIDN'T RECALL THE RACK. TWO DEALERSHIP QUOTES INDICATED THAT THE PUMP AND RACK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED TO FIX THE PROBLEM OF STEERING GOING OUT. *TR
THE ACADIA LOSES POWER STEERING AT SLOW SPEEDS. TURNING INTO PARKING SPOTS, BACKING UP AND SIMILAR SLOW MOVING MANEUVERS MAKE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE CAR. I HAVE NOT LOCATED MY MODEL LISTED ON THE RECALL LIST AND I WANT YOU TO BE AWARE THAT IT IS ALSO HAVING A POWER STEERING PROBLEM. I AM WAITING FOR A LOANER CAR TO TAKE MY CAR INTO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. *TR

WHILE DRIVING I LOSE POWER STEERING, WHETHER IT'S 10 MILES PER HOUR OR 50 MILES PER HOUR. DIFFICULT TO TURN WHILE DRIVING. IT SEEMS TO HAVE GOTTEN WORSE OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS AND THE POWER STEERING MAKES A NOISE WHILE MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK AT 3-5 MPH, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST BECAME INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND CAUSED THE POWER STEERING TO MALFUNCTION. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN TAKING ANY TYPE OF CORNERS, WHETHER IT BE GOING AROUND A ROUND-ABOUT, TURNING INTO MY DRIVEWAY, OR TURNING TO PARK IN A PARK SPACE THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. THIS HAS BEEN AN UNGROUND PROBLEM FOR 8 MONTHS OR MORE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED GM DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND A TROUBLE CODE, AND UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE CONCERN. RECENTLY THE STEERING ISSUE IS BECOMING WORSE AND I AM CONCERNED WITH DRIVING AND THE SAFETY OF THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. *JS
