Frame rail rust holes, brackets wielded to frame supports for leaf springs wields rusted completely through frame making vehicle unsafe due to the potential leaf springs supports to frame of vehicle breaking away from frame dropping rear of vehicle onto rear axles and tires. Frame of vehicle has a lot of rusting and holes due to the excessive rusting.
The frames on many of these trucks are unsafe to be on the road due to rusted leaf spring mounts and frame rails that are rotting away and unable to lift on a hoist. Luckily I came across a video warning me to watch out for a rusted frame or else I could have lost control while driving. Yes, I work at a gm dealership and see this issue often, they are very similar to the Toyota trucks that had rusted frames replaced under recall. No it has not been inspected but they're is no way that it would pass an annual inspection, therefore the truck is rendered useless. There were no warnings that the frame was almost rotted in half. Very dangerous situation.
NEARLY TOTAL FRAME FAILURE DUE TO POOR STEEL AND EXTREME RUST AND CORROSION OF ENTIRE FRAME. WITH THIS MODEL YEAR OF GMC AND CHEVROLET TRUCKS, THERE ARE A LOT OF REPORTS OF FRAME FAILURES. MY PARTICULAR TRUCK IS SO BADLY RUSTED THAT THE CAB AND BODY COULD POSSIBLY SEPARATE DUE TO FRAME FAILURE. THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN MUCH DURING THE WINTERS AND HAS BEEN GARAGED MOST OF ITS LIFE. THESE FRAMES SHOULDN'T BE THIS BAD ON A 15 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. *TR
ON 6/17/20 AS I WAS TRAVELING UNDER THE ALABASTER, ALABAMA OVER PASS ON HIGHWAY 65 NORTH AN ORANGE CONSTRUCTION BARREL WAS BLOWN INTO THE ROAD BY A TRUCK A HEAD OF ME. I SWERVED IN THE ATTEMPT TO MISS IT. THE BARREL CLIPPED THE PASSENGER SIDE BUMPER AND TORE OUT MY FOG LAMP. THANKFULLY NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. WOULD LIKE MY FOG LAMP REPLACED AND BARRELS NOT IN USE PICKED UP OFF OF THE HIGHWAYS. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE CHANGING THE OIL AT THE RESIDENCE, THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS WERE ALSO SEVERELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO RAISE THE VEHICLE ON THE LIFT, THE FRAME STARTED TO COLLAPSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE 13,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THE WHOLE LEAF SPRING SHACKLE WENT THRU THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK. AFTER LOOKING AT HOW TO REPLACE THIS NOTICED PRETTY MUCH THE WHOLE THING IS RUSTED OUT AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED TO MAKE IT SAFE TO BE ON THE ROAD AGAIN. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE TRUCK FOR SAFETY REASONS
OWNED THE VEHICLE FROM NEW, FRAME STARTED RUSTING AT EVERY WELDMENT FROM DAY ONE. TRIED TO TREAT THE FRAME YEARLY WITH DOOR GREASE TO STOP CORROSION. NO SUCCESS, NOW FRAME IS ROTTED AND IN DANGER OF COLLAPSE.
FRAME CRACKED IN FRONT OF REAR SPRING SHACKLES ON BOTH SIDES. HEARD NOISE BED RUBBING AGAINST CAB. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT THE TIME OF THE NOISE. FOUND BROKEN FRAME WHEN I GOT HOME.
BODY FRAME HAS ROT HOLES THROUGHOUT UNDERCARRIAGE. NEW FRAME NEEDED. WHILE DRIVING, I WENT OVER A SPEED BUMP AND HEARD A LOUD BOOM FROM UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK. UPON INVESTIGATING, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE DRIVESHAFT BROKE OFF N WAS LYING ON THE AXEL. AAA WAS CALLED AND IMMEDIATELY TOWED THE TRUCH 1 MILE TO OUR MECHANIC. AFTER A THOROUGH INSPECTION, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A NEW DRIVESHAFT WAS NEEDED AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE MECHANIC SPOTTED NUMEROUS PITTING RUSTED HOLES THROUGHOUT THE FRAME. DETERMINED THAT SAID TRUCK WAS A TOTAL LOSS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR NEW TIRES, THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
THE LEFT REAR FRAME RAIL JUST IN FRONT OF THE LEFT REAR FRONT SPRING SHACKLE HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THERE ARE HOLES THROUGH THE LOWER PORTION OF THE FRAME RAIL. THE SIDES OF THE SAME AREA HAVE BECOME VERY THIN COMPARED TO THE ORIGINAL THICKNESS OF THE FRAME RAIL. BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION OF THE RUST THROUGH AT THE SPRING SHACKLE IT WAS RECOMMENDED A FRAME REPAIR SHOULD NOT BE COMPLETED. THE TRUCK WAS DISPOSED OF AND TAKEN OFF ROAD. THE REMAINDER OF THE VEHICLE IS IN GOOD CONDITION. MILEAGE 75,124 MILES. THE FRAME RAIL IS FORMED INTO A BOX FRAME WITH THE SEAM LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RAIL. THE RUST APPEARS TO BE WORST ON THE SEAM. THE SEAM IS A LAP SEAM AND APPEARS TO TRAP WATER IN THE LAP SEAM. THE RIGHT SIDE FRAME RAIL IS THIN HOWEVER IS NOT RUSTED THROUGH AT THIS TIME.
THE BRAKE LINES AND THE ENTIRE FRAME IS RUSTED OUT. THERE ARE BIG WHOLES IN THE FRAME. THE GARAGE WOULDN'T EVEN PUT IT ON THE LIFT, BECAUSE IT WAS SO BAD. HAVE REPLACED BREAKS AND STILL THE TRUCK HAS BREAK ISSUES
MY 2005 GMC CANYON CONTINUES TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE PASSLOCK II SYSTEM. NO MODIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH, KEYS, OR ANY OTHER ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE PASSLOCK PREVENTS ME FROM STARTING MY TRUCK BECAUSE FOR SOME REASON THE COMPUTER THINKS IT IS TRYING TO BE STOLEN. THE LAST TIME THIS ISSUE OCCURED, MY TRUCK WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE. WHEN ATTEMPTED TO START, THE TRUCK CRANKED BUT DID NOT START AND THE PASSLOCK LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO SIT AND WAIT FOR 10 MINUTES UNTIL THE LIGHT WENT OFF. THE PROBLEM WAS I WAS TRYING TO DRIVE MYSELF TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM BECAUSE I HAD JUST BEEN BITTEN BY A DOG.
I TOOK MY TRUCK TO A LOCAL SHOP TO HAVE THE FUEL SYSTEM LOOKED AT AFTER I STARTED SMELLING FUEL. THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLS ME THAT EVENING AND REQUEST I LOOK AT THE TRUCK WHILE IT IS ON THE LIFT SO I CAN SEE THE FRAME FOR MYSELF AS THE FUEL SYSTEM WOULD BE THE LEAST OF MY CONCERNS ONCE I SAW THE FRAME. THE REAR OF THE FRAME FROM THE REAR SPRING HANGER BACK IS ROTTED AWAY ON A 12-YEAR-OLD TRUCK THAT HAS NO BODY RUST AND SOME RUST ON THE OTHER PARTS OF THE FRAME AS TO BE EXPECTED FOR THE AGE. I HAVE ATTACHED PICTURES OF THE SPRING HANGER DETACHED FROM THE FRAME DUE TO THE LACK OF STRUCTURAL SUPPORT AND PICTURES OF THE BAD FRAME SECTION AND THE REST OF THE FRAME ALONG WITH A PICTURE OF THE TRUCK. I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK SINCE IT WAS NEW AND TAKEN CARE OF IT AND AM TROUBLED THAT A STRUCTURAL ITEM SUCH AS A FRAME ONLY IN ONE SECTION, THE SAME SECTION, ON BOTH SIDES IS IN SUCH BAD SHAPE THAT THE MECHANIC RECOMMENDED THAT I REPLACE THE FRAME. I KNOW I LIVE IN AN AREA THAT RECEIVES SNOW AND THE ROADS ARE SALTED BUT CLEANED MY TRUCK FREQUENTLY TO WASH THE SALT OFF OF IT BUT A TRUCK WITH 112,500 MILES THAT IS 12 YEARS OLD SHOULD NOT HAVE A STRUCTURAL FAILURE WHILE ALL OTHER PARTS INCLUDING THIN SHEET METAL ARE STILL IN GREAT SHAPE AND HAVE NOT BEEN PAINTED. THE ONLY REPAINTED ITEMS ON THE TRUCK ARE THE HOOD (AFTERMARKET) AND TAILGATE. SO WHY DOES THIS TRUCK HAVE A ROTTED STRUCTURAL COMPONENT?
2005 CREW CAB GMC CANYON Z85 SLE - LOCALIZED FRAME DETERIORATION DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST COMPLETELY THROUGH THE BOX FRAME. NO OTHER AREAS ON FRAME DISPLAY MORE THAN SURFACE RUST. PRESENT FROM DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR TO ABOVE THE FRAME ELEVATION CHANGE, INCLUDING THE MOUNTING BRACKET FOR THE REAR LEAF SPRING. HOLES AND SEAMS COMPLETELY OPEN IN AFFECTED AREAS. STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY COMPROMISED AT JOINT OF CAB TO THE BED OF TRUCK. VEHICLE IS STILL FUNCTIONAL BUT DAMAGE TO THIS AREA DOES NOT ALLOW FOR TRUCK TO BE USED AS INTENDED. ANY SIGNIFICANT WEIGHT IN BED MAY CAUSE FRAME TO COLLAPSE. NOT RELATED TO ANY SPECIFIC INCIDENT. NO FAILURE TO OPERATE AT THIS TIME.
MY TRUCK IS EXHIBITING AN ISSUE IN WHICH THE GM PASSLOCK SYSTEM DISABLES THE FUEL AND ENGINE BECAUSE OF SOME MALFUNCTION. THIS SYSTEM IS INTENDED TO DISABLE THE FUEL SYSTEM ON A VEHICLE IF IT DETECTS THAT THE IGNITION HAS BEEN TAMPERED WITH OR IN IMPROPER KEY HAS BEEN USED TO TRY AND START THE VEHICLE. MY ISSUE IS THAT INTERMITTENTLY WHEN I TRY TO START MY TRUCK WITH THE FACTORY KEY, THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM ENGAGES AND DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO START MY TRUCK. I HAVE TO WAIT 10 MINUTES IN ORDER FOR THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM LIGHT TO TURN OFF ON THE DASHBOARD. SOMETIMES MY TRUCK WILL START AFTER THIS 10 MINUTE LOCKOUT PERIOD. IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE WHERE MY TRUCK WILL FAIL TO START AFTER THE FIRST LOCKOUT PERIOD AND I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER 10 MINUTES. ONCE THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM ALLOWS ME TO START THE ENGINE, MY TRUCK RUNS FINE WITH NO ISSUES. IN MY OPINION, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. IN ANY EMERGENCY SITUATION, I WOULD HOPE TO DEPEND ON MY TRUCK STARTING. THIS MALFUNCTIONING PASSLOCK SYSTEM PREVENTS ME FROM STARTING MY TRUCK. MY GREATEST ISSUE WITH THIS SITUATION IS THAT MY TRUCK IS NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT IS AFFECTED BY THIS. A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH OF "GMC CANYON PASSLOCK" WILL SHOW PAGES UPON PAGES OF FORUMS OF OTHER TRUCK OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I LIVE IN AN AREA OF THE COUNTRY WITH A HIGH RISK OF FOREST FIRES. I KNOW FRIENDS WHO HAVE BEEN EVACUATED FROM THEIR HOMES IN THE PAST. I HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT THIS MALFUNCTION OF MY TRUCK COULD GREATLY IMPACT MY ABILITY TO EVACUATE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.
AIR BAG COMES ON DISPLAY AND STAYS ON AFTER STARTING VEHICLE
I GOT A SAFETY BULLETIN FROM GMC #14609 STATING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH MY AIR BAG LIGHT,. IT CAN GO ON DUE TO WIRES IN THE REAR DOOR BREAKING, THE AIR BAG CAN GO OFF ALSO. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE AIR BAGS, I HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON. THEY SAID THEY WOULD FIX IT OR REIMBURSE ME IF I PAID IN THE PAST TO HAVE IT FIXED. WELL THEY SAID I WAS OFF OF WARRANTY 1-15 . THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, THE DEALER WILL NOT FIX IT FOR FREE. WHY DID THEY SEND ME THIS BULLETIN WITH MY VIN NUMBER ATTACHED? I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS GMC TRUCK, YOU NAME IT IT HAS HAD A PROBLEM. MOSTLY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE. THE AIR BAG ISSUE SHOULD BE FIXED BY GMC FREE OF CHARGE WHICH THEY STATE IN THE LETTER, THERE TELLING ME I AM A FEW MONTHS PAST THE 10 YEAR DEAD LINE. THAT IS A DISGRACE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY GMC IF IT IS A DESIGN PROBLEM LIKE ALL THE OTHER PROBLEMS I AM HAVING. THEY ARE GETTING AWAY WITH THIS AND THE AIR BAG CAN GO OFF WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I AM HOLDING THEM LIABLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS THEY ARE NOT HELPING ME WITH THIS SAFETY ISSUE. THANKS, TOM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THERE WAS A FUEL ODOR COMING FROM THE VEHICLES BLOWER VENTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE 30 TO 35 MINUTES, THE ODOR WOULD DISSIPATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
WHEN BAKING UP THE ABS FAULT CODE CAME ON WAS GOING 5 MPH OR LESS. TURNED THE TRUCK OFF AND THE CODE WENT AWAY. IT HAS DONE THIS A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES ALL WHILE BACKING THE TRUCK UP AT A VERY LOW SPEED, OTHER ISSUES I AM HAVING THE AIR CONDITIONING WILL ONLY WORK ON HIGH AND SOMETIMES THE OTHER SPEEDS WILL WORK. THE REAR PASSENGER WINDOW WILL NOT ROLL DOWN. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS TRUCK AND HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALLS ON ANY OF THESE ITEMS AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS A SAFETY CONCERN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 205,000.
AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING ON FAN POSITIONS 1,2, AND 3 AND WORKS ONLY ON 4. EIGHT PAGES OF COMPLAINTS INDICATED THAT FAULTY COMPONENTS WERE PUT INTO TRUCK AT FACTORY AND SHOULD BE RECALLED: BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR, WIRING HARNESS AND POOR GROUND WIRE. AC DELCO PART 15-80521 ONE PART REQUIRING REPLACEMENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE SLID ON BLACK ICE AND CRASHED INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BACK AND ABDOMEN INJURIES, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE PASSENGER ALSO SUSTAINED BRUISES TO THE FACE, EYE SOCKET, AND BROKEN RIB INJURIES, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT AND THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED CONCUSSIONS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
THIS TRUCK WAS LISTED IN A RECALL UNDER A TSB #07123A. THIS NO CHARGE RECALL WAS TO REPLACE CYLINDER HEADS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED WITH DEFECTIVE INTAKE VALVE SEATS. THE "SPECIAL COVERAGE" EXTENDED THE REPAIR FOR 7 YEARS/100,0000. I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK FOR 5 YEARS AND DID NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTIFICATION OF THIS PROBLEM. MY FATHER BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW AND I INHERITED IT ON HIS PASSING IN 2009. I HAVE 52,000 MILES ON THE OTHERWISE PRISTINE TRUCK. I AM TOLD IT DOESN'T MATTER THAT IT WAS A CLEAR MANUFACTURERS DEFECT OR THAT I WAS NOT NOTIFIED AS THE EXTENSION EXPIRED IN 2013. THE REPAIR IS $3500. I THINK THAT A RECALL TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE ENGINE PART AS SUBSTANTIAL AS THE CYLINDER HEAD SHOULD BE CONSIDERED NON EXPIRABLE PARTICULARLY WITH SUCH A LOW MILEAGE ENGINE. I BOUGHT A 2004 NEW AND PUT 167,000 MILES ON IT BEFORE SELLING IT AND I DID NOT RECEIVE A LETTER ON THIS RECALL. MY SON ALSO BOUGHT A NEW 2004 AND CURRENTLY HAS 190,000 MILES ON IT AND HE DID NOT RECEIVE A LETTER ON THE ENGINE. MY DAD BOUGHT THIS 2005 NEW BEFORE PASSING IN 2009 AND AS FAR AS I KNOW HE DID NOT RECEIVE A LETTER. I DID NOT GET ANY LETTER ABOUT THE ENGINE DURING MY OWNERSHIP. I BELIEVE A GREAT MANY ENGINES WERE AFFECTED AS THE INDICATED BY THE EXTENDED COVERAGE. HOWEVER, NOT TELLING ALL OF THE OWNERS OF VEHICLES INVOLVED SHOULD NOT BECOME MY EXTREME FINANCIAL BURDEN. I DON'T THINK GMC SHOULD BE ABLE TO THUMB THEIR NOSE AT ME FOR MISSING AN ARBITRARY CUT OFF DATE, FOR A WARRANTY RECALL I HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF AND BE FORCED TO BEAR THE ENTIRE BURDEN OR REPAIR COSTS. THEY KNEW THEN AND KNOW NOW THAT THESE HEADS WERE DEFECTIVE. *TR
I REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER ON MY 2005 GMC CANYON AS PART OF REGULAR MAINTENANCE. IN ORDER TO PERFORM THE FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT I DISCONNECTED THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF THE BATTERY. AFTER MAINTENANCE, THE BATTERY WAS HOOKED UP. VEHICLE NOW EXHIBITS THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS. 1) DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW INOPERABLE. 2) POWER DOOR LOCKS INOPERABLE FROM DIVERS SIDE MASTER SWITCH. 3) VEHICLE DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY LOCK DOORS WHEN SHIFTED FROM P TO R OR D. 4) KEYLESS ENTRY INOPERABLE. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS CONDITION HAS PRESENTED ITSELF AFTER UNHOOKING THE BATTERY. POSSIBLE SAFETY CONCERN OVER INOPERABLE WINDOW AND DOOR LOCKS. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED ON INTERNET FORUMS WITH NO CLEAR SOLUTION. I RECENTLY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR A 2006 GMC CONVOY THAT I OWNED FOR A POSSIBLE DEFECTIVE DOOR MODULE THAT MAY CAUSE A SHORT THAT WOULD CAUSE SMOKE OR A FIRE. I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2005 GMC CANYON PICK UP. THIS SUMMER (2014) MY DRIVER POWER WINDOW AND POWER LOCKS STOPPED WORKING. AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS BEFORE I COULD GET AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THEM FIXED, THEY STARTED WORKING PROPERLY. ON 21 NOV 14, THE ISSUE RECURRED, MY DRIVER POWER WINDOW, AND POWER LOCKS STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM STATING THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM FOR A 2006 GMC ENVOY THAT I USED TO OWN. IS THIS A COINCIDENCE OR THE SAME PROBLEM? *TR
BRAKE LIGHT WENT OUT. BRAKE SWITCH WAS SERVICED 2 YEARS AGO UNDER A RECALL FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. GM WILL NOT REPLACE THE PART UNLESS I PAY FOR A NEW ONE. HOW CAN A NEW PART HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AS IN THE RECALL. THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT WORK. *TR
CAN NO LONGER ROLL DOWN THE DRIVERS OR PASSANGERS WINDOWS. NO LONGER HAVE ANY CONTROL OF THE POWER LOCKS FROM EITHER DOOR CONTROL OR REMOTE. BLOWER FOR AIR ONLY WORKS ON HIGH SETTING 1 2 AND 3 WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THE BRAKES WILL START TO SOUND LIKE THEY ARE PULSATING AND THEN THE ABS FAULT COMES ON THE DASH AND THE BRAKE LIGHT LIGHTS UP.
ALL THE POWER IN THE DRIVER'S DOOR STOPPED WORKING - THE WINDOW WON'T ROLL DOWN, DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON DOESN'T WORK, ETC. IT ALSO PREVENTS THE DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK REMOTE CONTROL FROM WORKING. I'VE SEARCHED ONLINE FOR POSSIBLE CAUSES/SOLUTIONS, AND FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE CANYON HAS A WELL-DOCUMENTED HISTORY OF ELECTRICAL ISSUES. IT'S A SHAME MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DIDN'T KNOW THAT BEFORE SHE SPENT ALL THE MONEY SHE SAVED UP TO BUY ONE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO OPERATE UPON ACTIVATION. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE LIGHT LAMP WAS INOPERABLE. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V139000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING) HOWEVER, THE CONTAC'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS THE AC/HEAT BLOWER MOTOR WOULD ONLY WORK ON HIGH, HAD THE SAME SWITCH REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES. DEALER SHIP AFTER 4 TRIES WAS ABLE TO GET IT WORKING. THEN WITH ABS/TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD STARTED DISPLAYING, TOOK TO HAVE REPAIRED THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE ISSUE. ABOUT A WEEK LATER MY CAR RADIO WOULD RANDOMLY COME ON AFTER KEYS WERE REMOVE FROM IGNITION, THEN ALSO WOULD COME ON WHEN I WOULD OPEN TRUCK DOORS. THE SEATBELT WARNING BELLS CHIME WHEN KEYS ARE NOT IN THE IGNITION WILL STOP WHEN THE KEYS ARE PUT INTO THE IGNITION. ALSO OCCASIONAL OTHER RANDOM WARNING LIGHTS AND CHIMES WILL RING. *TR

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY INDICATING MISFIRE WHEN IDLING; CAR IS SHAKING AND RATTLING THERE'S A SPECIAL COVERAGE LETTER #07123A BUT GMC DOES NOT COVER INTAKE LEAKAGE ISSUE ONCE VEHICLE IS PASSED 7 YRS OR 100K MILES, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM SINCE 2007. IF YOU ARE NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER, THERE IS NO WAY TO BE NOTIFIED OR CONTACTED. MY DEALER NEVER MADE ME AWARE OF THE ISSUE AFTER PURCHASING THE TRUCK. NOW I'M PASSED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND AM SUPPOSED TO COVER THE FULL COSTS. THIS IS CUSTOMER FRAUD SINCE ITS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM RELATED TO THE ENGINE - ALL 2004-06 GMC CANYONS ARE AFFECTED BY THIS. THIS NEEDS A RECALL - NOT EXTENDED WARRANTY! *TR
THE ABS FAULT LIGHT COMES ON AND THE ABS SYSTEM STARTS TRYING TO OVER WORK. THIS IN MY OPINION IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE HAD THIS LOOKED AT AND HAVE BEEN TOLD IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE, HOWEVER NO RECALL. SECOND ISSUE:HVAC SYSTEM HAS A KNOWN ISSUE WHERE IT KEEPS OVER HEATING AND THE HVAC HARNESS HAS TO BE REPLACED, AFTER BEING BURNED. THIS IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE. MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY NOW. HIT 3 DEER IN HIGH SPEED COLLISION. MY AIR BAGS DIDN'T FUNCTION. THEN RESEARCH ONLINE SHOWED I HAVE TIKATA AIRBAGS. THEN I NOTICED MY BRAKES IF WET OR HAVE ICE ON ROTORS, WHEN BRAKING, I GET TERRIBLE SQUEAKING NOISE AND FRONT END WILL SHIMMY OR VIBRATE. REAR BRAKES TOO. AND MY POWER STEERING STARTED MAKING NOISE, LIKE A RUBBING SOUND A FEW MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT TRUCK, THOUGH NO FLUID LOSS OR STIFFNESS IN STEERING. I KNOW THESE AIR BAGS ARE DANGEROUS, METAL PARTS HAVE KILLED A FEW PEOPLE. WHY WASN'T I NOTIFIED BY AUTOMAKER ABOUT WHAT AIRBAGS WERE INSTALLED IN MY TRUCK!? I NEED FIXED. I DO A LOT OF MOUNTAIN DRIVING. I WOULD LIKE THEM TO WORK PROPERLY. AND THESE STRANGE NOISES REALLY BUG ME. I CAN'T BE BREAKING DOWN DEEP INTO MOUNTAIN ROADS WHEN I WORK OR TRAVEL. SHOULD I GO BACK TO DEALER TO GET FIXED?
THIS VEHICLE USES A RESISTOR FOR VARIABLE SPEEDS (X4) ON THE VENTILATION BLOWER. DURING CONTINUOUS OR FREQUENT USE (I.E. DEFROST, AIR CONDITIONING) A BURNING SMELL DEVELOPS. THE BURNING SMELL INCREASES OVER TIME AFTER REPEATED USAGE AND THE INCREMENTAL BLOWER SPEED CIRCUITS ARE BURNED OUT AND DISABLED. THE WIRES ARE BLACKENED AND CONNECTORS MELTED AND THE PLASTIC CONNECTING BASE OF THE RESISTOR IS MELTED AND BLACKENED. AT TIMES THE VEHICLE WIRE HARNESS IS AFFECTED. GM HAS A "SERVICE BULLETIN" WHICH PRESCRIBES A "REPAIR" FOR THIS MALFUNCTION (I.E. NEW RESISTOR, PIGTAIL WIRES AND CONNECTORS, AND A BLOWER REPLACEMENT IF REQUIRED) ---- BUT IT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND IT OCCURS REPEATEDLY THROUGHOUT OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE RESISTOR AND WIRES IN THIS CIRCUIT AT LEAST 6 TIMES IN THE LAST THREE YEARS. OUR CANYON BEGAN EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM AT ABOUT 85,000 MILES. EACH REPLACEMENT (INCLUDING LABOR AND PARTS) COSTS ABOUT $150. I CONTACTED GM LAST YEAR -- THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER BUT WANTED ME TO PAY OUT OF POCKET BY THE HOUR FOR ELECTRICAL TROUBLESHOOTING. I ALSO CONTACTED CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE LAST MONTH WHEN THEY WERE ADVERTISING NEW RECALLS BASED ON SERVICE BULLETINS --- BUT THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED UNLESS AN OPEN FLAME WAS PRESENT IN THE SITUATION. WE EVENTUALLY BYPASSED THIS CIRCUIT BY INSTALLING CORE WIRE, A ONE-WAY SWITCH, AND A FUSE. AT THE VERY LEAST, THIS IS A DISTRACTION. AT THE WORST -- DEFROST, HEAT, A/C, ALL FUNCTIONS INVOLVING THE BLOWER BECOME DISABLED AND THE VEHICLE HARNESS CORE WIRE CAN BECOME DAMAGED. *TR
AFTER GETTING MY TRUCK WASHED THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO OUT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GMC TODAY, MAY 8, 2012, AND THEY FOUND A WIRE UNDER THE CARPET IN THE REAR PASSENGER AREA BROKEN. THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND VERY SELDOM HAS PASSENGERS IN THE REAR SEAT AREA. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 124,000.
I PURCHASED 4 COOPER TIRES 8/18/10. I STARTED NOTICING A PROBLEM IN 1/11. THE SIDE WALLS WOULD BECOME VERY DARK BLACK ABOUT 2" DOWN FROM TREAD .THEN I NOTICED THE TRUCK NOT DRIVING RIGHT. SENSATION OF BEING STUCK IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. ALTOUGH IT WAS NOT STUCK IN 4 WHEEL. I ASKED MANY PEOPLE TODAY I HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT THEM. HIS RESPONSE WAS FEEL THESE LUMPS ON THE TREAD. THIS IS WHERE BELTS HAVE SNAPPED INSIDE THE TIRES ALL 4 OF THEM!!THE SIDE WALLS ARE SLIGHTLY BULGED AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD ONLY BE A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE I WILL HAVE A BLOW OUT. I SAVED FOR THESE TIRES FOR 1 YR. COOPER ATR OWL 31X10.50 R15 LT. PLEASE HELP BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD NEW TIRES & I'D NOT WANT TO KILL SOME ONE ON THE ROAD.. *TR
