DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE LIGHT CONTINUES TO LOOSEN OR BURN OUT. WE HAVE REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES WITHIN THE LAST YEAR AND WITHIN A MONTH THE LIGHT DOES NOT WORK AGAIN. THERE WAS A SIMILAR RECALL, 04V527000, ON XL MODELS, BUT GMC STATES THIS DID NOT AFFECT MY MODEL. THE RECALL SHOULD BE OPENED AGAIN AND BE EXTENDED TO ALL ENVOY, AS I SEE MANY ON THE ROAD WITH THE LEFT BRAKE/TAIL LIGHT OUT.
2002 GMC ENVOY HAS A LOWER ENGINE NOISE. UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, ADJUSTER IS HOLDING UP REPAIR FOR OVER TWO WEEKS. VEHICLE HAS HAD REGULAR OIL CHANGES. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 57,800 MILES. WAS RECALLED FOR PMC VALVE AND HAD TRANS PROBLEM BRAND NEW. TOTALLY DISGUSTED WITH THIS TRUCK.
56,779 MILE AND TRANSMISSION FAILED ON MY 2002 ENVOY. DEALER TOLD ME THEY HAD NEVER SAW THIS HAPPEN. WE HAD JUST MADE A 2300 MILE TRIP TO THE 'NO MAN LAND' OF COLORADO. THE NEXT DAY MY WIFE CAME TO A STOP SIGN, SAID THE CAR MADE A WEIRD NOISE AND WOULD NOT GO. NO REVERSE OR DRIVE BUT CRIPPLED IT HOME IN LOW. WAS VERY SURPRISED THAT THE GM DEALER WOULD NOT BACK THE TRANSMISSION. $2,903.94 TO REPLACE WITH A 1 YEAR GUARANTEE WHICH IS ABOUT UP AND I REFUSE TO DRIVE ON A LONG TRIP AGAIN IN THIS AUTO. *TR
ALREADY REPLACED THE FAN CLUTCH AT 39000 MILES. IT COST ME CLOSE TO $800, $300+ FOR THE NEW FAN , AND $400+ FOR LABOR. THE DEALER INSTALLED THE NEW COMPUTER SOFTWARE. NOW AT 42700 MILES THE FAN CLUTCH, THE THERMOSTAT BROKEN. THE BAD NEWS, I SHIPPED THIS ENVOY TO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC , ALREADY TALKING TO THE LOCAL DEALER. MY QUESTION TO ALL WAS, IN OBSERVATION OF ALL THE FAN CLUTCH PROBLEMS, DID THIS REQUIRE A RECALL. NOW , THAT I KNEW ABOUT SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM, EITHER THE DEALER AND GMC REFUND ME FOR THE FIRST FAN CLUTCH AND REPAIR OR REPLACE WITH CURRENT ONE, OR I WILL DEFINITELY SUE THEM. I OWN A 2002 GMC ENVOY AND BRAKE LIGHTS JUST QUIT I CHECKED BULBS,FUSES AND CHANGED BRAKE SWITCH THEY STILL DO NOT WORK. *JB
THE VEHICLE HAD A FLAT TIRE. WHEN TRYING TO LOWER THE SPARE ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS THE SPARE WOULD NOT DROP DOWN. THE CAR NEEDED TO BE BROUGHT TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, WHO CHARGED $350 TO REPLACE THE SPARE TIRE MECHANISM BECAUSE IT WAS BROKE DUE TO ROAD WATER, DIRT, SALT DETERIORATING IT OVER TIME.*AK
2002 GMC ENVOY FUEL SMELL. TOOK TO 2 DIFFERENT GM DEALERS BEFORE PROBLEM WAS FOUND. THE 2ND GM DEALER FOUND IT TO BE THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WHICH WAS RUSTED AND LEAKING GAS. GM WOULD NOT STAND BEHIND THIS PROBLEM AS SHE WAS THE SECOND OWNER. THE PROBLEM IS THE WAY METAL FUEL PUMP MODULE SITS IN THE RECESSED PORTION MIDDLE OF THE PLASTIC FUEL TANK INVITES MOISTURE, RUST , SALT, CORROSION ETC. REPLACED AT OUR EXPENSE OF $520.00 THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM. *JB
2002 GMC ENVOY HAS AN SES ILLUMINATION ACCOMPANIED BY A FUEL ODOR, AND/OR A FEW DROPS OF FUEL ON THE GROUND WHEN REFUELING THE VEHICLE. THIS IS CAUSED BY A FRACTURE OF A WELD ON THE FUEL TANK INLET CHECK VALVE (ICV). THE ICV IS LOCATED ABOVE THE FULL FUEL LEVEL. A FRACTURE IN THIS AREA MAY ALLOW FUEL VAPORS TO PASS THROUGH AND ALLOW DROPLETS OF FUEL TO ACCUMULATE ON THE SIDE OF THE FUEL TANK AS IT PASSES OVER THE FRACTURE DURING REFUELING. *JB
THE OUTSIDE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTING MIRROR HAVE A MIND OF THEIR OWN AND HAVE TO BE RESET EACH TIME FOR EACH DRIVER THEY ARE PROGRAMMED TO. ONCE ADJUSTED, YOU MAY LOOK TO CHANGE LANES AND FIND THEY ARE NOT ANYWHERE NEAR WHERE THEY WERE ADJUSTED. I HAVE COME CLOSE TO HAVING A NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE MIRRORS AND THEY CONTINUE TO DO THE SAME THING.*JB
GAS SMELL BOTH IN AND OUT OF VEHICLE. WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS GAS WOULD LEAK AFTER CAR WAS DRIVEN. FUEL PUMP LEAKED DUE TO RUSTED PIPE ON FUEL PUMP TO FUEL LINE. IT IS THE ONLY EXPOSED STEEL FITTING AND SITS ON TOP OF THE GAS TANK WHERE WATER AND MOISTURE CAN COLLECT, WHICH IS THEN CONDUCIVE TO RUSTING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IT WILL RANDOMLY JUMP FROM 2 WHEEL DRIVE TO 4 WHEEL DRIVE WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING THE CAR TO BECOME IDLE AND YOU MUST TURN THE CAR OFF COMPLETELY. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE HE REPLACED THE BRAKES AND CHECKED THE WHEELS AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. SHE IS ALSO EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT IT LOCKS WHEN FASTENED. SHE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED HER THAT IT WAS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND ANY REPAIRS MADE WOULD BE AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE IS ALSO EXPERIENCING EXTERIOR LIGHT FAILURE, BOTH HEADLIGHTS BURNED OUT WITHIN WEEKS APART AND THEY WERE REPLACED AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000 (SC) UPDATED 06/25/08. *CN THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED WHEN DRIVING PAST 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE MOTOR FAILED. UPDATED 06/25/08
MY REAR HIGH MOUNT STOP LAMP ATTACHED TO THE LIFT GATE WINDOW HAS BECAME DETACHED YESTERDAY ON IT'S OWN. IT SEEMS THAT IT'S FASTENING HOLDING IT DOWN HAD LOOSENED AND BROKE. IT IS NOW HANGING FROM IT'S WIRING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, REWIRED, AND MOUNTED. I BELIEVE THIS IS SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V527000, WHERE VIBRATION AND HEAT FROM NORMAL DRIVING USE PLAYED A FACTOR IN UNCOVERING ANOTHER DEFECT IN THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS. *JB
LEAKY GAS TANK ON 2002 GMC ENVOY XL. 48,000 MILES. FOUND BY DEALERSHIP, RECOMMENDED NEW GAS TANK FOR APPROX $500 PLUS LABOR. SERVICE BULLETIN EXISTS TO LOOK FOR CRACK IN TANK PER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. *NM
TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *JB
SUN SHELL REPLACEMENT ON 2002 ENVOY XL. WE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS DEFECTIVE COMPONENT. I WORKED FOR GM AND HAD NO PROBLEMS HAVING THIS DEFECTIVE COMPONENT REPLACED AT 100% DEALER CHARGE. WE PAID $0.000 (NOTHING) GM KNEW THEY HAD PROBLEMS AND DIDN'T' CORRECT THE PROBLEM. OURS FAILED 20 MINUTES AFTER HAVING A TRANSMISSION FLUSH/SERVICE WITH ONLY 35K MILES ON OUR 2002 VEHICLE. I WOULD FIGHT WITH THE DEALER. THERE ARE SERVICE BULLETINS OUT THERE REGARDING THE FAILURE AND REPLACEMENT OF THIS COMPONENT. OURS FAILED WHEN MY SPOUSE TRIED TO ENGAGE THE GEAR INTO REVERSE. GOOD THING THIS DIDN'T' HAPPEN IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION WHERE SHE NEEDED TO GET OUT OF A BAD SITUATION QUICKLY. THE LOCAL DEALER PAID FOR OUR THIS SHOULD BE THE SAME FOR ALL DEALERS ACROSS THE NATION AS LONG AS IT'S AN APPLE TO APPLE COMPARISON. OWNERS IN ONE STATE SHOULD BE AFFORDED THE SAME REPLACEMENT POLICY AND PRICING AS OWNERS IN OTHER STATES. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALERS SHOULD TREAT EVERYONE FAIRLY. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE LUNGED, A WHIRRING NOISE OCCURRED, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT WAS DRIVEN HOME WITH HIGH RPM'S AND LOW ACCELERATION. AT THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE, IT WAS NOTICED THAT REVERSE DID NOT OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT WOULD NOT OPERATE ABOVE FIRST OR SECOND GEAR. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE SUN SHELL INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REBUILT.
I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT ON A RECALL THAT ALREADY EXIST AND HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED PROPERLY. I AM THE OWNER OF A GMC ENVOY 2002. IN 2004 THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL THAT BECAUSE OF WATER GETTING INTO THE WIPER MOTOR THAT THE MOTOR WOULD FAIL AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WELL THE FIX FOR THIS WAS TO PUT A COVER OVER THE WIPER MOTOR IN MOST CASES. WELL MY SELF AND OTHER TRAILBLAZER AND ENVOY OWNERS NOW ARE SEEING THE EFFECTS OF THE DAMAGE THAT WAS DONE TO OUR WIPER MOTORS SINCE 2002. THE MOTOR IS BEGINNING TO SKIP OR SOMETIMES FAIL BECAUSE IT IS SLOWLY RUSTING FROM BEFORE. GM NEED TO COME UP WITH A REAL SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM AND ACTUALLY MAKE THESE VEHICLES SAFE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED, AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED AS IF THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS RELEASED. ALSO, A SMELL WAS COMING FROM THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE TRANSFER CASE CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE FRONT BUMPER BOUNCED UP AND DOWN, AND FRACTURED THE PLASTIC MOLDING. AFTERWARDS, A RATTLING NOISE CAME FROM THE BUMPER. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT WAS THE WAY THE BUMPER WAS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. UPDATED 10/25/2006 - *NM
I DRIVE A 2002 GMC ENVOY AND FOR THE LAST 2&1/2 YEARS DURING THE SUMMER, I USUALLY NOTICE THAT THE FAN SEEMS TO RUN VERY FREQUENTLY. AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT USUALLY STOPS AND I DON'T THINK ABOUT IT AGAIN UNTIL WE RESTART IT. WE'VE TAKEN IT TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS INCLUDING THE ONE WE PURCHASED IT FROM AND THEY TELL US THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR-IT'S JUST HOT OUTSIDE AND THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE COOLED BY THE FAN SO IT RUNS LONGER AND LOUDER. TODAY, I TOOK IT IN BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT QUIT RUNNING AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THEY WANT $700 TO FIX THE FAN CLUTCH WHICH WE'VE BEEN TRYING TO TELL THEM WASN'T OPERATING CORRECTLY THIS WHOLE TIME. *NM

THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE FILLER PIPE NECK, ATTACHED TO THE STORAGE TANK, LEAKED WHEN THE TANK WAS FILLED WITH GASOLINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR HATCH WINDOW OPENED ON ITS OWN INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. ALSO, THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT OPERATE INTERMITTENTLY FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE DEALERSHIP ADJUSTED THE STRIKER AND CLEANED THE DOOR JAM, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED.
THE GMC ENVOY XLT EXPERIENCES A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER UNDER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS. WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS AT OR BELOW A QUARTER TANK OF GAS THE VEHICLE'S GAS PEDAL BECOMES INOPERABLE AND THE FORWARD VELOCITY IS LOST TO THE POINT THAT IF YOU ARE IN TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE WILL IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN RESULTING IN A COMPLETELY HAZARDOUS AND UNSAFE SITUATION WHERE THE DRIVER HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO PULL OFF THE ROAD OR BE REAR ENDED. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS ONLY UNDER THE CONDITIONS DESCRIBED ABOVE. SEVERAL GMC ENVOY XLT OWNERS HAVE EXPRESSED THE SAME SITUATION. THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED TO GMC IN 2005 BUT IT APPEARS THAT THE PROBLEM IS KNOWN BUT THEY AREN'T ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY AS A MANUFACTURER. POSSIBLE INDICATORS MAY BE THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY, FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, OR SOME OTHER VITAL COMPONET IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. I AM SURE GM KNOWS. *JB
WHILE FILLING MY 2002 GMC ENVOY, I OBSERVED GAS POURING OUT OF THE TOP OF THE TANK DOWN OVER THE REAR AXLE AND NEAR THE TAILPIPE. I NOTICED THIS BECAUSE THE GAS PUMP DID NOT SHUT OFF AT THE APPROPRIATE LEVEL. I CALLED GMC AND REPORTED IT. THEY WERE AT FIRST RELUCTANT TO GIVE ME THE AGENCY I COULD REPORT THIS TOO BUT AFTER SPEAKING TO A SUPERVISOR THEY FINALLY TOLD ME I COULD REPORT THE POSSIBLE DEFECT TO THE NHTSA. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE LIGHT AND THE DRIVERS SIDE DAY HEADLIGHT FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07E014000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
I OWN A 2002 GMC ENVOY WITH 49,000 MILES. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, DID NOT WANT TO SHIFT FROM FIRST, THEN NO REVERSE WHEN I LEFT THE DESTINATION. HAD TOWED TO DEALER. SERVICE MANAGER STATED SHE HAD A HUNCH WHAT IT WAS BUT HAD TO GET IT IN THE SHOP FIRST. SURE ENOUGH, THE SUN SHELL FAILED AND THE TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REPLACED. CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET THEM TO FIX IT AT THERE EXPENSE SINCE THIS IS AN REGULAR OCCURRENCE WITH THERE TRUCKS. HAVE NOT HEARD BACK AS OF YET. SEEN MANY MANY MANY POSTS AROUND THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS VERY PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. *NM
LAST YEAR (2005) THE CLUTCH FAN LOCKED UP AND STAYED LOCKED UP UNTIL WE TOOK IT TO A GM DEALER. THEY SAID THERE WAS A BULLETIN ON THIS AND THE PCM NEEDED TO BE RE-PROGRAMMED. THAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER, WON,T SHIFT PROPERLY AND THIS HAPPENS WITHOUT NOTICE. ONE MINUTE IT'S FINE AND THEN IT'S NOT. NOW ONE YEAR LATER THE SAME PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!! I NOW HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER AND PAY TO HAVE IT RE-PROGRAMMED. IF THIS IS A CONTINUING PROBLEM, I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY GM CAN'T JUST REPLACE THE CHIP THAT HOLDS THE CODE, AND BE DONE WITH IT. *NM
RECALLS THAT ARE SERIOUSLY AFFECTING THE CAR'S SAFETY THAT CANNOT BE REPAIRED BECAUSE THE SERVICE CALL HAS CLOSED, BUT WAS BOUGHT THAT WAY WITHOUT KNOWING. THE WIPER MOTOR WORKS WHEN IT WANTS ON THE DRIVER SIDE, PREVENTING CLEAR SAFE VISION DURING RAIN, THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE IS STUCK IN 4 WD, THE FRONT SUSPENSION POSSIBLY CRACKED, THE HEADLIGHT DOESN'T FACE STRAIGHT ON THE ROAD, THE AIR BAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAS DEFECT THAT IF DEPLOYED CAN CAUSE BODILY INJURY TO THE PASSENGER, LICENSE PLATE ONLY WORKS WHEN ITS SLAMMED SHUT, AND HAVE ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRICAL UNDER THE DASH THAT APPARENTLY FAILS TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS NO. 101, "CONTROL LOCATION, IDENTIFICATION, AND ILLUMINATION" AND NO. 208, "OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION..BUT YET GM WONT REPAIR IT !!! ALL OF THESE ARE PRIOR RECALLS, BUT BECAUSE I WASN'T THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND DIDN'T TAKE THE CAR IN WHEN THEY WERE FIRST ANNOUNCED, GM REFUSES TO MAKE MY ENVOY SAFE FROM CAUSING ME OR MY KIDS HARM. BECAUSE THE FIRST OWNER DIDN'T DO IT, OR BECAUSE ITS TOO LATE. IF A YEAR MAKE AND MODEL OF A CAR HAS A RECALL, WHY DOES IT MATTER WHEN THE ISSUE SURFACES, ITS OBVIOUSLY A CAUSE FOR CONCERN, WHY NOT REPAIR IT? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, A TIRE WAS ON THE ROAD AND THE CONTACT SWERVED TO THE LEFT TO AVOID THE OBJECT HOWEVER, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND FLIPPED APPROXIMATELY TEN TIMES AND CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL WHERE THERE WERE INJURIES REPORTED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000. UPDATED 09/05/14*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE IGNITION SWITCH MAY BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. UPDATED 12/16/2014 *JS
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HAD A PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY. THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK ASSEMBLY RUSTED OUT CAUSING A FUEL LEAK WHICH INCREASED THE PROBABILITY OF A FIRE. UPDATED 9/15/2006 - THE CONSUMER SAW THE FUEL LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE AT A RATE OF 1-3 DROPS PER SECOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT HARDWARE WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED. *NM
MY 2002 ENVOY HAS STALLED 3 TIMES NOW WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY. EACH TIME THE ENGINE QUITS AND WILL NOT RESTART UNTIL DISCONNECTING AND RE-CONNECTING THE BATTERY. SINCE THIS LAST TIME THE CAR DISPLAYS ABS LIGHT AND SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK EVEN AFTER DISCONNECTING BATTERY. DEALER SAYS I HAVE TO REPLACE A COMPUTER NOW. ENGINE TENDED TO REV AT A HIGH LEVEL UNTIL WARMED UP. FINALLY WOULD NOT COME DOWN TO A NORMAL LEVEL DUE TO A FAILED FAN CLUTCH. VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND DEALER QUOTED $800 FOR REPAIRS. HAD THE FAN CLUTCH REPLACED INDEPENDENTLY, WHICH NOW HAS US BACK TO THE ORIGINAL HIGH LEVEL OF REVVING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE RUNNING NORMAL. DISAPPOINTED TO SEE THE NUMBER OF SIMILAR FAILURES, AND YET THE DEALER ACTS LIKE THIS IS AN UNHEARD OF EVENT. *JB

MID JUNE 2006, WIFE DROVE TO WORK AND STOPPED AT A GAS STATION TO GET GAS. WHEN SHE RESTARTED THE CAR, THE INSTRUMENT POWER PANEL DID NOT WORK NOR ANY OF THE INSTRUMENTS SUCH AS SPEEDOMETER. DEALER ADVISED THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACEMENT, BUT IT WAS NOT RELATED TO HIS OCT. 05 REPAIR. CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE, HAVE A FILE NUMBER, BUT HAVE NOT HEARD FROM ANYONE IN 2 WEEKS. WENT TO BACK OUT OF NEIGHBOR'S DRIVEWAY & THERE WAS NO REVERSE GEAR; JUST LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. AFTER PUSHING THE GMC ENVOY OUT OF DRIVEWAY, IT WOULD GO FORWARD, BUT WAS VERY "STRAINED" TO GET INTO GEAR. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE.

WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO USE THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE, BUT IT WOULD NOT WORK. THE INDICATOR LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED; HOWEVER, NONE OF THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE LEVELS WORK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS 01V283000 (POWER TRAIN:TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE)) AND 02V222000 (AIR BAGS). THE CABLE CONNECTING THE SHIFT LEVER TO THE TRANSMISSION PULLED LOSE AND LOCKED THE TRANSMISSION IN THE PRE-FAILURE STATE. IF THIS HAPPENS WHEN SOMEONE IS SHIFTING INTO PARK, THEY MAY NOT REALIZE THAT THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT GO INTO PARK AND THE VEHICLE COULD ROLL CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.
