2006 GMC ENVOY XL - FUEL GAGE NOT FUNCTIONING OCCASIONALLY READS EMPTY WITH SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON EVEN AFTER FILLING UP. APPEARS COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. VEHICLE RUNNING OUT OF FUEL WITHOUT WARNING CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES ESPECIALLY ON HIGHWAY. WITH NUMEROUS FILED COMPLAINTS, UNFAVORABLE BLOGS DOCUMENTING THE ISSUE AND GM DEALERS / SERVICE WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM IT IS TIME FOR A REPAIR OF THIS MANUFACTURER'S PROBLEM. *TR
FUEL GAUGE ON 2006 ENVOY READS EMPTY ALL THE TIME AFTER FUNCTIONALLY FLUCTUATING FOR SOME TIME. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION DRIVING LONG DISTANCES AS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GUESS ACCURATELY THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE CAR. REPAIR IS EXPENSIVE AND THIS IS APPARENTLY A COMMON DEFECT IN THESE VEHICLES. *TR
GAS GAUGE BOUNCED AROUND INTERMITTENTLY FOR WEEKS REGARDLESS OF FUEL LEVEL. NOW IT JUST READS EMPTY. AIR COMPRESSOR HASN'T WORKED SINCE LAST NOVEMBER. FUEL PUMP WENT OUT LAST NIGHT. REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY HAS NEVER WORKED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON. WHAT A LEMON. WILL NEVER BUY GMC EVER AGAIN. *TR
WHEN WEATHER TURNED COLD THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AND SHUT OFF FOR NO REASON. IN ADDITION TO GAS GAUGE STOPPED WORKING. *TR
THE HORN FAILED TO WORK TWICE DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER BOTH TIMES. THE HORN FAILED TO WORK AGAIN SHORTLY AFTER IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. LOCAL DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO SERVICE BULLETIN ON IT BEING A KNOWN DEFECT. THE HORN DOES WORK WITH THE KEY FOB. PROBLEM IS IN THE HORN BUTTON IN CENTER OF STEERING WHEEL. SOUNDS LIKE A SAFETY DEFECT TO ME. I RARELY USE, MAYBE THAT'S THE PROBLEM.
GAS GAUGE FAILED TO READ THE CORRECT FUEL LEVEL IN THE TANK. THANKFULLY, WE NOTICED BEFORE RUNNING OUT OF GAS ON THE HIGHWAY. FUEL GAUGE WOULD FLOAT BETWEEN 1/4 AND 3/4 TANK SO YOU COULDN'T TELL HOW MUCH GAS YOU HAD. *TR

I OWN A 2006 GMC ENVOY XL. APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH AGO, THE FUEL GAUGE STARTED SHOWING EMPTY WHEN THERE WAS A FULL TANK OF GAS. IT WOULD RESET TO THE ACTUAL READING WHEN I WOULD TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON. IT WOULD STAY ON THE ACTUAL READING AND THEN A MINUTE LATER THE DIAL WOULD GO DOWN TO EMPTY. I'VE BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE LIKE THIS FOR A MONTH. NOW THE FUEL GAUGE WILL NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. IT SHOWS EMPTY ALL THE TIME EVEN WHEN THERE IS A FULL TANK OF GAS. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH GAS IS IN MY TANK AND IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING. I HAVE TO DO QUITE A BIT OF TRAVELING DUE TO MY NATURE OF EMPLOYMENT AND FIND IT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITH THIS TYPE OF DEFECT. CURRENTLY, I HAVE 81,000 MILES AND THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. AFTER SOME EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE OR WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I THINK GM SHOULD HAVE A RECALL AND FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR WORSE. $800 IS EXPENSIVE FOR ANY FAMILY WHO HAS TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC ENVOY DENALI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WAS FLUCTUATING AND PROVIDING INACCURATE READINGS WHEN REFUELING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO HAVE THE FUEL LEVEL SENDER REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
GAS GAUGE FAILED TO WORK CORRECTLY. IT WOULD READ EMPTY AFTER JUST FILLING UP, SOMETIMES IT WOULD APPEAR TO WORK AND SHOW THERE WAS MORE OR LESS GAS THAN THERE ACTUALLY WAS. RAN OUT OF GAS A FEW TIMES, DUE TO FAILURE OF THE GAS GAUGE. FINALLY HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED (SOME SORT OF SENSOR), COST A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPLACE.
FILLED UP 06 GMC ENVOY WITH GASOLINE AND GAS GAUGE NEVER MADE IT TO THE FILL LINE. NOW THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND THE GAS GAUGE READS EMPTY AND THE GAS LIGHT IS NOW ON.VERY CONCERNED WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BY GMC. ALL I DRIVE IS GMC VEHICLES AND GMC SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING FOR ITS LOYAL CUSTOMERS. *TR
I WAS AT 1/8 OF A TANK OF FUEL, FILLED UP AND UPON RESTARTING THE CAR, THE LOW FUEL LIGHT CAME ON AND WON'T GO OFF. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2006 ENVOY IN AUGUST, 2009, WITH 36,000 MILES ON IT. ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2010, WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, I NOTICED THE FUEL GAUGE STARTED TO READ 1/4 TANK FULL. WHEN I LEFT HOME 45 MINS. EARLIER, IT READ 3/4 TANK FULL (I WORK APPROX. 7 MILES FROM HOME). BY THE TIME I GOT TO WORK, THE GAUGE READ "E" AND THE FUEL LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I FILL THE TANK, THEN THE LIGHT GOES OUT. GAUGE FLUCTUATION BEGAN AROUND 1/2 TANK FULL. I READ MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 2006 ENVOY FUEL LEVEL SENSOR, AND ME AND HUNDREDS OF OTHER CONSUMERS BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL IMMEDIATELY FROM GMC!!!! MY THING IS WHY WAIT UNTIL SOME UNFORTUNATE EVENT HAPPENS, AS SOMEONE BEING STUCK ON A ROAD OR WORSE, A LIFE BEING LOSS!! *TR
MY WIFE AND I WERE ON A TRIP DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN OUR 2006 GMC ENVOY, THE GAS GAUGE READ BETWEEN 1/4 TANK AND "E" AND I PLANNED TO GET OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT (APROX 12 MILES) TO REFUEL. WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND PASSING IN THE LEFT LANE, OUR ENVOY JUST DIED! WITH NO POWER ANYTHING (BRAKES, STEERING, ECT.) I DESPERATELY MADE MY WAY TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED. WE HAD RUN OUT OF FUEL EVEN THOUGH THE GAUGE READ PLENTY TO MAKE THE NEXT EXIT. STRANDED FOR HOURS AWAITING A TOW, OUT TRIP WAS RUINED. SINCE THEN THE FUEL GAUGE ON OUR ENVOY HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY, IT WILL READ "E" FOR DAYS JUST AFTER WE FILL UP THEN JUMP ALL OVER THE DIAL NEVER GIVING US THE SAME READING EACH TIME WE START THE CAR. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE LOCAL GMC DEALER THIS WILL COST US $600 TO FIX OR LIVE WITH AN UNRELIABLE FUEL GAUGE, OF COURSE WHAT THE DON'T TELL YOU IS THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH GMC ENVOYS THAT YOU WILL ONLY HEAR ABOUT WHEN SEARCHING THE INTERNET. *TR
MY GAS GAUGE STARTED OFF FLUCTUATING BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY BACK IN OCTOBER 2010. NOW IT'S JUST STUCK ON EMPTY ALL THE TIME, AND AS SOON AS I TURN THE CAR ON, THE LOW FUEL BELL DINGS, THE PANEL TELLS ME I HAVE LOW FUEL (EVEN IF ITS FULL), AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SHOULDER, POWERED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR AND THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000. *TR
GAS GUAGE READS EMPTY, EVEN AFTER FILLING TANK. IT SOMETIMES FLUCTUATES, BUT RETURNS TO EMPTY WITH THE WARNING LIGHT ON AND ALARM SOUNDING. THIS IS A 2006 ENVOY XL WITH 50,000 MILES. I AM GREATLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE VEHICLE RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND BEING SUBSEQUENTLY IMPACTED FROM THE REAR, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE READ OVER 400 COMPLAINTS ONLINE, AFFECTING MANY VEHICLE YEARS AND MODELS. WHEN WILL ACTION BE TAKEN TO RECALL AND REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE UNITS? AFTER BAILING OUT GM WITH TAXPAYER DOLLARS, I WOULD EXPECT THAT GM WOULD FOLLOW THE CORRECT ETHICAL COURSE AND BOTH REDESIGN AND REPLACE THE UNIT IN ALL THE VEHICLE YEARS AFFECTED; I BELIEVE AN EXISTING COMPLAINT ALREADY EXISTS, COMPLAINT(DP10001)
FAULTY FUEL TANK SENSOR IN MY 2006 GMC ENVOY. FILLED MY TRUCK UP ONLY FOR THE GAS GAUGE TO READ EMPTY. THEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON! TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THE FUEL TANK SENSOR FAILED AND HE NOTED IT A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE ENVOY. ITS COSTING ME 800.00 TO FIX THIS. I HAVE DONE SOME WEB RESEARCH AND IT INDEED LOOKS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM, I FIND THIS VERY DISTURBING. *TR
WITH NO ADVANCE WARNING, THE FUEL GAUGE STARTED READING EMPTY IMMEDIATELY WHEN TANK WAS FILLED. POSSIBLY RELATED OR NOT, THE FLAP IN THE FUEL FILLER NECK DISAPPEARED ABOUT THE SAME TIME THE PROBLEM STARTED. ONCE THE PROBLEM BEGAN, THE FUEL LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED AND WOULD STAY ON CONSTANTLY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON AS WELL. AS FUEL LEVEL DECREASED SOMETIMES THE GAUGE WOULD APPARENTLY READ CORRECTLY (E.G. BELOW 3/4 TANK). STOPPING OR STARTING SOMETIMES CAUSED THE GAUGE TO FLUCTUATE; OFTEN THE GAUGE GOES UP AND DOWN SEVERAL TIMES A MINUTE. OVER THE LAST EIGHT MONTHS THE CONDITION HAS WORSENED AND THE GAUGE OFTEN READS EMPTY, WITH OCCASIONAL SWINGS UP TO APPROXIMATELY CORRECT LEVEL (ESTIMATE BASED ON MILES DRIVEN SINCE FILLING TANK). HOWEVER, THE GAUGE NEVER WENT BELOW 1/8 TANK, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS LESS THAN TWO GALLONS FROM EMPTY IN A 24-GALLON TANK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WAS DEFECTIVE. WHEN SHE FILLED THE FUEL TANK, THE GAUGE WOULD INDICATE THAT THE TANK WAS EMPTY AND THE GAS LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED EVERYTIME SHE FILLED THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,721. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 76,600.
FUEL LEVEL GAUGE WILL READ FULL OR PARTIALLY FULL WHEN FUEL TANK IS ACTUALLY EMPTY. OR WHEN FUEL TANK IS FULL, THE FUEL GAUGE WILL STILL READ EMPTY AND LOW FUEL INDICATOR LIGHT IS ON. VEHICLE ACTUALLY RAN OUT OF FUEL WHEN THE FUEL GAUGE READ 1/4 TANK. VEHICLE STOPPED JUST OUT OF A BUSY INTERSECTION, COULD HAVE RESULTED IN MAJOR ACCIDENT. *TR
GAS TANK SENSOR FAILED OCTOBER 2010 ON 2006 GMC ENVOY SLT. SHOWS TANK EMPTY REGARDLESS OF AMOUNT OF GAS PUT IN TANK WHICH RESULTS IN THE 'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT COMING ON 99% OF THE TIME. COST TO REPAIR IS APPROXIMATELY $600. MILEAGE ON CAR WAS ABOUT 60,000 MILES. *TR

AFTER EXITING INTERSTATE AND PULLING INTO PARKING LOT OF OUR CHILD CARE PROVIDER, CAR RAN OUT OF GAS AND CAME TO A STOP. FUEL GAUGE INDICATED THAT THERE WAS APPROX 1/4 TANK OF GAS. WALKED TO GAS STATION WITH MY TWO CHILDREN TO BUY A GAS CAN AND FILL TANK UP. GAS GAUGE HAS CONTINUED TO BE INACCURATE. WHEN GAS TANK IS FULL, THE "LOW GAS LIGHT" TURNS ON. AFTER DRIVING APPROX 50 MILES, LIGHT GOES OFF AND GAUGE INDICATED CAR HAS APPROX 3/4 TANK, ALTHOUGH THE GAS GAUGE FLUCTUATES BETWEEN 3/4 TANK FULL AND 1/4 TANK FULL. WE NOW HAVE TO SET THE "TRIP" BUTTON TO 0 EVERY TIME WE FILL THE ENVOY WITH A FULL TANK OF GAS AND WE REFILL WHEN MILAGE IS AT APPROX 250 MILES. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES THAT WE HAVE ADDED 23 GALLONS OF GAS (ALMOST A COMPLETELY EMPTY TANK) AND GAS GAUGE INDICATES THERE IS STILL A 1/4 TANK OF GAS LEFT. WE HAVE NOT HAD THE GAS GAUGE FIXED AT THIS TIME. HAVE BEEN QUOTED BY ONE GMC DEALER SHIP THAT COST WOULD BE $600-800.
AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK THE FUEL SYSTEM GAUGE WOULD GO TO FULL THE GO ALL THE WAY TO EMPTY, 1/2 FULL THEN BACK FULL AND REPEAT SAME ACTION. WHAT IF I WAS TO RUN OUT OF GAS, AND GET HIT BEHIND? 8TR
I HAVE A 2006 GMC ENVOY WITH 51,000 MILES ON IT. THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD FLUCTUATE BETWEEN EMPTY AND FULL AND NOW IS STUCK ON EMPTY. IT HAS LEFT MY WIFE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD A FEW TIMES BECAUSE SHE HAD NO IDEA HOW MUCH FUEL SHE HAD. ONE TIME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT ON A BUSINESS TRIP. I DON'T WANT MY WIFE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE BECAUSE GM IS TO CHEAP TO FIX A VERY WIDESPREAD PROBLEM ON THIS ISSUE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS TSB'S ON THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET CONCERNING THIS ISSUE WITH GM VEHICLES. THEY KNOW THE PROBLEM BUT WHEN YOU CONTACT THEM THEY SAY IT ISN'T COVERED AND WILL COST AROUND $800 TO FIX. I S SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR A FIX TO A VERY WELL KNOWN PROBLEM ON A VEHICLE NOT THAT OLD. THIS IS VERY MUCH A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN THE CAR SHUTS DOWN AND YOU LOOSE POWER STEERING IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC, NOT TO MENTION STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. SOONER OR LATER IT WILL CAUSE A WRECK IF IT HASN'T ALREADY. *TR
2006 GMC ENVOY. FILL UP THE GAS TANK TO FULL AND THE GAS GAUGE READS AS EMPTY! YOU DRIVE THE TRUCK FOR A FEW MILES THEN THE GAUGE WILL READ NORMAL. THEN FILL UP AGAIN AND READS EMPTY. I HAVE SEEN ALOT OF PEOPLE ONLINE WITH THIS SAME EXACT PROBLEM.. SEEMS LIKE EVERY 2006 HAS THIS PROBLEM. *TR
FAULTY FUEL GAUGE SENSOR, AS WELL AS A FAULTY INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATES THERE IS NO FUEL WHEN I HAVE JUST FILLED UP MY 2006 GMC ENVOY. STARTED WITH FILLING UP MY SUV AND AFTER I GOT GAS, THE GAUGE DROPPED TO EMPTY WITH THE BELL CHIMING LOW FUEL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON CONSTANTLY EVEN AFTER HAVING THE CAR SERVICED. IT GOES OFF INTERMITTENTLY. DEFINITELY DANGEROUS AS YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN YOU WILL RUN OUT OF GAS, ESPECIALLY WITH TRAVELING WITH YOUNG CHILDREN. *TR
FUEL SYSTEM: AFTER FILLING UP MY 2006 GMC ENVOY WITH FUEL MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. IT TOOK 2 ATTEMPTS OF TURNING THE IGNITION IN ORDER FOR MY VEHICLE TO START. THE FUEL METER STILL CONTINUED TO READ EMPTY. ANY TIME, I WOULD STOP AND RESTART THE VEHICLE, I HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I CALLED ONSTAR TO PROVIDE ME WITH A GOODWRENCH DIAGNOSIS ON THE VEHICLE AND THEY STATED THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THE FUEL SYSTEM. ONSTAR STATED THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE SERVICED WITHIN 7 DAYS. I NOTICED THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION FOR THIS SAME ISSUE THAT WAS OPENED ON JANUARY 7, 2010. *TR
THE FUEL SENSOR ON OUR 2006 GMC ENVOY FAILED IN SEPTEMBER 2010. THE LOW FUEL LIGHT NEVER GOES OFF EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS JUST BEEN FILLED UP THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON. WE MUST USE OUR TRIP TO KEEP TRACK OF MILEAGE TO LET US KNOW WHEN IT IS TIME TO FILL UP. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AS YOU NEVER KNOW EXACTLY HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK AND BECAUSE THE GAS MILEAGE ON THIS VEHICLE FLUCTUATES FROM 15MPG-18MPG. WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WE ARE NOT SURE IF IT IS BECAUSE OF THE FUEL SENSOR OR BECAUSE OF ANOTHER PROBLEM. IT SEEMS THAT MANY GMC ENVOYS HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM AND RECENTLY WE READ AN ARTICLE STATING THAT GMC IS LOOKING INTO THIS PROBLEM. WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR PROBLEMS ARE REPORTED AS WELL. *TR
THE FUEL TANK LEVEL SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE. THIS MAY RESULT IN VEHICLE RUNNING OUT OF FUEL,STALL, BEING REAR ENDED OR STRANDED IN HARSH WINTER CONDITIONS. *TR
OWN A 2006 GMC ENVOY WITH 40,000 MILES .THE SENDING UNIT IN FUEL TANK IS FAULTY. WHEN YOU FILL THE TANK IT WILL SAY FULL AND THEN IT WILL READ EMPTY. IT GOES UP AND DOWN BUT IT USUALLY READS EMPTY AND IS NEVER CORRECT. *TR
FUEL METER REPEATEDLY INCORRECT ON 2006 GMC ENVOY. AFTER FILLING THE CAR, THE FUEL LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE AND THE GAS METER WILL READ EMPTY. DRIVING WILL CAUSE THE GAS METER TO BOUNCE BETWEEN 0 - FULL SPORADICALLY - SOMETIMES STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE, AT 1/4, 3/4, 1/2 TANK. ALWAYS INCORRECT. VERY DANGEROUS. NO IDEA WHERE MY FUEL LEVEL IS AT ANY TIME. *TR
THE FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT READ CORRECTLY. THIS HAS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS SEVERAL TIMES NOW IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC DUE TO THE GAUGE TELLING ME I HAD MORE FUEL THAN I ACTUALLY HAD. *KB
GAS GAUGE READS EMPTY, EVEN AFTER FILLING TANK. IT SOMETIMES FLUCTUATES, BUT RETURNS TO EMPTY WITH THE WARNING LIGHT ON AND ALARM SOUNDING. THIS IS A 2006 ENVOY XL WITH 50,000 MILES. I AM GREATLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE VEHICLE RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND BEING SUBSEQUENTLY IMPACTED FROM THE REAR, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE READ OVER 400 COMPLAINTS ONLINE, AFFECTING MANY VEHICLE YEARS AND MODELS. WHEN WILL ACTION BE TAKEN TO RECALL AND REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE UNITS? AFTER BAILING OUT GM WITH TAXPAYER DOLLARS, I WOULD EXPECT THAT GM WOULD FOLLOW THE CORRECT ETHICAL COURSE AND BOTH REDESIGN AND REPLACE THE UNIT IN ALL THE VEHICLE YEARS AFFECTED; OR IS THIS A COST-BENEFIT ISSUE FOR THE COMPANY? WITH SO MANY YEARS AND MODELS AFFECTED, WOULD IT BE CHEAPER TO PAY TO SETTLE ANY INJURY OR DEATH RELATED LAWSUITS VERSUS THE COST OF REDESIGNING AND REPLACING ALL OF THE DEFECTIVE UNITS? GM ENVOY 2006 FUEL LEVEL GAUGE HAS BEEN FAILING ON THOUSANDS OF CARS FOR YEARS AND I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THE ENVOY AND TRAILBLAZERS GAUGE DROPS TO EMPTY, THEN BOUNCE BETWEEN FUEL AND EMPTY THEN IS STAYS ON E UNTIL THE REPAIR IS MADE. THIS HAS CAUSED MY WIFE TO RUN OUT OF GAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY AND ALMOST CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT. GM DEALERSHIPS SAYS THEY HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THE PROBLEM FOR YEARS AND THERE IS NO RECALL AND OWNERS MUST PAY GM $800 TO REPAIR THIS KNOWN ISSUE THAT I FIND HAVE BEEN GOING ON SINCE 2005. GM REFUSES TO RECALL THE FUEL SENSOR AND SAYS THEY WILL ONLY REPAIR IF UNDER WARRANTY FOR FREE. THE LABOR IS $670 PART BRING THE REPAIR TO $800+. IF THIS ISSUE IS SEARCHED ONLINE YOU WILL FIND THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS AND THE FEAR OF THIS CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT IF IT HAS NOT ALREADY OCCURED. 2006 GMC ENVOY FUEL GAUGE STARTED TO WORK ERRATICALLY - WOULD GO TO EMPTY AFTER CAR WAS FILLED UP. EVENTUALLY STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD CYCLE ON AND OFF. THE LIFTGATE OF MY 2006 GMC ENVOY XL CAME APART FROM THE BODY. THE TOP PLASTIC PIECE FIRST STARTED TO APPEAR NOT ALIGNED WITH THE ACTUAL LIFTGATE. THAT CONTINUED TO GET WORSE OVER TIME AND THE RUBBER MOLDING AROUND THE LIFTGATE BECAME WARPED. EVENTUALLY, WITHIN 3 MONTHS, THE WHOLE LIFTGATE WAS NOT ALIGNED AND I WAS HAVING ISSUES CLOSING IT. I HAD TO HAVE THE TOP MOLDING REPLACED, THE RUBBER REPLACED AND THE DOOR WELDED BACK ON PROPERLY. I WAS TOLD THAT WHATEVER HELD THE LIFTGATE ON WAS RUSTED. *TR
AFTER FILLING GAS TANK THE GAUGE SUDDENLY DROPPED TO EMPTY AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. GAUGE GOES UP AND DOWN ERATICALY. CONTACTED GMC TO WHICH THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME. SEARCH ON LINE SAID THERE WAS A SILENT RECALL OTHER OWNERS SAID GM TOOK CARE OF PROBLEM UP TO 70,000 MILES GM TOLD ME IT WAS NOT A GM WEB SITE SO THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING .. MY FUEL LEVEL SENSOR IS FAILING TO TELL ME THE TRUE AMOUNT OF FUEL LEFT IN THE TANK. I OFTEN SAYS THAT THE TANK IS EMPTY BUT MANY TIMES IT CHANGES FROM 3/4 FULL TO 1/2 FULL AND SOMETIMES BACK UP TO FULL THEN EMPTY. I REPLACED THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR AND IS NOW WORKING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL BURNING ODOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE HARNESS SWITCH HAD OVERHEATED AND BURNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,450.
I HAVE A 2006 ENVOY XL THAT HAS A FAULTY GAS GAUGE. IT SHOWS EMPTY MOST OF THE TIME. I HAVE CONTACTED ONSTAR AND LET THEM RUN A DIAGNOSTIC OF THE SITUATION. THEY TELL ME THAT THE COMPUTER WILL SENSE A LOW OR EMPTY FUEL TANK AND SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AS TO NOT HARM THE ENGINE. I HAVE READ A LOT OF BLOGS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON A LOT OF ENVOYS AND HAVE SEEN NO RECALLS ON IT. CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY NOT ? I DON'T WANT A $500 BILL TO FIX THEIR PROBLEM OF A LOT OF ENVOYS.
