Truck has just over 150k miles. Maintained well and garaged when possible. 1) Noticed a fuel smell from the driver side door area and after parking for a long weekend, a small pool of liquid formed in front of the driver side rear wheel. It was fuel dripping from the line leaving the evap canister that had rusted through. Resulted in a $600 repair to replace all rusted fuel lines so as to eliminate the risk of fire. 2) When approaching an intersection to make a left turn and slowing down the brake pedal pushes to the floor with no stopping power at all. Used the engine/trans in manual mode to slow the truck down and avoid an accident. Driver side brake lines are blown out in multiple spots near the ABS module due to corrosion. Potential cost based on research is in the $1000 ballpark. This level of rust on critical vehicle components is irresponsible and potentially deadly. GM needs to take this more seriously and realize that their cost-cutting measures are putting people and their families in grave danger.
MY ANTI LOCK KEEP KICKING IN, THE PANHEAD BY GAS TANK IS COMPLETELY SHOT AND THERE IS A BOX BY THE GAS TANK FOR EMISSIONS AND NOT ABLE TO GET 1 AND THE FRAME IN THE FRONT IS SHOT ALSO ALONG WITH THE BODY THAT'S COMPLETELY SHOT AND THE GAS GAUGE KEEPS TELLING EMPTY 1 TIME AND THEN IT GOES TO FULL TO EMPTY EVEN AFTER I FILL IT UP...
FUEL IS DUMPING INTO INJECTORS. 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500 DIESEL. ONLY HAS 135,000 MILES!! ENGINE BOGGS DOWN WHEN CLIMBING HILL, BRIDGE, OR TOWING.
THE ABS AND BREAK SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON AND STAYING ON. I LOST MY BREAKS LEAVING A PARKING SPOT AT MY LOCAL WALMART AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT! WE THEN MADE APPOINTMENT FOR THE BREAK SYSTEM TO BE CHECKED/REPAIRED. THE ABS CONTROL SYSTEM LIGHT WENT OFF FOR AWHILE BUT THEN COMES BACK ON EVEN AFTER THE REPAIR OF SAID REPAIR TO BREAK LINES. MY TRUCK ALSO HAS NO FUEL GAUGE THAT DOES NOT WORK. WITH THESE ISSUES ON MY VEHICLE MAKES IT VERY SCARY TO DRIVE AND MAKES DRIVING LIMITED. I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY TRUCK LONG DISTANCES DUE TO CONCERNS OF SAFETY AND POSSIBLY OF ABS WARNING LIGHT, BREAK ISSUES, AND FUEL GAUGE! I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK TO PICK ONE OF MY DAUGHTERS UP FROM SCHOOL TO LOSE POWER WHILE PUSHING ON GAS THEN SOME JERKING AND A FOUL SMELL OF RUBBER BURNING COMING FROM THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE AREA. I THEN HAD SOMEONE LOOK AT THE TRUCK AND WAS TOLD THAT WHAT EVER IT WAS HAPPENING THAT EVERYTHING LOOKED OKAY AND IT WAS POSSIBLE JUST A BREAK STICKING. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 DIFFERENT TIMES. MY TRUCK STILL HAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000 OR SO MILES ON IT. THIS TRUCK ALSO HAS BAD CORROSION ON BOTTOM BASEBOARDS OF THE TRUCK. I SAW BELOW THAT I AM ASKED FOR SPECIFIC DATE OF ISSUES. I CAN NOT PROVIDE SPECIFIC DATES SINCE THERE HAS BEEN SO MANY THINGS WRONG WHICH HAS HAPPENED AT DIFFERENT TIMES.
SOLD ME A "GOOD RUNNING VEHICLE" THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM FAILED CAUSE ENGINE TO SHUTDOWN, CAUSED NO BRAKING, VEHICLE PULLED OUT OF CENTER DO TO STEERING COMPONENTS, NO SAFETY BELTS IN REAR OF VEHICLE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST COMPRESSION AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO COURTESY CADILLAC (1345 EVANGELINE THRUWAY, BROUSSARD, LA) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT ONE OR MORE FUEL INJECTORS WERE FAULTY AND REMAINED OPEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT ALL EIGHT FUEL INJECTORS WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED APPROXIMATELY FIVE YEARS; HOWEVER, BUT THE FAILURE RECENTLY RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT UNDER DRIVERS SIDE CAB. TRUCK STUCK IN DRIVEWAY. LUCKY IT DID NOT HAPPEN ON HIGHWAY WILL COST ALMOST AS MUSH AS TRUCK IS WORTH TO HAVE ALL NEW BRAKE LINES INSTALLED
RUSTED OUT FUEL LINES. HAD TO REPLACE ALL FUEL LINES. RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES. BRAKES GAVE OUT WHILE DRIVING. LUCKLY NO ACCIDENT. HAD TO REPLACE ALL BRAKE LINES.
I HAVE A 2001 GMC TRUCK THAT THE REAR FRAME HORN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WERE THE FRAME IS WELDED ABOUT 6 INCHES FROM THAT POINT IT HAS A CRACK ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP OF THE FRAME RIGHT WERE THE BUMP STOP IS ON THE FRAME WITH ONLY ABOUT 1 INCH HOLDING THE FRAME TOGETHER AS OF RIGHT NOW THE REST OF THE FRAME LOOKED OK WHEN INSPECTED
ABS MESSAGE LIGHT CAME ON CONSISTENTLY AND DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE EXPLAINED BY MY MECHANIC SHOP, I HAD THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CHANGED AND NOW ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER THE ABS MESSAGE LIGHT IS NOW APPEARING IN THE MESSAGE BOARD AGAIN INTERMINTENTLY. I READ WHERE GMC STARTED A RECALL ON SEPTEMBER 22,2005 FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM WHICH CALLED( GM RECALL # 05068) BUT ONLY FOR "SALT BELT STATES" "SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK".INTERESTINGLY MY STATE WAS LEFT OFF OF THE LIST. I CALLED GMC AND THEY INDICATE THERE WAS NO SUCH RECALL AND SUGGESTED I CALL NHTSA. I HAVE NOW NOTICED THAT MY BRAKES LOCK UP AND DO NOT HAVE THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM OPERATING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 800 (NA). ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT NOTICED FLUID LEAKING FROM THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HILEY BUICK GMC (3535 W LOOP 820 S, FORT WORTH, TX 76116 (817) 632-8800 WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE LEAKAGE FROM THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY FAILED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO HILEY BUICK GMC WHERE IT WAS THEN DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. DURING THE THIRD FAILURE, THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE IN HIS GARAGE AND NOTICED A TRAIL OF FLUID ON THE GROUND. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, HE NOTICED FLUID COMING FROM THE STEERING AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN BACK TO HILEY BUICK GMC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT WITH A DIFFERENT PART NUMBER (19330428). THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,650.
LOST ALL BRAKES ON MY 01' GMC SIERRA 1500 SLE 4X4 WHILE BRAKING ON AN OFF RAMP, PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. BRAKE LINES APPEAR TO BE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT, WHICH DOESN'T MAKE SENSE WHEN I HAVE A 5 YEAR OLDER HONDA CIVIC, WITH 110K MORE MILES ON IT, AND THE BRAKE LIKES DO NOT LOOK NEAR AS BAD. BOTH SPENT THEIR LIVES IN MINNESOTA / WISCONSIN. AFTER DOING SOME GOOGLING, IT APPEARS THIS IS EXTREMELY COMMON WITH 2000-2003 GM TRUCKS. IF THIS WASN'T A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, WOULDN'T ALL UNCOATED BRAKE LINES RUST OUT AT SIMILAR RATES, IN THE SAME CONDITIONS? MIND BOGGLING THAT GM IS ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH NOT HAVING TO SPEND THE CASH TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. AS IF THAT MONEY IS WORTH MORE THEN THE PERSONS LIFE. *TR
VEHICLE STALLS AND SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AND IDLE. SOMETIMES IT STARTS BACK UP IMMEDIATELY, OTHER TIMES IT WILL JUST CRANK OVER BUT WILL NOT START. AFTER LETTING IT SIT SOMETIMES 5 TO 20 MINUTES AT A TIME IT WILL THEN START BACK UP. ALL RESEARCH AND ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE INDICATE A MANUFACTURER RECALL OF A CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WILL STALL OR SHUT OFF AT RANDOM WHETHER IT'S IN MOTION DOWN THE HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF A INTERSECTION OR AT A STOP SIGN . I HAVE ALMOST BEEN T-BONES DUE TO THE VEHICLE STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION AND I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE MY DRIVERS MIRROR DUE TO THE VEHICLE STALLING ON THE INTERSTATE AND NEARLY BEING HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. *TR
WAS ON MY WAY HOME, WHEN I WENT TO TURN LEFT ONTO MY ROAD. MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO ACCELERATE ACROSS A MAIN ROAD BECAUSE A VEHICLE CAME UP OVER THE HILL AT ME AND I COULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK. I COASTED DOWN A HILL UNTIL THE TRUCK STOPPED ROLLING. WHEN IT WAS TOWED TO A SERVICE STATION THE MECHANIC NOTED A RUSTED OUT HOLE IN MY BRAKE LINE. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE LAST TIME WAS IN 2013. YET THE MANUFACTURER DOES NOTHING TO ADDRESS THIS!!!!!!!
WHILE DRIVING IN DOWNTOWN CITY AREA, VEHICLE IN MOTION, ATTEMPTED TO APPLY BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO FLOOR ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THERE WAS NO WARNING TO LOSS OF BRAKING SYSTEM. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO RESIDENCE AND REVIEWED. BRAKE LINES FROM MASTER CYLINDER HAVE SUFFERED RUST DAMAGE AND CAUSED A FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. UPON FURTHER REVIEW ALL BRAKE LINES ON VEHICLE ARE EXHIBITING EXTREME CORROSION TO A SYSTEM THAT SHOULD NOT BE RUSTING.
I ALMOST RAN INTO ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE THE OTHER DRIVER STOPPED SUDDENLY AND I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES OVER AND OVER TO STOP WHEN THE RUSTED LINE BROKE. I WAS ON A CITY STREET DRIVING SPEED LIMIT AND WAS LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO STOP. I WAS TOWING MY TRAILER LAST WEEK AND ALMOST LOST THE TRAILER BECAUSE THE ENTIRE UNDERBODY IS RUSTED. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL TRUCKS AND NEVER HAVE SEEN THIS HAPPEN. IT WAS A SCARY SITUATION IN BOTH CASES.
TAKATA RECALL ABS & PARKING BRAKE LIGHT COMING ON. CLEAN CONNECTIONS, LIGHTS WENT OUT. WENT DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT 3 MILES, LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. SOMETIMES STARTING UP IN THE MORNING, LIGHTS WILL BE OFF. GET DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT 3 TO 5 MILES LIGHTS COME BACK ON. ACCORDING TO INTERNET THERE IS A BAD SOLDERING CONNECTION IN THE CONTROL MODULE. HAS THIS BEEN A RECALL AT ANY TIME. WHEN LIGHTS COME ON, ELECTRIC BRAKES TO TRAILER ARE IN OPTIMAL.
MANIFOLD BOLT(S) BROKEN. HEARD IT'S A COMMON THING. REALLY DISAPPOINTS ME ABOUT MY TRUST IN GM.
BRAKE LINE FAILURE. I HAD COMPLETE BRAKE LINE FAILURE WHILE COMING TO A STOP AT A BUSY ROAD. I WAS LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO HONK MY HORN AND GO THROUGH THE LIGHT. I DRIVE THIS TRUCK ALMOST EVERY DAY AND HAD THIS HAPPENED ON MY NORMAL DAILY COMMUTE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT STAINLESS STEEL LINES WERE NOT USED ON SUCH A VITAL PART OF THE VEHICLE. NOW I AM LOOKING AT A LOT OF MONEY TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES. I DO NOT HAVE A BILL TO UPLOAD AT THIS TIME AS THE REPAIR WORK HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETED YET.
HAVING HEARD ABOUT MICHELIN RECALLS I CHECKED THE TIRES ON MY 2001 GMC SIERRA PICKUP. I HAVE MICHELIN LT245/75R16 120/116R XC LT4 TIRES WITH LESS THAN 20,000 MILES WEAR. TWO OF THEM ARE "CRUMBLING" OUT 1 1/2 INCH ABOVE THE RIM. YOU CAN SEE FIBERS IN THE HOLES. THERE ARE CRACKS EVERYWHERE ON ALL THE TIRES. THEY HAVE BEEN COVERED FROM THE SUN. GRANTED THE TIRES HAVE AGE BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN "CRUMBLING" BEFORE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DISTRIBUTOR BRAKE BLOCK HAD EXCESSIVE RUST AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
SECOND BRAKE LIKE FAILURE IN AS MANY YEARS. AGAIN, RUSTED AT A BEND JUST AS THE REAR LINE TURNS DOWN INTO THE CENTER HOSE GOING TO THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL. LUCKILY, I WAS JUST FINISHING PULLING STRAIGHT INTO A PARKING SPOT WHEN IT POPPED JUST AS A I STOPPED. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO HIT THE PARKING BRAKE SO I DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING.
05068A PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CORROSION. MY VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR THIS RECALL IN 2006 WHICH INVOLVED REMOVING AND CLEANING THE ABS SENSOR AND REINSTALLING IT. NO REDESIGN WAS CREATED TO IMPROVE THIS FLAWED DESIGN. I'M HAVING THE SAME FAILURES DESCRIBED AND COVERED IN THIS RECALL. WHILE MOVING AT SLOW SPEEDS IN DRY CONDITIONS ABS KICKS IN AND INCREASES MY STOPPING DISTANCE. I HIT A PARKED CAR IN A PARKING LOT DUE TO THIS DEFECT. MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT <5MPH ON DRY PAVEMENT WHEN THE BREAKS WENT INTO 'ABS MODE' AND HIT A STATIONARY PARKED CAR. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT. WHEN I CONTACTED GMC I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE IT WAS ALREADY SERVICED FOR THIS RECALL IN 2006 AND THAT THE ISSUE WAS THEREFORE CLOSED. IN MY CASE THE ORIGINAL RECALL WAS NOT ADEQUATE AND MY CAR BREAKS STILL FAILED EVEN THOUGH SERVICED IN 2006. I HOPE THIS DOESN'T START TO OCCUR WITH ALL OF THE VEHICLES THAT WERE SERVICED ~10 YEARS AGO WHICH IS WHY I'M FILING THIS COMPLAINT. THE BRAKES FAILED DUE TO RUSTED OUT STEEL BRAKE LINES WHILE DRIVING.
ANTI-LOCKING BRAKES COMING ON WHEN STOPPING. NO REGULAR BRAKES 100 FEET PASS STOP ON HIGHWAY AND ONCE TURNING WHILE PARKING SPACE,HIT A FENCE IN FRONT OF ME WHEN BRAKES FAILED.
THE FRAME IS SEVERELY ROTTED BEHIND THE CAB ON BOTH SIDES. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A FRAME THAT IS THIS AGE ROTTED SO BAD. THIS REMINDS ME OF THE PROBLEM TOYOTA HAD WITH THEIR TACOMAS. BUT ATLEAST TOYOTA PUT OUT A RECALL TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM.
WENT TO STOP AT TRAFFIC LIGHT AND EXPERIENCED BRAKE LINE RUPTURE DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. HAD TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO COAST TO A STOP. FORTUNATE NO CARS WERE IN LANE.$1200.00 FOR REPAIR OF LINES.
I RESIDE IN MICHIGAN AND THE WINTERS HERE ARE SOMEWHAT BAD ON VEHICLES BUT THIS IS IN NO WAY ACCEPTABLE FOR GM TO GET AWAY WITH. I WAS OUT OF TOWN ON THE 15TH OF AUG ABOUT 80 MILES FROM HOME AND PREPARING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN TO ENTER ONTO THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED YELLOW AND THE DRIVER/CAR IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED SUDDENLY AND THANKFULLY PROCEEDED TO TURN HENCE GETTING OUT OF MY WAY BECAUSE WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES THEIR WAS NOTHING RIGHT TO THE FLOORBOARD, I HAD KNOWN WHAT JUST HAPPENED, RUPTURED A BRAKE LINE. I PROCEEDED TO MAKE THE TURN AND SOMEHOW GET THE TRUCK TO STOP WHILE GOING DOWN THE ON RAMP OF THE HIGHWAY. HERE IS MY BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH GM`S BRAKE SYSTEM. WHY WHEN 1 LINE RUPTURES ALL OF THE REST OF THE SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK TO AT LEAST GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP? ONCE I WAS ABLE TO HAVE A LOOK UNDER THE VEHICLE I NOTICED ALL BRAKE LINES APPEAR TO BE STEEL AND IN TERRIBLE CONDITION, SO NEXT QUESTION, WHY ARE AUTO COMPANY`S ALLOWED TO USE STEEL BRAKE LINES AND NOT A CORROSION PROOF STAINLESS?? OH, WAIT TO SAVE MONEY FOR BIGGER PROFITS AND CEO BONUS`S. I JUST CAN`T BELIEVE IN THIS DAY AND AGE WITH TECHNOLOGY WE CAN`T HAVE AN ABS SYSTEM WORK TO WHERE 1 LINE GOES YOU STILL HAVE SOME BRAKES FOR THE NAME OF SAFETY LIKE ON THE OLD CLASSICS WHERE EACH LINE IS INDEPENDENT TO EACH WHEEL. KUHMO ROAD VENTURE AT TIRE 245/75R/16 TREAD SEPARATION. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT WITH TIRES UNDER 10,000 MILES FOR THIS BRAND AND SIZE TIRE. THE FIRST INCIDENT TORE UP THE SIDE OF MY PICKUP WHILE TOWING A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER. WHEN THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED, I FELT A VIBRATION IN THE TRUCK AND PULLED INTO A ROADSIDE REST AREA. AFTER I STOPPED AND WAS ALMOST OUT OF THE TRUCK, I HEARD A LOUD POP AND THE TIRE TREAD HAD SEPARATED RIPPING THE SIDE OF THE TIRE OUT. AGAIN, TOWING A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER. IN THE FIRST INCIDENT KUHMO ARGUED FOR THREE MONTHS THAT I HAD DRIVEN THE TIRE FLAT. THEY FINALLY AGREED TO REPLACE THE TIRE AND REPAIR MY TRUCK. THESE TIRES ARE UNSAFE FOR HIGHWAY USE.
BRAKE PEDAL MOVED ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR WITH NO APPARENT HYDRAULIC PRESSURE WHICH FAILED TO ENGAGE BRAKES WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE. INSPECTION OF BRAKE LINES BENEATH DRIVERS SIDE DOOR REVEALED EXCESSIVE RUST AND A HOLE IN STEEL BRAKE LINE LEAKING FLUID.
BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO FLOOR. HAD TO DOWN SHIFT AND USE EMERGENCY BRAKES TO STOP. FOUND BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED LEFT FRONT ALONG CHASSIS. *TR

I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND APPROACHED THE GARAGE, APPLIED BRAKES AND ALL THEY DID WAS VIBRATE AND MAKE THAT PULSE NOISE. NO MATER HOW HARD I PUSHED THE PEDAL, THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP AND I WENT THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR AND ALSO KNOCKED OVER MY HARLEY THAT WAS IN THE GARAGE. ON 11-29-2014, WHILE DRIVING HOME WITH MY 2 SONS, ATTEMPTING TO SLOW DOWN TO TURN INTO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE HAD A BRAKE LINE BURST DUE TO EXTERIOR CORROSION (RUST). THE FIRST TIME A BRAKE LINE BURST IN THIS TRUCK WAS APPROXIMATELY 1 1/2 YEARS AGO. AT THAT TIME, WHILE DRIVING WITH MY 2 YOUNG SONS, APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE AND I WAS, FORTUNATELY, ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY TURN RIGHT, INTO A PARKING LOT. AT THAT TIME, I REPORTED THE ISSUE ONLINE AT SOME WEBSITE, BUT I CANNOT RECALL THE NAME OF THE SITE. THIS TIME I CAME TO THIS WEBSITE. I NOW HAVE TO HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED, AND HAVE TO HAVE ALL RIGID OEM BRAKE LINES REPLACED, RIGHT HERE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. THIS MOST RECENT INCIDENT, THE RUPTURE CAME FROM OUTSIDE THE FRAME RAIL, UNDER THE DRIVERSIDE SEAT. ALL OEM RIGID BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED. THE PROBLEM IN THE PAST (THE FIRST INCIDENT) CAME FROM THE LAST 3 INCHES OF THE BRAKE LINE GOING TO THE LEFT REAR WHEEL BEFORE IT ATTACHES TO THE FLEXIBLE HOSE. NOTE THAT THIS TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN IN THE MUD OR SAND, NOR HAS IT PUT ANY BOATS INTO THE WATER. ALSO, IT HAS NEVER PULLED/TOWED ANOTHER VEHICLE. I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT PULL ANYTHING IN THIS MODEL OF GMC TRUCK WITHOUT REPLACING ALL OEM RIGID BRAKE LINES. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON I-95 SOUTH IN VIRGINIA ON THE HOV LANES AT ABOUT 1:30 PM APPROACHING THE ROUTE 1 EXIT. TRAFFIC WAS DEAD STOPPED IN FRONT OF A MODERATE FLOW OF TRAFFIC AND EVERYONE QUICKLY SLAMMED THE BRAKES (INCLUDING ME) TO SLOW AND STOP TO PREVENT REAR ENDING THE STOPPED CARS. TRAFFIC WAS FLOWING AT APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH WHEN I SLAMMED MY BRAKES. THE BRAKES GRABBED MOMENTARILY AND THEN I HEARD A LOUD POP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR; THE VEHICLE BRAKES WERE GONE. NO PRESSURE WAS AT THE PEDAL EVEN AS I PUMPED IT. THE ONLY WAY OUT WAS TO HIT THE SHOULD AND BERM AND TAKE THE ROUTE 1 EXIT TO COAST TO A STOP; WHICH I DID. NO FLUID LOSS WAS EVIDENT AT THE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR AND I COULDN'T SEE EVIDENCE OF A BLOWN LINE OR BRAKE CALIPER UNTIL I GOT THE VEHICLE HOME AND NOTICED THE METAL (STEEL) BRAKE LINE BETWEEN THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE CONTROL VALVE/MODULE WAS LEAKING AT A PIT IN THE LINE CAUSED BY RUST. THE POINT WAS UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR PAN ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE FRAME AND PARALLEL WITH THE FRAME. IT BLEW A RUSTED PITTED SPOT ON THE LINE UNDER PRESSURE.. *JS

I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM AN EVENT THIS PAST SATURDAY HEADING TO DROP OFF MY SON. AFTER DROPPING HIM OFF I CONTINUED HOME. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 35 MPH WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED RED AND I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE AND WAS TERRIFIED WHEN IT WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR. ALTHOUGH I HAVE AS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP WITHOUT INCIDENT I HAVE AS STILL TERRIFIED. I AM A DISABLED VETERAN WITH A HEART CONDITION AND COULD HAVE HAD A HEART ATTACK. I HAD MY TRUCK LOOKED AT BY MY CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT MY BRAKE LINE RUPTURED DUE TO RUST AND IT WILL COST ME AROUND $1000.00 FOR REPAIRS. I HAVE HAD MANY MANY CARS AND TRUCKS IN MY LIFETIME AND NEVER EVER EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS OF THIS NATURE. IT SEEMS TO ME THE MANUFACTURE WOULD ALLOW FOR THESE NORTHERN CONDITIONS WITH THE PARTS THEY USE IN PRODUCTION. *TR

GOT IN TRUCK STARTED IT, DROVE TO THE TOP OF MILE DRIVEWAY APPLIED BRAKES. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I ROLLED INTO THE ROAD BEFORE I COULD APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE. AN ONCOMING CAR HAD TO BRAKE, SO AS TO AVOID HITTING ME. I GOT THE TRUCK BACK IN TO THE DRIVEWAY AND RODE THE PARK BRAKE DOWN THE DRIVE. CALLED A WRECKER TO TOW TO NEAREST GARAGE. THE BRAKE LINES RUPTURED IN THE DIFFERENT PLACES, LOST ALL BRAKE FLUID.
