I CONNECTED MY CAMPER TO THE TRUCK. PROCEEDED TOWARD THE STREET DRIVING ON THE DRIVEWAY. I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND FELT A THUMP AT MY FOOT THAT'S WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT SLOWLY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO STOP, LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND NOTICED BRAKE FLUID FLOWING FROM UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK. APON INSPECTION MY BRAKE LINES WERE TOTALLY RUSTED. THE TRUCK IS IN THE REPAIR FACILITY AS I WRITE THE COMPLAINT. THE TRUCK BODY IS IN GREAT SHAPE EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKE LINES. BETTER REGULATIONS NEED TO BE MET REGARDING BRAKE LINE. PLEASE HELP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUST BUILD UP. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPAIRED ONE BRAKE LINE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
THREE WEEKS AGO NOTICED LOW BRAKE FLUID. FILLED RESERVOIR AND DIDN'T SEE AND LEAKS. YESTERDAY I WAS IN TOWN SHOPPING AND WHEN I CAME OUT OF STORE AND LEAVING BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO FLOOR WHEN I TRIED TO STOP HAD ENOUGH BRAKE TO STOP BEFORE HITTING CAR IN FRONT OF ME. BOUGHT A QUART OF FLUID AND REFILLED TANK AND CAUTIOUSLY MADE IT THE 25 MILES HOME AFTER REFILLING TWICE. LOOKED UNDER TRUCK AND SAW LEAK ABOVE THE FUEL FILTER. THE WHOLE LINE UNDER TRUCK IS TERRIBLY CORRODED AND WILL NEED REPLACING. I LIVE IN HAWAII AND HAVE HAD THE TRUCK FOR 5 YEARS SO NO SALT DAMAGE HERE. *TR
EXPERIENCED COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. FORTUNATELY THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY TRAVELING 15MPH AND IN AN AREA THAT WASN'T CONGESTED WITH TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO STOP BY USING THE ROADSIDE BERM BANKING AND AVOIDED ANY FURTHER DAMAGE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY GM DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT BOTH BRAKE LINES HAD CORRODED SO BADLY IT CAUSED THE LINES TO RUPTURE RESULTING IN AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF PRESSURE AND COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. JUST DAYS EARLIER I HAD THE BRAKES SERVICED AT A DIFFERENT GM DEALERSHIP NEAR MY HOME AND THERE WAS NO MENTION OF THIS CONDITION NOR THE PREVIOUS REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM FROM OTHER OWNERS AS NOTED ON THIS WEB SITE. EVEN IF GM OR THE NHTSA DOES NOT DEEM THIS ISSUE FREQUENT ENOUGH TO ISSUE A TSB, AT MINIMUM A SERVICE WARNING/RECOMMENDATION SHOULD BE ISSUED TO GM DEALERSHIPS AND OTHER REGISTERED SERVICE PROVIDERS ALERTING THEM TO INSPECT FOR THIS CONDITION WHILE SERVICING THE BRAKING SYSTEMS FOR THESE MODEL YEARS. DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY CAN AND MOST LIKELY WILL OCCUR AS THERE ARE MANY VEHICLES FROM THESE MODEL YEARS STILL ON THE ROAD. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOD, HAD DIFFICULTY STOPPING TRUCK, LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. *TR
IT WAS SNOWING AND ICY OUTSIDE. I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE FOR AN UPCOMING RED LIGHT. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. I HAD VERY LITTLE BRAKING POWER. I STEERED TO THE CURB TO AVOID TRAFFIC IN THE INTERSECTION. I JUMPED THE CURB AND CAME TO A STOP AGAINST A POWER POLE. DAMAGE TO THE POWER POLE AND TO THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK. ONE OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINES RUPTURED. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION, ALL THE BRAKE AND FUEL LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK DUE TO BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REGULARLY AND PROPERLY MAINTAINED. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS GM VEHICLE DUE TO DEFECTIVE PARTS. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW FROM A LOCAL GMC DEALER. *TR
WAS ABOUT TO GO SHOPPING FOR CHRISTMAS GIFTS, STEPPED ON BRAKE AT TOP OF COURT AND THE PEDDLE WENT TO FLOOR. NOT JUST LOSS OF HYDROS FULL ON BRAKE MALFUNCTION , NO BRAKES AT ALL. I LIVE IN NEW YORK AND TRUCK WAS PURCHASED FROM CONNECTICUT. DECIDED TO MAKE LEFT TURN AND MISSED GETTING HIT BY 18 WHEELER BY INCHES. I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE TO BE TYPING THIS NOW, NO THANKS TO GM. NO WARNING LIGHTS NOTHING AT ALL JUST NO BRAKES. TO ADD EMERGENCY BRAKE DID NOT WORK. *TR
SUDDEN RUPTURE OF BRAKE LINE DUE TO HEAVY CORROSION. RUPTURE WAS EVIDENT ALONG A SEAM IN THE BRAKE LINE FROM THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. RUPTURE GREATLY REDUCED THE BRAKING CAPACITY. RENDERED VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME STUCK TO THE FLOOR BOARD WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DEPRESS THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITH AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINE WAS LEAKING FLUID DUE TO CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
STEPPED ON BRAKES APPROACHING YELLOW LIGHT ,SAILED RIGHT THOUGH LIGHT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN TRAVELING UNDER 5 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PEDAL BEGAN TO PULSATE. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP IMMEDIATELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
BRAKE LINE FAILURE. WAS ABLE TO AVOID A CRASH BUT ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED FROM THE OUTSIDE. ALWAYS RINSE UNDERCARRIAGE AFTER DRIVING ON SALT ROADS WHICH ISN'T THAT OFTEN IN CHESTERFIELD VA. SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES I KNOW OF 5 OTHER PERSONS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
WE HAD DRIVEN ABOUT 90 MILES FROM OUR MAIN HOUSE TO OUR LAKE HOUSE ON FRIDAY NIGHT-BRAKES WERE FINE. SATURDAY MORNING WE BACKED THE SIERRA UP AND HOOKED UP THE BOAT TO THE HITCH. AFTER HOOKING UP THE BOAT WHILE WE WERE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. WE DROPPED THE BOAT AND DROVE THE SIERRA A FEW MILES TO THE STORE. WHILE AT THE STORE WE NOTICED A LEAK ABOVE THE GAS TANK. THE LEAK WAS BRAKE FLUID AND THE SIERRA TOOK AN ENTIRE BOTTLE OF BRAKE FLUID. WE DROVE IT THE FEW MILES BACK TO THE HOUSE AND GOT THE TRUCK TOWED HOME THE NEXT DAY. WHEN THE GAS TANK WAS DROPPED WE NOTICED RUST SO BAD ON THE FRAME THAT A SCREWDRIVER WENT THRU THE FRAME. THE FRAME COULD HAVE BUSTED APART RIGHT BEHIND THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. WE WERE EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT THERE WERE NO INJURIES. *TR
ENGINE STALLED AFTER PULLING OUT ONTO HIGHWAY THEN RESTARTED, ENGINE STALLED AT STOP LIGHT RESTARTED 5 MINUTES LATER , ENGINE STALLED IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING THEN STARTED TWO MINUTES LATER. GM RECALL #06083 CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FROM DEC. 11, 2007 NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MORE OR MAYBE ALL 2001S WITH 8.1L V8 NOT JUST THE VIN # THAT ARE LISTED. *TR
MY 2001 GMC SIERRA 3500 WITH A 8.1L V8 ENGINE STALLED WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. IT WOULD NOT RESTART UNTIL A "COOL" DOWN PERIOD. THIS PROBLEM SURFACED AS NOT BEING ABLE TO START THE ENGINE AFTER IT HAD RUN AND THEN SET FOR 30 - 60 MINUTES AND WOULD NOT START UNTIL SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO START IT. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR THE LAST YEAR AND HAS PROGRESSED TO THE STALL ON THE FREEWAY. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET AN ENGINE FAILURE CODE FROM THE VEHICLE LISTED AS CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILURE. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THE RECALL FROM GMC (06083 -- CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR ENGINE STALL) AND CALLED THE DEALER WHICH INFORMED ME THAT MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I THEN CALLED GMC'S CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EXPLAINED THAT I'M HAVING THE EXACT PROBLEMS LISTED ON THE EXACT VEHICLE WITH THE EXACT ENGINE LISTED. ALSO I HAVE SINCE FOUND 3 OTHER COMPLAINTS WITH NHTSA OF THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM ON OTHER VEHICLES THAT WERE NOT COVERED. IT IS EVIDENT TO ME THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS BEYOND THE BLOCK OF VIN'S GMC RECALLED AND SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO COVER THESE OTHER VEHICLES. GMC DOES NOT SEEM TO BE INTERESTED IN EXTENDING THIS RECALL AND IT SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AS A VEHICLE STALLING ON THE FREEWAY IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT SHOULD BE RESOLVED. *TR
I PARKED MY VEHICLE AND UPON EXITING OBSERVED FLUID DRIPS ON THE PAVEMENT. I TOUCHED AND SMELLED THE FLUID AND DETERMINED IT TO BE BRAKE FLUID. I THEN OBSERVED FLUID DRIPPING FROM BENEATH THE DRIVERS SIDE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. I IMMEDIATELY CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID RES. AND OBSERVED IT TO BE BELOW THE 1/2 POINT. I WAS APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES FROM MY HOME AND DECIDED TO TAKE THE BACK ROAD WHICH REQUIRED LESS BRAKING. THE FLUID WAS STILL LEAKING UPON MY ARRIVAL HOME. I SHOULD NOTE THERE WAS NO FLUID LEAKING PRIOR TO DEPARTING MY RESIDENCE. I DID NOTICE THE PEDAL TRAVEL TO HAVE INCREASED AND THE FEEL TO BE SLIGHTLY SPONGY AS I DROVE DOWN A STEEP GRADE REQUIRING SIGNIFICANT BRAKING TO MAINTAIN THE 35 MPH LIMIT INTO HAVRE DE GRACE. THE VEHICLE (2001 GMC 2500HD) IS NOT DRIVEN MUCH AND MOSTLY FOR LOCAL (<15 MILES) TRAVEL. THE FRONT ROTORS AND CALIPERS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND THE LINES BLED APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS AGO. THERE IS RUST EVIDENT ON THE BRAKE LINES. I MIGHT ARGUE THAT DUE TO THE VEHICLE AGE THIS IS TO BE EXPECTED; HOWEVER, THE EXTREMELY LOW MILEAGE IS EQUIVALENT TO APPROXIMATELY THREE (3) YEARS WORTH OF DRIVING. HAVING OWNED MANY VEHICLES, THIS IS THE FIRST TO HAVE HAD SUCH A PROBLEM. I NOW HAVE THE UNSCHEDULED EXPENSE OF REPLACING THE BRAKE LINES. I AM LUCKY NOT TO HAVE BEEN FURTHER FROM HOME WHERE I MIGHT HAVE EXPERIENCED TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE POSSIBLY CAUSING A CRASH.*JB
MY ABS CONTROL MODULE IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. ABS IS DISABLED AND COSTS $1000 TO REPLACE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE BRAKES CAN LOCK UP AT ANY MOMENT OR ABS IS DISABLED AND MAY CAUSE BRAKES TO LOCK UP. THE ABS LIGHT ON DASHBOARD IS ON CONTINUOUSLY AND THE MODULE WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED OR FURTHER DAMAGE WILL OCCUR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH SIGMA STAMPEDE TIRES, SIZE 265/75/16. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 72 MPH, A LOUD NOISE EMITTED OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AS IT SPUN AROUND AND TRAVELED ONTO A DITCH BEFORE CRASHING INTO A FENCE. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP AFTER TRAVELING ONTO A NEARBY ROAD. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE SLIGHTLY EXPLODED WITH SEVERE TIRE SEPARATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT TIRE CENTER WHERE BOTH REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER'S TIRE WERE REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. THE VIN AND DOT NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MILEAGE OF THE TIRE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
ON THE DURAMAX DIESEL, WHILE UNDER A LOAD (TOWING, FULL BED) FUEL LINES COLLAPSE CAUSING SEVERAL CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS AND VEHICLE TO GO INTO "LIMP" MODE. MUST RELEASE VACUUM IN FUEL SYSTEM (BY LOOSENING THE FUEL FILTER THEN RE-BLEEDING THE FUEL SYSTEM) IN ORDER FOR THE CODE TO GO OFF. HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES, ONCE WHILE TOWING UP HILL. IF THIS HAD CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, I WOULD HAVE BEEN A GM SHARE HOLDER. VEHICLE HAS STALLED OUT SEVERAL TIMES IN THE WINTER DUE TO A COMBINATION OF THE WINTER DIESEL AND THE VACUUM FUEL SYSTEM. ONCE WHILE ON AN ICY ROAD, ON MY WAY TO WORK AT 4AM. GM NEEDS TO RECALL THIS. *TR
DRIVING LESS THAN A HALF MILE FROM HOME WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND EXPERIENCED TOTAL FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING. UPON INSPECTION BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND ONE FAILED. AS I WAS REMOVING TO REPLACE ALL OF THEM DUE TO THE RUST CONDITIONS, SEVERAL OF THEM WERE BRITTLE ENOUGH TO BREAK UPON MANIPULATION. *TR
THE FIRST DAY I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT CLOSER TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE BRAKES ACTIVATED. THE SECOND DAY THE PEDAL NEARLY TOUCHED THE FLOOR AND THEN THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY NEIGHBORHOOD INDY TIRE CENTER WHERE THEY QUICKLY DETERMINED BRAKE LINE FAILURE NEAR THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED COMPLETELY CAUSING A HOLE AND RAPID LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID. A NEW TEFLON COATED MAIN BRAKE LINE AND FITTINGS WAS INSTALLED ALONG WITH NEW BRAKE FLUID. OTHER BRAKE LINES WERE EXAMINE AND FOUND TO BE RUSTED BUT NOT COMPROMISED. THE TOTAL COST OF REPAIR WAS $461.38. *TR
TRUCK JUST SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING, COAST TO SAFEST PULL OVER, TURN KEY OFF, SIT AND WAIT A MINUTE, SOMETIMES LONGER, TRY TO START ENGINE, USUALLY STARTS, SOMETIMES LONGER WAITS. OTHER THEN THE APPARENT SAFETY POSSIBILITIES, DIDN'T THINK MUCH ABOUT IT. WELL, THIS WOULD HAPPEN EVERY ONCE & AWHILE. FOR OVER A YEAR NOW, LAST 3 MONTHS WITH INCREASING OCCURRENCES. TRUCK OUT OF WARRANTY, SO I HAVE IT SERVICED LOCALLY, DAVE COTE AUTOMOTIVE, A GM TRAINED TECHNICIAN WITH 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE, PROBLEM DIAGNOSED, CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AT THE REAR OF THE 8.1 L ENGINE. TECHNICIAN COTE HAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TIME REMOVING SENSOR, AT THIS WRITING STILL NO WORD. COTE GOES ON LINE TO SEEK ONLINE HELP FROM OTHER TECH'S AND DISCOVERS A SUPPOSED RECALL FOR MY YEAR AND MODEL TRUCK, THAT I NEVER RECEIVED. I ENQUIRE AT THE LOCAL DEALER VENDEHTTI MOTORS, FRANKLIN, MA ABOUT IT AFTER SUPPLYING THE VIN NUMBER, THEY TELL ME THAT MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED WITH THE RECALL? I SAY TO THEM THAT "HOW CAN THAT BE WHEN IT IS DOING WHAT THE RECALL WAS FOR" & THEY SAID "THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED AT THE FACTORY BEFORE MY TRUCK WAS MANUFACTURED"? SO I AM ASKING WHY I WILL HAVE TO PAY POSSIBLY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS THAT I CAN NOT AFFORD AT PRESENT, WHEN OBVIOUSLY THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER FIXED TO BEGIN WITH. SENSOR IN BAD LOCATION. I OWN A SMALL LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE CO. MOSTLY MOWING & SEASONAL CLEAN-UPS, I WAS EXPECTING TO USE THIS TRUCK TILL I HAD TO RETIRE. IT IS MY SOLE MEANS TO OPERATE PLOWING & LANDSCAPING BUSINESS. I CAN NOT AFFORD A NEW TRUCK. THIS TRUCK HAS LESS THEN 45,000 MILES ON IT, IT IS USED LOCALLY ONLY, LESS THEN 4,000 MI. A YEAR, I HAVE MAINTAINED IT WELL. NO MAJOR ACCIDENTS, LITTLE PLOWING DENTS. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM. IT SEEMS THAT GM IS NOT ONLY HAVING RECENT DIFFICULTIES WITH ITS VEHICLES BUT HAS BEEN HIDING ALLOT FROM THE PUBLIC & GOVERNMENT! *TR
BRAKES HYDRAULICS FAILED WHEN TRYING TO STOP. TRUCK IS IN THE SHOP NOW. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE LOST HYDRAULIC PRESSURE WITHOUT WARNING. HE WAS TRAVELING 10 MPH TOWARDS A BUSY INTERSECTION. FORTUNATELY, HE WAS ABLE TO TURN INTO A PARKING LOT AND USE THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP. THE REAR BRAKE LINES ON THE VEHICLE RUSTED AND LEAKED BRAKE FLUID, WHICH RESULTED IN THE LOSS OF PRESSURE. *TR
MY WIFE APPLIED BRAKES TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT AND PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR WITH NO WARNING LIGHT AND WITH THE GRACE OF GOD IT STOPPED BEFORE WE WERE T-BONED IN BUSY INTERSECTION. AMAZING THAT GM CAN PUT STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST WHICH BY THE WAY IS STILL ON THE TRUCK BUT NOT THE BRAKE LINES!!!!!!! *TR
REAR BRAKE LINE CORRODED, LEAKING. ANTILOCK SPEED SENSOR ENGAGES DURING LOW SPEED STOPPING - EVEN AFTER RECALL WORK WAS DONE. *TR
BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO SEVERELY RUSTED BRAKE LINE AT DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEEL. RUST IS SEVERE ON ALL SURFACES UNDERNEATH VEHICLE. WILL REQUIRE COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF ALL BRAKE LINES AND OTHER ASSORTED BRAKE COMPONENTS. ABS WAS MALFUNCTIONING PRIOR TO BRAKE LINE RUPTURE, LIKELY DUE TO CORROSION WITHIN WHEEL/HUB ASSEMBLY. THIS MALFUNCTION IS KNOWN TO GMC, AND OCCURS BY THE ABS ERRONEOUSLY SENSING WHEEL STOPPAGE AT LOW SPEED, CAUSING THE SYSTEM TO ACTIVATE AND INABILITY TO STOP. THIS HAS CAUSED NEAR MISSES IN PARKING LOT SITUATIONS, THUS THE ABS HAS NECESSARILY BEEN DISABLED UNTIL REPAIR (PULLING FUSE). NOT THE KIND OF ISSUES A LOW MILEAGE TRUCK SHOULD BE EXPERIENCING. *JB
VEHICLE WAS STOPPED IN LEFT TURN LANE WHEN IMPACTED HEAD ON BY SMALLER CAR ONCOMING TRAFFIC. VEHICLE WAS KNOCKED BACK APPROXIMATELY 40 FEET AND 16 FEET SIDE WAYS. NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED OR SEAT BELT LOCKED TO PREVENT DRIVER FROM IMPACTING STEERING WHEEL AND DASH BOARD, RESULTING IN FACE ,CHEST, ARM, AND LEG INJURIES. *TR
THE BRAKE LINE THAT RUNS ABOVE THE GAS TANK IS LEAKING. I HAVE NO BRAKE PRESSURE. THIS HAS BEEN A WELL DOCUMENTED GENERAL MOTORS PROBLEM. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND WAS APPROACHING A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. PUSHED DOWN ON BRAKE PEDAL WHICH WHEN ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. I IMMEDIATELY DOWN SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION FROM "D" TO "3" AND AFTER SLOWING DOWN TO AROUND 35 MPH, DOWN SHIFTED TO "1" SLOWED DOWN MORE AND THEN SHIFTED TO "2". AT THAT POINT, I WAS APPROACHING A CAR AHEAD OF ME, WAITING AT THE RED LIGHT, AND I BEGAN SLOWLY APPLYING THE PARKING BRAKE AND FINALLY CAME TO A STOP, NARROWLY MISSING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AFTER PULLING OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND DETERMINED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM A BRAKE LINE LOCATED IN THE AREA UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT LOCATION. *TR
AFTER BACKING MY TRUCK INTO MY DRIVEWAY, I WAS REACHING INTO THE BACK SEAT WHILE PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. ALL OF A SUDDEN MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. UPON INVESTIGATING I FOUND THAT I HAD A HOLE IN MY REAR DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LINE. IT WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. FURTHER INVESTIGATING SHOWED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE VERY RUSTY AND IN POOR CONDITION. I HAVE REPAIRED THE RUPTURED LINE, BUT AM FEARFUL OF ANOTHER RUPTURE. I BELIEVE THAT GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES ON THIS VEHICLE. WHY DOES GM NOT USE HIGH QUALITY STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINES FOR ALL VEHICLES? ALL VEHICLE MAKERS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO USE HIGH QUALITY STAINLESS STEEL FOR BRAKE LINES AND BRAKE COMPONENTS SUSCEPTIBLE TO RUST. *TR
FRONT BRAKE LINE FAILED. COMPLETELY RUSTED, IT BLEW OUT INSIDE ONE THE CLIPS THAT HOLD IT IN PLACE. HORRIBLE DESIGN. TRUCK IS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD TO REPAIR BRAKES. ESTIMATE WAS OVER 1500, JUST TO REPLACE THE LINES, WITH COATED STEEL, NOT STAINLESS. FUEL LINES ARE ALL RUSTED AS WELL. ALL NEED REPLACEMENT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK IN THE MORNING, APPLIED BRAKES AND THE PEDAL SEEMED TO GO DOWN FURTHER THAN NORMAL. WAS EXITING FREEWAY AND APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR BUT THE VEHICLE STOPPED. I THEN PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE EXIT RAMP AND GET VEHICLE TO STOP BY PUTTING IT INTO REVERSE THEN PARK. IT NOW HAD COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. AFTER INSPECTING UNDER THE VEHICLE NOTICED THAT A BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND FAILED. THIS ONE LINE FAILURE CAUSED BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES NOT TO APPLY AT ALL. AFTER INSPECTING FURTHER NOTICED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES HAVE SEVERE CORROSION AND LOOK LIKE THEY COULD FAIL AT ANYTIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED TO THE LEFT THEN SPUN AROUND 180 DEGREES BEFORE CRASHING INTO A MEDIAN. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A DISLOCATED HIP. THE VEHICLE WAS PERSONALLY INSPECTED BY THE CONTACT, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIE ROD HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 159,350.
WAS TRAVELING EAST ON RT 460 NEAR GLEN LYN VIRGINIA 4:30 AM IN THE EARLY MORNING TRUCK SWERVED AND I TRIED TO CONTROL IT DID A 360 OR MORE RAN BACKWARDS UP ON A BANK ON WET ROADS TURNED BACK AROUND CAME OFF BANK AND WENT BACK INTO THE EMBANKMENT WHERE IT MADE CONTACT WITH CONCRETE THROWN BACK OUT INTO HIGHWAY ENGINE WAS STALLED THE LEFT FRONT TIEROD BROKE IT IS APPROXIMATELY 1/2 INCH OR LESS IN DIAMETER WAY TOO SMALL FOR A HEAVY DUTY DIESEL TRUCK ITS SMALLER THAN MOST CAR TIEROD END I WAS AT COVINGTON COLLISION AND WAS ADVISED OF AT LEAST THREE MORE OF THESE TIEROD ENDS BREAKING INCIDENTS THESE TRUCKS NEED RECALLED NOW AND UP SIZED BAD I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE AS A MECHANIC SEEN A TIE ROD END BREAK EXCEPT THAT THE SOCKETS WERE SO WORN OUT IT WASN'T FUNNY BUT THEN YOU TURN YOUR WHEEL SO FAR BEFORE YOU TURN YOUR WHEELS THIS THING JUST BROKE OUT OF NOWHERE DIDN'T MATTER WHO WAS DRIVING THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN I CAN NOT BELIEVE SOMEONE HASN'T DID SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE NOW THEY NEED RECALLED NOW THEY BREAK UNDER THE GREECE BOOT JUST IN FRONT OF JOINT CANNOT DETECT WHEN ONE IS READY TO BREAK WITHOUT DISASSEMBLING IT. AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN A PERSON HIT THE BRAKES THE ABS ENGAGES AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP. ALL EQUIPMENT IS ORIGINAL AND IS NOT DUE TO RECALL REGARDING AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT. LOCAL GARAGE SAYS THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH CORRODED SPEED SENSER. MY PROBLEM IS I ALMOST RAN THROUGH MY HOUSE THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THE BRAKE LINES ON THESE TRUCKS CORODE AND BREAK WITHOUT NOTICE. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PREVIOUS PARAGRAPH AS I REPLACED THEM AND ABS IS STILL MESSED UP. CHEVROLETS INFERIOUR PARTS USAGE REGARDING BRAKE LINES CAUSE THEM TO BURST PREMATURELY. I ALSO HAVE SEVERAL FRIENDS WITH IDENTICAL TRUCKS WHO ALL REPORT THE SAME PROBLEM. BOTH PROBLEMS ARE ONGOING PROBLEMS. I FIXED THE BRAKE LINES BUT I HAD TO REMOVE THE ABS MODULE TO KEEP THE ABS FROM ENGAGING AND CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.
ON 12/14/2012. I ENTERED A CONTROLLED INTERSECTION, WENT TO APPLY BRAKES AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. TRUCK STOPPED, BUT I NEEDED TO APPLY A LOT OF PRESSURE. CHECKED BRAKE FLUID AND FOUND IT WAS A PINT LOW. ADDED BRAKE FLUID, BUT BRAKE PEDAL STILL NEEDED TO BE PUSHED TO FLOOR TO STOP VEHICLE. BROUGHT TRUCK TO MECHANIC ON 12/18/12. THEY PUT TRUCK ON LIFT, FOUND ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS CORRODED. THE BACK PLATE WAS ALSO CORRODED. TO REPAIR, ALL BRAKE LINES, BOLTS NEED TO BE REPLACED, AS MANY PARTS HAVE RUSTED AWAY COMPLETELY. ESTIMATE IS OVER $4,000 TO REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE NOTICED A HUGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, HE WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE BRAKE LINE AND IT APPEARED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS RUPTURED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE CONTACT WANTED TO PURCHASE A STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINE AND INSTALL IT ON THE VEHICLE BUT HE STATED THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

I WAS GOING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AT ABOUT 30 MPH WHEN MY BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. I APPLIED MY PARKING BRAKE AND SWERVED ONTO A NEARBY LAWN JUST MISSING A CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I SUBSEQUENTLY INVESTIGATED AND FOUND THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. WHY HAS NOTHING BEEN DONE? MY WIFE, DAUGHTER AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. METAL BRAKE LINES RUSTED CAUSING BRAKES TO FAIL AND REPLACEMENT OF MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE LINES. *TR
THE CHASSIS BRAKE LINES ON MY 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500 ARE RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT THEY ARE FALLING APART. I NOTICED LAST WEEK THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL FEEL IS STARTING TO GET MUSHY. AFTER INSPECTING THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM I DISCOVERED THAT ALL OF THE HARD CHASSIS BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED AND FLAKING APART. I CAN NO LONGER SAFELY DRIVE THIS TRUCK UNTIL THESE LINES ARE REPLACED. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SENSORS ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
TWO THINGS STARTED TO HAPPEN 1. THE TRUCK WHEN COMING TO A STOP OF A SPEED OF LESS THEN 25 MPH STARTED TO LOSE ITS BRAKES AND FEEL SPONGY. THIS CONTINUED UNTIL I GOT IT IN THE SHOP WHICH WAS ABOUT TWO DAYS. 2. THE TRUCK STARTED TO RUN VERY ROUGH AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS COMING ON AT THE SAME TIME AS WELL. AFTER I GOT IT IN THE SHOP AND THEY GOT IT UP ON A LIFT THEY FOUND THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES WERE ALL MOST RUSTED THROUGH AND STARTING TO LEAK. THEY HAD TO REPLACE ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES, FUEL LINES AND SINCE THEY HAD THE FUEL TANK DOWN THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP BECAUSE THEY FOUND RUST AND DIRT IN THE OLD PUMP. THE SHOP MECHANIC SAID THE LINES WERE READY TO FAIL AT ANY MOMENT. THE CHEVY DEALER I BOUGHT THE TRUCK OFF OF JUST FOUR MONTHS EARLY HAD JUST INSPECTED IT AND HAD SEEN THE RUSTED LINES AND EVEN REPAIRED A PIECE OF ONE OF THE FUEL LINES BUT LEFT THE REST GO TO FAIL DOWN THE ROAD, THEY GAVE ME LITTLE TO NO HELP. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM, DANGEROUS AS WELL AS VERY EXPENSIVE ONE AND NEEDS LOOKED INTO. IS THERE ANY HELP I CAN GET FOR THIS PROBLEM?? *TR
MAIN BRAKELINE FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO REAR DIFFERENTIAL RUSTED THROUGH AND LEAKED RESULTING IN A NO BRAKE SITUATION. *TR
BACKED OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND BRAKE PEDAL FELT SOFT. GOT TO END OF STREET AND SUSPECTING A PROBLEM BEGAN SLOWING EARLY. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH VERY LITTLE PRESSURE AND VERY LITTLE STOPPING POWER. WENT BACK TO HOUSE AND FOUND A LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID WHERE THE TRUCK HAD BEEN SITTING. OPENED THE HOOD TO LOOK AT BRAKE RESERVOIR AND FOUND IT EMPTY BUT ALSO REALIZED ALL HARD BRAKE LINES IN VIEW WERE HEAVILY CORRODED AND CRUSTED. LEAK WAS FROM BURST HARD LINE BELOW DRIVER. ALL HARD LINES ARE HEAVILY CRUSTED AND CORRODED NEAR THE POINT OF FAILURE IF NOT ALREADY FAILED. SOME FUEL LINES ALSO CORRODED. *TR
MOVING THE TRUCK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY I EXPERIENCED A SOFT BRAKE PEDAL. SEVERAL MINUTES LATER TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. LUCKILY I WASN'T GOING VERY FAST. WAS ABLE TO STOP AND INVESTIGATE WHY MY BRAKES FAILED. ALL BRAKE FLUID WAS GONE. UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE THE BRAKE LINE FAILED. FLUID WAS DRIPPING FROM A RUSTED BRAKE LINE. THIS TRUCK WAS GARAGED WHEN NOT USED AND HAS NOT BEEN EXPOSED TO SALTY ROADS. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR NEARLY 60 YEARS AND NEVER HAD A BRAKE LINE FAILURE. GM SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE POOR DESIGN AND REPAIR. I SEE FROM THE INTERNET I AM NOT THE FIRST TO COMPLAIN, I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE GOVERNMENT HASN'T FORCED GM INTO A RECALL FOR THIS SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR

THE STEEL BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER BACK ALONG THE FRAME RAIL ON MY GMC 2500HD RUSTED THROUGH AND FAILED THE OTHER DAY, CAUSING PRESSURE AND FLUID LOSS, FORTUNATELY WHILE TRAVELING AT A SLOW SPEED CLOSE TO HOME. OF THE VARIOUS VEHICLES OWNED OVER THE YEARS, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD A STEEL BRAKE LINE RUST THROUGH LIKE THIS. *TR

I ALSO TRIED TO USE MY EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THE BRAKE CABLE SNAPPED FROM ALSO BEING CORRODED. I DON'T LIVE NEAR SALT WATER OR ANYTHING. I'M JUST GLAD THIS HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT AT HIGH SPEEDS OR IT COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE. *TR
