SOLD ME A "GOOD RUNNING VEHICLE" THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM FAILED CAUSE ENGINE TO SHUTDOWN, CAUSED NO BRAKING, VEHICLE PULLED OUT OF CENTER DO TO STEERING COMPONENTS, NO SAFETY BELTS IN REAR OF VEHICLE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 800 (NA). ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT NOTICED FLUID LEAKING FROM THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HILEY BUICK GMC (3535 W LOOP 820 S, FORT WORTH, TX 76116 (817) 632-8800 WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE LEAKAGE FROM THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY FAILED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO HILEY BUICK GMC WHERE IT WAS THEN DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. DURING THE THIRD FAILURE, THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE IN HIS GARAGE AND NOTICED A TRAIL OF FLUID ON THE GROUND. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, HE NOTICED FLUID COMING FROM THE STEERING AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN BACK TO HILEY BUICK GMC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT WITH A DIFFERENT PART NUMBER (19330428). THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,650.
WAS TRAVELING EAST ON RT 460 NEAR GLEN LYN VIRGINIA 4:30 AM IN THE EARLY MORNING TRUCK SWERVED AND I TRIED TO CONTROL IT DID A 360 OR MORE RAN BACKWARDS UP ON A BANK ON WET ROADS TURNED BACK AROUND CAME OFF BANK AND WENT BACK INTO THE EMBANKMENT WHERE IT MADE CONTACT WITH CONCRETE THROWN BACK OUT INTO HIGHWAY ENGINE WAS STALLED THE LEFT FRONT TIEROD BROKE IT IS APPROXIMATELY 1/2 INCH OR LESS IN DIAMETER WAY TOO SMALL FOR A HEAVY DUTY DIESEL TRUCK ITS SMALLER THAN MOST CAR TIEROD END I WAS AT COVINGTON COLLISION AND WAS ADVISED OF AT LEAST THREE MORE OF THESE TIEROD ENDS BREAKING INCIDENTS THESE TRUCKS NEED RECALLED NOW AND UP SIZED BAD I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE AS A MECHANIC SEEN A TIE ROD END BREAK EXCEPT THAT THE SOCKETS WERE SO WORN OUT IT WASN'T FUNNY BUT THEN YOU TURN YOUR WHEEL SO FAR BEFORE YOU TURN YOUR WHEELS THIS THING JUST BROKE OUT OF NOWHERE DIDN'T MATTER WHO WAS DRIVING THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN I CAN NOT BELIEVE SOMEONE HASN'T DID SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE NOW THEY NEED RECALLED NOW THEY BREAK UNDER THE GREECE BOOT JUST IN FRONT OF JOINT CANNOT DETECT WHEN ONE IS READY TO BREAK WITHOUT DISASSEMBLING IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED TO THE LEFT THEN SPUN AROUND 180 DEGREES BEFORE CRASHING INTO A MEDIAN. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A DISLOCATED HIP. THE VEHICLE WAS PERSONALLY INSPECTED BY THE CONTACT, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIE ROD HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 159,350.
FIRST POWER STEERING AND HYDROBOOST LINES RUSTS THROUGH. BRAKE LINES RUPTURES IN CRASH DUE TO ACCIDENT. GM NEEDS TO RECALL THEIR TRUCKS AND FIX THE PROBLEM OF THERE FAULTY RUSTLY BRAKE AND POWER STEERING SYSTEM LINES. *TR
I OWN A 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500. I HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN EXCEPTIONAL CARE OF MY VEHICLE. THE MOTOR HAS ALWAYS HAD A KNOCK WHEN YOU START IT,WHICH DEVALUES THE TRUCK & IT ALSO HAS ALWAYS USED OIL. THE RACK & PINION HAS STARTED LEAKING. I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED A TRUCK & HAVE NEVER HAD A RACK & PINION GO OUT LET ALONE AT 152000 MILES.IT ALSO IS LOSING ANTIFREEZE BUT THERE ARE NO LEAKS. THE FUEL GAUGE HAS NEVER WORKED PROPERLY,NOW ITS ALSO FLASHES LOW COOLANT LIGHT WHEN ITS NOT LOW. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON LINE CONCERNING THESE SAME ISSUES & LAWSUITS. I DO NOT FEEL THE CONSUMER SHOULD BE HAVING TO FOOT THESE BILLS. I HAVE CALLED GM ABOUT MY CONCERNS & THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. WHAT CAN WE DO TO GET A RECALL FOR ALL THESE PROBLEMS. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A LOSS OF THE POWER STEERING WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. UPON INITIAL INSPECTION, IT WAS DETERMINED THE POWER ASSIST STEERING SHAFT WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE INITIAL REPLACEMENT, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, WHO DETERMINED THE POWER ASSIST STEERING SHAFT WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. UPDATED 12/29/2006 - *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE MAKING A U TURN AT 3 MPH THE POWER STEERING AND ABS FAILED. THIS OCCURRED ON A NORMAL ROAD DURING NORMAL BRAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS SLOWLY DRIVEN HOME. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED HOWEVER NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. WHILE MAKING A NORMAL SPEED U TURN THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED. THEREFORE, DELETING ANY ASSISTANCE TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM. NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGNS 05V005000 AND O5V379000 WERE ISSUED, BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO VIN. *AK
THE CONSUMER HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE AND A PULSATING SENSATION IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE MAKING TURNS. *NM THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE WRONG LUBRICANT WAS USED AT THE FACTORY FOR THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT. THE SHAFT WAS UNABLE TO BE LUBRICATED BECAUSE THE LUBRICANT WOULD NOT PENETRATE BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND SLEEVE. THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE. FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. *TC
WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT. SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING. HOWEVER, CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
A GMC SERVICE MANAGER CONVEYED TO ME THAT SEVERAL GM TRUCK OWNERS HAVE REPORTED EXCESSIVE WEAR TO THE STEERING SHAFT LEADING THROUGH THE FIREWALL. WEAR AT A U JOINT OCCURS AROUND 15,000 TO 25,000 MILES DUE TO EXCESSIVE TORQUE ON THE JOINT, AS EXPLAINED TO ME BY A GM SERVICE MANAGER. GM HAS RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM BY PROVIDING A NEW STEERING ROD. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT KEPT THE OLD PART. HOPEFULLY THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM. THIS FIX CAME AT A COST OF $180.00 TO ME. THIS COST, I BELIEVE, SHOULD BE BORN BY GM. IF THE STEERING ROD IS LEFT UNREPLACED, COULD LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL RESULT FOR THESE VEHICLES OVER TIME? I OWN A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500HD, 6 LITER, V8.*AK
SHAFT ON POWER STEERING SNAPPED, MECHANIC SAYS HAPPENS A LOT WITH FULL GM SIZE TRUCKS. *AK
STEERING WHEEL JERKS IN HAND WHEN DEPRESSING BRAKES WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN. THIS CAN BE DUPLICATED WITH THE VEHICLE IDLING IN NEUTRAL OR PARK. DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO FIX PROBLEM ON 01/25/02 BY REPLACING THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND BRAKE BOOSTER. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PICK UP MY TRUCK ON THE 25TH, I WAS NOTIFIED BY MARCUS THAT THEY HAD NOT FOUND THE PROBLEM AND THAT THEY CONSIDERED THE PROBLEM A SAFETY ISSUE, I WASN'T ALLOWED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE BUT WAS GIVEN A LOANER TO DRIVE. MY VEHICLE WAS RETURNED ON THE 29TH AND I WAS TOLD THAT SINCE THE DEALERSHIP COULD DUPLICATE THE "PROBLEM" ON ANOTHER NEW VEHICLE ON THE LOT, GM HAD DETERMINED IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM BUT A "CHARACTERISTIC" OF THIS VEHICLE WITH THE POWER ASSIST. I CONTACT GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE TO MAKE THEM AWARE OF MY CONCERN WITH THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE BUT TO NO AVAIL. I ASKED THEM TO DOCUMENT MY CONCERNS. IT IS APPARENT THAT THE DEALERSHIP WAS INITIALLY CONCERNED THAT THERE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE OR THEY WOULD HAVE RETURNED IT ON THE 25TH. I AM CONCERNED WITH GM'S RESPONSE THAT THIS IS A "CHARACTERISTIC" OF THE VEHICLE JUST BECAUSE SOME OTHERS EXHIBIT THE SAME PROBLEM.
