THE ABS AND BREAK SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON AND STAYING ON. I LOST MY BREAKS LEAVING A PARKING SPOT AT MY LOCAL WALMART AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT! WE THEN MADE APPOINTMENT FOR THE BREAK SYSTEM TO BE CHECKED/REPAIRED. THE ABS CONTROL SYSTEM LIGHT WENT OFF FOR AWHILE BUT THEN COMES BACK ON EVEN AFTER THE REPAIR OF SAID REPAIR TO BREAK LINES. MY TRUCK ALSO HAS NO FUEL GAUGE THAT DOES NOT WORK. WITH THESE ISSUES ON MY VEHICLE MAKES IT VERY SCARY TO DRIVE AND MAKES DRIVING LIMITED. I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY TRUCK LONG DISTANCES DUE TO CONCERNS OF SAFETY AND POSSIBLY OF ABS WARNING LIGHT, BREAK ISSUES, AND FUEL GAUGE! I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK TO PICK ONE OF MY DAUGHTERS UP FROM SCHOOL TO LOSE POWER WHILE PUSHING ON GAS THEN SOME JERKING AND A FOUL SMELL OF RUBBER BURNING COMING FROM THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE AREA. I THEN HAD SOMEONE LOOK AT THE TRUCK AND WAS TOLD THAT WHAT EVER IT WAS HAPPENING THAT EVERYTHING LOOKED OKAY AND IT WAS POSSIBLE JUST A BREAK STICKING. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 DIFFERENT TIMES. MY TRUCK STILL HAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000 OR SO MILES ON IT. THIS TRUCK ALSO HAS BAD CORROSION ON BOTTOM BASEBOARDS OF THE TRUCK. I SAW BELOW THAT I AM ASKED FOR SPECIFIC DATE OF ISSUES. I CAN NOT PROVIDE SPECIFIC DATES SINCE THERE HAS BEEN SO MANY THINGS WRONG WHICH HAS HAPPENED AT DIFFERENT TIMES.
HAVING HEARD ABOUT MICHELIN RECALLS I CHECKED THE TIRES ON MY 2001 GMC SIERRA PICKUP. I HAVE MICHELIN LT245/75R16 120/116R XC LT4 TIRES WITH LESS THAN 20,000 MILES WEAR. TWO OF THEM ARE "CRUMBLING" OUT 1 1/2 INCH ABOVE THE RIM. YOU CAN SEE FIBERS IN THE HOLES. THERE ARE CRACKS EVERYWHERE ON ALL THE TIRES. THEY HAVE BEEN COVERED FROM THE SUN. GRANTED THE TIRES HAVE AGE BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN "CRUMBLING" BEFORE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH SIGMA STAMPEDE TIRES, SIZE 265/75/16. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 72 MPH, A LOUD NOISE EMITTED OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AS IT SPUN AROUND AND TRAVELED ONTO A DITCH BEFORE CRASHING INTO A FENCE. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP AFTER TRAVELING ONTO A NEARBY ROAD. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE SLIGHTLY EXPLODED WITH SEVERE TIRE SEPARATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT TIRE CENTER WHERE BOTH REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER'S TIRE WERE REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. THE VIN AND DOT NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MILEAGE OF THE TIRE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED SEVERE TREAD AND OUTER SIDEWALL SEPARATION ON ALL FOUR TIRES, WHICH OCCURRED PREMATURELY. THE WIRE BELTS WERE VISIBLE IN THE FOUR TIRES. THE TIRES HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. UPDATED 5/7/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED ONE OF THE TIRES STEEL BELTS WERE SHOWING AND THE OTHER TIRES HAD RUBBER COMING OUT OF THEM/ ALL THREE TIRES WERE REPLACED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC 2500 HD TRUCK EQUIPPED WITH BCT HI-RUN TIRES, TIRE SIZE 275/245/75/16/ (N/A), DOT NUMBER: UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 60 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A LOUD NOISE. THE CONTACT MOVED THE VEHICLE FROM THE ROADWAY AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, FOUND THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS BLOWN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD EXPERIENCED FOUR TIRE BLOW OUTS WHEN THE SAME BRAND OF TIRE ON FOUR SEPARATE VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC, BUT THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH A SPARE BY THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE FOR THE TIRE WAS 12,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE WAS 239,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 242,000.
I AM WRITING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT A 2001 GMC SIERRA. IT HAS A SAFETY RECALL FOR THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WHICH CAN ALSO DAMAGE THE HUB ASSEMBLY, BUT THE DEALERSHIP STILL WANTS TO CHARGE A WHOPPING $550 REPLACEMENT FEE. THEY SAY THEY CAN NOT REPLACE THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WITHOUT REPLACING THE HUB ASSEMBLY EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN RECALLED. THE BAD SPEED SENSOR IS CAUSING THE ABS TO MALFUNCTION AT LOW SPEEDS AND IT IS ALSO SMELLING LIKE ELECTRICAL FIRE, THE PROBLEM HAPPENS EVERY TIME WE DRIVE HE TRUCK AND I AM WORRIED THAT IT WILL SOON CATCH FIRE. WE WERE TOLD ONE DAY THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, AND THE VERY NEXT DAY, AFTER INFORMING THE DEALER THAT IT WAS UNDER A SAFETY RECALL, THEY TOLD US WE HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HUB ASSEMBLY. I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT THE ENTIRE HUB BEARING IS BAD, BUT I BELIEVE IT PROBABLY WENT BAD AS A RESULT OF THE MALFUNCTIONING WHEEL SENSOR. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM DISAPPOINTED IN MY DEALER AND GMC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A SET OF COOPER MASTER CRAFT COURSER A/T 2 TIRES ON A 2001 GMC SIERRA. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 25-55 MPH THE VEHICLE STARTED DRIFTING TO THE LEFT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION HE NOTICED THAT THE TREAD ON THE TIRES WERE SEPARATING. HE HAD THREE SETS OF TIRES REPLACED. HOWEVER THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FOURTH SET. A REPRESENTATIVE CONCLUDED THAT THE TIRES ARE SEPARATING BECAUSE OF STONE DRILLING ON THE ROADS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 115,000. TRAVELING DOWN INTERSTATE 40 LEFT REAR TIRE SEPARATED AND TURNED VEHICLE SIDEWAYS. I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF VEHICLE WITHOUT CRASHING. I HAVE VEHICLE DAMAGE TO THE LEFT REAR AND LEFT FRONT OF TOWED VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. *TR

WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND PIECES OF THE INNER BELT OF THE TIRE BEGAN TO SEPARATE. THE FENDER FLARE AND THE MUD FLAP ALSO DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. A SPARE TIRE WAS PLACED ON THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 101,476.

WHILE TRAVELING WEST ON I-10, IN JEFFERSON COUNTY, I FELT A VIBRATION AND WAS SLOWING DOWN WHEN THE LEFT REAR TIRE FAILED. MY VEHICLE SWERVED AND I PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE RUBBER ON THE TIRE SEPARATED AND EXPOSED THE INFLATED TIRE. THE TIRE MAINTAINED ITS AIR PRESSURE AND SOME OF THE STEEL BELT WAS VISIBLE BUT THE TREAD WAS MISSING. THE VEHICLE TRAVELING BEHIND ME, APPARENTLY, OVER STEERED IN AN EFFORT TO AVOID MY DISCARDED RUBBER AND DROVE OFF THE ROADWAY. EMERGENCY PERSONNEL ASSISTED THIS DRIVER. THE DISCARDED RUBBER DAMAGED THE REAR BUMPER AND TAILGATE OF MY VEHICLE. THE TIRE WAS SENT TO FIRESTONE'S COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT AT BFNT LLC ( REF # 917284) AND THEY EVALUATED IT. THEY ARE NOT CLAIMING THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE. MY VEHICLE IS NOT USED OFF ROAD AND THE MODEL NUMBER IS LT245/75R16, STEELTEX RADIAL R4S II. *NM
DT: CONTACT STATED THE TREAD ON 2 FIRESTONE TIRE COME OFF. THE FIRST ONE CAME OFF AT 19,657 MILES ON 6-10-05. THE SECOND ONE CAME OFF AT 22,250 MILES ON 7-13-05 WHILE TRAVELING 65 MPH. HE BROUGHT THEM TO FIRESTONE ON 6-10-05. THEY MADE HIM AN OFFER, BUT IT DID NOT SEEM REASONABLE. ONE MONTH LATER, THE SECOND TIRE FAILED, AND THEY PRORATED THE TIRES FOR WEAR. CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE TIRES, AND WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE TIRES WERE THE ORIGINAL ONES THAT CAME ON THE TRUCK THAT HE BOUGHT IN 2001. THEY WOULD NOT GIVE HIM THE NEW TIRES UNTIL HE GAVE THEM THE OLD TIRES. THERE WAS DAMAGE DONE TO TRUCK. HE STILL HAD THE FIRST TIRE THAT WAS DAMAGED. I OWN A 2001 GMC SIERRA, I WAS DRIVING FROM ONE JOB TO THE OTHER WHEN A PERSON DRIVING NEXT TO ME FLAGGED ME DOWN SAYING THAT I DROPPED MY SPARE TIRE. I STOPPED AND LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK, I WAS MISSING MY TIRE AND THE CABLE THAT WAS HOLDING THE SPARE TIRE WAS BUSTED. LUCKILY THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AFTER SCHOOL AND SPEED LIMITS WERE AT 20MPH. NO ONE GOT HURT BUT IF THIS WOULD OF HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN A CONGESTED HIGH SPEED ROAD THIS COULD OF CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE SAFTY OF ALL PEOPLE ARE AT RISK OF THIS HAPPENING AS I EXPERIENCED IT MYSELF. A 2001 VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE A PART THAT CAN BUST AND DROP A TIRE ON THE ROAD. I TOOK THIS REPORT TO CHAMPION GMC LOCATED IN CORPUS CHRISTI TEXAS. THE MAN THAT ATTENDED ME MEL DID NOTHING BUT GIVE ME A 200.00 ESTIMATE FOR PARTS AND LABOR REPAIR. I BELIEVE THAT THIS PART SHOULD BE UNDER RECALL BEFORE IT CAUSES A PROBLEM OR DEATH.*AK
DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE LEFT FRONT SIDE WHEEL LOCKED UP AND WAS UNABLE TO UNLOCK IT. DRIVER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE LEFT FRONT SIDE BRAKE CALIPER SHEARED OFF AND THAT THE WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK TWO BOLTS SHEARED OFF THE WHEEL CAUSING THE CALIPER TO COME LOOSE AND GET CAUGHT IN THE WHEEL OPENING TEARING THE BRAKE LINE. *NM

TREAD SEPARATION ON FIRESTONE STEELTEX RADIAL A/T, LT245/75/R16, DOT VN11 BAC1301. WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON I80, OUTER BELT APPARENTLY BROKE, CAUSING A STRIP OF TREAD 1 1/2 " WIDE X 33" LONG TO SEPARATE FROM THE TIRE. TREAD SEPARATION WAS DIAGONAL ACROSS THE TIRE FROM OUTSIDE TO IN. TIRE WAS MOUNTED ON THE LEFT REAR OF A 2001 GMC 2500HD PICKUP TRUCK. TIRE HAD 47,600 MILES ON IT, APPROXIMATELY 30,000 ON THE REAR. TIRE DID NOT BLOW OUT OR DEFLATE, AND WAS STILL INFLATED TO 80PSI WHEN REMOVED FROM THE TRUCK. TIRE REPLACED. OLD TIRE IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION.
I HAVE A GMC SIERRA 1550HD TRUCK. PURCHASED IN 2001. IT CURRENTLY HAS 62,000 MILES. IT CAME WITH FIRESTONE 245X75X16 TIRES. SINCE I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE BOTH REAR TIRES OF THE SAME DESCRIPTION HAS HAD FAILURES WITHIN MONTHS OF EACH OTHER. THE TIRES DEVELOPED LARGE HUMPS ON THE TREAD AREA WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SHUDDER DRASTICALLY AND BECOME UNSTABLE. THIS IS OF PARTICULAR CONCERN TO ME SINCE IN BOTH CASES I HAD MY FAMILY WITH ME WHICH INCLUDES A BABY AND A 10 YEAR OLD IN THE VEHICLE. WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT MY COMPLAINT AND IS THERE CONCERN FOR OTHER CONSUMERS WHO MAY BE RIDING ON THIS PARTICULAR TIRE AS WELL? *JB
