OUR 2002 GMC SIERRA WAS BEING INSPECTED FOR STATE INSPECTION WHEN IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE ROTORS HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. CONTACTED GMC AND THEY TOLD US THAT THEYKNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM, BUT THAT IT WOULD ONLY BE COVERED IF REOPRTED DURING WARRANTY PERIOD OUR WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AS THE VEHICLE HAD 36,800 MILES ON IT AND WARRANTY WASONLY FOR 36,000 MILES. ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE.*AK
VEHICLE HAS A STRONG JERK WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND AND SOMETIMES HAS A SLIPPING / DELAYED JERK WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP. VALVE BODY WAS REPLACED AT 30,000 MILES. DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE TAKEN BACK. DEALER REPLACED TRANSMISSION FLUID AND ADDED ADDITIVES. VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A POPPING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING AT 30,100 MILES. DEALER ADVISED THIS WAS NORMAL. VEHICLE WOULD NOT PULL IN REVERSE SOMETIMES AND WOULD ONLY SHIFT AT HIGH RPM AND NO OVERDRIVE AT 34,000 MILES. DEALER REBUILT TRANSMISSION AND REPLACED BROKEN SUN SHELL GEAR. VEHICLE STILL JERKING HARD / TRANSMISSION SLIPPING FROM 1ST TO 2ND. DEALER NOTIFIED. VEHICLE STILL UNDER WARRENTY. DEALER ADVISED THEY WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT GM FOR REPAIR SUGGUESTIONS. 3 MONTHS HAVE WENT BY AND DEALER WILL NOT SCHEDULE REPAIR OF TRANSMISSION. TRANSMISSION NOW HAS POPPING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING ALL GEARS AND MAKES VIBRATION AT 55MPH TO 65 MPH. TRANSMISSION STILL POPPING, JERKING, AND SLIPPING FROM 1ST TO 2ND.
2002 SIERRA REAR BRAKES RUSTED. FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM HAD TO HAVE THE ROTORS RESURFACED DUE TO RUST AND THE SPEED SENSORS WERE CORRODED, CALIPERS ALSO RUSTED. *TS *JB
THE GRAND AM SEEMS TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ITS ANTI THEFT DEVISE IF YOU GO TO EDMANS.COM YOU WILL SEE MANY COMPLAINTS TO THIS PROBLEM AS WELL AS MANY MORE. WE ARE ALL GETTING STRANDED AND SPENDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TRYING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. G.M. NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS AND DO A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BACK FRAME FAILED AT THE WELDED JOINTS. DRIVER WAS THROWN TO RIGHT AND BACK WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THIS COMPONENT ALSO SERVES AS THE SHOULDER/SEAT BELT ATTACHMENT.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONSUMER COLLIDED WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HIS. UPON IMPACT BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT FAILED TO RETRACT. THIS CAUSED THE DRIVER TO SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB. *AK
THIS COMPLAINT IS TO SUPPORT INVESTIGATION PE05020 1 - EVENTS LEADING TO FAILURE: MY TRUCK HAS BEEN DRIVEN IN NY STATE SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED IN LATE 2001. IT HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED AND SERVICED. 2 - FAILURE AND ITS CONSEQUENCES: AFTER 40,000 MILES, EVERY TIME I CAME TO A STOP THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WOULD KICK IN (UNDER 10 MPH IN COMPLETELY DRY CONDITIONS). THIS MADE THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP. I ALMOST BECAME INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON 3 OR 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS UNTIL I PULLED THE FUSE FOR THE ABS SYSTEM. PULLING THE FUSE DISABLES THE SYSTEM SO I'M NOW DRIVING WITHOUT ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. CERTAINLY BETTER THAN THE ALTERNATIVE. 3 - CORRECTIVE MEASURES AND AVAILABILITY OF PARTS I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE TO PATRICK GMC IN ROCHESTER, NY. PAID $85.73 TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. THEY INDICATED BOTH FRONT SPEED SENSORS WERE BAD AND BOTH HUB ASSEMBLIES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $432 PER SIDE PLUS TAX. THE SENSOR ITSELF IS NOT AVAILABLE - IT MUST BE PURCHASED WITH AN ENTIRE HUB ASSEMBLY. I DID NOT HAVE THE WORK DONE AND CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE ABS FUSE PULLED. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN ANY OTHER CONDITION (EXCEPT IF THE HUBS WERE REPLACED). THE DEFECTIVE PARTS ARE STILL ON MY TRUCK. *NM
REQUEST FOR WARRANT ON FUEL INJECTORS FOR LIFE OF VEHICLE. *BF THE CONSUMER DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT GMC ISSUED WAS FAIR. THE WARRANTY WAS ONLY FOR 7 YEARS OR 200,000 MILES WHICH EVER OCCURRED FIRST. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAS 8 INJECTORS AND WAS CONCERNED THEY MAY FAIL ONCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A BRAKE PROBLEM. THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR, AND IT FEELS MUSHY. IT TAKES AN ADDITIONAL 50 FEET TO STOP. OWNER IS AFRAID HE WON'T STOP IN TIME.*AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE BRAKES HAVE NEVER BEEN GOOD. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES FOR BRAKES. *TC
THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES ON A 2002 GMC SIERRA EXTENDED CAB PICKUP TURN ON (WHEN THEY NORMALLY SHOULD NOT - DRY STOPPING CONDITIONS) AT LOW SPEED STOPS <10 MPH. WHEN THEY CAME ON THEY WOULD MAKE STOPPING THE VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT. THE LAST TIME THE TRUCK COULD NOT BE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND WENT INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION, LUCKILY WITH OUT AN ACCIDENT. TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM OVER THE LAST SIX MONTHS I HAVE HAD THE FUSE FOR THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES REMOVED TO DISABLE THE ANTI LOCK FEATURE COMPLETLEY.
THE TAILGATE STRAPS ON MY 2002 GMC SEIRRA BOTH BROKE AT THE SAME TIME AND THE TAILGATE FELL DOWN TO THE BUMPER. MY LOCAL GM DEALER KNEW OF A PROBLEM BUT STATED THAT NO NEW ITEM HAD BEEN MADE TO CORRECT THE STRAP PROBLEM, SO THEY JUST PUT NEW STRAPS BACK ON MY TRUCK, JUST LIKE THE ONES THAT BROKE. *AK
MY 2002 GMC SIERRA HAS A BRAKING PROBLEM WHEN STOPPING FROM A SLOW SPEED. I TOOK MY CONCERN TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE REAR ROTORS WERE RUSTED AND MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE A WARRANTY ISSUE AS THE TRUCK HAS 32,000 MILES AND IS LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD, IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AS IT IS. THEY TELL ME IT IS BECAUSE I LIVE IN THE NORTHEAST AND IS NOT A DEFECT IN MATERIALS. IN 2002 AT A BRAKE SYMPOSIUM, SPONSERED BY THE MANUFACTURERS, IT WAS NOTED THAT GMC TOOK THE METAL CHROMIUM OUOF THE ROTOR ALLOY TO SAVE MONEY. CHROMIUM RESISTS RUST. IS THERE ANY HELP AVAILABLE?
DT: THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE HAD BRAKE PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON SEPT. 3, 2004. ALL 4 BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THE ROTORS BROKE ON REMOVAL DUE TO ALL THE CORROSION. NEW ROTORS WERE INSTALL BUT THEY HAVE CORRODED AGAIN. *NM CONSUMER HEARD CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL, DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN LUBED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING WHEEL AND CLUNKING WAS GONE. AFTER GETTING THE ROTORS AND BRAKES REPLACED ABOUT 2,026 MILES LATER THEY HAVE TO BE REPLACED AGAIN BECAUSE OF CORRODING.*SB
DT: THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT A BRAKE PROBLEM. REAR ROTORS RUSTED. DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR FOR THE REAR ROTORS. THE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLD HIM TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER, AND ALL THEY WOULD TELL HIM WAS THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE ROTORS AND REAR BRAKE PADS BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT TURN THEM OVER. *AK LEFT REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKED. THE SLIP YOKE AND REAR U-JOINT ON THE REAR DRIVESHAFT WERE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE CAUSING A CHATTERING FEELING WHEN THE WHEEL WAS TURNED. *NM
WHILE LOADING THE VEHICLE, THE TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES BROKE WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT THE OWNER WAS THROWN TO THE GROUND. THE OWNER SUSTAINED HAND INJURIES. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
WHILE DRIVING ON DRY SURFACES ABS SYSTEM ENGAGED, FRESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE PART WAS REPLACED TWICE. HOWEVER, PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK SECOND OCCURANCE RESULTED IN COLLISION 'GARAGE DOOR'; RETURN TRUE;" ONMOUSEOUT="WINDOW.STATUS=''; RETURN TRUE;">GARAGE DOOR</A>. ABS SENSER REPLACED A SECOND TIME. *TC
WHEN COMING TO A STOP DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT MOVED FORWARD. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE SEAT BRACKET. CONSUMER STATED THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THAT THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED.*AK
PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR REQUIRED BRAKES AND ROTORS TO BE REPLACED AT 32,000 MILES. SERVICE ORDER INDICATED "DELAMINATION" OF BRAKE ROTOR CAUSED THE WEAR. THIS IS CONTRARY TO THE "LONG LIFE" BRAKES THAT WERE INDICATED TO ME DURING THE SALE OF THIS VEHICLE. BOUGHT NEW.*AK
CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A TIRE ROTATION, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ROTORS WERE EATING UP THE BRAKE PADS. DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE BRAKING SYSTEM BY RESURFACING THE ROTORS AND PROVIDING NEW PADS. HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF THE STEEL BEING USED THE ROTORS WILL CONTINUE TO EAT UP THE PADS, AND THIS OPERATION WILL NEED TO BE RESOLVED EVERY 10,000 MILES. MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE CLIMATE WHERE CONSUMER LIVED WAS THE REASON WHY THE PROBLEM OCCURRED. *AK
DT:THE CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM AT LOW SPEEDS. THE DEALER TOLD HIM THAT THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO FOR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THAT THE HUBS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT THE CONSUMERS EXPENSE. HE HEARD THERE WILL BE A RECALL IN NOVEMBER, BUT THEY WERE ONLY GOING TO CLEAN THE SENSORS AND NOT REPLACE THE HUBS. HIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN PENNSYLVANIA. IN AUGUST OF 2004 THE FIRST HUB WAS REPLACED, AND IN NOVEMBER 2004 HE REPLACED THE SECOND HUB. ON OCTOBER 26, 2005 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND BOTH HUBS NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN.*AK UPDATED 11/29/05. *JB
VEHICLE HAS 19000 MILES ON IT AND THE BRAKE ROTORS ARE BADLY SCORED AND RUSTED, RESULTING IN A PULSATING BRAKE PEDAL AND THE REQUIREMENT OF GREATER BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM IS PRIMARILY WITH THE REAR BRAKES, BUT THE FRONT BRAKES ARE STARTING TO SHOW THE SAME SIGNS. A RECENT BRAKE INSPECTION INDICATES THAT THE BRAKE PADS ARE WELL WITHIN TOLERANCE FOR WEAR, BUT THE ROTORS WILL NOT PASS PENNSYLVANIA STATE SAFETY INSPECTION IN THEIR CURRENT CONDITION. I HAVE CONSULTED WITH AT LEAST FOUR OTHER INDIVIDUALS WITH SIMILAR VEHICLES THAT HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY WHILE IT WAS RAINING AT 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THE CONSUMER STOPPED AND THE CONSUMERS BRAKES FAILED AND HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. *AK (4/24/05) WHILE IN THE RAIN THE CONSUMER HAD COME OFF OF THE INTERSTATE GOING 20 MPH AND THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS REGULARLY SERVICED BY THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 4/28/05. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED FRONT AND REAR PADS, THE FRONT ROTORS NEED MACHINING, THE REAR ROTORS NEEDED REPLACING , AND FOUR WHEEL CALIPERS NEEDED TO BE SERVICED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PADS WERE 70% WORN. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKES HAVE PAD SQUEAKERS BUT THEY COULD NOT BE HEARD. THE CONSUMER HAD TAKEN THE REAR WHEEL OFF AND SAW THE REAR PAD WAS COMPLETELY METAL TO, AND REAR. THE CONSUMER MADE THE REPAIRS AS WELL SERVICED THE CALIPERS. *SC *JB
DT: WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE EXPERIENCED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE BUT NO NOISES. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR ANY OTHER PROBLEMS. TOOK CAR TO DEALER ,THEY STATED ROTORS WERE RUSTED AND WORN OUT, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO PROBLEMS SINCE. *AK
THERE IS RATTLE/VIBRATION IN MY TRUCK'S STEERING COLUMN. ANY TIME I GO OVER AN UNEVEN SURFACE I HEAR AN ANNOYING RATTLE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD IN FRONT THE STEERING WHEEL, AND I FEEL A CONSISTENT VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS RATTLE STARTED WITH ABOUT 35,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, JUST IN TIME FOR THE WARRANTY TO EXPIRE. MY TRUCK NOW HAS 60,000 MILES ON IT WITH THE SAME ANNOYING PROBLEM. MY DEALER KEEPS TELLING ME THERE IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE A RECALL ON IT, SO I DON'T WANT TO PAY TO REPAIR IT (WHATEVER MAY BE WRONG WITH IT). *NM
I OWN A 2002 GMC SIERRA 4 X 4 CREW CAB DURAMAX DIESEL PICK-UP TRUCK. FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS I'VE HAD A CONDITION THAT FELT LIKE A TIRE WAS OUT OF BALANCE. THIS WAS JUST AFTER I REPLACED ALL TIRES. THIS YEAR I REPLACED ALL THE TIRES AGAIN AND THE CONDITION STILL EXISTS. WE WENT THROUGH THE PROCESS OF ELIMINATION, CHANGING A WHEEL THAT WAS A LITTLE OUT OF ROUND, RE-BALANCING AND ROTATING THE NEW TIRES 4 DIFFERENT TIMES AND COULDN'T ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM. I THEN PUT THE VEHICLE UP ON A HOIST AND PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN GEAR TO CHECK FOR DRIVE LINE VIBRATIONS AND FOUND THAT THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT WAS BENT. AFTER TAKING THE TRUCK BACK TO MY DEALERSHIP AND CONFIRMING THE PROBLEM WITH THEM, A SEARCH WAS RUN OF ALL THE SALVAGE FACILITIES FOR A USED SHAFT AND FOUND THAT THERE WERE NONE AVAILABLE. FURTHERMORE, EVERY SALVAGE YARD THAT WAS CONTACTED CLAIMED THAT THIS DRIVE SHAFT, GM PART #15109384 WAS IN HIGH DEMAND AND AS SOON AS ONE CAME IN ON A WRECK, IT WAS IMMEDIATELY SOLD. THIS SHAFT IS INSTALLED ON 2000 TO 2007 MODELS. MY DEALERSHIP ALSO ADMITTED THAT MINE WAS NOT THE FIRST BENT DRIVE SHAFT THAT HAS COME INTO THEIR FACILITY. TO PURCHASE A NEW SHAFT IS ALMOST $900. A USED ONE IS MUCH LESS, IF YOU CAN FIND ONE. I WORKED WITH GM TRUCK IN QUALITY CONTROL FOR 31 YEARS AND IT IS MY EXPERIENCE THAT WHEN A USED PART CAN NOT BE PURCHASED THROUGH A SALVAGE YARD DUE TO HIGH REPLACEMENT DEMAND, THERE IS USUALLY A COVER UP GOING ON. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. BY THE WAY, MY SHAFT HAD NO VISIBLE EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE ANYPLACE. I BELIEVE THAT THE SHAFT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE TORQUE OF THE ENGINE AND WILL, IN TIME, BEND. MY TRUCK HAS 99,000 MILES ON IT NOW, BUT THE PROBLEM STARTED SOMETIME AROUND 60,000. *NM
2002 GMC SIERRA, CONCERNING ABS. AT LOW SPEEDS ( LESS THAN 5MPH) BRAKES RELEASE, WILL NOT HOLD..RECALL IN 2005, WAS FINE ,LASTED 2 YEARS, THEN SAME THING, VIRTUALLY NO BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS, DEALER SAID IT COULD BE $400 OR $500 TO FIX, I DON'T THINK SO. I ASKED HIM TO PULL THE FUSE, REFUSED, FOUND LOCATION OF FUSE AND YANKED IT AND THE TRUCKS BRAKES WORK FINE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND SHOULD BE FIXED PERMANENTLY BY GMC. *TR
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES FROM LOW SPEED BRAKE PEDAL PULSATED, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE . DEALER STATED THE ROTORS WERE RUSTED AND FLAKING. *AK
THE GAS GAUGE IS NOT DEPENDABLE. SOMETIMES ACCURATE, BUT MORE OFTEN, NOT ACCURATE. IT IS A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM. YOU MAY RUN OUT OF GAS AT ANY MOMENT, IN TRAFFIC, ON THE INTERSTATE AT HIGH SPEEDS, THEN YOU HAVE NO STEERING OR BRAKES, ENGINE IS DEAD. IT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES, ONCE WHEN IT SHOWED 3/4 TANK FULL. I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY REGULAR CAB PICKUP TRUCK THAT DOES THE SAME THING. I HAVE TALKED TO MANY OTHER OWNERS THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS DEFINITELY A FACTORY DEFECT. *TR
GENERAL MOTORS IS AWARE OF AN ISSUE WITH THE PARKING BRAKES IN SOME MODEL YEARS OF THEIR VEHICLES AND HAVE EVEN ISSUED A RECALL FOR THEM TO BE FIXED. THEY ONLY RECALLED VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS EVEN THOUGH VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS HAVE THE SAME BRAKE PARTS AND SUFFER FROM THE SAME ISSUE. THE PARKING BRAKES ENGAGE ON THEIR OWN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION WHICH CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE PADS AND DRUMS TO THE POINT WHERE THEY CEASE TO WORK. THIS IS AN UNSAFE CONDITION ESPECIALLY WHEN TOWING A VEHICLE AND HAVING TO PARK ON AN INCLINE. I HAVE CONTACTED THEM AND THEY JUST KEEP TELLING ME THAT MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE WAS NOT RECALLED. MY VEHICLE HAS THE SAME BRAKES AS THOSE THAT WERE RECALLED AND HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. RECENTLY TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR ROUTINE TIRE ROTATION AND ALIGNMENT AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY PARKING BRAKE WAS WORE OUT. I ONLY HAVE 55,000 MILES ON MY TRUCK AND I HAVE NEVER USED THE PARKING BRAKE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS COMMON WEAR BY THE DEALER AND GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE WILL NOT DO ANYTHING EITHER. IF IT HAS TO WORK TO PASS INSPECTION THEN IT SHOULD BE A SAFTEY ISSUE. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECH THAT IT IS VERY COMMON FOR THESES TRUCKS AND HE THINKS THE CABLE IS TOO SHORT AND THE BRAKE WEARS GOING DOWN THE ROAD. *AK

I HAVE A 2002 3/4 TON CREW CAB SIERRA WITH DURAMAX DIESEL AND ALLISON TRANSMISSION. THE TRUCK HAS 17000 MILES. OVER THE LAST TWO WEEKS, I HAVE HAD TWO SHOCK ABSORBERS FAIL CATASTROPHICALLY DUE TO A WELD AT THE BOTTOM ATTACHMENT POINT. IN THE FIRST CASE, THE SHOCK WAS LODGED IN THE BOTTOM A ARM ASSEMBLY. THIS CAUSED THE STEERING TO BEHAVE STRANGELY. UPON SERVICING THE OTHER SHOCK, A CRACK IN THE WELD WAS FOUND. MY DEALER SAYS THAT SHOCKS ARE A MAINTENANCE ITEM AND REFUSES DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS THE CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE IS ALSO NOT CONCERNED, THOUGH THEY FILED A CASE..1-204723707 *JB
DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE WORE OUT. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ROLL BACK/FORWARD ON A INCLINE WITHOUT WARNING. DEALERSHIP WAS NOT ABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK RETAINER ON EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED. *LA

MY 2002 GMC 2500HD TRUCK THIS PAST WEEKEND HAD A FAILURE IN THE TAILGATE CABLE SYSTEM. I WAS DRIVING MY ATV INTO THE BED WHEN THE LEFT CABLE BROKE AND THE TAILGATE SUDDENLY LOWERED A FEW INCHES. FORTUNATELY, THE RIGHT CABLE DIDN'T BREAK OR SERIOUS INJURY WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. AFTER LOOKING AT THE BROKEN CABLE, THERE WAS EVIDENCE OF RUST INSIDE THE PLASTIC COVERING ON THE WIRE STRANDS THAT MAKE UP THE CABLE. THERE IS NO WAY TO INSPECT THE CABLES FOR A POTENTIAL HAZARD PRIOR TO A CATASTROPHIC OCCURRENCE. I WILL BE REPLACING MINE WITH A STAINLESS STRAP SYSTEM SO THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN.*AK

FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT 265 75 R16 TREADBELT CAME COMPLETELY OFF WHILE DRIVING. TIES ONLY HAVE 31XXX ON THEM. TIRE HAVE BEEN ROTATED EVERY 5000 MILES AND INFALTED TO MANUFACTURES SPECS. I WILL TAKE PICTURES TONIGHT OF THE DAMAGE AND TIRE.*AK
WHEN OPENING THE TAILGATE TWO SUPPORT BRACKETS BROKE. AS A RESULT, THE TAILGATE FELL TO THE GROUND. *AK BOTH SUPPORTS WERE REPLACED. THERE WERE BROKEN CABLES. *SC
A FIRESTONE STEELTEX AT (245-75 R16 LR E) MOUNTED ON THE LR OF MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500HD FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON HIWAY 58 IN THE VICINITY OF TEHACHEPI CA AT APPROX 1630 HRS. THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE SIDEWALL/BODY OF THE TIRE EXPOSING STEELBELTS. THE TREAD WAS NOT RECOVERABLE. THE FAILED TIRE DID NOT EXPLODE OR DISINTEGRATE AND REMAINED INFLATED. THE TIRE HAD ACCUMULATED 32650 MILES SINCE NEW (OEM TIRE) WITHOUT INCIDENT. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE INFLATED TO 75PSI AT 0630 AM THAT MORNING IN VACAVILLE CA, AND CHECKED IN BAKERFIELD DURING A FUEL STOP. ALL TIRES WERE WITHIN 1 LB OF ANOTHER AND REGISTERED 84 PSI (WARM INFLATION PRESSURE). CONTACT WITH FIRESTONE INDICATED THAT THE TIRE SHOULD BE INSPECTED BY FIRESTONE ENGINEERS TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE TIRE WAS SHIPPED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THEIR INSTRUCTIONS. FIRESTONE ENGINEERS CONCLUDED THAT THE TIRE WAS "OPERATED FOR A PERIOD OF TIME AT A PRESSURE INSUFFICIENT FOR THE LOAD BEING CARRIED". THE LOAD ON THE TIRE WAS ESTIMATED NOT TO EXCEED 2500 LBS. THE FAILED TIRE RETAINED NEARLY 70 PSI WHEN CHECKED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FAILURE DESPITE A SMALL LEAK FROM THE SEPARATION. THE TIRE WAS NOT DAMAGED BY ROAD HAZARDS OR OTHERWISE SUBJECTED TO NEGLECT. ALL TIRES WERE ROUTINELY ROTATED AT 7500 MILES INTERVALS AND MOST RECENTLY ROTATED AT 30000 MILES. FIRESTONE HAS BEEN ASKED TO PROVIDE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THEIR ASSERTION THAT THE TIRE WAS NOT DEFECTIVE BUT HAS FAILED TO DO SO. I HAVE RETAINED ALL FOUR TIRES AND WILL PROVIDE THEM FOR INDEPENDENT INSPECTION. I HAVE MADE ONE FINAL REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REGARDING THE METHOD OF INSPECTION AND THE DOCUMENTATION OF THOSE RESULTS. I HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROMFIRESTONE AS OF 26 FEB 04. THE DEALERSHIP ON RECORD AS SELLING THE VEHICLE/TIRES INSISTED WITHOUT HESITATION THE TIRE FAILED DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *AK
THE ALLISON 1000 WITH THE DURAMAX DIESEL,DURING THE COLD WEATHER THE TRANSMISSION WILL SLIP FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. THIS WILL ONLY HAPPEN WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS COLD. I SPOKE TO MY TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY SAID THE SOLUTION TO THIS IS TO FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION AND REFILL WITH A PURE SYNTHETIC TRANSMISSION FLUID FOR A COST OF ABOUT $ 400.00. SHOULD THERE BE A RECALL ABOUT THIS OR A SERVICE BULLITEN. *AK
AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN VEHICLE WENT OFF ROAD AND RASHED; ON-STAR DID NOT FUNCTION EITHER MANUALLY OR UPON IMPACT.*AK
I STARTED THE VEHICLE AFTER VEHICLE WAS SITTING FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS. WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE STARTED ACCELERATING, EVEN THOUGH I HAD NOT YET PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR. EVEN WITH MY FOOT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AS HARD AS I COULD, THE VEHICLE STOPPED BRIEFLY, BUT THEN THE REAR TIRES BRIEFLY SPUN AND THE VEHICLE STARTED MOVING IN REVERSE AGAIN, DRAGGING THE LOCKED FRONT TIRES. AFTER 25 FEET, VEHICLE HIT PARKED VEHICLE ON OTHER SIDE OF STREET. VEHICLE STOPPED, BUT REAR WHEELS CONTINUED TO SPIN UNTIL I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. IT SEEMED LIKE THROTTLE WAS STUCK OPEN, EVEN THOUGH I HAD NOT ONCE HIT THE ACCELERATOR.*AK
ON DEC 8, 2003 I WAS DRIVING AT APPROX. 45 MILES PER HOUR WHEN MY TRANSMISSION SHIFTED OUT OF GEAR AND THEN AFTER A FEW SECOUNDS IT SHIFTED INTO LOW GEAR, ALL ON ITS OWN. THERE WAS A CAR TRAVELING BEHIND THAT ALMOST HIT ME FROM BEHIND. I PULLED OVER AND PUT MY TRUCK IN PARK. I LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK TO SEE IF ANY THING HAD COME APART. I DID NOT SEE ANY FLUID LEAK OR ANY LOOSE PARTS. I DROVE MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP IN LOW GEAR. THEY TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR REPAIRS (38,127 MILES). I WAS 2,127 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPAIRED AND IT COST $1,057.19. TODAY 3/30/05 ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK THE TRANSMISSION DOES THE SAME THING. I ONLY HAVE LOW GEAR AND NO REVERSE. THIS TIME I WAS LUCKY THAT NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME WHEN IT HAPPENED. *AK
I BROUGHT MY TRUCK TO MY DEALER BECAUSE THE PARKING BRAKE WOULD NOT HOLD. I HAD 30,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK AND HAD OWNED IT FOR 25 MONTHS. THE DEALER GAVE ME A RECEIPT SHOWING THEY HAD ADJUSTED THE BRAKE AND REPLACED THE CALIPERS & ROTORS. 12 MONTHS LATER I TESTED THE PARKING BRAKE AND IT WOULD NOT HOLD. I CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY MADE A MISTAKE ON MY RECEIPT - THEY NEVER REPLACED ANY PARTS, THEY ONLY CLEANED THE PARKING BRAKE. I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN IN PLACE (02-05-26-001) WHEN I ORIGINALLY BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT REPAIR MY TRUCK ACCORDING TO THE TSB. THERE IS ALSO AN OPEN NHTSA INVESTIGATION (EA04011) ON THIS MATTER. I THINK THE DEALER SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM AT THEIR COST. *AK
LOW SPEED APPLICATION OF BRAKES ON MIXED TRACTION SURFACE ( BARE ROAD ON LEFT SIDE ICE AND SNOW ON RIGHT SIDE). LEAD TO UNWANTED ACTIVATION OF ANTI-LOCKS. RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF TRUCK AND SUBSEQUENT CRASH WITH PERSONAL INJURY AND SUBSTANTIAL PROPERTY DAMAGE. POLICE WERE NOTIFIED BUT NO REPORT BECAUSE IT WAS IN A SUBDIVISION. *JB
FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM: INJECTOR FAILED WHILE ACCELERATING. THE GAS PEDAL WENT DOWN TO FLOOR. DRIVER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER FOR ANALYSIS. MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR NEEDED CLEANING. *AK
