WHILE DRIVING DOWN A VERY BUSY STREET, THE ENGINE DIED. I LOST ALL MY POWER STEERING AND BRAKE. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. I HAD IT TOWED TO HEDRICK'S CHEVROLET IN CLOVIS CA. IT TOOK 2 DAYS FOR THEM TO CHECK IT OUT. THEY SAID WHEN THEY WENT TO BRING IT IN TO THE SHOP IT STARTED UP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I PICKED THE TRUCK UP AND THE NEXT DAY IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME TO PRESS THE PUMP ON THE TOP OF THE FILTER HOUSING UNTIL I COULD NO LONGER PRESS IT. I DID THAT AND IT STARTED UP. BE CAME VERY OBVIOUS THAT THEY WERE AWARE THAT THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING WAS CAUSING THE INJECTION SYSTEM TO LOSE SUCTION I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THIS FAILURE IS A COMMON FAILURE. EVIDENTLY THERE IS AN O RING IN THE HOUSING AND IT FAILS AND BASED ON FACT THAT THEIR SERVICE PERSON WAS ABLE TO TELL ME HOW TO START THE TRUCK, THEY NEW OF THESE FAILURES AND NEVER TOLD OWNERS ABOUT THIS. ...UPDATED 09/22/15 *BF UPDATED 12/9/2015 *JS
SMELLS GASOLINE EVERY TIME FILLED UP TANK. LOOKED FROM UNDER THE TRUCK AND SAW THE FUEL FILLER NECK IS RUSTED WITH A BIG CRACK THAT ALLOW GAS VAPOR TO ESCAPE. LOOKED ONLINE AND SAW THAT 2003 GMC VANS HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. *TR
NOTICED SOMETHING LEAKING UNDER TRUCK IN FRONT OF FUEL TANK. FUEL LINE LEAKING AT CONNECTIONS ABOVE FUEL COOLER (LINES LOOK GOOD BUT ALL CONNECTIONS ARE BADLY RUSTED) DEALER WANTS $1,700.00 TO REPAIR, SAYS THERE IS NO RECALL. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET TRUCK WITH A 4.3 LITER V6 ENGINE AND A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 HD WITH A 6.0 LITER V8 ENGINE AND BOTH OF THEM HAVE FUEL GAUGE PROBLEMS. THE FUEL GAUGE IS VERY ERRATIC AND HARDLY EVER ACCURATE. I WAS GOING ABOUT 70 MPH AND SHOWED 1/2 TANK OF GAS AND ALL OF A SUDDEN RAN OUT OF GAS IN THE 2002 MODEL. THE 2001 MODEL IS NEVER ACCURATE. I HAVE TO CARRY SPARE GAS WITH ME EVERYWHERE. ON THE INTERNET, THERE ARE THOUSAND AND THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEMS IN NUMEROUS CHAT LOGS. GM SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS MAJOR DEFECT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC 2500 HD DIESEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN UNKNOWN INTERNAL FUEL LEAK THAT WOULD OVERFLOW INTO THE CRANK CASE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 3500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SMOKE AND LOSE POWER ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE FUEL FILTER WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WERE THREE DEFECTIVE FUEL INJECTORS THAT WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06E043000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) YET THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,828.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS FUEL INJECTORS HAVE FAILED. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE INJECTORS WERE BAD AND FIVE OUT OF EIGHT ARE LEAKING FUEL WHICH HAVE A HIGH RETURN FUEL RATE. THERE ARE NO RELATED RECALLS OR WARRANTIES. THE CONTACT WAS DENIED THE WARRANTY COVERAGE THAT IS 7 YEARS 200,000 MILES FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,386.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT NOTICED FUEL LEAKAGE ON THE REAR BUMPER OF HIS VEHICLE. FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE INCREASED THE RISK FOR A FIRE HAZARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY IN WHICH A MECHANIC CONCLUDED THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 81000.
I HAVE 2 OF THESE VEHICLES AND KNOW A FEW FRIENDS WITH THE SAME. THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL GAUGE IN THESE VEHICLES ARE FACTORY DEFECTIVE. THEY ARE VERY, VERY INACCURATE IN TELLING YOU HOW MUCH FUEL YOU HAVE. I HAVE RUN OUT OF FUEL MANY, MANY TIMES WITH 1/2 TANK, 3/4 TANK FULL OF FUEL. THIS IS VERY VERY DANGEROUS SINCE YOU HAVE NO WARNING AND LOSE ALL STEERING AND BRAKES WITH NO ENGINE POWER. A LOT OF MY FRIENDS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH VERY SIMILAR MAKES AND MODELS. *TR
REQUEST FOR WARRANT ON FUEL INJECTORS FOR LIFE OF VEHICLE. *BF THE CONSUMER DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT GMC ISSUED WAS FAIR. THE WARRANTY WAS ONLY FOR 7 YEARS OR 200,000 MILES WHICH EVER OCCURRED FIRST. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAS 8 INJECTORS AND WAS CONCERNED THEY MAY FAIL ONCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE GAS GAUGE IS NOT DEPENDABLE. SOMETIMES ACCURATE, BUT MORE OFTEN, NOT ACCURATE. IT IS A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM. YOU MAY RUN OUT OF GAS AT ANY MOMENT, IN TRAFFIC, ON THE INTERSTATE AT HIGH SPEEDS, THEN YOU HAVE NO STEERING OR BRAKES, ENGINE IS DEAD. IT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES, ONCE WHEN IT SHOWED 3/4 TANK FULL. I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY REGULAR CAB PICKUP TRUCK THAT DOES THE SAME THING. I HAVE TALKED TO MANY OTHER OWNERS THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS DEFINITELY A FACTORY DEFECT. *TR
