161131 MILES FRAME RUSTED REAL BAD BODY LOOKS GREAT FOR THE YEAR I JUST BOUGHT THE TRUCK LOOKED REAL CLEAN INSIDE AND OUT FROM ORIGANAL OWNER PUT IT ON A LIFT AND THE FRAME IS SO RUSTED OUT DID SOME GOOGLEING AND FOUND THAT MOST ALL THESE TRUCKS WERE BUILT TO ROT OUT IN 3 YEARS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND WOBBLED SO VIOLENTLY THAT IT LEFT THE CONTACT DISORIENTED. THE CONTACT HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO PULL OVER FOR A WHILE. WHEN THE CONTACT RETUNED TO THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SHAKE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED BETWEEN THE SPEEDS OF 30-45 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INSTALLED NEW BEARINGS, WHICH MADE THE FAILURE WORSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO OTHER MECHANICS, BUT EACH REPAIR FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 177,000.
THE TUBULAR FRAME THAT SUPPORTS BOTH THE GAS TANK AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE SHOCK ABSORBER EXTREMELY RUSTS OUT CAUSING THE FRAME TO EVENTUALLY DISCONNECT FROM ITSELF AND ALLOW THE GAS TANK TO DROP AND/OR THE SHOCK TO DISCONNECT FROM THE AXLE, BOTH IN WHICH MAY CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT.
BROKEN WELD HOLDING RIGHT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER TO REAR AXLE. GM IS DENYING THAT THIS WELD WAS DEFECTIVE. THIS RIGHT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER BROKE LOOSE FROM THE REAR AXLE WHILE DRIVING ON HWY 101.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ABS WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR INSPECTION AND THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07E106000 (WHEELS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 169,000.
THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED SO BADLY IT WILL NOT PASS IT'S NEXT VA STATE INSPECTION. THIS TRUCK HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN 74000 MILES. CAN THIS BE NORMAL? I AM A DISABLED VET WITH LIMITED INCOME AND CAN NOT AFFORD THE COST OF REPLACEMENT. THERE IS ALSO MORE THAN NORMAL RUST OF THE SUSPENSION AND OTHER PARTS UNDER THE BODY. I BELIEVE THIS HAS GONE ON TOO LONG AND A RECALL IS NECESSARY. *TR
SLOWING DOWN TO A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. TRIED TO PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TO GET MORE PRESSURE BUT DID NOT WORK. DROVE OFF ONTO SHOULDER AND GOT IT SLOWED DOWN . DRIVE VERY SLOW WITH HAZARD LIGHTS ON TO GET IT BACK TO MY HOUSE. I WAS ONLY ABOUT A MILE AWAY. GOT HOME AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH TO FIND BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER LEFT REAR WHEELS, FUEL TANK, LEFT REAR SHOCK AND DRIVE AXLE. CONTINUED TO LOOK AT ALL BRAKE LINES AND ALL OF THEM WERE CORRODED BAD. GETTING PRICES ON HAVING ALL BRAKE LINES REPLACED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME, SOMEONE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I MANAGED TO AVOID A COLLISION AND MADE IT HOME AS THIS HAPPENED LUCKILY AROUND THE CORNER FROM MY HOUSE. I LOOKED FOR THE PROBLEM, IT DIDN'T TAKE LONG AS UNDER THE HOOD THE FRAME WAS COVERED WITH BRAKE FLUID. I WAS AMAZED TO FIND THAT ONE OF THE METAL BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND THE OTHERS DON'T LOOK TO BE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WILL BE REPLACING ALL THE BRAKE LINES WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES (A COST OF $350.00). I CAN'T IMAGINE WHY STAINLESS STEEL LINES ARE NOT ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. RUST SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE NOT ONLY THE BRAKE LINES BUT ALSO PARTS OF THE SUSPENSION.
THIS IS AN OLD INCIDENT; HOWEVER, UNTIL JUST RECENTLY, I DID NOT REALIZE THERE WAS A WEBSITE SUCH AS YOURS. ALSO, I AM REPORTING A SPECIFIC INCIDENT, BUT ALSO WANT TO INCLUDE OTHER GENERAL INFORMATION. THE INCIDENT WHICH OCCURRED WAS RELATED TO MY BRAKE FLUID LINES RUSTING COMPLETELY THROUGH WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH MY TWO SMALL GRANDCHILDREN. WHEN A VEHICLE STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME, I PUSHED ON MY BRAKES ONLY TO FIND I COULD NOT STOP. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS A FIELD ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND I DROVE INTO IT, RATHER THAN HITTING THE VEHICLE. WHEN MY HUSBAND CHECKED THE BRAKES, THE LINES LITERALLY FELL APART. WE STILL HAVE THIS TRUCK, BUT THE ENTIRE UNDERSIDE OF IT (FRAME, SPRING HANGERS, FRONT DRIVE SHAFT, ETC) ARE ALL RUSTED. ANOTHER ISSUE THAT HAPPENED EARLIER THIS SUMMER - THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER HAD BECOME SO RUSTED, MY SPARE TIRE ACTUALLY CAME LOSE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. FORTUNATELY IT WAS HELD UP BY A CHAIN. UPON LEARNING THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MOST ALL GM TRUCKS, I FELT OBLIGATED TO BASE MY COMPLAINT IN THE HOPES THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE. TOYOTA FACED SIMILAR PROBLEMS, BUT FORTUNATELY STOOD BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS AND MADE IT RIGHT WITH THEIR CUSTOMERS AND I FEEL GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO DO LIKEWISE. WE HAVE TRIED TO TRADE THIS TRUCK IN FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE, BUT ARE BEING OFFERED WAY BELOW KELLY BLUE BOOK PRICE BECAUSE OF THE RUST ISSUE. *TR
TRUCK BEGAN TO GRIND AND POP AS I WENT AROUND CORNERS. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND BOTH OF THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WENT BAD WITHIN FIRST 70,000 MILES. GM WOULD NOT BACK THE VEHICLE. PARTS ALONE COST OVER $400 TO FIX THE VEHICLE. *JB
FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS DEGRADED TO THE POINT THAT ENTIRE WHEEL WAS LOOSE FROM HUB. WHEN ON A JACK COULD MOVE THE WHEEL SEVERAL INCHES IN OR OUT OF WHEEL HOUSING WITH MINIMAL HAND PRESSURE. REPAIR AGENCY INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A DISTINCT POSSIBILITY THAT, IF UNDETECTED, THIS CONDITION COULD HAVE CREATED A SITUATION LEADING TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT (AFFECT TO STEERING/CONTROL). THE SECOND FRONT WHEEL BEARING EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECT APPROXIMATELY 8 MONTHS LATER, EVEN AFTER BEING INSPECTED AT THE TIME OF THE OTHER FAILURE. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 EXTENDED CAB PICKUP WITH 52000 MILES ON IT. THE FRONT HUB BEARINGS ARE ALREADY REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. ON CONSULTING WITH THE LOCAL GARAGE, I DISCOVERED THIS WAS NOT AN ANOMALY, BUT , RATHER, A COMMON OCCURRENCE. MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OVER THE YEARS WITH GM PRODUCTS IS THAT FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS COULD BE PACKED OR REPLACED AT REASONABLE COST, AND THE PARTS PROVIDED AUDIBLE NOTICE OF FAILURE. THE CURRENT DESIGN DOES NOT PROVIDE THIS SAFETY FEATURE. THE ENTIRE HUB MUST BE REPLACED WHEN IT FAILS. AT A COST JUST QUOTED OF JUST BELOW $450 PER WHEEL. THE UNFORTUNATE FACT IS THAT IT IS UNKNOWN HOW MANY OWNERS OF GM PRODUCTS FROM 1998 ONWARD ARE DRIVING WITH WHEEL HUBS THAT ARE SO WORN THAT A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE COULD CAUSE LOSS OF A WHEEL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.. UNTIL THE RESOLUTION OF THIS DESIGN SHORTFALL, HIGHWAY DRIVING IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *NM
ON 01 NOV, I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT WHEN MY BRAKES TOTALLY FAILED CAUSING ME TO CRASH INTO A PARKED CAR. I WAS ENTERING THE PARKING SPOT BELOW 5 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. I DROPPED MY TRUCK OFF AT A REPAIR CENTER ON 03 NOV AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT BOTH THE LEFT FRONT HUB BEARING WAS SHOT AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES SENSOR WAS SHOT. BOTH ITEMS WERE REPLACED.*JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATES THE ABS SYSTEM IS BAD. IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT ON 8-20-05 BECAUSE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS NO BRAKING POWER. HAD TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE CONTACT WAS GOING VERY SLOWLY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THIS WAS THE FIRST INCIDENT OF THIS KIND. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THEY REPLACED THE WHEEL BEARINGS, THE HUB, THE ROTORS, AND A CABLE THAT WAS ATTACHED TO THE WHEEL BEARING ON 8-22-05. IT SEEMS TO BE FIXED AS OF NOW. *AK *JB

IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY. AFTER MANY PHONE CALLS AND LETTER THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A CHECK FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE CHECK COVERED THE PART NOT THE LABOR. THE CONSUMER WANTS TO KNOW WHY THIS PART WAS RECALLED IN CANADA BUT NOT IN THE US. *NM
I HAVE A 2002 3/4 TON CREW CAB SIERRA WITH DURAMAX DIESEL AND ALLISON TRANSMISSION. THE TRUCK HAS 17000 MILES. OVER THE LAST TWO WEEKS, I HAVE HAD TWO SHOCK ABSORBERS FAIL CATASTROPHICALLY DUE TO A WELD AT THE BOTTOM ATTACHMENT POINT. IN THE FIRST CASE, THE SHOCK WAS LODGED IN THE BOTTOM A ARM ASSEMBLY. THIS CAUSED THE STEERING TO BEHAVE STRANGELY. UPON SERVICING THE OTHER SHOCK, A CRACK IN THE WELD WAS FOUND.
