DROVE FROM MY HOME TO COWORKERS (20MINS) LEFT TRUCK IN COWORKERS DRIVEWAY ,AND WENT TO WORK. ONE HOUR LATER COWORKER REC'D CALL FROM NEXT DOOR THAT MY TRUCK WAS ON FIRE.
ON 2/1/2015, AT APPROXIMATELY 11:30 AM, I WAS STOPPING AT MY BROTHERS MAILBOX TO GET HIS MAIL WHILE HE WAS ON VACATION. WHEN I WENT TO STOP AT HIS MAILBOX, THE BRAKE PEDAL ON MY TRUCK WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE ON THE PEDAL. I PUMPED THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES, PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND IT CAME TO A GRADUAL STOP OVER AN EXTENDED BRAKING DISTANCE OF 20 TO 30 FEET (WHICH IS SLIGHTLY UPHILL). THERE WERE NO LIGHTS LIT ON THE DASH AND THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS BETWEEN THE MAXIMUM AND MINIMUM LEVELS ON THE RESERVOIR, WHEN I EXAMINED IT AFTER THE OCCURRENCE. WE LIVE ON A DIRT ROAD WITHOUT MUCH TRAFFIC, SO I PLACED THE TRUCK IN LOW RANGE 4WD AND DROVE IT THE 1/2 MILE HOME. UPON RETURNING HOME THE TOP BRAKE LINE WHICH RUNS ALONG THE FRAME FROM THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE BLOCK BACK TOWARDS THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR OF THE TRUCK HAD RUPTURED. THE BRAKE FLUID IN THE MASTER NEVER WENT BELOW THE MINIMUM LEVEL, SO I ATTEMPTED TO REFILL IT TO SEE IF I COULD GET ANY BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE BACK. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR STILL AFTER MULTIPLE TRIES WITH A FULL MASTER CYLINDER. THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED WHERE IT IS ATTACHED AT A GREEN PLASTIC FACTORY HANGER. THE BRAKE LINE WAS CORRODED/RUSTED WHERE IT HAD FAILED. IF I WOULD NOT HAVE STOPPED AT MY BROTHERS MAILBOX, IT IS 1 MILE DOWN HILL ON AN APPROXIMATE 12 DEGREE GRADE TO THE MAIN ROAD. THE INTERSECTION AT THE BOTTOM OF THE ROAD IS A 90 DEGREE, T INTERSECTION IN A CREEK BOTTOM, WHERE I AM SUPPOSED TO STOP PRIOR TO ENTERING THE MAIN ROAD. WE HAD JUST CAME HOME ON 1/31/2015 FROM A 8.0 HOUR ROUND TRIP TO SEE MY SON AT COLLEGE THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS OF MARYLAND AND WEST VIRGINIA ON I-68 AND HAD DRIVEN VARIOUS MAJOR BUSY HIGHWAYS INCLUDING I-79, I-68 AND I-81. DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF FUEL WHICH WE WOULD HAVE USED, WE DECIDED TO TAKE MY OTHER SON'S WRANGLER ON THE TRIP OR I MAY HAVE BEEN SENDING THIS EMAIL FROM THE HOSPITAL IF WE WERE LUCKY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON MY WAY HOME FROM A RESTAURANT, JUST ABOUT 4 BLOCKS FROM MY HOME I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND ANTI LOCK BRAKES WAS ACTING UP AND I PRESSED A LITTLE HARD TO STOP BEFORE A STOP LIGHT AND THE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO DRIVE VERY SLOW TO GET MY TRUCK TO MY HOME AS I HAVE NO BRAKES. BY THE TIME I PARKED MY PARKING SPOT I GOT OUT AND OPENED MY HOOD TO LOOK AT THE BRAKE DRUM DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING AND PROCEEDED TO LOOK UNDERNEATH MY TRUCK AND FOUND A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID JUST UNDER DRIVERS SIDE BOTTOM. I WAS AMAZED TO SEE THAT AND IT LOOKED SO RUSTED, COULDN'T PINPOINT WHERE THE LEAK IS COMING FROM ON THE LINES IT WAS ALL SOAKED WITH THE FLUID. RIGHT NOW I FEEL THAT THE GM CORPORATION SHOULD REPLACE ALL THE LINES AT A NO COST TO ME. THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE PUT AN INFERIOR PRODUCT ON THE TRUCK AND IT IS DANGEROUS THEY CAN HAVE SOMEONE KILLED IF THE BRAKES FAIL ON A HIGHER SPEED !!! THEY TRICKED THE CUSTOMER INTO BUYING A QUALITY MADE TRUCKS AND ITS NOT! IT IS MADE OF CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP QUALITY PARTS THAT I SPEND ON WITH MY MONEY WHEN I BROUGHT THE SIERRA 1500 NEW FROM A GM DEALER IN JULY 2004 MILEAGE AT THE TIME HAPPENED AROUND 118385. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THE FUEL RESTRICTION WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT, AND AS I HIT MY BRAKES, THERE WERE NO BRAKES. I LIMPED HOME, USING THE E-BRAKE AND TRANSMISSION TO KEEP THE TRUCK UNDER CONTROL. UPON INSPECTION I FOUND THE FRONT BRAKE LINE RUSTED AND LEAKING. *TR
AFTER HAVING A GM DEALER PERFORM OIL CHANGE, PERHAPS 1/4 MILE DOWN THE STREET FROM THEIR FACILITY ENCOUNTERED TRAFFIC STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION IN FRONT OF ME. APPLIED THE BRAKES TO FIND THAT THEY FELT MUSHY, AND BEFORE COMPLETELY STOPPING WENT TO THE FLOOR. I USED THE PARKING BRAKE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP WITHOUT CRASHING INTO THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I NURSED THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING LOT USING THE PARKING BRAKE AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND COULD FIND NO ISSUE, THE WEATHER WAS VERY WET AND SLOPPY, AND LIGHT SNOW SO I COULD NOT SEE THE TELL TALE FLUID LEAKAGE FROM A BRAKE LINE. BECAUSE I HAD LOST ALL BRAKING I ASSUMED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD FAILED. I HAD CHANGED ALL CALIPERS, ROTORS AND PADS SEVERAL MONTHS BEFORE, AND AT 140,000 THOUGHT THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILING WOULD BE UNUSUAL, BUT THE ONLY THING THAT WOULD CAUSE COMPLETE FAILURE. AFTER REPLACING THE MASTER I ATTEMPTED TO BLEED THE SYSTEM ONLY TO FIND THAT THE PROBLEM REMAINED. NOW THAT THE UNDER HOOD AREA WAS COMPLETELY DRY IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE FAILURE WAS RUST THROUGH AT A POINT THE LINE TO THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WAS IN CONTACT WITH THE FRAME RAIL BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE OIL CHANGE HAD PROBABLY CAUSED MOVEMENT OF THE LINE RESULTING IN THE FAILURE. MOVING SOME OF THE OTHER LINES MADE IT APPARENT THAT ALL OF THE HARD LINES WERE SHOT. THE SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT CAUSED THEM TO FRACTURE. WORSE THAN THAT, THEY WERE ALL ENCASED IN A "SHELL" OF RUST FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER, CONCEALING HOW FRAGILE AND DANGEROUS THEY REALLY WERE. REPAIR ESTIMATES WERE ANYWHERE FROM $800 (LOCAL MECHANICS) TO $3,400 (GM DEALER). LOVELY. I HAD A 1994 S10 BLAZER THAT I SOLD A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO WITH 290,000 MILES ON IT, ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES AND ALL. CHANGED THE LINES MYSELF IN A WEEKEND FOR $120.00, THE GM PARTS GUY NEW EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED AND HAD THE "KIT" IN STOCK, WHAT A SURPRISE. *TR
ON DECEMBER 28, 2014 I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 GMC PICK-UP TRUCK AND SUFFERED TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKES. THIS HAPPENED AS I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AND I NARROWLY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE BRAKE FAILURE - NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ON, AND NO GRADUAL DECREASE IN BRAKING ABILITY. AFTER THE FAILURE, I DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A SUDDEN AND MASSIVE LEAK OF BRAKE FLUID FROM A RUSTED BRAKE LINE. PREVIOUSLY, IN APRIL OF 2014 I HAD MY PICK-UP TRUCK SERVICED AT AN AUTHORIZED GMC SERVICE CENTER. AT THAT TIME, THE SERVICE TICKET REFERENCED CONDITION OF BRAKES TO BE IN YELLOW REQUIRING FUTURE ATTENTION. IT WAS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE ISSUE AT THAT TIME WAS BRAKE ROTORS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THE NEXT SERVICE INTERVAL. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF ANY POTENTIAL DANGER FROM BRAKE LINE RUSTING/FAILURE. UPON RESEARCHING VEHICLE ISSUES ON THE WEB I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE AN INORDINATE NUMBER OF BRAKE LINE FAILURES FOR VEHICLES OF MY TYPE. IT APPEARS GMC HAS REFUSED TO ISSUE A RECALL. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE GMC DEALER AND HAD THEM REPLACE RUSTING BRAKE LINES ($801.64). THE REPLACEMENT GMC BRAKE LINES INSTALLED ARE OF A DIFFERENT (IMPROVED) DESIGN - THEY HAVE A PAINTED/PROTECTIVE COATING ON THEM, WHICH APPEARS TO BE AN ATTEMPT TO ADDRESS PAST PREMATURE BRAKE LINE FAILURE ISSUES.
DRIVING ON WEST STONE DRIVE KINGSPORT, TN, A VEHICLE CUT ME OFF TRYING TO GET THRU A TRAFFIC LIGHT, I LOCKED MY BRAKES DOWN HARD AS I COULD, I COULD FEEL THE ABS SYSTEM WORKING, I WAS ABLE TO STOP ABOUT 12 INCHES FROM THE OTHER VEHICLE. WHEN I PULLED OUT AFTER THE LIGHT CHANGED TO GREEN, I WAS TRAVELING DOWN A SLIGHT GRADE, DEPRESSING MY BRAKE PEDAL LIGHTLY, THE PEDAL WENT ALL WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD.. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL SHOP TO HAVE IT CHECKED, ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES BEHIND LEFT FRONT WHEEL HAD RUPTURED. WHEN THE MECHANIC STARTED THE REPAIRS, HE CALLED SAID ALL LINES ON THIS TRUCK WERE EXTREMELY RUSTY, (HE ASKED WHAT I WANTED TO DO) I SAID FIX IT RIGHT. IN MAKING THE REPAIRS ALL LINES WERE REPLACED.. I HAVE PICTURES OF ALL LINES THAT CAN BE SENT. I ALSO HAVE ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES THAT CAN BE LOOKED AT AND OR ANALYZED. *TR
STARTED OUT WHEN BRAKE FLUID STARTED LEAKING FROM THE TRUCK. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY DID NOT HAPPEN WHEN WAS DRIVING. FOUND OUT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND WAS LEAKING AND THE REPAIR COST WOULD BE OVER $1200. LOOKING ON THE INTERNET THIS LOOKS TO BE A KNOWN FOR CERTAIN GMC/CHEVY YEAR TRUCKS. *TR
BRAKE FOR RR CROSSING, PEDDLE WENT TO FLOOR. TOWED TO GARAGE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE FUEL GAUGE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,892.

THIS SELDOM USED, WELL MAINTAINED, GARAGED TRUCK, BLEW OUT THE BRAKE LINES ON LEFT SIDE ON THE FRAME, UNDER THE DOOR, RESULTING IN TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. I HAD TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I WAS ON MY WAY TO PICK UP A #9000 BOAT. IF I HAD THAT BOAT BEHIND THE TRUCK, IT COULD HAVE KILLED ME, OR OTHERS ON THE ROAD. BRAKE LINES ARE NOT A NORMAL SERVICE PART. REPLACING ALL THE BRAKE LINES IS COSTING ME 1300, AT A MINIMUM. MY NEIGHBOR NEXT DOOR HAS A SIMILAR 2004 GMC SIERRA, WITH ABOUT THE SAME MILEAGE, ONLY HIS IS A 1/2 TON, WHERE MINE IS 3/4 TON. HIS TRUCK HAD THE SAME FAILURE THE WEEK BEFORE, IN THE EXACT SAME LOCATION ON THE LINES. DO A SIMPLE SEARCH LOOKING FOR BRAKE FAILURES ON THESE VEHICLES, AND YOU FIND THAT ITS WELL DOCUMENTED. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL BEFORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED. THERE IS NO WAY THAT I SHOULD BE LOOKING AT BRAKE LINE FAILURE ON A 10 YEAR OLD GARAGED TRUCK THAT HAS A TOW CAPACITY OF OVER 10,000 #'S. HOW SHOULD SOMEONE DETECT THE INTEGRITY OF THE BRAKE LINES TO DETERMINE WHEN THE SHOULD BE REPLACED? *TR
ON 9-19-2014 THE TRUCK WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND STARTED TO INCH FORWARD. SLIGHT PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL STOPPED THE MOVEMENT. THE EVENT WAS SO QUICK AND SLIGHT I THOUGHT NOTHING ABOUT IT. I TURNED ON THE FREEWAY AND DROVE 30 OR 40 MILES BEFORE TOUCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN. WHEN I DID IT WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT SLOWING THE TRUCK SPEED ANY APPRECIABLE AMOUNT. AT THAT POINT I KNEW I HAD A SERIOUS PROBLEM. I GEARED THE TRUCK DOWN AND WAS ABLE TO AVOID BEING INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. IF I HAD NEEDED TO COME TO A FULL AND FAST STOP IT COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN A DISASTER. AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED GM HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME WITHOUT NOTICE TO TRUCK OWNERS THAT IT EXISTS. AN INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE LINES WAS DONE AND INDICATED A FAILURE IN THE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM DUE TO RUST. THE FUEL LINES SHOWED THE SAME KIND OF DETERIORATION. PICTURES CAN BE PROVIDED TO VERIFY THE LACK OF ADVANCED RUST CONDITIONS TO THE UNDERNEATH OF THE TRUCK OTHER THAN THE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM, THE FUEL LINE SYSTEM, AND THE DRIVE SHAFT. THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED NEW IN SOUTH CAROLINA AND HAS BEEN DRIVEN THERE 90% ON THE TOTAL MILEAGE ON IT. *TR
WHILE PULLING A CAMPER-TRAILER, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO STOP UTILIZING THE BRAKES ON THE TRAILER. I WAS ONLY A SHORT DISTANCE FROM HOME AND I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRAILER BACK, KEEPING THE TRANSMISSION IN 1ST GEAR AND THE TRAILER BRAKES. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A CHEVY DEALER THAT WAS JUST A VERY SHORT DISTANCE UTILIZING THE GEARS AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. UPON INSPECTION, THE DEALER FOUND AT LEAST TWO LOCATIONS WHERE THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH. HE RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE ALL BRAKE LINES WITH A LINE THAT WAS CORROSION RESISTANT. THE REPAIR WAS JUST UNDER $2000. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED GMC SINCE THE TRUCK HAS 74,000 MILES AND IS OUT OF ALL WARRANTIES. *TR
DRIVING INTO THE VILLAGE, HAD TO STOP FOR SOMEONE MAKING A LEFT TURN, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. COMPLETE BRAKING FAILURE. NO ACCIDENT, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE RIGHT, BUT REAL SCARY, MY SON WAS WITH ME. GOT THE TRUCK HOME AND NOW ALL THE BRAKE FLUID RAN DOWN THE DRIVE WAY. LOOKS LIKE GM WENT CHEAP AGAIN, THE BRAKE LINES ARE HORRIBLY RUSTED AND THE FLUID IS LEAKING FROM AN AREA JUST UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT. *TR
BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND LEAKING. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BREAKING OFF CAUSING EXHAUST LEAK WHERE MANIFOLD BOLTS ONTO HEAD. DUE TO EXHAUST LEAK NOW VEHICLE IS THROWING CODES FOR CATALYTIC THRESHOLD LOW. WHICH LEADS TO A MAGNITUDE OF PROBLEMS TO LACK OF POWER, POOR FUEL MILEAGE AND NOT BEING ABLE TO PASS EMISSION TEST IN SOME STATES. PROBLEM RESULTS IN UPWARD OF THOUSAND DOLLARS IN REPAIR FOR FAULTY BOLTS, AFTER RESEARCHING SAID PROBLEM IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH GM V8 OF THIS YEAR OLDER AND NEWER AS WELL. THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT AND FLAW IN GM'S DESIGN AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASPA!!! THIS IS A PROB THAT IS AFFECTING EPA LAWS AND NEEDS ACTION TAKEN AGAINST GM TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IT GETS WORSE. GM NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR VEHICLES AND POOR DESIGN AND OR PRODUCTS THAT GO INTO THEM THAT CAUSES LAWS OR SAFETY TO BE BROKEN OR EFFECTED! *JS
I WAS TAKING MY 4 YR OLD TO SCHOOL THIS MORNING WITH HIS 1 YR OLD SISTER WHEN THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. UPON APPROACHING A RED STOPLIGHT AT 30 MILES PER HOUR WITH THREE CARS STOPPED AHEAD OF ME I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. I PULLED GEARSHIFT TO THE LOW POSITION AND SWERVED INTO THE VACANT LEFT HAND TURNING LANE TO AVOID THE CARS STOPPED AT THE LIGHT. THEN TURNED HARD RIGHT AS TO NOT ENTER THE BUSY INTERSECTION IN FRONT OF ME WITH NO AVAIL. SOMEHOW WE WERE NOT HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. AT THAT TIME I PULLED VEHICLE OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WHICH ENDED ABRUPTLY AND TURNED INTO A GRASSY AREA OF A BASEBALL FIELD WHERE THE VEHICLE FINALLY CAME TO A STOP.GM STATES THAT IF THERE IS A BRAKE LINE FAILURE THE VEHICLE STILL HAS BRAKING ABILITY. I CAN TELL YOU FIRST HAND THAT IS A TOTALLY FALSE STATEMENT. MY VEHICLE DASH DID NOT DISPLAY ANY PROBLEM PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. WHEN VEHICLE WAS TOW TO MY HOME I PUT KEY IN THE IGNITION TO CHECK MY MILEAGE AND NOW A BRAKE FAILURE MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED.I AM VERY ANGRY WITH GM FOR NOT NOTIFYING ME OF THIS PROBLEM AND NEVER HAD ANY IDEA THERE WAS AN ON GOING ISSUE UNTIL TODAY. MYSELF AND MY TWO CHILDREN COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED TODAY BECAUSE OF THIS NEGLECT. PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE MANY MORE GM VEHICLE WILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND INNOCENT PEOPLE AND THEIR FAMILIES WILL BE HURT OR EVEN DIE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN A 40 MPH STREET WHEN I NOTICED THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL WAS ABOUT TO TURN RED WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WHEN DOWN TO THE FLOOR I LOST ALL BRAKES I SLOWED DOWN BY DOWN SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION AND APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. WHEN I PULLED OVER THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID LEAKING ALL OVER UNDER DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. UPON INSPECTION I NOTICED THE BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT AND LOST ALL FLUID. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED THERE WAS NO WARNING. I NEEDED TO HAVE MY BRAKE LINES REPLACED I BELIEVE THIS IS A START OF SOMETHING BAD IF GM DOESN'T ACT ON THIS PROBLEM. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL HAD NO PRESSURE AND WENT TO THE FLOOR. TRUCK WOULDN'T STOP. LATER I NOTICED A BRAKE FLUID LEAK. THERE WAS NO LEAK BEFORE THE INCIDENT AND BRAKES WORKED PERFECTLY EARLIER IN THE DAY. IF I HADN'T BEEN IN A PARKING LOT AND OUT ON THE ROAD, THERE WOULD CERTAINLY HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. DURING THE FAILURE, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE READING WAS HIGH AND STEAM APPEARED FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD WAS CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,400.
BRAKE FAILURE! BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH ALLOWING FLUID TO LEAK OUT. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY HAVE SAFETY BELTS, AIR BAGS, SAFETY GLASS, AND MANY OTHER SAFETY FEATURES ON CARS AND TRUCKS BUT DO NOT MAKE IT MANDATORY THAT ALL BRAKE COMPONENTS (LINES) ARE NOT MADE OF STAINLESS STEEL TUBING! WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD MINIMAL BRAKING POWER. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE SAFELY BUT THE BRAKES LINES ARE COMPLETELY GONE. THEY ARE ALL RUSTED AND HAVE SEVERAL HOLES IN THEM AND MUST BE REPLACED. *TR
ALL FUEL AND BRAKES LIKE ROTTED. THE BRAKES FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME. ONE BRAKE LINE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED APPROX. 1 YEAR AGO. BOTH TIMES VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TOWED FOR REPAIR. TOTAL COST FOR MOST RECENT REPLACEMENT/REPAIR WAS $1202.13. *TR
I HAD NOT DRIVEN MY TRUCK IN A FEW MONTHS DUE TO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VENTILATION CONTROLS. WHILE BEGINNING TO PREPARE THE TRUCK TO TOW A 3500 POUND BOAT I NEEDED TO REPOSITION THE TRUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE DRIVEWAY SLOPES DOWN TO THE STREET. WHILE MOVING THE TRUCK, ON MY DRIVEWAY, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. PUMPING THE BRAKES WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK THAT WAS TRAVELING AT IDLE SPEED. ALL BRAKING WAS GONE AND THE TRUCK ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY AND INTO TRAFFIC ON MY STREET. BY TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND COASTING TO A STOP (IN GEAR) JUST AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. AFTER GETTING THE TRUCK BACK IN MY DRIVEWAY I FOUND TWO DISTINCT PUDDLES OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE TRUCK. INSPECTING THE BRAKE LINES SHOWED THAT THERE WERE AT LEAST TWO DIFFERENT FAILURE POINTS IN THE BRAKE LINES. ONE CLOSER TO THE MASTER CYLINDER AND ANOTHER A FEW FEET FURTHER BACK. I BELIEVE ONE FAILURE OCCURRED IN THE FRONT BRAKE CIRCUIT AND THE OTHER WAS IN THE REAR BRAKE CIRCUIT WHICH LED TO THE *COMPLETE* LOSS OF BRAKING. THIS IS CONTRARY TO GM CLAIMS THAT THIS FAILURE CAN NOT LEAD TO TOTAL BRAKE LOSS. I HAVE PICTURES AND VIDEO OF THE FAILURE POINTS THAT I CAN FORWARD IF NEEDED. *TR
HAD TO STOP SUDDENLY AT ABOUT 20 MPH. BRAKE LINES BURST DUE TO CORROSION. ALL LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED. COST $756.87 FOR REPLACEMENT. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE STARTING MY 2004 GMC, SOMETIME WHEN I TURNED THE KEY IT WOULD DO NOTHING, I HAD IT TOWED IN AND SPENT OVER $500 TO REPAIR IT, ALTERNATOR, BATTERY ETC, AND IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. WHEN I GOT IT BACK, AND IT DID IT AGAIN, I FOUND THAT IF I MOVED THE STEERING WHEEL UP AND DOWN WITH THE LEVER, IT WOULD THEN START. YESTERDAY I WENT OUT TO START MY TRUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY, AND THE KEY WILL NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION. IT FEELS LIKE THE IGNITION CAME APART OR SOMETHING INSIDE. THE STEERING WHEEL IS NOT LOCKED. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THIS VEHICLE TOWED IN AGAIN AND PAY TO REPAIR THE IGNITION, WHEN GM HAS BEEN HAVING HUGE PROBLEMS WITH IGNITIONS! I HAVE HAD OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE TO INCLUDE A FIRE UNDER THE DASH. MY INSURANCE COVERED IT BECAUSE A FUSE MELTED AND DID NOT DO IT'S JOB, HOWEVER NOW MY SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK, AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR A NEW WIRING HARNESS WHICH I WILL NOT DO. I USE MY GPS TO TRACK MY SPEED! THE REAR TRANSFER CASE WENT ON IT, AND I SPENT $1,800 TO HAVE A NEW ONE INSTALLED. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER SMALL THINGS, BUT THOSE ARE THE MAJOR PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD OVER THE YEARS. I AM LIKE EVERY OTHER AVERAGE PERSON. I HAD NO IDEA HOW TO GET GM TO FIX THEM, SO I JUST PAID MYSELF! AFTER RESEARCHING THIS I FOUND OUT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH CERTAIN YEAR MODEL GM VEHICLES. THIS IS A EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AND I CANT BELIEVE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS. DOES IT REALLY TAKE DEATHS FOR GM TO ACT ON DEFECTS THEY ARE AWARE OF? I HAVE A 1988 JEEP WRANGLER AND THE BRAKE LINES LOOK A LOT BETTER THAN THOSE ON MY TRUCK. I WAS DRIVING DOWN ROUTE 24 IN LEWES, DELAWARE APPROACHING A YELLOW LIGHT WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY COMPLETELY FAILED DESPITE PUTTING THE PEDDLE ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS FORCED TO VEER ONTO THE SHOULDER THEN INTO A FARMERS FIELD IN ORDER TO SLOW THE TRUCK DOWN ENOUGH TO FORCE IT INTO PARK. APPARENTLY THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES ON THESE TRUCKS ARE COMPLETELY EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS AND HAVE A HISTORY OF FAILING. ONCE THAT HAPPENS, THE REAR CALIPERS LOCK UP AND THERE ARE NO BRAKES AT ALL SWITCH CAN CAUSE A CRASH. THERE IS NO WARNING GIVEN UNTIL THE HYDRAULIC LINE SNAPS AND THE FLUID IS RELEASED. MY TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND HAS LOW MILEAGE FOR ITS AGE. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND IS NOT A WORK TRUCK BUT MERELY A PERSONAL VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, I AM ON MY THIRD TRANSMISSION DO TO THE POOR SELECTION GM MADE OF PUTTING THE S-10 PICK UP TRANSMISSION IN A SUBSTANTIALLY HEAVIER TRUCK. *TR

WAS WARNED OF THIS PROBLEM UPON PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE IN 2010 AND PERSONALLY COATED ALL BRAKE LINES B4 WINTER EVERY YEAR...NEVER SAW WORSE LINES! I OWN CLASSIC CARS THAT ARE TWICE AS OLD WITH SHINEY ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES. THE FUEL LINES ALSO ROTTED OUT SPILLING FUEL OVER THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK AND ON THE GROUND WHILE FILLING UP. ALL FUEL LINES AND FUEL PUMP CONNECTIONS WERE SEVERELY ROTTED. WORST I HAVE SEEN. DASH CONSISTENTLY CHANGES LANGUAGES RENDERING ODOMETER NON FUNCTIONAL. SPEEDOMETER IS INACCURATE SOME TIMES NOT EVEN WORKING ESPECIALLY ON COLD DAYS. HMMMM ROTTED BRAKES+NO SPEEDOMETER+LEAKY FUEL LINES=CRASH,BANG BOOM!..AND I HAVE A CAR SEAT IN MY VEHICLE! LUCKLY I PERFORM PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE AND DRIVE SAFELY. STILL WONDER HOW THESE ISSUES GOT SWEPT UNDER THE RUG.

TRAVELING SOUTH, NY RT. 12. ATTEMPTED TO SLOW FOR A RIGHT TURN. SIGNAL ON, TOWING AN EMPTY TRAILER APPROX WEIGHT 2000 LBS. APPLIED THE SERVICE BRAKE FOR THE TURN, PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, NO BRAKES. LUCKILY NO INCIDENT. EXAMINED THE UNDERNEATH AND FOUND THAT THE STEEL BRAKE LINES WERE ROUTED OVER THE FRAME ON THE DRIVER SIDE (UNDERNEATH BODY UNDER THE DRIVER DOOR.) WHEN BRAKE LINE(S) FAILED, THERE WERE NO SIGN OF ANY BRAKING ABILITY. BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE SYSTEMS WERE INOPERABLE. THE LINES HAD RUSTED THROUGH FROM APPARENTLY ROAD SALT OR (?), CREATING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SINCE THE INCIDENT I HAVE SPOKE WITH SEVERAL OTHER DRIVERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. *TR

I HAD JUST HAD THE TRUCK INSPECTED. WAS DRIVING HOME AND TWO BLOCKS FROM THE INSPECTION STATION WHEN I CAME TO A RED LIGHT. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. FORTUNATELY I REACTED QUICKLY ENOUGH TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK AND KEEP FROM REAR ENDING THE CAR THAT WAS ALREADY STOPPED. AFTER PULLING INTO PARKING LOT AND INSPECTING THE BRAKES I NOTICED A PUDDLE UNDER THE FRONT LEFT OF THE TRUCK. LOOKING CLOSER I FOUND THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH. I RETURNED TO THE SHOP WHERE I HAD THE INSPECTION DONE. HE REPAIRED THE ONE LINE THAT HAD BURST. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE OTHER LINES LOOKED RUSTED AND READY TO BURST AT ANYTIME. *TR
I SMELLED EXHAUST FUMES IN THE CAB OF THE PICKUP TRUCK AND HEARD A SHRIEKING SOUND UNDER THE HOOD. I HAD TO PUT THE WINDOW DOWN TO RELIEVE MY DIZZINESS FROM THE FUMES. UPON INVESTIGATION I FOUND 3 OF THE 6 BOLTS BROKEN THAT FASTEN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD TO THE ENGINE. EXHAUST FUMES ARE LEAKING FROM THE BURNED OUT GASKET. *TR
