BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE LIKE THAT. TAKES OVER 100X LONGER TO STOP A 3/4 TON TRUCK. I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT. I ALSO FOUND SEVERAL HUNDRED REPORTS OF THE SAME THINGS ON GM TRUCK ONLINE. I ALSO HEARD YOU WERE INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE ALREADY. I WANTED TO MAKE SURE I AM COUNTED AS ONE OF THE EFFECTED PEOPLE. I ALSO READ WHERE GM DOES NOT CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE. I DISAGREE. THE LINE FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS UNIT BLEW SO I HAD ZERO BRAKE PRESSURE AND PEDAL. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AS IT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE ALREADY SPENT OVER $1000 AND A WEEK TRYING TO FIX THIS AND REPLACE ALL THE RUSTED LINE. I STILL DO NOT HAVE THE TRUCK BACK ON THE ROAD. THANKS *TR
BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT AND FAILED IN TWO SPOTS IN THE LAST MONTH. *TR
BRAKES ENGAGED THE ANTILOCK DEVICE EVEN AS I WAS DRIVING ON DRY PAVEMENT. THIS HAPPENED OFTEN, AND IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL WITH FOLLOWING DISTANCE YOU'LL REAR END THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF YOU. THIS HAPPENS IN A RANDOM FASHION THAT THE ANTILOCK DEVICE GETS ENGAGED. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE FAILED TO ENGAGE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO APPLY THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION THAT CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
ALL OF THE VEHICLE INSTRUMENT GAUGES GO INOPERATIVE INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE NEW. THERE HAS BEEN A GM ACTION OF SORT ON THIS, OF WHICH I AM NOT SURE. HOWEVER, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED AND CURRENTLY AM EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A GM DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THE MAINTENANCE ACTION(WHATEVER IT IS) EXPIRED IN 2011. SO THE REPAIR IS TOTALLY UPON US TO FIX, SOME $540. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, NEEDED TO SLOW DOWN FOR TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO STILL DRIVE IT, AS THE BRAKES WOULD STOP THE TRUCK EVENTUALLY. CAUSE WAS THE RUSTED REAR BRAKE LINE THAT RUPTURED. COST TO FIX WAS $400.00 IN ADDITION, ON 12.27.13, I HAD THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING REPLACED AT A COST OF $525.00. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 66,600 MILES ON IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT OBSERVED CORROSION ON THE FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
CRACKED CYLINDER HEADS, ALSO KNOWN AS CASTECH HEAD CASTING #706 THESE HEADS CRACK ON THE ENGINE CAUSE ANTIFREEZE TO MIX WITH THE OIL AND DESTROY THE ENGINE, I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND THEY WILL DO NOTHING FOR ME, EVEN THOUGH THERE HAS BEEN LAWSUITS AND ITS A VERY WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE VORTEC 4.8 AND 5.3L GM ENGINE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AT A LOW SPEED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
WHILE BACKING IN DRIVEWAY, BRAKE PEDAL HIT THE FLOOR WITH NO PRESSURE. LOST ALL FLUID IN SYSTEM. 3 BRAKE LINE TO BREAK IN 4 YEARS. *TR
BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED OUT AND BURST SO THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE TRUCK. TRUCK WAS ON A DOWN HILL INCLINE AND WENT THROUGH A STOP LIGHT (FORTUNATELY IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT AND THERE WAS NO CROSSING TRAFFIC.) HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD EITHER DISPLAY AN INACCURATE SPEED READING OR BECOME COMPLETELY INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE DEFECT WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A NEW INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED TO REMEDY THE DEFECT. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83000.
I WAS I 91 SOUTH HEADING IN TO HARTFORD CT, TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY AND AS A RESULT I WAS TRAVELING APPX 20 MPH AS I ENTERED THE RAMP EXIT LANE. I STEPPED ON BRAKE PEDAL AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO VEER INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE AND AVOID HITTING OTHER CARS. I SLOWLY MADE IT TO MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT AND LATER HAD THE TRUCK TOWED HOME. AS IT TURNS OUT I DISCOVERED THE ALL BRAKE LINES HAD CORRODED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I CONTACTED GM AS I THOUGHT IT VERY UNUSUAL FOR ALL BRAKES LINES TO BE SO SEVERELY CORRODED. THEY ATTRIBUTED THE SEVERE CORROSION TO THE FACT THAT THE TRUCK WAS 10 YEARS OLD AND REFUSED TO COVER THE EXPENSE AND CONSIDERED THE CASE CLOSED. BY DOING A SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS SAME PROBLEM IS QUITE COMMON AND MY MECHANIC ALSO INFORMED THAT GM ( POSSIBLY AS A RESULT OF THIS BEING A COMMON ISSUE) HAS MADE A AVAILABLE A BRAKE LINE REPLACEMENT KIT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA DENALI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ABLE TO BE FULLY DEPRESSED BUT DID STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DOWNSHIFTED AND THE PARKING BRAKE WAS APPLIED WHEN THE BRAKE WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT TO BE TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 41,000.
AFTER EXITING ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN I EXPERIENCED CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED THERE WAS NO PRESSURE, AND THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR SENSORS WERE ACTIVATED BEFORE THE TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL GMC DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME THAT THE BRAKE LINE "BLEW OUT" FROM THE FRONT LEFT CALIPER BECAUSE OF RUST. I RESEARCHED SUCH PROBLEMS AND FOUND THAT SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WERE NUMEROUS AND THAT THE NHTSA HAD INITIATED AN INQUIRY/INVESTIGATIONS INTO EXCESSIVE RUST ON BRAKE COMPONENTS OF GMC VEHICLES CAUSING THIS TYPE OF TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. *TR
I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE WHEN SUDDENLY THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. AFTER THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR THE ABS BRAKE WARNING LIGHT AND SERVICE BRAKES LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO PUSH DOWN ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL BEFORE STRIKING MY OTHER TRUCK WHICH WAS PARKED BEHIND ME. BEING SOMEWHAT MECHANICALLY INCLINED, I SAW A LINE OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND IN FRONT OF THE TRUCK EXTENDING BENEATH IT. I LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK, ALMOST DIRECTLY BELOW THE DRIVERS SEAT AND SAW A BUNDLE OF STEEL BRAKE LINES THAT WERE NOTHING BUT A SOLID MASS OF RUST AND DRIPPING BRAKE FLUID! THE RUSTING IS SO BAD THAT I CAN'T TELL WHETHER IT'S ONE OR ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH! SINCE I'M RETIRED (AND DON'T HAVE TO DRIVE IN BAD WEATHER) AND HAVE ANOTHER OLDER TRUCK I DRIVE MOST OF THE TIME, THE GMC HAS RARELY SEEN BAD WEATHER (I PURCHASED IT NEW) AND WHEN IT DID IT WAS ALWAYS PRESSURE WASHED (UNDERNEATH) AT THE CAR WASH IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SNOW OR ICE HAD ENDED! MY BROTHER WHO IS A MECHANIC RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE RUSTED BRAKES LINES ON A 2005 CHEVY TRUCK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING INTO HER RESIDENTIAL GARAGE, THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, SHE NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES HAD FRACTURED AND ALL THE REST OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED SUDDENLY. MY BRAKES FAILED AS MY FOOT/PEDAL HIT THE FLOOR. ALL I HEARD WAS BUZZING. I HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. MECHANIC SHOWED ME THE RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINE THAT FAILED. ADVISED ME THAT THE ABS PUMP JUST PLAN EMPTIED MY MC TO MAKE UP PRESSURE LOSS. MY COMPLAINT ISN'T SO MUCH THE FACT THAT MY BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT AS IT IS A 10 YEAR OLD TRUCK, (ALTHOUGH STAINLESS LINES WITH STEEL CONNECTORS WOULD BE A HUGE IMPROVEMENT). BUT MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE ABS SYSTEMS IN THESE TRUCKS, AND MAYBE OTHER VEHICLES ARE FLAWED. BACK BEFORE ABS CAME OUT, IF A LINE WAS DAMAGED OR FAILED FOR WHATEVER REASON THE SEPARATED RESERVOIRS IN MC'S WOULD AT LEAST GIVE YOU FRONT OR REAR BRAKES TO STOP. THAT WAS THE BEST SINGLE DESIGN IMPROVEMENT MANUFACTURERS MADE TO BRAKES, AND I'VE BEEN DRIVING WHEN MC'S ONLY HAD ONE RESERVOIR. TO HAVE A COMPLETE MC DRAINED FOR A LINE FAILURE IS LUDICROUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 2500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASH INTO A FIRE HYDRANT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND IT WAS UNKNOWN IF THERE WERE ANY INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER BUT NO INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED REGARDING THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
04 GMC SIERRA 1500 EXTENDED CAB FRONT STEEL BRAKE LINES CORROSION/RUSTED AND BURST CAUSED SUDDEN FLUID LEAKAGE AND FAILURE TO STOP PLACED ME IN A DANGEROUS/HAZARDOUS SITUATION. FINDING A RELIABLE SHOP, EXPENSIVE TOWING AND REPAIRS CAUSED TREMENDOUS BURDEN AND INCONVENIENCE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME STUCK TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINE WAS LEAKING DUE TO CORROSION. THE REAR BRAKE LINE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,047 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000. UPDATED 11-04-13 *BF UPDATED 11/8/2013 *JS
THIS PAST WEEK, AS I WAS DRIVING TO GET GAS FOR OUR CAMPING TRIP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO WARNING. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE DUALLY SLOWED DOWN WITHOUT INCIDENT, BUT WAS IT EVER CLOSE. AFTER GETTING THE TRUCK BACK TO MY HOUSE, I BEGAN INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE AS I SAW NO LEAK AND THE RESERVOIR WAS NEAR FULL. I SAW ONLINE THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A GM ISSUE WITH A FEW YEARS OF TRUCKS IN MY AGE BRACKET. I CLIMBED UP UNDER THE TRUCK AND FOUND THE LINES TO BE SHOT. NOT ONE WITH A RUST HOLE, BUT ALL OF THEM CORRODED FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER. I KNOW THE TRUCK IS 8 YEARS OLD, BUT IT SITS MOST THE TIME AND ALMOST ALWAYS THROUGH THE WINTER. I HAVE ONLY HAD ONE OTHER CAR IN 30 YEARS THAT HAD A BRAKE LINE RUST. IT SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING IN THIS HIGH END OF A VEHICLE. MY DAD BOUGHT THE MATCHING TRUCK. HIS SITS WINTERS IN THE BARN AND ONLY HAS 50K ON IT. I WILL CHECK IT THIS WEEKEND. *JS

DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AS TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY IN A AREA THAT IS SLOW IN THE MORNING. THE BRAKES STARTED TO SLOW ME DOWN, THEN WITHOUT WARNING THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I COULD NOT SLOW THE TRUCK. I TOOK ACTION AND MOVED ONTO THE NEXT LANE TO AVOID A CRASH. I CONTINUED TO APPLY THE BRAKES WHICH ONLY WORKED A LITTLE BIT UNTIL I CAME TO A STOP. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY HOUSE. UPON INSPECTION, ONE OF THE FOUR BRAKE LINES THAT RUN ALONG THE OUTSIDE OF THE FRAME UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT HAD BURST DUE TO EXTENSIVE RUST. IN FACT ALL FOUR OF THE BRAKE LINES IN THIS LOCATION HAD EXTENSIVE RUST. I HAD TO HAVE ALL FOR REPLACED. *TR
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP, THE TRUCK BEGAN TO STOP AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. AT THIS POINT THERE WERE NO BRAKES AT ALL. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS IN FRONT OF ME SO I WAS ABLE TO COAST UNTIL THE VEHICLE SLOWED, AND THEN USE THE E-BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO TURN. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, A BRAKE LINE HAD BROKEN. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE PA TURNPIKE AT APPROX. 60 MPH, TRAFFIC SUDDENLY SLOWED IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS PULLING OUR 30 FIFTH WHEEL CAMPER AT THE TIME. I APPLIED THE BRAKE HARD HAD A SPLIT SECOND OF BRAKING ACTION AND THEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO USE THE MANUAL TRAILER BRAKE CONTROL TO SLOW THE TRUCK SOME, SWERVED INTO THE LEFT LANE MISSING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BY INCHES AND THE CAR TO THE LEFT OF ME SWERVED INTO THE FAR LEFT LANE TO AVOID HITTING ME. (THREE LANE HIGHWAY) I MANAGED TO DRIVE THE TRUCK TO A REST AREA ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD USING BOTH THE TRAILER BRAKES AND THE TRUCK EMERGENCY BRAKES. THE CAUSE OF THE BRAKE FAILURE WAS THAT THE BRAKE LINE LOCATED UNDER THE DRIVERS AREA HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND RUPTURED. *JB
MY MOTHER BORROWED MY TRUCK TO RUN AN ERRAND ON HER WAY HOME SHE CALLED TO TELL ME THAT THE "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" MESSAGE HAD APPEARED IN THE DIC. MOMENTS LATER THE VEHICLE LOST ALL STOPPING ABILITY. THANKFULLY DUE TO THE COMBONATION OF AN EMPTY ROAD GOOD DRIVING NO COLLISION OCURED. THIS MORNING I GO TO INVEGISTATE TO FIND COMPLETE RUST THROUGH ON TWO OF THE STEEL HYDRAULIC LINES LOCATED JUST BEHIND THE DRIVERS FRONT WHEEL. ALL STEEL LINES IN THIS TRUCK BRAKE, FUEL, AND, TRANSMISSION COOLER HAVE SIMILAR EXTENSIVE RUST DAMAGE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGERIOUS AND WILL BE EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR AS TO ENSURE SAFETY ALL METAL LINES WILL NEED CHANGING. I CAME TO FIND OUT THAT NOT ONLY IS THIS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE TRUCKS BUT THAT GM IS DOING NOTHING TO HELP OWNERS NOR DO THEY OFFER CORRECT QUALITY OE STYLE REPLACEMENT LINES. I WAS QOUTED OVER $1000 BY TWO SEPERATE DEALERS IN MY AREA. MY TRUCK IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND IS DRIVEN MUCH LESS THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE THIS FAILURE HAS TRULY UPSET ME I DONT SEE BUYING ANOTHER GM PRODUCT IN THE FUTURE. *TT
EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF SERVICE BRAKES. FORTUNATELY THIS OCCURED AFTER COMPLETING A TRIP WHILE TOWING A TRAILER. HAD THIS HAPPENED DURING THE TRIP SERIOUS INJURIES AND MULTIPLE DEATHS COULD HAVE BEEN THE RESULT. INVESTIGATION OF THE PROBLEM INDICATED PREMTURE RUSTING THROUGH OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINE TO THE RIGHT FRONT DISC BRAKE. THE BRAKE LINE TO THE LEFT FRONT CALIPER IS ALSO BADLY RUSTED. THE BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER ARE MILDLY RUSTED AS WELL.
BRAKES WORKED PERFECTLY TO STOP VEHICLE ON A STEEP DOWNWARD HILL IN ORDER TO OPEN A GATE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL OF MY DRIVEWAY. AFTER THE GATE WAS OPENED THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED DOWN THE HILL COASTING AND THERE WAS A TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE WHEN TRYING TO SLOW DOWN. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A TREE TO AVOID GOING OVER A CLIFF. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED WITH NO WARNING OF BRAKE FAILURE. FRONT AND REAR BREAKS FAILED AT THE SAME TIME. NO WARNING BRAKE LIGHT INDICATOR ON DASH EVER WENT ON. THIS OCCURRED ON MY PROPERTY AND DRIVER AND A PASSENGER WERE BOTH INJURED. BODY SHOP INDICATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A FATALITY IF THE FAILURE TOOK PLACE ON THE ROAD. *TR
THIS OCCURRED ON 8/13/2013 IN CENTRAL VIRGINIA AND THE TRUCK HAD 93461 MILES ON IT. WHILE MOVING MY 2004 GMC SIERRA 1500 TRUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY, MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR BECAUSE THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE LINE HAD BURST. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT OR CHIME INDICATING A BRAKE SYSTEM ISSUE. THE DUAL MASTER CYLINDER SYSTEM ONLY PROVIDED ENOUGH BRAKING TO SLIGHTLY SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN AND THE PARKING BRAKE DIDN'T HELP MUCH. I HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP AND THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO A CORRODED STEEL BRAKE LINE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THESE LINES FREQUENTLY IN A LARGE NUMBER OF CHEVROLET AND GMC PICKUP TRUCKS. THEY REPLACED THE LINE AND I HAD PLANNED TO REPLACE ALL OF THE OTHER LINES IN A FEW MONTHS. TWO WEEKS AFTER THE REPAIR WAS DONE AND APPROXIMATELY 50 MILES LATER, ANOTHER LINE FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. AGAIN, THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS OR CHIMES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I ESTIMATE THAT THERE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 10% BRAKING POWER AND WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE PARKING BRAKE DID HELP SOME BUT IS NO A SUBSTITUTE FOR A REAL EMERGENCY BRAKE THAT THE OLDER VEHICLES USED TO HAVE. ADDITIONALLY, IT IS NOT EASY TO LIFT YOUR FOOT UP TO IT AS THE PEDAL IS MOUNTED SOMEWHAT HIGH OFF THE FLOOR. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THAT THIS TIME IT WAS A STEEL LINE RUNNING TO THE MASTER CYLINDER AND COULD BE SEEN LEAKING FLUID FROM INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I HAD THEM REPLACE ALL THE LINES. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE NHTSA HASN'T DEMANDED A RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES FOR THE CORRODED BRAKE LINES AND THE FAILURE OF THE DUAL MASTER CYLINDER SYSTEM TO OFFER ANY RELIABLE METHOD OF STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES THAT ARE MUCH OLDER THAN THIS TRUCK AND THEIR LINES WERE ALWAYS RUST FREE AND NEVER FAILED. ALTHOUGH MOST ARE NOT RECORDED HERE, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF GM TRUCK OWNERS REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
GOT IN VEHICLE, STARTED IT,PUT IN GEAR,APPLIED BRAKE AND PEDAL DEPRESSED FARTHER THAN USUAL, HIT AGAIN THEY WENT ALMOST TO FLOOR.GOT OUT AND SAW BRAKE FLUID ON FRAME WHERE LINE HAD RUSTED IN THROUGH.UPON INSPECTION ALL LINES ARE TERRIBLY RUSTED AND WILL NEED REPLACED. *TR
I WAS PARKING OUR 2004 GMC SIERRA PICK UP TRUCK WHEN MY FOOT WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE TRUCK, I NOTICED ALL THE BRAKE FLUID DRAINING OUT OF THE BRAKE LINE ON TO THE GROUND. WHEN OUR MECHANIC LOOKED AT IT, HE SAID ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED OUT AND THAT THE WHOLE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE TRUCK WAS ENTIRELY RUSTED OUT. WHAT A DISGRACE. *TR
UPON APPLYING BRAKES TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE, PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND ALL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO GARAGE, AND UPON INSPECTION A METAL BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED OUT. AFTER REPLACING BRAKE LINE GARAGE WAS BLEEDING BRAKES AND ANOTHER LINE FAILED. WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT I SHOULD HAVE ALL THE METAL LINES REPLACED BECAUSE OF SEVER RUSTING OF THE METAL. THIS SEEMS TO BE MORE PREVALENT IN GENERAL MOTORS THAN ANY OTHER BRAND. I WAS TOLD THAT THE USE OF SALT BRINE SOLUTION IN OUR AREA FOR WINTER FREEZING IS THE REASON BEHIND THIS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE MECHANIC IS SEEING AT LEAST ONE VEHICLE A WEEK WITH THIS PROBLEM. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA DENALI. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ABLE TO BE FULLY DEPRESSED AND THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 86,000.
BRAKES FAILED DUE TO A SUDDEN BRAKE LINE FAILURE. THERE HAD BEEN NO PRIOR FLUID LEAKS. THE REAR METAL BRAKE LINE UNDER THE BED RUSTED AT A CLAMP IN FRONT OF THE FUEL TANK. AS I HAVE LOOKED FURTHER INTO THIS I HAVE SEVERAL FRIENDS THAT HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND SEVERAL SHOPS SAID THAT THEY SAW THIS OFTEN WITH THESE VEHICLES ALL FAILING IN THE SAME AREA. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE TOWING A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER AND TRAFFIC CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP. I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND HAD BRAKES THAN THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I LOST BRAKING POWER. I LET OFF THE BRAKES AND REAPPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH LOW BREAKING AFFECT. I PULLED THE TRUCK OVER AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID COMING OUT FROM ABOVE THE GAS TANK. I CAREFULLY TOOK THE TRUCK OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT USING MY TRAILER BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE FIRST SERVICE STATION THAT I SAW AND HAD THEM LOOK AT IT. THEY FOUND THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED AT A CLIP ABOVE THE FRAME RAIL ABOVE THE GAS TANK AND ADVISED ME THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKE LINE. UNFORTUNATELY I WAS STUCK AWAY FROM MY TOOLS AND SERVICE SHOPS THAT I USE AND WAS STUCK BEING GOUGED BY THE SERVICE CENTER THAT I WAS ABLE TO GET TO FOR A REPAIR. AFTER I RETURNED HOME FROM VACATION I QUESTIONED THE MGT OF THE SERVICE CENTER ABOUT THE BILL. THEY CHECKED WITH THE LOCAL DEALER ABOUT THE HOURS FOR THE REPAIR AND THE LOCAL DEALER ADVISED THEM THAT THEY SEE THIS ALL THE TIME ON THIS VEHICLE. I LOOKED FOR A RECALL ON THIS AND FOUND NONE. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT THIS AS JUST ABOUT EVERYONE THAT I TALK TO ABOUT THIS PROBLEM HAS ALL SEEN IT. GM ADVISED ME THAT IT WAS AN ISOLATED PROBLEM AND THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP WITH THE REPAIR SINCE THE TRUCK WAS 9 YEARS OLD. I ADVISED THEM THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THEY DENY IT BUT THEY DID OFFER ME $2000 TOWARDS A NEW GM VEHICLE. I ADVISED THEM THAT WAS NOT WHAT I WAS AFTER AS I DO NOT NEED A NEW VEHICLE NOR WANT AN NEW VEHICLE. WHAT I DID ASK FOR WAS 50% OF WHAT THE REPAIR WAS AS IT WAS A 9 YEAR OLD TRUCK AND THEY REFUSED. THEY WILL NOT EVEN PUT THE REFUSAL IN WRITING. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL BEFORE THIS PROBLEM KILLS SOMEONE AS IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. I SEEN AN INVESTIGATION TO 03 BUT MINE IS 04 WITH SAME. *TR
BRAKE LINES COMPLETED RUSTED OUT. PURCHASED FROM A GMC/CHEVY DEALER WITH NO NOTICE OF THIS ISSUE. THEY KNEW ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED. STILL NO RECALL. I GUESS NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE DIED YET. *TR

HE CONTINUED APPLYING PRESSURE UNTIL THE PEDAL TOUCHED THE FLOORBOARD AND FINALLY, THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEEL BRAKE LINES EXHIBITED MASSIVE CORROSION AND WERE LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT DEALER WHERE THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK, THE VEHICLE EMITTED A LOUD EXPLOSIVE NOISE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO REVERSE HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SEPARATED FROM THE ARM AND THE BOLT HAD BECOME SHREDDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHERE AN INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE STEERING BOX AND PITMAN ARM BOLT HAD SHREDDED FROM THE TIE ROD CENTER LINK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000.

THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES LINES WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. IN ADDITION, BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,600.

INCIDENT #1 WHILE TRAVELING AT 50 MPH ON A COUNTRY ROAD I APPLIED BRAKES TO DECELERATE FOR A 75 DEGREE RIGHT HAND BEND IN THE ROAD. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO COLUMN SHIFT DOWN THROUGH THIRD, SECOND, AND THEN TO FIRST GEAR, TO SLOW DOWN. I WAS UNABLE TO GET TO EMERGENCY BRAKE. FORTUNATELY IT WAS ON A LIGHTLY TRAVELED ROAD AND THERE WAS NO ON COMING TRAFFIC AS I HAD TO VEER INTO THAT LANE TO MAKE THE TURN. I WAS ABLE TO HOBBLE HOME, WITH HAZARDS ON, BY DOWNSHIFTING TO SLOW DOWN. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE REAR BRAKE LINES HAD FAILED AND WERE REPLACED. INCIDENT #2 WHILE TRAVELING AT 30 MPH TRAVELING DOWN HILL A RACCOON RAN ACROSS THE ROAD. I APPLIED BRAKES IN A DEFENSIVE MANNER AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I AGAIN HAD TO COLUMN SHIFT THROUGH THIRD, SECOND, AND THEN HOBBLE DOWN HILL IN FIRST GEAR. I WAS UNABLE TO ENGAGE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I WAS ABLE TO HOBBLE HOME DOWN SHIFTING THROUGH THE GEARS. THE TRUCK WAS AGAIN TO SAME SHOP AND I HAD THEM REPLACE ALL BRAKE LINES. *TR
MY BRAKE LINES RUSTED AT THE REAR OF THE LT FRONT WHEEL SPLASH AREA. THIS VEHICLE HAS LOW MILES FOR THE YEAR AND WAS NOT DRIVEN IN SALT OR DEICE. THE BRAKE LINE SHOULD NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THIS TIME WITH SO MUCH SERVICE LIFE LEFT. I WAS LUCKY, THE BRAKE LINE BURST IN MY DRIVEWAY. *TR
THE GAUGES BEGAN TO SPIN AND NOT WORK PROPERLY OR NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. ALSO THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT FUNCTION WHEN THE GAUGES AND DASH LIGHTS FLASH OR REMAIN ON. THE ABS LIGHT BRAKE LIGHT AND THE BATTERY LIGHT AND THE SECURITY LIGHT ALL COME ON. ALSO ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER PROBLEMS WHEN ALL THIS HAPPENS THE HEADLIGHTS DIM THE FOURWHEEL DRIVE DOESN'T FUNCTION AND THE VOLUME LEVEL ON THE STEREO CHANGES. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 GMC SIERRA THAT HAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THE ABS OR BRAKE SYSTEM. THE BRAKE LIGHT, ABS LIGHT AND SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT GOES OFF AT RANDOM TIMES. MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING BECAUSE THE A/C DRAWS POWER FROM THE BATTERY AND I CAN SEE THAT A CERTAIN LEVEL THE INDICATORS GO OFF. MOST OF THE TIME THE LIGHTS CHIME AND BLINK WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKE BUT IT ALSO HAS HAPPENED WHEN JUST TURNED THE TRUCK ON. I'VE REPLACED THE ROTORS AND PADS TO STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM. I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S A GROUND OR SENSOR THAT IS FAILING. I'VE FOUND TSB FOR REGROUNDING, FAILING SENSORS, OR ECBM. STILL HAVEN'T FOUND THE CORRECT DIAGNOSIS. I JUST HOPE THE ABS FUNCTIONS WHEN I NEED IT. *TR
