BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND FAILED CAUSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOOR. *TR
I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, AND THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T STOP. I MANEUVERED PAST SEVERAL VEHICLES ALMOST STRIKING THEM. I WAS ABLE TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AFTER SOME DISTANCE PAST THE INTERSECTION. I AM A POLICE OFFICER WITH 25 YEARS ON THE JOB. I HAVE ATTENDING VARIOUS DRIVING COURSES RELATED TO MY PROFESSION. IF A LAY PERSON WAS IN THIS SITUATION A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. I BARELY ESCAPED THE ACCIDENT DUE IN PART TO TRAINING AND A LARGE AMOUNT OF LUCK. ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT THE VEHICLE HAD STOPPED NORMAL AT THREE PRIOR INTERSECTIONS WITHOUT GIVING ANY WARNING OF A POTENTIAL PROBLEM. I HAVE READ ON LINE THE THEORY ABOUT THE SALT CAUSING THE DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE LINES. I HAVE NEVER DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE IN THE SNOW SINCE IT IS A SPARE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS 72000 MILES A LARGE MAJORITY OF THOSE MILES DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY (SUMMER AND FALL). I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP IN 2004. THE COST TO REPAIR THE BRAKE LINES WAS $1,100 DOLLARS. A RECALL SHOULD BE MADE IN REGARDS TO THIS DEFECT BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. I HAD A MECHANIC SHOP REPAIR THE VEHICLE SINCE THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THEY HAD NO OTHER REPORTED FAILURES ON THIS VEHICLE. A QUICK LOOK ON VARIOUS WEBSITES SHOWED THAT TO BE A FALSE CLAIM. ANYONE DRIVING THESE TYPES OF VEHICLES PLEASE HAVE YOUR BRAKE LINES INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC. *TR
BRAKE LINE FAILURE AS AN EMERGENCY STOPPING PROCEDURE WAS IN PLACE. VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPPED, BUT REAR ENDED THE FORWARD VEHICLE. BRAKE LINE CORROSION IN HARD PIPING WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE PROBLEM AS THE HARD BRAKE LINE RUPTURED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CHANGED THE DISPLAY AND LANGUAGE INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000. *TR
RUSTY BRAKE LINES ON 2004 GMC 2500HD SIERRA. ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE BRAKE PETAL WENT TO THE FLOOR IMMEDIATELY WHEN THE BRAKE LINE BURST. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE OLD RUSTED BRAKE LINES IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE PICTURES. SINCE IT SEEMS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM ON GM PICKUP TRUCKS FROM RESEARCHING IT ON THE INTERNET, I'M CURIOUS TO KNOW WHEN THEY ARE GOING TO RECALL THEM? JUST SAW ON THE NEWS WHERE THERE IS A GOVERNMENT RECALL ON 2005-2009 SUBARU'S FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. IT COST $1290.00 TO REPAIR ALL THE BRAKE LINES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSED PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED TO OPERATE OR DISPLAY A SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
WHEN COMING TO A RED LIGHT I TRIED TO STOP MY TRUCK. UPON PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDDLE THE FIRST TIME I STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. UPON PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDDLE THE SECOND TIME, THE PEDDLE WHEN TO THE FLOOR AND DID NOT SLOW ME DOWN. I HAD TO RUN THE RED LIGHT AND US MY E BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN AND FINALLY STOP AT A GAS STATION. WHILE WAITING FOR AAA TO PICK ME UP NOTICED BRAKE FLUID COMING OUT FROM UNDER DRIVERS SIDE. TRUCK WAS TOWED TO MY SON'S HOUSE. AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE TRUCK HE TOLD ME THE BRAKE LINES FROM THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK HAD BROKEN. HE SUGGESTED WE REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES, WHICH WE DID. ALL THE ORIGINAL LINES WERE ROTTING AWAY. WHEN WE REMOVED THE BRAKE LINES THEY ALL BROKE INTO PIECES . WE REPLACED ALL THE ORIGINAL LINES WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES AT COST OF $400.00 PLUS I FOUND A FRONT AND A REAR CALIPERS FROZEN, SO I REPLACED ALL THE BRAKES AND CALIPERS. THERE IS NO WAY THE BRAKE LINES ON A 8 YEAR OLD TRUCK SHOULD BE FOUND IN THIS SHAPE. THE ORIGINAL LINES LOOKED LIKE ALUMINUM COATED STEEL. *TR
BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH. ALL BRAKE FLUID LEAKED OUT. NO BRAKE SYSTEM INCLUDING EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED. HAD TO STOP VEHICLE AGAINST CURB SYSTEM. *TR
I PICKED MY STEPDAUGHTER AT SCHOOL AND AT THE STOPLIGHT TO LEAVE THE SCHOOL THERE WERE NO BRAKES. I USED THE CURB TO SLOW THE TRUCK ENOUGH TO THE LIGHTS TO CHANGE. IT WAS NOT A BUSY TIME AND STUDENTS WERE NOT PRESENT OTHERWISE THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER. I DROVE THE TRUCK HOME WITH FLASHERS VERY SLOWLY HOME ON A BACK ROAD DOWNSHIFTING AND RELYING IN THE ALLISON TRANSMISSION. WHEN I REACHED HOME THE LIGHT CAME ON TO SERVICE BRAKES. THAT WAS OBVIOUS ALREADY. THIS IS A 1 TON DUALLY THAT USUALLY HAULS SKID LOADS, PAVING BRICKS, ETC. I COULD NOT IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THE BRAKE LINES BLEW DURING THIS TIME. THERE IS A SMALL RUSTED PIN SIZED WHOLE IN THE FRONT BRAKE LINE THAT RUNS ON TOP OF THE TRUCK FRAME. I STILL HAVE BRAKE FLUID IN THE RESERVOIR, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO STOP THE TRUCK. THERE WAS NOT WARNING AND THOSE LINES ARE TUCKED UP ON THE FRAME OUT OF SITE FOR INSPECTION. THIS INCIDENT WENT TO FINE TO DISASTER IMMEDIATELY. WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THIS VEHICLE WERE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH AND NEEDED TO STOP? THIS IS FATALITY WAITING TO HAPPEN. THIS SIZE OF TRUCK WOULD HAVE KILLED ME AND ANYONE I WOULD HAVE HIT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. SHAME ON YOU GMC. BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED 4 YEARS AGO. EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS REPAIRED BY GMC CERTIFIED SHOP ALSO 4 YEARS AGO DUE TO FACT THE VACUUM PLATE RUSTED OFF. THEY DID NOT INFORM ME OF ANY ISSUES OF BRAKE LINES RUSTING LIKE THIS OTHERWISE THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED! *TR
WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY DRIVER PRESSED BRAKE PEDAL WHICH SANK ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH APPROX 5 PERCENT BRAKING POWER. DRIVER LIFTED OFF AND REAPPLIED THE BRAKES IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIX PROBLEM AT THIS POINT A DASH LIGHT AND ALARM ILLUMINATED TO WARN OF BRAKE ISSUES; BRAKING POWER WAS STILL ONLY 5 PERCENT. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO STOP BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED BUT ONLY BECAUSE OF LIGHT TRAFFIC AND PLENTY OF RUN OFF AREA. UPON INSPECTION OF VEHICLE IT WAS EVIDENT THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD CORRODED AND RUPTURED UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WHERE 6 BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACES DUE TO CORROSION. VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN IN NORTHERN WINTERS AND HAS NOT BEEN ON ANY BEACHES. *TR
APPROACHING A STOP. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED ALMOST COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND STOPPING WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WHICH RUN ALONG THE FRAME BEHIND THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL HAD CORRODED TO THE POINT WHERE ONE OF THE LINES FAILED AND BLEW OPEN. THE LINES ARE CLAMPED AGAINST THE FRAME IN THIS LOCATION, AND ALL THE 4 LINES AT THE BRACKET APPEAR EXTREMELY CORRODED. *TR
COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE, WHEN BRAKE LINE BLEW OUT WHILE TRYING TO STOP. PRIOR TO HITTING CAR IN FRONT, SWERVED INTO LEFT TURN LANE AND APPLIED EMERGENCY BRAKE. *TR
DIESEL FUEL LEAKS FROM INJECTORS INTO ENGINE OIL PAN AND CONTAMINATES ENGINE OIL THEM LEAKS OIL FROM BREATHER & REAR MAIN OIL SEAL AND GM KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT WONT DO ANY THING FOR THIS PROBLEM SAID ITS OUT WARRANTY ON TIME NOT MILES. *TR
I WAS APPROACHING A ONE LANE COVERED BRIDGE ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK AND ANOTHER APPROACHING VEHICLE FAILED TO YIELD. I MADE AN EMERGENCY STOP BY PRESSING FIRMLY ON THE BRAKES. BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO QUICKLY USE MY FOOT OPERATED EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE TO STOP FROM HAVING A HEAD ON COLLISION. I HAD TO PAY CLOSE TO $1200 TO HAVE THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM REPLACED DUE TO SEVERE RUST OF THE BRAKE LINES. I AM VERY FORTUNATE THAT THIS TURNED OUT THE WAY IT DID. MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF OTHERS ARE BEING ENDANGERED BY GM NOT USING A MATERIAL THAT IS RESISTANT TO CORROSION. *TR
BRAKE LINES ALL ROTTED AWAY NEAR ABS MODULE MOUNTED IN FRAME. I HAD TO TAKE TO A SHOP TO GET ALL LINE REPLACE FROM ABS MODULE FORWARD. THIS TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN NEAR SALT EVER. 100,000 MILES AND ALREADY RELINING THE TRUCK! FUEL LINES LOOK LIKE THEY ONLY HAVE A FEW MONTHS LEFT. THIS IS A DANGER AND A HUGE WASTE OF MONEY FOR A BUYER I HAVE HAD OTHER GM CARS THAT ARE 30 YEARS OLD WITH 350,000 MILES WITH FACTORY BRAKE AND FUEL LINES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC CK2500 HD EQUIPPED WITH COOPER DEAN MUD TERRAIN RADIAL SXT TIRES, SIZE LT265/75R16. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THERE WAS A HEAVY VIBRATION FELT WITHIN THE VEHICLE AS THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE EXPLODED. THE VEHICLE BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE AND VEERED FROM THE RIGHT LANE TO THE CENTER MEDIAN BEFORE STOPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE OF THE TIRE WAS 17,000. UPDATED 10/22/12 *BF UPDATED 10/22/12. *JB
LEAVING WORK I PULLED OUT FROM THE PARKING LOT AND DROVE ABOUT 500 YARDS. WENT TO APPLY BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT BACK TO MY WORK PARKING LOT AND STOPPED THE TRUCK. NOTICED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS POURING FROM UNDER THE TRUCK IN TWO PLACES. ONE LEAK WAS UNDER THE DRIVERS AREA AND THE OTHER WAS IN FRONT OF THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. THE PLACE I WORK HAS A CAR LIFT. PUT THE TRUCK ON THE LIFT AND THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED THROUGH. THE TRUCK HAS ENORMOUS AMOUNTS OF RUST ON THE FRAME, SUSPENSION, AND AXLES. THIS TRUCK IS NOT MY DAILY DRIVER. I DO NOT LIVE NEAR THE OCEAN NOR DO I PUSH SNOW WITH IT. I HAVE NEVER SEEN BRAKE LINES RUST OUT LIKE THIS. GM STATED THAT I HAD TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. AFTER READING UP ON THE TOPIC I KNOW GM WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE LINES. I ALREADY ORDERED STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINES FOR THE TRUCK AND WILL INSTALL THEM. HOPEFULLY GM WILL REIMBURSE OWNER FOR THIS EXPENSE. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES ON MY TRUCK ROTTED OFF AND IT COST OVER A GRAND TO FIX THEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
WHILE COMING TO AN INTERSECTION THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE PEDAL BECAME SOFT AND WHEN TO THE FLOOR, WITHOUT SLOWING THE VEHICLE DOWN. THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THE EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE WAS APPLIED IMMEDIATELY IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WENT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED DUE TO CORROSION (RUST) ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR LINE. THE OTHER THREE LINES WERE IN A SIMILAR STATE AND HAD THE POTENTIAL TO FAIL AT ANY TIME. THERE WAS NO INDICATION ON THE MESSAGE CENTER THAT THERE WAS EVER INADEQUATE PRESSURE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITH THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM EVEN WHEN IT WAS STEERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK. *TR
AT THE ABOVE LISTED DATE MY VEHICLE BEGAN BLOWING EXCESSIVE BLUE SMOKE THROUGH THE EXHAUST. I DISCOVERED AT THAT TIME THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE FUEL INJECTORS SEVERAL YEARS BEFORE. I ATTEMPTED TO REMEDY THIS WITH GM AT THAT TIME AND WAS TOLD I WAS TOO LATE PAST THE DATE TO GET SERVICE ON THE RECALL. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF A RECALL AND WOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF IT AT THAT TIME. IT CONTINUES TO BLOW EXCESSIVE SMOKE BUT ONLY AT IDLE. I WISH TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CORRECTED AS IT IS HURTING THE ENVIRONMENT. I WAS GIVEN A PRICE AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT CORRECTED AS THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE PROBLEM. *TR
ON HIGHWAY MULTI-LANE, HEAVY TRAFFIC AHEAD, SUDDENLY SLOWED AND A LOT OF LANE CHANGING GOING ON AS SOME DEBRIS WAS EJECTED FROM TRUCK ONTO ROADWAY. APPLIED BRAKES, APPLICATION HAD LITTLE EFFECT. STOOD ON THE BRAKES, BUTT OUT OF THE SEAT STANDING ON THE BRAKES, TRUCK VEERED OFF TO RIGHT SEVERELY WHILE ANT LOCK PULSED. FORTUNATELY TRAFFIC GOT OUT OF THE WAY AND ESCAPED HARM. EXITED HIGHWAY INSPECTED VEHICLE. UPON EXITING THE TRUCK FOUND PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON GROUND UNDER DRIVER'S SEAT. BRAKE LINES LEAKING. SEVER RUST THROUGHOUT THE BRAKE SYSTEM. REPLACEMENT OF ALL BRAKE LINES REQUIRED. THIS WAS VERY CLOSE TO CRASH, ONLY THE RAPID REFLEXES OF THE GUY NEXT TO ME AVERTED AN ACCIDENT. NOTE, REPAIR SHOP TELLS ME THAT (AND HAS SHOWN ME) ALL THE BRAKE LINES MUST BE REPLACED. AS THE LINES ENTER A DISTRIBUTION BOX ( ANTI-LOCK ANTI-SKID UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT) AND THE CLAMPING DEVICES ALL HAD SIGNIFICANT RUST TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. *TR
I LEFT MY HOUSE FOR WORK AND APPROX. 3 BLOCKS FROM MY HOUSE I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN. I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I HAD NO BRAKES. AT THIS TIME AND THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME, THE BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON. I WAS DRIVING AT 30 MPH WITH NO BRAKES, I COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT AND USED THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK. OUTSIDE AND UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR OF THE 2004 SIERRA EXTENDED CAB THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID LEAKING. THE 8 YEAR OLD TRUCK HAD RUSTED BRAKE LINES THAT FAILED. MY CONCERN IS THAT I LOST ALL BRAKES WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH I NOTICED MANY OF THESE TRUCKS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY ARE 5000 POUND TORPEDOS ON THE ROAD AND WITHOUT WARNING. WILL SOMETHING BE DONE BEFORE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OCCURS? I TRIED CONTACTING GMC VIA THEIR WEBSITE E-MAIL BUT AN ERROR MESSAGE OCCURRED. TRY A COMPLAINT ON THEIR SITE.....IT DON'T WORK!!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE DETERIORATING AND THE MATERIAL WAS RUSTED. AS A RESULT, BRAKE FLUID WS CONSTANTLY LEAKING AND THE BRAKES HAD BECOME HARD TO ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR A PRIVATE MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BROKE OFF CAUSING THE DRIVERS SIDE HEAT SHIELD TO FALL AND JAM UNDER THE STEERING LINKAGE. THIS CAUSED ME TO ALMOST DRIVE OFF THE ROAD. I HAD TO FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET THE VEHICLE TO TURN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND AFTER A FEW MINUTE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE BUT THE FRONT WHEEL WAS LOCKED AND SMOKE WAS EMITTING FROM THE HUBCAPS. AFTER A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF TIME THE WHEELS UNLOCKED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE SEAL IN THE BOOST HAD LEAKED AND CONTAMINATED BRAKE FLUID AND LOCKED UP THE SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,894. UPDATED 12/19/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE TRAVELING 40MPH THE VEHICLE STARED LOSING POWER. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THE BRAKES WERE SMOKING. I WAS LEAVING MY DRIVEWAY AND COMPLETELY LOST ALL BRAKES AND COULD NOT STOP. I HAD TO SLAM ON THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP. A BRAKE LINE BLEW. ALL THE BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES ARE COMPLETELY ROTTED.THIS VEHICLE ISN'T EVEN 10 YEARS OLD YET. THE FUEL LINE AND BRAKE LINES ARE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THIS TRUCK IS A 2500 AND I USE IT FOR TOWING TRAILERS IF THAT BRAKE LINE WENT WHILE TOWING IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. THE ENTIRE UNDERNEATH OF THIS TRUCK IS SO RUSTED THE FRAME BRAKE LINE AND FUEL LINES ARE TERRIBLE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED FROM GM'S CHEAP STEEL. *TR

VEHICLE WOULD STALL AND EVENTUALLY SHUT OFF, REGARDLESS OF TYPE OF ROAD, I.E.HIGHWAY OR CITY STREETS, AND REGARDLESS OF THE SPEED. *TR
I WAS COMING DOWN A HILL NEAR MY HOME & TAPPED ON THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. SUDDENLY ALARM BELLS STARTED DINGING, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON & "SERVICE BRAKES IMMEDIATELY" POPPED UP ON THE MESSAGE CENTER. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SLIGHTLY SOFTER THAN NORMAL BUT I MADE IT HOME OK. THE FOLLOWING DAY I TOOK THE TRUCK TO MY MECHANIC TO HAVE HIM CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM. MUCH THE SAME AS MANY OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT, ALL FOUR BRAKE LINES BETWEEN THE MASTER CYLINDER & THE ABS CONTROLLER WERE BADLY RUSTED OUT WHILE ONE HAD FAILED COMPLETELY (CAUSING THE ALERT/ALARM). THE LINES FROM THE ABS CONTROLLER TO THE INDIVIDUAL WHEELS ARE ALSO COMPLETELY RUSTED BUT AS OF NOW HAVEN'T FAILED. HE REPLACED THE ONE RUPTURED LINE & SUGGESTED THAT I HAVE THE OTHERS DONE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS THEY ALL LOOK VERY BAD. LOOKING AT THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE THERE WAS VERY LITTLE OVERALL RUST ON ANY OTHER COMPONENTS OR THE FRAME, JUST ON THE BRAKE LINES. ESTIMATED COST FOR REPLACING ALL THE LINES AS NEEDED - $800. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED AND HE WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT SPEED HE WAS TRAVELING, HOW MUCH FUEL WAS IN THE VEHICLE, ETC. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR INSPECTION WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE CLUSTER WIRING FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED HOWEVER, THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,000.

BOTH FRONT HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES CORRODED ON DRIVERS SIDE, WITH LOSS OF BRAKING, ON CHASSIS TOP REAR OF FRONT WHEEL. IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS A LARGE WIRING LOOM (1 1/2" O.D.) CLIPPED ON TOP OF HYDRAULIC LINES, ONE TO LF AND RF WHEELS. CORROSION ON BOTH LINES ARE AT THE CONTACT OF THE LOOM AND LINES. VIBRATION MAY HAVE CAUSED THE LOOM AND LINES TO RUB AND ALLOWED MOISTURE TO CORRODE THE BRAKE LINES. *TR

THE MANUAL SHIFT ON THE FLY SYSTEM (MSOF) WITH NEW VENTURE GEARS AUTOMATIC TRANSFER CASE IS DEFECTIVELY DESIGNED. A METAL ANTI-RATTLE CLIP WORKS IT WAY THROUGH THE CASE HOUSING, CAUSING ALL FLUID TO LEAK OUT OF THE TRANSFER CASE. THE CLUTCHES THEN BURN OUT RENDERING THE TRANSFER CASE USELESS. THE RESULT IS NO 4 WHEEL DRIVE (NO POWER TO FRONT WHEELS) WHEN SHIFT ON THE FLY IS PRESSED, LEAVING DRIVER SLIDING ON SNOW OR ICE--WHICH HAPPENED TO ME IN A NEAR WRECK. I RECOVERED FROM THE SLIDE AND GOT THE VEHICLE HOME AND THEN TO A REPAIR SHOP (ONCE THE SNOW MELTED) FOR A NEW TRANSFER CASE (REPAIR ONGOING). DRIVERS MAY RELY ON THE 4WD IN INCLEMENT WEATHER TO CERTAIN CONDITIONS AND BE INJURED WHEN THE 4WD DOES NOT ENGAGE DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE TRANSFER CASE. ALSO THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK, AND WHEN IT DOES START WORKING IT IS NEVER THE CORRECT READING. IT WILL STICK AS HIGH AS 70 MPH, AND TO BRING IT DOWN I HAVE TO KEEP RESTARTING AND SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE. *TR

I TOLD THE DUMP ATTENDANT WHAT JUST HAPPENED AND HE SAID, "THAT'S PROBABLY WHY YOU'RE SPEWING WHAT LOOKS LIKE BRAKE FLUID FROM YOUR LEFT REAR. SURE ENOUGH, UPON INSPECTION THE LINE BLEW. I GOT THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL GMC DEALER. LONG STORY SHORT, THEY WANTED $360 TO FIX THE BRAKE LINE. [XXX] THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT LOOKS LIKE THE REST OF THE LINES DON'T HAVE MUCH TIME LEFT EITHER. "NOT GOOD!" I GOT THE VEHICLE HOME, CALLED MY SON WHO IS A MECHANIC FOR A LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND HE FIXED THE LAST FOOT OR SO OF THE BRAKE LINE WHERE IT BLEW. HE SAID "DAD COME HERE". HE SHOWED ME UNDER THE HOOD WHERE THE VISIBLE BRAKE LINES ARE VIRTUALLY ROTTED AND PROBABLY READY TO GO. I AM PARTIALLY DISABLED AND OUT OF WORK. I COULDN'T AFFORD TO HAVE THE DEALER REPLACE THE WHOLE BRAKE LINE LET ALONE NOW HAVING TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES! I SAW ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL ON THIS? IF I WERE SOMEWHERE ELSE GOING EVEN FASTER, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN BAD. WHY ARE THE CAR COMPANIES NOT REQUIRED TO USE HIGHER QUALITY/MORE CORROSIVE RESISTANT LINES?
