TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CONTACT RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BUT THE SPEEDOMETER DIAL REMAINED AT 40 MPH. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE SPEEDOMETER DIAL INCREASED TO APPROXIMATELY 100 MPH. THE DEALER ADVISED HER TO BRING THEM THE VEHICLE FOR REPAIRS, ESTIMATED AT OVER $500. NO REPAIRS HAVE YET BEEN MADE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2004 GMC SIERRA HAS BEEN SPORADICALLY WORKING. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING IT AND HAVE REALIZED THAT IT'S NOT ONLY MY PROBLEM BUT A PROBLEM WITH GMC'S AND CHEVY'S AND I THINK THAT SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT SPEED I'M GOING WHEN I'M TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD. IT SAYS 20 BUT I COULD BE DOING 80 FOR ALL I KNOW. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS DOES IT TAKE FOR YOU TO MAKE A RECALL? *TR
I HAD PURCHASED MY SIERRA 1500 FROM CHESROWN DEALERSHIP OF DELAWARE OHIO. I HAD THE TRUCK FOR LESS THAN 60 DAYS. I LOVED THE TRUCK VERY MUCH BUT WAS VERY UPSET WHEN AN ELECTRICAL FIRE STARTED IN UNDER MY HOOD. THIS HAPPENED THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING AND SINCE I HAD THE FACTORY STEREO SYSTEM I HAD NO EXPLANATION FOR THE START OF THE FIRE. IT TOOK THE FIRE DEPARTMENT A COUPLE OF MINUTES TO GET THERE AND BY THAT TIME THE FIRE HAD SPREAD FROM THE ENGINE THROUGHOUT THE WIRES DOWN THE FIREWALL AND INTO MY TRUCKS ENTIRER. ALL THAT I COULD DO WAS WATCH IN HORROR AS MY TRUCK WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES FROM A FAR. I ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE FIRE FROM SPREADING INSIDE AND MY HAND WAS BURNT. WHEN THE POLICE USED THE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER FROM THEIR CRUISER IT SEEMED TO GIVE IT OXYGEN AND SPREAD IT FASTER. I WAS DEVASTATED. *TR
SPEEDOMETER SUFFERS ERRATIC OPERATION. I HAVE OF A PICTURE OF THE SPEEDOMETER REGISTERING 90 MPH WHILE IDLING IN THE DRIVE WAY. AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE SPEEDOMETER IS "OFF THE SCALE." *TR
2004 SIERRA 1500 WITH 31,000 MILES IT DEVELOPED A KNOCK NOISE EVERTIME I DROVE OVER A MILD BUMP. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE STEERING SHAFT. THEY REPLACED IT AT NO CHARGE AND TOOK ABOUT AND HOUR. *TR VERY GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH THIS DEALER.
SPEEDOMETER STICKS AND GIVES FALSE READINGS. *TR
MY 2004 GMC SIERRA SPEEDOMETER STARTED ACTING UP. SHOWING MORE THAN 20 MPH OVER ACTUAL RATE OF SPEED AND STUCK AT HIGHER THAN ZERO WHEN NOT DRIVING. I FEEL IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT OF THIS DEFECTIVE PART WHEN I HAVE ONLY 20,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. YES ONLY 20K! I DRIVE IT INFREQUENTLY BUT I AM OUT OF MY 3YR WARRANTY. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT GM NEEDS TO ADDRESS! *JB
REFERENCE A GMC 2004 SIERRA 3500 4 WHEEL DRIVE PICK UP TRUCK, 6.6L DIESEL ENGINE WITH 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE MOLDED RUBBER AROUND THE DRIVELINE CENTER SUPPORT CARRIER BEARING (PART # 12472424) DRY ROTTED CAUSING DRIVELINE VIBRATION THAT, IN TURN CAUSED THE TRANSFER CASE TO FAIL. THE VIBRATION WAS SLIGHT AND NOT CONSTANT, NOT INDICATING A MAJOR PROBLEM. THE PART IN QUESTION IS A NON-SERVICEABLE PART, PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE DID NOT AND WOULD NOT PREVENT THIS FAILURE. THE TRANSFER CASE WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED AND WAS ON THE VERGE OF TOTAL LOCK UP WHICH WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE REAR WHEELS TO LOCK UP UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE COST TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IS OVER $3000 DOLLARS TO HAVE THE DEALER DO THE REPAIRS. SINCE I AM A COMPETENT MECHANIC, I INSPECTED AND FOUND THIS PROBLEM WHEN I FIRST NOTICED A SLIGHT VIBRATION, MOST VEHICLE OWNERS WOULD HAVE DRIVEN THE TRUCK UNTIL THE WHEELS LOCKED UP POSSIBLY CAUSING A LIFE THREATENING CRASH. THE PART IN QUESTION IS WITHOUT A DOUBT A DEFECTIVE PART. IT IS MADE IN CHINA. WHILE MANY PARTS COMING FROM CHINA TODAY ARE OF SUFFICIENT QUALITY, CHINESE RUBBER IS SUBSTANDARD AND DRY ROTS IN ABOUT TWO YEARS UNDER MOST CIRCUMSTANCES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH AND APPROACHING A STOP, THE SPEEDOMETER CONTINUED TO DISPLAY THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 65 MPH. AFTER RESUMING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED 75 MPH. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE SPEEDOMETER WENT FROM 70 - 140 MPH BEFORE HE RESUMED DRIVING. THE SPEEDOMETER REMAINED THERE AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND HAS NOT CHANGED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN DIAGNOSED. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 62,000.

2004 GMC 2500 HD. PURCHASED MY TRUCK IN FALL OF 2003. MY SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY. TRUCK ONLY HAS 45K MILES. DEALERSHIP ADVISED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL WAS BAD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NEW PART IS @ $210.00 PLUS LABOR. THE SEAL ON MY RIGHT FRONT AXLE IS ALSO STARTING TO LEAK. *TR
I HAVE HAD TWO OCCURRENCES WHERE THE SPEEDOMETER STICKS AND/OR REGISTERS SPEEDS DIFFERENT FROM WHAT IS BEING DRIVEN. IN THE LATEST INSTANCE, WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE IT STARTED FLUCTUATING TO WHERE IT WAS REGISTERING 120 MPH. WHEN I STOPPED AT A TRUCK STOP AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF IT WAS STILL REGISTERING 40 MPH. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN. I THOUGHT POSSIBLY THE RAIN MAY HAVE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT IF MOISTURE HAD GOTTEN IN TO THE ELECTRONICS SOMEWHERE. AFTER A FEW DAYS IT STARTED WORKING NORMALLY AGAIN UNTIL LAST NIGHT. *TR
A 1200 LB ELK JUMPED IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING ME TO SWERVE AND ROLL THE VEHICLE END OVER END. THE AIRBAG(S) NEVER DEPLOYED IN EITHER THE DRIVER OR PASSENGER SIDES OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT SPEED LIMIT OF 75 MPH ON RURAL FREEWAY WHEN RIGHT REAR TIRE SEPARATED AND BLEW. THERE WAS NOTHING THE DRIVER HIT OR RAN OVER. IT JUST BLEW OUT ALMOST CAUSING A VERY BAD ACCIDENT. *JB
I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY SPEEDOMETER. EVERY DAY AFTER DRIVING IT FOR 30 +/- MILES THE SPEEDOMETER STOPS. SOMETIMES AT 50 SOMETIMES AT 0 MPH. ONCE I BEGIN TO DRIVE IT WILL SOMETIMES GO FROM 50 TO 100 OR IT WILL STAY WHERE IT STOPPED. THIS STARTED ABOUT 18 MONTHS AGO BUT IT ONLY HAPPENED ONCE EVERY COUPLE MONTHS. NOW IT HAPPENS DAILY. I HAVE LEARNED THAT AFTER LEAVING IT SET FOR A FEW HOURS I START IT UP, PUT IT INTO DRIVE AND TURN IT OFF. WITH THE GEARSHIFT IN DRIVE I TRY STARTING IT AND EACH TIME I TURN THE KEY THE SPEEDOMETER GOES FROM 50 TO 40 TO 30 AND THEN BACK TO 0. ONCE AT ZERO I START THE TRUCK AND THE SPEEDOMETER WILL BE ACCURATE FOR AT LEAST 30+/- MILES. *TR
REDUCED ENGINE POWER, THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 7 TIMES. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN TO 1500 RPMS MAXIMUM. TOOK TO DEALER, THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY VALVE AND ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. THIS PART WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $481. WITHIN TWO WEEKS THE SAME PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TWICE MORE. THIS IS DANGEROUS WHEN TRAVELING IN TRAFFIC. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT ALWAYS ZERO OUT AFTER THE VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP AND THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE GOES TO ZERO WHILE DRIVING. *TR

WHEN RETURNING FROM A TRIP, THE TRUCK WAS SHUT OFF AND THE IGNITION KEY WAS REMOVED. THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO RUN, FLASHED CODE P0758, CHECK 4WD, CHECK BRAKES, ABS FAILURE. THE TRUCK DID THIS FOR TWO DAYS WHILE DRIVING HOME AND WOULD STAY RUNNING WITHOUT THE KEY FROM 2 TO 16 MINUTES AND COULD BE PUT INTO GEAR AND DRIVEN, ALL WITHOUT THE KEY. *JB
SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING PROPERLY. READS 35 MPH WHEN STOPPED/NOT RUNNING AND 40-50 MPH HIGHER THAN ACTUAL SPEED WHEN DRIVING. *TR
2004 GMC SIERRA TRUCK SPEEDOMETER READS OVER 120MPH WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND READS 30 TO 60MPH WHEN STOPPED. REPEATED STARTING AND TURNING OFF ENGINE RESETS THE SPEEDOMETER TO 0 WHEN STOPPED, BUT ONLY FOR A SHORT TIME. IT JUMPS BACK UP TO OVER 120MPH WHEN DRIVING AGAIN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE SPEEDOMETER STUCK AT 60 MPH AND WOULD NOT RETURN TO ZERO. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS RESTARTED AND DRIVEN THE SPEEDOMETER WENT AROUND PAST THE 120 MPH ON THE GAUGE. I DID GET THE SPEEDOMETER BACK TO ZERO BY STARTING AND THEN TURNING THE IGNITION OFF QUICKLY. I CONTINUED TO DO THESE BECAUSE THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD FALL APROX 5 MPH EVERY TIME THAT I DID THIS. IT TOOK ABOUT 12 TIMES TO GET IT DOWN TO ZERO. THIS IS THE FIRST PROBLEM THAT I HAVE ENCOUNTERED WITH MY 2004 GMC. I HAVE ABOUT 29000 MILES ON THIS TRUCK. *JB
I ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE ACTUATOR REPLACED ON MY GMC 2004 TRUCK. IT WAS BLOWING HOT WHEN THE A/C WAS ON AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN COOLING. IT WAS NOT CHEAP EITHER, IT ALSO HAD TO BE RECALIBRATED IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. I DIDN'T EXPECT THAT TO HAPPEN TO A NEW VEHICLE. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 GMC 2500HD AND THE SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER IS ALL FAILING SO NO GAUGES ARE STARTING TO WORK. *JB

SPEEDOMETER HAS FAILED. DOES NOT RECORD SPEED ACCURATELY - SIGNIFICANT VARIATION (30 MPH OR MORE) FOR 10-15 MINUTES, THEN DROPS TO ZERO.
VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 20,000 MILES WHEN RIGHT REAR BRAKE DISC WORE COMPLETELY OUT. HAD TO REPLACE AGAIN AT 40,000 MILES. THIS ONLY AFFECTS THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE. TRUCK HAS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND PARKING BRAKE HAS NEVER BEEN USED, AND IS COMPLETELY WORN OUT. I KNOW THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON MANUAL TRANS MISSION, BUT SEEMS THERE IS ALSO A PROBLEM ON THE AUTOMATIC. *TR
KNOCKING IN THE STEERING SHAFT ASSEMBLY BEGAN AT 20,000 MILES. STEERING SHAFT HAS TO BE GREASED BY SERVICE CENTER EVERY 10K MILES TO PREVENT KNOCKING. SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, AND ENGINE TEMPERATURE GAUGES STOPPED WORKING. SPEEDOMETER USED TO REGISTER MAX MPH WHEN DOING 70MPH THEN STOPPED WORKING AT ALL. *TR

2004 GMC SIERRA 2500 SPEEDOMETER FAILURE AT 49K MILES: SPEEDOMETER "OFFSET" IS HIGH AND RENDERS SPEEDOMETER UNUSABLE (READS 70 WHEN TRAVELING 0 MPH AND PEGS OUT AT > 120MPH WHEN TRAVELLING NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THEN FAILS PEGGED, AND IS INOPERATIVE).
MY VEHICLE HAD BRAKE LINES REPLACE TWO TIMES WITH LESS THAN 65,000 MILES BECAUSE BREAKS STOP WORKING. FUEL LINE REPLACED UNDER 55,000 MILES BECAUSE IT MADE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON SPEEDOMETER ERRATIC,OIL PRESSURE GAUGE HIGH AND LOW,FUEL GAUGE ERRATIC UNDER 65,000 MILES. LOUD NOISE FROM ENGINE SERVICE TECHNICIAN REPORTED THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS HAS BROKEN TO CALL A WHITE SMOKE FROM THE MOTOR. EVERYTHING HAPPENED WITH CONSIDER TO BE LOW MILEAGE IN TALKING TO GM THEY DON'T CARE BECAUSE ENOUGH REPORT HAS NOT BEEN MADE.
TACHOMETER GAUGE RIDES ALL OVER, HAD TRANSMISSION CHECKED, OKAY. HAD A SCAN DONE, NO ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION CODES, OVERDRIVE DOES NOT RELEASE WHEN TACHOMETER GAUGE IS ERRATIC, ON SCAN, RPM IS NORMAL AT ABOUT 700, WHILE TACHOMETER SHOWS APPRXIMATELY 3750 RPM.BEING TOLD BY CHEVROLET DEALER PERHAPS A DASHBOARD CLUSTER PANEL. ABOUT $400.00. THIS TRUCK ONLY HAS 48,000 MILES ON IT.*AK
SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING AT TIMES, GETS STUCK AROUND 70MPH WHILE DRIVING SOMETIMES AT OTHER SPEEDS. WHEN THE TRUCK IS TURNED OFF IT DOES NOT GO TO ZERO INSTEAD IT GOES TO 20-40MPH AND THEN I GUESS IT THINKS THAT'S WHERE ZERO STARTS. TRUCK ONLY HAD 42,000 MILES WHEN THESE PROBLEMS STARTED AND IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. THE TRUCK IS A 2004 GMC SIERRA Z71 ALMOST NEW. SOMETIMES I DON'T KNOW HOW FAST I'M GOING WHEN THIS HAPPENS. *TR

THE SPEEDOMETER HAS STOPPED WORKING CORRECTLY, AFTER DOING A LITTLE BIT OF RESEARCH THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY CHEVEROLET FULL SIZE VEHICLES. THIS WAS VERY OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. FOR EXAMPLE WHEN SITTING AT A STOP SIGN THE SPEEDOMETER WAS READING 35-40 MPH, AND WAS EITHER STUCK OR READ COMPLETLY INCORRECT.*AK

WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS AT A STOP THE SPEEDOMETER READ THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT 120 MPH. WHILE DRIVING THE SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT REGISTERING THE SPEED CORRECTLY. THE CONTACT WOULD KEEP UP WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC TO TRY TO GAGE THE VEHICLES SPEED. THE CONTACT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE SPEEDOMETER MOTOR. MY 2004 SIERRA'S SPEEDOMETER DOESNT REGISTER SPEED PROPERLY. SOMETIMES IT STICKS AT ONE SPEED LIKE 60 OR 70 REGARDLESS OF SPEED, OR WILL REST AT A NUMBER WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOTIONLESS AND PROCEED UPWARD AS THE VEHICLE INCREASES SPEED. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE. SOMETIMES IT WORKS FOR A WHILE IF I CAN GET IT TO FALL BACK TO ZERO, BUT THAT DOESNT LAST LONG. IT EVENTUALLY QUITS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY.
I AM EXPERIENCING THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT IS DESCRIBED REGARDING THE RECALL OF GMC LIGHT TRUCKS FOR ABS ACTIVATION AT SLOW SPEEDS DUE TO CORROSION OF THE HUB AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY. I HAVE A 2004 GMC SIERRA DENALI WHICH, ACCORDING TO GMC, IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE MASSIVE RECALL PROMPTED BY YOUR INVESTIGATION. MY ISSUE, AS DESCRIBED BY THE DEALER, IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE ISSUE AND REASON FOR RECALLING THOSE OTHER VEHICLES. *JB
WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR FAILURE. THE WIPERS KEPT OPERATING AT LOW SPEED WITH THE SWITCH POSITION BEING IRRELEVANT. ONLY 44500 MI. ON THE VEHICLE. SINCE, THE MOTOR CONTROL MODULE IS NOT AVAILABLE SEPARATELY THE COMPLETE MOTOR ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED. *JB
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT ANY TIME HE DRIVES HIS 2004 GMC SIERRA (80000 FAILURE MILEAGE) HIS SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT REGISTER THE CORRECT SPEED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SITTING IDLE IN A PARKING LOT IT REGISTERS 55 MPH. THE CONTACT HAD AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER 3/20/2007 TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81000.
I HAVE AN 04 GMC SIERRA WITH ABOUT 80,000 MILES ON IT NOW, I BOUGHT THE TRUCK WITH 70,000 AND AT ABOUT 73,000 MILES THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED STICKING. I WOULD BE DOING 65 AND THEN I WOULD COME TO A STOP THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD NOT GO BACK DOWN. SO I STARTED MY TRUCK REPEATEDLY UNTIL THE NEEDLE WENT BACK DOWN TO 0. ABOUT A WEEK LATER IT DID IT AGAIN, AND AGAIN THE NEXT WEEK, AND NOW THIS HAS BEEN THE 4TH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED AND IT WILL NO LONGER WORK. I READ IN ONE FORUM THAT THERE WAS SUPPOSEDLY A RECALL ABOUT IT BUT I LOOKED ONLINE ALL OVER THE PLACE AND FOUND NOTHING. THIS SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A RECALL BECAUSE THIS SEEMS LIKE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT IS NOT VERY CHEAP TO FIX (550.00 PLUS 150.00 FOR PROGRAMMING) AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP.
