SPEEDOMETER SHOWS INCORRECT READINGS. AT TIMES IT WILL SHOW OVER 100MPH WHILE AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS. OTHER TIMES IT WILL READ AROUND 60 WHILE DRIVING AT LEAST 80 -90 (FROM RATE OF PASSING OTHER DRIVERS ON HIGHWAY). THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. APPARENTLY GM WILL REPAIR AT NO COST BUT ONLY IF LESS THAN 70K MILES. THIS VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHOW PROBLEM AROUND 74K MILES. *TR
PASSENGER FRONT SEAT BELT LOCKS WHERE PASSENGER IS NOT ABLE TO MOVE AT ALL. THE OTHER SEAT BELTS DO NOT DO THIS. DUE TO LAW WITH USING SEAT BELTS AT ALL TIMES THIS IS A PROBLEM IS AN ACCIDENT HAPPENS. PLUS, PASSENGER IS UNCOMFORTABLE WHEN TRAVELING LONG DISTANCES BEING STUCK IN ON POSITION AND NOT BEING ABLE TO MOVE AT ALL. *NM
CLUNKING NOISE IN STEERING COMPONENTS WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE WITH SUSPENSION MOVEMENT (CROWN OF ROAD, UN-LEVEL SURFACE). CLUNKING FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL. DEALER STATED, INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT PROBLEM. MANY LIKE REPORTED PROBLEMS TO DEALER AND ON THE INTERNET. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. THE WARNING INDICATORS WERE THAT THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED FASTER SPEEDS THAN WHAT WAS ACTUALLY BEING DRIVEN. AS A RESULT, THE ALTERNATOR GAUGE HAS FAILED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD OVER 75,000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER SENT THE CONTACT A LETTER THAT STATED THEY WERE AWARE OF THE DEFECT; HOWEVER, NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COSTS WOULD BE $425. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 114,000. UPDATED 5/6/08 *CN UPDATED 05/06/08 *TR
WHEN SLOWING USING THE BRAKE SYSTEM, THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY LOSES BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS FOR A SHORT TIME (LESS THAN 1 SECOND) JUST BEFORE THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY STOPS- AT ABOUT 3 TO 5 MPH. THE IS THEN A PULSING FEEL IN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE THEN STOPS. THE POINT IS THAT THERE IS ACTUALLY A MOMENTARY LOSS OF BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS IN THE LAST FEW MOMENTS OF A NORMAL STOP. FORTUNATELY, THEM, ONLY "LOW SPEEDS" ARE INVOLVED; UNFORTUNATELY, THIS IS VERY UNSETTLING WHEN STOPPING AT A BUSY INTERSECTION OR IN CONGESTED TRAFFIC. IT LEAVES ONE WONDERING IF/WHEN THE BRAKE FUNCTION WILL ACTUALLY FAIL ALTOGETHER. I HAD THE PROBLEM INVESTIGATED BY MY DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT INVOLVED THE ANTI LOCK SENSORS WHICH MAY BE FIXED BY CLEANING. IF THAT WOULDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM, THE SENSORS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. COSTS: CLEANING $160; REPLACEMENT: $1250. CLEANING DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 GMC SIERRA. FOR THE LAST 3 MONTHS THE SPEEDOMETER HAS BEEN ACTING FUNNY. AT TIMES IT WILL SAY I AM DRIVING A LOT SLOWER THAN I ACTUALLY WAS. FOR EXAMPLE, THIS MORNING, IT SAID I WAS GOING 10 MPH AND I WAS PROBABLY GOING ABOUT 30-35 MPH. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND IT RESET. YESTERDAY WHILE DRIVING ON A TRIP, THE SPEEDOMETER STUCK ON 75 MPH. I DID NOT REALIZE IT UNTIL CARS STARTED PASSING ME ON THE INTERSTATE AND WHEN I CHECKED MY GPS SYSTEM, IT SAID I WAS GOING AROUND 60 MPH. THE SPEEDOMETER IS JUST ALL OVER THE BOARD. SOMETIMES THE SPEED IS CORRECT, SOMETIMES ITS SLOWER AND SOMETIMES ITS FASTER. I BELIEVE THIS IS A REAL SAFETY CONCERN SINCE THE DRIVER DOES NOT KNOW HOW FAST THEY MAYBE REALLY GOING. I HAVE CHECKED ON THE INTERNET AND IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. *JB
I HAVE A 2004 GMC SIERRA Z71, AND THE SPEEDOMETER HAS BEGUN TO PERFORM ERRATICALLY. IT NO LONGER RETURNS TO 0 WHILE STOPPED, AND NEVER GOES BELOW 35 MPH. THIS HAS JUST BEGUN, AND APPARENTLY JUDGING BY THE NUMBER OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS (OVER 350 IN ONE FORUM ALONE) I HAVE FOUND ON WEB FORUMS THIS IS A VERY WELL KNOWN PROBLEM TO GM. *JB
I HAVE A 2004 GMC SIERRA THAT THE SPEEDOMETER IS STICKING. I HAVE FOUND ON NUMEROUS WEB SITES THAT LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME TROUBLE. APPARENTLY THE 2004 GMC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS HAVING ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS WITH FAULTY GAUGES. *NM
2004 GMC SIERRA SPEEDOMETER GIVES ERRONEOUS READINGS AT HIGHWAY SPEED. CAUSED INADVERTENT AND BRAKING, UNSAFE SPEED AND LOSS OF SITUATIONAL AWARENESS. *NM
I HAVE A 2004 GMC SIERRA EXT. CAB TRUCK WITH ABOUT 70K MILES ON IT. IN THE PAST WEEK, THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED READING HIGHER THAN 120 MPH WHILE DRIVING. I WAS ONLY DOING AROUND 50 MPH. WHEN STOPPED IT READS AROUND 60 MPH. I CAN START AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES AND THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE WILL DROP AROUND 10 MPH EACH TIME IT STARTS. WHEN IT GETS TO 0, IT WILL READ FINE FOR A LITTLE WHILE AND THEN GRADUALLY START CLIMBING UP PAST 120 MPH AGAIN. 2ND COMPLAINT. AROUND EVERY 20K TO 25K MILES, I HAVE TO TAKE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER AND HAVE A NEW STEERING COLUMN GREASE PACKING KIT INSTALLED BECAUSE THE STEERING COLUMN STARTS KNOCKING IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE FIRST 2 TIMES IT WAS DONE WAS UNDER WARRANTY, NOW THE WARRANTY IS UP AND IT NEEDS ANOTHER PACKING DONE. THE DEALER WANTS ME TO PAY FOR THIS ONE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK BRAND NEW. *JB
SPEEDOMETER FAILURE. SPEEDOMETER WOULD BOUNCE AROUND, THEN QUIT WORKING, STARTED WORKING, FAILED TO WORK, WENT OVER TO 125+ MPH WHEN VEHICLE NOT MOVING. SPEEDOMETER HAS WORKED ITSELF BACK AROUND TO 0 AND NO LONGER FUNCTIONS. *JB
THE SPEEDOMETER OF MY 2004 GMC SIERRA WILL OFTEN NOT SHOW THE CORRECT SPEED. SOMETIMES IT GOES WAY UP, SOMETIMES WAY DOWN - EVEN TO ZERO. I HAVE CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER WHO SAYS IT WILL COST AT LEAST $600 TO REPAIR AND I HAVE CONTACTED GMC WHO SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO - THEY REPORT NO RECALL. MY WIFE'S 2004 CHEVY MONTE CARLO HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS SOON AFTER WE BOUGHT IT NEW - IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. FROM MY RESEARCH ONLINE, THIS SPEEDOMETER PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE VERY WIDESPREAD WITH GM PRODUCTS. I BELIEVE A FAULTY SPEEDOMETER IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY GM. *JB
MY 2004 GMC SIERRA 1500 HAS ERRATIC SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTIONS. I FIRST NOTICED THIS ON A TRIP WITH MY SPEEDOMETER READING 65 MPH AND ALL THE TRAFFIC OF A 4 LANE EXPRESSWAY WAS PASSING ME. I THEN REALIZED MY PORTABLE GPS UNIT WAS READING A MUCH SLOWER SPEED. SPEEDING UP TO THE GAPS READING MY TRUCK SPEEDOMETER REGISTERED 110 MPH. AT TIMES THE READINGS ARE REVERSED. AND AT OTHER TIMES THE SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T WORK AT ALL. AFTER RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I?VE DISCOVERED GM HAS USED FAULTY ?CLUSTER STEPPER MOTORS? AND MANY CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM AND GM KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM. FORTUNATELY THERE HAVEN?T BEEN ANY REPORTED DEATHS YET DUE TO THE PROBLEM ONE WOULD HOPE THAT A RECALL WOULD RESULT BEFORE THERE ARE FATALITIES. *JB
DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, MY SPEEDOMETER STARTED INDICATING I WAS DOING 20 MPH WHILE I WAS ACTUALLY GOING AT LEAST 60 MPH. IT PROCEEDED TO ONLY INDICATE SPEEDS FROM APPROX -10 MPH TO 10 MPH. THEN THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE WENT 180 DEGREES BEYOND IT'S MAX, THEN THE BATTERY GAUGE DID THE SAME. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE FAILS INTERMITTENTLY. HE STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYS INCORRECT SPEEDS OR NO SPEED AT ALL WHILE USUALLY DRIVING 45 MPH. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE TACHOMETER OCCASIONALLY OPERATES IN THE SAME MANNER AS THE SPEEDOMETER. THE FREQUENCY OF THE FAILURES IS INCREASING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS FAILURES RELATED TO THOSE SPECIFIC COMPONENTS. THE ENGINE SIZE IS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 56,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
2004 GMC SIERRA PICKUP SPEEDOMETER IS VERY ERRATIC. INDICATED SPEEDS ARE NOT ACCURATE. SOMETIMES SPEEDOMETER INDICATES 40-60 MPH WHEN TRUCK IS NOT MOVING. *NM
SPEEDOMETER GAUGE IS SHOWING WRONG SPEED WENT TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE HAD MANY COMPLAINTS BUT IT IS NOT A RECALL AND PRICE TO FIX IS $450-$550. *JB
MY 2004 GMC SIERRA WOULD LIGHT ALL FOUR TURN SIGNALS WHEN THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL WAS APPLIED, AS IF THE HAZARD LIGHTS WERE ON. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE. PAID ALMOST 200 DOLLARS TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND FIXED. AFTER GOING HOME, I SEE THAT OTHER SIERRA USERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. MORE SHOCKING, I SEE THAT GM HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS WITH SOME ENVOYS, BARBADOS, TRAILBLAZERS, AND OTHERS, AND PERFORMED A SAFETY RECALL AT NO CHARGE. IT IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT ALL VEHICLE OWNERS WITH THESE PROBLEMS WERE NOT NOTIFIED AND THE FAULTY COMPONENTS REPLACED. HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET IN TOUCH WITH GM ABOUT THIS AND THEY HAVE YET TO SEND ME ANYTHING BUT CARBON-COPY E-MAILS AND RUNAROUNDS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING SPEEDOMETER STARTED ACTING UP IN COLD WEATHER. STOPPED WORKING. BRINGING TO MECHANIC TO FIX. ALSO, FAN MOTOR STOPPED WORKING *JB
2004 GMC K1500 Z71 - SPEEDOMETER READS INCORRECTLY 0-100 MPH OFF OF ACTUAL SPEED. *NM
STEERING LINKAGE PROBLEMS: I'VE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM SINCE I'VE OWNED MY TRUCK. MY FATHER, WHO ALSO HAS A 2500HD, HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS WELL. THEY LUBED AND GREASED THE SHAFT AT ONE POINT UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED AND IS PERSISTENT IN BOTH OF OUR TRUCKS. BOTH OF OUR TRUCKS ARE '04 MODELS AND I HAVE LESS THAN 40K MILES ON MINE. IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL WILL COME UNATTACHED FROM THE LINKAGE. NOT A VERY SAFE PROBLEM TO HAVE. I HOPE SOMEONE WILL TAKE THESE COMPLAINTS SERIOUSLY. *JB
TL*- THE CONTACT STATES THAT SOMETIME IN AUGUST OF 2006, FUEL INJECTED NUMBER 8 FAILED IN HER VEHICLE. ON DECEMBER 4TH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED TO WORK INVOLVING INJECTED NUMBER 8. ON DECEMBER 11TH, INJECTED NUMBER SIX ON CONTACT DIESEL ENGINE TRUCK FAILED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. THE CONTACT STATES THAT HE HAS SPENT OVER $1,000 OF DOLLARS REPAIRING HIS TRUCK AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, IF THE MANUFACTURER HAS CONFIRM THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL INJECTORS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIR SEVERAL OF TIMES, CONTACT CAN PROVIDE ANY REPAIR INVOICES IF NEEDED
INTERNAL FAILURE OF PART IN FUEL TANK THAT CAUSED THE FUEL GAUGE TO NOT READ ACCURATELY, BUT ALLOWED THE LOW FUEL LIGHT TO OPERATE CORRECTLY. THIS PART WAS NOT A PART OF THE FUEL PUMP, BUT WORKED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE PUMP AS THE PUMP WAS A WARRANTY ITEM ,AND THIS PART WAS NOT.*AK
ERRATIC SPEEDOMETER - AFTER 20-30MIN. DRIVING, NEEDLE WILL SUDDENLY DROP TO 10MPH AND YOUR STILL AT 55 OR HIGHER. WILL EVENTUALLY GO TO 0. ONCE VEHICLED COOLS DOWN, SPEEDOMETER SEEMS TO WORK AGAIN, TEMPORARILY.
THE SPEEDOMETER IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. THE SPEEDS SHOWN ON THE SPEEDOMETER HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. *JB
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2004 GMC PU FAILED ON A RECENT TRIP FROM ME TO FL. AS I PULLED ONTO THE MA TRPK, I NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS READING 85 MPH. AT THE TIME, I WAS PROBABLY GOING 60 - 65. IT THEN READ HIGHER AND HIGHER ON THE TRIP AND THE NEEDLE WAS BURIED AT TIMES. WHEN I STOPPED, THE NEEDLE WOULD DROP A LITTLE. A FEW DAYS AFTER THE TRIP WAS CONCLUDED, THE NEEDLE RETURNED TO ZERO WHEN STOPPED AND CURRENTLY RECORDS ACCURATELY. OBVIOUSLY, IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN YOUR SPEEDOMETER FAILS, ESPECIALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF A LONG TRIP. I RECENTLY ASKED A LOCAL DEALER IF THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM, AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE "LOTS" OF SPEEDOMETERS ($350). I THEN ASKED IF THE REPLACEMENTS FAILED AND WAS TOLD "NOT YET". GM HAS NOT OFFERED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM (I WAS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY) AND SHOULD BE FORCED TO DO SO AND RECALL ALL FAULTY UNITS. THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF DISCUSSION ON THE INTERNET. I OWN A 2004 GMC SIERRA 2500 CREW CAB PICKUP WITH 59,000 MILES. IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS THE SPEEDOMETER HAS BEEN GIVING INCORRECT READINGS, I.E. 70 MPH WHEN STOPPED, 115 WHEN DOING 40 MPH ETC. ON OCCASION, IT EITHER DOESN'T WORK AT ALL, OR THE NEEDLE IS FULLY PEGGED. THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL HOW FAST THIS VEHICLE IS GOING. GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS STATED THAT THEY CAN PROVIDE NO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE $320 REPAIR BECAUSE "THEY CANNOT MAKE A BUSINESS CASE FOR IT." GMC REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A PERVASIVE PROBLEM THROUGHOUT MANY OF THEIR VEHICLES IN THIS MODEL YEAR DESPITE AMPLE DOCUMENTATION OF THE PROBLEM EASILY FOUND AT AUTO REPAIR WEBSITES ON THE INTERNET. ADDITIONALLY, PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS EXACT NATURE AND EXACT VEHICLE HAVE BEEN FILED WITH NHTSA. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A HILL WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS INSIDE THE VEHICLE, AND MANAGED TO AVOID A CRASH BY APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER, WHO DETERMINED A LARGE AMOUNT OF GREASE WAS PRESENT ON THE PARKING BRAKE SHOE FROM A LEAKING RIGHT REAR AXLE SEAL. THE RIGHT REAR AXLE SEAL WAS REPLACED, BUT AFTERWARDS THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, AND DETERMINED THE LEFT REAR AXLE SEAL WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. *AK
SPEEDOMETER FAILS TO RESET TO ZERO. WHEN VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP, THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATOR STOPS AT A SPEED ABOVE ZERO (I.E., 30, 40, 50 MPH). WHEN THE VEHICLE RESUMES TRAVELING, THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATOR STARTS INCREMENTING AT THE SPEED AT WHICH IT STOPPED (I.E., 30, 40, 50 MPH). THEREFORE, THE INDICATED SPEED IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THE ACTUAL SPEED. THIS IS NOT ONE INCIDENT, BUT AN ONGOING CONTINUOUS PROBLEM, AND VERY DANGEROUS. *NM
ON OR ABOUT 12/01/06, WHILE PULLING MY TRUCK AHEAD, THE BRAKES FAILED, CAUSING ME TO ROLL INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. ON 3 OTHER OCCASIONS, MY TRUCK HAS ROLLED THROUGH INTERSECTIONS DUE TO ABS FAILURE. I CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING AND THEY REFERRED ME TO GM. WHEN I CONTACTED GM, THEY ALLUDED TO THE FACT THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE DEFECT BUT THEN INDICATED THAT THE BRAKES WORK AS DESIGNED. I WAS THEN ADVISED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE WITH REGARDS TO THE BRAKE SYSTEM BUT WAS GIVEN SOME FREE OIL CHANGES FOR MY TROUBLES. WHEN I DID FINALLY RECEIVE THE 12,000 MILE OIL CHANGE COVERAGE, DUE TO DELAYS IN THEIR PROCESSING, THE COVERAGE WAS ACTUALLY FOR ONLY 7900 MILES. WHEN GM WAS CONTACTED, THEY REFUSED TO CORRECT THIS ERROR. *JB
BOUGHT THE TRUCK FROM A DEALERSHIP IN AUGUST 2006. IN NOVEMBER, THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER STOPPED WORKING. I BOUGHT AN EXTENDED "BUMPER-TO-BUMPER" WARRANTY AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT IT IS NOT COVERED. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME NINETY DOLLARS TO INSPECT THE FAILURE, PLUS CHARGE ME FOR THE REPAIR. AFTER SOME INVESTIGATION, I FIND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL. *JB
I HAVE A 2004 GMC SIERRA THAT HAS A MALFUNCTIONING SPEEDOMETER. IT SHOWS READING ANYWHERE FROM 0-100 MPH OVER WHAT YOU ARE TRAVELING AT. WITH THE TRUCK TURENED OFF - THE SPEEDOMETER WILL SHOW IT AT SPEEDS OF UP TO 100 MPH. THIS ALL STARTED AT ABOUT THE 40,000 MILE MARK. WE PREVIOUSLY HAD A 2004 CHEVY 5500 TRUCK THAT TOO BEGAN W/ SPEEDOMETER TROUBLE AT THE 40,000 MILE RANGE. WE KNOW SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WITH A 2004 CHEVY/GMC ALL OF WHOM HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. CHECKING AROUND THE INTERNET AND IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM THAT SHOULD WARRANT A RECALL BEFORE SOMETHING TRAGIC COULD HAPPEN.
INSTRUMENT DISPLAY PANEL SPECIFICALLY THE SPEEDOMETER IS NOW FROZEN AT 120 MPH. IT HAPPENED AT JUST UNDER 60K MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I HAD RECEIVED NOTICE THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR BUT NOW HAVE TO MANY MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE CAP ON MILEAGE IS APPROXIMATELY 70K. IM HAPPY TO KNOW THAT THIS PART OF THE VEHICLE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SAFETY. GMC WANTING SOME $500 - $600. DOLLARS TO FIX THIS IS THE REAL ISSUE. 2004 GMC SIERRA AT 50,000 MILES DEVELOPED A SPEEDOMETER SHORT IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WHICH CAUSED WILD SWINGS IN MPH READINGS. AFTER MENTIONING IT TO A FRIEND WITH A CHEVY SILVERADO, SAME YEAR AND MILEAGE , I FOUND HE HAD THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM . I HAD THE CLUSTER REPLACED AT MY COST.*JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING SUDDEN BRAKE PRESSURE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. THIS WAS INTERMITTENT IN NATURE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED NUMEROUS TIMES BY THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
MY SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2004 GMC SIERRA HAS BECOME ERRATIC. SOMETIMES IT IS ZERO EVEN IF THE VEHICLE IS MOVING. SOMETIMES IT REGISTERS 120 MPH SITTING STILL. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO JUDGE SPEED IN SCHOOL ZONES. NO KNOW EVENTS LED TO THE FAILURE. THE REPAIR BILL WILL BE ABOUT $500 I AM TOLD. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OVER THE TIRE. THERE WAS NO PRE-BRAKING BEFORE THE IMPACT. THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. ALTHOUGH ALL OCCUPANTS WERE WEARING THEIR SEATBELTS, THERE WERE TWO OCCUPANTS INJURIED. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS NO SENSOR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRUCK. PICTURES WERE TAKEN AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER TRUCK TO DIALYSIS APPT AT 6:00 AM WHEN SHE HEARD A NOISE AND HER LEFT OUTSIDE MIRROR EXPLODED SPRAYING THE LEFT DOOR GLASS AND SIDE OF THE TRUCK WITH GLASS AND A GEL. *NM
I FOUND MYSELF DRIVING 80 MPH WHEN MY SPEEDOMETER WAS READING 65 MPH. AFTER KEEPING TRACK OF THIS IT PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE. IT READS WRONG EVERY TIME NOW. UNDER "NUMBER OF FAILURES" I AM JUST GUESSING AT A NUMBER BECAUSE IT HAS FAILED EVERY TIME I HAVE DRIVEN SINCE THE FIST TIME. *JB

SOME OF THEM ACTUALLY PAYING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WHILE OTHERS ARE PAYING 4-7 HUNDRED AND STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM HOURS LATER AFTER PAYING TO HAVE IT FIXED. I CALLED A NEARBY GMC DEALER AND ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE SPEEDOMETERS THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NOT BUT THAT THEY WERE GETTING A LOT OF CALLS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF CONCERN. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST A RECALL OF THE SPEEDOMETER EQUIPMENT ON 2004 GM TRUCKS . *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS RUST ON THE BOLT THAT ATTACHED THE WHEEL SENSOR. AS OF SEPTEMBER 12, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,800.

I WAS TRAVELING AT 35 MPH ON A CITY STREET AND HAD TO STOP QUICKLY. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND RECEIVED NO RESPONSE AS THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM FINALLY STARTED TO RESPOND RIGHT BEFORE IMPACT WITH THE BACK CORNER OF A VAN. THIS RESULTED IN EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO MY PICK-UP AND THE VAN. I'M STILL WAITING ON THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO FIX MY TRUCK. *NM
