BRAKE FAILURE DO TO RUSTED OUT LINES.A ONGOING PROBLEM THAT GM WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE POOR QUALITY OF THESE LINES PUTTING PEOPLE'S LIVES AT RISK.
WITHOUT ANY WARNING, MY BRAKE LINES FAILED AND I COULD NOT STOP MY TRUCK. I LIVE IN THE NORTHEAST AND IT WOULD SEEM REASONABLE FOR BRAKE LINES TO RUST OUT. HOWEVER, MY TRUCK IS ONLY 10 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS KEEPING IT WASHED, INCLUDING THE UNDERCARRIAGE. I HAVE NEVER HAD A BRAKE LINE FAIL ON ANOTHER CAR AND I HAVE DRIVEN SOME REALLY OLD VEHICLES. I HAVE ALSO NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE I KNOW HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THEIR VEHICLES. THIS IS BECAUSE IT IS A SPECIFIC PROBLEM WITH GMC SIERRA AND CHEVY SILVERADO.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 (NA) GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V324000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
2005 GMC 2500HD THAT THE BRAKE LINES FAILED. AFTER CHECKING THEY ARE RUSTED EVERYWHERE. I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND I SEE THAT THIS IS A ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL YEAR.
METAL BRAKE LINE RUPTURED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP QUICKLY, NARROWLY MISSING STOPPED VEHICLE AHEAD
A VEHICLE APPROACHING FROM MY LEFT SIDE WAS SPEEDING AND RAN THE STOP LIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AT APPROXIMATELY 40MPH. I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES TO AVOID THE COLLISION AND MY BRAKES WET TO THE FLOOR. I MISSED HITTING THE CAR BY ABOUT 1 FOOT. AT AN INSPECTION AT A DEALERSHIP IT APPEARS THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED THROUGH UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE TRUCK. APPARENTLY FORM ROAD SALT CORROSION,
SLIGHT CLUNKING STARTED WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE. FLUID ON GARAGE FLOOR. OFF TO AAMCO. FOUND TWO HOLES IN TRANSFERCASE. THE "4 STAR BUFFERING RING" ON SHAFT INSIDE POUNDED TWO HOLES IN CASING. JUST STEP ON GAS AND TORQUE POUNDS THE RING INTO THE CASING UNTIL HOLES ARE MADE. ALL FLUID POURS OUT. MOST PEOPLE WONT EVEN KNOW ITS HAPPENED UNTIL CASTASTROPHIC FAILURE. SEVERAL SEALS, CHAIN, TWO GEARS, 3 BOTTLES OF FLUID, "4 STAR BUFFER RING" AND A NEW CASING HALF WAS REQUIRED. $2654.00 TO REPAIR FOR A 12 MONTH WARRANTY. AAMCO POINTED OUT I DID NOTHING WRONG. ITS AN ENGINEERED FAILURE POINT BY GM. ADD THIS TO ; #1-SPEEDO GEAR FAILURE-20MPH AND GAGE READS 90 MPH, #2-CD/RADIO BURNT UP, #3-WATER PUMP FAILURE 16K MILES, #4-CAB OF TRUCK NOT ATTACHED TO FRAME CORRECTLY "CAB WOBBLING", #5-ROOF TEMP CONTROL UNIT FAILURE, #6-PASSENGER WINDOW MOTOR STOPS WORKING BELOW 25 DEGREES, #7-FACTORY INSTALLED BATTERY WAS THE WRONG ONE WHEN BOUGHT NEW IN OGDEN, UTAH. NOW,.... AIRBAGS???
WHEN PULLING IN MY DRIVEWAY THE BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT CLEAR TO THE FLOOR. UPON INVESTIGATING I FOUND THE BRAKE LINES TO BE SEVERELY CORRODED. I WAS FORTUNATE NOT TO BE DRIVING AT A FASTER RATE OF SPEED ON THE OPEN ROAD. THAT SAME WEEK THE STEERING HAD BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN LIKE IT WAS LOW ON FLUID, WHICH IT WAS NOT. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO HAVE BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED ALONG WITH THE COMPUTER AT 400 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 3500. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND THE SERVICE BRAKING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
THESE PARTS WERE RECALLED ON PREVIOUS GM VEHICLES IN THE SAME YEAR. THE FUEL SENSOR DOESN'T WANT TO READ CORRECTLY AND NOT KNOWING AMOUNT OF FUEL IN TANK. THE ABS SYSTEM OVER REACTS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ENGAGE WHILE DRY CONDITIONS ARE PRESENT AND ALARM TO SOUND. *TR
ANOTHER GM RUSTY BRAKE LINE FAILURE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP ON A 2005 GMC SIERRA 1500. I DON'T EXPECT THINGS TO LAST FOREVER, BUT BRAKE LINES ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE SAFETY OF A VEHICLE AND THEY SHOULD NOT BE RUSTING TO FAILURE AT THIS POINT. I DON'T CARE WHAT THE CLIMATE IS. AT THIS POINT MY TRUCK IS IN THE SHOP GETTING FIXED ON MY DIME (GM REFUSES TO REPAIR IT). BUT THEY NEED TO LOOK INTO THIS. I HAVE WORKED ON/DRIVEN MANY MUCH OLDER CARS IN THE SAME CONDITION, AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN BRAKE LINES RUST TO THIS EXTENT IN 10 YEARS. MY LAST CAR WAS A 20 YEAR OLD MONTE CARLO THAT STILL HAD ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES. IN MY OPINION THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO TURN INTO BIGGER SAFETY ISSUE AT SOME TIME. IN MY OPINION, IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. *TR

STEERING COLUMN GOES OUT FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 117000 MILES AND RATTLES WHILE DRIVING. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS AN ON GOING THING WITH THIS MODEL AND OTHERS
WENT TO STOP AT STOP SIGN, BRAKES FELT SPONGY. STOPPED UP THE ROAD ABOUT 2 MILES AT MY MOMS HOUSE TO GET MY KIDS, LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND SAW BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING DOWN ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FRAME BEHIND THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL.I HAVE TO REPLACE ALL OF MY BRAKE LINES NOW DUE TO RUST. *TR
THE STEERING SHAFT IS MOVING, SLIPPING BACK AND FORTH AS I HOLD ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL. *TR
WHEN TRYING TO EXIT HIGHWAY OFFRAMP BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED DUE TO BRAKE LINES RUSTING THROUGH. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP WITH PARKING BRAKE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED INTO GEAR, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE GEAR SELECTOR WAS BARELY ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED AND THE CONTACT HAD TO MEMORIZE IN WHAT GEAR THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000. UPDATED 06/15/16*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE LED SHIFT INDICATOR DISPLAY HAD FADED, AND HE WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT GEAR THE VEHICLE WAS IN. UPDATED 06/22/16.*JB
TODAY WHEN I PARKED MY GMC SIERRA 2500HD, I TURNED OFF THE KEY SWITCH AND I NOTICED MY BLOWER MOTOR WAS STILL RUNNING. AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME I SMELT SOMETHING BURNING. I WENT OUT UNDERNEATH THE HOOD OF MY VEHICLE LOCATED THE FUSE BOX AND REMOVED THE 40 AMP BLOWER MOTOR FUSE AND THAT SHUT DOWN THE HEATER AND THE SMELL STARTING GOING AWAY. IT WAS 19 DEGREES HERE IN OKLAHOMA AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND GOT SEVERAL HITS ABOUT GMC TRUCKS THAT EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE EXCEPT SOME OF THE VEHICLES BURNED COMPLETELY TO THE GROUND. I ALSO GOT INFORMATION FROM THE INTERNET THAT GENERAL MOTORS OF CANADA RECALLED ALL THERE GM PRODUCTS THAT HAD THE SAME BLOWER MOTOR ASSEMBLY. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH GENERAL MOTORS, DETROIT. THEY SAID THEY HAD NO RECALLS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A STOP SIGN, ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEGAN FLASHING INTERMITTENTLY. ALSO, THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED ON AND OFF INDEPENDENTLY, THE SPEEDOMETER AND TEMPERATURE GAUGES SHOWED INACCURATE READINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH ELECTRICAL FAILURES ON THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
I WAS TRAVELING AT 35 MPH AND APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT. THE BRAKES FAILED AND I WENT THROUGH THE RED LIGHT. I NEARLY WAS HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE BRAKE LINE HAS A SEVER LEAK AT A RUSTED AREA IN THE LINE. *TR
AROUND THE MIDDLE OF DECEMBER 2014 THE "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" MESSAGE APPEARED ON MY 2005 GMC 1500 SIERRA SLE. I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR AND IT WAS NEARLY EMPTY. I COULD NOT FIND WHERE THE FLUID HAD LEAKED FROM SO I SERVICED THE RESERVOIR WITH 12 OUNCES BRAKE FLUID TO THE FULL MARK. FROM ABOUT DECEMBER 15, 2014 UNTIL 28 DECEMBER 2014, I LOST ABOUT 7 OUNCES OF BRAKE FLUID. NO TRACE OF BRAKE FLUID CAN BE FOUND ON THE DRIVEWAY. I CRAWLED UNDER THE TRUCK AND HAD MY WIFE PRESS THE BRAKES WHILE I LOOKED FOR A LEAK. I FOUND THE LEAK NEAR THE LEFT REAR WHEEL AREA ON A VERY CORRODED BRACKET. IT APPEARS TO BE A VERY SMALL HOLE BECAUSE THE FLUID COMES OUT AS A FINE MIST AND NOT A STREAM. THE RIGID BRAKE LINE CONNECTS TO A FLEXIBLE BRAKE LINE AT THE BRACKET AND THERE IS A LOT OF RUST AT THE CONNECTION AS WELL AS THE BRAKE LINE. I HAVE FOUND RUST FORMING ON OTHER BRAKE LINES AS WELL. *TR
THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND VEHICLE DID NOT STOP, BARELY AVOIDED A CRASH. FOUND POOL OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER TRUCK. FIRESTONE AUTO CHARGED $675 TO REPLACE A RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINE. ALL OTHER LINES ARE HEAVILY CORRODED AND READY TO FAIL AS WELL. *TR
ENGINE HAS LOSE OF ENGINE COOLANT OVER TIME WITH NO EVIDENCE OF LEAKS FOUND. WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO A GM DEALER WHICH TOLD US THIS WAS A KNOWN DEFECT ISSUE. THEY PROVIDED US WITH BULLETIN # 06-06-01-019B DOCUMENT ID 1986750 WHICH CLEARLY STATE THIS WAS DEFECT IN THE CASTING OF THE CASTECH HEADS. THE COST WITH PARTS AND LABOR IS $3,100.00 DOLLARS. CLEARLY, GM SHOULD COVER THIS COST SINCE THIS OBVIOUSLY IS A KNOWN DEFECT. SEARCHING THE INTERNET YOU CAN SEE A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE WITH LITTLE OR NO HELP FROM GM. *TR
GOING SOUTH ON I77, CRUISE SET ON 70 MPH, NOTICED SLIGHT VIBRATION AND CONTINUED ABOUT 4 MILES WHEN THE LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. TAPED THE BRAKE, GOT OFF ON BURM ASAP AND TURNED ON HAZARD LIGHTS. HAD TO CONTINUE FOR ANOTHER MILE OR SO I COULD CLEAR THE INTERSTATE. HAD TO HAVE ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE TO CHANGE THE TIRE. MICHELIN REFUSED TO WARRANTY THIS TIRE AND IT HAD ONLY BEEN ON MY TRUCK FOR 4 MONTHS. THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS A 2009 MODEL TIRE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 3500. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE SPEEDOMETER BECAME INOPERABLE AND AN ABNORMAL NOISE EMITTED FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,250.
NOVEMBER 5, 2014: TURN KEY AND SYMPTOM OF A DEAD BATTERY. STARTER CLICKS ONCE. NO LIGHTS WILL WORK AT ALL. TOOK BATTERY OUT, CHARGED IT OVERNIGHT, AND HAD IT TESTED. TEST REVEALS BATTERY IS GOOD (SHOULD START VEHICLE) BUT WEAK (NEEDS A CHARGE). PUT BATTERY BACK IN, CONNECTED IT, PUT KEY IN, TURNED IT, AND VEHICLE STARTED EASILY. ............. NOV. 15, 2014: TURN KEY BUT, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY DEAD. THEN, TAKE KEY OUT FOR FIVE MINUTES, PUT BACK IN, AND STARTS RIGHT UP LIKE NOTHING WRONG. *TR
IGNITION SWITCH IS STICKING IN RUN POSITION. I HAVE TO TURN THE SWITCH BACK AFTER CRANKING TO TURN OFF THE ABS /PARKING BRAKE LIGHT. TRIED A NEW SWITCH DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IS THIS PART OF THE RECALL PROBLEM. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED. THE BRAKE LINES AND FRAME ARE HEAVILY CORRODED. WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT ON 10/26/14 BRAKES WERE APPLIED ABRUPTLY WHICH CAUSED A RUPTURE OF THE CORRODED BRAKE LINES. ALL BRAKE LINES WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO SAFELY RETURN THE VEHICLE TO SERVICE. OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS HAVE 2004 CHEVY YUKON AND 1994 GMC 2500, BOTH VEHICLES HAD BRAKE LINES FAIL DUE TO CORROSION AND REQUIRED COMPLETE REPLACEMENT IN ORDER TO SAFELY RETURN THE VEHICLES TO SERVICE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND THESE BRAKE LINE FAILURES ARE NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL VEHICLES MUCH OLDER THAN THIS VEHICLE WHICH STILL HAVE STOCK BRAKE LINES WITH NO CORROSION. *TR
CAR IN FRONT OF ME LOCKED UP HIS BRAKES FOR A AMBULANCE ENTERING THE INTERSECTION .GOOD THING HAD ENOUGH DISTANCE TO STOP AS WHEN I TRIED TOO THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR.KEPT PUMPING AND MANAGED TO STOP.GLAD I WASN'T GOING ANY FASTER AND HAD TIME TO REACT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SIGNALED TO TURN RIGHT LAST MINUTE AND APPLIED THE BRAKES, I ALSO APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. IF I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH FOLLOWING DISTANCE I WOULD HAVE CRASHED RIGHT IN TO THE CAR. I ONLY HAD ABOUT 1/2 INCH OF BRAKE PEDAL AND DROVE IN LOW GEAR VERY CAREFULLY THE REST OF THE SHORT DISTANCE TO WORK. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK I SAW BRAKE FLUID POURING OUT OF THE BRAKE LINES BELOW THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND THEY WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I REALIZED ALL MY BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTY ON A NINE YEAR OLD VEHICLE, I NEVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE. I HAD TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED AND REPAIRED AT A LOCAL GARAGE THAT CHARGED ME $1,547.61 TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES AND DID A HORRIBLE JOB. I HAD CALLED THE GMC DEALER I DEALT WITH IN THE PAST AND THEY WERE INUNDATED WITH RECALL WORK AND HAD AT LEAST A 2 WEEK WAIT AND ANOTHER GM DEALER THAT GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE PROVIDED ME AND THEY WERE ALSO ALL BOOKED UP WITH RECALL WORK AND SO I WAS FORCED TO TRUST A LOCAL SHOP. THIS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD GET PEOPLE KILLED, I ALWAYS HAVE MY WIFE AND KIDS IN THE TRUCK AND IT WAS A DEATH TRAP. IN TALKING TO GMC REPS IS SEEMS THEY HAVE NO INTENTION TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS PREMATURE AND ACCELERATED RUSTING CONDITION THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED ME OR SOMEONE ELSE THEIR LIFE. *TR
MY SPEEDOMETER RECENTLY MALFUNCTIONED AT AROUND 77,000 MILES AND I BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE MANAGER, JEFF BEVINGTON, AT RALLY GMC AUTO GROUP IN PALMDALE, CA (WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN 2005). I WAS GIVEN SERVICE BULLETIN #07187C - SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER GAUGE NEEDLE FUNCTION (MARCH 20, 2009), WHICH INDICATES THE FOLLOWING: THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO INCLUDE CERTAIN 2005 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES IN THE U.S. ADDITIONALLY, FOR U.S. 2003-2005 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES, GM WILL PROVIDE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) ONLY, AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER FOR VERIFIED FAILURES BETWEEN 70,001 MILES (110,001 KM) AND 80,000 MILES (130,000 KM). ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS, INCLUDING LABOR TO REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER, WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CUSTOMER. DEALERS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RETURN OF THE CUSTOMER'S IPC BACK TO THE ELECTRONIC SERVICE CENTER. PLEASE DISCARD ALL COPIES OF BULLETIN 01787B, ISSUED SEPTEMBER 2008. THE VIN BREAKOUTS OF VEHICLES INVOLVED IN THE BULLETIN INCLUDE 2005 GMC SIERRA BETWEEN 51100001 AND 51347001. HOWEVER, JEFF BEVINGTON TOLD ME THAT SINCE MY VEHICLE IS OLDER THAN 7 YEARS AND OVER 70,000 MILES, IT IS NOT COVERED??? HE SUGGESTED I CALL THE GM TOLL FREE NUMBER (800) 222-1020 AND ASK IF THEY CAN HELP. I CALLED AND SPOKE TO DONTES WHO TOLD ME THAT GM HAS NO RECORD OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN MENTIONED ABOVE??? *TR

INSPECTED ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND OBSERVED SEVERELY CORRODED BRAKE LIVES AND BRAKE FLUID IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT. BRAKE LINE APPARENTLY CORRODED AND RUPTURED RESULTING IN BRAKE FAILURE. *TR
I WENT OUT TO MOVE THE TRUCK AND NOTICED THERE WAS FLUID ON THE DRIVEWAY. I EXAMINED THE REAR DRIVER SIDE AND THERE WAS A BRAKE LINE THAT HAD RUSTED THROUGH. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THIS BEING AN ISSUE WITH THOSE TRUCKS. I HAD RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS TO GM ABOUT THIS ISSUE. FORTUNATELY, THIS OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND DID NOT FAIL WHILE DRIVING MY FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE. WHAT I HAVE READ IS THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE MANUFACTURED WITH POOR QUALITY MATERIALS AND THAT THEY FAIL. CLOUD OF WHITE SMOKE OUT OF TAIL PIPE AS ENGINE SHUTTERED AND VALVES CHATTERED. FRONT DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE LINE FAILED FROM EXTERNAL CORROSION SHOOTING FLUID ON HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD. WHEN PEDDLE WENT TO FLOOR MASTER CYLINDER PASSED FLUID INTO BOOSTER AND THROUGH VACUUM LINE INTO INTAKE OF ENGINE CAUSING WHITE CLOUD OF BRAKE FLUID BURNING WITH GAS INTERNALLY ALMOST SHUTTING MOTOR DOWN AND LOSS OF ALL POWER. REPLACED CORRODED BRAKE LINES AND MASTER CYLINDER. NEGLIGENT DESIGN AND MATERIALS QUALITY IN MY OPINION. NOW BOTH FRONT CALIPERS DRAG AND SHAKE STEERING WHEEL. WHERE IS SAFETY RECALL? BRAKE LINES ARE NOT A MAINTENANCE ITEM! TRY REPLACING ONE AS THEY WERE INSTALLED TO NEVER COME OFF. UNABLE TO CRANK, RETURN TO WORK, RETURN IN 3 HOURS, REINSTALL OLD GAS CAP, CHECK FLUID LEVELS, OK. CRANK ENGINE LET RUN FOR 5 MINUTES, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON, WAIT ONE HOUR, CRANK ENGINE BACK TO NORMAL CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OFF, ENGINE RUN OK, DRIVE SHORT TEST DRIVE. UNABLE TO OPERATE VEHICLE SAFELY FOR 6-8 HOUR PERIOD, UNSURE IF VAPOR LOCK, BAD FUEL, FUEL FILTER, BAD PLUGS, COIL ON PLUGS, LOOSE PLUG WIRE, ETC. NEVER HAD ANY ENGINE PROBLEMS IN THE PAST. ONLY INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER FAILURE, AND STEERING CLICK KNOCK THAT WAS FIXED BY DEALER. RESEARCH PROBLEM ON INTERNET, IT APPEARS THIS IS A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FAILURE THAT GMC HAS IDENTIFIED AS A SAFETY PROBLEM AND MADE A SPECIAL EXTENDED COVERAGE FOR 2008 TO CURRENT YEAR VEHICLES OR TEN YEARS OR 120000 MILES. FROMRESEARCH ON COMPUTER, IT APPEARS TENS OF THOUSANDS OF COMMENTS REGARDING THIS LOSS OF POWER AND ENGINE STOP. I AM OLDER MAN AND REACTED WITH CAUTION AND WAS NEAR MY HOME. HAD I BEEN ON A BUSY STREET OR HIGHWAY A CRASH OR INJURY WOULD MOST CERTAINLY OCCURRED WITH THIS DISABLED VEHICLE THE CAUSE. 2005 GMC SIERRA Z71. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. THIS VEHICLE HAS 18K MILES, YES 18 THOUSAND ORIGINAL MILES. THIS TRUCK DOES NOT GET BEAT ON AT ALL, NO OFF ROAD ETC, AND IT HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF SINCE NEW. THERE IS A RUST ISSUE WITH THESE TRUCKS. ON 5-19-2014, ON MY WAY TO THE CAR WASH MY BRAKES STARTED TO FEEL VERY SOFT AND THE TRUCK WAS NOT STOPPING. I CHANGED ROUTES TO MY MECHANICS SHOP, AND WHILE EN ROUTE LOST THE REAR BRAKES. I THANKFULLY ARRIVED (DRIVING VERY SLOWLY) TO THE FRONT OF HIS SHOP. I GOT OUT AND SAW A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID LEAKING OUT OF THE REAR END BRAKE LINES REAR LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED. HE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, AND AS IF THIS WASN'T ENOUGH, INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION LINES WERE ALSO LEAKING (RUSTED). MECHANIC ADDED THAT I SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR THE FUEL LINES TO RUST THROUGH NEXT. THIS LINE REPLACEMENT JOB WILL COST ME ABOUT 2K. NOT TO MENTION THE ISSUE WITH THE LOWER ROCKERS AND CAB CORNERS RUSTING. THAT ESTIMATED IS FOR ANOTHER 2K. I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK TO LAST ME, AND APPARENTLY GM DOES NOT BUILD A QUALITY PRODUCT ANYMORE. THERE A NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AND GM REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY GETTING READY TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN OFF THE HIGHWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE INSTEAD OF CONTINUING THE TURN I PULLED ONTO THE CENTER MEDIAN SO I WOULD NOT HIT THE ON COMING TRAFFIC. I ALSO HAVE READ THAT GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL BECAUSE THEY FEEL IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. I TOOK MY TRUCK INTO FITZGERALD AUTO MALL, WITH WHOM I'VE HAD A GREAT RELATIONSHIP, FOR SOME POWER STEERING ISSUES. I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM PIPING ITSELF WAS RUSTING AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF $1600.00. I RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH GM TRUCKS AND THERE HASN'T BEEN ANYTHING DONE ABOUT IT. GM HAS REDUCED THE COST OF THE REPAIR "KIT" TO $500, BUT WHO IS GOING TO INSTALL IT? I HAVE HAD MANY VEHICLES AND LIVED IN MANY STATES WHERE SALT IS USED ON THE ROAD. I'VE NEVER SEEN A VEHICLE THAT HAD SO MUCH DAMAGE BECAUSE OF IT, ESPECIALLY A CRITICAL SYSTEM LIKE BRAKES. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL YEARS AGO. I DON'T THINK THE OWNERS OF THESE AFFECTED VEHICLES SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO FIX AN ENGINEERING MISTAKE. GM SHOULD BE LIABLE AND FIX IT FOR FREE. THANK YOU. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.

1) THE DRIVER DOOR POWER WINDOWS,LOCKS,AND EXTENDED MIRROR BUTTONS QUIT WORKING,I CAN BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND I CANT ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN ,CANT ADJUST MY MIRROR AND TIME THAT I STOP TO CHECK THE FUZES THE DOOR CONTROLS START WORKING AGAIN.
